ok so i know that like. my art history knowledge is maybe more than the average person's bc (waves at my ba in art history) so i might be quicker on the draw to recognize calls to semi/famous paintings but let me tell you. i saw this tweet:

and i laughed a little (to be fair it is a funny comparison, i was not laughing at op for not knowing this. to be clear) and went, well now hold on now, that's not completely right. they're not just referencing each other here, they're also referencing something else entirely! and that something else is this painting, "wanderer above the sea of fog" by german expressionist caspar david friedrich from 1818:

and like this is not something i would've really thought about without prompting, like i probably just went "huh nice reference" when i watched the mario trailer the first time (or didn't realize at all), so it's nice to have a reason to actively think about it lol

and you know it's entirely possible that the mario movie is, in fact, copying the angry birds movie! but the fact remains that the angry birds movie, at the very least, did reference wanderer above the sea of fog. like 100% (though it is fun to note that the mario movie one is more accurate to the landscape of the painting)

i'm formally trained in figure drawing and i'm fascinated by how bodies work and look. it's a practice that's both very forgiving (everyone has a different body) and very unforgiving (bad anatomy is very easy to spot because everybody has a body). i love integrating that practice into my fanart. i can't remember exactly where it's from, but i also really agree with that post about learning to draw your bus driver and your neighbors before you start doing fantasy elves.

also, fat people are sexy as hell.

thinking about that nlog phase again. we see it as a moral failing on the part of the young, that some girls want to separate themselves from the conception of girls as a whole. i know the classic rebuttals are that it's fine to be like other girls and that to viciously separate yourself in such an admittedly cringe way is just buying into the myths of patriarchy--

but what of girls who really, truly did not fit that mold? who didn't have common ground with other girls as often as they did their male peers? i didn't become like that consciously. as best i can tell, it was a response to being socially sidelined for most of my childhood. i didn't consciously notice what was happening to me until junior high, around ninth grade.

because that's what you do with weird and gross girls. girls who eat out of the trash. girls who like stage tech. girls who have a weird thing about how cool frankenstein is. girls who won't touch middle grade or YA romance. girls who cannot relate to the common experiences of their peers. i was not the one who shot myself with toy arrows at sleepovers because i thought it was funny. i was not the one casting myself as an old lady in every play. i was not the one leaving myself out of social experiences, study groups, playing at recess. it was a social phenomenon i didn't have much control over, because i was different, they knew it, and it was socially weird to have me around. taking on an aspect of "not like other girls" in retaliation to being told you are not like your peers (and this is bad) is like baby's first reclamation. it's an attitude to grow out of, but the fact is that it's the attitude that needs to change, not the aspects of your personality that your peers picked up on before you did.

Travis runs solo and always seems to get engineer and hopping in and out of vents spooking people

𝐂𝐋𝐈𝐈. I'm sitting here thinking about Khaenri'ah things™ and how multidisciplinary that kingdom was for millennia, touching on expertises such us:

✦ Academics concerning both Teyvat and what they must've discovered in their pursuit of the Abyss all the way down below the bowels of the world, going as far as touching onto knowledge concerning the Archons, which was branded as "forbidden". Highly likely to think that the Universitas Magistrorum is comparable to the Akademeia in terms of knowledge it manages.

✧ Military. Segregated outside Khaenri'ah partly as spies (as seen as least in Sumeru, who knows if in other nations too) and inside the kingdom by differing them from those who take care of royal matters and those who do the rest.

✦ Creation of automatons. While still part of the military, this deserves its own field given the vast options of machines they have created, some of which I wager help do mundane things within the kingdom.

✧ Alchemy —Khemia—. This is a huge field in and of itself, granted that it's what allowed them to reproduce life that would later on become a source of nourishment for the population, granted that where they live and highly likely by proximity to the Abyss, no natural life (flora or fauna except for Inteyvats) grew by itself. Includes ambitious projects such as the one Albedo describes of human creation as the peak of the opus magnum of Khemia.

✦ Abyss. I'd dare to say that this became a religion in itself, ironic that many of the Khaenri'ahns went from repudiating gods to worshipping something else in their stead. But that aside, while I have no doubt that those who were filled with obsessions might master any of the aforementioned fields and be part of this, I am going to include those into esoteric arts that were already able to summon rifthounds as teased in Khvarena of Good and Evil. I would say that these are a group of people, quite numerous, but which kept things under wraps and that the society was divided between those who had nothing to do with the Abyss dealings and those who did.
