On the first day of every work week the team leaders single out their “Hero Of The Week” and give a prize to someone who went above and beyond during the previous seven days. Today I was selected as the “hero” because of all the walking around tirelessly taking carts to zones and I was rewarded with a bag of sweets and quickly put back on all the weight I’ve lost thanks to all the walking I’ve done. Realistically I should be named next week’s “Hero Of The Week” too because the restraint I displayed in not screaming “FIFTY HOURS OF WALKING AND THIS IS THE THANKS I GET?” was nothing short of heroic. We then moved on to the games that the team lead gets us to play every morning where he asks us trivia questions. I correctly identified “Good things come to those who wait” as the slogan for Guinness. Looks like those four hours I spent watching Channel 4’s 100 Greatest Adverts (where this Guinness ad was voted number one) wasn’t a complete waste of time. I got to spin the wheel to identify my prize for the day and while I was hoping to get an extra fifteen minute break I got “eSwags” instead. eSwags are the purely fictional currency the company rewards us with that we can cash in for prizes. However the prizes are normally cups or hemp bags with with company’s name plastered across them so eSwags points are about as valuable as Luna’s arcade tickets or free tickets to see Lee Hurst.
