FEBRUARY FAVORITE THINGS!
STORES, ITEMS, TRENDS & MORE
1. I have been super into pastel colors recently. I recently just went out and purchased a few Essie polishes to add to my collection - they are my favorite brand for at home manicures. So first up! Some of my favorite shades. Blue -  ‘find me an oasis’ and’ bikini so teeny’. White / Nude - ‘blanc’ and ‘between the seats’ Green - ‘chillato’ and ‘mint candy apple’ Pink - ‘stirring secrets’
2. Jeffree Star Cosmetics - I ordered a hoodie from the Valentines Day collection from the Jeffree Star website and it was NOT a mistake. This hoodie was so worth the price. It’s super comfy and good quality, so I highly recommend some merch from him if you are into his videos and support him! I also just got the blood lust palette in the mail today and I am LIVING for the packaging and the color scheme. It’s way bigger than I thought and the swatches are SO soft. Will update how they apply on the eye after I use it offically! 3. Hanes Sweatshirts - I know, some of you probably are thinking “ew” while reading that. Hanes sweatshirts from Target, Walmart or their outlet are AMAZING and so soft AND AFFORDABLE! They are great for buying a size or two up if you like over sized ones like I do for leggings or for bed time. I’ve been wearing ones that my grandfather had before he passed and never got to wore or lightly wore and I have been feeling so good after work changing into one of these. They also sell matching pants if you’re wondering! (I have not tried the pants tho). These are a great option to use if you have a Cricut machine or do iron on things with.  4. Palmer’s Coconut Hair Milk & Mask - I LOVE THIS. I just used it in the shower actually :-) This might go under something else because I’ve found the same product in different packaging! I usually buy mine at Target, also sometimes can be found at Sally Beauty Supply. They also sell an Olive Oil one (which I bought also). The packet Mask I use in the shower after I shampoo and let it sit for 3-5 minutes before rinsing. The Milk I use damp or dry to tame static or flyways or the method as mentioned before this. They both smell so good and make my hair feel so soft and silky. This is awesome for Winter months static or summers dryness from the sun/beach.

We all know that I flipping love essie nail varnishes and have done for a really long time. So you can probably imagine just how excited I was to get my paws on the beautiful essie Summer 2017 collection*. PLUS those who get to the bottom of the blog post can enter a competition to win the entire collection. Good luck!
This year’s Essie Summer 2017 collection takes inspiration from Parisian patisseries, places which are basically heaven on earth! It’s all pretty pastels with a dusting of shimmer and a flipping great metallic thrown in there for good measure. I’m really impressed by this collection and can see a few that I hope will make it into the permanent collection. Take a look below and let me know your favourite shade, and don’t forget to enter the competition!
Swatches! Go go go!
When I first picked up ‘sweet soufflé‘, I thought it was going to be a replacement for ‘private weekend‘ which is a great white polish, but on closer inspection it has a really unusual pinky-peach glow to it. Pure white polishes can be a bit ‘I painted my nails with Tippex during geography’, but this added shimmer makes it infinitely more wearable. The formula is a little thin and streaky, so this needed three coats for full opacity.
#gallery-0-19 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-19 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-19 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-19 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Let’s have a look at the close up to see that shimmer…
‘blue-la-la‘ is a very pretty pastel sky blue. I thought it looked similar to ‘saltwater happy‘ but once on the nails it’s a bit more vibrant and less lavender. I think I prefer this to the more pastel, baby blue shades I have in my collection, it’s a very pretty colour. This was another polish that needed three coats to get rid of all bald spots.
#gallery-0-20 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-20 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-20 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-20 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
‘baguette me not‘ is exactly my kind of nail colour: a pretty pastel with a hint of grey to make it a little bit grungey and less sickly sweet. It’s a soft lilac with no shimmer and I absolutely love it. It stops just short of being too girly and cloying, and just looks modern and fresh. This was a two coater.
#gallery-0-21 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-21 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-21 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-21 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Oh how I love it when Essie do metallic polishes! This lilac-silver metallic is flipping beautiful and I don’t think I have anything similar in my collection, so I’m very pleased to add ‘s’il vous play‘ to my stash. This only needed two thin coats but, as it’s a frosty metallic, you have to be careful with application to avoid brush lines in the finish. If you have ridged nails, I’d also recommend a ridge-filling basecoat to give your nails a smooth canvas as metallics can pick up any flaws in your nails.
#gallery-0-22 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-22 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-22 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-22 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
I love this shade but it kind of feels like ‘éclair my love‘ has fallen into the wrong collection… is it just me? All of the others are patisserie-inspired, pretty and pastel and then you have a bold lobster red just nestled in there… strange. However it’s very pretty and only needed two coats, so I’ll let it slide.
#gallery-0-23 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-23 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-23 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-23 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
And last but not least is ‘fondant of you‘. This is another polish that I immediately held up next to another in my collection to compare it. If you have ‘tart deco’, this is very similar tonally but ‘fondant of you’ has a gold/pink shimmer in it. If you already own ‘tart deco’ (a cult essie shade) then you can probably skip this one, but if you’ve been thinking about adding it to your collection but like a little bit of sparkle then maybe this will be more ‘you’. This was a two coater.
#gallery-0-24 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-24 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-24 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-24 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

5 Things I’ve Been Loving Lately
1. Creamy pastel pink manis
I’ve been into opaque pastel bridal-style manis lately, specifically pale, creamy pinks. There’s something so refreshing about them… Maybe it’s because they remind me of ice cream? An added bonus is when the edges chip — which is inevitable these days, since I wash my hands about 6,924 times a day — because you can’t really see the nicks unless you look really closely.
This particular shade is by Duri, and it’s called Forever Beautiful. I’m wearing two coats along with my go-to Essie Gel Couture topcoat.
2. Archer Farms Vanilla Bean Crème Brulee Light Roast Ground Coffee
I don’t like it when coffee is bitter and tastes like punishment. Blech! Gimme a smooth and easy to drink cup of coffee any day of the week. I guess I’m a wimp like that.
Anyway, this vanilla flavored coffee from Target has very little bite, and the vanilla bean and crème brulee flavors are present but not overpowering.
I love when I can find it… Seems like it’s always out of stock these days, but I’ve also seen it available online.
3. Ooly Pastel Liners
These rainbow pastel markers are double ended.

I saved my favorite #nailpolish from the Essie Spring 2017 Collection for last. This is called #excusemesur. It makes me look tan! It is almost a #neon pastel, but not quite. This is a peach cream nailpolish, that was opaque in 2 coats; with a little dry brushing of thin spots. I used a QDTC and the polish leveled out nicely. . I received this collection from @essiepolish and @preendotme as part of the #preenmevip program. . . . #hospitalhands #prsample #swatch #manicure #essie #essiepolish #preendotme #nailstagram #mani #nailsoftheday #notd #nailstagram #naildit #nailsonpoint #nailsofinstagram #instagramnails #instanails #nailpornography

Yara Shahidi Reveals Weird Guilty Pleasures, Drugstore Beauty and More
Gotham/GC Photographs In honor of Nationwide Nail Polish Day, put your greatest fingers ahead.  Go for one thing out of your manicure norm. Select a shade you’d by no means strive. Or simply discover inspiration from Yara Shahidi, Hollywood’s next-gen trend icon. The Grown-ish actress teamed up with Essie to completely share with E! Information her one-nail responsible pleasure, movie star type function mannequin and sage magnificence recommendation. You are fairly the type chameleon—what’s your on a regular basis uniform seem like?Tracksuits are undoubtedly my on a regular basis uniform. I search for consolation and vivid colours. Something from vivid purple to blue to pastels are inside my closet—my favourite is definitely my yellow tracksuit. I’m going with the classics from Nike to Tory Burch, who supply all kinds. Our buddy, designer, Melody Ehsani has actually cool monochrome tracksuits. I really wore one to the wrap celebration for Black-ish—whereas everybody else had attire on, I used to be in my tracksuit. How do you determine which dangerous tendencies to strive and which to keep away from?Though I wish to step out of my consolation zone, I nonetheless need to really feel comfy. Loads of it has to do with “Why am I doing this?” Is it about being enjoyable, vibrant and pleasurable or as a result of everybody else is doing it? That in the end decides it. You continue to wish to really feel like your self and in your setting. RB/Bauer-Griffin/GC Photographs You usually combine surprisingly prints, colours and textures collectively. What’s your tip for making these pairings work?I do it on a regular basis, and it is all trial and error! I feel I began mixing prints on set due to Zoey [Yara’s on-screen character], since she at all times does it. After that, I needed to include this into my on a regular basis life. My stylist Jason [Bolden] does a terrific job at placing these collectively, however once more, it is all about discovering that steadiness and what feels good to you. The place do discover type inspiration?Throughout! I’ve a binder on my cellphone known as “my aesthetic” and it is a mixture of shade swatches, archive pictures, music video references—you identify it. I even have a whole lot of footage of Solange as a result of I simply love her. She is a kind of individuals who it doesn’t matter what she wears it feels so “Solange.” She will be carrying yarn, or a tree like in her music video, however it nonetheless feels so her and so proper, and it actually would not matter. What’s one stunning factor we would discover in your closet?I suppose Birkenstocks, they’re my go-to footwear for set. That is most likely why I at all times really feel like I’ve to have my nails achieved, as a result of nobody needs to see them in any other case. I at all times go for a vibrant nail shade that pops like a vivid white—suppose Essie in Blanc—to distinction my furry Birkenstocks, that are absurd. Erik Pendzich/REX/Shutterstock What’s the very best magnificence or trend recommendation you’ve got ever acquired?To concentrate on self-care first. I’ve realized rather a lot from my mom, and we at all times spoke about taking good care of your self first and foremost. She additionally taught me the significance of correctly washing your face—these delicate steps go a good distance. Additionally, I’ve realized to have a look at magnificence as a inventive outlet. Use make-up to specific your self slightly than to cowl your self. That is why I gravitate in direction of louder colours—there’s that feeling of taking over inventive house whenever you go daring. Your pores and skin is flawless—what does your routine entail?First, it is discovering a terrific cleanser. I swap them out very often simply to determine what works. I like all oil-based cleanser as a result of it helps dry pores and skin. I take advantage of something from foam cleansers to Burt’s Bees Oil Cleanser. Generally I take advantage of pure minimize Aloe Vera or vitamin E oil. Outdoors of skincare, my one make-up routine that I persistently observe is my ensuring my eyebrows are on level. I am at present rising them out so it takes work! Courtesy Essie What are your magnificence responsible pleasures?It is such random issues, like I am well-known for under portray one nail. I really like having shade on my nails however after I’m on set it is tough to match, so I am going to simply paint one in every of my nails. My go-to shade alternative is a few type of purple or a inexperienced. Essie has this seafoam inexperienced that I am completely obsessive about—Mint Sweet Apple. I additionally draw on myself; I am going to simply define my nostril with lipstick, it is enjoyable. Sometimes, you put on make-up to be extra skilled however it’s enjoyable to simply rewire generally. Favourite nail polish colours?Yellow is one in every of my all-time favourite nail polish colours. I feel it is simply the colour of pleasure so I at all times go for a yellow. Pastels are additionally nice since they match every thing. How do you want to specific your self together with your nails?I speak with my palms, so my nails are actually one of many issues individuals see first. I actually gravitate in direction of massive, daring colours. Essie’s Geranium is a go-to—it is this actually vibrant purple. Relying on my temper, I am going to both do nail artwork, like a yellow with stars or a matte black with a stripe, or I am going to stick to at least one vibrant shade. We instructed you: Type icon within the making.  http://www.eonline.com/news/940457/yara-shahidi-reveals-weird-guilty-pleasures-drugstore-beauty-and-more?cmpid=rss-000000-rssfeed-365-lifestyle&utm_source=eonline&utm_medium=rssfeeds&utm_campaign=rss_lifestyle The post Yara Shahidi Reveals Weird Guilty Pleasures, Drugstore Beauty and More appeared first on My style by Kartia. http://www.kartiavelino.com/2018/06/yara-shahidi-reveals-weird-guilty-pleasures-drugstore-beauty-and-more.html

ColourPop Polish Review & Swatches
I really wanted to try these nail polishes when I found out these came out. I managed to get my hands on all but one of the nail polishes, as the holographic polish (One Wish, Two Wish) was out of stock when I could finally order them. Plus the fact that these are only $6 each with 0.45 fl oz. so that's an amazing deal! I would rank these up there with the Essie Nail Polishes. Only the better benefit is that they are cruelty free! And I really hope that they expand this line in the future to include more shades. Either pastel or darker shades.
Shade Descriptions
Pixi-lated: No need to adjust your settings, this robin's egg blue is true blue.
First Wings First: With a swish and flick, this pastel lavender is pure magic.
Be Fairy Afraid: Clap your hands if you believe this soft baby pink is the only shade for you.
Dust a Dream: Close your eyes, make a wish, this pastel mint green is your heart's desire.
I Want it That Way: Believe us when we say, this clear with bright pink duochrome glitter is our fire.
One Wish, Two Wish: Red wish, blue wish, every wish under the rainbow in this silver metallic with rainbow holographic glitter dream.
Swatches of Each Shade
Overall Thoughts
These polishes apply with a lot of pigment and only require one coat to cover your full nail. I have been testing these ones out for the last few days, and love it. I see them to have another the same quality as Essie Nail Polishes. They chip after a few days on their own, but will last longer with a top coat and wrapping the tip of your nails. One of my favorite combinations at the moment is Pixi-lated and I Wand it That Way, as it makes it look almost mermaid-like. Overall, I really love these nail polishes!
What's your favorite nail polish?

I am sooo behind on swatching, and Essie's summer collection is one of the loveliest yet! Parisian pastries (think Lauderee macaroons my fav) are the inspiration for this super sweet collection. From top white clockwise: #sweet soufflé, a unicorn pearlescent; #fondantofyou, sparkling apricot marmalade; #eclairmylove, red candy passion; #baguettemenot, lilac macaron; #silvousplait, lavender pink foil; #bluelala, pastel Parisian blue Make sure to satisfy your #sweet tooth #essiepolish #lorealusa #essielove #nails

Saturday Surfing, February 15th, 2020
Good morning, my sweet! Happy Saturday. 😊
Crazy cat lady moment: aren’t these the cutest CCL socks? They’re a Valentine’s Day gift from El Hub, and I gotta say, when he gets it right, he *REALLY* gets it right.
I’m pretty sure Tabs briefly dated the kitty model on these socks…
So, don’t laugh, but I’m heading to Target in a few because I’m in the mood for a pale pastel pink polish, so I’m thinking either Buns Up or Crop Top and Roll from the Essie Expressie line will do the trick.
I might be a little obsessed. 🙀
While I contemplate the life-changing nature of quick-drying nail polish, you can catch up on your reading for the week.
Ever wish you could spring out of bed with all your face paint already in place? Here’s everything you need to know about permanent (and semi-permanent) makeup.
It looks like brands are once again shifting their marketing focus to makeup artists, rather than social media influencers.

Today I’m introducing the Essie x Rebecca Minkhoff Leather Collection, some cute mini sets of limited edition essie polishes inspired by the most popular Rebecca Minkhoff handbag shades.
Before we take a closer look at the Essie x Rebecca Minkhoff Leather Collection *, I wanted to give a bit of background into this collaboration. For those of you who don’t know, Rebecca Minkhoff is a wonderful designer who specialises in handbags, and in 2015 she became essie’s Global Colour Designer. Together they have put together two mini polish sets inspired by popular shades from Rebecca’s designs and – even more excitingly – the polishes have a semi-matte ‘leather-like’ finish. Intrigued? Keep on scrolling!
The sets are £12.99 each and went on sale yesterday and are available until the 24th of October in Boots, so get a wriggle on if either of these sets catch your eye!
Before we get into the swatches, I wanted to give you my overall thoughts on the essie x Rebecca Minkhoff Leather collection. Matte or semi-matte polishes can be very tricky: you have to be very careful with application as you don’t have a topcoat to smooth everything out at the end; they tend to show up any and all flaws on the nails so if your nails are particularly ridged or uneven then maybe consider a ridge-filling basecoat and a light buff of the nail plate before the manicure. Even though these polishes are minis, they still come with the lovely wider brush (hooray!) which I was very pleased about. I think I would have preferred the polishes to be fully matte, although I appreciate that the semi-matte finish was chosen to echo the look of leather. However, as it is I feel like it falls in the awkward territory between beautiful soft mattes (done so well in the essie Cashmere Matte collection) and the regular shiny polishes they release. These shades also contain lots of stunning glitter and shimmer which doesn’t really appear until you put on a topcoat which seems like a shame. I’ve swatched the colours below both without and with topcoat so you can see the finish. Let me know how you feel about the semi-matte finish? Are you a fan of textured nails?
#gallery-0-28 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-28 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-28 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-28 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Set one has the more traditional autumnal shades, with rich and luxurious dark colours if that’s your thing!
#gallery-0-29 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-29 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-29 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-29 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Tote-ally in Love is described as a ‘deep oxblood red with a flash of light crimson’. This was the only polish out of all six that needed three coats to cover all bald spots (the rest needed two). Luckily the formula layers really well, which is incredibly rare for matte nail varnishes. The beautiful red and gold shimmer gives some depth, but doesn’t show up to intensely until you apply topcoat (third photo above).
#gallery-0-30 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-30 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-30 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-30 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
In Hot Purse-uit is ‘a rich indigo blue trimmed with a glowing violet’. In the bottle it looks like it’s packed with glitter and I was so excited to get it on my nails but was a little disappointed with it in its matte form, although once I got over the lack of apparent glitter I actually really like the way it looks in that close up on the left. If you’re a fellow fan of the glitter, check out the photo on the right: the topcoat really brings out that shimmery goodness, although I wasn’t really seeing the violet tone.
#gallery-0-31 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-31 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-31 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-31 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Back in the Saddle, a ‘polished dark blue-green cast in silver’. Ooooooh this is definitely my favourite colour from this set… in both the matte and glossy forms. I think the colour works so well with that soft matte finish on the left, and the glitter actually works to add dimension to the manicure, even before I swooped in with the Seche Vite. This feels very Christmassy to me, which just makes it even better!
#gallery-0-32 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-32 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-32 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-32 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Set two includes the brighter and softer shades, so if you’re more of a pastels fan then this is the set for you.
#gallery-0-33 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-33 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-33 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-33 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Push the Envelope is described as a ‘plush lilac with a soft silver glimmer’. I have an addiction to grey-toned mauve polishes and have so many truly beautiful ones so this had a lot of competition! I wish the shimmer was a bit more apparent – maybe a stronger pink or silver glitter would have transformed this – but it just felt a little bit flat to me. However, if you’re looking for a soft mauvey polish with an edge then this is your girl!
#gallery-0-34 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-34 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-34 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-34 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
#gallery-0-35 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-35 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-35 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-35 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Cross-body Heat is described as a ‘rosy mauve accented with subtle lavender shine’ which I’m not sure I agree with! To me this is a very pretty white with a lavender/grey tone, and is definitely my favourite from this set. The matte finish works so well with the speckled effect (shown in the close up photos above) and it’s a unique shade that would look very put together and chic, while avoiding the stark statement of pure white nails.
#gallery-0-36 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-36 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-36 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-36 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Bucket List, a ‘turquoise green brushed in a light aqua lustre’. This is a very close colour match to essie ‘Blossom Dandy’, but obviously has a matte finish and a slight subtle glitter to it. I found this one the hardest to work with, perhaps just because it’s more of a pastel shade which are typically harder to layer. It still dried down well and is a lovely bright shade, although perhaps not too autumn/winter appropriate.
So which set from the Essie x Rebecca Minkhoff Leather Collection is your favourite? How do you feel about the matte vs glossy nail look? Would you wear these bare, or cave and slap on a topcoat? Let me know in the comments below or come chat to me on social media: Twitter, Instagram, Facebook.
Don’t forget that the Essie x Rebecca Minkhoff Leather Collection is limited edition and only available until the 24th of October, so run off to Boots or order online now!

I’ve had a few messages from people asking if I would be reviewing the Essie Fall 2017 collection and I’m happy to say it is so worth the wait. This collection is inspired by the 90s which – as an 80s baby – I am LOVING. There’s a definite Clueless vibe with the nails and it’s making me want to watch the film immediately. There is also a 3 for 2 deal on essie polishes at the moment, so just let that percolate while you peruse the amazing swatches below… #enabler
Before we crack on with the Essie Fall 2017 collection swatches, I have to address the stumpy elephant in the room: my nails. I broke a nail last week and the air turned blue with the swearing that ensued! As a result I had to file all of my nails down to match it so prepare yourself for the very short nails below. I know a lot of people will say that these are not short but they are for me (I’ve had to relearn how to type!) and more people will say that they prefer the nubs to my long nails (shush) so I’m getting that in straight away! The nails will be back soon, I’m practically Wolverine…
Mixtaupe* is ‘a warm ivory with a dash of pink’. I’ve seen a few people having issues with the formula of this polish but I think it applied really well for a light colour. I got full coverage in two thin coats with no bald spots or dragging. I’ve included a photo of it next to ‘Wrap Me Up’ (also swatched here) and ‘Neo Whimsical’ (swatched here) to show their similarities: I’d say WMU is more yellow-toned while NW has a more purple lean.

Saved By The Belle* is a ‘light baby pink with subtle blue undertones’ and I actually found this formula harder to work with than ‘Mixtaupe’. I needed three very careful layers to cover the patchiness which is pretty common for pastel colours. I’ve mentioned before that I have a soft spot for ‘Pepto Bismol pink’ nails, I just think they’re so fun and pretty. I’ve included a shot of it next to ‘Backseat Besties’ (on the right below, swatched here) which is more peachy, and ‘Inside Scoop’ (on the left, swatched here) which is more sheer and a little lighter.
#gallery-0-16 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-16 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-16 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-16 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
As If!* is described as a ‘powdery periwinkle blue with a hint of red’. This had quite a sheer formula on the first coat, but only needed two for full coverage. It’s such a beautiful colour that has just enough grey in it for me. I’ve compared it to ‘Bikini So Teeny’ (on the left, which is a little lighter and has a shimmer running through it) and ‘Lapis Of Luxury’ (on the right, slightly lighter with more of a grey tone).
#gallery-0-17 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-17 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-17 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-17 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Girly Grunge* is a ‘soft silvery metallic with a light purple shine’ and I LOVE IT (I doubt anyone is shocked at that news!) but I am surprised that this is the second silver-purple polish that Essie have released in the space of a few months. I would have loved to have seen another metallic but I’m not going to turn my nose up at this beauty! As with most metallic polishes you have to be careful with the application to make sure the brush strokes aren’t too messy I’d recommend doing one stroke on the left of the nail, one on the right, then one to tidy and smooth down the middle!) I’ve photographed it next to ‘S’il Vous Play’, which you can also see swatched here.
#gallery-0-18 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-18 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-18 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-18 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Knee-High Life* is described as a ‘deep wine red with purple undertones’. I think if you ask anyone to picture the classic autumnal nail varnish shade, this would be it. A rich berry shade that makes you feel chic but a little bit vampy at the same time (the photos make it look a little more red than it is in real life). This is a full coverage polish in two layers, but you will definitely need a base coat and to be careful when you remove as it will stain skin, nails and cuticles easily! I’ve compared it to Recessionista (more purple and slightly brown-toned, on the left below), ‘Bahama Mama’ (second in the row, darker and more blue based) and ‘Twin Sweater Set’ (on the right, much more red).
#gallery-0-19 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-19 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-19 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-19 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Dressed To The Nineties* is a ‘dark purple with a blue-green shimmer’ and is an absolute nightmare to photograph! In overcast daylight it looks like a very dark plum purple, but as soon as you catch that shimmer it just lights up with green and gold. This only needed two thin coats and I don’t have anything similar in my collection when it comes to the unusual shimmer. I’ve compared it to ‘Kimono-over‘ (a little more pink, on the left) and ‘Designated DJ‘ (much too purple, on the right) below. I’ve also included some pictures of ‘Dressed To The Nineties’ with a flash to show the shimmer.
#gallery-0-20 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-20 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-20 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-20 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
#gallery-0-21 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-21 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-21 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-21 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
And that’s the Essie Fall 2017 collection, which one is your favourite? Will you be treating yourself to any of them? Don’t forget that there’s currently a 3 for 2 deal on Essie polishes!
