8. Unpopular opinion about them

I am not a fan of drarry being depicted in canon universes as either 'cool masculine action hero harry'/'damsel in distress fragile draco' or 'sweet but kinda dumb and blundering harry'/'calm cool and collected ice prince draco' or 'enemies who still loathe and distrust each other postwar to very reluctant openly hostile allies to lovers.' All these dynamics are fine if you want to read/write them but the thing is...at least to me...they aren't drarry. And by reducing the characters to those dynamics you end up missing out on a lot of the nuance that makes the characters special and the ship interesting and you kinda flatten them into something pretty generic.

Contrary to popular fanon Harry is not dumb. He was supposed to be in Slytherin for a reason. He's very clever and observant and resourceful. And while he can be very kind and compassionate he also can be deadly when he needs to be and has a real temper that many people, even those close to him (though interestingly not Draco), can find intimidating at times. Draco also is a very good Occlumens and definitely matures a lot, but he's also not someone who is innately cold and dignified, much as he might wish to be. He's hot and firey and emotional too - just like Harry - but presents that in different ways. And yes in later books Draco often overcomes and masters his fears and emotions - because he has to - but it's not easy for him, and sometimes it all comes bursting out. And that makes him interesting and complex and human.

However Draco is also not a fragile damsel in distress. By the end of the series he is no longer the sheltered boy who once dramatically claimed to be "dying" because Buckbeak scratched him. He's been branded with the Dark Mark, been tortured by Voldemort himself, and used Unforgivables on others in turn - even if under duress. He's had to survive living with Voldemort and his followers in his house while he and his family were out of favor and virtually defenseless. He showed himself to be far more clever and resourceful than many would have given him credit for during book 6. In book 7 despite knowing intimately the terrible fate he was likely condemning himself and his family to if Harry & Co escaped, he didn't reveal the fact that he saw Ron & Harry had freed themselves from their bonds in the cell and didn't identify Harry and his friends, which bought them the time they needed to get away. He also held his own in a duel against Harry - who is extremely skilled - due to his quick reflexes, powerful magic, and strong ability to use nonverbal spells. Draco is tough and powerful in his own right, especially after the war and wouldn't just collapse into frightened hysterics at the slightest danger or find himself unable to fend off an angry group of younger students during 8th year.

He and Harry are equals and foils and parallels and opposites all at once. That's what makes their dynamic so interesting. They can stand up to each other and they never are afraid of each other - even when logic says they should be - and their skills and abilities and temperaments are extremely complimentary.

Also I love a good 'toxic dark bitterest of foes to lovers' fic but again, that doesn't feel like postwar drarry. They couldn't bring themselves to hate each other at the height of the war. Harry spent most of book 7 worrying about Draco. Draco risked everything for Harry at the Manor. They're not going to suddenly start a bitter feud after all the pressures pitting them against each other are gone. Postwar Draco would feel guilt and regret over his actions. And Harry, who lied for Draco after the Astronomy Tower Incident in book 6, is unlikely to suddenly decide he's angry Draco didn't end up in Azkaban. (Which is not to say he might not be suspicious of or curious about Draco's activities - but it wouldn't come from a place of hatred or openly vicious aggression.)

What's so fascinating and unique about this ship is that for all they are rivals and later enemies on the opposite sides of a war they don't hate and distrust each other the way you'd expect. Yes there's enmity and hostility. Yes they have to fight each other sometimes. But they also understand each other so deeply. And whenever one of them is actually in danger they always, always save each other.

It is this complex and contradictory relationship that makes them so interesting to me. And so unique compared to a lot of other ships and ship dynamics.

Don’t know if you’ve answered this before but what are your unpopular opinions on Beast? I’ll go ahead and make myself look bad to start by admitting that, while I hate how Trish went about it, I honestly don’t know if I would find myself attracted to cat Beast if I had been actively dating him up to that point. It would cross the line for me from “human covered in fur” to “literal anthro animal” and I have never been a furry, personally. It’s don’t know if there’s any “good” way to break up over that, and I’d hate myself, but I can at least relate to Trish on the changeup.

So, here's the thing, Anon - I don't think you look bad by admitting that you don't think you'd be able to handle Hank's change from humanoid to leonine. Hank himself could barely handle it. And it brings to mind a clip from Star Trek: The Next Generation, from an episode called The Host.

Basically, Beverly here has seen a romantic partner, Odan, change bodies twice in a very short space of time due to emergency circumstances, and now Odan is in a female presenting body, which compounds Beverly's confused feelings about how to process a very tricky and complicated situation.

I don't think anyone can really blame her for finding it hard and saying no to the relationship, honestly? She's open and she's honest about her feelings, and Odan is disappointed, but they understand, because this has been hard for Beverly just like it's been hard for them. And that's where Beverly and Trish differ.

Like, the way Trish did it? Over the answering machine? Like, just. No. That's the kicker. That's always been the kicker. And the way that she said it? Like, you had every opportunity in the world to delete that message, stop halfway through what you were saying and start again, say it in a way that didn't hurt Hank's feelings - and you chose not to. That's always been the part that's hurt the most.

This woman has presented live news coverage. She knows the importance of choosing her words carefully. She should know better. Which implies that this is just the best way she could see how to handle it, and that is a bad look. It speaks to a lack of empathy and a lack of emotional intelligence, which is on brand for Trish, given how she treated Warren after his wings were damaged by Harpoon, but it's still very, very disappointing to me.

There's never an obligation to love someone after they change. There is an obligation to treat them with kindness and respect, especially when they're struggling with the change, too.

Anyway! You wanted some unpopular opinions?

The X-Men use Beast and don't provide him with adequate emotional support afterwards, in part because they're all too wrapped up in their own problems, and in part because Hank does too good of a job of pretending that he's all right when he's really not. This is compounded by the fact that Hank's closest bonds are with the O5 and not the second generation team (Logan, Ororo, Piotr, etc), so the instant he's on a team that doesn't possess an O5 member, or it possesses an O5 member that he's on bad terms with, things go sour for his mental health, especially if he's expected to do something morally unscrupulous. There is intense significance to the fact that Hank left Utopia after Warren shut him out of his life, Bobby failed to provide emotional support after his torture, and Scott continued to change into a man Hank didn't recognise or approve of.

2. Beast's moral decline was not inevitable and it could have been completely avoided if only the X-Men would stop dragging him into their bullshit and pressuring him to do things he doesn't want to do. Furthermore, the complete lack of taking responsibility by Cyclops, Xavier, Storm, Rogue, Wolverine, or any of the other team leaders who asked Hank to compromise his morals upon seeing where he ended up in X-Force is disappointing, but not unexpected. No, Domino, he was not "always like this."

3. The 'lack of consequences' that Hank suffered as a result of his mistakes and errors in judgement prior to X-Force are not his fault, and are an indictment of poor story handling from 2012 onwards rather than him trying to avoid responsibility for those actions. Hank is, when properly characterised, a person who believes in personal responsibility and owning his decisions.

4. Hank is blatantly obviously bisexual and/or gay. If you ever say that he is the 'straightest X-Man' as a pejorative, I will immediately, and without hesitation, block you.

5. Ben Percy is a fatphobic hack and wanted to write furry blue Mr. Sinister. His characterisation of Beast is, without qualification, embarrassingly bad, and it's clear that everything he knows about the character has been gleamed from Wiki skims. Jordan D. White also holds some of the blame here for not putting his foot down and saying, no, that's not how Beast would act, but frankly, I'm not surprised a modern Marvel editor was failing to do his job on both a micro or macro level.

6. Beast's physical strength has largely been forgotten about by many modern Marvel writers, and further exemplifies how little they care about leveraging what is unique about the character. He was the original X-Men's Big Guy. He is strong. He is fast. He is nimble. He is a threat on the battlefield and can go toe to toe with Captain America. Stop making him job like he's Worf and reducing him down to his intellectual capabilities only, I'm tired of it.

7. The idea that a two dimensional war criminal (no, the idea that you're doing something bad for good reasons is NOT a nuanced one) is somehow more 'interesting' than a intellectual character being forced to battle his morality, bestial instincts, pessimism, and existential dread, is insulting, and betrays an immature approach to characterisation that I can only hope people grow out of.

Characters should grow and change, absolutely. But if that change is making the character worse, stripping him of everything that makes him unique, and shitting on years of better stories? Then it's a bad change. That's not my nostalgia talking, that's my storytelling instincts alerting me to the fact that you're an edgy 14 year old, in mind if not in actuality.

8. Cat Beast is fucking hot, I don't give a fuck if that makes me a furry. Give me his phone number right now, I'll do what Trish Tilby was too cowardly to do. (No judgement on you, Anon, I'm just an unrepentant monster fucker.)

9. S.W.O.R.D Hank is cute as fuck and I absolutely love him in this art style, y'all just need to be more open minded about artists who exaggerate for effect and believe in good expression work at the expense of realism. It's comic books. Let characters look goofy.

Beast wasn't being an obstinate bitch on Utopia because he didn't like Scott, he was being an obstinate bitch because he was heavily depressed, morally and emotionally compromised, and regularly having chunks taken out of him physically. He made the correct, healthy decision to remove himself from a situation that was destroying him by inches.

Cyclops was correct to make the calls that got mutantkind through, but Beast was just as correct that a lot of what they were doing was morally abhorrent, and someone had to remember that and remind everyone what they were losing by doing these things, because if you don't, that's how you end up with supervillains. It's not a random coincidence that Cyclops ended up disbanding his version of X-Force later on, because he knew it went too far.

11. Hank is not a traitor to mutantkind. No, he did not 'side' with the Inhumans with Inhumans vs. X-Men, he wanted to abide by the treaty that they had established, work to maintain a peace, and, when that wasn't viable, he didn't want to be part of a pre-emptive strike against an allied power that broke rules of engagement in order to inflict cruel and unusual punishments on people, including sensory deprivation, mental hijacking, and imprisoning people in fucking Limbo.

If you want to blame Hank for 'betraying' mutantkind, are you also going to hold Emma accountable for trying to commit genocide with Sentinels, or Storm for being a fucking idiot and starting a conflict over nothing, when she could have just let Hank go and tell the Inhumans what he'd found out, and the entire conflict could have been avoided? Either IvX is non-canon garbage or it isn't, but own your fucking decisions. Don't pick and choose so you can shit on Hank. This applies just as much to the fandom as it does the writers.

12. Beast is underutilised in fan works because a lot of writers don't feel comfortable writing his unique dialogue style and artists struggle with his myriad mutations (which I don't blame them for, professional artists struggle just as much, if not more so). He is a friend to everyone in the X-Men, someone that they would feel comfortable talking to about their problems with, and every time you reduce him down to just being a plot device, you do your story a disservice.

Yes, this may or may not be influenced by the AO3 Hank McCoy tag 70% stories where he delivers medical/science exposition, 20% First Class AUs, and 10% fics that dive into Hank as a character. 5% of which are probably written by me, because I have a problem.

Reminder: this is just an opinion and I don’t mean to offend anyone 💗 I am not offended or bothered by this comment, I just want to share my opinion. We can all have civilized discussions and it’s okay to disagree!

1. Very true! He HAS claimed to be the founder! They even refer to him as the founder of the brand on instagram posts, promotional videos, and on the update messages they send. But I also don’t understand how him not actually being the founder affects anyone. Literally at all. The world kept rotating, our hearts are still beating, literally no one is going to die over this. It’s fine.

2. Prices vary for multiple brands, not just his. It’s up to you whether you’d like to splurge on something nice or not. Personally, I couldn’t justify the purchase because it’s CHAPSTICK. But, I do spend more money on other items such as foundation (Rare Beauty) or even lipstick/lipgloss (Fenty Beauty). At the end of the day, when you add this item to your cart and type out your card information, it’s your choice whether you actually purchase it or not. Sure he’s advertising his product, but never is he forcing you to finalize your purchase. I’d like to add that you’re paying for the brand and the name associated with it, but if you would just like a chapstick. Just a regular ole chapstick. They sell some (like I said) at CVS and Walmart that do the job just fine.

3. Nowadays it’s very difficult and rare for ANYONE to have a completely original idea. I’m sure he never claimed to have INVENTED chapstick. Instead, he INNOVATED on a preexisting concept alongside a group of professionals (cause let’s be honest you need a team to guide you, especially when it’s your first project) to reimagine and conceptualize his idea. There are actually a variety of aspects that make his product unique. For one, it’s bigger than most chapsticks you find at the store. Secondly, it comes in extremely unique flavors. And lastly, it dispenses differently. So, no, he didn’t “create it all on his own,” but I’m sure he put in the necessary amount of brain power to MAKE it his own. Let’s take a look at other brand owners such as Selena Gomez and Rihanna. Selena and Rihanna didn’t INVENT makeup, they just made their products unique and that’s what people fell in love with. These celebrities have teams working alongside them to fulfill these dreams and ideas, but still work as the FACE of the brand. Nick did and is doing the same thing.

3. I think it was obvious that his brand and product is owned by a company. Unless Nick and his brothers had enough money to literally build a whole factory, gather materials, and then go through the process of hiring an entire staff of employees before ever actually creating and finalizing a marketable product, then yes it’s obvious the product is owned by an outside company. Everyone needs someone to help give them a kickstart, almost like a ‘sponsor.’ Surely none of us believed Nick was actually cutting pineapples and creating chapstick flavors in a secret lab.

4. I can’t speak on the ‘false claims’ this company has made, but even then: a lot of companies find loopholes. Either that, or they lie by omission. And a lot of companies OWN other companies. It’s just business.

5. If you feel personally exploited by Nicolas Sturniolo (he’s literally just a YOUTUBER) because you VOLUNTARILY purchased overpriced chapstick, then I’m sorry to break it to you but you have 1st world problems.

At the end of the day I’m just here to write and read fanfiction and these are just OPINIONS. Take them how you will, disagree if you want to, but cancel culture is gross. Let’s focus our efforts on positive things & if you truly feel the need to scratch your cancelling itch, cancel someone who actually did something wrong. Lol just love each other guys.

Well you know. This goes without saying.

What made you ship it?

Since I started with the donghua, I would say the hyperspecific scene in the Xuanwu Cave right after Wei Wuxian has gotten branded and everyone's going "fuuuuck", and Chengxian exchange a very meaningful look and Wei Wuxian says, "I have gotten hurt in Lotus Pier before too. When have I not swim the fastest?". The way they looked at each other altered my brain chemicals <3. (Also yes, lmao, the donghua is very funny because it decides to make Jiang Cheng this mega softie in the first flashback and even adds this extra dialogue during the Waterborne Abyss where they are fighting the water ghouls where he tells Wei Wuxian "we have got it" when in the novel Wei Wuxian's narration is like "as usual, Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian were competing". Heartbreaking how they completely dropped the ball after the XiYao conversation in S2 E1). The one that did solidify my stance is the famous choking-crying scene because......yeah, I won't say it. It is always heart breaking to see children lashing out in the moments of grief, especially this one that highlights how they deal with it—Jiang Cheng angry and lashing out, Wei Wuxian putting a hand over his eyes, both not wanting to show that they are crying, the rain starting—the cinematography is beautiful.

What are your favorite things about the ship?

It's about the grouchy "why do you have to always play a hero (for the others, just be mine)" as an act of love, it's about walking away as an act of protection (duty is the death of love, honour is the death of love), it's about the mourning for thirteen years, it's about missing your home no matter where you go, no matter who you are with (because it can never be enough—it's always a convenient excuse), it's about acts of self sacrifice as a love language, it's about the "raging ecstasy" and "vengeful wrath" when faced with your childhood "sweetheart", it's about broken promises, it's about childhood dreams and always wanting to stay together and failing always. But most importantly, it's about a lot of yearning disguised as angry barking (Jiang Cheng) and joking around (Wei Wuxian).

It's also about how no matter what Wei Wuxian is narrating, Jiang Cheng filters into his thoughts. Oh, the kids are flying a kite? Jiang Cheng is there. Wei Wuxian is eating? Jiang Cheng is there. The reverse is true too—they are too intimately connected and impossible to be separated.

Above all, it's about Jiang Cheng bringing Chenqing to the Guanyin Temple in perfect condition and throwing it to Wei Wuxian. Above all, it's about Jin Ling being threatened and in that brief moment of confusion, they start yelling at each other, using "the same voice they used as children".

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

I don't think I know enough about the popular opinions to say? Considering the popular opinion people have going on half the time involves arguing on how much Jiang Cheng's actions were justified (what did he do. He didn't do a single thing until Jin Zixuan died and we see him at the Pledge Rally and he doesn't even get REALLY upset until Jiang Yanli dies. Is the problem with the fake duel??? Which is admittedly something you would only see these two come up with, because yes, the only way to avoid a problem is to publicly fall out with your martial brother. But I have never seen anyone express a problem with this detective novel levels of drama, so maybe it's the first siege???) but I don't think most of the shippers have a problem with that? But if this question means unpopular opinion in general, well—Chengxian is an unpopular opinion in general, I think. But otherwise, I will leave this line here:

possibly unpopular opinion: OTC drugs, over the counter drugs meaning meds you don't need a prescription for, a med you should be easily access and buy from the store and go home without judgement....is no longer really OTC if you lock everything up behind a cabinet.

You have to wait for like 15-20 minutes for a sales associate to come over and unlock, say a cabinet of cold medicine.

The entire time they are hovering.

Which makes it near impossible to sit or stand there comparing and contrasting the different brands, to make judgement calls on which one is best suitable for you, especially if they're just sighing, rolling their eyes and telling you to hurry up.

Most of the time they lock it in a box.

Sometimes they hand it to you but other times they carry said box to the front counter.

At that point, just put them behind the counter and I will badger the pharmacist for the next 15-20 minutes about the pros cons and ingredients of said drugs.

6. What the fuck are these little credit card like cards for the OTC drug that say "Bring card to the pharmacist, meanwhile on the back is the drugs label but its damn near impossible to read because the image is blurry as heck and TINY AF. I am not that old and I was struggling to read the ingredients and side effects on the back. Your loss prevention method SUCKS. People who need medicine shouldn't have to deal with some overworked retail sales associate dropping exasperated sighs and telling you to hurry the fuck up because they have work to do, because the whole point was you wanted to shop somewhere local and get something that is on the shelf but now its locked up...I might as well go home and do the whole process online on my computer and order off online. Plus people who want to quietly shop and keep interactions at a minimum are probably just skipping the item because of the wait time to find someone with the damn key and then have to deal with the unhappy sales associate that you have now inconvenienced. Also your damn call button is BROKEN. Also sometimes people do not want to wait an additional 20 damn minutes to get fever reducer for their sick kid, when they could have just grabbed it off the shelf along with all the other things, paid and leave to take care of the kid within 5 minutes.

Also why is basic toothpaste being locked up????????? It's TOOTHPASTE. You brush your teeth with it and then you spit it out. I'm talking your basic Crest and Colgate like the $2.00 tubes. I'm not talking about the fancy electric toothbrushes, which I can understand being locked up. $2 toothpaste?????

i don’t know if this is an unpopular opinion, but it’s contrary to something i see iterated a lot in bl fandom spaces, especially on tumblr.

i don’t think branded pairings/fanservice/rpf shipping is generally bad. i actually like the branded pairings model and i believe it’s something that is unique to the thai bl industry that accounts for its popularity, especially online. i don’t think being in a branded pairing traps you into doing one thing forever and it’s nice to see a pairing develop as actors and grow their chemistry over different projects, over several years. obviously some fans can be weird and invasive about it and they suck so bad, but i think most ppl know how to have boundaries.

i think if you’re uncomfortable with fanservice, i respect you, but maybe bl fandom is just not the place for you? people like to act like bl actors are being held against their will when they do fanservice or do concerts, etc, and not to be a kpop fan about it but i don’t think it’s that serious 😭 i like the silly little songs and the elaborate stages and it’s not even that cringe, you guys just need to learn how to have fun idk. also please remember that these people are friends and enjoy spending time together. i would be so happy to get paid to act a little gay with my friends!

1. Canon I outright reject

Night Island is still around & it's still owned wholly by Armand and Daniel (though it's definitely been moved under the name of a corporate umbrella by now). Armand is far, far too sentimental to sell something that was so vitally important to him. I think he lies about it in his book for two reasons: 1. He was still wounded and lashing out at Daniel, and he knew saying he'd sold most of the island would hurt him, and 2. After QotD was published, a flood of tourists "looking" for Lestat came to the island (same as we VC fans go to New Orleans and "look" for them... we know they're not real, but...) and Armand did not like that one bit.

I also think the name was changed and it's probably open 24 hours now with a brand spanking new resort hotel circa 1999 or whatever, but it's still theirs and they still call it Night Island. And they still use the Villa regularly, and try to get Lestat and Marius to agree to host some Coven events there, too.

3. Obscure headcanon

I believe Daniel and Armand were together until 1993 or 1994, and were traveling around trying to reconnect and rekindle their relationship when they finally had the fight that split them up "for good" pre-MtD. Granted, I think for Armand it was Daniel leaving him "for good." I think for Daniel it was more "I need to take a break and clear my head, I'm going to take a time out." But they are terrible at communicating, especially when they're fighting, so... we all know how that went.

For a more fun--"fun"-- obscure headcanon, here is the worst thing I think Armand ever did in the name of weird science according to Daniel (tw: animal cruelty): he read about Edison electrocuting that poor elephant and got really interested in how that electrocution worked. So he got a fish bowl and experimented with fish. Then one night, Daniel finds the bathtub full of dead rats with a toaster in it, plugged into the wall. They definitely fought about it, and they definitely moved out of that apartment that night. It might one of the only times Armand truly skeeved him out, worse even than the rats in the microwave. He also didn't take baths for a good six months after.

Okay, sorry sorry, but that has been in my head for a while.

8. Unpopular opinion about them

I'm so bad at these because tbh I never know what "the popular" opinions are.

I guess I will say, I don't think Armand ever regretted turning Daniel and was, in fact, happy with how he turned out. We only get little glimpses into his thoughts on the matter in QotD, but he seems pretty enamored with Daniel as a vampire. For all his fears that Daniel might come to resent him for it, or no longer want/need him, he does seem pleased with the result. (Is this unpopular? I honestly do not know.)

I also don't think Daniel was a mess of a vampire or a bad fledgling. I think he experienced being a newbie vampire with an extreme intensity that made him quicker to laugh or more prone to staring at the patterns in the wallpaper, but I don't think that's particularly abnormal for a new vampire, either. I also think Daniel was especially elated to finally get the Blood - it meant not only would he not die a mortal death, but it was proof positive that Armand truly loved him as he always believed and wanted to spend eternity with him. He was riding a hell of a high, but I don't think he was mad, or out of his head, or a problem fledgling in any way.

I also firmly believe they had some solidly good years together in that time, and even though there were fights and arguments (and Armand's fears that he tried to manifest as self-fulfilling prophecy), they did actually have plenty of fun together until they split.

Again, I have no idea how "unpopular" any of that is.

Amren. She is not interesting to me at all. I can forgive a lot but I draw the line at boring characters.

I think she could be a cool character but SJM hasn’t given us much in regards to the IC, even though they’ve been part of the series since the second book. Maybe she can rectify that in the next few books but I’m losing hope, especially after HOFAS🤷‍♀️

I absolutely adore Tarquin. I think he has the potential to be a really good HL, especially since the bar is so low😭

Probably Jurian, if he counts as a minor character lol. The Bone Carver too, though his death was very anticlimactic for being a DEATH god lmao

I loveee the beach so I love the Summer Court, I feel like it’d be so nice there. I also really like Tarquin & Cresseida and I just know they’d be so fun to party with

I wanna see more of Tamlin & Rhys rectifying their past friendship. I would also like to see Lucien/Eris & their mother interacting.

What's your unpopular opinion?

I don’t really LOVE any of the mating pairs we’ve gotten so far, but I’m still a ride or die for Elucien. But also, I loved the idea of feysand & nessian until they actually got together and now I’m doubting SJM’s ability to write a good, healthy romantic relationship. Which is a bit ironic.

What's your favourite headcanon/fan canon?

That Tamlin & Rhys had a brief, violently passionate love affair hundreds of years ago and that’s why there’s so much tension between them (outside of the family murders lol). On the flip side, I also like the idea of Tamlin having a romantic relationship with Rhys’s sister and that she didn’t really, but escaped through the Starlight pool w/ her mother and Tamlin glamoured random heads to look like theirs. That HC gives me peace because it actually utilizes the magical element in these books lmao

If you were swept away to Prythian, what's ONE thing you would want to do?

Oh baby I’m going to all of the Soltice parties. Especially in Spring & Summer. I’m avoiding all the warnings and heading straight to the faerie wine. And then I’m gonna stick realllll close to Tamlin during Calanmai 😏

If you could have ONE faerie ability seen in the books, which would it be?

Ooh probably shapeshifting. I know we haven’t seen too much of it from Tamlin or Feyre (which is a shame) but Lysandra from ToG made it seem so badass. I love it. Also, winnowing sounds amazing.

This is hard to answer when SJM hasn't given us much info about other courts 😭 So I think I'd have to pick Summer Court because I love the ocean and if there are mermaids, it's over for me there. I love them!

OOhh! Umm...idk what I would name it but it would be nice if there was a court inspired by Dia De Los Muertos/ Day of the Dead. Like an underworld type of court where the High Lord/Lady there can helping the souls of prythian after they die and somehow it's associated with Starfall. Marigold Court? idk lol Like I said lame name but cool concept.

What relationship would you have wanted to see more of in the books?

Honestly, I would sell my soul for a pre-ACOTAR book that focuses on the Bat Boy friendship. Like when Cas mentioned waking up naked with some decoration around him? And Az hiccuping when drunk?? I NEED to know more.

What's your unpopular opinion?

Idek if this is unpopular but I do feel for Tamlin. He did fuck up but given other characters have also fucked up, I really hope he gets a redemption arc or is able to pick himself up. Like dude is really going through it and so are his people, someone pls save Spring I also kinda wished Amren had stayed dead. I don't hate her character but it felt too good to be true when both her and Rhys died and then they came back to life. It would've had more impact if one of them stayed dead.

If you were to be swept away to Prythian, what's ONE thing you would want to do?

I would want to experience Starfall with the IC. I love looking at the sky, especially stars and the moon and with all those hotties? Sign me tf up.

I would love to control water! Blame my mermaid fascination & h2O tv show addiction for this haha. But also making water wolves sounds so cool.

First of all, thank you for liking my monsters moodboard (I'll put it back up on tumblr again, I know a lot of you missed it!). I know not many people really care about dressing, so as long as it's comfortable and that's okay. However I prioritize looking good over comfortability. Bonus if I look good AND comfortable. Growing up with older sisters meant as much as I watched cartoons, I also watched channels E-entertainment, M-tv, Fashion the likes. We had fashion scrapbooks where we'd cut out magazines and old newspaper clippings and paste there - my immediate elder sister now makes her own clothes btw - back then, The Sun nigeria had a fashion police section outlining the dos and don'ts and fashion fails (god they were BRUTAL. I miss that column 😔 Tiktok could NEVER)

One thing that has stuck with me right from secondary school was the fact that I always cleaned up nice in regular wear. My school was one for uniforms (and they made us wear white socks instead of black socks which would have made our uniform infinite times better), so Saturday classes and summer school were my chances to shine. I also barely got new clothes and it was always hand me downs of outdated clothes so I had to figure out how to make things work with me. Fashion is a part of my identity; from my emo phase in junior high, to my J-fashion in senior secondary to university, each style is my identity at that time.

Naturally, fashion also influences the way my characters behave. If you observed cartoons, shows and TV tropes in general, you can tell what a character by the clothes they are wearing and their possible influences. In monsters, reader is new to university and new to wearing clothes that are more modern, so she observes Emma to see what people would like or not. Izana is more rebellious, I see him making his own ripped jeans from old jeans like how punks used to do back in the 2000s. Mikey likes comfort, but he knows now he has appearances to keep and follows the pattern Emma had given him to dress.

To me, there are three things important to fashion. Choosing the right colour. Choosing the right clothes for your shape and size and choosing a good quality material. The last one is important as the reason I still could reuse my sisters old clothes was how good quality it was - this is why I hate HATE fast fashion brands like Shein and influencer brands and I never buy from them 😃.

If you ask me my unpopular fashion opinions I would say: There is nothing wrong wearing dupes of certain luxury brands. Yes, people may tell you that its "pathetic" to try and look rich, but like so what? There are dupes that are really good quality -for example a lot of Aba boy dupes are actually good- and if you want to look cute why tf not? Whether anyone notices or not is none of their business, you're not bankrupting gucci if you wear a fake gucci belt. Gucci will be fine, I guarantee you.

Secondly, stacking expensive jewerly that doesn't match is tacky asf. Unless you're doing something like decora and decora has an eye for detail, stacking lines of luxury brands jewelry is the true sign of desperation, especially when you're trying to prove you're rich or fit in a status quo. Don't wear mismatched fits eg shoes that don't match the clothes, different coloured jewelry, ill matched colours just to prove you have designer items.

Lastly; stop shopping from shein.

Peach! I have a couple of questions around brands and BTS.

BTS has stood as the underdog and has stood for things that are important, that most stars don’t really speak about. Why then were they not more conscious about partnering with certain brands? For eg PUMA, The LV group? These brands actively support Israel and its actions on Palestinians.

Secondly, is the group not supposed to promote brands together? I’ve seen that JK and Taehyung are not in the Samsung campaigns and both own/use iPhones. If they can support different brands, does that not speak of individual activity contracts that they have with Hybe?

I’ve talked about this before but it’s possible you’re a newer follower so I’ll repeat it: I’m generally wary of ascribing the role of activists or crusaders for political or social causes to musicians who are neither. This is a view I have of musicians across the board and I’ve said so for Western and Korean artists. I know it’s an unpopular opinion in a world where people increasingly express their political views/affiliations through the brands they patronize, a world that’s become more tribal, but I think the reason this is happening more is due to a misdirection of responsibility borne out of political stagnation/dysfunction. When people feel unable to hold their actual political representatives responsible, they apply pressure where they can and that extends to expecting musicians they spend money on to become more politically aligned with their views and involved.

BTS have expressed personal stances on various topics and also acted as representatives for their country on other issues, but these are actions they’ve fulfilled in a contractual capacity. You’re free to view them as flagbearers for various causes, just don’t be surprised if they don’t live up to your ideal of those causes.

With that out of the way, I don’t know why BigHit isn’t more conscious/careful about the brand deals they get for BTS. On one hand it’s worth pointing out that BTS’s contracts with LV precede this latest escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, are kinda standard across the board (other outspoken artists and idols are linked to LVMH and most groups are involved with them), and all members are literally enlisted. Perhaps the contracts are difficult to break and the members being enlisted complicates the issue. But on the other hand, if they really wanted to break those contracts I’m sure they could. It’s not really an excuse lol. So it’s possible that neither BTS nor BigHit actually cares if a subsidiary they are partnered with is owned by a parent company that supports Israel. Perhaps it’s not even something the company recognizes is a problem or priority. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is one of the biggest geopolitical crisis in modern times, but the reality is that for most people it has no direct impact and so it’s virtually invisible. Much of the world is still going on business as usual and this is the case especially in Korea.

But like I said, it’s not really an excuse and it’s perfectly fine if this is a hard limit for you that impacts the support you give to BTS.

And yeah, given the members have different brand deals it’s fair to assume it’s linked to their individual contracts. BTS promote brands as a group and as individuals. But in both cases, HYBE’s contract with BTS is exclusive, meaning HYBE runs both the individual and group contracts for BTS members. Hope that answered your question.

Unpopular opinion but I don't think drake is a diddler. If there was anything shady in the messages between him and MBB it would have leaked. Drake ALSO grew up as a child star and got famous around the same age, why is the assumption that he was acting as a groomer (which, if he was why hasnt he made a move now that shes been legal for years). I feel like it is more likely that he was being a brotherly ear to listen to as one of the few people on the planet who could understand what she was going through as a child star. Also as a child who grew up in the adult world it is likely that he didn't see what was essentially friendly conversation with a colleague in the industry as anything inappropriate because he was used to being included in the adult world. I don't think chatting her up was the best choice of judgement but I also don't think the man should be branded a diddler for having been too friendly. I also think there is absolutely a racial element in everybody assuming the worst about him. Depp dated Wynona Rider when she was a 17 year old virgin and he was like 30 and that was fine with society but when a black man befriends a younger white girl we should all be suspicious even though if there was ANYTHING out of line in those texts they would have leaked. Yall are making it so that males are afraid to innocently befriend or mentor females and it really saddens me. This also wasnt a normal adult talking to a normal kid, this was a former child star giving guidance and advice to a current child star in an industry that he himself navigated at her age. We are going to brand the man a diddler for life because he allowed a teen girl to talk to him about her crushes? Like why is it easier to believe he was grooming her for something nefarious than to believe that hes just a nice guy who may not have made the best decision when it came to setting boundaries? I feel like the assumption of malice is so nasty, especially since Drank specified many times over the years that his romantic/sexual interests lie in BBW MILFs.

I really doubt either Cooke or D'Arcy would be promised to have creative control of their characters, they had to be executive producers for this and not even all popular actors can get that deal, and definitely not someone like Emma who was a complete unknown before the show. These kinds of roles in popular projects are a gift for young actors, it's HBO and its Game of thrones brand, why would they need to be promised anything?

One must understand the air around "House of the Dragon" when it was being produced and shot ...

No one - and I mean no one - wanted any part of it. After Season 8 of "Game of Thrones" the entire franchise was dead. HBO approached several showrunners and no one wanted it. In the end they came to Sapochnik - who famously hated ASoIaF, GRRM, and especially the fans - and they begged him to do it. And it was after promising him complete creative control and a blank check that Sapochnik agreed to take on "House of the Dragon".

This is important, because, Sapochnik looked at Condal and GRRM's scripts and, basically, didn't like any of it. He and his wife were interested in telling a socio-political story that was relevant to today, not something in a timeless historical fiction. And so they ended up gutting a good majority of the original treatments and rewriting on the fly during shooting - which is why there is a ton of deleted scenes that will never be seen.

Nobody believed in "House of the Dragon" ... they all thought it would be one and done because of the apathy toward the franchise.

This is all relevant, because, from this irreverent and dismissive attitude toward source material and fandom was when Cooke and D'Arcy were cast with the sole purpose of being political activists not the right actors for the job. D'Arcy was cast for her gender identity and Cooke for her activism. Sapochnik and his wife were interested in pushing a political message and using the ASoIaF brand - which was dead - to do it. And part of that was collaborating with Sapochnik and Sara Hess to craft this ridiculous feminist and leftist narrative about Patriarchy and closeted lesbians - and fucking with established canon to get their bullshit out.

There was no written agreement, it was simply promised, upon casting, in the entirely personal relationship developed with Sapochnik, his wife, and Sara Hess, that they'd get a voice in the narrative going forward.

But when Discovery bought Warner Brothers and they fired all of the previous heads of HBO, the entire thing changed. Discovery is and has been interested in making money, not pushing political narratives, especially when said political cause is deeply unpopular and garners little to no ratings or income. And so, when Sapochnik submitted his season 2 treatment, the new heads of HBO sent it right back - saying they weren't going to produce his outlines. Sapochnik threw a tantrum and left, along with a lot of people that came with him. Thus, new producers - old ones from Early "Game of Thrones" - came in and began retooling the show.

When this happened, the verbal agreement with Cooke and D'Arcy went out the window. Cause, like you said, no producer in their right mind would ever let two actresses have a say in how the show or a character is going to be developed. And now, no one is listening to Cooke nor D'Acry's wants or opinions. This apparently has set off many tantrums from Cooke, D'Arcy, and Matt Smith, who, before, could adlib or change a scene on the fly and now are hammered down in a conventional production.

It is incredibly foolish and self-important to think that they could go over the showrunner's heads to the HBO front offices and basically threaten them with a scandal if they didn't get their way. And as a result, whether, they got their way or not, they can kiss their career's goodbye. No one - NO ONE - will ever trust Cooke in a major production again.

For her sake, I hope that rumor isn't true ... but it seems so.
