I just wanted to say that i love your theories about lore and biology of rain world!
aww thanks. im not an expert by any means but evolution is like my number one favorite thing ever and i love thinking about how fictional things (which are usually designed with very little evolution in mind lol) got to that point is my favorite... RW plays into it so much its like how can i not think about the ecology of this fake pixel worm they're begging me too

Hello cool person! I really like your headcanons, especially the crack ones.
Here is a sorta crack question: I was wondering what your headcanons would be for a scenario where the straw hats are a dance troupe? (like who’d be the lead dancer or genre if my question was confusing)
Aw thank you you’re so sweet 😭🫶 oh my god this is such a good question holy crap
I honestly think the lead would be either luffy or sanji. I think luffy would actually be a great acrobat/dancer since he’s so flexible and can contort his body in weird ass ways. Sanji just has that footwork down bro. He’d be a great second lead.
Obviously Brook would be the main musician. He’s probably amazing at improvising with whatever luffy decides to do
Chopper would be the behind the stage crew along with Franky, using his heavy point he’d be lifting super heavy lights and stuff with ease! If he had to move a ton of bigass props? No problem! Franky appreciates the help since chopper’s so diligent :)
Franky would fix any sort of set issue within seconds of it occurring— like you wouldn’t even notice it going wrong bro it’s amazing. One of the lights goes out? It flickers once and bros on it, so it just looks like it’s part of the show
Nami’s totally the director of it all. Like she has everything on her clipboard and she’s got a plan for everything. Choreo? She’s got it down pat. Stage places? Check. Food/catering? Check. Zoro? Eh don’t worry about him.
Robin is definitely the main singer I feel like her voice would just be angelic. She’s the singer that gets lifted up by all the dancers and she’s wearing this gorgeous outfit as she blesses the audience’s ears with her lyrics. Franky gives her extra spotlight and cries backstage because of how beautiful it is
Jimbei is definitely the guy that gets all the connections to different theaters. Like he could probably somehow get them to perform in some crazy expensive stadium for free. He’s awesome
Usopp is the guy that makes the props and designs them/designs the sets for Franky to build. His sets are beautiful bro. Hand painted and hand made down tot he screws. He’s known as the Picasso of set design in the dance/theater world and he gets very giddy and happy when he hears people talking about him 😂
Zoro???? Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh 🤷
Jkjk I think if he wasn’t lost 24/7 he’d be the guy that checks tickets in that booth and also he probably records the show. It’s the easiest job and he stays put inside the booth (nami locks it until after the show ends so he can’t get out and get lost 💀)
But yes they’d be an amazing troupe 😭🫶 tysm for this idea omg

From this video. I....have some issues with this.
First off, I have three criteria for acceptable retcons.
It should make logical sense in-universe and not contradict solidified facts.
It shouldn't disrespect the point made by the writer whose work it's retconning.
It should be either as compelling or even moreso than what it is replacing.
And yeah, the Ansem-Xehanort retcon covers all of those bases which is why I'm glad she's defending it! In KH1 there was literally nothing solidifying for a fact that the guy was Ansem. All we had to go by were his own words; people like the Final Fantasy crew or Mickey who would know for sure how Ansem looked like never interacted with him. Nomura co-created Ansem, Seeker of Darkness with Nojima in KH1, and Nojima wrote KH2's scenario, so no-one was being disrespected - the same people retconning the character were the same people who created him. And finally, Xehanort (the apprentice, not the Keyblade wielder!) is made more compelling through this retcon than had he simply been the real Ansem, and on top of that the real Ansem is also a compelling character who has his own arc of descending into darkness as a direct consequence of Xehanort's actions, which are themselves a direct consequence of Ansem's. Xemnas in particular benefits greatly from the retcon, since his desire to become the supreme existence now makes that much more sense character-wise.
But that's not what she says about it. Instead she says:
"It's the kind of reveal that simply would not work in any other story, and as such sets KH into a class of fiction all its own. Whether intentionally or not, the reveal that Xehanort's Heartless stole Ansem the Wise's identity creates a level of separation between certain types of fans of the story. If you're here for the characters and themes of this story and interested in the way that KH specifically likes to explore identity and connection, then no matter how weird you feel this reveal is, you're still going to accept it and keep pressing forward into the story to see how they use this retcon to advance the themes and the characters. But if you're someone who only gets invested in a story for lore and perfectly consistent world-building, this reveal is going to throw you off. And quite possibly make you feel like the story itself has betrayed you even though all its done is remain true to its own meaning and ideas. And I am 100% in the former camp and have no sympathy at all for the 'no meaning, only lore' crowd, especially since this reveal makes it so the world and history is malleable if it can be turned to serve the story's themes. The freedom and flexibility this precedent gives the creators is honestly core to what makes the series so compelling to me. The games' writers are not bound even by their own previous ideas, if what they wrote contradicts something new they want to explore. And it makes the series more thematically rich for the unbound creativity it gives the creators. From this point on, if you're on board with its approach to its own history, it's here to tell you a story packed with meaningful themes and compelling characters. And if you're not on board with it, well, it doesn't care. It's going to press on, telling the story it wants to tell regardless."
A retcon that passes those three criteria I listed before should absolutely NOT be used as a justification for carte-blanche retconning that doesn't pass said criteria under some nebulous reasoning about themes and characters. There are so many fallacies in what she just said.
To claim that only people invested in lore and consistent world-building would reject retcons in the KH series while people invested in themes and characters would embrace them is demonstrably false. How do I know this? Because I personally was invested in the themes and characters, and I along with many others feel as though all of the retconning Nomura has kept doing with the series only served to destroy the themes and characters that we were invested in...and in fact, the majority of these retcons are far more centered around lore than around themes and characters! "No meaning, only lore"? That sounds exactly like what the Kingdom Hearts series has devolved into! Since BBS, "meaningful themes" are contradicted or discarded and "compelling characters" have their entire personality and purpose rewritten on a whim just so that Nomura can change up the series' lore, since that's all he cares about.
"The games' writers are not bound even by their own previous ideas, if what they wrote contradicts something new they want to explore, and it makes the series more thematically rich for the unbound creativity it gives the creators"? First off, Nomura is the only creator in the equation here. Everyone else who was there early in is now gone. More importantly, not being bound to previous ideas makes the series thematically rich? To use the most extreme scenario possible, if I wrote a story where I hammered home that abuse is a bad thing, but then decided that abuse is a good thing actually and changed up my story to reflect that, would you say my work is "thematically rich" and laud my "unbound creativity"? No, you'd call me a hack who pissed on the message of my own story. So how is Nomura any different?
Lastly, this treatment of the KH series' crappy writing with this "rah rah, do your own thing, fight the establishment, tell a bad story if you want to and don't let the haters tell you otherwise!" rebel spirit is annoying as fuck. It encourages complacency, cult mentality and toxic positivity, which I cannot get behind. This entire argument of hers is also based on a fallacy: the Ansem-Xehanort reveal, which as I already detailed passed the acceptable retcon criteria, "would not work in any other story"? To that, I must refer to this post and that reveal:
This operates the exact same way as the Ansem-Xehanort reveal: you previously thought this character was one thing (Ansem / the man who killed Luke's father) only to learn he's actually another thing (Ansem's apprentice who stole his master's name / Luke's father himself). It didn't contradict anything concrete since all we had to go by before were someone's words ("Ansem" / Obi-Wan), it didn't disrespect a previous writer's work, and it gave us a more compelling story and character than the more simplistic ones we had before. Yes, the aftereffect of one is that two characters were combined into one while the aftereffect of the other is that one character was divided into two, but otherwise it's the same. So clearly, there are other stories, very famous stories, where reveals like this can work. KH ain't that special.
Bottom line: the Ansem-Xehanort twist is defendable. Nomura and the KH series are not.

im a turkish person who lives in America and it honestly makes so giddy to see turkish artists online since i live in a part of the US that basically has no other turkish people. it gets a little bit isolating sometimes because I love our culture and our language but not many people here actually know about any of it.
To them you’re either European or Arab and it’s a little bit challenging to explain what being Turkish really is to Americans sometimes. It’s so funny when you’re like, “🤓 um actually the majority of Turkey is in Asia” and their whole world view is shattered because like how could a country ever be Eurasian i guess, what a foreign concept, “what? you’re Asian?????? No way man you’re white right?” and then the real bombshell is when you tell them it’s also a mostly muslim country that’s often considered middle eastern.
i can not tell you the amount of times people have just out of the blue asked me what my race is. i guess its because of how intertwined race has been with American society and their view of identity throughout history. white with an asterisk i guess. like white as in i have all the privileges that come with being a white person but also not exactly being what people here think of when they refer to you as white or having white experiences. and thats ok i guess since white is more of a flexible umbrella term used to identify who has more racial privilege and power in American society. shit gets bonkers confusing sometimes. they should give you a manual that explains all this when you move to america fr.
sorry that was long and a little bit embarrassing to write in a tumblr anon thing but uhhhh just ignore all that ig resimler süper ya!
Where's that one Tumblr post... ah here it is
It's been an interesting experience to come to America after the discrimination in Europe because American discrimination is very racially motivated, as in if you have white skin, and you're not visibly Muslim (eg. are not a hijabi) you're considered and treated mostly white in public spaces which is a great privilege. This is also present in Europe mind you, like very much so, the way they treat Black and brown people is just as horrible and present in Europe as it is in America but they're also incredibly nosy on top of everything, and they'll clock you the moment you speak the language or you look even the slight bit ethnic and start treating you differently no matter if you have white skin. On one hand it's xenophobia sure, but really it has been ethnophobia for me more than anything (I've been mocked for my big nose, bushy eyebrows, hairy body, thick accent, etc).
I did have one defining moment when I first came here in America, I must've been around like 6 or 7 and this was post 9/11 and I distinctly remember we were at a Walmart (we were tourists) and I think we had some sort of miscommunication with the cashier and my mom was speaking Turkish to me bc I didn't speak English back then, and I think she mentioned God and it sealed the deal for the white woman behind us at the line and she started screaming for security. I obviously didn't understand it at the time and now my mom laughs a bit when she tells the story to our relatives or strangers, but it was clear that she got really scared and worried at that moment knowing how aggressive police and security is in America. She had no idea how to deal with the situation, especially since I was there (my mom's a bit of a short fuse) and she did not want to put me in danger, is what she'd later tell me.
I'm privileged that I haven't experienced anything like that or what I've been through in Europe ever since I moved here. But it does hurt a bit when I try to speak about past experiences with discrimination ive personally faced and people try to discredit me because I don't look ethnic enough for them (which is weird bc these are all things I've heard white people say mostly and bc like I've mentioned earlier have been endlessly mocked for when I was younger), which I understand bc it's different in Europe than it is in America. I even had someone on twitter zoom into a photo I posted and perform some weird like eugenic analysis as to why I don't deserve to speak up abt topics I've had experience with before based on ONE photo I had edited bc I was again struggling with body imaging issues and hated my ethnic features. It was very weird...
Still I find it odd that many people don't consider the Anatolia as part of Asia because it was considered the Orient and exotic for so long, and white people saying that now just feels so very wrong to me bc it feels like they're trying to erase how much influence they and their words had on the people and the land through Orientalism. I mean, the first word of advice my mom gave me when I told her abt the weird stuff my classmates were calling me as a kid was "they'll always see you as a barbarian, don't bother" in such a tired and defeated voice.

stinky my beloved hello!! to satiate my insanity will u please answer some of my questions about your sims? i personally would love to know more about them, for example, do any of your sims have any small details/quirks that we are unaware of? like, lisps? stutters? do they walk really fast? waddle? limp? do they secretly have 6 toes? 3 nipples? do they believe in a certain superstition? ,etc. i must know pls 😔
hello elizabeth!! u have such a nice name heh <3 thank u so much for the fun q's!! honestly im just gonna spit a bunch of random facts out so oh boy here we go so
vaughn is really flexible, and he's double jointed in a lot of places. sometimes he likes to contort his body in weird ways to gross annie out. it works every time!
breanna is never fully idle, even when she's just standing somewhere she's usually always rocking back and forth or bouncing up and down. her favorite way to stim is by wiggling her toes or playing with her hair!
breanna and vladislaus are both bisexual, but they're also really shy about this fact. so, they're pretty much the only people who know this about each other. as they grew up in a place where they weren't allowed to express their sexualities, they've learned to repress those feelings. even though they live in a more progressive society now, they still find it difficult to express their feelings about their sexuality, more so for vladislaus than breanna, but breanna still feels awkwardness about describing her sexuality too. none of their children know about their bisexuality, though they would admit it to them privately, if they were to ask. it just never came up, so they never found a reason to share this fact with their children.
the straud children also don't know much about their parents background. none of them even know that breanna and vladislaus used to be human, since breanna and vlad don't like talking about their lives as humans.
the human world credits vladislaus and breanna for exposing the supernatural world, and they are considered "the first vampires." though the supernatural world knows they are not truly the first vampires, they allow the title, because most supernaturals still want nothing to do with the human world, even after 20+ years of being integrated in it. vladislaus is especially infamous in the human world, as he was discovered mid-vampiric blackout, terrorizing the human world. breanna is viewed much more favorably, as she was discovered while trying to stop vladislaus from harming the human world. either way, though, the straud family lives in infamy, and most people avoid them because of it.
gen hates touching people because they're afraid people can read their thoughts through physical contact. so whenever someone goes to hug gen, gen has to focus really hard on not having "Bad thoughts" while they're in contact, so nobody can read their unsavory thoughts. usually, gen achieves this by repeating a phrase in their head, something generic, like, "how's the weather? how's the weather? how's the weather?" or something to that effect. lucien and vlad have this too, but to lesser extents. it's worse with gen. that's why they avoid physical contact 99% of the time
every time caspian finds a four leaf clover or sees a butterfly flying about, they make a wish :)
also, like breanna, caspian is never fully idle. even when he stands, he's always rocking back and forth. they also wiggles their fingers a lot, or crack their wrists, especially when they're nervous.
klaus believes in ghosts, of course! he often plays guitar to coax ghosts out of hiding, because he has the belief that ghosts love music :) which they do btw
anastasia is really comfortable around gross stuff, she's not squeamish in the slightest. she's exposed herself to various grotesque images online in her attempts to build a tolerance to gore, so that when she becomes a doctor she won't be grossed about by performing surgeries. weirdo lol
wolfgang's nose twitches when he lies! he's a bad liar, but he still lies often in spite of this. luckily for him, he's a smooth talker, so most people don't recognize when he lies. only those closest to him do
every night before bed, vladislaus prays that the next day will be kind and no harm will be done. if he doesn't do this before the day ends, he feels really anxious that something will go horribly wrong. so it's become his ritual to pray before bed. though he's no longer a practicing catholic, he still believes that god does exist
in my universe vampires have three magical classes: charmers, exhaustion, and strength. every vampire may belong to a combination of these three classes. klaus belongs to the exhaustion class, and one of the side effects of his powers is that his emotions are significantly dampened. because of this, klaus must set alarms on his phone, reminding him to eat, because otherwise he will forget to do so and may accidentally release his dark form, since his powers prevent him from feeling hunger. vladislaus, gen, and nikolai experience this too, but to lesser degrees, since they are influenced by more than one magical class, unlike klaus, who is only influenced by the exhaustion class and therefore feels these effects more strongly than the rest.
most of the straud children belong to the charmer class! this is because vladislaus belongs to all three classes, and breanna belongs to the charmer class alone. one day i'm gonna make a chart for who belongs to which magical class bc i'm always getting them confused hahahaha.
breanna's favorite place to be is by the ocean! however, they don't visit often at all, because vladislaus has trauma related to water. but she dreams of seeing the ocean often. if it were up to breanna, they'd live in sulani forever!!
to follow up on that last point: despite what ts4 claims, yes, vampires can, in fact, get sunburns. breanna will burn within 15 minutes of being outside, which is why she and all the strauds are expected to apply sunscreen before leaving the house, even on cloudy days. and rest assured, she hates this process. the stickiness of the sunscreen grosses her out every time. it's probably the one real reason why she hasn't forced vlad to move to sulani. can you imagine all the sun that place gets? and how much sunscreen poor breanna would have to apply every hour to prevent herself from getting burned? gross...
#jade answers#silentgrim#straud asks#thank u so much for this fun ask! i had so much fun typing all this hehehehehehhehe

Supergirl
Chapter 2: Forgotten (partly written)
AN: Nothing coordinates to Haikyuu actual timeline they would be older. And everything about Y/N gymnast career is made up, I don’t know too much about gymnastics.
You have just arrived back in your hometown after three months away in Tokyo. Gymnastics demanded you leave Hyogo to train at the best facility especially after the 2012 Olympic where you won three gold metals and you have to defend your title as the world best right now. You spent most of your time in gym, more the 8 hours a day, to perfect your routines. It meant you don’t have much of a social life outside of those that went to the gym and the few people you still talked to in Hyogo. You have been lonely, but that’s just how life is sometimes. Slowly you look around for some blonde hair and can’t find any. Waiting a few more awhile more you finally decide to text Atsumu.
You progressively get more and more nervous and angry as the time ticks by. Eventually you give up and start walking to the twin’s school seeing as it was closer to the trainer station then your home. Each step you take fuels your anger. Honestly you understand that Atsumu was just as passionate about volleyball as you were gymnastics, but you never have forgotten about any of your friends due to that passion. You see the gym come in to view and hasten your pace. At that moment you decide to be slightly cruel as you watch the boys practice from the door. You take out your phone once more and call Atsumu seeing him sit at the sidelines to let the backup setter practice with the starting lineup some. Watching as he grabs his phone, rolls his eyes and answer with a huff.
“This better be good”
“You’ve forgotten something”
“No I don’t believe so”
“Oh really”
“Ye I’m sure.”
“Think really hard Atsumu”
“Ugh, even if I did it probably isn’t important enough for you to call me in the middle of practice Y/N”
Both Osamu and Aran glance over at Atsumu with sympathy in their eyes. They both had tried to tell him earlier that he had to go get you but he had already locked into practice by then.
“Turn around jerk”
And so Atsumu does realization and horror appear on his previously annoyed face as his eyes catch yours. You hang up and walk to sit down on the other side of the court no longer looking at him. Your face remained neutral even though you were seething on the inside. Aran, Osamu and Kita all gave you some form of hesitant acknowledgment knowing how angry you must of been. Practice comes to a close after awhile and you head straight to Osamu. Forcing a smile you greet your long time friend while ignoring his twin.
“You mad”
“Extremely”
“Mad enough to forget ya mad at me”
“No not really. But nothing piss Atsumu off more then someone picking his twin over him”
You still smiling as you talk to the calmer twin. Osamu could see the slight edge to the grin that promised retribution and he really didn’t want to be on the other end of it. To try in get back in your good grace he would play along to whatever stunt you were about to pull. He, however, is not prepared for you to throw your arms around his neck pulling your self much too close for anyone who isn’t lovers and plant a kiss right next to his lips.
“Samu I missed you so much!”
Osamu watches his twin study them predatorily from a far as you continue to press yourself closer to him not that he minded that part. He minded that his team that had yet to meet you were now watching the scene unfold before them. Out of the corner of his eye, Osamu sees Suna whip out his phone as Atsumu marches over to them. You planning on Atsumu engaging you guys only smile to Osamu as his twin yanks you away from him.
“No, hi Tsum?”
“Hi Tsum”
The amount of venom dripping from those two words even made Kita flinch back. Atsumu only pouted more as you looked back at him unimpressed before turning back to Osamu with a (fake) lovesick smile. Osamu basically groan in his head plays along and brings you back to him. You quickly deciding to escalate this hop up and wrap your legs around his waist. He barely stumbles as he holds you tightly smugly looking at the blonde.
“You’re my favorite Samu. Always so nice, so happy we finally got together”
It’s almost like you stabbed both the twins with that. Whom your oblivious ass was unaware have been pinning after you since middle school. Neither made a rule because if either of them did it would ruin your friendship with both of them. So they locked up their feelings and just supported you and coped in their own ways. You turn just enough to watch Atsumu’s face turn red and him lunge. Being quick, agile and flexible you easily escape before you fall down with the twins. As Atsumu as about to start ripping into Osamu for asking you out Aran, knowing where all of this was going, covers your ears. You think it’s because Atsumu is screaming obscenities, but just before Atsumu can start talking Osamu gives him a hard wack.
“Dude shut up, n/n, is obviously fucking with you”
“Aw I was hoping to kill two birds with one stone”
Sometimes you were extremely bitter, and usually the twins are here for it, but not when it is directed at them. You send them both one last glare before helping them both up. Quickly you give Atsumu a short hug that he doesn’t even have time to reciprocate. Aran walks over and gives you a sympathetic pat on the head before he too got a hug.
“Who is this”
Suna asks putting his phone away raising an eyebrow. He gives you a quick glance over before looking at his teammates expectingly.
“Y/N Y/L/N, the twins childhood friend”
Aran explains gently and quietly. You now over your anger, mostly, give the newcomer a bright smile. The middle blocker furs his eyebrows.
“Why does that sound familiar”
“You see, Y/N here is an Olympic athlete who won three gold medals in 2012,”
Kita claims as he places a hand on your head shooting you a gentle smile that you easily return. Suna has the decency to look at you impressed and with a nod of acknowledgment he drops that. You, however, are now intrigued by the tall man and step towards him.
“And you are?”
“Suna Rintaro”
“Oh, you’re Suna”
“And?”
“Nothing, the twins talk about you sometimes”
“Weird, they never talk about you”
“We do too!”
“Don’t listen to him, Supergirl, we brag about our badass best friend all the time, or at least I do”
Cue Osamu hitting Atsumu upside the head. You laugh it off. Before Kita calls for the boys to change and leave. As everyone disappears into the bathroom Kita walks over to you with a bag.
“I assumed it was suppose to be a surprise to the twins”
You look into the bag to find his jersey and give him a gracious smile. Kita could always tell what was going on even though he hadn’t known you long. He knew it was more then Atsumu’s fan girls or Osamu’s teasing though Osamu’s teasing had something to do with it. He then too goes to change you put that bag in the duffle bag you had brought, so the twins wouldn’t know. Soon they show up no longer sweaty and in fresh clothes. Atsumu slings a arm around your should with such casualty that one might believe it had been done for years (it has been), but you not having any of it give him a tiny pinch. He quickly takes his arm back with a Yelp then glares at you. You merely tilt your head basically begging for him to retaliate so you could put him back in his place. He knows this so he says and does nothing. Osamu having had just watched this whole interaction takes your duffle bag from you.
“You coming over for dinner?”
“Nah really just want to go home and sleep”
You honestly didn’t mean it in a petty way to avoid them. You were tired from the traveling and it was late. Only when you see his face droop do you realize that’s how he took it.
“But maybe come over tomorrow and we could fix Saturday breakfast together”
You offer him a truce which he gladly takes. Neither of the twins like you being mad at them, but sometimes they forget you have feelings. You’re Supergirl to them, indestructible. They walk you to your apartment building and wave at you good night before they leave for their own home. Osamu lays in his bed thinking about the day events. He’s about to go to sleep when his phone goes off.
Masterlist
(A/N: I am sorry that your dialog is pink. I hate when people associate women with pink but it just how it worked out. Also sorry it this doesn’t make sense I wrote it on little sleep. ☺️)

Hi, I have a question, and I hope it would be interesting for you too... Could we talk about angel's wings and feathers?..
I always thought that angel's wings were a part of their true form, a kind of energy which we can only see as a shadows or electric sparks or ash or something like this.
And I didn't think that it could be a real wings with feathers as bird's. Until, while rewatch, I've noticed that angel's feather were mentioned in SPN at least twice (maybe you've noticed more?):
1) In 8.12 when Henry Winchester time travels he uses an angel feather in spell. And then Dean tells that Henry stole an angel feather from the trunk of the Impala. So feathers are reall??? Why did the Winchestets keep the feather in the trunk of the Impala and where they get it? (ok, maybe they found it in the bunker)
2) In 12.13 Sam uses a white feather in spell returning Gavin back in time (we know this spell needs an angel feather)
So now we can see how the real angel feather looks like???
Does that mean that the angel's wings can be presented in physical world like a real wings with feathers and this is not fanfiction? I like this idea so much.
I think that the creators of the show didn't let us to see it, as many other great things, that is sad...
I would really like to know your thoughts about this.
(Sorry for my bad english, it is not my native language...)
Hi there! First off, your English is fine! (lol it’s my native language, and I just typed it “Inglish” by accident, so you’re already doing better than I am :’D)
ETA: DON’T REBLOGGY THIS YET. I forgotted something that @thayerkerbasy just reminded me of, and I’m editing this post... brb... okay NOW YOU CAN REBLOGGY!)
As far as I know, those are the only times in canon we ever see or hear mention of an angel feather, and both times it’s for the same exact spell. They reference that it’s Henry’s spell when they use it again in 12.13, but make no mention in dialogue of it being an angel feather. Yet Sam had a whole jar of fluffy little pin feathers, so the assumption is that they’d been collecting them for a while (unless those were either found in the Men of Letters’ spell ingredient stockpile when they moved into the bunker, or otherwise given to them by Cas at some point).
It’s weird, because they seem like a very limited commodity, especially after the angels fell and their wings all burned up. Even after Cas got his original grace back, his wings never seemingly recovered. When we did finally see his wing prints in 12.23, they were still... not healthy... So my thinking is that any spell that would require them will become impossible to cast when their current supply runs out. All the other angels-- at the end of the series-- were either dead or locked in Heaven with their broken wings. We never learned any of their fates. Maybe they were all rendered obsolete under the Heaven Remodel?
A little behind the scenes from the early days of SPN as a bonus, since it’s tangentially relevant:
When they were filming the very early episodes of SPN, they had a lot of choices to make about what to show us based on what their budget would allow them to portray. Think of an episode like Wendigo, 1.02. One thing I see people say often was that it was a shame we didn’t see more of the monster, but only saw like... bushes shaking, or a vague form moving through the underbrush, or a blur. They made a stylistic choice right there to keep it within budget.
The options they faced were showing us a “dude in a rubber mask” type monster and showing it more, versus one really terrifying shot of a Proper Monster™ dying in spectacular fashion. Rather than go full-on cheesemonster, they chose to leave most of it up to our imaginations, giving us glimpses or hints of the monster.
They went back and forth on this a bit over the years, attempting to show us more on occasion, but most of those times the audience reaction has been varying degrees of wtf... Think about some of the scenes where they attempted to give us more than a glimpse at the supernatural, or a blood splatter, or whatever. It didn’t always work well. Think: the wire fight from 13.23...
I mean, it took us until 11.14 to ever see an angel “flap away,” when we saw Casifer zap Dean off the exploding submarine.
For the most part, I appreciate the fact that they understood the limitations of their own budget and didn’t give angels cheap little wings just to be able to show them on camera. Over time, only being able to see them as shadows, or as char after the angel died, became part of the lore of the show.
I blame Adam Glass for writing that spell, because he probably thought it sounded cool or whatever, that it was effectively a throwaway line because no other spell they’ve ever used has required an angel feather as an ingredient, and in story it was only linked into this larger Men of Letters Legacy plot that in retrospect feels like Chuck tying up loose ends and putting previously “deactivated” plotlines back into play.
I do find it kind of interesting that both iterations of this spell (the second resurrected by Bucklemming) were both tied to Abaddon. Henry’s spell in 8.12 brought her into the story from the past, she eventually travelled to the much further distant past to bring Gavin into the present (presumably with her own power alone, no angel feather required), and then after she was killed, they used the spell to return Gavin to his own time. So in a a way, the spell was part of a closed narrative loop, never to be referred to again.
Kinda wild that we’d never heard of angel feathers being a thing for spells until we learn that Dean apparently had some just stashed in the trunk, though... :’D
As for how corporeal angel feathers are/were, they exist in the earthly plane enough to leave char marks when they burn, when an angel is killed, so they must always have had the potential to manifest physically. I can’t imagine they ever would’ve had a budget to show us anything more than what we usually saw, though. It did give them a LOT of flexibility over how exactly they presented them to us when they DID show us. And I can’t even imagine the suffering Misha would’ve endured as an actor spending all those years wearing some weird wing harness rig. It would’ve been... impractical. And the CGI the show could’ve afforded-- especially in earlier days-- would’ve been... bad...
But what they were able to show us? Was often awesome. Remember when Raphael showed off his wings in 5.03? LIGHTNING!
And when we finally did see actual corporeal-appearing wings in 8.23... it was Dramatique™
And for More CGI Is Sometimes A Bad Thing Science, please have the attempt at Michael’s “true form” from 14.01:
It’s kinda a super-letdown after AU!Michael’s previous shadow wing displays from 13.01, but more specifically from 13.22:
those... were... badass...
Even the pre-wire-fight wing shadows on Dean were badass:
But if they’d tried to show us more of them, to make them move through action scenes for example, it would’ve been... bad...
So what we’re left with is the knowledge that there is some sort of corporeal element to wings that we simply can’t see most of the time, but clearly angels have the ability to show or hide them at will, even from other angels. Could it be an act of will on the part of the angel that manifests a bit of their grace in the form of a physical feather? Honestly, that’s the theory I’ve personally adopted toward canon. In fanfic, I’ve read tons of various headcanons about what angel wings are and how they function-- everything from “a manifestation of their true form” to “angels share a lot of traits with birds” to “an extension of their grace,” and everything in between.
I personally, in canon, like to think of it as akin to how they’ve used angel grace for other spells. I mean, when we recall that angels haven’t been on Earth much for the last few thousand years (aside from at least a couple of known incidents where angels interfered with humanity, like Ishim and Company in 12.10, for example, and the presumptive extension that the Men of Letters knew of the existence of angels and likely summoned one up a time or two the same way Lily Sunder had, giving one explanation for how Henry Winchester knew of this spell and had an angel feather to use for it, but also recontextualized when Lily Sunder taught us that humans can use their own souls to power spells in the same way angels used their grace... which sort of makes the notion of needing an angel feather AND his own soul to charge that particular spell in 8.12 a bit redundant unless Lily’s knowledge of angelic magic was more advanced than Henry’s... hrmpf.... so much tangent... back to the point)...
We did eventually learn of other spells that required an angel’s actual grace, not concentrated in the form of a feather. The Angel Fall Spell in 8.23 being the prime example. Metatron took ALL of Cas’s grace for that one, even if he didn’t use all of it for the spell and left a “fragment” (Metatron described it as “not a lot, but enough.”).
ETA: HECK. I have 9.03 on the tv right now and it’s distractedly made me disgusted enough to have forgotten something that Thayer just reminded me of: Lucifer’s “fossilized feather” in 12.07. It held enough grace to restore and heal him after Rowena’s spell in 12.03 had degraded him. Which really only adds to the theory that “feathers” are simply bits of grace that have been rendered solid somehow, but that can be transformed back into grace as needed.
And then there was the Rift Spell for travelling to alternate universes that required archangel grace, as well as the time travel/ward breaking spell that Sam found in 11.14 that ALSO required archangel grace specifically. Would these spells have worked with an archangel “feather?” Possibly, if material feathers are somehow just crystalized bits of grace, but since we never got a full explanation in canon, and never even really saw corporeal feathery wings that dropped feathers or could be plucked, and never even had mention of corporeal feathers outside of their use in this single spell, it’s really up to our own interpretation. And I kind of like it that way, because that way we get to have fun little discussions like this one. :D
I know this isn’t a definitive answer, but it’s how it all makes sense to me, in the hand-wavey sort of way that all of canon works. :’D

Alright, chaos ask time. How about all the sweet asks for Elizabeth?? :> (and/or Samatoki!!)
oh boy, this is the big one
I will be doing both because I don’t have it in me to say no to either of them
🍩: What’s one thing your f/o has done for you that you thought was very kind and thoughtful of them? How about something you did for them that they considered exceptionally sweet of you?
Elizabeth: For Elizabeth, it was Yua being willing to find something specific from the outside for her. Of course, she would just get it herself, but having Yua willing to make the effort meant more than the food itself. For Yua, as mentioned below, Elizabeth is often keeping an eye on her and making sure she’s safe; once she made an appearance to chase off someone who wouldn’t leave her alone. Perhaps a bit extra, and perhaps a shocking overstep before she was willing to leave her duties before, but that made it mean all the more.
Samatoki: For Samatoki, he’s still grateful that she’s willing to put herself on the line to help keep Nemu safe. He knows it’s not just for him and doesn’t kid himself that it is, but there’s a deep respect from him for doing this. For Akiko, it might be their first meeting; he had no reason to have to intervene when someone was harassing her, but he did. She’s still so appreciative.
🍫: What do you both think is your greatest strength as a couple?
Elizabeth: Yua and Elizabeth are very devoted to one another. Elizabeth is willing to leave behind her duties and the only life she has ever known if it means keeping her safe. But at the same time, Yua, mortal and fragile as she is, is willing to risk her life before. There is little they wouldn’t do for each other, and it’s a testament to the strength of their love.
Samatoki: They’re stronger together than they are apart. Not that either of them is a weak person, I’d honestly say they’re both particularly strong people, but they also know how to cover each other in a way that the two of them are more than they would be alone. If that makes any sense.
🍨: If someone forced you two to participate in a dance competition, what song would you dance to?
Elizabeth: There’s a very easy joke I could make here, considering her tag. But honestly I associate her more with city pop! So I’m going with Selfish High Heels by Yung Bae.
Samatoki: This was surprisingly a struggle, and I settled on DVNO by Justice for no reason but vibes alone.
🧁: What’s something that your f/o has told you that you’ll never forget? Maybe a compliment that made you feel truly loved or something goofy they said when they were half-asleep that you’ll keep laughing at till the end of your days? How about the other way around?
Elizabeth: Yua always remembers Elizabeth talking about how “beautiful” her potential was and how much she loved it; up to this point their relationship had been (largely?) platonic, and this was her first hint that something was going on. It was also shortly before Elizabeth began leaving the Velvet Room to see her, so it was a big sign. Elizabeth remembers her saying she’d love to do anything in the outside world with her; it was kind of an “I love you” in not so many words. She knew her gracious guest would have done so anyway, but to think she wanted it so much - truly enough to move her to tears!
Samatoki: Something Aki always remembers is from earlier on, before she was even in the Party; she mentioned off-hand needing to get home from the burlesque show later than usual, and Samatoki, without hesitation, messaged her to “get home safe.” She wasn’t used to that level of concern about her. It’s something he continued to show, even as she was swept into the Party and then as they both considered romantic feelings. Either way, it meant something to her. For Samatoki, it was her saying she’s always here to listen. It just felt genuine, and it was a sign that maybe his wall was cracking.
🍦: Are there any new activities that you’d like to try as a couple?
Elizabeth: oh so much. Elizabeth, on account of being a Velvet Room resident, is pretty sheltered. But there’s just so many foods for her to eat, and things to do, and events to attend. Imagine her getting to attend a party with Yua! She’d be so excited.
Samatoki: Aki has the oddly specific desire to dance with him. He probably feels a little outclassed (I mean, she’s danced for how many years?), but it’s just an experience she’s itching to have with him. It doesn’t even matter if he’s any good, so long as they’re enjoying themselves.
🍪: What’s one simple thing that one of you does that makes the other’s heart melt?
Elizabeth: Elizabeth loves new experiences, and moreover, she loves food. She adores being brought new snacks from the outside, and she makes her gratitude very clear whenever Yua brings her one. On the other hand, Elizabeth is often keeping watch over Yua - and at least once, Elizabeth has intervened in a situation to keep her safe. She often doesn’t know at the time, but it gets her quite emotional if she hears about it after.
Samatoki: Something that has been a constant in her relationship since the beginning, Samatoki is always making sure that Akiko is safe and not being disrespected. He’s quick to intervene if someone is being creepy or disrespectful (again), and it really does mean a lot to Aki, considering her situation. For Samatoki’s side, Aki is nothing if not a good listening ear. She’s always available for him to let off some emotions, and maybe it’s not that unusual, but it means a lot to him.
🍰: What do you think your life will look like in ten years? Do you and your f/o plan in getting married or having kids?
Elizabeth: Things are often unpredictable, largely because Elizabeth herself is unpredictable, but also because her world and Yua’s interact in unpredictable ways. It’s hard to say for sure - however, Elizabeth is interested in marriage, and while it wouldn’t necessarily have political implications for them, the symbolic importance is very high to her.
Samatoki: Oh boy. I don’t think either of them really knows. Their relationship is still so young, and so many things can change. That said, though, Aki does think she’s serious about him, and the feeling is mutual I’d say. They are entertaining the thought that this could be for the long term.
🍓: What do you think is the main reason your relationship is so successful?
Elizabeth: As mentioned before, the devotion, but particularly that combined with flexibility. Their relationship is powered by deep admiration and love, combined with enough versatility to confront the unusual challenges their relationship will face. Despite the fact that their situation is just so weird, they keep finding ways to make it work because they love each other.
Samatoki: A lot of patience and care. Their situations are very different and often seem incompatible, but their care for one another motivates them to work through it. They’re very persistent and determined to love each other through it all.
🍒: Do you think your personalities complement each other?
Elizabeth: Yes! This one is another one of those situations where the contrast is what they need. Elizabeth is vibrant and wild and full of wonder, bringing light to Yua’s heart; Yua’s calm and level headed personality grounds and guides her. They work very well together!
Samatoki: Another yes! Though I think they’re more similar than Elizabeth and Yua. They have some similarities to draw them close, but they can cover one another’s weaknesses and make each other stronger. I say they’re very complementary.
🍎: Do you have any quirks that you didn’t notice until your f/o pointed it out or vice versa?
Elizabeth: Almost everything about her is a quirk! A lot about her often reads as unusual due to the fact that she is a Velvet Room resident and is sheltered from the outside. Yua eventually gets good at reading her unusual expressions and body language. And in return, Elizabeth catches a lot about Yua! Her many expressions, her habits, her specific phrases (which she sometimes picks up herself) - she catches it all.
Samatoki: I mentioned before that Aki catches on to his stressed/angry/upset tells. The jaw clenching, the hand shaking, the terseness (more than usual). It’s not a quirk in the same way, but it means she can catch on to his negative feelings fast and often before others. And I discussed how he knows she has something on the mind, but he notices a lot more about her than just that. He’s the one to notice her weird little behaviors when she’s feeling something or something is on her mind. How she forgets where she’s put things more if something is upsetting her, or how sometimes if her eyes keep flitting away from his she’s feeling very strongly. I feel like he’s an observant sort anyway, but especially for her.
🍉: What do you think is the most valuable lesson your relationship has taught you?
Elizabeth: It’s the persistence and adaptability! They can’t always predict the strange things that their worlds and lifestyles colliding will cause, or what potential obstacles it will bring them. They always have to be ready to change course to tend to each other’s needs, and I don’t think either has any problem with that.
Samatoki: Like I said, it has to be that persistence. That how much they care matters more than their circumstances, or most other things. How much they care means they can work despite what comes at them.

Doc recommends novels ask: Hi, Doc! I enjoy a fantasy realm or two, but could happily leave the romance/love triangles/etc behind. Also, it would be great to get to know a world that has real impacts and consequences for their magic system, with logical and interesting world-building included. Any recommendations of novels that might fit this description?
This is hard because I don’t generally enjoy fantasy! Which isn’t to say it’s without merit at all, it’s just not something I personally enjoy, partially due to something you bring up, which is that the magic systems are incredibly flexible to the moment, and I don’t much care for that. That and I am less of a person who enjoys building out a fantasy or sci-fi world than I am the person who wants to get into the brass tacks of what people are thinking and feeling and what is the human element of all of it?
"I stopped believing there was a power of good and a power of evil that were outside us. And I came to believe that good and evil are names for what people do, not for what they are."--His Dark Materials
Honestly the best fantasy series I can think of with this criteria is His Dark Materials. The fantasy is not a distraction from the story and emotions itself, any romance in the story is not something that the story needs or necessarily even wants you to give a shit about, and to some extent, I would argue that it’s there at all. It IS a YA book, which is my only stop point here, but I would argue its one of the more complexly written YA books, and has good prose, some nice grey moralities, and there’s no system in it so complicated that you have to sit down and pattern out the rules around it. It’s a world very much like our own, only slightly different.
It also does a really good job with the nature of goodness and gets into some extremely weird and interesting shit about God that I feel a lot of ways about at once. Can’t recommend the series enough on that level. I have read it as an adult and stand by it, and that’s my Big Test.
"The man who passes the sentence should swing the sword. If you would take a man's life, you owe it to him to look into his eyes and hear his final words. And if you cannot bear to do that, then perhaps the man does not deserve to die." --A Song of Ice and Fire
Ahahahah there was a time I would have recommended A Song of Ice and Fire in this, which, to a point, I LOVED, I started reading it as a ...middle schooler? Maybe young high school? When I started falling out of love with fantasy. I still think the first few books are good, but I think Martin’s biggest problem is he simply took too long, and what is the feel of fantasy now, and what most fantasy readers want, is out of his grasp. Though HONESTLY, if someone took a series of mine I hadn’t finished and made me fucking millions, would I keep writing? Or would I be like, “Aw, I’m retired now, I’m good”? I dunno, it’s easy to pretend you have morals when no one’s giving you ten million dollars. But it also didn’t rely SO heavily on magic or anything, it was mostly about political machination.
"where the world ends is where you must begin" --The Gunslinger
I almost forgot that The Gunslinger would actually completely be termed as fantasy. The Gunslinger is a fucking fantastic novel by Stephen King. I avoided reading the entire Dark Tower series for years, because people kept telling me, “Oh it’s nothing like Stephen King” and well I happen to very much like King’s THING, even when it aggravates me, so why would I read something that is nothing like him? Fortunately, what they meant was, “It’s not a horror novel.” I don’t know if I can recommend the entire series even though *I* ended up fucking loving it--I read the whole series in a year and that was with a huge break, but if I said it didn’t have it’s occasionally aggravating moments, I would be lying. But when it’s amazing, it’s so amazing, and the first book is all killer, no filler, and if you just wanted to leave it there, that would be fine. If you DO read the series...read the cliffnotes on Wizard and Glass, it’s boring as shit, and it’s clearly all of King’s backstory notes on Roland while he was trying to get back to writing the series, and like, no hate, but also, it made me stop reading the series for months. Wolves of the Calla, the one that comes after it, is an IMMENSELY fun fantasy-western, which in many ways I guess the series as a whole is? But mostly Wolves of the Calla.
“Time and I have quarrelled. All hours are midnight now. I had a clock and a watch, but I destroyed them both. I could not bear the way they mocked me.”--Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norell
This one is given with caveats--I haven’t read it since I was eighteen, and it might not be as good as I remember it being. I’ll look to reread it next year. But I know at the time I adored it! It has a really fun style to the writing that echoes the style of Dickens and the larger styles of the era, which makes the book an immense amount of fun for people named Doc, who are me. It is an INTENSELY English novel in a number of ways, and how both Strange and Norell can be so strangely (hah) fussy and so competent, and yet inept and caught up in their own petty backbiting drama (especially with each other--the story is, in many ways, about their friendship) just absolutely charmed the shit out of me as a youth. Now I want to reread it ahaha. It’s also, as I recall, a pretty easy read, though long.
"What is the point of having free will if one cannot occasionally spit in the eye of destiny?" --The Dresden Files
Ohhhhhh boy does this come with caveats. This is a popcorn pulp series. It is a popcorn pulp series that at a certain point fails to deliver even on that promise. But for the first, oh, eight or nine novels, GOD did I love the Dresden Files. One of my favorite things was that it made me discover that though fantasy largely does not speak to me, I can quite love what I have come to find out is called ‘Urban Fantasy”. It had me from the moment where it was like, “Our world, but wizards are real, and they also have to go buy milk at the store” and I was like, “Oh fucking sold” because it allowed me to get into magic without all the “She was born of the CLydroffer lineage of witches, which took their power from air. She ran down to the village of Stratford-upon-Badger’s Nose and took to seeing the local Scriddonk” and anyway, avoiding the medieval setting made me enjoy it so much the more. They have a very fun lawful good character, Harry is that kind of smug asshole protagonist that’s JUST this side of enjoyable, and while there’s romance, up to a certain point at which I hope you abandon the sinking ship, you can ignore it. Like I said, they’re not any great literary giant, but they’re immense fun in the way that like, Anita Blake was fun for awhile (for my mother at least) or Anne Rice.*
*I don’t know what this counts as, but Interview With the Vampire is a hell of a book. I can’t really recommend the others. I might, weirdly, have a copy upstairs in paperback? If you want it I’ll send it along, if I do.

OC Headcannons
Masterlist
Darcie, 08/03/2000 ♓️ 🇦🇺
Darcie Jade Nam aka Hyejin Nam shares her Korean name with her senior Hwasa (she was very excited to learn that)
Another Australian this time from the sunshine states Golden Coast, makes sense since she’s such a sunshine
Darcie’s father worked with Ash’s mother in Australia and the girls met during a work meet and just kept in contact- later being introduced to Cassia
Darcie’s father and grandfather taught her how to play piano from a very young age but as she grew up she learnt a couple more… tricks
It’s just been Darcie and her dad (Mike) ever since she was born- her mum just left no trace of herself
But she’s always trying to get her dad to date.
Darcie’s grandparents lived in Jeju- South Korea so while growing up she’d come visit with her dad on his holidays.
She’s independent but very shy, and always tries her best but tends to fall on bad habits like stuttering when she’s nervous or holding onto someone
She’s super playful! And such a sweetheart when she’s comfortable
But oh can she hold her own in a sass off especially after being friends with Cassia and Ash for so long.
Oh the bants are strong in this one just try herrr
Also flexible like what I don’t think her legs are meant to be like that
And total nerd!
Also okay okay she’s actually pretty handy with some tools thank Mr Nam for that.
Okay okay but like secretly a meme (not even a secret but she’s definitely made a few jokes here and there that fans are always like OH NO SHE STALKS US
Oh… oh honey she knows about that fanfic you wrote trust me she’s well aware yeah that one you know what it is with her and Hwanwoong
Just because they are both shorter people doesn’t mean it needs to be mentioned in every sentence- yeah you know who you are.
When she was little she wanted to be a superhero but sadly she never got her superpowers so.
In Oneus she’s in charge of being an absolute sunshine
She fucking loves hanging with all of WeUs the debut show they did was her absolute favourite thing in the world!
WeUs love practicing English with her, they definitely try to out English her before remembering that it’s her first language
Relationship with Oneus
Ravn/ Youngjo // Ravn helped Darcie with her rap and flow, he even helped teach her a bit about writing rap flows. As he’s the eldest in the group she does tend to go to him for guidance. Cough- dad2
Seoho // um did you say back buddies? Oh yes I think you did. While he does backflips she does back bends it’s just a part of their charm. Seoho’s personality tends to bring out Darcie’s banter side. Mum?
Leedo/ Geonhak // oh this sweetheart he couldn’t harm a hair on her head if she’s sad he’s sad. He loves picking her up and giving her piggy back rides and she feels super safe around him it’s so sweet really. She tricked him into eating his veggies once.
Keonhee // the memes these two make just standing beside each other, you think he’s bendy? Have you seen her back bends! Both are extremely positive and love to eat like LOVE to eat
Hwanwoong // fellow main dancer right here! Looking at them both (cough shorties- she’s shorter) people usually don’t expect the powerhouses- also the only members who can do the splits. She often asks him to play guitar for him
Xion/ Dongju // M shape sitter, musician watchers and probably both secretly Disney princesses I won’t lie. Okay okay but as the two youngest in Oneus they tend to gang together to prank the older members even if she is scared of getting in trouble.
Relationship with Onewe
Yonghoon // did you know he’s afraid of dogs this is sad Darcie loves animals way to much man he’d probably never be near her if her kelpie was with her- these two catch each other all the time at weird points in the night at the studios- it’s getting kinda weird 😂
Harin // Darcie finds him way to funny and always offers to help him out with things. Since he’s in charge of repairs and Darcie is actually pretty hands she tends to help out if no one else will. They also cook together.
Kanghyun/ Hyungu // Somedays Darcie will only refer to him as Pingu nothing else. She was also the first person besides Cya to listen to Regulus and it’s most definitely her favourite song (sorry Cya) they like to buy weird trinkets for each other from picks to teddy bears and snow globes to pins it’s fun.
Dongmyeong // Pianist buddies. She likes to tease him by saying Dongju is her favourite twin (she doesn’t have a favourite) She tends to call him baby because he acts like the cutest a lot. He makes fun of her Korean and she makes fun of his English- win win friendship.
Cya/ Giwook // Such a sweet relationship, always hanging off each other or messing around with songwriting- like with Kanghyun he helped her with her own songwriting and honestly god I can’t express how pure their friendship is (anime nerds gotta love them)

Paramay Prompt Three! Para+Childhood
I HAVE BEEN WRITING THIS FOR FOUR MOTHERFUCKING DAYS NOW AND I HAVE NO REGRETS :DDDD
this has not been proofread it is 10 at night, I am exhausted, please accept my humble offerings
Damn, only prompt three and I’m already forced to reveal everyone’s tragic backstory oh well lol
Trigger warnings: Abuse, arson, su•c•de, death, homophobia, murder, gun mention
tw; death mention
Alright alright alright let’s fuckin goooo we’ll start off with Hollister, her childhood is no doubt the easiest to write since it’s basically been the same her whole life.
She never met her parents. She doesn’t know if they’re dead, or if they just decided they didn’t want a kid, or if something else happened, and she doesn‘t care. It’s not her problem. At least, she tells herself that, but she really isn’t 100% sure that it wasn’t somehow her fault. Poor baby.
She‘s completely grown up in the foster care system, bouncing from home to home. Hollister kept running away, getting caught, and being sent somewhere else. She’s also, guess what, a fucking genius with technology.
One time she tried running away and then erasing herself from the system. It didn’t work, but nobody realized that she’s tried to do it, so it’s fine, nothing went wrong.
A few weeks into her newest home, one of the other foster kids named Silas (who she’d been fast friends with) went missing days after developing a weird anti-gravitational power. And so she tried to find him. She stumbled across the Starwritten Society - when I say “stumbled across” I mean she followed a few very questionable leads on, like, conspiracy theory websites and shit and actually found something - and hacked into the archives, trying to find some sort of info.
Now, you can imagine the panic that caused in the Society. Complete lockdown. The Starwritten Society is top-secret, and nobody just hacks into the archives that easily. She didn’t actually find anything, one because she didn’t get time to look around before the security system actually started working and kicked her out, and two because Silas just wasn’t in the records anyway, meaning he’d disappeared some other way.
However, before she could go out looking for him, there were three agents knocking at the door, having tracked her location here. And you can imagine the looks on their faces when they saw that the person who had caused the mass panic that morning was none other than some kid with a computer that looked home-made.
Things happened, she asked to join because, y’know, fuck yeah secret society, paperwork was filed, and she got in. She’s currently the youngest trainee to join the Society in seventy-four years. Also, fun fact, they had to fill out the adoption papers and such, so she’s listed as the child of Director Iara Adams. Which isn’t that big of a deal, since literally every kid in need of adoption taken in by the Society is adopted under her name, and most have only interacted with her like once, but... it’s a cool world building detail I felt like I needed to add.
Anyways, ONWARD!!!
——————————————
tw; homophobia
Kennedy was born in a pretty influential family with very “traditional” values. They kinda suck, so we won’t get too into that shithole.
Each generation of that family has had like six kids, and every single time, one turns out to be lgbtq+ and gets ✨disowned✨because the parents are just kinda assholes. It’s just this never-ending cycle.
Suffice it to say, Kennedy - being a flaming bisexual and all that - got disowned when she was like twelve after one of her siblings outed her by accident. Her uncle took her in. Guess what? He had also been disowned! When he was fifteen!
And he also went on to become a very important person in the Starwritten Society, and when he discovered Kennedy’s complete genius with technology, he recommended her to become a trainee at 17 years old.
To be honest, Kennedy’s basically gotten the short end of the stick when it comes to characterization and fleshing-out. I have quite a few paras like that, sadly. I think I might make her a playlist sometime and let her be the main character for a while.

Fox. Oh boy. Fox grew up in a very... tense household. His father started out pretty okay when he was a younger kid, but he slowly started getting more and more violent and controlling, to both Fox, his twin sister, and his mother.
Fox always had a very close relationship with his sister, Wren. You know that siblings meme? The “You are my sister, you are my brother, we are siblings and we care for each other,”? The were the living definition of that. They managed to keep a definite sense of humor and lightheartedness with each other, despite everything that had been going on.
They weren’t fine, but they had each other.
And then Wren went missing. There was a huge police search, but they didn’t find anything. Fox was fourteen at the time. That experience basically broke him, and he never saw Wren again.
A month later, he was coming home from school, got off the bus, and found the house in smoking ruins. His mother hadn’t been able to take his father’s abuse anymore, and she couldn’t see any way out. So she set the house on fire, killing both herself and her husband.
Fox, who was a mental wreck at this point, as almost anyone would be, was placed into the foster care system. He never stayed anywhere for longer than a week. His humor became a shield for him, an easy way to seem like he was fine when he wasn’t. After about a year, he ran away. And then joined the circus. Why, you ask? Because I said so; I grow these flowers and if you don’t like it then you can leave my garden
Fox was always a flexible kid. He’d been in gymnastics classes since he was five. And, as it would turn out, he was damn good on a trapeze. It wasn’t a very big circus, just some small family-run traveling one, but it gave him a place to stay and an environment that welcomed him, and that was good enough for him.
He was with the circus for about four years, up until he was eighteen, so technically this isn’t his childhood anymore, but I’m gonna keep going because I want to.
The Starwritten Society was following a lead on an underground lab somewhere around the place where Fox’s circus was performing. Kennedy was actually on the mission, although she doesn’t do many of those anymore after she got injured in the field and such and I’ll talk about that later. Anyway.
The team of agents who were on the search came across the circus, and figured it was as good of a place as any to try and find the person they were looking for, Eleanor Sylvidas. She was actually in the crowd watching, and there was a confrontation after the show. Fox went to check it out, being the one generally in charge of telling people to cool it whenever small fights broke out between customers, but he wasn’t quite sure what to do in a situation where both parties happen to have guns pointed at each other. Especially when Eleanor pointed her gun at his head and told the agents that if they didn’t back down, she’d shoot him.
That wasn’t exactly something that happened to him on a day-to-day basis.
Of course, a fight broke out. Actually, Fox made the first move, he literally tried to snatch this woman’s gun out of her hand. It didn’t work, but the shot she took at him definitely missed, and then there was a very chaotic fight scene and Eleanor ended up losing and got arrested. Course, they still had to find the lab so they could get the kids out of there. Fox was very helpful in that aspect, too.
Once the mission had been completed, he was offered a place as a trainee in the Society. Those who were there will say that the offer was accepted immediately, but he was actually a bit reluctant. He made the choice to go, however, and it proved to be one of the best decisions he’s made.
——————————————
tw; abuse, violence, gun mention
Wilson. Where do I start? He has trauma, definitely, although so does practically everyone who works with the Starwritten Society.
See, Wilson is actually one of the people who were rescued from labs as children, but there are two things that sets him apart from others.
1. He wasn’t kidnapped at birth or after he developed abilities. He was literally created in a lab, which has led to a lot of self-doubt due to being raised to believe he wasn’t “natural”.
2. The Society aims to rescue all powered children from labs as soon as possible, and since many of them are kidnapped at a young age, they try to get them out at least before they turn 10. Wilson wasn’t found until he was a bit older than 17.
He wasn’t even given a name while he was in the lab. He was just “Project Firebird”, with abilities including fire and heat manipulation, as well as immunity to those two things, plus flight and enhanced strength, speed, and stamina. Wilson was made for the sole purpose of being a weapon.
The person running the lab? An absolute fucker of a man named Alastor Killigan. Him? I cannot put into words how much I hate him. He just really fucking sucks, and not in a “loveable bastard“ way. I honestly wish I could physically teleport into my daydreams just to set this bitch on fire.
Anyway, he’s running this whole operation. He’s got guards, he’s got other scientists who he may or may not have blackmailed into helping him, he’s got people who work for him. And this isn’t the first time he’s done this. That’s right, Grey isn’t the first time he’s tried to weaponize a kid. He got caught by the Society last time, but escaped, and now he knows that he has to keep moving around constantly.
So the first 17 years of Grey’s life were just constant training and experiments and tests and moving around and being raised to believe that he was a literal monster and wasn’t worth anything if he wasn’t a weapon. Fucked up, right? But, see, the Society had no idea he existed. They found the lab kids through keeping tabs on recent kidnappings and disappearances. Grey wasn’t on any of those lists. The only people aware of Grey’s existence were Alastor and the people working for him.
In fact, the Society only found him by chance. They managed to track Alastor’s location and find him to arrest him, and they found Grey while they were doing that. There was a huge fight, but Alastor lost, and Grey got rescued. Things were looking up.
Because the Society legally adopts all the orphaned kids they take in, Grey needed a name. He also just needed a name in general. The lady filling out the papers told him he could just pick something, and he panicked. He wasn’t used to being allowed to make his own decisions. There was a plaque on the wall with a list of people who’d been top agents in the past, and he just read one of those.
Grey Wilson.
So, y’know, that‘s why it says he was a top agent in 1937. Just a heads up.
Have I talked about the Society’s different departments yet? No? Maybe I’ll do that later, but anyway - one of the divisions is basically therapy, because some of these kiddos have severe trauma and need help. Grey worked with a woman named Mags for a few years, and then started training for the High-Risk Rescue department. He was taking charge of his own future! Yayyyy!
Oh yeah and then Alastor escaped - again, and Mags went missing on the same day and it was presumed Alastor killed her on his way out, and Grey hasn’t seen either of them since. He’s been working in the Society for about 22 years now, trying to make sure that nobody goes through what he has. He decided early on that he didn’t want to use his abilities again, ever, and it’s become his personal secret, with very few people knowing.

Submission time #6
Primary Mess
Hi, I’m having trouble figuring out my primary. Could you please help? Secondary wise, I’m a Lion with a Bird model. My family culture is definitely Snake, which probably has influenced my morals. My mother especially is a VERY loud Snake primary.
Paint: Good to know!
Just a reminder to everyone about how the submission format around here works, the original submission will be indented and my comments/responses will be in blue, like this.
Because this one is structured around the quiz, I'm also going to be coloring the quiz questions in pink, just so they're easier to pick out.
I doubt Badger because I'm not really attached to my community. I was at one point, but I doubt some of their beliefs so I've drawn away. Snake I've been evaluating all my relationships and there's no one I trust that much or who I'm that close to. I don't think it bothers me as much as a snake either. Lion just feels like too much. I'm not that righteous. Bird, I don't think I'm that adaptable. Also I doubt I have a system, Idk tho.
Okay, so you're probably an Idealist! You disconnected from your community because of beliefs/ideals, which is a very Idealist thing to do (although it's less firm if the beliefs that pushed you away were extreme--Loyalists will definitely draw a line if their people start hurting others). Importantly, you don't sound very upset about it, which is also very Idealist.
Remember that Lions don't have to be confident or righteous. Burned Lions in particular distrust their own judgment.
Remember that not all Birds are flexible. Some cling hard to their systems, unwilling to change or adjust even small beliefs. Others have a core to their system that they're very firm about, and everything else is adaptable (I'm one of those). Others are willing to change basically anything given enough time and evidence. Systems aren't flexible by definition.
We can Fall/Burn if an integral/core part of our system collapses, or if we lose our confidence in being able to perceive reality accurately enough and make decisions about it. Fallen Birds aren't what you'd describe as flexible, either.
Sorry in advance for this being so long....
Ambivalent answers: (had trouble with)
If people in your family or community disagree with you, is it hard to act against their wishes?
I don’t care about whether or not my community disagrees with me. I would probably feel judged to some degree, but honestly that makes me feel even more stubborn in my decision. I barely know most of the people in my community, they’re only acquaintances. If I cared about what they thought, I would go crazy.
My family is a different matter. I would listen to them and take their opinions into account, but in the end I need to think my decision is right. I’m the one who has to live with it, so I should agree with it too. Sometimes I’ll bend because I may not care too much about the outcome or I can have the outcome fit what I want by listening to others' advice. I have avoided conflict in the past with family members by just shutting up, but most of the time I have a very vocal opinion. (That may relate to my secondary tho.)
I think out of all the answers, I agree with, “Yes, because I have to live with and around them and they can make my life more difficult with their disapproval.” “It might be hard, but I’ve got to do what I think is right.” and “I don’t care about what the larger community says, but if people really close to me are against something, then I’m less likely to go through with it.” It honestly depends on what the situation is.
This seems like more evidence that you're an Idealist primary. Leaning towards Lion so far.
Would you lie to an acquaintance to save their peace of mind?
The key word in this question is acquaintance. I wouldn’t really feel guilty telling a stranger the straight up truth. Lying just makes your life more complicated. It easier to tell people the truth and no one deserves to be lied to. I think that ties into my Lion secondary. I tend to simply tell the truth at most given opportunities. It's just easier. I will hide the truth though. Lying makes me feel icky but simply choosing not to tell someone something doesn't feel quite as wrong. Sometimes I feel guilty about telling the truth about personal things because, “oh no, now this person has power over me and I don’t know if they’re trustworthy.” However, that doesn’t happen too often anymore. I just don't tell anyone when I'm in pain. It's none of their business and why should they care anyway? They have better things to do.
I am usually more careful with my friends though. I still will tell the truth most of the time. It's too hard to keep up a lie and it makes me feel bad. I think the exception to the no lying thing would be if I think the person will attack me for telling the truth. I don't need that kind of emotional abuse.
So basically I chose, “I would if lying made my life easier and it wouldn’t make me feel bad at all.” I didn't think I wouldn’t lie is precise enough. I wasn’t sure exactly what they meant by acquaintance. Like how well do you know this person? Also can I trust them not to lash out at me for telling them the truth?
Since you said lying makes you feel icky, I don't think that's the answer you want to go for--"I wouldn't lie" seems closer to what you mean.
When you’re making a decision and you’re stuck, what should you do?
Honestly, this question makes me feel weird. I need to find what makes sense, but I also have to be able to agree with my decision feelings wise. I will listen to advice from other people and try to learn at least a little about the topic before making a decision. I would probably also freeze up, especially if it’s a sudden decision or there are too many options to choose from.
I chose the, “I need to take a breath…”
This still has me leaning towards Lion for you.
Does disagreeing with your closest friends about something important to you make you love them less?
No, they’re my friends because of who they are, not what they believe. (which I realize is basically almost the same thing, but idk how else to explain) As long as they don’t believe something horrible that involves hurting people our friendship won’t be affected. Your political views or opinions about certain things aren't going to affect our friendship. I may respect them less but it wouldn’t be over something minor or because of one situation. I don’t think I would have been their friend or even liked them very much if they were “bad” people. It takes time for me to really establish someone as one of my closest friends so by then I know them pretty well so something like this is less likely to happen.
Huh, interesting! You might have some Snake to your Sorting.
Which of these statements is more true for you?
I think I would choose to stand by the people I love. There are always exceptions though. If it was about standing with them for a cause, it depends on the cause. If they’re standing for something wrong, like against basic human rights, I don’t think I could support them. I have to be able to stomach it. I trust that my people wouldn’t do something like that though. If it was against a person, I’m afraid I would be biased towards my people. Once I commit I'll stick by them. You can’t just abandon people you love, what’s the point of loving them if you don’t support them?
If you're a Lion, I think you have a Snake model--or you have Snake ideals coded as "good" in your intuition. This seems like a strong possible Sorting for you.
You might yet be a Snake with a Lion model, though.
Vehement answers: (strongly agree)
What’s your top priority?
Automatically my mind went to a specific goal of mine. I felt guilty immediately because shouldn’t it be family? Making the world a better place didn’t even come close. I ended up choosing my goals and feeling incredibly guilty about it. It just seems selfish to say that, but I wanted to be as honest as possible.
Remember, primaries are aspirational, and your knee-jerk reaction isn't necessarily your truest one/what you really think. (The fact that you think it *is* kind of supports the Lion theory, lol.) It's just surface thoughts, or what you've been conditioned to think.
It'd help the quiz if you picked an answer you don't feel guilty for prioritizing. You should feel right in choosing your answers, even if you don't always live up to them.
Would you feel worse abandoning a stranger in need or turning our back on your closest friend?
This one was easy, my closest friend. If it was a stranger who really really needed me I would feel guilty, but I would feel worse abandoning someone I’ve loved for years.
Again, this is either Snake or Lion with a lot of Snakey loyalty baked in.
Loving people is a lot of trouble.
Agreed. Worth it? Idk.
xD
What if everyone you loved left you? They betrayed you, abandoned you, or died, and you’re hurting. What keeps you moving forward?
This one was easy. I don’t think I would survive that. I lost a friend in the past and was just really upset and angry about being abandoned for a long time. I would just harden up and stop letting people in. I would basically just work. Set goals and throw myself into accomplishing them like a machine.
Huh, I don't really know what to say about this Sorting wise. That sounds rough though, I'm sorry you had to go through that :c
What if you realized that absolutely everything you thought true was wrong? The authorities you’d trusted, the beliefs you’d held, the wrongs you’d fought against?
I chose, “I’d have to go sit by myself in a corner….” That trust being broken would be shattering. I don’t have too much faith in authorities, probably because they’re not close to me. Yes, they affect my lives but I have no personal attachments to them. However, having conflicting beliefs is one of the things that really hurts. You don’t know which belief is right, and what if the one you decide is right is really wrong? If all my beliefs were actually proved wrong I’m not sure I would know what to do with myself.
Not to read too much into this, but the word "trust" here is interesting! What is it you're trusting? You say yourself that it's not trust in authority. Other people are important to you, but it seems like you don't lean on them too heavily for your own morality. It seems like you're talking about trust in yourself, and that's the core of a Lion's primary.
You can’t help everyone in the world who needs it, but you wish you could.
I help people when I can and when I see someone who needs me and I choose to walk away I feel guilty. I don't worry about it enough to choose the "It makes me feel like a bad person sometimes," answer.
Fair enough! This doesn't contradict any previous information, so let's keep moving.
Do you listen to your intuition?
This one was fairly simple? Umm it depends, when I have nothing else to go on, yes. Sometimes it's wrong and sometimes it's right. I can trust it with moral decisions most of the time or about certain people. If I get weird vibes, I’ll usually be more wary. Thinking about it now, I’m realizing that I do tend to avoid things that make me feel wrong, and the decisions I’m most assured in usually feel right. I do like to validate my feeling when I can though. I don't value being overly emotional or acting on pure emotion because it can cloud your judgment. I try to validate my feelings with proof before jumping in to things.
Yep, that's a Lion response! Lions can be cautious and want to back up their intuition with evidence, or give decisions time and consideration, but overall they're going to be most confident and stable-feeling when they follow their intuition.
Someone points out a flaw in your logic. Their argument makes sense, but there’s something about it that just bothers you. Do you change your ways because of what they said?
Not right away, no. I would have to go think about it, but it’s pretty unlikely that I’ll change my mind, especially if it's about a moral viewpoint. When it comes to a moral viewpoint, I have usually had an internal debate with myself already. What do I feel is right about this and what is wrong? Unless it really really bothers me and what they pointed out makes me feel like a bad person, I won't change my mind completely. I very firmly believe there is no one yes or no answer to important moral questions. It depends on the circumstances.
That feels very Lion to me, especially the "unless the dilemma makes me feel like a bad person" bit. You have Snakey values, but the source of your moral decision making seems to mostly come from your internal compass.
I’ve taken the quiz multiple times, and read all the primary posts and the ones I've stuck with longest are Snake and Lion. I have thought I was a Bird or a Badger too though.
Please feel free to ignore this if I'm being annoying.
I can see why you landed with the Internal primaries, yeah--and I'm with you, I think you're almost certainly one of those two and you model the other.
I do think you're a Lion who's modeling Snake, though. Your intuition says that Snake ideals are good and worthy, that it's right to be loyal to those you care for--but it sounds to me like you're thinking and talking about it in a very Idealist flavored way.
It's ultimately up to you to decide, but I hope this helps!

Hogwarts House: Ravenclaw
Wand: Acacia Wood, Thestral Tail Hair Core, 11”, Supple Flexibility
Age wise he’s only 5 years older than Rebekah but because of her late birthday he’s six years ahead of her in school
Actually had a rather light, playful sense of humor
Very sociable while in school and many people liked him
Very inquisitive and bright and his happiness and adoration for fascinating subjects was downright contagious
Very athletic and wanted to try out for the Quidditch team and enjoyed muggle sports like soccer and volleyball
Extremely gifted in Charms and DADA
Quite artistic and could play the piano (taught by his mother) and ukulele and was talented at drawing and painting
Taught to speak Bulgarian by his father and French by his mother
Fascinated by muggle history
Had the biggest sweet tooth imaginable, especially when he was nervous
Had a bit of a mad scientist vibe going for him but in the absolute most endearing way possible somehow
Loved to learn and try new experiences
Never ever without a novel or his sketchbook on hand
His dad got him really into photography
He really appreciated having Duncan and Olivia around, they were his best friends
And now they’re both gone and he can’t help but blame himself
Who else is there to blame?
Tries not to think about it though
Honestly he’s the biggest dork
Is completely enthralled by nearly everything, he’s just learned to tone it down a bit so people don’t notice
Definitely stays up for hours with existential thoughts and queries running through his head like a mantra
Like, really, why are daffodils yellow?
Truly loves learning for the sake of learning, knowledge for the sake of knowledge, wonder is his middle name
Not really but he likes to wish
Logic and reason are just as fascinating to him as things like creativity, imagination, abstract thoughts
Like why are they? How are they?
He needs to know
Everything’s a mystery and he wouldn’t have it any other way
Duncan couldn’t understand it but he tried to pretend he did
And Olivia would love teasing him for it, but truthfully she was much the same way
Also, show him literally any animal and he’s sold, he’ll love it forever
Carried around tons of snacks in case he saw any wandering around the castle
Always
Really good at playing a part, a bit of a social chameleon, he was whoever he needed to be depending on the person he was with
Which is why no one really understood him
It made him really lonely sometimes
Was always plagued by his need to impress his parents
Weighed down by his fears of never being good enough
Got too good at lying
Didn’t mean for things to go this far
Father: Henry Delyan Roberts
Born: July 2nd, 1948
Sign: Cancer
Blood Status: Muggle
Occupation: Veterinarian but considered being a Pediatrician
When he was 13 his mother moved back to Australia for her job and he was put under the custody of his father during the year and would visit her during the summer
Missed her a lot after she moved and for a while thought it was his fault
He wondered if she moved because she needed to get away from him
He’d heard stories about her initial reaction to becoming a parent and wondered if maybe she never really got over it
Thought maybe if he was better she would have stayed
She wouldn’t have wanted to leave
It’s been a while since those thoughts crossed his mind though and he’s glad that didn’t seem to be the case
Ethnically half Bulgarian on his mother’s side and could speak it fluently and even visited his uncles and cousins there occasionally growing up
Didn’t get to seem them as often as he liked though
Being an only child could get rather lonely and though he loved his dad, he wanted someone to bond with over school or friends or literally anything else
Even so, he really appreciated having his father around
Even before his mother moved away he spent most of his time with his dad and was always a little closer with him than his mom
He supposes his dad was his best friend for a while growing up
Promised himself to be half the man he was when he had a child of his own
Very humble and patient, the kind of person you find yourself itching to be around
Always smiling and laughing, but his laugh was feather light and soft
Had an amazing singing voice
His laugh literally sounds like hummingbirds and wind chimes
Really honest and kind and loved helping people
Did a lot of volunteering as a kid, loved helping people and wouldn’t hurt a fly
Unless you hurt someone he cared about in which case you were utterly screwed
Definitely capable of delivering ass beatings but tried to avoid it as much as possible, even when people deserved it
Great listener, the one where you could be telling a story, look over and be taken completely aback by how intently he was still listening, like he was genuinely interested
Loved playing soccer
Says he loves all animals the same but he’s secretly the biggest dog person
Which is weird because he has a cat he would cut someone for but shhh
It’s a secret
Absolutely loved photography, had two polaroids, a long one and a wide one, baby blue and pastel yellow respectively
Took a lot of pictures of/with Delphine when they were traveling together
Made a scrapbook out of it
Also proceeded to take pictures of his children when he had them
Made a scrapbook out of that too
A simple man, mostly, but he craved adventure and really just wanted to make a difference in the world
Didn’t know what he wanted to do with his life after graduating high school, so he decided to take a year off to travel and find himself
Met Delphine before he even left England
Married her a year later at 19
Jacob was born about a month before he turned 21
Closed completely into himself when his son disappeared
Doesn’t really know what to do with himself now
Mother: Delphine Cécile Roberts (née Leon)
Born: January 19th, 1949
Sign: Capricorn
Hogwarts House: Slytherin
Wand: Cherry Wood, Werewolf Hair Core, 12”, Rigid Flexibility
Blood Status: Pure-Blood
Occupation: Retired Auror after Jacob was born and became an Employee of the Department of Mysteries at the Ministry of Magic
Born into a very pure-blood supremacist family, consisting almost exclusively of Slytherins
Youngest of two daughters
Very close with her sister (Adelaide) growing up, they were nearly inseparable and opposites in almost every way
But her parents found her very problematic
Half French on her mother’s side and could speak the language fluently, often visited family there
Though she kept up the dutiful daughter act around her parents, she couldn’t relate to them at all and never understood why they treated everyone so cruelly
Her sister was her refuge
She felt suffocated in her own house and therefore felt freed whenever returning to Hogwarts
Though kind and respectful, Delphine was very prone to her own brand of subtle mischief when attending school
Having no freedom at her own house, she felt truly free and unrestrained at Hogwarts
Even so, she often spent most of her time alone
At school a lot of non-Slytherin or non-Pure-blooded students were afraid to speak to her but she tried to make it a point to let them know she didn’t subscribe to the same morals or ideals of her parents
Her mother and father knew this and it infuriated them
Unfortunately, most people just couldn’t seem to distinguish between the parent and the child
Once again she had only her sister, but was thankful for her presence nonetheless
It hurt though sometimes when people would cast her aside, thinking there’s nothing inside her worth saving simply because her parents are who they are
Confided this in Adelaide, but the other girl didn’t seem to share the sentiment
Was a 5th and 6th Year prefect and followed in her sister’s footsteps and became Head Girl in her 7th year
Surprised most everyone but they never cared to take the time to look past her heritage and see all her grades and extracurriculars aside from Quidditch
Girl just wanted a friend
Played on the Quidditch team as Slytherin’s star keeper
Was supposed to be married off in an arranged marriage to a Pure-blood she’d never met after graduating but barely managed to convince her sister to lie for her so she could at least take a year to see the world for herself first
Tried to disguise as a muggle so she could slip out of the country unnoticed by her parents and met Henry at the airport on his way to Italy
Spent the year traveling together before getting married
Was then disowned by her parents (and her sister for another year)
Completely fell apart after Jacob disappeared

heroine addict | yang jeongin
genre: journalism student!jeongin x heroine!reader | superhero au ; college au summary: yang jeongin is failing his journalism classes and needs an article of the century to bring his grade up. when the city’s heroine saves his life, he thinks a biography about you is just the topic to save him from failing. when you don’t agree to an interview, jeongin ends up risking his life daily just so he can see you. one of these days you’ll say yes to him (you do). wc: 8k a/n: happy super belated jeongin day!! i love you ; ~ ; enjoy!
It’s midday as you’re sitting on top of the city’s tallest building with your legs dangling over the edge, bored out of your mind. The view from above isn’t as beautiful compared to the night since the sun is so blinding - mostly because you can’t see anything, period. Why your boss insisted on you taking a day shift, you’ll never know why. Nothing cool ever happens during the day anyways, so what was the point?
“Since your class got cancelled, I figured you’d want something to do,” Woojin explained through your earpiece. “Don’t you like getting paid?”
“But I’m so bored ~” you whined for the hundredth time. “You don’t have any leads? A drug bust? A planned robbery? Anything???”
“Not at this time. Just watch for some dumb kid who isn’t paying attention while crossing the street. There’s plenty of those, especially around the college campuses.”
“You know from personal experience?” you teased.
“Don’t make me disable your suit.”
You ignored Woojin’s threats and followed his orders, continuing to watch over the boring city. It was fun to tease him all the time, but you always obeyed his orders whenever he gave them because he always knew what was best. Whether he told you to go ahead and attack with full force or to hold back and be cautious, you never questioned his orders. You’re not sure what it is about Woojin, but you trusted that man with your whole life, for God only knows why.
You remember the exact day and time when he approached you for his little project. It was a Monday, of all days, at 7:15 PM where you two shared barbecue over a hot grill and a whole pitcher of beer. You’ve known that studious man for a long time and you never took him for someone who would drink on a Monday but when he said it was his treat, who were you to complain and be suspicious?
But that was his plan all along - to treat you out for good food, get you a little tipsy and bam! He pitched you his project at your peak giggliness when your face was all pink and warm.
“Did you say you wanted me to try out your supersuit?” you snorted.
“Yup.”
“A supersuit like for superheroes?”
“That’s right.”
“You’re kidding, right?”
“I am one hundred percent serious.”
“You know I’m like, athletically challenged.”
“That’s exactly why I think you’d be the perfect test subject! I know exactly how fast you can run, how much you can lift, how flexible you are - all of it will be maxed out with this suit.”
“Wha - have you been watching me!?”
“Don’t be mad, but I kind of stole your physical records from high school,” Woojin snickered.
“What the hell, dude!”
“You’re surprisingly good at stretching, if you ask me.”
“You’re so weird…”
“So you’ll do it or what?” he begged, giving you his cute little pout and puppy eyes he knew you could never resist.
“... Fine, you weirdo Edna Mode impersonator.”
“Jokes on you, I take that as the highest form of a compliment.”
From then on, you agreed to whatever testing would follow. You’ve tried and tested nearly a dozen suits since your partnership, but none were perfect enough for the perfectionist engineer Woojin. The latest model - the one that you were currently wearing - is the closest he thinks he can get to said perfection, at least for now. Rumor has it that he’s already got another suit in the making for you.
Even through the uncomfortably intimate suit fittings, rigorous physical conditioning, and the life threatening crimes you saved the city from, you honestly wouldn’t trade this for anything else. You’ve tasted the rush, tasted the fame, and now you’re addicted and there was no going back.
For the next couple of hours until your next class, you stayed on top of the tallest building in the city overlooking the people and talking to Woojin about his day.
It was late afternoon when Jeongin left his class with a solemn look on his incredibly pale face. In his hands, he held his quarterly assignment that had a huge fat F in red at the top of the page. After talking with his professor, they said there was still a chance for him to bring up his grade with the other three assignments still left, but how the hell was he supposed to do that when he genuinely thought his article about the local pet shelter was good!?
Maybe this major isn’t for me, he thought negatively. Maybe I should just switch… But to what? Everything else is so boring.
Jeongin was in his own little world as he walked from the campus to the hustle and bustle of the city. He wasn’t really paying attention to his surroundings as he mapped out his future with different majors he thought about switching to. With wide eyes and a dazed look on his face, he walked through crowds and crossed streets mindlessly - so mindlessly that people moved out of the way for him so as to not bump into him.
At one of the busiest intersections in the city, Jeongin crossed the street on a red light. The taxi horn honking at him seemed to fade in and by the time he realized what was happening, it was too late for him to react.
This is it. He patiently waited for the taxi to hit, but it never came.
Loud gasps and camera clicks were what brought a dazy Jeongin back to reality. Everything was loud as it should be and that’s when he knew he was no longer daydreaming and that the taxi missed him.
Or rather the taxi didn’t get the chance to hit him.
There you were with both hands on the taxi and deep dents beneath them, indicating your method of stopping the taxi from hitting the poor boy. Jeongin stared at you with wide eyes, mentally pinching himself so he knew he wasn’t dreaming. He couldn’t believe it! You, the city’s fallen angel who graced them with your powers to protect the people, were right in front of him! You’re the city’s local celebrity - you’re all the news reporters ever talk about -
News… Oh shit, he was going to be on the news! Well, this was his ultimate career goal, wasn't it? Plus it’ll look good on his resume... But wait, if he gets a picture, maybe he could use you for his next assignment and -
“Are you alright?” you asked carefully, waving a hand in front of the boy’s shocked face. He hadn’t moved since you stopped the taxi and you were beginning to worry that he was frozen from fear.
The boy cleared his throat and nodded his head vigorously. Your eyes were so big and bright beneath your mask, staring so intensely at him, that he had a hard time looking at you. How cute, you made him nervous!
“Y-Yes, I’m good! Great, actually!” he stuttered.
“That’s good,” you giggled. Your laugh was sweet like sugar to everyone’s ears and onlookers wondered how Jeongin was able to compose himself when you were so close to him. Truth be told, he forgot how to breathe, so that helped. “You should be more careful, especially during the rush hour.”
Way to look like an idiot. Jeongin cleared his throat. “Of course! I’m sorry for the trouble.”
“No trouble at all. I’m just happy you’re safe.”
The cute boy burned a dark red from your smile for everyone to see. Before he could ask for a picture, you jumped high up in the air and in the blink of an eye, you were gone as fast as you arrived. As the crowd dispersed with their eyes glued to their phones, it seemed that everyone got a picture or a video of you except him! So not only did Jeongin completely make a fool of himself in front of you and the entire city for not reading the street lights, he was a fool who lost the opportunity for the best student article in his university’s history!
But that’s ok because he’ll catch you next time. He’ll make sure of it. Even if it means walking in front of a taxi again.
“You’re such a flirt,” Woojin teased through the bluetooth.
“I am not!” you pouted, hopping from building to building away from the scene.
“Please, ‘no trouble at all, I’m just happy you’re safe ~’ Who says that?”
“Superheroes, Woojin… Superheroes say that.”
“Yeah, but not like THAT.”
“Whatever! He’s cute!”
“I knew it.”
You spent the rest of the day thinking about how cute his blushing face was.
The deadline for the next assignment was approaching quickly and to his bad luck, Jeongin hadn’t seen you since you saved him from the taxi. Until he’d meet you again, he took this time to research everything and anything about you, but sadly, there wasn’t much for him to work with. All he could come up with was your guestimated age, your height, and who you work for. He thought he’d be able to dig deeper when he found out you were associated with KimTech, but there was nothing.
But this was good! Really good! This meant that if he could interview you, then he’d be the first to know all about you. He’d be the very first reporter to get the scoop on the city’s one and only heroine. But this wasn’t going to be easy - from the handful of interviews he’s watched, it didn’t look like you liked people knowing things about you. You kept your interviews short and sweet - practically one-liners. You were a complete mystery, and that only attracted Jeongin more to you. He would have to find a way to work around this.
That is if he ever met you again.
The same time everyday after that same journalism class, he went to the same intersection and took a step on the crosswalk at the red light. He thought that maybe recreating the scene would bring you out of the shadows again, but it didn’t work. Maybe he wasn’t in danger enough? But was Jeongin really about to risk his life just for a school assignment?
Hell yeah, he was.
Day-by-day, Jeongin tried risking his life a little more at a time. From taking steps at a red light, to standing too close to the edge of the train stations, to even standing on the rooftops on campus buildings, he tried his all to get your attention but for some reason it wasn’t working. Didn’t you have like, a radar or something? Or like some KimTech device that let you know when people were in danger? Jeongin was fake trying to die here and it was like you were ignoring him!
He had to go bigger.
There was a hotel smack in the center of the city. It was the tallest, most glamorous boutique hotel where only celebrities and international business people stayed. It was a privilege in itself to step foot on the marble tiles and Jeongin knew all too well how that felt. He wasn’t a stranger to the hotel and especially not the rooftop. No one ever questioned him whenever he walked in because they all assumed he was a busboy for the banquet hall and he never corrected anyone for situations just like this. So using his privilege, Jeongin took the elevator straight to the empty rooftop. Usually, the roof would be closed for private events, but tonight was the only night this week when it wasn’t booked. Lucky him, huh?
The view up there was absolutely stunning. He couldn’t really see the stars, but the lights from the city twinkled just as beautifully. And most of all, it was quiet. Quiet and peaceful. Maybe he should come up here more often when he wasn’t trying to attract the city’s heroine.
Jeongin hopped up on the ledge that was made to protect tipsy celebrities from falling to their death. The tips of his sneakers peaked over the corner and never before had he felt so alive! For a moment, distracted by the warm glow of the city lights, he forgot the whole reason why he was up here. He closed his eyes and breathed in the cool air. If only he could fly.
A hand grabbed onto his and yanked him backwards, causing him to fall hard on his ass on the concrete rooftop.
“Ow! What the -!!”
“Are you crazy!?”
Hovering over his cowering form was just the girl he was looking for. He was surprised how upset you seemed, with your eyes so big and your brows furrowed. What were you so upset about? Didn’t you go through stuff like this everyday?
“Hello,” Jeongin greeted sheepishly. “Can I help you?”
“I know you,” you said, pointing an accusing finger. When you recognized him, your face softened and Jeongin could breathe a sigh of relief. “You’re the cute boy who almost got ran over by a taxi.”
“You remember me, huh?” he blushed. “Wait, cute?”
“What do you think you’re doing up here?” You asked, ignoring his question.
“Getting some fresh air…?”
“While standing on the ledge!?”
“I live life on the ledge. Get it? Life on the ledge?” When you didn’t look the slightest amused, Jeongin cleared his throat, stood up, and dusted himself off. “I’m sorry.”
“You’re not very smart, are you?”
“Sometimes I can be.”
“Will you pretend to be smart and stay off the ledge then? I’d like a peaceful, bloodless night, thank you.” As you were saying this, you were already drifting away from him.
Wait, he still had to interview you! “If I say I won’t, will you stay?”
You raised a curious brow. Was this his way of asking you to stay? “And then what, I’ll babysit you?”
“I prefer the term ‘supervise’.”
“Hm, babysitting or saving the city?” you sang, weighing your options. The right answer was obvious, but the wrong answer was quite tempting if you were being honest. This boy may have some adrenaline high or he was just really stupid, but that’s what made him interesting. You can’t remember the last time someone popped up on the radar this often, either. It was almost like he was trying to get your attention, but why?
“The city can hold off their addiction to their heroine for a little while, right?”
His dimpled grin was almost too cute to resist. Almost. “Maybe some other time. Gotta save the city from people like you, y’know?”
“Wait -!”
You disappeared again, but that wouldn’t stop Jeongin this time. This time he was going to follow you. How, you ask? Social media was his powerful weapon.
Jeongin ran between alleys, hopped on different trains, hell he even ordered a taxi just so he could keep up with you. He got closer and closer each time trying to catch you (thanks to an accurate update Twitter account), but every time he arrived to the scene of the crime, you were already gone. The people who witnessed your act of vigilance were kind enough to point him in the direction you flew off to, but even with that help, he could barely keep up. After nearly three hours of running around the city and harboring the defeat, he decided that he’d just risk his life for you some other time.
Whether you were hiding in the shadows or up on rooftops, you watched the cute boy run to all of your locations. So he was following you. He was determined and you’re still unsure why, but the effort didn’t go unnoticed. If he tried to catch your attention again, then maybe you’ll entertain him a little bit.
“Poor kid,” Woojin snickered in your ear. “Why are you making it so hard for him?”
“I don’t know what he wants from me. He could be trying to trick me for all we know.”
“He looks harmless ~”
“Maybe he’s just a good actor.”
“Wouldn’t count on that.”
“You’re suggesting I should see what he wants?”
“Why not? I’m bored with all these misdemeanors. The taxi thing was the most exciting thing you’ve done in a long time thanks to him. Besides, you could use some friends.”
“I have friends!”
“New friends.”
“Just say you’re bored of me, it’ll hurt less,” you muttered. “Fine, I’ll see what he wants, but only if he shows up on the radar again.”
“I’ll keep you posted.”
Jeongin showed up on your radar every single day this week. Sometimes only once a day, often times twice, and way more frequently when the weekend came around.
The first time was the day after you caught him on the hotel rooftop. That day, you found yourself back to the scene of the crime.
“Again with the ledge, huh?” you scolded while hovering over him. “Too lazy to pick some other building?”
Yesterday you caught him when the skies were as black as the parts on your suit. Today the sun was shining brightly and this was the first time Jeongin got a really good look at you. Your suit was primarily black and white with accents and stitching in what he assumed was your favorite color. Your mask was black too, but they shaped your eyes and made them pop in the prettiest way. Your hair was everywhere like it had no sense of gravity, but somehow it stayed untangled.
You were beautiful. Quite possibly the most beautiful heroine he’d ever seen, but definitely the most beautiful heroine he risked his life for to corner for an interview for a project so he wouldn’t flunk out of college.
“If it’s not broken, don’t fix it, right?” he replied while rubbing his butt. “Can you please be more gentle next time? I bruise like a banana.”
“Next time? There’s a next time?”
“If you say no, there will be.”
“No to what?”
“A one-on-one interview with me.”
You moved far away from Jeongin and he was afraid you were going to fly away again, but you stayed hovering past the edge so that he couldn’t reach you. He couldn’t read your face but if he had to guess, you weren’t too thrilled about the idea.
“Is this what the tabloid companies have you reporters doing these days? Risking your lives just for one interview? Ha!” you scoffed harshly. “You guys are really a pain in the ass.”
“No, you don’t understand -”
“Oh, I understand. You know, it’s wonder how I’m able to keep my identity hidden without you rats all up in my business everyday! You’re everywhere and every single one of you is so distracting that I almost miss my targets! You’re the real crime of the city I could never get rid of. Put that in your article.”
“Wait - !!”
But you were gone again, with your cheeks so red from anger being the only thing Jeongin could think about that day.
Way to go, idiot, now she’ll never say yes to you.
The next day, Jeongin tried again, but chose a different rooftop so you wouldn’t be suspicious. He hoped your high tech radar detection thingy didn’t show his face otherwise this plan wouldn’t work anymore. Jeongin patiently sat on the edge, waiting and hoping to see you fly to him somewhere off in the distance. To his luck, he guessed your radar majig didn’t have facial recognition by the way your face twisted in disgust upon seeing him.
“You’re only further proving my point,” you said. With your abnormally strong pointer finger, you pushed the boy off from the edge. Jeongin didn’t think you’d actually be more gentle trying to get him down this time.
He didn’t even get a word out before you flew away again.
Ok, now he was tired of your stubborn childishness. You wouldn’t even allow him to explain that he wasn’t working for the tabloids! He was a simple-minded college student who only wanted to pass this class. In reality, he probably still could if he chose another subject, but the Yangs were not quitters! Jeongin would see this through and no matter how long or what it took, he would get you to listen to his explanation and get his one-on-one interview with you.
The following three days was a battle between you and the cute boy who wouldn’t leave you alone. You flew across the city to different corners only to end up in front of him yet again. It was your own personal tour of the city. You’ll admit this game of cat and mouse was a little fun, but you had to remember what his intentions were. You couldn’t escape him. The boy was like the plague.
“Don’t you have caller ID on that thing?” you asked Woojin at your latest encounter, referring to his radar thinga-ma-bob. Jeongin waited patiently as you spoke like he wasn’t right in front of you.
“It often only reports where there’s suspicious activity, not who’s causing it.”
“Well, fix it.”
“Can you hear me out finally?” the boy interrupted. To Jeongin’s surprise, you stayed to listen to what he had to say, though he saw you hesitate. “Look, I don’t work for the tabloids.”
“Pfft.”
“No, really!”
“Then what do you need an interview for!?”
“I’m a journalism student.”
“Oh, I see now. You’re not working for the tabloids yet is what you’re saying. This is like a little teaser?”
“People who work for the tabloids are people who don’t have lives and prey upon those who do because theirs are so dull and idiotic!” he spat. God, did Jeongin hate being associated with such vermon! He saw your surprised expression at his sudden outburst. That was a good sign, right? “I’m trying to write a real article about you. So please, let me write about you, earnestly and honestly, before anyone can taint your name.”
“Just so we’re clear, you wouldn’t really be saving my name if it’s just for a school assignment.”
“Well no, but that should convince you even more, right?” he grinned cheekily while batting his eyelashes at you.
His grin didn’t falter even after you were done contemplating the idea for five whole minutes. The huge, overly-exaggerated sigh that left your lips let Jeongin know you were totally down for an interview. Finally, he got you to crack! But it wasn’t fair, he used his cuteness to his advantage.
“Do you have any past works I could look at?” you asked, feet landing on the rooftop.
“H-Huh?” he stuttered.
“Any past articles you’ve written? Or a portfolio maybe? I’d like to know how you’d be writing about me, of course.”
“Ah, I have one, but not on me, so we’ll just skip that -”
“What was it about?”
“Um… An animal shelter.”
“Oh, cute.”
“Buuuut I got an F on it.”
“Oh, no,” you groaned, pinching the skin between your eyes in frustration.
“But that was my first one! That was like a trial assignment, you know, like it doesn’t count.”
“Ugh!!!” you screamed into the clouds. That wasn’t the worst reaction to his failure Jeongin had in mind. “You’re totally going to ruin me!”
“No I won’t, I promise! I wasn’t passionate about that topic like I am with this one!”
“Are you saying you’re passionate about me?” you teased.
“I… Well, no, but… That’s not fair, you worded that funny.”
“I can’t believe I’m going to say this but… fine.”
“Wait, so you’ll let me do my assignment on you? You’ll really let me interview you?” You nodded shamefully. “Sweet! You won’t be disappointed!”
“Don’t fuck it up.”
“We can start tomorrow! Say, after my class on the original rooftop?”
For the first time in a week, Jeongin saw you smile the slightest bit. He liked you better this way. “Works for me.”
“Then it’s a date.”
Before you could correct his wording, it was his turn to leave without letting you get a word out. Now you were the one stuck in your spot while Jeongin was the one being smug over how he made you blush.
“Unbelievable…” you muttered.
Jeongin spent the whole night writing up questions to ask you. Since practically no one knew anything about you, he could get away with a few basic questions like what your favorite food or animal was. He’d later delve into the deeper questions, hoping they weren’t too personal to scare you off. He simply wanted to know the inner workings of the city’s local heroine, that’s all. Jeongin lost a lot of sleep last night specifically preparing for today. He got a brand new notepad, a new pen, and a fully charged camera - he was ready to pass his class.
It didn’t occur to him until now what you’d look like today. Would you be in your full outfit, suit and mask and all? Ah, but of course you had to be. There’s no way you’d be wearing your civilian clothes, right?
But what if you did? He wondered what kind of clothes you liked to wear. Were you a jeans and t-shirt type of person? Or maybe dresses and skirts? Whatever you wore on your down time, he was sure you’d look stunning regardless and he hoped he’d get to see you in them. Probably not today, or even the next time, but he hoped he’d see the normal you one day. The real you.
“Daydreaming on a rooftop isn’t very safe, you know.”
You snuck up behind him, causing him to jump and turn around. He was a bit disappointed but not surprised when he saw you in your suit. You looked exactly as he’d always seen you except you didn’t hold a scowl on your lips.
“I live life on the edge, remember?”
“Life on the ledge if I remember correctly.”
This rooftop was a lot fancier than you remembered. Then again, you didn’t focus on the furniture and decorations whenever you found him up here. He even had snacks and refreshments laid out on the table.
“Why aren’t you dressed normal?” the cute boy pouted.
“This is normal.”
“You know what I mean.”
“I can’t let the enemy know who I really am.” You saw him quickly scribble down what you said onto his fresh notepad. “Wait, are you writing that down?”
“Of course! I need to write down as much detail about you as possible! That way I have more to work with to write the perfect article.”
You really shouldn’t be trusting his words so easily. “If you say so.”
“Ok, first question: what is your name?”
“Seriously? That’s your first question?”
“You can’t blame me when you never gave yourself a superhero name! Personally, I think this is a great way to start off your biography.”
“I thought this was just an interview!?”
“Same thing.”
He was right, though - you didn’t have a superhero name. Not because you were trying to be cool and remain slightly anonymous, it was that you nor Woojin couldn’t think of anything that suited you. But it was kind of cool that you didn’t go by any name.
You told Jeongin your name. “My real name is _____.”
“You’re ok with telling me that?”
You simply shrugged. “It’s just my first name.”
“I thought I’d take months - years, even - for me to know your real name.”
“Don’t be so dramatic.”
“_____, huh? I like it. It suits you.” His dimpled grin yet again did wonders on your sensitive heart. Why were cute boys your kryptonite? “What do you do when you’re not out here saving us from taxis or drug pushers?”
Jeongin was able to get a giggle out of you and his ego couldn’t have been higher. That’s a good sign you were liking the interview so far, right? “I’m a student just like you.”
“Really!?” he screeched. “You don’t seem like the academic type.”
“That’s funny coming from someone who had to risk their life to save their grade.”
“Ah, I didn’t mean it like that! I meant it like… Like how do you even have the time to do both?”
“I have to pay for college somehow, right?”
Jeongin took note of how tired your smile looked. It must be exhausting trying to pass your classes and then flying around saving idiots like himself from crosswalks. You probably slept like four hours a night or something. He started to regret all the times he had you chasing him all over the city. Maybe he could make it up to you.
“Do you even like school? Why not just work for KimTech as a full time heroine?”
“Do you know how much insurance costs for heroes? A lot! Benefits from a career would make my life much easier.”
For the duration of the interview, Jeongin asked you the basic surface questions. Some were more personal than others, but this would be a good introductory type of article instead of one big one that dug deep into your life. Who knows, maybe he could use you again for this other assignments and dig deeper each time.
Initially, you were terrified going into this blindly. He could have been lying that he was a student the whole time, and he still could be! But somehow you knew he wasn’t. He didn’t interview you like you were the first celebrity he could catch on the street. He talked to you like he was getting to know a new friend. He made you feel at ease and comfortable and you just let your answers flow out. Something about that smile of his made it so easy.
“Wow, it’s already late. You don’t have to save anyone tonight?” Jeongin asked after two hours had passed.
You shook your head. “I don’t think so… Woojin hasn’t said anything today, so…”
“Woojin? Is that your boyfriend…?”
“Oh God, no, he’s one of the head engineers for KimTech. He made my suit.”
“Ah, I see.”
“Yeah, so there’s no need to get jealous.”
“That’s not why I asked ~” he whined.
“Is the interview over?”
“Technically yes, but I didn’t manage to ask all of my questions. I stopped after number three and we kind of went on a tangent and just kept on talking. Time flew right past us, I guess.”
“Oh. Did you want to reschedule for another time?”
“Like for another interview? Really?”
Would he really be able to see you again? The boy’s wide eyes sparkled cutely, so how could you say no to him? “Sure. You have to finish this some time, right?”
“I’d really like that,” he grinned. “Tomorrow?”
“Same time, same place.”
“Awesome! It’s a date! Stay safe while saving the city, ok?”
“Quit calling it a date!” you blushed, but the sneaky boy was already running away cackling. “He’s so weird…”
Yes, he’s weird, but that’s why you liked him.
“This wasn’t what I had in mind when I asked about wearing your normal clothes…”
Jeongin raised a questioning brow at you as he said that. You had a hoodie on with one of those popular logos spread across the chest but you wore your supersuit and eye mask just underneath it. It was kind of adorable, but it looked like you were just really bad at trying to disguise yourself.
“Think of it as a compromise, hm? It’s a bit chilly today, anyways.”
You watched the boy take out a his notebook that was already flipped to where you left off yesterday. Though you only answered three questions, it took up the entire page. He literally wrote down everything you said, word for word.
“Can I take a look?” you asked, gesturing to his notebook.
“Sure. Sorry if it’s all over the place. I tried to think of every possible cool question there was and I wrote them down whenever I could.”
He was right, the notebook was a total mess. The questions were written out of the lines, in the margins, and at the top by the header. But the best part about his notebook were the little doodles he had of you. Your mask, the suit design, even your silhouette was doodled all throughout his notebook. Up until now, you thought this whole chasing you around thing and finally catching an interview were innocent, but was he really this interested in you? Or maybe he was infatuated?
“Nice doodles,” you teased with a smirk.
Jeongin panicked and yanked the notebook away from your hands. SHIT, he completely forgot about those!
“On the days I waited for you to come find me, sometimes I’d get bored, so I doodled…”
“Ha! Cute ~”
There you go again, using that word! Was he cute? Were his doodles cute? Were all superheroes this flirty, or was it just the superheroines?
“Before we start, can I ask you something?” you began. “What’s your name?”
“My name? Have I really not told you yet?”
“I think I would have remembered if you told me.”
“It’s Jeongin. Yang Jeongin.”
“You’ve got an unforgettable name, Jeongin.”
“Ah, why do you keep doing that!?”
With a raised brow, you watched Jeongin ruffle his hair roughly. “Doing what?”
“Saying things like I’m cute and that I’m unforgettable and-and you keep smiling all weird!”
“Sorry, I thought I was just being nice ~ Should I stop?”
“I mean… You don’t have to… It’s actually kind of nice hearing those things once in a while.”
“You’re telling me people don’t walk up to you everyday and tell you how cute you are?” you teased.
“Surprising, right?” he said sarcastically. “I can barely get anyone to even look at me, let alone say stuff like that to me.”
“Then I’ll be the one to tell you that stuff everyday. Well, for as long as you’re interviewing me.”
“Ah, you don’t have to do that…”
“What if I said I want to?”
“But why…?” You shrugged, only worsening his confusion. He figured he’d leave it at that though - he’s only known you for a short time, but from the time he’s spent with you, he knows you enough that you probably wouldn’t elaborate. “You’re an interesting one, _____.”
“Ooh, make sure to write that in your article!”
The interview flew by faster than you could count. Jeongin made sure that you both stayed on topic this time around and he was finally able to get you to answer all of his stupid questions. Now he had enough information to write the best article about you! He’d get an A on this project, pass his class, and get you to smile from all the things he said about you.
“Your questions weren’t stupid,” you reassured him as he finished packing up. “No one’s ever asked me stuff like that before.”
“No one’s ever asked you about your favorite superhero? Or your childhood? Your favorite food?” he asked in disbelief.
You shook your head. “I don’t hang out with my college friends very often to be asked stuff like this. Busy life, you know?”
“Isn’t that lonely?”
“Yeah, sometimes. I guess having someone like Woojin makes up for it.”
“Ah, I see…” Jeongin muttered, lowering his head a bit.
“And you too, of course.”
“Me? You consider me a friend? After all the trouble I put you through just for my benefit?”
“Of course! We’ve spent a lot of time together playing cat and mouse. And you know almost TOO much about me.”
“Cheers to a new friendship then, hm?”
“Cheers. Unless you fail this assignment, then we’re not friends.”
“I’m so happy that you have my back…” he pouted. “What are you going to do now?”
You take a peek behind the boy and noticed that the sun was reaching its golden hours, which were the hours just before the sun set below the horizon. It was rare that you’d ever get to witness a sunset, let alone on a rooftop, so you think you’ll stay for a bit.
“I’m going to chill for a bit and enjoy the sunset. How about you?”
“I was going to go home and start the article, but can I join you instead?” he asked shyly.
“I would want nothing more.”
Both you and Jeongin reached the edge of the rooftop and watched the sunbeams bounce off of the mirrored windows on all the buildings, creating a golden overlay throughout the entire city. It was an incredible sight to see, but Jeongin only looked at you because God, this was great lighting for your portrait.
You heard a camera click beside you.
“You need pictures, too?” you whined. “I didn’t consent to this!”
“Of course I need pictures. I’d just have a pictureless article.” Jeongin noticed your uneasy expression and immediately regretted taking the picture. If you hated being interviewed on live television, he should have figured you didn’t like having your picture taken, either. “But if you really don’t like it, I’ll delete it -”
“No, that’s ok. If this means you’ll get a higher grade, then so be it.”
The cute boy hid his wide grin behind his fancy camera. “Thank you. You won’t regret these, I promise.”
“Oh?”
“Yeah. You look so pretty.”
Now it was your turn to try and hide your grin and blush. You buried your face in your hands so that only your smiling eyes were seen. Jeongin needed to capture you. The click of the shutter was heard quickly after.
“Got it!” he exclaimed. “That shot was perfect.”
“Is this how you felt when I kept on calling you cute?”
“Exactly. Now you can taste your own medicine.”
Did he call you pretty for the perfect portrait shot or did he mean it? You’ll never know.
After capturing your adorable grin, there was a long silence as you both watched the sun setting. It got dark quite quickly in your city and sooner rather than later, all of the streetlights and neon signs were turning on to light the city. Being up here when it was dark reminded you of when you first met Jeongin up here just a few of days ago. It was crazy when you realized how shortly you knew each other, yet you were already quite comfortable around him. It must have been his invasive interview questions that you had to answer. Even so, Jeongin couldn’t help but feel the same way.
“If I jumped over right now, would you catch me?” he asked, breaking you away from your thoughts.
Almost immediately, you replied, “Of course I would. Do you think I want blood on my hands?”
Jeongin must have thought he was so funny because after you said that, he began to climb over the short wall ready to jump. You grabbed his hand and pulled him back so you could scold his dumb ass.
“Are you crazy!?” you shrieked, tightening your hold on his hand. “Why!? WHY would you do that!?”
“Sometimes I think I’m funny.”
“Oh, you’re fucking hilarious!”
Jeongin laughed loudly while you squint your eyes at him and judged his horrible sense of humor. He thought he messed up big time because it really looked like you weren’t having it, but you were really bad at hiding your smile. Just as you were about to let go of his hand, he reciprocated your grip and didn’t allow you to let go. He didn’t explain himself and you didn’t ask him to. You liked the way his hand felt in yours. You both watched over the city together, fingers laced together.
“You should be doing something like this with someone normal, don’t you think?” you told him.
“But you are normal. A normal student just like me, right?”
“You know what I mean.”
“Normal is boring. I mean, what constitutes as normal, anyways? What society thinks is normal?” he scoffed dramatically.
“As a journalism student, aren’t you kind of like, the spokesperson for society? Don’t you constitute what’s normal?”
“That’s what teen magazine editors do, not an intellectual journalist like myself.”
“You just like holding a stranger’s hand.”
“You’re not a stranger.”
“You don’t even know what I look like!”
“Yeah, about that. Will I ever get to see the real you?”
That question was one you were afraid to answer. There’s nothing you want more than to spend time with Jeongin just like this, but without your whole get-up. You’d truly be just a normal person hanging out with their new friend. But would he still call you pretty? Would he still blush at your flirty words when he saw what you really looked like? Would he still hold your hand like this?
“Soon,” you replied.
“Not soon enough.”
“If you get an A+, then I’ll consider it.”
“B-”
“A-, final offer.”
“Challenge accepted,” he grinned evilly. “Wanna grab something to eat?”
“Yes, please!”
Jeongin wasn’t used to all the staring and gawking as you two walked down the street. He was amazed that you were unbothered by it, but he figured you must be an expert at blocking then out. He followed closely behind you, shyly hiding as you walked with your head held high.
“What are you hiding from?” you giggled.
“I’m usually the annoying onlooker, not the center of attention.”
“How does it feel?”
“I hate it!”
“Now you know how I feel everyday.”
Jeongin led you to an area packed with street vendors lined up for blocks as far as the eye could see. There wasn’t any lag between street carts as you plucked skewers of grilled meat and veggies like they were flowers. The boy struggled to to keep up with the payments you owed.
“Can you at least grab some for me, too? And why am I the one paying!?”
“Heroes don’t pay, silly,” you scoffed while handing him a meat skewer.
For a while, you and Jeongin just walked, enjoying the food, the atmosphere, and each other’s company. Despite being in your get-up, you felt so normal and you can’t recall the last time you had someone that wasn’t Jeongin beside you enjoying the simple things in life. It was probably Woojin, but all he ever talked about was work. Now that Jeongin was done interviewing you, was today the last time you’d hang out with him?
“What are you thinking about?” he asked innocently.
You shrugged, suddenly feeling too shy to answer. “Just wondering if I’d see you again after today.”
He stopped in his tracks, causing you to turn back and look at him questioningly. He wore a frown. “Of course we’ll see each other again. Why would you doubt that?”
“I don’t know… I was afraid you’d be someone who’d become a stranger as soon as you got what you wanted from me.”
He couldn’t blame you for thinking like that. He’d just have to prove you wrong. “I have to show you my A+ project and see your face, remember? I won’t stop bothering you until I see it.”
“What comes after I show you?”
“After? The same thing, no? Why, do you wanna go on a real date?” he teased.
“Shut up,” you said, shoving a churro in his mouth.
“I’m down if you’re down!”
A text vibrated your phone and you can only guess that it’s Woojin crying for help. The text read, ‘Hey, I have a suit update. Come over ASAP.’
“Duty calls?” Jeongin asked quietly.
“Yeah… I’ll see you soon, right?”
“Of course you will. Maybe with an A+ in my hands, too.” He paused before continuing on as if his next words were too risky. “Be careful out there, _____.”
“Aw, you’re worried about me?”
“The city’s scary at night, you know.”
Swiftly, in a blink of an eye, you kiss his cheek. Before he could scold you, you’re already gone and the feeling of your lips was left on his cheek the entire night. He held his hand to his cheek and a grin on his lips until he fell asleep.
He couldn’t wait to see you again.
You hadn’t seen him since. You couldn’t even remember how long it’s been. You were so caught up with the steady increase in crime rate and you suspected Jeongin was busy finishing his project on you, but when your day ended without running into him, your heart sank bit by bit.
You may not have seen him in a while, but it was so easy for him to keep tabs on you. You were all over the local news, social media, online articles, you name it. They were all the same superficial stuff. He couldn’t wait to publish the only written piece out there that showed all of your layers.
He never paid attention to the superficial stuff. He’d just mute out whomever’s recording and watch you carefully instead. It was like watching an action movie where he was rooting for the protagonist to win against the enemy every time. Sure, your tasks were never that action-packed, but watching you kept him at the edge of his seat, especially when there were weapons involved. Jeongin would find himself screaming at his phone or the television for you to play it safe, but God, of course you never did! You were so reckless every time, leaving with scars and bruises and noticeable stains of blood. He’d have to scold you for that later.
Jeongin kept his distance from you while he finished your article. He hadn’t stood on rooftops or cliffs or ledges for a long time. He wanted to focus completely and solely on it so he could finish without any errors. From the looks of it, it seemed like you had your hands full, anyways.
That much was true, but Jeongin could never bother you. You’d scold him of course, but as the nights became longer and the crimes were getting quite dangerous, seeing Jeongin was all you hoped for whenever you flew to a new location. But he was never there.
You were afraid. You were afraid, exhausted, and lonely. It was hard going through all of this alone and you wished that cute boy with the wide grin and wide eyes would come and save you from saving the city once in a while.
You hoped his project would end sooner rather than later.
“Hey, there’s suspicious activity by the river,” Woojin said into your earpiece.
“Can I pass?” you groaned tiredly.
“Last one for tonight, I promise.”
You flew down by the river where all the couples spent hand-in-hand walking along the sidewalk. What a cruel location for suspicious activity! You had to walk on ice here, so as to not endanger all the lovely couples.
The exact location Woojin sent you led you to a boy rocking on his feet at the very edge, like he was ready to jump in at any second.
You poke him lightly, causing him to stumble forward.
Then you grabbed him by the hand.
Jeongin’s feet are at the corner of the edge and you holding on to him was the only reason why he wasn’t soaked yet.
“Th-That’s not funny!!” the boy whined. But seeing that it was you, he couldn’t help but grin.
He missed you.
With his free hand, he held up a printed version of his project with a bug red 95 on it. “I got an A,” he said.
With your free hand, you took off your mask, revealing your pretty face in its entirety. You saw sparkles glow in Jeongin’s big eyes.
“Happy?” you asked.
“I will be when you pull me up from this position ~”
“Oh, right.”
You’re surprisingly strong when you pulled him up with your one hand. Your hair was loose and framed your maskless face perfectly. You were so, so pretty - just as he expected. It was a wonder that no one who knew you in real life recognized you with your mask on since it didn’t do much to hide your identity. He watched the blush rise to your cheeks adoringly.
“Stop staring,” you demanded.
“Ah, sorry. You’re just so pretty… I can’t help it.” Jeongin handed you his grade-A project. “Are you free to critique for me?”
“Pay me in street food?”
“Only if I can hold your hand.”
“You’re so corny... It’s a date,” you grinned. Now it was Jeongin’s turn to blush. “Let me change really quick.”
You were a jeans and t-shirt type of person.

HEY SO u didn’t wanna go on a trans!magnus tangent in ur sexuality post but *I* want you to go on a trans!magnus tangent! Tell me more about him coming to terms w/ his identity & how it’s influenced his life and all that. Essentially just give me all the trans!magnus content in ur brain. Love u ❤️❤️❤️ ~cursedlightwood
here’s my hot take: magnus’ gender is Tired. and yes, i will elaborate, because Ive spent the last 2-3 weeks doing research for this ask, so this is probably the most well-informed theory you’ll see on this subject. yeah, we’re doomed
EDIT: i was gonna say this from the get-go but i forgot, so: english is not my first language and i’m unsure about the usage of some terms that i found during research, particularly those referring to traditional javanese religions and customs; so, if you spot anything that is problematic, racist or colonialist please let me know and i’ll change it.
ok, so i want to start this off by saying that, although javanese society had a binary gender system, they had pretty egalitarian views on gender, and from what i’ve seen the division of labor wasn’t really set in stone - although they were less common than male ones, there were female warriors, for instance. both men and women could be the sovereign and were equally respected, both could ask for a divorce, etc. the most important part of their gender views, to me, seems to be that they believed women were better for diplomatic roles and trading, because they believed men were too emotional and not as good as debating and making compromises as women were (same source)
so i’m just gonna say this, here and now: AFAB!Magnus makes a lot of sense because Magnus is the most diplomatic person you’ll ever fucking see, and in this context, if he were AFAB, he would have been socialized to be for a very young age. and i dont mean hes diplomatic just on the sense that he’s literally keeping most of the characters together and preventing fights (remember when he had to stop a Raphael VS Simon catfight? ugh), but also in the sense that out of everyone hes the one who best handles the seelie queen, for example. he’s good at Wit Battles, negotiating, building bridges and dealing with power relations when its needed.
and i mean, this would also be a pretty good start on why he’d be like “no thanks” when it comes to this whole Womanhood thing, because yeah, Magnus is good at that, he has to be, but does he like it? to me it’s pretty clear that he doesn’t, that he’s absolutely uninterested in anything involving power and negotiations and this whole ridiculous dance it involves. also he’s constantly giving himself the short end of the stick so y’know. honestly, at heart, magnus is an inventor, an explorer; he likes to create things, he likes to learn, he likes to explore the world around him, meet people, help them, build relationships - but on equal grounds, not this whole give-some-take-some thing diplomacy entails. and as a Woman™ in pre-colonial java society, it’s pretty much that, be a farmer, or a concubine - we’re gonna get to that a little bit later on.
so i think in this context little magnus would be like “no thanks” and wanting to go around and, i don’t know, look at plants and learn their properties and figure out why apples fall, or something. it’s not exactly a Man’s Role™ either, although to be fair i found it a little hard to figure out what exactly were men’s roles in javanese society because gender studies usually just focus on women and treat men as the standard and don’t really explore how manhood is construed. but anyway. i know that they were warriors more frequently than women (same source), but women could be warriors as well. like i said, gender roles in javanese society weren’t really set in stone. [alec voice] they’re not rules, they’re suggestions.
add to that the fact that magnus lived in a port city - he had to, since in the early 1600s the dutch were only settling in important ports and trading centers - and the ports in java were very important trading centers that had been attracting people from all over Asia and Europe for centuries, and had a quite good share of migrants and immigrants living there, including quite a good share of Buginese, aka the people who had a 5-gender division. jakarta, which is in java, has like the 10th biggest buginese population in the world, not to mention the countless other societies that had their own views on gender relations; and you have a pretty good and accepting environment when it comes to differences. the javanese were flexible, they were well aware that culture isn’t set in stone, and they were very prone to syncretism. the kingdom allowed people to have any religion they wanted, even if its “official” religion at the time was buddhism. so really: the javanese were actually not very into the whole “imposing cultural constructs” thing, especially the coastal javanese. so magnus would have likely had the freedom to explore and to not really want to conform to any gender stereotypes without that being a HUGE deal, in my opinion.
and then there’s the fact that the concept of womanhood was a pretty disputed one at the time; yes, the javanese had their own views, but it’s important to note that by the 1600s most of the coastal javanese population had converted to Islam, which led to a few differences as well; when compared to other southeast asian communities, for example, the rate of women in trade was a little different - while it was a steady 50% in almost all countries and cultures, in indonesia it was around 30%, because muslim communities had more of a “women stay at home” view. however, when compared to other asian societies such as the chinese society, where the rate was of 1-5%, you can see that the javanese’s egalitarian views on gender stood a fair amount of ground. also, in indonesia, precisely due to their more open views, Islam mostly syncretised with local religions and customs, including the gender views; in Bugis, for instance, the 5-gender system was kept, as were traditional customs such as “ritual transvestism” and homosexuality. so, yes, it was disputed, and people had many views on what people could or couldn’t do, but that mostly ended up becoming a kind of “live and let live” thing. which is the perfect environment for 1- AFAB!Magnus be Very Tired of this whole womanhood thing that no one can even decide what it is anyway; 2- Magnus to say “fuck this” and live as a masc-leaning genderless entity that just wanted to make some goddamn potions.
but then there’s the colonial relations, right? how do the dutch come into this already very complicated and delicately balanced equation? that was honestly the main point of my research, trying to figure out just how much influence the dutch had at such an early stage of colonisation, and also what it would be like to live in a mixed-culture household such as magnus’. here’s what i have:
during the first century of dutch colonisation (aka the part we’re talking about) the dutch and the europeans didn’t really have a big influence in javanese cultural and political relations. the javanese were pretty well organised and had a powerful and strong society so the europeans didn’t really manage to invade them successfully - even the portuguese, the most powerful european nation at the time, tried and failed to invade them for the whole 16th century (get rekt lmao). so what the dutch did was, they simply established themselves as one of the many companies that settled in jakarta to trade, and slowly built their power and influence from there. don’t get me wrong, the dutch were very violent colonisers and in other parts of indonesia they were doing the european thing of mass genocide as much as any other country. they weren’t a “softer” version of colonisers, they just didn’t have the power to subjugate the javanese, so they had to try a slower approach. during the early 1600s, the only dutch people in java were the VOC workers (VOC is the dutch east india company - the acronym is in dutch. basically the company that was there to get some nice spices to sell to the rest of europe so they could shove it all up their assholes or smth since up to this day their food is bland as shit), and they weren’t permanent settlers; they could only stay in java for the duration of their contract with the VOC and they couldn’t bring their wives and children with them, and they couldn’t bring any wives or mixed children they had while in java back to europe, either (same source).
this weird relationship meant that magnus’ “stepfather” and his mother probably had a relationship of concubinage (told you we’d get back to that), which was not uncommon in java neither before nor after the arrival of the dutch. in short, his mother was supposed to take care of his house, make him food and all that jazz, and also have a sexual relationship with him, in exchange for money (same source). it was not prostitution and it worked pretty much as a marriage, except it was temporary and contractual. BUT it meant that magnus’ mother would have to have converted to christianism (same source) and due to the fact that she was in a temporary contract, she couldn’t divorce him, and in their home he would treat her as, well, europeans treated their wives - with the particular western brand of sexism that they so kindly forced unto the rest of us. so that makes the whole thing even more disputed and complicated.
but as a VOC worker, magnus’ stepfather wouldn’t even be home for most of the day, and he couldn’t really keep magnus or his mom from, like, leaving the house and doing their things. i think he wouldn’t even try because that would prolly be very looked down upon in java; spousal abuse in southeast asia as a whole was pretty rare, since anyone could divorce whenever they wanted and women were politically and financially independent, so i think if he tried to pull something like that he would be in trouble - again, the dutch were the minority, and for the most part, they lived as the javanese did, in their villages, in their homes, eating their food and mostly adapting to their customs (same source). they even mostly spoke indonesian in their homes, since most indonesians didn’t speak dutch, and indonesia was kind of the universal language at the time, since there were many languages spoken both in and outside of java (this also explains why magnus speaks indonesian instead of javanese; that would have been the language spoken at his home. you have no idea how relieved having an explanation for this makes me). also there’s the pressing question of, would he even give a shit what magnus does or doesn’t do? magnus wasn’t his biological son, and most of these guys didn’t care about any biological children they might have had with these women, since they were women of color and they would leave them eventually anyway. honestly this is all the more reason for him to treat magnus like shit - he was javanese, he was brown, and he wasn’t even related to him by blood. this was also probably grounds for him to treat magnus’ mom even worse, since in his christian eyes the fact that she had a child outside of marriage made her even lesser than other indonesians.
so honestly, what i’m picturing is something like - most of the time it was pretty okay, there were certain expectations and a certain kind of female socialization but it was okay that he didn’t really fit in there, and then with his stepfather the whole thing was just shit.
also, the fact that his mom was probably a concubine means there was a fair chance that his stepfather would have other concubines, and listen, yes i may be flexing, but you can’t stop me from imagining that maybe magnus was raised in a multicultural home with lots of other southeast asian women and children and maybe even buginese because again you can’t fucking STOP ME.
but either way, even if his home wasn’t like that, his city was - we don’t know which city he lived in, but it doesn’t matter, really; all cities with dutch settlers were port cities and therefore followed pretty much the same pattern of being a cultural tapestry with all sorts of influences coexisting in peace.
so really, little magnus lived in a pretty rich environment when it came to exploring his identity. he and his mom lived in a pretty egalitarian society gender-wise, he had the space and the opportunity to explore the world and figure out what he liked and didn’t like. am i going crazy imagining a tiny magnus with his mom, running around in other farms and listening, enraptured, stories of people from all over the world, about their cultures and lives, and learning there is so much to see and wanting to just go wherever he could, getting himself a passion for travelling that would later fuel his want to invent a quick way to go anywhere he wanted to, going to the port and seeing all the stuff they had available, from plants with healing properties to spices, and just loving to figure out their properties and how they could be mixed together to create new things, loving this world full of wonder and possibilities? maybe. god.
but anyway, what i’m trying to get at here is that it’s really impossible to think of a cis magnus in this context, no matter if you think AMAB or AFAB trans magnus - i know ive been focused on AFAB magnus here but really that’s mostly because 1- Projection; 2- thinking about AFAB magnus brings in new layers of complexity that need further exploration in my opinion; but really this applies to any magnus. what would being “cis” even mean, in a context where the very concepts of manhood and womanhood were so disputed and complex? and that’s not even going into the fact that after so many centuries, complying to gender roles of that time looked nothing like complying to our modern gender roles. really, it’s a lost cause. magnus kind of has a culturally-specific gender that…. no one but other warlocks born in similar situations could, really? there’s no word for it. there’s no explaining it with words. it is [REDACTED GOOD OMENS REFERENCE]
the closest we have is masc-leaning enby, since somewhere along the way he seems to have decided to use male pronouns and have a mostly masc-presenting body, even if paired with a more fem-presenting appearance fashion and mannerisms-wise. but again it’s too unique, there are way too many influences here.
and honestly that’s kind of beautiful! i love imagining small magnus having contact with people with all kinds of views on gender and society throughout his childhood, exploring, trying on their clothes, learning about their religions and customs, having elderly friends from different backgrounds and also young friends who were raised in very different ways, and sharing all of that, and learning about who he is amidst all of that, and being able to explore that and talk about that to his mom and friends and close people because they are used to these differences. even if when at home he was probably met with some kind of transphobic rhetoric and violence because of his stepfather and the imposed christianity that came with it - and that unlike other religions, didn’t syncretize at all.
which brings us to a second, very important point on the whole trans magnus ordeal, which is how deeply tied to racism the transphobia he’s suffered and the general understanding of his gender was. of course, this applies to every single of-color and non-western born person, but magnus has lived that through history. from a very young age, the blunt of the violence he was met with came from a racist standpoint that believed his very identity and existence made him lesser and in need to be corrected - because that’s what, after all, the colonizers were doing. their whole rhetoric was that the colonized were barbaric and needed them to learn the right ways through violence. it is worth noticing that the javanese have been referred to as “the most inhuman of all people” by dutch colonizers, and amongst the reasons for that was the fact that their views on gender were so different from the european’s (same source).
so really we’re mixing in the fact that he was a “bastard” child in his stepfather’s eyes, a warlock, and trans… and yeah, oof. there’s no way he was treated with anything other than violence from way before his mom’s suicide and the subsequent drowning attempt. in his stepfather’s eyes, everything about magnus’ existence was demonic, impure, and all the more reason why he and his mom were dirty and needed to be corrected.
it’s also worth noting that sorcery was a very big part of javanese culture that was also syncretized with pretty much every religion. the javanese believed in sorcery, believed everyone could do magic, and the dutch, of course, despised that. the source above is a pretty interesting article that argues that the european’s so-called “skepticism” on magic and “rational-based” culture was actually part of a construction of whiteness that hoped precisely to differentiate them from the “savage” others. i mean, the guys were burning women at the stake because they were “witches”, but every other culture’s religions, rituals and magic were just bullshit and couldn’t be trusted because the europeans were too rational and knew better? okay buddy. it also features an amazing story about a dutch colonizer who got hexxed because of his racism that is, quite frankly, heartwarming. but i digress.
so yeah listen i know i already talked about this on the other ask but there’s really no way the reason his mother killed herself was because she found out magnus was a warlock or a demon’s son or whatever. magic was part of their culture. it was what they believed in. it was a part of nature to them. it’s way more likely that the reason she killed herself was the constant violence she was met with in daily life that she couldn’t get away from, and his stepfather simply blamed magnus because, to him, he represented everything that was wrong with their culture - and that makes even more sense if we think about trans!magnus, because that makes him an even deeper abomination. it’s very likely that most of the violence and belittling his mother had to face was related to magnus as well - look what you created, what you do, your culture is an abomination, this is unacceptable. but magnus was way too small at that time, and he believed what his stepfather told him, because i mean, what else would he believe in?
i also think that asmodeus kind of messed with his perception of how the whole thing went down, telling him that he “murdered” him when really it was clearly self defense, erasing the violence his stepfather directed towards magnus and focusing on the end to convince magnus that he was evil, unredeemable, that no one would accept him but asmodeus, that he had no other choice. so that’s super fun! but yeah i do believe that asmodeus spent enough time gaslighting magnus and rewriting this whole story for this to be considered magnus’ worst memory, seen by him as a reminder of his “ugly side” that doesn’t really even exist. asmodeus weaponized this, which served the double purpose of convincing magnus he had no choice but to follow asmodeus, and teaching him that violence is normal and there’s nothing wrong with it, and that retaliating makes him bad.
this is all i have to say about the asmodeus years, really, because like i said before i don’t think he gives a shit about gender, he’s way older than it and who cares. but the trauma that the whole thing put magnus through is easily weaponizable. @thesorrowoflizards also wrote this amazing fic that features the headcanon that asmodeus used magnus’ transness to manipulate him as well, using spells that made him more masculine and stuff but only if magnus obeyed him. fun! especially considering that he was with asmodeus through his puberty (or at least that’s likely) when his body would have begun to change, so for him to have such a masc-presenting body…. yeah. this is very plausible. i love pain.
and then we get to england, where again, everyone is an asshole, about everything, all the time. like holy shit, he thought the europeans cared too much when he was in java, but that is nothing compared to the brits and their casual sentencing people to death for being gender non conforming. also, to the europeans, asian men were seen as emasculate and their gender relations as a whole was unnatural, and listen, i know that in 18th-19th century england men also wore makeup and stuff, but i mean, magnus was probably seen as exotic in his “effeminate” mannerisms and non-compliance to gender roles, even if people didn’t know he was AFAB or just trans in general. he was probably objectified in that sense, kinda like a human-zoo sorta thing. fascinating, these emasculated asians with weird bodies and customs. ugh.
so yeah gender got particularly exhausting at that time, too. thankfully there were the warlocks, who were old enough to know all of this was bullshit and who had people from all kinds of cultural backgrounds, thousands of people with culturally-specific genders, as well as other people who were raised in similar environments as him. so in there he finds a home of sorts, a place where this doesn’t matter and where he can be himself and nobody cares, and also has access to different cultures and views and knowledge, and really it’s like the good parts of his childhood again. he learns more about magic and potion-making, about other cultures and places, travels the world, learns about science and the workings behind his magic. creates new potions, new spells, continues his education, learns and remembers how much he loves this, the cultural effervency, the chances to learn and explore and create. really the warlock community is so amazing and it’s like, golden era.
but he’s also living amongst mundanes and to some extent he likes them - not to mention, he likes travelling and learning about different places and cultures. and they seem to care more and more about differentiating genders as time goes by, and to be getting more and more violent in their never-ending quest to force people to fit into these roles, and it’s. tiring. exhausting. who cares. it makes less and less sense to him, and this alienation from the whole thing only solidifies his non-conformance and general inability to fit. sometimes he feels old, and alone, even if he has other people who are Like Him now - the shadow world can get tiring, sometimes, and there’s also the shadowhunters racism thing going on that’s also inevitably trying to subjugate their spaces and looks down on their culture - so it also has the downsides of his childhood. sometimes it’s like there’s no word for who he is, no one that can understand it, no place where he can be fully himself and loved for it. and this only intensifies by the middle of the 19th century, when suddenly makeup and colorful clothing is not for men anymore, and he’s even less conforming than before - he was a pretty respectable Man™ to their standarts up to that point, but from then on that is lost. it doesn’t matter too much, because even if he is masc-leaning, he still doesn’t really see himself as a man in the sense that he seems to be expected to. but that furthers the alienation, and the feeling of loneliness and of being old and unfit for this world.
that is also when he meets camille! and that’s canon because there was that one picture of him with camille and ragnor and the clothes they are wearing are very much from the 1840s (i talked about this here), which is precisely when the whole men’s fashion differentiating from women’s fashion thing was starting. so in the context of his gender this makes it even easier for camille to manipulate him into thinking that she’s the only one who will ever understand and accept him, and that he’s naive, and that he doesn’t fit into the world and doesn’t understand what’s best for him, and really he should trust her judgement better because he is a man out of his time, but she can help him, and- yeah. that good olde cis-girl-abuses-trans-person routine, with even more elements than usual. ggghhhghh
and it’s not until the 1960s and 70s that these notions start to actually be challenged. of course, trans people have always existed and were building their own communities and helping each other as well as they could, and magnus certainly was a part of that, because, well, that’s who he is. he doesn’t leave people in need and he knows how painful it is to go through all of this alone, so he does his best to help and adopts pretty much everyone he can. but for the most part, they are a diaspora, and the cissexist society that alienates and tries to kill them goes on unchallenged.
that gives him all the more reason to get so involved with stonewall and the subsequent building of the queer neighborhoods and communities, that feeling that maybe he can belong after all, that things might change and his life doesn’t have to be an infinite cycle of violence, isolation, abuse, and repeat. seeing these events unfold, helping keep people safe, meeting Sylvia Rivera and all the other trans people of color who were part of this, who had stories so similar to his, who were also bisexual (!!), who knew what it was like. that was healing, and that was important to him, and gjfdkafaskfa yeah.
and of course not everything is a sea of roses, because then the community starts to divide and trans and bi ppl, particularly of color, particularly those who are like him, start to be looked down on. Sylvia is arrested and even booed at Pride, suddenly he’s drawing the short end of the stick again. and then there’s the AIDS crisis, and he sees so many people die, and for a while, it feels like there’s no way out after all. and he even loses a lot of his warlock friends, the people who really understand him in his entirety, because sometime around that there’s the Circle massacre, as well. it’s a dark time for him, and honestly its a good thing he’s sworn off romance after the whole camille ordeal to clear his head, because after losing so many people he’s never felt this alienated, this alone, and to fall into the arms of another camille or asmodeus would have been just too easy.
but god, he heals. it’s crazy, but he has raphael, he has cat, ragnor, dot, elias, and he somehow builds himself up and relearns to trust and starts to believe that he has the love he’s always believed himself unworthy of having, that he believed impossible to him. and he starts to open up, and to feel more confident in his own skin, right in time to meet alec.
and look, trans!Magnus just makes malec all the more powerful. not only is this shadowhunter showing up and fully trusting a downworlder, giving him his strength, caring about him, cleaning his home (!) and taking care of him, something he hasn’t allowed himself to have for so long, something he didn’t believe he could have and that alec does so easily even when they’ve barely met. he shows magnus so much care and respect from day one and magnus doesn’t get that from anyone, let alone a shadowhunter, let alone a shadowhunter that’s there with jocelyn’s entitled daughter who treats him as a tool - and look, i know he loves clary, but she is entitled and magnus unfortunately enables her and other entitled shadowhunters to treat him as such, because even he treats himself as such most of the time, and it’s something he needs to work on, and probably has been at least since he broke up with camille.
but he’s also a white, gay man, and magnus has seen firsthand that these people can be nasty to people like him. yes he tried to help alec come to terms with his sexuality, and yes he’s surprised him before, but it’s also not like alec didn’t fuck up and wasn’t entirely… well, shadowhunter-y and had a lot of trouble believing that things didn’t have to be the shadowhunter, bigoted way for a while. but alec doesn’t give a shit if magnus is trans, it doesn’t lessen his attraction or love to him in any way, and it’s just. ugh. beautiful.
and yeah this has gotten too long and it already took me like 3 weeks to answer it because of the amount of research ive done and general tiredness so im gonna end this here, and on a positive note for a change! magnus is happy and learning to take care of himself and accepts himself and trans rights. hell yeah.
#it's FINALLY here god damn it i have answered this ask!!!!!!!! holy fuck#ask#cursedlightwood#necromimetics#i know who u are skyler pls#sh#shadowhunters#magnus bane#trans magnus bane#meta#magnus meta#sh meta#malec#overflowing trashcan

Questions and Comments
1. is this a homestuck thing. this is a homestuck thing isnt it 2. lol i love doing both!!! i love world building but i also like trying my hand at redesigning the mess that is canon fashion. @theoretical-artist 3. thank you!!! oritel and marion are in this post! 4. ayyyyy inginio hit me up (thank you lol) 5. Thank you! 6. maybe? i’ll see if i get around to it, i still have a few characters to get to so the school fairies and the last two selkies might show up with them 7. probably not.... it would be super fun but unless it was a commission i don’t feel like i have time haha 8. I’ve seen their blog around!! i can’t remember if i follow or not but i know who ur talking about and they cool @winxy-writing @winxys-written-world
Character and Worlbuilding
1. My brilliant nerd daughter!!! She sometimes gets so into coding or a video game she forgets to eat or drink so the girls watch out for her. She’s prone to dissociating, especially if the situation is emotional. Her hair is really soft. she actually loves sappy romantic things but has trouble accepting them or vocalizing that she wants them because they’re impractical/illogical. she discovered romcoms when she got to alfea and they are her ultimate guilty pleasure(only flora knows abt this and is always slipping recs to her) 2. They’re weirdly one of my fav couples??? like maybe its because i relate to and have projected onto both of them lmao. but any ways. Daphne and Thoren actually met when they were kids, but didn’t spend much time together because it was at a formal event. Daphne is technically 20 years older than Thoren(only a few years older than Sky), but they’re the same physical age because Daphne spent so long as a spirit. They probably wouldn’t get married as quickly in my version, especially with Daphne’s trauma. Daphne will have nightmares sometimes and Thoren has a whole routine for comforting her and helping her feel safe and grounded. Thoren gets anxious easily, and Daphne will use her magic to subtly change the environment so he feels more comfortable. they like to watch reality tv together and yell at dramatic people. 3. omg yes. this was the most frustrating thing i was watching through winx with my dad like a month ago and every time bloom called her adoptive parents by their first names i yelled at her lol. she would call Vanessa mama and Mike daddy(if you make a kink joke i will eat your liver). She would call Marion and Oritel mom and dad. 4. Yeah kind of! part of her exhaustion in Dowlland was the fact that she had been in fairy mode for so long, hiking underground, and tossed around in a river like??? anybody would need a pick me up after that. She (and all solarians) do have to live where there’s a lot of natural light as they require a high amount of vitamin d(or the equivalent of it for solarians). short trips usually aren’t a problem, Stella is just hella unlucky in the second season lmao. @moonpeachblossom 5. the short answer as to why she’s a blond (scottish??? in one of the dubs???) in an asian inspired culture/planet is because racism (or not so short bcus its a lot to unpack honestly). the answer in my version however is a pretty simple fix. She bleaches her hair. she’s paler than musa but she aint white. 6. I haven’t really yet!! Helia is struggling with his two fairly opposed cultural influences, trying to figure what he wants and whats right for him. He was raised on Lynphea but had frequent trips to Vaonaa. Lynphea is very grounded, they’re slow and steady and stubborn. Vaonaa is much more flexible, they’re flighty and spontaneous and easily adaptable. Helia’s dads love eachother and helia very much but they are VERY different people and both want different things from Helia(they try not to pressure too much but the expectations are still there). Helia’s Vaonaaj dad wants him to pursue magic, specifically wind or air magic. Helia’s Lynphean dad wants him to become a warrior. Helia feels like he’s kind of a misfit in both Vaonaaj and Lynphean culture. It took a while, but he did finally confide his feelings in Flora and she encouraged him to talk with his dads about finding his niche. 7. oooooooh fun fun relationshipsssss Bloom and Sky: so bloom and sky aren’t the most stable couple, and in my version it would take bloom a little longer to be ok with dating a prince. Bloom is fairly insecure in her relationships because of self worth issues, and tend to run away from problems instead of dealing with them. Sky on the other hand is confident but doesn’t really know how to handle people’s feelings and tends to push confrontation. I do believe that with better writing Sky and bloom could be a dope couple but as is in canon they’re VERY problematic. Stella and Brandon: babies. they love each other so much its the best omg. Stella finds her worth in her appearance but she always seems to take brandon’s complements in a less.... arrogant way? if that makes sense? like she truly appreciates them and wants his support. i wish we knew more about Brandon but he’s legit such a good boyfriend. I think they fight mostly when Stella is being a little selfish, or when Brandon is too busy to meet her emotional needs. Flora and Helia: MORE BABIES. so Helia is more of a drama queen in the comics but we’ll ignore that for right now lol. Flora and Helia are probably the least problematic couple in the entire show. They met. Flirted a little. Confessed. and started dating with out any major problems. if i can remember correctly they don’t even really fight??? unless icy has frozen helia’s heart or something lol. I think both Helia and Flora’s love language is quality time so they’re fairly low key and just like to be in the same space and each other. Musa and Riven: boy oh boy. Ok so, ignoring the several times Riven was LITERALLY MIND CONTROLLED his character is still difficult to deal with. I think Musa and Riven are both very intense people, and while that can be super fun and develop into a good relationship, it can also lead to LOTS of problems. I think my major problem with how they broke up was that Musa didn’t support Riven’s training? like i understand being upset you can’t see ur person often, or if they’re really busy, but Riven supported Musa’s music several times in the previous seasons it just seemed weird Musa was so unfairly demanding of him? Tecna and Timmy: nerd babies. They’re super cute honestly. I think Timmy was probably the one to instigate the relationship and bonded with Tecna over technology since she wasn’t super emotionally available at first. They have issues when Tecna is unable to voice her emotions and timmy needs to know what she’s feeling mostly, but after the first few times they’ve both learned to give the other space to figure their stuff out. Aisha and Nabu: ugh perfect couple. minus the kind of sketchy beginning lol. Aisha and Nabu generally don’t fight once they get used to each other. Nabu is a focal point that aisha is kind of bungee corded to if that makes sense? like obvi not in a restricting way. its just Aisha is hella active and needs her own space to explore and grow, but Nabu is her solid ground that she relies on. Aisha and Nex: i actually don’t hate nex as much as the rest of the fandom lol. so like i said Aisha is an active, independent woman, and if Nabu was a separate, stationary, focal point for her, I think Nex is related, moving, counter point. So like Nex can actually keep up with Aisha, and push her and challenge her. Which isn’t a bad thing in relationships so long as a mutual respect is there. 8. well. canon is a little..... messy. My version of the girls definitely retain their individualism. for other differences... they’re just a little more fleshed out? i guess? like Bloom’s moody behavior in the show i think is because of her insecurity issues, so that plays a part in how i draw her and think of her. 9. ok wow this is gonna be tough well here we go Sky: I think sky is an ESTJ he’s not super emotional(inf Fe) but can lean toward controlling(dom Te). he seems to like tradition and think social promises are important(Si). Brandon: ESFJ. Brandon is the mom friend of the boys ok. He goes along with sky’s crazy plans, tries to subtly set Riven up with musa(season 1 i think?), some how managed to land a social butterfly like Stella and seems to just navigate social situations REALLY easily(dom Fe). he also seems to hate being disrespected or taken for granted(Si) stella does this occasionally. Timmy: ISFJ???? thats the vibe i get hear me out ok so in season 2 Timmy gets tecna the exact computer part she needs because 1. He knows they both like things to be practical(Si) 2. He knows and remembered the part she was talking about and filed it away in his brain(Ti) and 3. He and Tecna bonded over tech (Fe) Riven: honestly he’s a tough one.... Maybe a really stunted and angry ISFJ? (speaking from personal experience i am an ISFJ) i don’t have a real reason why but riven’s behavior is really confusing in the show so it makes typing tough..... possibly INTJ as well....... Helia: ISFP. Lmao I might be basing this entirely off of stereotypes but helia has a strong pacifist belief and can be moody(Fi, and more in the comics lol) is attuned to his surroundings(Se) seems pretty focused??(Ni) and i can’t think of his Te showing up be it is an inferior Nabu: ISTJ weirdly a good fit with Aisha(ESTP) tho?? even though he’s an Si dom, he doesn’t go along with the arranged marriage because its not what he believes(Fi) and he’s stubborn about it(Te). Roy: ENFJ honestly just a cutie. He’s personable(Fe), focused for the most part(Ni), and is comfortable in his environment(Se). Nex: ENTP? maybe?? He’s pretty impulsive and has that “work around” mentality I associate with ENTPs.... idk this one doesn’t seem to fit super well... Thoren: Maybe INFJ?? i mean thoren honestly doesn’t have a lot of screen time but he’s attentive(Ni), and tries to take care of people(Fe). most of the infj’s i know are fun but weird lol, but i think thoren has anxiety so that could play into him being less “out there” in his behavior. if any of yall have input on this feel free to let me know. 10. ooooooh good question. So I’m basing these on their parent’s name and the names of people from their planet. Bloom: Hestia or Enya, i also think she got sent to earth with an article of clothing or a blanket that had her name on it, which is why her name is the same lmao Stella: Stella is actually named pretty appropriately considering the other names we have are Luna, Radius, Nova, Chimera, and Casandra, all of those are fairly latin/roman based names. but she could also be called Clara, Aura, Venus etc. Musa: Her mom and dad have very asian sounding names but the princess of melody is named Galatea, so honestly anything is on the table. Aulos, Hee-Young, Jia Li, Kaida, etc. Tecna: lol everybody on Zenith has ridiculous names so im just loosely basing them off of sciencey stuff. Nobelia, Xenon, Titania. Aisha: I actually really like Aisha’s name! Ayize, Sizani, Mehrbano would work tho. Flora: what even is the naming system of Lynphea i don’t understand it. Im gonna make them vaguely naturey and European-ish?? Calla, Terra, Rowan, Willow, I could go on and on there are so many plant names. 11. Hmmm yeah, so basically in my world a person with TOO MUCH magic gets overwhelmed and kinda goes a little crazy(the ancestral witches) the same thing happens with tritannus when he gets the emperor's throne power. He’s loyal to icy and she to him until he looses his ability to think clearly and turns on icy, icy gets freaked out and leaves with her sisters when they swoop in to rescue her. they don’t so much “break up” as they are “broken up” by the circumstances. In general Tritannus does really like Icy, hes attracted to her ambition and powerful personality. Icy started out just manipulating Tritannus but caught feelings oops 12. Yeah so, humans in general can withstand a lot of wild magic as their body “metabolizes” it quickly. Kalshara(the cat lady you don’t know the name of) used extremely concentrated samples, combined with other spells to keep the wild magic in her body permanently. If a human with out a properly developed magic biome (a lot of earthians only have a low functioning one) get exposed to a wild magic source they would probably gain some aspects of fairy animals, probably not like, fur, or anything but eye and hair color changes, maybe some patterns on the skin. but there’s also the chance that they would just.... die..... cus that happens with animals too lmao sry. @weirdghostly
