Oh hmm, no I understood your original point you were making. Unfortunately that is just not how fan fiction works in general. You are absolutely correct in your thinking and interpretation of the situation. After all Death eaters are based on Nazis. Hell, Grindelwald was in the middle of things during the second muggle war. It is a disgusting ideology and dangerous to spread and worship and simplify especially in the current political climate of the world.
That being said, fan fiction has always been about taking canon and warping it to a different perspective. Because many people disagree with with those idealogies in the first place, they choose to distance the characters. And yes, tbh? Whatever is not canon, what is fanon? Is actually OCs with the same name (there uses to be an obligatory disclaimer for any piece of art so that people would not get sued). Because the author chooses to give life to that interpretation. They give a part of their own views and morals to those characters. I think that is part of the creation process, and why a lot of people are sensitive about the fanon versions of characters being villinized. They are based on real people and real life experiences.
When people defend Regulus in CR, they defend that iteration of him. Because the author did such a good job giving him life under different circumstaces, with different morals and reactions.
But tbh? I am more wondering about what you think about the part of fandom that worships the Death Eaters. Like for real. No excuses. They just write them as is and they enjoy that. 🤷🏻‍♀️ cause in all cases with Regulus for examples, they write him very much distancing from those principles. 🧐
Besides the point, as I stated, I totally understand your view, but man, I am here to escape the real world so I kind of tend to enjoy the light heartedness of the fandom...and probably read way too much smut in my free time.
because the marauders fandom as a whole generally uses this phrase horrifically wrong, i’m going to explain what “morally grey” actually does and does not mean!
morally grey is NOT:
1. character who’s done a lengthy series of horrific things and then does one sort of good thing.
2. character who had a bad childhood and then as an adult, commits violent hate crimes.
3. character who is supports racism/bigotry/misogyny but it’s okay because they get bullied or they’re poor.
4. character who’s done a lengthy series of really good things and then does one sort of bad thing.
5. character who is a horrible person who’s done numerous horrific wrongs, but they’re a little white boy, or a tiny little twink man, or an emo dark haired baby boy, or a blond freckled cinnamon roll, so it’s magically fine.
morally grey IS:
1. character who fights for good/equality/a noble cause but goes about it in a violent or harmful fashion. yes, violence is necessary in times of war. but it is still morally grey to engage in it.
2. character who is forced into an oppressive role and is choosing the safety of themselves over the safety of an oppressed population.
3. character who had a bad childhood and struggles to break the cycle in which they were created, but makes an effort to do so anyway.
the bottom line is that moral greyness represents an actual struggle between good and evil influences that manifests into tangible action.
regulus black is NOT morally grey. the one good thing he ever did was not for a good reason. therefore he was not struggling between good and evil. his entire life was dedicated to himself, his power, which comes from blood supremacy.
barty crouch jr. is NOT morally grey. he had a bad childhood theoretically, but he never canonically fought against those influences, and it’s implied that his childhood was bad as a direct result of his sadistic tendencies. therefore, there’s no struggle between good and evil.
bellatrix lestrange is NOT morally grey. being a woman does not automatically counter or somehow excuse her dedication to blood supremacy, which never wavers or changes. no struggle between good and evil.
severus snape is NOT morally grey. his actions appear to be good, but the reasoning behind them are never that. he protects harry because he sees lily in him. he doesn’t express remorse for his blood supremacist views even when he becomes a double agent. he openly bullies and torments children for things they can’t control due to the bitterness in his heart. he was bullied in childhood but it was due to his blood supremacist beliefs. it all comes back to him clinging onto the slightest semblance of power he has as someone with wizard blood in him. though his actions suggest it, i personally see no true struggle between good and evil, as his objective is always the same.
ron weasley is NOT morally grey. his occasional moments of rudeness are never guided by evil intentions. he is simply human, and his bad actions do not remotely balance his good actions. his good actions are so significant and common that his bad actions are tiny blips of misjudgment that can be attributed to emotional outbursts. emotional outbursts do not imply moral greyness.
albus dumbledore IS morally grey. his intentions are good, but the way he goes about doing what he does is horrific. he is willing to murder children in order for more children numerically to stay alive. debating which lives are more precious through simple logic is moral greyness because it is a struggle between the good of saving lives and the bad of sacrificing other lives. all for a good cause, but is it really so good if it causes death?
i’m too tired to think of other characters but moral greyness is present in harry potter/marauders. just not in the characters that the fandom is implying. morally grey is not an excuse for one’s actions or a way to criminalize one’s actions. it’s simply a way to describe somebody. akin to a personality trait.
and this is my take on it! i know i’m gonna get death threats but i don’t really care! i know i’m right!

my disability hit me like a train three and a half years ago and it’s only gotten worse and I still have no answers as to the cause. The thing that terrifies me the most is whether or not the progression I’ve experience was inevitable?? Like even with all the possible available treatments would my mobility be this bad?? Or would it have been prevented with diagnosis and treatment??
Idk the thought that this extent of my suffering could have been prevented given a better healthcare system fucks with my brain so bad.
hope I’m not the only one that feels this way.

with every statement that I see being made from the writers/creators of the show, the 5 stages of grief I went through to digest the letdown that was season 2 start all over again
finding out that the arcane writers intended piltover vs zaun to be the two party system in the USA "struggling to communicate with each other" really has me wondering what planet these people are actually living on

No need to smile.
Why not?
The editor asked for it. You know, for a less happy picture.
Ah, he wants it sad. We will smile. Smile.

I feel like there's also acephobia in the whole 'oh my gosh its the first queer doctor thing' because like
even if you ignore the fact that the doctor has been explicitly stated to have romantic attraction for people of the same gender for decades now, the Doctor has been seen as ace by writers/actors since the days of Tom Baker, and maybe even before that
and being Ace is still queer, yall get that right?
like yall know the doctor doesn't have to be kissing people of the same gender to be queer... right?
Wondering if there's a bit of acephobia stirred into the mix of that whole "Thasmin is queerbaiting because they didn't kiss" discourse.
Like, y'all do realise that not everyone considers kissing to be the main signifier of relationships, right?

neve came back and I IMMEDIATELY started crying
#is it my adoration of neve as a character or my country’s political climate? remains to be seen#neve gallus#had been talking to a friend pre-game about how she didn’t appeal to me and boy the fuck was I WRONG#I just walk into her room and stand there and feel guilty#(because I couldn’t save minrathous in ADDITION to treviso#not because I’d save it instead)#my heart will always be in treviso with its people who have no means of fighting back#and not with tevinter and all of the things it COULD’VE done!!!!!!!!!#bitter especially because of my current real life country tbh and all the….. everything#but y’know#datv spoilers#veilguard spoilers#datv#dragon age: the veilguard#thinking especially heinously mean thoughts of my sister#who has been in a wlw relationship for several years - I had her girlfriend at my wedding - but she feels so strongly#that she’s the EXCEPTION to lgbt people (and therefore votes conservatively every election)#it is so so so so SO frustrating because I even came out to her at one point#which I would NOT have done (since she’s a republican!!!!!!) in the hopes that it would help her feel not so alone#because I KNOW it tore her up for DECADES and I don’t think people deserve to struggle like that#and then she turned it back around in her maga hat and her pro-[redacted] posts#and ALSO told my parents just to get back at me for something#I don’t understand I don’t understand I don’t understand#I don’t understand how you can hate other people so much#and I don’t want to have that conversation with my parents#and I know that I will and I am……… fucking Christ I am struggling with that#jesus fucking Christ did I not know that a casual dragon post was gonna be the place where I reflected like this

Not to be the friend that's too woke but uh
The second episode, The Devil’s Chord, introduces a villain named Maestro, played by the non-binary RuPaul’s Drag Race star Jinkx Monsoon. When Maestro first appears, a teacher tells a boy to “get away from him”, which serves as the set-up for a line about pronouns. Maestro says: “I’m them. Them. Me,” then kills the man.
To be honest having the only explicitly non-binary character be evil and murder someone immediately after talking about their pronouns is incredibly tone deaf. It also reinforces that, actually, the teacher was right in telling the kid to get away from them, because they did turn out to be dangerous. What kind if message about the queer community and Drag Queens is that sending out???

As a teen, I used to agree with people who hated on small-talk. I hated the though of it, of talking to people for no reason.
But at this point I feel like I should say that I changed my mind. I love small talk. Talking to a lady on the train about her dog? Amazing. Chatting to the elderly man on the table in the cafe next to you when you're both eating alone? Very nice.
There's just something about human connections that makes me really happy. So talk to people, hold small-talk. You're both human and isn't that in and of itself amazing?

Album of the Week: Ensiferum - Winter Storm
Tumblr media
Release: 2024
Length: 42:12
Thoughts: I procrastinated this a little bit for no clear reason. The beginning already tells you very clearly that this is Ensiferum with a lovely instrumental intro that sets the mood, but the rest of the album feels unconventional.
In fact, it feels like a love letter to Wintersun. Long Cold Winter of Sorrow and Strife is pretty on the nose, and the harmonies are so similar it's hard to think of anything else. Which is interesting because Wintersun has a fairly unique sound and another accomplished band going for that effect produced a very fun song.
As usual with these bands, the folk elements are what makes or breaks it. Ensiferum build a soundscape that brings you right into the heart of a barren winter landscape before hammering you with blast beats as armies approach. Their signature sound is mixed with new approaches and various vocal styles including a fantastic guest singer in Madeleine Liljestam.
It's a very variable album - Winter Storm Vigilantes thematically belongs in power metal and the vocal style made me question momentarily if they resurrected early 2000s James Hetfield (Whisky in the Jar, anyone?). Galloping drums under triumphant hymns and wild growls over the image of a winter landscape. Yeah, that's Ensiferum.
Overall a fun album with some interesting twists, not quite as heavy as I'd expected but not to its detriment.
Favorite song(s): Long Cold Winter of Sorrow and Strife, The Howl

courtesy of the last few post. your opinions / thoughts on organizing in the present day?
incredibly important if you're serious about your political objectives, actual lasting change can only be brought about collectively!!! it's tedious and frustrating and most of the time you will feel like you're not getting anywhere despite your best efforts but it has to be done. disco elysium voice in dark times should the stars also go out
