It's more of a defence mechanism them anything else. It's not allowed to be special, because if those moments are special then that means that Guillermo is special… but he is a familiar that cant handle vampirism, so he cannot be special to the vampire nandor the relentless, because it's not allowed.

Like. I have fifteen years of trust issues when it comes to this stuff so I'm in no way saying anything to defend anything or stating a belief or even truly theorizing here but. Rewatching seasons 1-5 really has me feeling like that. Those comments from That Interview HAVE to be sarcasm/trolling, right? Right????

Because the level of out of touch you'd have to be to think anyone invested in this show actually cares that Nandor is (barely) Guillermo's boss, or to think that they're not in gross, mushy, big, forever, life-changing, unhinged, kill and die for each other love...truly is breathtaking to me. To the point I kind of want to refuse to believe it's possible for someone directly involved in the show to BE that out of touch?

Especially after all the heavy lifting done in seasons 2-4 to eliminate any perceived power imbalance between them? Showing that Guillermo is immune to hypnosis and can best Nandor in a fight. The lengths gone to in order to illustrate how important they are to each other, how well they know each other.

Nandor's arc for two whole seasons of the show LITERALLY being looking for love in all the wrong places while Guillermo stands faithfully by his side, giving him the comfort and companionship he's so desperately seeking the whole time. MARWA AND ALL THE KISSING AND CUDDLING OF GUILLERMO AT THEIR LITERAL WEDDING RECEPTION AFTER NANDOR WISHES FOR HER TO LIKE WHAT HE LIKES. Nandor's immediate and obvious jealousy when Guillermo introduces Freddie. Nandor's grief when he thinks Guillermo is dead. The way Nandor can't handle it when Guillermo leaves in general. Guillermo visiting the worst humiliation a vampire can experience upon Nandor and Nandor just...getting over it? Helping complete his transformation? Helping give him his humanity back when Guillermo realizes this isn't what he wants? Breaking one of the greatest vampire taboos in the process like it's nothing? The frankly stunning revelation that he's always known Guillermo wasn't ready, and that his holding off has always been FOR GUILLERMO?

And Guillermo's sadness whenever Nandor pushes him away. The first time we see him cry is because Nandor told him to take that other offer. Guillermo being willing to die to save Nandor (and Nandor actually almost dying to save Guillermo). Guillermo's obvious jealousy and protectiveness when it came to Nandor's thing with Gail. Guillermo rescuing Nandor from himself with the cult. Nandor being the first one he reveals his secret vampire killer heritage to. Nandor being the last one Guillermo tells about his turning, because he doesn't want to hurt him. Nandor's indifference at the end of season 4 being the thing that actually pushes Guillermo to go to Derek, despite every other setback and loss they've suffered that year. Guillermo literally saying the words with his mouth "I love Nandor the most."

Also just. The two of them LITERALLY being the embodiment of what the other one wants most AND being the one to pull the other back from their most self-destructive attempts to get it? I mean COME ONNNNNNN.

I know TV writers have a long and fucking stupid history of doing this shit. I do. I know it. But like...this show is already so fucking queer? And it's so in-your-face INTENTIONAL about Guillermo and Nandor's relationship? To the point it's almost been the A plot of an entire fucking season? Between my trust issues and my media literacy and my queer little heart's stupid insistence on hoping...I'm struggling, fam.

i ship nandor and guillermo as much as the next person, but being disappointed at a season because they didn't become canon is a bit crazy, especially when the whole show doesn't just revolve around these two characters, and also when this season has allowed to see how much actually all of them care for each other, and yes, they care about guillermo as well.

nandor putting aside his pride for guillermo, moving past the fact that someone turned him into a vampire, says a lot. giving guillermo what he wanted, which was to be human (hopefully just at the moment, because otherwise that's just sad but this is a subject for another post) and people saying that one can still consider nandor's and guillermo's relationship as "platonic"... in what world?

some people out there are only gonna be happy with a season once these two become canon, otherwise, the whole thing is shit and is "queerbating" the people.

I kind of don’t like what they’re doing with Guillermo’s transformation

Okay that’s kind of hyperbole. I love the narrative element, the way that it very obviously connects to infidelity and sex is a great angle. Especially when you look at the queerer sub-subtext.

However, I kind of just want Guillermo to be happy? Like, obviously this is a T.V. show and sunshine and rainbows does not a plot make, but still.

Guillermo’s worked for Nandor for twelve years. And it’s not just work! This is full time complete dedication to Nandor and his housemates. He lives there, he relies on them for his survival, he can’t work anywhere else, he didn’t have a relationship for a very long time and when he did get one it was ruined. Guillermo is giving up so much for this!

All he wanted was to be a vampire. I know why Nandor won’t turn him (he doesn’t want him to leave) but this is still horrible. We’ve established his poor living conditions and minimal pay (..do they pay him?) in season one.

I’m a Nandermo shipper like most of us, but you have to recognize the abuse of power as an employer (sort of) that Nandor is holding. If Nandor isn’t going to give Guillermo what he’s worked so hard for, Guillermo should find it somewhere else.

And if you put it into a sexual context, obviously that’s horrible. If your partner isn’t giving you what you need from a relationship, break up before you find a new partner. And I do think Guillermo should’ve talked to Nandor or even left as a familiar before he asked Derek for help, but even then, this isn’t sex!

Nandor and Guillermo aren’t in a relationship. The expectation for loyalty and respect aren’t mutual. Nandor expects Guillermo to be loyal and respectful to him without treating Guillermo the same way. In the context of a romantic relationship? Their relationship is incredibly toxic and abusive.

I just don’t think that Nandor should expect respect when he hasn’t shown that to Guillermo. Nandor of season 5 is not Nandor of season 1, but he still isn’t an equal to Guillermo. Nandor makes fun of him, degrades him, doesn’t see him as “human” (in this instance he doesn’t see him as vampire, which makes sense, but uses it as an excuse to treat him like dog shit)

I love what they’re doing, it just makes me a bit sad. That’s all.

Can we just appreciate how much nandor, nadja and especially Lazlo has come from literally treating Guillermo as trash to noticing how Guillermo is sad and celebrating his (not) birthday. Even Lazlo literally being concerned for him cuz he was acting odd and talking to Nandor about it and even following him through out the mall to find out whats wrong, And nandor saying it’s because he doesnt get guillermo to do as much task as he used to, Nadja actually listening to Guillermo and saying that for his birthday wish they’ll try to blend in more, Nandor literally giving him a gift for his birthday and planning his dinner bday. 

Like they all genuinely are taking interest or caring about guillermo in this season, can we all say that they would attend his birthday in season 1 or even initiate to celebrate his birthday? No. They literally talk about him when he’s not there, like even though they are making fun of him, its not as condescending as before, and also Lazlo bringing him up and thinking about what Guillermo said about not being there anymore. 

All of them at the mall listening to guillermo that they’d stay where they are, when we know that if this was s1 they would’ve just told him to shut the f up or ignore him, and literally waiting until he turned his back to quickly roam around the mall. Like they’re legit trying to listen to him or show him that they are listening to him even though they won’t really do as he says is the funniest thing cuz even guillermo knows it’s useless trying to tell them what to do.

Something that kind of bugs me is that Laszlo and Nadja keep acting like Guillermo was going to be turned by Nandor and that he should’ve just waited. They keep saying it and it’s completely bullshit.

We can all see that familiars are never turned. Sure Nandor did it for one familiar in the past but that was after YEARS and BRAINWASHING and bullshit. There is no way he was ever going to change Guillermo. It is what it is.

I just hate that everyone keep shaming Guillermo for his actions because tbh they were completely justified. He saw the writing on the wall.

But the thing is, despite all the disrespect Guillermo loves them. If he didn’t actually care he would have left when he was turned. But no, he is still there doing all the bullshit the vampires need because he does care.

None of them respect Guillermo and while comedic it’s also so sad. They all take him for granted- especially Nandor.

So I am going to try to parce through my Our Flag Means Death Season 2 premier.

Episode 1: Impossible Birds

The dream sequence is amazing. I love that his subconscious will not let him get off light. Izzy saying "I didn't make you leave him" like the most spurned lover. Aaaah. Ed never actually saying they are OK.

So much in this episode. So many moving parts. I like Stede’s working but I am surprised he still appears to be the defacto leader despite Olu being named captain.

Olu and Zheng Yi Sao: I want to like them. I really do but they don't have time to flush out this little flirtation. I think they should pick Olu and Zheng or Jim and Archie to focus on. They have such little air time to have them catch up to the last seasons canon couple chemistry/back stories. I also hope that her motivation saving the crew was more than her crush on Olu. She is such a power house it feel incongruous that she would be so easily swept up with no build up to their thing. I like Auntie though.

Jim is so good this season. They were the least likely too, but they actually bought into what the Revenge did. They care for their crew mates, even Izzy. The little wooden boy voice for Fang! Their fighting, the new look! The only thing I am still not sure of is Archie. So far I haven't gotten much from her personality other than she likes Jim.

Frenchie is amazing. Funny, and yet he has these moments where the cracks bleed through. Especially after he is made first mate. So good.

Fang is breaking my flicking heart. He has been with Ed even longer than Izzy.

The Kraken. When I first saw the spoilers especially Izzy scene that was sent out I was worried they would not be able to balance how bad he was with his emotional core, but boy was I wrong. Taika Waititi paints this hopeless sorrow that you can feel. He is so funny when it's called for but he is truly beautiful just him, the camera, and his expressions.

ED AND IZZY. WHAT! YOU HAVE LOVE FOR HIM! WHAT! In my wildest dreams I never thought they would go in so hard with these two so fast. I remember reading angsty fic about their dynamic and thinking " they would never make it this dark." Actually the " take off your boot" scene is so traumatic/sad/slight sexy 🫠 😳 😔 . I am screaming. I knew Con and Taika had chemistry but they are so good together, their scenes are electric.

Stede Bonnet you beautiful bastard. I love that everyone keeps thinking he is stalling for fear of being killed but the truth is he doesn't want his hope for reconciliation dashed. What everyone warning him away doesn't understand is that he is a man who is experiencing breath-stealing, soul binding love for the first time in middle age. His devotion to Ed is unmarred by what he has done.

Spanish Jackie as always is amazing. Her use of "husband" is similar to Nandor (WWDITS). Her getting Swede is great too. I love Leslie Jones. Only issue is because the episode is so full you could almost take the Olu and Zheng storyline and put that over the Jackie bits or vis versa.

Prince Ricky...I am not convinced. So far he just seems like he has all of Stede worst traits. If he is going to be the big bad this season it's going to have to be some big twist.

Overall I loved the episode. I am so looking forward to more time with my pirates and I NEED more Izzy.

Barely remembers Elwing; does not remember Eärendil at all. Goes back and forth over the years between blaming Maedhros and Maglor, the Valar, Elwing and Eärendil, and himself for that. Sometimes he wonders if he's forgetting Elros, too, and mixing him up with his various descendants. Did Elros love strawberries, or was that just Aldarion? Elros liked sleeping in like Celepharn did, right? Especially as time goes on and he's one of the last people left to really remember Elros, the doubts start creeping in.

☆ - happy headcanon

Makes a point to visit Celebrimbor regularly, nominally to make sure he isn't working on anything too dangerous or shiny,* but mostly because Elrond likes getting to be an Annoying Little Brother, and Celebrimbor likes indulging him. All shiny and sparkly things belong to Elrond in accordance with Bird Law which is definitely real and not something he made up to justify why Celebrimbor should give him jewelry. Narvi claims the ravens agree that's what Bird Law says; Celebrimbor has his doubts.

☠ - angry/violent headcanon

Doesn't get angry all that often, but when he does it's pretty scary. He is, after all, a Finwëan, and just because he's on the chill end of the spectrum doesn't mean he doesn't have the deep-seated belief that he could kill a god if he tried hard enough, or the willingness to try. Also, Maedhros taught him a few intimidation techniques.

Very much inclined to absolute adoration, which is a family trait on all sides. Celebrían finds it charming that her husband will sometimes just stop what he's doing to watch her going about her day.

After Sirion, the Fëanorians really didn't have enough people to hold Amon Ereb anymore, so Maedhros and Maglor led them first south to Taur-im-Duinath and then went to Belegost when it became clear that the forest wasn't safe enough as the War of Wrath began, so Elrond spent part of his childhood raised among the Nandor and a part of his adolescence with dwarves. (He was considered tall by the Nandor and especially by the dwarves, but Maedhros assured him that he was a much more normal height among the Noldor. Then Elrond grew another half-foot and arrived in Gil-galad's camp very definitely the tallest person there.)

aaaaand FINALLY I've finished writing up my next few recs for the Summer @ficreadingchallenge :'DDD Most of these I read weeks ago when I was especially tired and just wanted to lie down and listen to some podfics, as you'll see below~ But I'm still going! I got sooo close to finishing a line this time (and I WOULD HAVE if I hadn't swapped around the squares for some of these hahaha) and if possible I want to complete a full blackout! n.n

A couple of prompt-related rambles: 'Enemies to Friends / Lovers' is highlighted buuut I actually later decided to use that fic for 'Future AU' so. Oh well :') I also swapped a fic from Domestic to Gift Giving even though gifts aren't the main focus because I was having trouble with that square and the gifts ARE still a pretty big part of the fic so??? who cares hahaha. Also somehow I've gotten this far using a different pairing for every single square and I was absolutely tempted to try to continue that, and am knocking myself out of it because I just want to encourage myself to read fic, not force myself into a pretzel trying to track down rarepair fics that SHOULD exist SOMEWHERE......

This is a super fascinating fic and a great example of one of my favourite genres: crack treated seriously! In this one, the music videos exist in-universe and the prisoners (plus Es) will watch them all, reacting and responding in-character. I love how committed the author is to this premise: some of the characters would rather forget all this stuff is even happening, while others (most notably Kotoko) fully intend to learn all they can about the other prisoners from them. It’s still early days, but I can’t wait to see how they all react differently, and what (correct or incorrect!) conclusions they come to! (Also, maybe it seems strange to use an AU fic for the tag ‘Canon Compliant’, but the fic is sticking to the canonically-chosen verdicts which is why it counts!)

Fic With No Comments Yet

Choosing podfics for the ‘No Comments Yet’ category almost feels like cheating heh, but these very important fan works deserve just as much love!!! This is an adorable fic: stories where the characters’ friends/family ‘ship them’ can be corny and OOC, but I love that Fred and George initially just want to give Oliver something to care about other than Quidditch training, and have no clue the cogs they started working in Oliver’s head until they’re ready for that last push. And I love Oliver and Percy’s relationship: not quite close, comfortable friends, but more like very different people who’ve spent a lot of time together and never quite taken the plunge in becoming fixtures of one another’s life – yet. <3

Hurt/Comfort

Fics that perfectly capture the absurd black humour of this show are always a treat and this fic is no exception! One of the tags is ‘canon-typical sex talk’ and hoo BOY is that accurate haha, but beneath the characteristic horniness and always-at-least-mild insufferability, Nandor really is just a pathetic sad little vampire, and the degree of care Guillermo has for him – and how much Nandor trusts him in return – is so sweet!

I’m still dipping my toes into Wyll/Astarion fanfic, but this was a very nice introduction!! Despite focusing on Astarion’s trauma around sex, it also gets a bit into Wyll’s complicated relationship with it as well, in a way that totally makes sense for them! I can 100% see these two dumbasses having a miscommunication like this, doing something they both don’t like just because they think it’ll make the other happy :’D

Future AU

This is such a sweet fic, and I can totally imagine these two’s relationship going this way post-canon!! By the end of the game they’d both need some time before they’d really be ready to be in a relationship, and though short I totally love how the friendship builds enough here for them to do that! <3

Gift Giving

I absolutely love and 100% recommend this entire series of RJK fics – they capture the characters and their relationship absolutely perfectly, and the familial interactions ring so true! I particularly loved Roy’s complicated relationship to the holidays; feeling troubled by his own lack of enthusiasm towards what should be ‘his’ celebrations, and only realising in retrospect that he really had enjoyed his time taking part in it all with his partners. Despite being longer than all the other fics I’ve recced here so far, the time absolutely blazed by, because it all flowed so smoothly and once I started reading I didn’t want to stop! <3

Time Travel

Ugh, this fic hits so hard. :( With its succinct writing we really get a sense of how hard Sirius tries, over and over, to save everyone. It’s almost like poetry – especially at the end, which really made me cry!! ;__;

What We Do in the Shadows: Local News (5x05)

Okay, this was pretty hilarious.

Cons:

The thing about Guillermo's slow vampire transition this season is that it does blunt some of the comedy impact of him being a vampire in the first place. I sort of wish there had been a more dramatic contrast between human Guillermo and vampire Guillermo. It's almost like instead of setup and punchline, it's setup and then very long, meandering journey towards a destination we've already been told about. That's not to say I don't enjoy some of the things about said journey, but I don't know. I guess I'm just hoping we'll see Guillermo get his transformative moment to shine.

Oh, and, same note as always on the Guide: there's nothing wrong with her, but she seems like she could lift right out of the story without being missed at all. Sorry!

Pros:

I did like Guillermo's scenes overall, I love the solemnity mixed with irritation mixed with comedy, as Guillermo wants to say a goodbye to his mother since once he's fully a vampire, their connection is no longer safe. And yet family squabbles, and distracting news broadcasts showing Nandor and the others getting into all sorts of trouble, mean that Guillermo can't have the solemn moment he wants with his mother. When he finally does get it, her first question is if the change happening in his life is making him happy. She reminds him that it's normal to feel some doubt during a big transition.

It was such a sweet moment from her perspective, having no idea what's really going on. And it was so fraught from Guillermo's, as his mother literally burns his skin by putting a cross on him, replacing the one that she believes he has "lost".

And then back at home, the plot with the vampires is pure chaotic comedy gold. Nandor is on the local news, talking about a water main breakage on the street. He accidentally makes comments about how they've been living there for centuries, which means: oh no! The secret is out. Everybody knows about vampires now. They all decide the only thing to do is to make a stand and fight. They also think if they can get back in front of the cameras, they can hypnotize mention of the truth away from all the viewers.

It all devolves into utter chaos from there, with the vampires setting up booby traps, making plans to flee, to kidnap, to murder... eventually ending up on the local news to try and thwart mention of their vampiric abilities. They hypnotize everyone to make them forget, but then basically have to act out being the news anchors so as not to confuse any humans watching. All rendered especially comedic when you realize that the human newscaster hadn't thought anything at all of Nandor's original comments.

There were too many funny moments to mention in this whole thing, but to pull just a few of my favorites, I loved "Nandor the Relentless" being misheard as "Nandor De Laurentis". I loved Colin immediately going berserker and tearing the house up to prepare for battle. I loved Lazlo being indignant that Guillermo "hung up on him" when in fact Colin had cut the phone line, and I loved the comedy of Nandor and Lazlo discussing how big a bag was needed for their kidnap/murder victim while Guillermo tries to dissuade them over the phone.

I'm also liking the continued trend this season of Nandor really missing Guillermo, noticing he's not around as much, and feeling resentful and sad about it. When Guillermo finally does show up to help, Nandor basically says they don't need him, and Guillermo, in a fit of pique, does in fact refuse to help. They get out of their messy chaos on their own. It's interesting that Nandor knows that something's up; I wonder what the reaction will be when he finds out what it is! I'm so excited to see.

So there you have it. This wasn't one of my all-time favorite episodes but I did think the hilarity and chaos got delightfully insane!

Hey anyone else sad as hell that after everything, they are setting up Nandor and The Guide to be end game for the show?

I just… I think that especially as we’ve watched Nandor become more canonically queer throughout the show, the idea of having him end up in a straight relationship is just sad :(. Obviously the canon queer representation within the show and canon queer relationships that have happened (past tense) in the show are very important and valid, but why not end the show with at least one queer relationship ?

What a delightful ask! There are absolutely songs I associate with them in Taylor's body of work! Thank you for giving me this opportunity to gush about it!

In the interest of not going WAY overboard (there are SO many songs where I could relate just a line or two, but those lines really HIT), here are 13 songs that scream Nandermo (Taylor's Version) to me, and a little about why for each song/the line(s) that really sealed it for me.

tolerate it - Just sad Memo hours. Pay attention to him, Nandor! Show him some appreciation! I listen to this and just picture Nandor reading while Guillermo tries to talk to him, Nandor rebuffing Guillermo's attempts at hugs, Nandor saying "not you Guilermo" and taking all his hard work as a familiar for granted. The bridge of this one KILLS me when I imagine it coming from Guillermo.

You're Losing Me (From The Vault) - More sad Memo hours. I've been trying to make a whole fanvid to this for months now, but I keep getting stuck on what clips to use for some parts and I can't look at it anymore. The whole song being underlined by/referencing heartbeats definitely contributed a lot to this pick lol.

Would've, Could've, Should've - Yet more sad Memo hours. There's quite a lot of that on my Nandermo TV, unfortunately. :((( The religious imagery, the reference to being 19 (around when Memo and Nandor would've first met), the themes of loss of faith/loss of innocence/corruption. Oof.

Let's Go (Battle) - That's right, some unreleased songs made it on here! But would it even be a Nandermo playlist without a reference to their fights? This one is Memo, not eager to use his slayer powers against Nandor, but more than willing if Nandor pushes him too far/doesn't give him another choice. "We had it all but you couldn't keep a promise" also fits rather well, unfortunately.

Cold As You - Alas, sad Memo hours once more. I promise some of these are from Nandor's perspective. "You put up walls and paint them all a shade of gray / and I stood there loving you and wished them all away / And you come away with a great little story / of a mess of a dreamer with the nerve to adore you." This one always makes me think of Guillermo begging Nandor not to leave for the Wellness Center or go into Super Slumber. :((

Haunted (Taylor's Version) - You'd think this would be all Memo to Nandor, but no. This is both of them throughout seasons 4 and 5. If I had to parse it out, I'd say verse 1 is Nandor during season 4/5, second verse is Guillermo during season 4 especially, and the bridge is Nandor when he's processing that Guillermo was turned by someone else (that awful moment when he's like "a vampire...who was not...me?").

The Last Time (feat. Gary Lightbody) (Taylor's Version) - Guillermo when he's making one last-ditch effort to communicate with Nandor before he goes off to get Derek to turn him at the end of season 4.

Bad Blood (Taylor's Version) - Nandor's period of vengeful brooding once he realizes that Guillermo was turned by someone other than him. I actually have TWO versions of this song on my Nandermo playlist on Spotify, neither of which is the original artist lol. I love the original, I just wanted a different vibe for that playlist. But on Nandermo TV it's obviously gotta be Taylor's Version!

I'd Lie - Another unreleased song! This is really both of them, because they both deny how much they mean to each other at various points in the story. Not every lyric fits perfectly, but the ones that don't can be handwaved so easily (Nadja is like a sister to Nandor, right? Basically? And Nandor's favorite color may not be green but Guillermo wears it all the damn time, so it could easily be his).

You All Over Me (feat. Marren Morris) (From The Vault) - Both of them about each other. They just can't untangle themselves, can they? Every time Guillermo leaves, he ends up right back by Nandor's side as soon as Nandor calls. And every time Nandor swears he's going to go do something different, he ends up back with Memo. Even though neither of them are getting exactly what they want from the other, even though it's like death by a thousand cuts (heh), they'd rather have less than they want than nothing at all.

So It Goes... - They're so messy and obsessy and what is this if not the messy obsessy love/lust song? "I'm so chill but you make me jealous. But I got your heart skip-skipping when I'm gone." "You did a number on me, but honestly baby who's counting? / I did a number on you, but honestly baby who's counting?" In-fucking-deed!

Afterglow - Nandor trying to reach out to Guillermo and mend the rift between them for ALL OF SEASON 5!!! (I'm still not over it.) "It's so excruciating to see you low / just wanna lift you up and not let you go / this ultraviolet morning light below / tells me this love is worth the fight."

Daylight - This will be theirs when Nandor finally gets his shit together and figures out that missing his humanity and being lonely are part and parcel of the same thing and, frankly, have the same antidote of being honest about his feelings and letting the person who's been there this whole time finally get close. "I've been sleeping so long in a 20-year dark night / now I'm wide awake / and now I see daylight." "I once believed love would be burning red / but it's golden like daylight."

BONUS TRACKS (because you know our girl loves a bonus track!)

Foolish One (Taylor's Version) (From The Vault) - This one ALMOST made the cut, but for the lyric "he just wasn't the one." This playlist was already so Sad Memo Hours heavy, and also I believe Nandor IS the one for Guillermo. They just need to figure it out.

I Knew You Were Trouble (Taylor's Version) - Now it's angry Memo hours! Some thoughts during the Freddie-Marwa debacle, I think. "And the saddest thought / comes creeping in / that you never loved me, or her, or anyone / or anything."

Keep forgetting What We Do in the Shadows is on tonight

The tonal whiplash and lack of a flowing plot this season is just fucking ruining it for me

Like two total episodes this season have been good and related to the previous season while everything else has just been random shock humor shit which I don’t like especially as an adult now. Like I wanted to love the last episode but so many shitty episodes have happened this season I just don’t give a fuck anymore.

Nandor hunched over Guillermo sobbing would have gutted me during season four, but Nandor has barely fucking been around this season and has had even less interactions with Guillermo then there’s episodes where Guillermo is there little to none at all so I have no reason anymore to feel sad seeing him terrified like that….like I hate they want to choose silly humor over a plot because this show really had such good fucking potential

Bringing back "Laszlo raising Colin" for absolutely no reason other than for a throwaway punchline. *slow clap*

I am begging these writers to give Nadja some consistent writing for at least one goddamn episode! She's hanging onto the Baron's cape pleading with him to spare Guillermo BUT when she's actually faced with presumably his dead corpse, she doesn't give a fraction of a fuck. At least she didn't bitch-slap him to oblivion like last time, but oh my god!

I love Kristen Schaal but it's just sad how useless the Guide has been this season.

So all in all, I did enjoy it and thought most of the emotional moments worked, but it's not without flaws. Nowhere near as frustrating as Urgent Care (or "wow, yep, this is the worst episode" as Night Market) but still has some lazy, eye-rolling writing issues.

2023 TV Show Roundup

All my hyperfixations released a new season this year, so here is a ranking / brief review of each. Starting with the best and going to worst.

1 - Lupin Zero

When they first announced a miniseries of Lupin III as a kid, I had low expectations. That doubt only increased when they said kid Jigen was going to be in the show too. All the previous lore had Lupin and Jigen meeting as adults. I also always headcanoned Lupin as having a bad/lonely childhood so this messed with that. But then the show was really good, cute, and fun. Now I love the idea that Lupin and Jigen have always been together, and the first thing Lupin stole was Jigens heart??!! Oh my heart. Also, this is a minor thing, but they actually show Lupin’s grandpa being bisexual. I never expected this series to even acknowledge that men can be bisexual especially one so close to Lupin.

2 - What We Do in the Shadows Season 5

Last season when the gang was going to spilt up, Guillermo said that they couldn’t because they are a family and that bugged me, because in season 4 the gang did not feel like a family. HOWEVER, season 5 changed that. In this season it feels like the characters care about each other. Not just because they show how the vampires are willing to help and protect Guillermo, but also the smaller moments of the gang helping each other. My fav episode is Urgent Care. Between Nadja and Guillermo saving each other and Nandor helping Collin Robinson, it was good stuff.

3 - Loki Season 2

I did not finish season one, but I love Owen Wilson and Tom Hiddleson, so I gave the show another chance, not expecting to finish it. To my genuine surprise, this season was really good to the point where I would rewatch it. Very scifi. Love this cast, especially the inclusion of Ke Huy Quan.  Lots of Lokius moments. THE SADDEST ENDING, but they left it kind of open so there’s hope. The sad ending did not kill my enjoyment of the show… unlike the next two.

4 - Good Omens Season 2

Love seeing Crowley and Aziraphale back, but this season was disappointing. It felt like nothing happened until the last episode. Idk maybe when season 3 comes out some of this will matter. It doesn't sit right with me to have a season of filler and then push how next time something big will happen.

5 - Our Flag Means Death Season 2

I was with it for the first three episodes. I think the 30-minute runtime really hurt the show and pacing. Although, it’s so weird that WWDitS has the same runtime and can tell complete funny stories in each episode. The critique I have has already been said. They killed my favorite character in the worst way, so I don’t know if I will be watching season 3.
