I’ve been saying tomgreg endgame as sort of a joke but Tom and Shiv fuckin hate hate each other now and Shiv’s taking their unborn child to the pub and Gerri girlbossedly rolls her eyes at Roman when he boo hoos at his father’s funeral and Kendall’s going fully Saturday morning cartoon evil now and idk Stewy’s like dead or smthing but Greg’s loyal to the bitter end even when he doesn’t need to be and Tom’s trying to let him go for Greg’s safety but Greg won’t let him like……………

tbh one of the things that makes me think that roman might kill himself is i feel like the show's just gonna give everyone the worst, most tragic, pyrrhic victory ending and i feel like roman's death would do that. 'cause right now he's really the glue holding the family together. he’s the one who most wants them to be a family and is actively trying to get them to be one and he’s the one who genuinely keeps reaching out. and, like. he's kendall and shiv's partner and he’s their teammate but he's also their co-conspirator when they're working against the other and he’s their go-between and kendall and shiv will also unite to work against him and he's the main point of contact with connor and the one to stand up for him when kendall and shiv want to exclude him. he's the center point of those connections. he’s the heart. and if roman dies, and if he does so in a way where they'd likely not only blame themselves but each other as well (and especially because they did in some way contribute to roman’s declining mental health for their own professional benefit, which is kind of already happening), i can see that irrevocably splintering the family in a way that logan's death hasn't. and i feel like something as tragic as that is what the show'll end up doing. (especially if the business side of all their lives does actually end up going well. like, maybe they’ll all to varying degrees ‘win’ but at what cost and was it really worth it in the end?) (it wasn’t but now it’s too late to go back.)

I personally think in lifeboats that Logan grabbed shiv’s hand because he thought she was someone one else, probably Marcia, and I think that means he probably did the same thing to Marcia and I do think Marcia was trying to be so aggressively firm w Shiv to make sure nothing happened to her. Because Marcia while no saint, has no desire to be mean to anyone except if she’s mad and feels wronged which is pretty fucking normal. And has her own daughter, and only let shiv go up after shiv invaded her privacy illegally. So yeah I think if shiv hadn’t jumped the gun maybe she could’ve had a woman in her life who cared about her.

What's interesting about witnessing the shift in Tom and Shiv's relationship, is that for the first 3 seasons Shiv got to live in comfort of being her father in the relationship. She was in control. She was the emotionally detached one, keeping Tom at a distance from her inner vulnerable self like her father does to her and her siblings, despite Tom always appealing to that side of her, bearing himself and wanting that intimacy. She held all the power, and in holding all the power she felt secure that she wasn't going to be screwed over (like her dad did to her mum) and abandoned (like she felt her mum did to her). She could escape the fucked up divorce her parents had by being the embodiment of power (her father),,, which, like a lot of children of a messy divorce, she wanted to avoid such a thing for herself at all cost, and pride herself on her marriage and choice of partner instead of getting help for the trauma and damage she'd carried since childhood. Shiv was safe. She was secure. Like her dad, she had her own dog to kick to test its loyalty and feel secure and reassured every time that dog came back to her side.

But then the dog did bite back. Tom did betray her. The man she viewed as beneath her, all worshipping, and in her eyes nowhere near as smart as her, outplayed her and betrayed her and won over the approval of the very man that she'd been emulating. And now she's not her father. She's the last person she ever wanted to be. She's her mother. She's the one on the receiving end of Logan through Tom, making the divorce messy and difficult and painful by using the same tactics he did with her mother, something that gets to her easily and makes her extremely upset to the point where she's verging on tears. Tom is the one at Waystar + ATN. Tom is the one saying "uh huh." To her.

She thought that she could escape her mother's fate by being her father. By being cold and distant and emotionally closed off. By being the one who kicked the dog. She let her trauma and fears rule and guide her into making decisions and behaving in harmful ways (to Tom and herself) that she thought would protect her and never let her be hurt. And none of it worked. Because despite it all, she became her mother.

logan (still to this day acts like shiv is just his little girl so you know he was such a fucking freak about shiv not wanting to wear her hair in pigtails anymore, absolutely the type of guy to love to pointing out how much /prettier/ she looked with long hair)

caroline (endlessly resentful of the way shiv was always daddy's little girl, matching hair color a reminder that just ensured from birth that caroline would never manage to be normal about shivs hair in any way ever. and you know how mothers are about their daughters hair)

it's weird, i dont know if we can say exactly that everything that will happen post-succession finale can be extrapolated as it's all a cycle and thus all things we've seen before, because the defining difference this time is the absence of logan and the kids' essential expulsion from the business around which they orbited their entire lives. but to think of the uncertainty and the unknown makes me feel ill so in my head they're all going to austerlitz this week just as they did after the vote of no confidence and they're bonding and having an actually successful family therapy moment because logan is no longer there

i find the idea that mencken shaking kendall's hand at the funeral was oh so significant to be so funny, though, because like. that's not even how their next scene plays out? like, mencken very obviously did not like kendall at all lol. his disdain for him was so clear. he didn't like that kendall thought he had any right to give him any input on what he says and does ("oh, i thought you were the sound system. now you wanna choose the track?") and he told kendall that he was only going to 'try' to help with the deal but he did so in way that sounded like he wasn't going to try to do anything for him at all.
