also the fact that criston cole made such a HUGE deal about how he ~broke his oath~ by sleeping with rhaenyra to where he almost deleted himself rather than be a "whore" to the queen *gasp*. and flash forward years later to becoming exactly that - an oathbraker and the whore to the queen once again, is actually comedy gold

I found this scene in particular so odd and out of place in the new episode. Apart from the fact that Stolas has no right to be angry at Blitz for "not saving him" when Striker kidnapped him nor to be upset that he didn't tell him about Striker's attempt at shooting him. In Loo Loo Land he's perfectly capable of defending himself (even when he hired Blitz for protection!), why is he complaining that an imp, the lowest class on the hierarchy isn't protecting one of the highest?
In that scene Stolas accuses Blitz of not understanding "how much he cared about him", but has he forgotten that he was the one who couldn't stand up not to Asmodeous nor to the accusations of him "sleeping with an imp"?
This reaction shows the actual opposite of what he's telling Blitz he did.
I read that Stolas is supposedly also not aware of ~things~ but why is the narrative conveniently forgetting about his faults as well?
Onto the "apology tour" subject: I fail to understand why Blitz owes Stolas an apology. The only time he was shitty to him was actually in Ozzie's when he asked him on a (fake) date without telling him all the story. But they didn't talk about that not during that episode neither during Apology Tour. Is it because doing this would have forced the narrative to acknowledge that also Stolas was at fault during that episode?
All the other times they interacted (on and off screen, their chats don't really mean anything since it seems that's the way Blitz writes in general), Blitz was being good to him (not that he had any other choice, due to their society ranks and their deal).
To me, this looks like bad writing. But if someone has a different take, I'm happy to hear their interpretation.
#helluva boss critical#helluva boss criticism#anti stolitz#stolitz critical#vivziepop critical#my first post on this critical tag...... wow..... i guess i can't escape my destiny#but since i liked the series during s1 i hope to get proved wrong actually????#i read a post about apology tour on my feed from a person i know saying omg stolas is so meee#and im like omg i do not want to interact with this person never again stolas was kind of toxic and manipulative in that ep#his words reminded me of what my ex used to tell me#can't you see how much i show you that i love you????#then proceded not to even send a small message of congratulations when i majored in my study course#he said that congratulating me would have made him “deeply uncomfortable” because he didn't major yet#when stolas said “youre making me uncomfortable” i was like wow i am triggered lmao

the fact that you start the Tabris origin by literally stepping into your mother's shoes. the fact that what you get is a wedding outfit and your mother's worn boots, kept carefully intact for years, tucked away for this exact moment. the fact that you then immediately take the path she never could, leaving behind the alienage and the wedding and following Duncan (who would have recruited Adaia first, if not for baby!Tabris) to what ought to have been death.
And Then!! instead of fighting and falling as she did, cheating death and becoming the fighter she always intended you to be instead??? Reliving and simultaneously subverting the story of her life??
#okay no i'm not done actually#the way it feels like destiny for you to die on the alienage's behalf (soris is still in the dungeons in other origins when you get there)#and not only is that fate averted by duncan's presence#but what feels like the fate laid out for you by adaia's death is shifted too#this makes the ultimate sacrifice ending so much more awful imo#because it almost feels like a final destination-esque reckoning#you thought you escaped? no. this city will eat your bones and spit out a golden savior#who tabris actually *is* was always irrelevant and i am!!!#eating this#excuse me i am just writing baby arianwen and adaia right now and i am Feeling Things#i just!!! her boots!! is anyone listening? is this thing on?? her *boots*!#*buries face in crossed arms and sobs*#dixeram#dao#tabris origin#warden tabris#arianwen tabris#adaia tabris#oh shit oh god i just realized also#you free adaia from the dungeon in leliana's song right#and then in turn escape from the same dungeon#and when imprisoned at drakon's rise you break free from that too?#now it's tastier if you free yourself from the dungeon but#the possibility of leliana freeing you from there as well?? not the same dungeon but the same danger??? ouch. ouch!

Elenaks, the Scarab
I was going to color it before sharing but it's been hours already and I'm tired :(
Elenaks was a Devil Baron during the Dark Ages and earned his moniker for his habit of dropping the beetle-like Walker Tanks smack in the middle of human settlements during his raids. I even made his cape reminiscent to a beetle's elytra. He's a part of my personal project to flesh out the Salvation Elites.
I've fleshed out like 4 of them and now I'm just moving to designing. I love them all so so much. I've gaslit myself into believing they're canon and no one can stop me.
#destiny 2#destiny#eliksni#destiny fanart#absolutely terrifying battle tactic tbh#like as a dark age human youre completely fucked in that scenario#you only have like 10 seconds before the minigun spins up and the main cannon is already trained on another home#even if you do escape the shanks it deploys are already tracking you down to finish the job

playing fallout 3 for the first time means oscillating between "this is a really fun game and is reminding me why i love fallout" and "this is the worst thing anybody has ever written"
#im not going in totally blind to be fair. i know the major story beats#this is your destiny i would not rob you of that etc etc. liam neeson dying etc etc#some of the minor details that im experiencing for myself tho are like. either pretty neat or abominably stupid#the family!! is DUMB!!#why cant you tell dad the entire vault went to shit after he left and u needed to escape with your life!!#why does amata kick you out again!! for a reference to fo1? yea real clever#i liked vault 106(?) tho. charon is an interesting companion#wish the game invited u to explore the morality of you having his contract but i can just chew on that myself ig#i will fix these things in my brain by imagining things very hard

I know you're tired of me talking nonstop and i know i've stated before that Coldplay isn't my cup of tea (which is true) BUT that obviously doesn't include Viva la Vida aka humanity's anthem the only song ever emotions in the form of a song
anyways
Viva la Vida is literally Paul's song... i never paid much attention to the lyrics but the way it fits stupid Paul's life.... oh my god. I could make a playlist with all the (often questionable) songs i've associated with Paul and Alia just this year. i don't know why but as time passes i'm more and more obsessed with these characters, i've been into Dune for three years now and i feel like the fixation is getting stronger each day instead of fading away
#dune#it's about his awareness of being a tyrant!!! him wanting to escape from the inevitable future he has shaped for himself#and the people he loves!!!!#paul is quite literally the definition of a character with no morals you can't feel sorry for#and yet him trying to justify his actions and being all philosophical abt his destiny etc idk something about it is so fascinating!!!#i'm like hell yes your suffering brings me so much entertainment! keep up the good work!!

Deep breath. Steeples fingers. It’s the way Arthur never needed to know Merlin was part of his destiny to be on his side over and OVER again
#merlin#they’re a true have your cake and eat it too ship#on the one side merlin who feels the full weight and pull of a destiny he can’t escape#that he chooses to run towards with open arms#on the other side Arthur#who has NO obligation to merlin except the one he feels and creates for himself#opens the forbidden ‘what if merlin….was good’ book#do you think about how often kilgarrah talks about them as EQUALS#two sides of the same coin. two souls meant to be one.#but merlin always ALWAYS ALWAYS casts himself as lesser#he sees their joint destiny as one where he is subservient to Arthur#less important#he is constantly willing to die for Arthur’s sake and he TRULY THINKS IT DOESN’T MATTER#merlin is constantly of the view that if he dies so Arthur can live that is *fulfilling their destiny*#what a cruel trick the end of their story is#but that’s my point kinda: merlin never actually understood their destiny#that’s why he fails the test and mordred survives#because he tells Arthur magic can never be allowed in Camelot bc he is too busy trying to save Arthur to save himself#and as a result he gets it wrong#if you look at the whole show but s5 especially as a tragedy the arc is absolutely classical#meanwhile Arthur never knows about FUCKING ANY OF THIS#and yet and yet and yet#call it destiny or love he still finds his partner in merlin. the other half of his soul.#he never needed to know what they were supposed to be to see what they could be

sams first arc and basically everything that happened to s3 being about azazel wanting him as a Leader vs sam in s14-15 forced to be a Leader (also people both telling him hes bad for the job AND that hes made for this) and all of his people then dying. no point to this except that i think its interesting
#cant escape your destiny/everything circling back to the beginning/failing what you were “chosen” for/people putting the pressure back on#-you after you thought you defeated that#etc etc etc#WHATEVER.

playing as Ayala's sister Saya in Destiny was a galaxy brained idea
i've decided that she would repaint her armor to be Black and Gold and Red (Justice and Vengeance and Honoring a Parent) while still keeping a hint of blue to honor Ayala and her armor color :)
#the backstory is that Saya in D2 is an AU in which she escapes capture by Raandall at Ayala's pleading#and at some point during her escape she encounters an Ahamkara (whether she realizes it or not)#and makes a desperate off-handed wish that she had the ability to save Ayala and her clan from the empire#the Ahamkara grants her wish and teleports her to the Destiny side of the universe#she is now surrounded by people with superhuman strength and supernatural powers that could help her take on the Empire and free her clan#but the inevitable trade-off as with Ahamkara wishes is that she has no way to get back and no way to utilize these resources :)#oc: Saya Ger'Mana#destiny#cassie plays destiny 2#anyway yes i am insane and everything i touch turns to mandos#gosh it was quinn who gave me the idea for the Ahamkara wish wording: i grant your wish for sharper teeth O Warrior Mine#AU: Destiny Mandos#mando'ade

What if you two were brothers-in-law? What do you think about that?
Hector: Well, that's impossible on my part. I am an only child.
Isaac, narrowing his eyes: Mh? Hector marrying in my family...? *grin* And why would he, when I am right here?
Hector, with a smirk: Are you saying you're planning on getting married?
Isaac: Sure! And perhaps Lord Dracula can officiate the wedding! Hahahahaha!
#ask hector and isaac#isaactor#dodged that by a hair isaac#you can't escape your destiny. hector will become your brother-in-law. sorry he prefers your sister to you

ok but the disir is such a good episode though....
#it's not even in the imbd top 10 rated episodes... 😔#I love the disir and the drawing of the dark#it's partly because I'm obsessed with merlin and mordred's dynamic#partly because they're pivotal episodes in the overarching narrative#but also - and don't take this too seriously bc it's 2am#something about archetypes and themes that go back to the greek tragedies#the disir is about human hubris and trying to escape destiny and defying the gods#and being punished for your arrogance#and in the drawing of the dark... the self-fullfiling prophecy#oedipal stuff (not in the freudian sense)#the whole series is about this of course#but these two eps... that's literally what they're all about#do you know what I mean#bc I'm not sure I know what I mean#ramblings

Warning- this is a very petty post, but I think I'm entitled to at least one petty, pissed-off reaction every time I finish a classic novel that hit harder than I expected so take this as my quota for the year.
Also spoiler warning for a book that came out over a century ago but still, I didn't know the plot going in so don't want to ruin it for anyone else, if you haven't read it shut your eyes. (Also Local Tumblr User Going Wild Over Book Published a Hundred Years Ago That Everybody Else Already Read should probably be categorised as akey part of indigenous tumblr culture at this point).
Anyway I just finished the War of the Worlds and in between studying I've thinking about Themes and Motifs as you do, and idly looking for further analysis. I then accidentally ran into an article called 'A Quiet Place II Succeeds Where the War of the Worlds Failed' and:
Now I haven't seen any of the Quiet Place films, this is not a rant against them and of course everyone is entitled to their own opinions. But re: the ending of The War of the Worlds, I have to ask, did this guy somehow miss, uh, the entire point of the book or am I just utterly insane?
#You're right it's not very satisfying for humanity that the invaders are foiled by a bacteria and not human action! Maybe that's the point!#Maybe it's supposed to be FRIGHTENING and make you ask questions about what humans will do under extreme stress#Not be a morally uplifting tale about Humanity Heroically Defeating the Martians in a Glorious Hollywood Ending#Maybe it's MEANT to be unsatisfying because this is not a straightforward fairytale#I mean I've only read it once and don't know much about Wells' work so I might have misunderstood the point of the book too#But at places it is a very pessimistic view of the human condition and that's partly WHY IT'S SO POWERFUL#That doesn't mean there aren't moments of individual acts of heroism (the Thunderchild for example)#But the question is not just 'how will humanity beat the Martians and prove that we're still the masters of the universe'#Rather 'a) why is humanity so confident that it's ultimately in control of its own destiny#And b) here's lots of scenes of societal collapse and of people pushed to the brink and what would YOU do in those circumstances?#Would YOU feel remorse about silencing the curate even if it did lead to his death?#What if it rather than a foolish adult it had been a small child?#And even if they were weak did they DESERVE it? Yes it might have been necessary but should it be policy going forward?#Would you also be attracted briefly by the certainties that the artilleryman's (rather fascist) plan seems to offer so humanity survives?#But what sort of humanity would that be if it DID survive and is it worth it? The narrator feels he needs to justify the curate's death#The artilleryman would have probably never have thought it was anything OTHER than justifiable or indeed laudable#Under strain and stress would you start to turn against even your loved ones and become brutal?#Is that the only hope for human survival beyond complete surrender? And was the destruction of London maybe even 'cleansing'#In the eugenics sense or in the sense of a natural horror of dirt and germs?#And the vast exodus of six million people fleeing headlong in panic - we might not have seen that exact phenomenon#But didn't the twentieth century subsequently go on to show us unprecedented scale of slaughter and refugee movements and communal strife?#At the end of the day what really separates humanity from other animals? And what separates us from the Martians?#It's not an uncontroversial book- it was written over a hundred years ago for goodness sake and there are questions worth asking#about the way imperialism and arguments about eugenics and population control and all sorts of other dodgy areas operated on Wells' mind#But dear God I really don't think the problem with the book is that 'Humanity didn't save the day!'#Unsatisfying ending? Yes. A FAILURE? No not in my opinion- looks like it was exactly what Wells set out to do#Humanity didn't win the war of the worlds they had a narrow escape and though it might not be martians next time#Why wouldn't disaster return in the future? Sure we've studied their flying machines and even preserved a martian in a jar#But for all our science what have we ACTUALLY learned that will enable us to avert future human catastrophes? Ethically or socially?#Alright rant over- as usual my opinion is not universal nor necessarily well-informed this take just really got my goat
