TODAY IS THE DAY!

Finally, the crossover I’ve been waiting for all my life!! My two main hyperfixations unite!! Well, not exactly, but close enough!

Today Detective Conan volume 103 was published and, as every other Conan volume, it had a “featured detective” personally recommended by the author.

LOOK AT HIM!

Professor Layton in the Conan style! I never though I’d see this ever!!

It’s fun that he uses the New World of Steam design, given that he announced he had this drawing done before the Vision, so this means he got it from the Nintendo Direct. It’s 2023 and Gosho Aoyama got the design of Professor Layton from the anouncement of a new game, pinch me rn, I’m dreaming. I swear I’m dreaming.

Anyways, I have translated Aoyama’s full recommendation down below! Enjoy! :D

When speaking of hard cases*, strange mysteries are bound to follow. Let me introduce you to Professor Layton, the reliable** puzzle-solving genius! Hershel Layton is a true English gentleman with a penchant for tea and a trademark silk hat. He is a renowned archaeologist, but also an "expert on mystery investigation", having solved several cases with his assistant, a boy named Luke. No matter the situation, he is always calm and collected. With his keen eye for observation, his erudition and his flashes of inspiration, there is no mystery*** he cannot solve. Even in the face of danger, he manages to pull himself out of it with the fencing skills he learnt when he was a student! Incidentally, the game series in which he is the main character has such a large volume of puzzles that the actor who voices him, Yo Oizumi, said that he couldn't progress in the story because the puzzle-solving got in the way. I really want my Conan to try out this game, too (lol). (I recommend “Professor Layton and the Curious Village”).

*Here Aoyama uses an structure that sounds a bit like the one the Professor uses when saying “Speaking of ???, that reminds me of a puzzle”.

** Reliable is precisely the adjective Claire uses in a scene at the end of UF, you know the one AND I’M HAVING FEELINGS. Yes Luke uses it too when posing as Clark and I’m sure may other characters as well but. I have feelings.

***mystery and puzzle sound the same in japanese so this is also “there’s no puzzle he can’t solve”.

I WOULD LOVE TO SEE CONAN PLAYING LAYTON. In fact, I would probably die. I LOVE THEM BOTH SO MUCH!!

may i offer my humble opinion of solomon as a galaxy ranger? & michael as one of the remnants of order?

Now that sounds interesting +_+ ! Of course I can't help but draw Luke and Simeon as Halovians too!

Ohoho and Michael as one of the remnants of order? Sign me up cuz that man has been so sus for so long I need to see his face (⁠‘⁠◉⁠⌓⁠◉⁠’⁠)! Haven't heard anything from "Father" for too long I wonder if it would be the same case as Ena? I haven't caught up with Nightbringer...

I think Simeon would be on the same level as Sunday or Robin (scale V) within the Family. If I remember correctly, he would be eligible as the Chordmaster of the Harmonious Choir.

While I personally think Solomon would be more likely to follow the path of Erudition and be associated with the Genius Society instead, him being a galaxy ranger sounds like fun!

Imagine Solomon finding out MC (who is a fellow galaxy ranger) passing away this way. The idea is surely interesting to play around.

Bonus the paths that I think everyone in OM would follow lore-wise and gameplay-wise. I forgot about Voracity when I did this but lore-wise Beel following Voracity seems possible.

TIME TO LOVE STEPHANIE BROWN aka SPOILER

She deserves JUSTICE!

Greek Goddesses! Another character that earned a love post from me, she needs the love, she DESERVES to be loved 💜💜💜 (spoiler alert, this post will be a loooooooooong 😅 )

I found out about her and other characters thanks to the wholesome slice of life comic Batman: family Wayne adventures months ago (I've been a DC Batman fan since I was a kid but I mostly watched shows that didn't include said characters before starting with the comics) and I fell in love with her, I mean she is all purple and her hero name is SPOILER 💘 so she could jump on criminals and say things like: SPOILER ALERT YOU'RE ABOUT TO GET BUSTED 👊😂 HELLO? INSTANT LOVE 💘and then I searched for her, read a lot of comics... and learned SOOO many outrageous things!🤬 Welcome to Hypocrisyland 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️. Here comes the RANT:

So she was an independent girl who made herself the Spoiler persona to "spoil" her wannabe Riddle father's evil deeds and she was a bit morally gray and cynical and wasn't particularly trying to be a hero or a vigilante and then after meeting Robin she started to change her mind inspired by HIM so all her thing started completely separated from Batman and technically it was by associating herself with Tim/Robin that at some point she started to want Batman's approval too and started the whole "fight to prove that I deserve a place here" thing but I think the amount of disrespect this girl faced is ridiculous! Treated like she was hopeless, useless, stupid etc... is she a punching bag? Treated like shit by so many characters for no good reason 😡 and I didn't see any satisfying consequence on them because of it, it was as if the way they treated her was justified because... I don't know, she was compared to Jason, to Dick, to Tim and to Barbara but when is only about her own person she wasn't good enough so they were hysterical about her hurting herself or dying faster than any of them 🙄, so everything is justified because they were worried?

Sorry but NO, I don't care if she isn't as skillful as characters like Cassandra or Damian that were raised to be living killing weapons by assassins or that she isn't intelligent genius detective level with a rich live background that could afford special ttraining like Tim or Batman himself, that she isn't some erudite engineer to build herself taser weapons like Harper Row or a suit flying armor like Luke Fox, that she doesn't have military training like Kate Kane, that she doesn't have hacker skills or a cop dad as Barbara Gordon, or she doesn't have powers like Duke or wasn't trained by ninjas like Selina Kyle or that she started only having good grades at gymnastics instead of having been raised in a circus by acrobats like Dick Grayson... I DON'T CARE, because she had a lot of qualities to start from Zero to Hero that are probably a lot more relatable than the other characters, most people don't have third rate criminal fathers but still she is a lot closer to the normal people than other characters and that makes her great, she is so resourceful even thought that unlike Batman and Tim she comes from poverty and can't get high tech stuff, yet she made herself a costume and helped take down her criminal father in a low budget! How come her resourceness in her situation wasn't impressive to them? How come that she had to endure being dismissed and underestimated constantly over and over until her death? It was exhausting to see! The fact that she started being resentful towards her father and wanted more revenge than justice is enough to ditch her as a hero? (Maybe the Avengers would have welcomed her better in that case 🙄) How much she had to train until the writers stopped making her look unfit and unworthy despite everything?

I don't get why they decided to make everyone around her be an asshole, a jerk, a hypocrite... Specially Tim and Batman (the AUDACITY of these two! Batman "fired" Her from being Spoiler like she being Spoiler had anything to do with him in the first place, entitlement much? Robin mantle I get it but The Spoiler mantle was hers from the beginning he can't fire her from it and then Tim went to comfort her, ironic since he kept telling her to hang the suit all the time, he also said being a Teen Titan was out her league when she was offered a place and told her she can't speak for herself, seriously you fucking jerk? Does he think he is Dick Grayson or what? 😒 the entitlement is spreading! and later when he became Red Robin he DEMANDED her to never be Spoiler again... Oh FUCK YOU 🖕🤬, mister "I discovered your secret so now you have to hire me as Robin" Worse part of that is that he said that after finding out things she was doing on Batman's orders wtf? So is bad always no matter if she disobeys or obeys Batman she can't win) They even made my dear Alfred be cold with at first because "she hurt Tim" but it was actually Batman's fault because he told her his secret 😤 well at least that treatment didn't last, bless Alfred for crying after her death when Dick asked about her and being so happy to see her alive he lose his British.

Why they hated her so much to the point they just doomed her to a horrible death that wasn't even heroic? She was tortured for days after provoking a gang war following one of Batman's plans trying to gain his trust back after he fired her from being his Robin for only 2 months! 🤬 2 miserable months!! because she disobeyed him (sure, sure, no other Robin BEFORE and AFTER her has ever disobeyed Bats orders right? 🙄) and the last person she sees before dying is him who was always comparing her to her male predecessors because he didn't like she was more questioning than them and then lied to her dying face about considering her a real Robin (by the way it felt so wrong that she became Robin out of spite because she saw a girl kissing Tim and she assumed he was cheating... I mean I can't blame her he did CHEAT on his first girlfriend with her, boy I hate this kind of teen drama) . They said it was "unclear" If he was telling the truth, HA! PLEASE. 🙄Of course he is not going to tell the ugly truth to a dying girl (he even "insulted" Her once saying she fights like a girl, wtf? She should have tell on him to Dinah lance) The ones who should have been there were Cassandra and Tim they actually did considered her a Robin, yep even Tim (he even mentioned a few positive things about her time being Robin) after he retook the mantle, they at least loved her! Even if they wronged her at least there was no doubt that they loved her... (Even if Tim's grief for her was short and too dry! 😡, They wanted people to forget about her so hard he was already having new love interests when not even a year passed, he suffered a lot more with his father and Superboy's death than with Stephanie 🤬, at least Cass cried and dreamed about her and thankfully Alfred and Barbara cried for her too even when they weren't that close to her at that time) Because seriously, this was a pitiful sad death, not bothering in making it a sacrifice or falling on combat saving someone noooo, she died after making a huge mistake trying to impress someone who never actually seemed to like her at all! In a gruesome and kinda sexualized way, nobody came to rescue her... Batman only showed up to pick her up after she escaped alone and tell her pretty lies before dying.

What a fucking Joke 🤦‍♀️ how humiliating for a character with a hell lot of potential WASTED! She didn't even get a memorial in the Batcave like Jason! Both their deaths were meant to be permanent but the comics only wanted you to remember Jason but not about Stephanie! Like he never existed! (And later the lame excuse for it🙄, like Batman suspected she wasn't really dead but he didn't tell Tim or Cass about that suspicion? None of them confronted him about the lack of memorial of her? Wouldn't they demand a memorial of a girl that meant a lot to them? He suspected she was alive but he never care to find her?🙄😑 Talk about crappy, tacky writing) it's like the character was thrown like garbage... Indeed that's what they intended to, her death was supposed to be permanent but fortunately for us fans rioted to demand her return very rightfully! 😤 and... Her return was still rushed, lame and lazy 😒 and they forgot to add a LOT of characters reactions seeing her alive 🤦‍♀️, like not even Cass??? I searched and never found a comic with her reaction after finding out she was alive! All out of camera, I hate that, is just so TACKY! Not an epic death and not proper comeback 😬😬

But then we had her run as the third Batgirl! Her solo as Batgirl did a lot of good for her character, with the exception of a few things I disliked like: her interaction with Catwoman that didn't make sense with how they met in the gangs war or that once again Batman has to have all the credit 🙄 because at the end he comes back from a not actual death and it turns out the whole make her a Batgirl was his doing and not Cassandra's doing😑 that would have been better because later they could rub it on his face but they couldn't because it was his idea 😬 but hey at least she got to SLAP him 🤣👏👏 that was epic BRAVO! Ahh that solo lasted too little! She got to put Tim in his place, she became friends with Supergirl and bonded with Damian as a big sister, I swear she should have spent more time with them, she demonstrated her bravery and willpower when she kicked the Scarecrow ass, finally earning Barbara's respect and admiration after she was so bitchy with her, its always so satisfying seeing characters standing up for her after so much mistreatment (i guess she had mixed feelings with the fact that Stephanie is a Batgirl that resembles more to her, Dick also mentioned that and thankfully he stopped being a jerk hypocrite with her too) and did I a mention that she FUCKING SLAPPED BATMAN? Because that is extremely important 😂 and Alfred defended her calling Bruce out in his bullshit test. Then for some stupid out of the blue reason she retired for a year... AFTER ALL SHE WENT THROUGH TO EARN THAT MANTLE? 🤬🤬🤬. Anyway she had to take the mantle back because she was chosen for some tournament where she had to fight Catman and there was Tim again looking down on her 🙄 "why weren't we chosen Cass we are better fighters she is a year out of shape" (Yeah who the fuck decided to make her hang the cape after everything? 🤡) at least Cass defended her saying that she is unpredictable, not like when they were training (Steph was still death) and out of the blue she unnecessarily tells him "you learn fast not like my last student" Really? I recall you enjoying training her 🙄 Sure Cassandra cried and dreamed of her but she used to look down on her a lot, the way she knocked her out in after being fired from being Robin was something we never see her apologize for, it was swept under the rug like never happened, Steph never confronted her about it even though she left her feeling betrayed 🤦‍♀️ and then besties again like nothing 😒. But at least she punched Tim for being an imbecile and then they got together again, so lovely, so happy, she was finally getting respect... BOOM: the new 52 reboot happened. 😃😃

The only thing I liked was that she got triple nunchakus as a personal weapon and that way she doesn't copy Robin's stick and the fact that she went through teen pregnancy and had to give up the baby because I hated that lazy plot that was only meant to make her and Tim have a closer relationship is not canon anymore(they really couldn't think of anything else to deepen their relationship than making her go through that pain so he could support her?😒🤦‍♀️ besides, she had a traumatic sexual assault experience as a child so I find hard to believe she would let herself get pregnant with the scumbag she dated before Tim, I hard to believe she didn't dumped him until he abandoned her in the earthquake) but her origin and relationship with Tim was erased along her time as Robin and as Batgirl(even thought that somehow thankfully now is canon again)and other character named Harper basically took a bit of Steph and Cassandra stories, mixed them and made them her own... pretty lame because Harper's concept was actually cool but she taking their place wasn't cool she also was the one to befriend Cassandra and had a conection with her first instead of Steph and the one who had to fight to be allowed to be a vigilante by Batman instead of her and she was the one that convinced Steph to join the fight instead of Steph wanting to do it by herself but the thing that infuriates me the most in this reboot was that she was accepted into the batfamily without much problem but altmost inmidiatly they made her go against them and againts Batman that this time wasn't being an asshole to her due to the apparent death of Tim Drake, Batman was even being affectionate with her, that hug he gave her to comfort her was precious 🥺 and so satisfying to see but then they had to ruin everything by making her be unreasonable and insufferable to create cheap drama 🤦‍♀️, now that she got the only thing she wanted pre reboot they make her want to walk away?🤡🤡🤡 not to mention I was already pissed of that in her solo as Batgirl they forgot what kind of interaction she had with Catwoman, basically Selina was the last person who was sweet and kind to her before she was killed, it would have been nice to see a proper reaction to her come back but the reboot made things worse! Selina was bitchy and mean to Steph even if she gave her some acknowledgement to her talent but she refused to grant my wish of training her and instead she was trained by the second Catwoman that honesty was disappointed but not that bad because I will like any character that would want to help Steph and Eiko (2° Catwoman) took her in for a while and bothered to teach her something so KUDOS 👍 for her! And Cassandra, Dinah and Barbara too.

And well I'm going to stop the rant here because aside of Tim dumping her and treating her shitty for no reason when they were finally happy so he could be with a random background NPC boy nobody cared about or even remembered so he could prove his bisexuality 😑😑😑, in general things are finally getting good for her: she is finally fully recognized as a Robin and she got another solo with Cassandra and Barbara as Batgirls that wasn't as good as the first one but it was nice and apparently she is now going to have her own team of young superheroes in a new comic.

I wanted to make an statement about things I like about her, the need to make her interact with other characters I think she would get along and my new Ship with her and Jason but all that will have their owns individual posts because I already wrote too much here, if you read it all thank you so much 🙏🙏🙏❤❤ if you felt offended or disagreed with something I said I apologize but remember that this is just the random opinion of a random Tumblr user so... “What would you chose then?! Abnegation is perfect and calm why would you want anything else!” She raised her voice at you, she never has before, “I’m sorry it’s just what would you choose?”

“I just want to see what my test says, we leave in minutes whatever it says I will most likely choose but if it’s Abnegation I won’t, mom this life I have here is boring and not for me something else will fit me, I know it.”

“Well you must get going, your brothers calling you.” You nod at your mother and walk towards the door.

“I love you mom” She says it back then you and your brother head out.

You are on your way home and your mind is scrambling, your divergent. Your brother didn’t tell you his results, but you didn’t plan on telling anybody your results anyway the lady who took your test told you not too or lie about your results. Tomorrow you chose where you would go, you knew you didn’t want a boring life so tomorrow when you choose it will be adventurous.

It’s the next day and you and your brother are nervous for the day. Your family walk in and take seats at the ceremony on choosing and they do there little peach and you roll your eyes. They start calling names. It’s goes a while before they call your brothers name “Luke Y/L/N”

You knew you were next, you watched your brother choose and he chose Erudite, “smart ass” you mumble.

“Y/n Y/l/n” You get up and your mom squeezes your hand as you leave your seat. You get down to the bottom and look at your options. You grab the knife and cut yourself then drop your blood into dauntless. Your parents gasped, but you didn’t care and you walked over to your “new people”.

The choosing was over and all of dauntless ran out and you followed with them, cause you are now one of them. You run out and climb up to the train tracks and you have to jump on the train. “Well shit” you mumbled as you watch the train come and this girl Christina was next to you from Candor.

“True that, how the hell am I gonna jump on this” Christina said.

“Well we’re dauntless now I don’t think we have a choice unless you want to be factionless.” You said too her as the train in getting real close and you jump on without a thought. Christina followed you cause I don’t think her being factionless was her idea of a life. It wasn’t to anybody.

You are on the train and it takes a while before you notice the people getting ready and standing up so you do as well, then they jump out onto the roof of a building. “I’m guessing this is a good preview of what dauntless is gonna be like” you say right before you say screw it and jump out of the train, luckily you had a pretty good landing and didn’t hurt anything. After you land everyone huddles up around the edge of the roof where a huge hole is.

“So who’s jumping first?” Everyone but the dauntless born were a little shocked. You raised your hand.

“I’ll do it”you said without thinking twice. Some laughed behind you.

“A stiff jumping give me a break” Some ass Peter said from Candor. You ignored his comment and got up on the ledge and looked at the drop.

“You gonna jump or what we don’t have all day” one of the dauntless leaders said. And you jumped, landed on a net, you thought it was actually pretty fun. Then you feel the net move and somebody grabbing you, he is beautiful but is face is stone cold as he grabs you and takes you off the net.

“What you get pushed?” He said judging your outfit seeing your from amity.

“No” You said with an annoyed tone.

“Name?” He said.

“Y/n” You said.

“First jumper Y/n! Welcome to Dauntless Y/n” He said with a smirk.

Everyone else eventually jumped and got down here and they sent all born dauntless away since the already know the way around. “Most of the time I work in intelligence but during your training I’ll be your instructor, my names Four.”

“Four, like the number?” Christina said.

“Exactly like the number”. He said calmly.

“What happened 1-3 were taken?” Christina said with a chuckle.

You could tell he was annoyed with Christina, “What’s your name?”

“Christina” She said.

“Well Christina, the first lesson you learn from me is if you want to survive here, keep your mouth shut.” He said will a cold face a stern tone. “Do you understand me?”

“Yes sir” Christina said.

“Good, Follow me” Four gives you all a tour. And your life at dauntless begins.

SAINT OF THE DAY (October 18)

On October 18, Catholics and other Christians around the world will celebrate the feast of St. Luke, the physician and companion of St. Paul whose gospel preserved the most extensive biography of Jesus Christ.

St. Luke wrote a greater volume of the New Testament than any other single author, including the earliest history of the Church.

Ancient traditions also acknowledge Luke as the founder of Christian iconography, making him a patron of artists, as well as doctors and other medical caregivers.

Luke came from the large metropolitan city of Antioch, a part of modern-day Turkey.

In Luke's lifetime, his native city emerged as an important center of early Christianity.

During the future saint's early years, the city's port had already become a cultural center, renowned for arts and sciences.

Historians do not know whether Luke came to Christianity from Judaism or paganism, although there are strong suggestions that Luke was a gentile convert.

Educated as a physician in the Greek-speaking city, Luke was among the most cultured and cosmopolitan members of the early Church.

Scholars of archeology and ancient literature have ranked him among the top historians of his time period, besides noting the outstanding Greek prose style and technical accuracy of his accounts of Christ's life and the apostles' missionary journeys.

Other students of biblical history adduce from Luke's writings that he was the only evangelist to incorporate the personal testimony of the Blessed Virgin Mary, whose role in Christ's life emerges most clearly in his gospel.

Tradition credits him with painting several icons of Christ's mother, and one of the sacred portraits ascribed to him — known by the title “Salvation of the Roman People” — survives to this day in the Basilica of St. Mary Major.

Some traditions hold that Luke became a direct disciple of Jesus before his ascension, while others hold that he became a believer only afterward.

After St. Paul's conversion, Luke accompanied him as his personal physician and, in effect, as a kind of biographer, since the journeys of Paul on which Luke accompanied him occupy a large portion of the Acts of the Apostles.

Luke probably wrote this text, the final narrative portion of the New Testament, in the city of Rome where the account ends.

Luke was also among the only companions of Paul who did not abandon him during his final imprisonment and death in Rome.

After the martyrdom of St. Paul in the year 67, St. Luke is said to have preached elsewhere throughout the Mediterranean and possibly died as a martyr. However, even tradition is unclear on this point.

Fittingly, the evangelist whose travels and erudition could have filled volumes wrote just enough to proclaim the gospel and apostolic preaching to the world.

I just read some post to remind that Aemond choke Lucerys after claiming Vhagar. So, i have an idea: "What if Aemond lost and eye but Luke lose his voice?"

Imagine that Aemond choke him so hard. That his last words were "My father still alive!", and then, when they were all occupied asking Aemond about where he listens the rumours, after Rhaenyra and Alicent's dagger confrontation, after Aemond saying "may i lost and eye, but i gain a dragon", Jace whisper tho his brother, but Luke only cough. He seems horrofied, and so is Rhaenyra when she finds out that her sweet Luke can't talk. Maesters later told her that it would heal.

But it doesn't.

Luke can't talk.

That's the last thing Aemond heard about his nephew, until now, when Vaemond wants to claim Driftmark for himself and Rhaenyra and Daemon's children come to defend Lucerys.

Aemond is with Ser Criston, training. He saw them, and said "Nephews, have you come to train?". He saw Rhaenyra protecting Lucerys.

The dinner it was awkward, and when Viserys cheers for Luke, the boy stand from his chair. Everyone looked at him. He looks at Jace, and start to do something with his hands, his mouth articulating. "I'm honored, Grandsire, for your words. And i want to thank you for stand for our family as you always do", said Jace for his little brother.

Aemond saw Otto trying to hide his smile. A broken child, how he would be Lord of the Tide without saying a word?

And just imagine, that Aemond it's so curious and so obsessed with Lucerys that didn't make an scene. So, The Blacks stays.

Thanks to Helaena, he learn that Lucerys was totally voiceless. That Daemo brings an erudit from Essos who knows sign language. And Luke knows common and high valyrian.

And if Aemond wasn't just jealous enough, he thought that the boy can't ride his dragon without the commands. But it seems that the bond between Luke and Arrax it's so strong, that they can understand without words.

That's not fair.

Not fair that Heleane let him be with Jaehaerys and Jaehaera, who are too fond of how Luke communicates.

Not fair that Daemon brings a master for his foster child and the other children learned for him.

Not fair that his fathers it's so fascinated with Luke's hands.

It's...It's...why Luke's hands are so gentle when he signs? Why are so delicate? Is it because he doesn't use a sword? Why are Luke's hands so exposed to everyone?

Why are hi hands so...pretty?

Jedi In Divergent Factions

I got bored so I decided to make this. Brief overview of factions:

Dauntless: Brave

Abnegation: Selfless

Erudite: Intellectual 

Candor: Honest

Amity: Peaceful 

Anakin Skywalker: Dauntless. That one was kind of obvious really but generally he’s also selfless (pre revenge of the sith of course).

Obi Wan Kenobi: Amity. He’s literally known as the negotiator. But he could also be abnegation I think.

Ahsoka Tano: Dauntless or Abnegation. Like Anakin she’s brave but she is also one of the most selfless Star Wars characters. 

Rey: Abnegation. Needs no explanation. 

Ki Adi Mundi: Erudite. I just think its true.

Mace Windu: Dauntless. If I had to name one character braver than Anakin then it would be Mace. 

Plo Koon: Abnegation. Just from the interactions with his clone troopers.

Aayla Secura: Amity. I base this on my bias against her after she didn’t even fight back during Order 66. But she is better in the clone wars. 

Kit Fisto:  Erudite or Candor. Can’t explain it, he just would be. 

Yoda: Erudite. He’s wise so that counts.

Qui Gonn Jinn: Dauntless or Candor. More than likely Candor.

Luke Skywalker: Divergent. I can’t fit him into just one faction but if he had to be then it would be Dauntless like his father.

Chapter 6

The cafeteria is louder than any room I've ever been in. No matter the fact that Amity is known for being talkative, we were never like this, so uninhibited.

"Where should we sit?" Clare asks, eyes scanning the room. Most of the tables around us seem to be full, leaving only two options, try and sit in with the dauntless born who - despite the kindness of Kai - seem more inclined to bite us than their food, or to cram in next to Eric. He sits with only one other person but the table remains empty besides them.

I nod my head at the leader and start walking forward, looks like this is our best bet.

Owen and Clare reach the table first, taking seats next to the other man, leaving me to sit next to Eric. My arm brushes his jacket as I sit and it sends a small shiver down my spine.

I can feel their conversation stop at our intrusion but pay them no mind as I begin loading up a plate.

Some of the food I recognize, basic fruits and vegetables, but others I've never seen before. With hesitant fingers I pinch at the circular slab of meat and place it onto my tray, it seems foreign among the rest of my plant based meal.

"What, have you never seen a hamburger before?" The man asks, he smiles at me and I can't tell if I should be embarrassed.

"Uh, no." I shake my head, grabbing a fork and knife to cut it with. "Amity is mainly vegetarian unless you raise the animal yourself, but even then we tend to keep them as pets before..." I glance at the man again, his head tilted as if interested. His hair, chin length and a dirty kind of blonde, hangs sideways.

"What?" I question, confused at his stare.

"Nothing, it's just not every day that we get an Amity transfer around here."

"Try 47 years." Clare pipes up mid bite.

"It's been that long?" I ask, feeling more nervous than I was moments ago.

She nods, "And even then they didn't make it, it's actually undocumented how long it's been since a person has successfully made the transition."

I sit down my fork and knife and stare at her in shock.

The man whistles and stares at me again, this time as if I'm a specimen.

"Well then I'll just have to be the first documented." I say, straightening my back and looking back down at my meal. I'm about to pick up my fork when a calloused hand stops me.

"You don't need that." Eric mutters from beside me, his voice deep. He reaches around me and my tray, gathering random items; a bun, pickles, a red sauce, and onions. He stacks them all together before setting it down for me.

I look up to see his eyes already on my face, his gaze intense.

"Try it." He motions with a hand.

Picking it up with too hands, I lean forward, sniffing slightly before taking a bite. My eyes close as flavor explodes in my mouth and I stifle back a moan.

"This.." I try and chew as quickly as I can so I'm able to speak. "Is absolutely amazing." I smile wide.

He merely smirks at me before turning back to his friend, saying something, and rising from his seat. Before he walks away fully he looks down at me.

"Glad you like it, Sunflower."

I mean to respond but he's already too far from the table for me to speak by the time my mouth catches up to my brain.

"So let me guess," the man pipes up again, leaving me to shake off the feeling that had came over me. "Amity," he nods to me exaggeratedly as if it was completely obvious, "Erudite," he points at Clare with his fork, "and Abnegation?" He signals at Owen, the only one he seems to be hesitant on.

"That was pretty good." Clare comments a smile pulling on her lips.

"Candor?" I ask looking at him, speaking in between bites of my hamburger. He gives me a shocked expression but nods in confirmations.

"How'd you guess?" He seems genuinely surprised. I can only shrug at his, going for my drink.

"You're the best at perception, always trying to pick up on people's ticks. Doesn't surprise me that you'd be able to read us that well." Owen gives me a confused look from his end of the table and I explain myself.

"Amity has you take classes on the relations and values of other factions. They always said it was to be sure not to offend them when we came in contact. They called the class 'Knowing Your Friends." I finished with a small laugh, thinking about how odd I thought the experience was at the time, only for it to come in handy now.

"Sounds about like Amity," Clare says joining in with me laughing.

"I'm Luke, by the way, before you somehow guess that too." He smirks at me and extends his hand. I take it, slightly less awkwardly than I had earlier.

"Violet." I respond, giving him a smile. "And that's Clare and Owen."

"Nice to meet you." He says, beginning to look off into the distance, as if bracing for something.

Suddenly an alarm goes off, a short burst of three blaring rings making a few people jump but most just raise their heads to a catwalk that hangs many feet in the air.

"Initiates, stand." A man with deep skin and greying hair calls and we all follow his orders. "I'm Max, a leader here. You have chosen the warrior faction, tasked with the defense of this city and all its inhabitants. We believe in ordinary acts of bravery. In the courage that drives one man to stand up for another. We believe that pain and death are better than inaction." He pauses, glancing around the room and I can feel my heart pounding in my chest as his stare catches on me for a moment before moving on.

"Respect that. Be brave. Do us proud." He finishes and the crowd is moved from near silence into roaring cheers. People pound their cups on tables, their hands together, their feet against the ground. Anything to make noise.

I can't help but feel their unrelenting power flow through me and I smile wider than I have in years. A true smile. I let a cheer out and feel as people grab my body, lifting me to be carried by the crowd. I'm gripped by my clothing, and as I'm passed over from hand to hand I feel a sense of unity like no other.

This is family, not the forced niceties of Amity.

Not the forced smiles.

Unity is the deafening noise of a faction who won't just lay down and die.

They will fight. I will fight.

I am home.

SAINT OF THE DAY (October 18)

On October 18, Catholics and other Christians around the world will celebrate the Feast of St. Luke, the physician and companion of St. Paul whose gospel preserved the most extensive biography of Jesus Christ.

St. Luke wrote a greater volume of the New Testament than any other single author, including the earliest history of the Church.

Ancient traditions also acknowledge Luke as the founder of Christian iconography, making him a patron of artists as well as doctors and other medical caregivers.

Luke came from the large metropolitan city of Antioch, a part of modern-day Turkey.

In Luke's lifetime, his native city emerged as an important center of early Christianity.

During the future saint's early years, the city's port had already become a cultural center, renowned for arts and sciences.

Historians do not know whether Luke came to Christianity from Judaism or paganism, although there are strong suggestions that Luke was a gentile convert.

Educated as a physician in the Greek-speaking city, Luke was among the most cultured and cosmopolitan members of the early Church.

Scholars of archeology and ancient literature have ranked him among the top historians of his time period, besides noting the outstanding Greek prose style and technical accuracy of his accounts of Christ's life and the apostles' missionary journeys.

Other students of biblical history adduce from Luke's writings that he was the only evangelist to incorporate the personal testimony of the Blessed Virgin Mary, whose role in Christ's life emerges most clearly in his gospel.

Tradition credits him with painting several icons of Christ's mother.

One of the sacred portraits ascribed to him — known by the title “Salvation of the Roman People” — survives to this day in the Basilica of St. Mary Major.

Some traditions hold that Luke became a direct disciple of Jesus before his ascension, while others hold that he became a believer only afterward.

After St. Paul's conversion, Luke accompanied him as his personal physician and, in effect, as a kind of biographer, since the journeys of Paul on which Luke accompanied him occupy a large portion of the Acts of the Apostles.

Luke probably wrote this text, the final narrative portion of the New Testament, in the city of Rome where the account ends.

Luke was also among the only companions of Paul who did not abandon him during his final imprisonment and death in Rome.

After the martyrdom of St. Paul in the year 67, St. Luke is said to have preached elsewhere throughout the Mediterranean and possibly died as a martyr.

However, even tradition is unclear on this point.

Fittingly, the evangelist whose travels and erudition could have filled volumes, wrote just enough to proclaim the gospel and apostolic preaching to the world.
