Unrecommending A Cosmology of Monsters by Shaun Hamill because it takes an interesting setup (the protag's family has been haunted by appearances of a monster, which is quickly followed by Misfortune of some sort befalling them, and the main character breaking the cycle by embracing the monster as a child before he knows any better and actually befriending it) and bashing anything interesting about said premise to death with a brick (the monster is also a Hot Woman sometimes and has sex multiple times with the main character when he's an adult, it turns out there are other monsters who all serve an Eldritch entity who feeds on human suffering but the one the protag fucks is the only Good One because the protag reminded her of her lost humanity), leaving you in a state where you aren't exactly sure what the Themes of the story even ARE by the time you finish it
This sounds like one of those stories where I'd start rooting for the eldritch abomination out of spite by the time I was halfway through it, yeah.
('the token good/redeemable monster is coincidentally the sexy conventionally feminine woman-looking one the protagonist can/does fuck' really shouldn't be common enough to be this much of a pet peeve, and yet)

is it Shallow Graves by Kali Wallace?
YA novel, pub 2016, teen girl gets murdered during a party but comes back to life, now able to see (know) if someone else has killed before, which she uses to hunt down predatory men while trying to figure out who killed her
Aaaaaaa pain and suffering
We have unearthed memories of a pretty interesting book we read around 5-10 years ago and the only search result for what we remember is a reddit post about someone asking for the same book that doesnt have the correct answerrrrr
Anyway if anyone read a 2010s ya novel where the main character was a teenage girl who had been murdered and came back as a revenant and remember the name please let us know

In Homestuck, real human characters like Guy Fieri and the ICP were generally background characters who appeared only in flashbacks. What made you decide to make the real human (troll?) characters like Weird Al and Hulk Hogan in VE have much more visible roles?
mainly due to the fact that it was funny, but if you want to dive a little deeper i believe the use of celebrities as worship and chaos gods as more than just simple jokes really fits into repiton’s corporate culture

We wrote a thing about a girl who may or may not be sad, but definitely isn't showing it
THE "HALF A YEAR OF CHUM" GIVEAWAY
Tumblr media Tumblr media
With the release of Chapter 62 ("Ten Grays") and the end of Arc/Book 4 ("Exorcism"), I can now safely say that I have definitely released about half a year of Chum. Actually, double checking, 180 days ago was 9 days after the first chapter of Chum, so, yes. Half a year!
Writing Chum has been one of the most exhausting and rewarding experiences of my life, and I was that dude that wrote a single Homestuck ficlet a day, iirc of at least 1000 words, for 365 days (it was awful, don't seek it out). But it's all worth it for the opportunity to bring the dreams and ideas I've had locked in my head for more than half my life to life, in one way or another, and the reception Chum has received (for the most part) has only made me even excited to share Samantha Small's journey with you.
So I'm giving the joy back.
My Christmas bonus finally went through the other day and I'm not in dire financial straits. And I like giveaways. I'm not doing much else with the money besides meds and food anyway. So, here are the rules, they are very simple.
#1 - Reblog this post (technically optional but appreciated nonetheless) #2 - Create some Fan Media (extremely nebulous) about Chum. If you have not actually read Chum, first, why not, secondly, you should do that. #3 - Reblog this post with your Fan Media attached and Me Tagged or I will not know that you entered. #4 - In a month (February 13th 2024) I will pick a couple of winners. The person who made my favorite thing will earn $200. The person who made my second favorite thing will earn $100. If the Chumcord deems it so then they can nominate some honorable mentions that may receive smaller minor prizes, assuming we have, like, more than three entries to begin with. The more people that enter the more minor prizes I can justify spending money on.
Alright, that's all! It's 6 AM so I'm going to bed now.
Don't forget! Teeth teeth teeth teeth teeth blood blood blood. Good night!

We're ust weighing the odds of "Avery dies" (makes a lot of people angry for bury your gays reasons, especially after Ward) vs the odds of "Avery uses Mother Mari's free healthcare to survive but is changed as a result in a way that will make her relationship with an Innocent Nora nigh impossible" (heart wrenching, will possibly make Verona jealous)
We know which side we come down on
So that's probably still not going to happen imo (my bet is on some trickery with Snowdrop and glamor), but it IS much more plausible, and still terrifying!

@eromancery wrote this first part
Throughout the galaxy, there are many examples of independent civilizations coming up with the same idea at the same time. The Gorgnaxians, for instance, invented the portable fruit squeezer at the exact same time as the Birflortians.
But the species known as Humans, on the Planet known as "earth" have two inventions that are completely unique to them, that no other civilization in the history of the universe has created: Extended Warranties for microwave ovens, and clowns. Arthur Dent was not looking to purchase either of these items.  Unfortunately for him, fate cares not about your shopping list, and on one fateful tuesday, he found himself in possession of several microwave warranties, and two clowns.
@an-actual-stone wrote the rest of this
Through some circumstance or another, Arthur Dent found himself in the middle of a room sized time travel machine. An attempt by the Chromagnopians to get an edge on the galactic spaceship race betting games. All Arthur had to do was blip a decade into the future, record the outcomes of the last few games, and come back to the present with this handheld device. Arthur was never one to play such games of luck, but he does admit this sounds like a solid plan. Standing in the time room glancing at the Chromagnopian scientists, brinkman, researchers, and bookies peering in from the thick glass observation rooms. With a thumbs up, Arthur Dent is sent into the future.
Arthur felt a roiling lurch in what might have been either his brain, stomach, or right kidney as he stumbled back to his feet. He saw he was in the same room, if the time machine room was always covered in sand and an open skylight built in the shape of a blasted out hull was always there. Out of the room the rest of the Chromagnopian Experimental Research Lab and Casino Betting Palace was in a similar state of disarray. No one was present, all the machinery busted. Outside the sky which once held a perfectly reasonable white dwarf star now had a gaudy supernovae. Arthur considered this a bust, and withdrew the simple device he was given earlier. with just a press he will be whisked back to the past and he'll just give the Chromagnopians fabricated results
however, when Arthur reached the present, he is still standing inside the time machine. With a horrified moan, just as instantly as he got back, he is sent to the dusty future all over again. Repeated attempts just led to Arthur experiencing lurching roils and roiling lurches in most of his various organs. Arthur set to find anything in the future Research labs to help him. A room labeled *Terraforming Solutions* had a big FAILURE carved into its door, of which Arthur entered as he felt it was rightfully calling to him. inside, he finds an oblong device that looks like a vacuum cleaner got lost in a gunsmith's factory. activating it proved successful, sucking in more sand than it looked like it should be able to hold. He vacuumed up much of the sand and rocks that have gotten into the partially entombed facility and gambling ring. any marauders who might still be alive would be confused as to why the place looked spotless. the terraforming tool full to bursting, Arthur got the rewind device out and prepared the terraforming tool. As soon as he felt he was back in the past, Arthur pressed a button on the vacuum gun that looked a bit like a mushroom cloud. Concurrently, the time machine's implements were glowing aimed at Arthur. an endless wave of sand erupted from the machine as the implements fired. Arthur was shielded by the material he hoovered up. Sand was being shuttled off to the future in Arthur's place, and more sand kept coming out of the device to replace the lost sand. By this point the Chromagnopians have reacted promptly, and turned the machine off. When Arthur no longer heard the *bwoop bwoop bwoop*s of the time machine, he shut off the terraforming tool. "Well?" the  combined head scientist and gambling leader of the Chromagnopians ordered. "Do you have the data to the next revelations in our betting scheme?" Arthur Dent coughed up silica and dust. "Dont bet on it"
Had a dream i went to an antique watch shop. The cost of them hovering around 3000 dollars. I decided not to get a watch. But i noticed this nice foot tall clown statuette on the windowsill. The proprietor was confused, but decided it was alright to sell me it for 3 dollars. Then he realized on a cabinet behind him was the matching clown statuette that goes with it. But he didn't care about them so it was still only 3 dollars for the set.
Next i was Arthur dent of hitchhikers guide to the galaxy on a space ship. He kept getting sent to the far future where no one is alive anymore. If he tries to use the device to go back to the past he just ends up being near instantly sent forward. What i as arthur decided is i picked up this terraforming gun tool and proceeded to strip mine the environment and fill up the gun with as much resources as possible. A landslide covered cave entrance was revealed containing a brute of a monster, like a pig shaped deathclaw. But i teleported back in time. With the terraforming gun i sprayed land and water in the time machine destroying it.
