Read in 2023:
Gwen had no doubt that whoever he was, his ancestors had absolutely once stared down the business end of guillotine. You don't get cheekbones like that without oppressing some peasants.

review:
this is a very high 3.5 stars btw!!
trigger warnings: none what i liked — ☆ okay this was actually so cute, i didn't think i was going to enjoy it as much as i did! the setting and the vibes are immaculate actually ☆ i liked vivi so much. she's a good main character, and i also liked rhys which is very interesting that i ended up enjoying both the mcs. usually i like one and think the other is stupid lol. ☆ sir purrcival i would DIE FOR YOU!!!! ☆ i liked the mystery of it too. it was super cosy and fun. ☆ but mostly i just like that the smut is very limited in this book. it's there and still it's not overpowering, the perfect balance (aka, barely there, and if it's there, it's done super quickly) what i didn't like — ★ i thought the main characters went from exes to sleeping together so quick. i wish it was a little more gradual than it was in the book because like one second she was internally cursing him and the next she's fucking him. ★ whatever happened to his betrothed???? did i just miss the part where he explains it?? imagine vivi goes back to wales with him and he's still betrothed lmao wouldn't that be something. ★ the mystery, while cosy, was super predictable too. not that it sucked or anything, i just wish a bit more thought went into it that's all.

A 5 Star read for me | This book was PERFECTION
Erin, girly, come here and let me give you a kiss.
FINALLY, after what feels like forever I found a good wotch book. I love witches, I want to read all about witches but no book hit like this. NO. BOOK. It's such a cute and funny and cozy read for spooky season!
The little breakup at the end was unnecessary but I can look over that. I devoured that book! The writing was great, the plot made sense, the romance was amazing, the characters have my heart
Love love LOVED IT

RANDOM WEEK Your invitation from the witches arrived. The original composition came from a scene of a silly little romantic novel, Ex Hex by Erin Sterling. The book wasn't anything special but this idea stuck into my mind.

I'm very behind in posting what I've read this year lmao
The Ex Hex was my first book of Feb and I really enjoyed it. I picked it up ages ago when I was trying to get more into romance, without really knowing anything about it, so I was a little nervous when I realised it was a second chance romance which I generally do not see the appeal of. But the way it was done felt reasonable and not too hard to believe.
I did find it a little harder to get through than I'd thought I would but I think that was more to do with me (it was the middle of summer which I hate and work had just gone back so i was exhausted), rather than any problem with the book. The minute I picked it up and started reading I had a good time.
The two leads had good chemistry and I really enjoyed their relationship, the witchy vibes were fun, and the background characters were all interesting. It was cute and I would definitely consider reading the next book in the series.

The Wedding Witch, by Erin Sterling
A delightfully funny, slightly spooky witchy romance
The third Penhallow brother meets his match in The Wedding Witch! If you’ve read the second book in the series, you’ve met her too: Tamsyn is the human acquirer of witchy artifacts who causes a fair amount of trouble in The Kiss Curse. Sterling does a great job of redeeming her in this book, turning her into the perfect match for the grumpy, reclusive—and sexy!— Bowen. Tamsyn is engaging and generally quick-thinking; she also tends to fantasize (mostly about Bowen) and has an endearing tendency to blurt out her inner monologue aloud. Bowen has good reasons to be grumpy, reclusive, and single-minded; guilt over his best friend’s apparent death weighs heavily on him. But not so heavily that he doesn’t lust over—and long for—Tamsyn just as much as she does for him. The attraction between them is hot, as are several of the intimate scenes.
The Wedding Witch is set in Wales, but I didn’t get as much of a sense of place as I hoped for. The small town of Tywyll could have been almost anywhere in Britain (apart from its name, of course.) Tywyll House, on the other hand, definitely has atmosphere! And the characters, secondary as well as main, are interesting, quirky, and individual.
The plot is fun, but there’s a bit of handwaving and a notable lack of explanation when it comes to just how everything works out fine in the end. And you know what? I didn’t care! I was having too much fun with the characters to worry about it. (That’s rare for me; this is a nit I usually pick.)
My only regret is that with all three Penhallow brothers paired off, I suspect this is the end of the series. I’ll be sorry to see the last of the Jones women and Penhallow men and the whole witchy world of Graves Grove.
4.5 stars A delightfully funny, slightly spooky witchy romance, perfect for the season.
