Anyways this is the secret comedic potential of post DMC5 for Vergil because not only has the human world probably changed a fair bit in terms of technology, if he’s sticking around Dante he’s gonna actually have to learn in depth how taxes and grocery shopping work. Amazing.

hey, pile 2! i’m hearing you’ve been putting up with the bullshit for wayyyy too long and this next glow up is gonna be a proper FUCK YOU to all your haters! i feel like people take your kindness for weakness and you feel like you don’t get the respect you deserve. you can deal with a lot of passive aggression in your relationships or friendships and people expect for you to suck it up and be okay with it. what i’m mainly picking up is that you like to keep the peace. you don’t want to ruffle anyone’s feather, but it just makes it worse for you because you’re not truly expressing yourself and your emotions. this keeps you up at night like “ugh! i should’ve said this or I should’ve stuck up for myself and finally cussed so and so tf out.” but you don’t because you know why, pile 2? you’re better than them, simple as that.

you wouldn’t treat anybody how some people treat you, and the reality is that it’s so much harder to be nice than it is to be mean. anybody can be mean and say hurtful shit if they really wanted to, but to always be graceful and kind in the face of adversity and ignorance? rare af. +10000 aura points! don’t let anybody make you feel less than or like you can’t speak up for yourself. this next glow up you’re going to use your voice and really make it known that you are not to be fucked with, okay?! you will be standing your ground and really popping your shit in the most calm and collected way possible & people are gonna be like “wait…did [y/n] really just clock me like that?!” and you’re gonna be standing 10 toes down on it as you should. they’ll have no choice but to respect you lol. you will start to realize what is worth your time & energy and what isn’t.

i think you need to transmute the negative energy that people try to project on you into something positive. 12:12 on the clock, yeah. like look at this way, if people doubt you, don’t respect you or don’t feel like your capable of achieving great things then use that to your advantage. let them underestimate you all they want, and then BAM boss up on them and show them who tf you are. what they don’t know only makes you stronger. you have the power to make some powerful ass connections and make a name for yourself so be calculated & strategic with your moves. people will be eating their words when it comes to you, pile 2.

pile 3 your next glow up is gonna be a bit of an emotional rollercoaster ngl, but very rewarding nonetheless. i’m hearing that one tiktok sound “you gotta take the good with the bad, smile with the sad. love what you got and remember what you had.” so yeah i think you’re really gonna be figuring out how to transmute your energy and create something from it – whether that be a job opportunity, a love offer, a trip, etc. there’s something that you really want and you’re doing the work to make it happen. you have the plan, you just need the platform lol.

for some of you, i see a major relationship coming to an end. this could be a lover or a best friend, but this person will be exposed because they’re not who you thought they were. this person has very sneaky/deceptive energy and you’ve been in the dark about this for way too long. this person/connection means a lot to you, so you will feel like this is a tough situation to completely walk away from; but my sweet pile 3’s you will be more than okay! you will be spectacular! 10:10 was just on the clock.

So, we've washed the bones of all the main characters of the Founding era, so why not do the same, but with such minor characters that the only thing known from the canon is their names.

To your attention — Senju Butsuma and Uchiha Tajima.

Absolutely everyone is of the opinion that Butsuma is bad and Tajima is good. Why? Well, it's quite simple to understand why everyone dislikes Butsuma so much, manga helps us a lot in this matter.

Senju Butsuma is a malicious parent who does not hesitate to hit a child if he says something against, who considers it an honor to die in battle, despite the young age that one of his sons has reached.

That's all to say that he's bad, right?

You know, I'm of the opinion that holding a grudge against adults just because they're adults and they have to be able to do everything in the world, is a little wrong. I'll explain why! Tell me honestly, do you feel like an adult? Will you feel like that when you reach the age of twenty? At what point does a person become an adult at all? I'm not afraid to approach a stranger and ask for directions to some place, so I'm already a self-sufficient person to have finances and pay taxes?

I just want to say that it's pretty bad to look at Butsuma from one side, since we don't see everything. Yes, he's a disgusting parent. You can't beat children, no matter what. You can't order them to kill, no matter what.

On the other hand, it was considered the norm for the society of that time. However, I do not consider this an excuse.

All this text from above was that I agree with Naruto's fandom that Butsuma is not a very good father. But it's still funny to me to see how in fanfiction absolutely all mortal sins are attributed to him haha

However, I do not agree with the opinion that Uchiha Tajima is a good one. Either everyone decided this way because juxtaposition is the easiest method of perception, or because in the canon Tajima deigned to ask his son if they could defeat Hashirama. Seriously? Butsuma, for example, explained to his child why Uchiha are bad. Since when does ordinary conversation explain how good a person is at parenting?

Please don't think I'm being dismissive of Tajima, not at all. I just really don't like the baselessness that the opinion of his "goodness" has. Face it, most likely, both men are just disgusting people, far from tolerance and thoughts about the world.

okay this was interesting, had to rly think. Also idk if my definition of "technology" is right, but anything resembling will go. ALSO damn I rambled a lot, sorry abt that, apparently I like thinking about old tech

CDs. I miss owning albums, it was so nice to like actually have the physical copy of something u love. I think that's what missing now and is why I sometimes get actually annoyed abt loving a band/song (rn it's The Vantages (a band) & I'm actually mad about it) bc the "listening to it is not enough, I need to inject it to my bloodstream"-mood, which in actuality is that I'd love a physical copy to make it feel like a concrete thing. It's like the next best thing to going to a concert, and I can't keep buying merch I'll never wear outside my house to compensate. Also made u like decide on what album u want to listen to & the songs are always gonna be in the same order the artist decided them to be in, no mixing songs from the same or diff artists, you had to make A Choice. (actually my dad has my fave bands CDs (old-ish band & he an og fan) and it's kinda comforting to me that if (/when?) some Spotify apocalypse eventually happens, I'll have a way to listen to them anyways). Also been thinking for years about buying either a CD- or a vinyl player, or something like that bc I want to have physical copies of my faves (but haven't decided on what yet (probs vinyl tho. for the vibes.) and also the money aspect of it is not great)

Nokias. I just talked with my sister how we've both been thinking abt just buying an old Nokia keypad non-smart phone and just using that instead of like the current phones (but alas, not rly possible, like I can't get into my gym without a smart phone and that's just one thing, u kinda need a smartphone or life becomes unnecessarily complicated). those big computers that were for the whole household. We didn't have one growing up (bc my parents had computers at their work and so we didn't need one) but the thrill of going to like a friend who lived near and they used their 1h of computer time to like play some horse game; unparalleled. Or like the games at Miniclip ?? or later on CLUB PENGUIN !!!!! (still to this day the best game that has or ever will exist) (tho I think at around club penguin-era my sister got a laptop so I used that until I got my own)

Those calculators that prints on paper what u've calculated right after, idk what they're called. Never used one & obv never had one bc was a kid, and actually not fully sure if ppl still do use them (but guessing at least that they're not as popular anymore) but damn. The pure aesthetics and vibes. Hey y’all I’m back with another post! This is a good one because this transit is a major one that’s going to impact us all! To see how it’s going to impact you, check your natal and progressed chart. Look for the house Aquarius rules over. This house represents that particular area in your life. Ex. Aqua 4h, so your home, mother, family will be going through huge changes during this time.

Disclaimer: these are just my own predictions based on my years of studying astrology and applying the archetypes of the planet and sign. the future is unknown but that doesn’t mean we still cant predict the themes of what to at least be aware of. These are my personal predictions that I believe will be the themes. Remind you, this is a 20 year transit so some of this won’t happen overnight. I live in the US so a lot of the predictions is based on what’s happening here but it can still apply to other countries because we’re all connected some way

Predictions

-Ai. It’s everywhere, and I’m just going to be honest I don’t think it’s going anywhere and I believe it will advanced. Good news is that we are fighting as a collective to not let it replace us. Ai is suppose to help assist us not replace us. I think their will be some government control over it. I think we will eventually have robot type teachers, holograms, hologram type traveling, will assist doctors and medical discoveries. Ai is going to be used in everyday life for mundane things, AI use in airplanes and Cars. Faster trains.

-the Aliens 👽. The government has finally acknowledged other life forms even though we all knew this lol. Aliens have and will be a continuing topic.

-Government. I do believe there’s going to be new laws or even a constitution that will fit with this century standards and not our forefathers. Pluto rules over extreme changes. Aquarius rules over the government just like Capricorn. Remember Aqua is also co-ruled by Saturn. The difference is that Capricorn creates laws to maintain order and structure while Aquarius breaks and create new laws that can be beneficial for everyone.

-Fashion. We are entering the Cosplay everyday era. What I mean is that people are going to dressing up in the abstract clothing and it’ll be the norm. Comic con is going to be an everyday event because people are going to dress like their favorite characters just because Lol. I feel like more people are going to entrepreneurs and create a more chill vibe and have less corporations rule setting. It’s giving the office vibes lol. I also feel like more people are going to be wearing comfortable clothing than trying to “fit in.” Sustainability/Recycled clothing will be a huge fashion trend. Blues, dark reds, silver, dark yellows may be popular colors.

-protest and strikes! We’re already seeing it with Hollywood. So many actors and writers have come out and said their not making hardly nothing! Only 2% of this industry is wealthy, which means most are broke asf. Then I remembered Hollywood is Pisces energy. (Illusions & lies) what does this mean for HW in the future? Theyre not going anywhere lol. Aquarius is Leo sister sign, it’s also a fame sign. There’s always going to be famous people, however; I believe independent movie studios will be on the rise such as A24. More celebrities getting involved in activism and humanitarian projects than movies/tv. More celebrities connecting with non celeb people. I actually think a lot of them will help regular people kickstart their non-profits. More celebrities becoming entrepreneurs. This isn’t going to just be happening in the entertainment industry, this is going to happen in every industry. It wouldn’t surprise me if we see more airline protest and strikes. Moral of the story, people are going where theyre actually appreciated.

-Sex. I believe people are going to be more open when it comes to their sexuality. Talking about sex will be a normal conversation. I truly believe we are entering “let your freak fly era.” People may start to get into some crazy kinky stuff (no judgement, you do you boo!) lol

- community. Here’s the thing, I do feel like people will find their “tribe” “community” “soul group” whatever you call it but it won’t happen until you know who you are as a person first. What can you bring to the group? How can you help if you don’t know your own strengths and weaknesses? Even better question, how you gone join a community when you don’t even know what community you should join because you don’t know who you are? This is what the current North Node Aries transit will teach you! When you figure out who you are is when you will find your people.

-marriage and family. I believe we are going to start seeing more diverse families and couples. People are going to find love away from their home/culture. You may see lots of stories of people finding love overseas while traveling. People may meet their partner at random places or at a random time in their life. I feel like adoption will be a focus such as affordability, people finding out their adopted, people adopting. I believe tough conversation around adoption will rise such as people who adopt children for selfish reasons such as exploitation, adoptees talking about how hard life was for them. Remember Pluto reveals the dark side of things. I actually feel like people will start marrying more for stability then the traditional “I love you” romantic way, I also feel like people will marry their best friend(non romantic) to get by. - the outcast. more women/minorities will be entrepreneurs and working in the communication media, maybe more women(especially black)influential content creators. You may see more Poc and women working in the tech industry and more in the entertainment industry such as more award winning directors, screenwriters etc disabled people especially physical will start to be in different industries getting noticed, becoming well known activist.

-money and transportation. I do feel like there’s going to be a huge shift in our economy. I feel like crypto currency or some form of a digital banking will become our norm. Physical dollar will start to become a thing of the past. I just read an article a few months ago stating the first flying car will be released in 2025. Phones, computers are going to be more advanced than they are now. I don’t know how but it will be. We may end up having full on digital libraries that’s more advanced than kindle and others. In the USA chart, Pluto Aquarius will be in the 3h.

-health and sciences. The medical industry is going to have lots of breakthroughs. Lots of new discoveries on surgery equipment. We are going to be seeing a lot of impossibles become possible. We’re already seeing it. I just saw a surgery where they can adjust your height. Who would’ve thought that was possible 10 years ago lol. Buts that’s where the medical field is going. Pluto rules over extreme changes. I’m personally curious on the technology that’s going to help physically disabled people and what type of advancements will be discovered there.

-Animals. More People are going to start having all types of pets. The classic I have a cat, dog or goldfish won’t be your only type of pet. Instead we’re going to be hearing I have a dog and 2 raccoons lol. Aquarius rules over Apes, i wonder if there’s going to be some planet of the apes scenario. Not them taking over but studies may come out showing they’re more evolved then we realize👀

-internet. I’m going to be real honest with you and I’m not trying to instill fear or none of that but we all need to start being more private on the internet. Don’t post where you are until a few days after you’ve left. If you can, make your page private. Pluto rules over stalkers and aqua rules the internet. If you can avoid it, please don’t have your young kids on the internet without your supervision. Make their pages private too. If you have teenagers, please have a thorough conversation with them about the dangers of the internet, especially when it comes to weirdos asking them for nudes. Listen I grew up when having these talks about the internet wasn’t a thing because our parents didn’t have this growing but we can help the next generation from our mistakes. Like I said I’m not trying to scare anyone. We live in a digital world now so I want you all and your families to take safety precautions.

Back to the animal Desmond trope, I can just see a cat Desmond casually walking into various era's, fucking up the Templar's plans by just doing normal cat things, like casually pushing a glass of water onto a letter that never gets sent that would set off murder plans, and then just staring at the nearest Assassin ancestor looking to be carried off somewhere sunny to sleep. He's done his work, human, now worship him as the great cat gods of egypt said he'd be and fetch him a fish lol

For this one, I'm just imagining a white cat with POE gold eyes like this (but lighter golden eyes)

And he’s a cat that appears and disappears whenever he pleases. Everyone thinks he’s some kind of stray and he refuses to eat any of that ‘cat food’ crap.

He will steal your food if you dare give him what counts as ‘cat food’.

Altaïr first sees him after his demotion and the only reason why he even noticed him was because his fur was too white. It was eye-catching and Altaïr didn’t need anyone turning his way because a damn cat was meowing at him and trying to climb his leg. He picked the cat up, earning a purring meow then gives him to the first beggar who tries to ask for alms, surprising both the cat and the beggar and giving Altaïr enough time to run away from both of them, ignoring the indignant howling the cat was now doing. The next time Altaïr sees the cat, it was after the assassination of his target and the cat suddenly swooped down from the roof, slamming its claws to a guard’s face that was about to hit Altaïr from the back while Altaïr was busy taking down three more guards. The guard threw the cat off him but Altaïr was faster, grabbing the cat in midair and taking him with him as he made his escape. The Rafiq had looked at the cat that Altaïr was holding in one hand and just told him that they didn’t have any food to spare for the cat. After that, the cat just pops up every now and then, helping Altaïr by being a distraction or actually trying to air assassinate guards with his claws. He accepts scritches only from Altaïr but any Assassin can pat his head and back. Once Altaïr was the mentor, he cuts part of his red sash and ties it around the cat’s neck, announcing him as part of the Brotherhood. (Altaïr is pretty sure Malik gives him half of his food every time the cat sits next to his plate and stares at him quietly)

Ezio first finds the white cat with the vibrant red ribbon in Villa Auditore. To be more specific, the cat had been sleeping on top of chest armor that was on the pedestal by Altaïr’s statue. The cat yawned and jumped off the pedestal, wiggling out of the bars, and sat in front of Ezio, meowing at him. Ezio scritches his neck which made the cat purr before rolling to his back and batting Ezio’s fingers lightly. After that, the cat seemed to stay in Villa Auditore most of the time but Ezio does see him walking around town as well. Everyone in town loves him and gives him food or just pets him. Only Ezio is allowed to scritch his neck. The cat also seems to have the habit of being in certain areas in town that would yield the most profit if Ezio was to rebuild/renovate them. Then he started appearing in certain sections that would bring more money to the town if he had the architect focus on them as their next project (like the abandoned mine). Claudia believes he’s a cat that brings good fortune. Ezio is simply just happy that petting the cat seemed to be helping their mother in some way. (Then the cat appears in Roma to help Ezio with finances and then in Constantinople to give Ezio tips on where to invest and Ezio, at this point, is pretty sure the cat doesn’t bring good fortune but is actually some kind of god of money and finances. Hey, if Minerva isn’t really a goddess, maybe the god of money and finances is a goddamn immortal cat)

Edward grabbed the first cat he sees when they finally landed somewhere safe after escaping the Spaniards because every ship needs to have a ship’s cat. Not just because they kept rodents at bay but because it’s superstition and sailors/pirates are a superstitious lot so Edward’s not gonna take any chances. Turns out the cat he dragged into the ship didn’t like being grabbed without even a ‘hello, beautiful’ and refused to kill rats. Instead, the cat, for some unknown reason, got all the rodents to be at his beg and call. In one loud yowl, rodents from all over the ship will skitter to his location………… which always turns out to be the captain’s quarters just as Edward was about to go to sleep.

Ratonhnhaké:ton was sure the white cat that appears and disappears all the time was some kind of spirit. That was the only reason he could think of to why he would always hear the same meow in the direction he needed to look at to have enough time to hide or to find whatever his target was. The white cat was also the best hunting partner Ratonhnhaké:ton ever had. What he lacked in strength, he made up with speed and the ability to jump from branches to branches faster than any animal Ratonhnhaké:ton had ever seen………… He also has the habit of suddenly swooping down from the rooftops and slamming into Haytham’s head, clawing his hat and, more than once, actually managing to take the hat off Haytham and running away with it, dragging it to the mud and getting Haytham to run after him where the poor hat ended up in horseshit. Strangely enough, Haytham never got angry at the white cat and when Ratonhnhaké:ton asked why, Haytham simply said…

“You do not anger the Rat Caller.”

Do you like apocalyptic stories/movies? Like anything with zombies or Death Angels overtaking the earth, and the protagonists have to learn to co-operate.

I’m not sure if this is an unpopular opinion but I think that apocalyptic movies, typically classified as horror, has a certain beauty to them. There are certain scenes that are so ethereal, the brief moments amidst chaos when it’s a soothing quiet. There’s no one else, and it’s reminiscent of being the first and only one to wake up early in the morning and watch the sun rise all to yourself. (I think this shows just how introverted I am LOL.) Or with a partner, like maybe Nanami 🥹🥹🥲, but I can’t relate 😂

The second point I wanted to bring up: have you watched Train to Busan? Basically it’s about a fund manager who is a workaholic and also a divorced father as he was often absent from his family. For his daughter’s birthday, she wanted to go see his mother so they take a the train to Busan. However, an infected person boards the train, and the unaffected passengers must isolate the zombies in the separate carts until they reach Busan.

One of the big themes is balancing self-interest and the protection of others. You see this played out in different variations with the different characters. Some don’t mind sacrificing themselves for the sake of the majority, a few selfish people will make reckless decisions that will sacrifice everyone else’s life for their own benefit, and then we have the father. If my faded and wavering memory (💀) serves correctly, he only looked out for his own and his daughter’s safety and disregard the other passengers’. This changes by the end— I don’t want to specify how because no spoilers but imo it’s a very beautiful character growth to witness.

So why do I bring this up? Because, oh. my. gawd, it reminded me soooo much of Salaryman Era!Nanami Kento 😙😙😙

Oh, side note, it makes sense why Gege said Nanami would only want to get married after he’s done with jujutsu sorcery, so he can pay all his attention to his lovely new family! The male lead’s splintered family from Train to Busan is like a “what would’ve happened” if Nanami chose to have a family while being so busy.

If you are interested in an apocalypse AU (or not, that’s okay too! since this is a bit different from character analysis), I wanted to discuss with you the potential philosophies and decision-makings of salaryman Nanami before he finds his purpose as a protector. When his only goals were money, beach house, and reading (so relatable). I wonder how this past version of Nanami would react and if he would choose to save anyone. Maybe not at first, or maybe he’d be very selective at first? But I could totally see potential character growth and also find someone worth saving (you 😏).

For now, I’ll just leave this conversation as open-ended since I’m unsure if it’s a topic worth pursuing for you. I used to be in to dystopian, but I slowly fell out of love and quickly became infatuated with both apocalyptic media and Nanami Kento. Hope you’re having a great day! 💜💜💜

@courtneedsleep Wow, this is so fascinating! So, to get into it, I love dystopian themes, but have watched my fair share of apocalyptic themes in media too. I know exactly what you mean by the beauty of the quiet juxtaposed with the frenetic energy and near escapes (or not) of the rest of the film.

My personal favourite piece of apocalyptic/dystopian media is 'Oryx and Crake' by Margaret Atwood, a book I can return to many, many times. Some of the most beautiful, haunting scenes are the moments of stillness and stolen beauty, where the main character's memories of the past superimpose themselves over the naked desolation of the present, a world designed for millions now inhabited by a few. So I completely understand what you mean when you say that the brief moments of peace amongst the chaos stand out the most.

I haven't watched Train to Busan, but based on this description, think I'm gonna get back from work and watch it tomorrow evening. A cosy movie night!

The evolution of salaryman Nanami is a fascinating one, because he placed his personal desires first (saving for his comfortable retirement, as you mentioned), but his innate desire to help others draws him inevitably back to sorcery.

So, on this note, I think salaryman Nanami would show a distinct evolution in an apocalyptic setting, particularly if he had a family. His initial instincts would be to protect his child, probably to the point of ruthlessness (and assuming there would be a similar familial set-up to 'Train to Busan'). Nanami's analytic mind and ability to accurately and carefully assess risks and outcomes of situations would probably be invaluable to anyone he comes into contact with.

I feel, to extend on that, that in this setting, he would probably start out just looking out for himself, and possibly his child. Due to his natural, quiet charisma and ability to take charge, he would probably gather a following of people who see him as trustworthy, level-headed and a leader, even if he himself denies any such role. I feel like people would naturally gravitate towards him in this sense, including those with useful skills who need to simply be pointed in the right direction.

Although Nanami would start out strictly looking after his family, I think that in this setting, he would eventually start to see and understand that the isolation of modern living and the rules that apply, all fall away when faced with an apocalyptic situation. He would come to realise that the skills, personalities and unique perspectives of others are things to be valued and relied upon. It would be a slow process, but he'd get there.

Nanami's principles, as strong as ever, would never allow him to use someone for his/his family's convenience. If he was to operate independently, and look out only for himself at the outset, he'd never do so at the expense of someone else. His thoughts would be more along the line of: "I will save my family. Everyone else can do whatever they want." And it's this mindset that would gradually change the more he is exposed to some core group of reliable companions who may even rescue him from a tight situation on more than one occasion.

His gradual acknowledgement of the involvement others have in his life and survival could open the door a crack for maybe some romance 😉 Or at least, hints of it. This gradual opening up would also have implications for his personal growth and development. That rare beauty you spoke of in apocalyptic media, the moment of serenity and otherworldly calm amidst the devastation, is something that could open his eyes to the importance of humanity's preservation, for future generations (like his child).

While this may not lead to the exact evolution of Sorcerer Nanami, who we know and love so well, it would certainly drive him to become something very close. The theme of self-interest versus selfishness is a really interesting one, because Nanami's canon 'selfishness' always rang a little hollow for me. He worked so hard for those things (books, comfort, an early retirement), but all it took was one person (bakery girl) showing him how killing curses helps people, to turn him back to his selfless (and self-sacrificing) job of being a sorcerer. At heart, Nanami could never have put himself first. Not to say that he didn't genuinely want those personal goals, he just put them aside so quickly for a higher cause, because that's just who he is.

Apocalyptic Salaryman Nanami would probably have the same epiphany, arriving in a different vehicle. Some trigger would help him understand the value of self-sacrifice/sacrifice in general for a greater good; ensuring the safety of not just his child/loved one, but everyone who can be saved. He'd adopt the role of guardian, but in a symbolic sense too, safeguarding the future that belongs to his child and all like them. Where that would lead his character ... who knows? 🤭

It would be fun to speculate!

But in Chapter 10 of Imperialism: The Highest Stage of Capitalism, Lenin characterizes imperialism as a stage of monopoly capitalism marked by monopolies, cartels, the role of banks as monopolists of finance capital, and a new colonial policy centered around the struggle for raw materials and capital exports. He argues that imperialism has led to increases in the cost of living for working people and increased unevenness in the economic development of states. Lenin sees the monopolies' oligarchical powers as a symptom of a transitional era and a "moribund" capitalism.

Lenin thus argues that advanced capitalist nation-states and cartels exploit both their own citizens and the resources and people of other countries, creating a parasitic relationship that allows cartels to profit and expand. This ultimately relies on the use of force or threat of use of force to protect private interests. Exploited nations are unable to achieve meaningful development due to this exploitation. This affects their ability to engage with each other and defend themselves. Imperialism's all-encompassing power distorts social and economic processes in both imperialist and colonized nations. Therefore, the struggle between imperialism and decolonization is the most important conflict for the future of humanity.

It was back to basics at this year’s MIPCOM, the world’s leading television market, which wrapped in Cannes this week, with buyers and sellers alike, still reeling from the 2023 Hollywood strikes and a sluggish advertising market, embracing a more conservative approach. The message was clear: the era of high-risk, big-budget productions is giving way to more practical, proven formats, both in scripted and non-scripted programming.

“People are looking for the tried and true,” noted Lisa Kramer, president of international content licensing for Paramount Global Content Distribution, which found eager buyers for their proudly mainstream procedural line-up, which includes the Kathy Bates Matlock reboot, the Elementry-esque medical detective series Watson and two spin-offs of its world-conquering NCIS franchise: the Euro-set NCIS: Tony & Ziva and the prequel series Origins.

NCIS, which has generated $4.5 billion for the studio, still has a lot of life left in it, with Kramer noting strong sales for the series’ back catalog as well, with streaming companies eager to load up on a dependable procedural. “They want a large volume of episodes of a show which can reliably deliver an audience.” Paramount recently inked a deal with German broadcaster ProSiebenSat.1 for some 1,000 episodes of NCIS, NCIS: L.A., NCIS: Hawaii, and NCIS: New Orleans, for ProSieben’s streaming outlet Joyn. Speaking at MIPCOM, ProSiebenSat.1 Chief Content Officer Henrik Pabst noted the franchise is “consistently in the top 10” of all shows on the platform.

TV tastemakers used to look down on episode-of-the-week dramas but a renewed focus on ratings and subscriber retention means procedurals are cool again.

“What is nice is there was this disdain for procedurals and now people are saying, ‘You know what, the audience enjoys them and we should make new procedurals,” noted Warner Bros. TV chair Channing Dungey.

Basic economics also explains the shift. With U.S. outlets cutting their budgets, producers have to look abroad for financing. 75 to 80 percent of the budget of a major series now typically comes out of Europe, one veteran U.S. producer noted. And European buyers love proceedurals.

“Increasingly, the market is being driven by what works internationally,” noted Kramer.

With most buyers in super-saver mode, lower-cost reality and entertainment shows are in high demand, both from traditional broadcasters and, increasingly, from global streamers. Amazon MGM Studios turned its MIPCOM keynote into a love-in for Japanese comedy format LOL: Last One Laughing, which has become one of the most successful non-scripted formats of recent years and is Prime Video’s most-watched title ever in several countries. The show, in which top comedians try to make each other laugh, by whatever means necessary, is getting a U.K. version next year, produced by Banijay.

“We are really seeing a conference between the broadcasters and the streamers in terms of the formats they want,” said superindie Banijay‘s chief content officer Lucas Green. “The streamers are looking for reality, for game shows, for entertainment shows. And soon, they’ll be doing live event shows. There isn’t the big distinction between the two [broadcast and streaming] that we used to see.”

Henrik Pabst of Germany’s ProSiebenSat.1 uses the word “super streamer” or, more awkwardly, “broad video on demand” to describe this strategic convergence, driven by a decline in traditional linear television viewing and a steady rise in streaming consumption.

“Linear consumption is going down regularly, full stop, while VOD consumption is going up,” says Pabst. “It’s just a question of time before these two lines cross in terms of consumption, and when these two lines cross, you should have your right content strategy in place.”

For ProSiebenSat.1, that means doubling down on formats that work well across all platforms — like hit competition reality show Germany’s Next Top Model — the network recently extended its deal with GNTM host Heidi Klum for “several years” past the next, 20th, season of the show — and beefing up on digital rights for U.S. series that work on streaming, from NCIS to The Mentalist to Friends, while cutting back on original drama production and acquisitions of new U.S. series for its over-the-air networks.

Judging by MIPCOM attendance numbers, which were down nearly 5 percent to 10,500, and footfall in the Palais — “our booth was busy, but I’d look down the aisle and could see straight through,” noted Electric Entertainment’s Dean Devlin — the recovery of the global TV business still a way to go.

And it could get worse before it gets better. Speaking at a MIPCOM keynote, outgoing Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Tony Vinciquerra said he expected “a big shakeout” in the next 18 to 24 months.

“It’s going to be very chaotic, there are going to be mergers, consolidation, sales, bankruptcies, potentially,” he said, “The streaming services will be profitable at some point, they may not be tremendously profitable, but they’ll be profitable. [But] the cable numbers are on an inevitable decline.”

I got done with Arcade Mode and World Tour Mode, so I’m going to post my thoughts in a span of several posts. Here’s one of my thoughts:

JP was an accountant for Shadaloo …it’s kinda hard to imagine that someone so powerful was once working under the likes of F.A.N.G, Vega, Balrog, and the Dolls. It’s said that the Dolls are the highest rank in in the organization, save for the 4 Kings, or at least according to the official Street Fighter site during the SFV era.

I’d understand if he’s heading the finance department as a 3rd party contractor, but in-house Shadaloo? I’m surprised he didn’t become a fifth king or something lol. Either JP was still green on the Psycho Power stuff, or he’d rather just play things behind the scenes since his way of doing things is not as direct as M. Bison’s 🤔🤔

Also after completing World Tour Mode, the story still continues. Kalima and the Resistance are still plotting against JP, and you as the avatar could have him as a Master. Huh, I guess after getting his butt kicked in the end of the game, he’s totally OK with taking the player as a disciple…even though he and to some extent Juri Han (she can be one of your masters too) were catalysts to Bosch’s demise. Talk about complicated stuff here. Imagine hearing the stories from Ken, Kimberly, and Cammy’s run in with JP, and then in the end becoming his student. I wonder how’s they’d feel hehe.

Anyway, with the DLC coming with Rashid, A.K.I., Ed, and Akuma, more Shadaloo lore will drop. I wonder if we’ll have more mainline story modes. Like, will the Resistance ever take down JP? Will Ken go back to his family?

I look forward for what’s to come.
