“You’ve never been kissed?” Solas’s brow rises with the curious turn of his voice, eyes deliberately falling an inch to examine the turn of Felassan’s lips.

“I’ve been preoccupied,” he answers. “A little busy helping others live their lives to reflect much upon my own.”

Pity winds up Solas’s throat, like a trailing vine of ivy it stifles, but does not smother the emotions at play. “A… familiar sentiment,” he says. Beneath the surface of their minds, the memories of their almosts play in harmony. “I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be. There’s a first time for everything, I’ll be sure of that.”

How about Y and S for the poly prompts?

I already have so many fics on my plates right now that I do not have the energy to do another, but still wanted to do something for @equalopportunitysolas this week, so we're doing polycule headcanons instead! Link to the questions here. The polycule is pretty complex (I have included a handy reference chart), and includes a variety of relationships between: Solas, Ghilara Lavellan, Dorian, Isabela, Merrill and Hawke.

y = yearn; who misses their partners the easiest (ie, calls them to hear their voices when all they’ve done is run to the grocery store)?

Solas. All the way. This man knows how to pine. He has it perfected down to an artform. I think he does have a lot of the 'I don't deserve her' referring to Ghilara and Shiralla in particular. He doesn't have them to a toxic level, but he is frequently astounded that people keep him around after the whole 'tried to destroy the world' thing. Plus, he does have a decade of missed time to make up for...

I wouldn't quite call Merrill a big yearner, but she would be the one who would always be excited to write and send out Christmas Saturnalia cards every year to all the polycule members. Even when Bela is away she writes to her often, and keeps the contact details of any partners/fwb she has, just in case she needs to send them a card or gift basket at Saturnalia. She also has a spy in Dorian's household staff who lets her know if Dorian is seeing anybody so she can include him. Dorian keeps trying to find her spy so he can buy them off but has not yet succeeded.

s = sharing; is there anyone who’s particularly territorial of their partners?

I think this one goes to Isabela and Dorian.

Bela would be super protective of literally all of the women in the polycule, especially Ghilara and Merrill, because she feels they're too kind and knows that the world takes advantage of good and kind people. Merrill would find it sweet, and Ghilara would bristle at it, but reluctantly give in.

Dorian would be also very protective of Ghil, because of his involvement in fighting Solas. He and Ghilara trauma bonded, first over Redcliff, and then the 10 years between games. I think he has got a ways to go on trusting Solas again, so he's going 'I got my eye on you' to him. He trusts Ghilara to make her own decisions, but he's ready to be there with a fireball if Solas goes off to destroy the world again.

I was also going to say Solas, but I actually think he would be super chill. Setting up platonic fade hang outs for Ghil and Dorian when they're in different countries, cooking dinner for Ghilara and Isabela after they've hooked up. He compensates for a lack of jealousy with poor self esteem and truly extraordinary amounts of yearning.

Day 1 - Dreams

Sulevin is a Dreamer, too- but he's very careful to never venture far, and he mostly helps make sure his clan, his people are safe on the side of the Fade. He learns to be more at ease with Solas, learning how to more safely interact with spirits.

Equal Opportunity Solas week

Taking Place Oct 6th - Oct 12th

I want to thank everyone for their comments / thoughts / suggestions on what was formally called Pan Solas Week. I originally started taking about this event with the rare-pair Solas romance community, which is how the event started with that direction and scope.

What I personally feel is needed in the Solasmancer community is more inclusive and diverse pairings, which can take on various forms. Requests to make the week solely Rare-Pair excluded certain groups. Request to go solely Queer Solas excluded certain rare-pairs. When considering different shapes the event could take, it ultimately came down to what I was most excited about and motivated to run.

Therefore, Equal Opportunity Solas Week will support content involving:

Solas rare-pair romances

Solas romances with queer characters

Queer Solas romances (in which Solas himself is queer)

Asexual & aromantic Solas pairings

Solas romances involving characters with mental or physical disabilities (beyond missing anchor arm)

The event will exclude:

heterosexual cisgendered (cishet) fem!Lavellan

Queer representations of fem!Lavellan or female-presenting Lavellans are valid and encouraged within this event, including:

poly romance with Solas and another character(s)

aromantic or asexual relationship with Solas

bisexual Lavellan

nonbinary Lavellan

trans Lavellan

gender fluid Lavellan

Concerns have been expressed about certain representations taking over others in the event. While ideally, the event would include a diverse range of content, it's ultimately going to come down to who decides to participate. So, if you want to see more of something, tag and share when the blog goes live.

I'm working on putting the blog, rules, and themes together right now. I'll make a final post tagging everyone when the blog goes live. If you'd like to help support the event in anyway, please let me know.

Hot dwarven lady be upon thee... and upon Solas.

It's Equal opportunity Solas time so I wanted to share who gets to smooch him in my headcanons.

Riona Brosca-Cadash is a gal who has see a lot of shit in her life- tough as the Stone herself, organised, no-nonsense and deeply, unshakeably caring. She has a son whom sadly was left without a father after Carta buissness gone wrong incident. Knowing she might need a back up plan when the Inqusition began to emerge and made contact with the Carta, she volounteered as a representative.

Despite being born castless and living the life of a surfacer, Riona has deep faith in the Stone and a complicated relationship with her homeland. This is initially a source of some... polite disagreement between her and Solas. Dwarves are a bit of a mystery to Solas, and being stuck in close proximity to two of those, both with very diffrent prespectives on life would have him struggling a little. But with time snippy remarks between the two would morph into deep philosophical disscussions, wehere they would both realise that they have some core values in common despite coming to them from diffrent prespectives and oh look, now they are kissing.

That's another thing, I am very much a fan of sheepish Solas. That guy hadn't any game in millenias, meanwhile Riona is a widow of a mafia member, she is not playing around. There is no way Solas would stay calm and collected around all that castless, carta swag. She obviously finds getting him flustered hilarious.

So that's them in the happy times ... those don't really last though do they...

My next fic for @equalopportunitysolas week! This time I got to write for Varric/Solas for the first time. I've always been a bit intrigued by them and now I definitely want more. Hopefully Veilguard will have a lot of opportunity to explore their friendship/situationship lol.

One nights insomnia leads Solas to find solace in the last person he expected.

Ever since he awoke from Uthenera, Solas has been plagued by constant reminders of the damage he has wrought, but none so worse than the Exalted Plains. Even the name leaves an acrid taste in his mouth, so horrifically ironic that even Dorian points out the hypocrisy and Cassandra stays mercifully quiet.

To see such remnants of his home scattered around veil thin battlefields and tombs and one small struggling Dalish tribe makes his stomach churn and sleep proves fitful and sometimes impossible.

One night, with his heart racing and the walls of his tent feels suffocating, he slips out to the fire, even though he has already completed his watch.

Only Varric remains, scribbling something in a small, leather bound journal close to the fire. He spares Solas a glance before returning to his work.

“Can’t sleep, Chuckles? I thought that was your specialty.”

“Every artist struggles with their craft,” Solas says dryly.

“Tell me about it,” Varric mutters.

He ignores Solas in favor of more scribbling and Solas grows curious, despite himself. Never has he had the inclination to actually read any of Varric’s crime serials or the romance that had so enchanted Cassandra. But Varric also never passed an opportunity to tease Solas or coax him into a ridiculous conversation or tell a story and this blatant avoidance is  . . .

Well Solas is not going to say insulting because Varric’s attention irritates him and he’s grateful that something else occupies the dwarf’s focus that isn’t a bald joke.

“Here, Vhenan.”

Ian stirs from his seat in the window, turning in time to see Solas pouring his tea.

He stares at it, torn between sorrow and relief. It is a blend whose bitter taste he has come to depend on in evenings where nightmares descend upon him like a pack of hungry wolves, but he has not come to love it. He resents it, in fact— it, and the nightmares that necessitate it.

“But—” he protests weakly. “I said we would…”

“Take it,” Solas says, eyes heavy with his own interrupted sleep. “There will be other nights, other dreams.
