Scent of Steam is a two person band from Pennsylvania, USA. Formed by Dawn, they play most instruments, write all music and lyrics, and mix each song in a home studio. Adam is the drummer and manager. A mix of industrial, rock and synth, there are several influences for their music. Adam and Dawn grew up listening to not only their favorite bands, but also played a lot of video games. From that, they've drawn quite a bit of inspiration from a wide range of video game soundtracks. Their most popular song is Dialing for an Answer, which has been described as "[…] dark, brooding, yet still fun." by Gabby Lang from The Weekender.
The Band
Born and raised in Northeast Pennsylvania, Dawn is a former physics major who decided to leave the prospects of a lab environment for the music stage. They had little to no prior experience with music beforehand. Without knowing how to play much guitar, and only having a usb mic with no amp, they made their first demo of Nothing I Could Say in December 2019 at 3:30am and never looked back.
Adam originally hails from South New Jersey, but decided to move up to PA to live with Dawn after knowing each other online for 6 years. With a ton of energy to expend and inspired by his favorite bands, Adam drew an interest in the drums. Once Dawn had made the demo for Nothing I Can Say, he was on board. Also having a robust background in business, he took up reigns as manager of the band.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Multi-platinum producer, Kenny Carkeet (AWOLNATION, FITNESS) brings subversive pop sound to Chicago indie band Ballroom Boxer’s single “Wrigley (Jason’s song)”
Stats: Tiktok 68,800 likes, Instagram 2384 followers, Spotify 306,000 plays, Soundcloud

[Chicago, IL, August 30, 2023] — Ballroom Boxer, the indie pop band known for their infectious melodies and thought-rocking lyrics, will unveil their newest effort October 25, 2023. Titled "Wrigley (Jason's Song)," the track showcases the band's exceptional songwriting prowess and their continued growth as artists in the face of unexpected loss. The single will be available on all major streaming platforms.
"Wrigley (Jason's Song)," written the day after their friend Jason passed away in 2021, is a mesmerizing blend of lush instrumentation, shimmering sonic brushes, and painfully spoken vocals. The song takes listeners on an introspective journey of what it’s like to Google search how to deal with loss.
If the emotional challenges of capturing the grief journey weren’t enough, the band added a physical one when drummer, Dave Altier, broke his hand a week before entering the studio, forcing him to complete drums one handed. Thankfully, producer Kenny Carkeet came well equipped with creative solves and modern production techniques.
Renowned for his work with numerous chart-topping artists, including AWOLNATION’S “SAIL” and his recent collaboration with Grammy award-winning band The Lumineers, Carkeet, shared his thoughts on the creation of "Wrigley (Jason's Song)."
"Working with Ballroom Boxer on this track has been a wildly fulfilling experience. Their dedication to craft and storytelling shines in the music. 'Wrigley' is a powerful song that I got to add my own sonic brushes and production spin too."
Lead singer Mike Altier shared his take on the new release, stating, "We poured everything of ourselves into Wrigley (Jason's Song). It's my most personal song that reflects the complex emotions that take hold while navigating loss, specifically, sudden loss and moving forward with it."
With their new single, Ballroom Boxer continues to establish themselves as a rising force in the indie pop scene. "Wrigley (Jason's Song)" will be available October 25, 2023 on all major music platforms. Listeners are encouraged to follow Ballroom Boxer on social media for the latest updates on upcoming releases, live performances, and more.

Creating a Killer EPK: Essential Elements and Troubleshooting
In the music and entertainment industry, first impressions are everything, and nothing makes a better first impression than a killer Electronic Press Kit (EPK). Whether you're an emerging artist, a seasoned band, or a professional in any creative field, an EPK is your golden ticket to capturing attention, securing gigs, and elevating your brand. But what exactly goes into creating an EPK that stands out from the crowd? In this article, we’ll break down the essential elements and guide you through the process of building an impressive EPK, while also troubleshooting common issues you might encounter along the way.
What is an EPK?
An Electronic Press Kit, or EPK, is a digital portfolio that provides the media, booking agents, and other industry professionals with everything they need to know about you. Think of it as your online resume, but with more flair and multimedia elements that showcase your talent and personality.
In the past, artists and bands would send physical press kits to media outlets, containing printed bios, photos, and CDs. With the rise of digital media, EPKs have become the standard, allowing for instant sharing and access to your materials anytime, anywhere.
Why Do You Need a Killer EPK?
Having a well-crafted EPK is crucial for several reasons:
- **Professionalism**: An EPK presents you as a serious artist or professional who is ready for business.
- **Accessibility**: It allows industry professionals to quickly access and share your information.
- **Brand Building**: A killer EPK helps you control your narrative and brand image.
- **Time-Saving**: With all your materials in one place, you save time when pitching yourself to potential clients or media outlets.
Essential Elements of an EPK
**Biography**
Your biography is the heart of your EPK. It tells your story, highlights your achievements, and gives a personal touch that connects with the reader. Whether you're an artist, band, or professional, your bio should be concise yet compelling. Include key milestones, influences, and what sets you apart in your field.
**High-Quality Media**
Visuals are a powerful tool in your EPK. Professional photos, album covers, and logos create a strong visual identity. If you're a musician, including video content like music videos or live performances is a must. This allows industry professionals to see and hear you in action.
**Discography or Portfolio**
This section is where you showcase your work. For musicians, this means listing albums, singles, and notable collaborations. If you're in another field, include a portfolio of your best projects. Organize this content in a way that’s easy to navigate, making sure your most impressive work is front and center.
**Press Clippings and Reviews**
Positive press and reviews can add significant weight to your EPK. Include snippets of articles, interviews, and reviews that highlight your work. If you're just starting and don't have much press coverage, consider including testimonials from fans or clients.
**Contact Information**
Make it easy for people to reach you. Include your email, phone number, and links to your social media profiles. If you have a manager or publicist, be sure to include their contact details as well.
**Tour Dates and Event Information**
If you're a performing artist, this section is essential. Keep your tour dates, upcoming shows, and events up-to-date. This not only informs your audience but can also help you book more gigs by showing your active schedule.
**Branding and Design**
Your EPK should reflect your brand’s identity. Use consistent colors, fonts, and imagery that match your other promotional materials. A well-designed EPK creates a memorable impression and sets you apart from others.
**Building Your EPK: Step-by-Step Guide**
**Choosing the Right Platform**
Decide whether you want a hosted EPK (on platforms like Sonicbids or ReverbNation) or a self-hosted EPK on your website. Each option has its pros and cons, depending on your needs and budget.
**Designing Your EPK**
Focus on creating a user-friendly layout that’s easy to navigate. A clean, organized design will keep the viewer engaged. Don’t forget to make your EPK mobile-responsive, as many people will view it on their phones.
**Writing and Editing Content**
The content in your EPK should be clear, concise, and free of errors. Write in a way that’s engaging and professional. Editing is crucial – ensure everything is polished before you share your EPK with the world.
**Troubleshooting Common EPK Problems**
**Technical Issues**
Broken links and missing files can ruin the effectiveness of your EPK. Regularly check your EPK to ensure all links are working and files are properly uploaded.
**Outdated Content**
Keeping your EPK current is vital. Update it regularly with new photos, press clippings, and tour dates to reflect your latest achievements.
**Lack of Engagement**
If your EPK isn’t generating the response you hoped for, consider adding more interactive elements like videos or links to your social media. Engaging content can make a big difference.
**Conclusion**
Creating a killer EPK is about more than just putting together a few photos and a bio. It’s about telling your story in a way that resonates with industry professionals and showcases your unique talents. By including all the essential elements and keeping your EPK up-to-date, you’ll be well on your way to making a lasting impression.
**FAQs**
1. **How often should I update my EPK?**
- You should update your EPK whenever there’s a significant change, such as a new release, tour dates, or major press coverage. Aim to review and refresh your EPK at least every few months.
2. **Can I use a free platform to create my EPK?**
- Yes, there are free platforms available, but they may come with limitations. A self-hosted EPK on your website offers more flexibility and control over your content and branding.
3. **What should I do if I don’t have any press clippings?**
- If you lack press coverage, consider including testimonials from fans or industry peers. You can also focus on building this section over time as you gain more exposure.
4. **How do I make my EPK stand out?**
- Focus on high-quality visuals, a compelling bio, and engaging content. Make sure your EPK reflects your unique brand and personality.
5. **Is it necessary to have both a website and an EPK?**
- While not mandatory, having both a website and an EPK can be beneficial. Your website serves as a broader online presence, while your EPK is a targeted tool for media and industry professionals.
