Overall....
The point that I am trying to get across is that life would be a lot easier for some girls if birth control could be obtained without parental consent. If the teenagers could just get it without them it could help them in so many good ways without all the mental stress. They could have safe sex to prevent pregnancies, clear skin, and less menstrual cramps. Doctors should talk to the teenagers about birth control to make sure they know everything about it. The girl should tell her parents only if she wanted them to know. It’s their body, their life.

Guess what... Birth control prevents pregnancy!
Many young teenagers are sexually active. They don’t want their parents to know so they don’t tell them. Next thing you know the teenager becomes pregnant at a young age and the parents want to know where they went wrong. If the teenager was able to obtain birth control in their teenage years it could prevent pregnancy from happening. Most teenagers aren’t mature enough to handle the responsibility of parenthood. If the girls were already on birth control they would be having safe sex and have the chance to reduce pregnancies. The truth is that half of the young women under the age of 18 have already had sex. Without contraceptives, they are about ninety percent likely to get pregnant within the first year. Otherwise, if teen girls are unable to acquire birth control, they risk the chance of becoming one of the “3 out of 10 American girls who become pregnant before age 20” (HealthResearchFunding.org)

Facts about Birth Control
-There are many awesome medical benefits that come along with taking the birth control pill that include:
Less acne Less cramping Less menstrual flow Less excess body hair Lower cancer risk Fewer ectopic pregnancies Osteoporosis protection Lowers the risk of inflammatory disease.
If young women need birth control for any of these reasons I do not see why they would need their parent’s consent. As a fifteen-year-old, I needed birth control to help with my cystic acne. My mother had to consent to receive the birth control because of the law. At the doctor’s my mother was in the room and he was in the room asking me crazy questions like, “Are you sexually active?” My mom chose to leave the room because she thought that it was personal. So why should she get to choose if I got to take the pills or not if it was something that’s personal to me? Shouldn’t I have had a say in the situation because it was my body that they were talking about?

Birth Control Law in Louisiana
The Louisiana you have to have a prescription to obtain hormonal birth control (Gynopedia). If you’re an unmarried minor under 17 years old, you need parental consent to obtain birth control. Currently, no state or federal law requires minors to have parental consent.
I believe that this law should be reversed. I also believe that a teen should be able to obtain her own birth control without a parent’s consent. A teenager has just as many rights to their own bodies just as the parent’s do. Teens are scared to tell their parents things especially the huge subject of sex. It would help prevent teenage pregnancies and abortions as well in the long run. It can protect a girl from getting sexually transmitted diseases.

Young girls have their own bodies.
Young girls should have a say in what they do with their own bodies. It’s THEIR own body and their own choice they should be able to do what they want. If the teenager seems mature and can understand the certain side effects that come along with the birth control then I do not think that the parents have to consent to this. The girl should have the right to tell her parents or not. If they want it just because they want to cure their acne or prevent some types of cancer she should be able to consent for herself.

Girls Receiving Birth Control Without Parental Consent
Girls Using Birth Control Without Parental Consent?
Now, some of you would say that it would be crazy for a girl to receive birth control without their parent’s consent because they’re so young. But, I believe that girls should have the right to receive birth control without their parent’s consent and here’s why.
The State Law in Louisiana is that if you are an unmarried minor, under the age of 17, you have to have parental consent to obtain birth control. This law is ridiculous because if it wasn’t a law it would help many girls in the long run. Louisiana should change their law because it will help out many young teenagers wanting to make their own decisions for themselves. Birth control not only prevents pregnancy but it has many other good factors such as balancing hormones, clearing up acne and reduces menstrual pain. Girls should be able to get birth control without parental consent because it is their own body and their own choice.
Facts: -There are many awesome medical benefits that come along with taking the birth control pill that include: Less acne Less cramping Less menstrual flow Less excess body hair Lower cancer risk Fewer ectopic pregnancies Osteoporosis protection Lowers the risk of inflammatory disease.
Pregnancies: Ninety-five percent of all unintended pregnancies are because of inconsistent birth control use. Since birth control prevents pregnancy it would reduce the number of teen pregnancies. Most teens do not want their parents to know that they are sexually active and even some parents will say no to them having sex. Sexually active teens will not have to make the decision of having an abortion. Almost half of the girls in the United States have sex by the time they are 18. Without contraceptives, they are ninety percent likely to get pregnant within the first year but birth control can help lower that. This means if girls were on birth control, they would be having safer sex by reducing the chance of getting pregnant. They aren't at as much risk for sexually transmitted diseases and that pregnancy risks are greatly reduced. Most teens are mature enough to take precautions towards having safer sex and are smart enough to think ahead to get birth control. Many teens are too embarrassed to go to their parents and they would prefer to get it on their own.
The overall message is that teenagers should be able to access birth control if they want it or feel like they need it just in case they feel the need to be protected. Girls should be able to get it in case they are feeling very painful menstrual cramps or just to even help with their acne. This would be beneficial to everyone especially to those need it. Parental consent is just harder to get sometimes because not all parents agree to it or they feel as if their child is growing up too fast. Abstinence prevents pregnancy just as much as birth control does.
