Demo Update (July, 10, 2024): Episode 1
EPISODE 1 UPDATE: +100,433 WORDS
Hi Hello. Yes, I know. :< I went dark again! This time it was because I ended up changing more last minute and didn't want to moan on about the excuses so I hunched away to work on it in silence. :> I think I've made it clear through my actions that I am not a social media person so I tend to neglect the 502 Tumblr when I write. Sorry :< A lot happened in my life since posting the pilot but I did say I would never abandon 502 and I meant it. I struggled with my work/life balance since starting an IF (it's a lot of work) but I'm glad I'm here to I can update the demo now!
What to expect:
⛟ Another day in apartment 502
⛟ Spend some time with one of the roommates.
⛟ Have your orientation at your job and meet a familiar face!
Some things to take note of:
The news anchor route is not available. I didn't like the direction I was taking it and haven't figured out what I want to do with it. It's not gone permanently but this update it'll be blocked off :<
Stats are still not updating. I ended up changing them multiple times and realized I wanted to wait another update to figure out what stats I want to focus on. The story gives me many directions to go on when it comes to stats and I want to make sure I hone in on the stats that will apply the most of MC's story. The stats are there so you won't get any errors but they won't move or anything and they'll most likely change.
There may be some inconsistencies, typos, errors or things that don't match. The product of writing half the chapter over nine months ago and going through many changes. :< Please let me know if you find errors. You 100% will in a 100k chapter.
The demo is 150,299 words. Play Apt. 502 here.
#update#it's 4 am :>#sorry for the long wait#im trying to adjust#demo update#interactive fiction#interactive novel#interact-if

"Wherefore dost thou of the uncouth race of Men endure to upbraid a king of the Eldalië? Lo! in Palisor my life began years uncounted before the first of Men awoke. Get thee gone, O Úrin..."
'Turambar and the Foalóke' in The Book of Lost Tales Part II. Written c. 1919.
"How do ye of uncouth race dare to demand aught of me, Elu Thingol, Lord of Beleriand, whose life began by the waters of Cuiviénen years uncounted ere the fathers of the stunted people awoke?"
'Of the Ruin of Doriath', The Silmarillion, ed. Christopher Tolkien. Published 1977.
So I think something that gets left out of the Thingol discourse (note: no Thingol bashing on this post please), is the textual history of the chapter 'Of the Ruin of Doriath'. Most of the published Silmarillion very closely follows drafts written by Tolkien. Not so this chapter, which Tolkien only ever got to in his first draft of the Silmarillion in the historical summary tradition as we know and love it, i.e., the 1930 Qenta Noldorinwa, where he wrote:
Thingol ... scanted his promised reward for their labour; and bitter words grew between them, and there was battle in Thingol's halls.
(Consider that the Thingol of the Narn i hin Hurin, often cited as a gentler and more complex character, was written in the 1950s.)
The only other time he touched it in more expansive prose format was in the late 1910s, when Doriath was Artanor and Thingol was Tinwelint and the Silmarils barely mattered. He again mentions these events in brief annalistic form in the Tales of Years, most lately revised in the 1950s.
502 The Nauglamir is wrought of the treasure of Glaurung, and the Silmaril is hung thereon. Thingol quarrels with the Dwarves who had wrought for him the necklace.
That's it. That's all Christopher Tolkien and Guy Gavriel Kay (hired to help write this gap in the narrative) had to work with. So they took Tolkien's words where they could get them, and here you can see they took a speech Tinwelint (later Thingol, but not the same character as he developed) spoke to Úrin (later Húrin, but also not the same character) and adapted it to another context, i.e., Thingol's conflict with the Dwarves over the Nauglamir.
In The War of the Jewels (HoMe 11), Christopher writes a revealing commentary on how he put together this chapter, and expresses regrets on how it was done. He admits, "How [my father] would have treated Thingol's behaviour towards the Dwarves is impossible to say."
Now, I really dislike the 'Christopher did him dirty' line of thinking. Working through HoMe, it's obvious Christopher did the best, most faithful-to-JRRT job anyone could have done putting his father's drafts into a cohesive narrative. But, in this case, Christopher (and Guy Kay) did tinker with Thingol's character in a way that, I think, he regretted, or at least questioned. And, unfortunately, the way Thingol speaks to the Dwarves here -- a speech Tolkien did not write -- has become a huge sticking point in fandom conversations.
Yes, it's canon that Naugrim means "stunted folk" in Sindarin. There's definitely tension and mutual disdain between Elves and Dwarves, no question about it. Does Thingol call the Dwarves an "uncouth race" and claim superiority as a lord of Elves in the published Silmarillion? Yes, he does. And so yes, it's canon and it's part of Thingol's character. But it's not the only part of Thingol's character, which is the point I always see the (shall we say) appreciators of nuance returning to.
But I've wanted to make this post about the textual history of what I would consider Thingol's worst moment for a while, since I've not seen it included in the conversation before.
"Canon" in Tolkien's legendarium is hard to define, as we know. (Personally, that's precisely what makes it so creatively inspiring to me.) But I think there are some places where it's harder to define than others, and this episode with Thingol and the Dwarves is one of them.
Take it as you will.
#thingol#meta#can't believe I'm entering this discourse but it finally Got To Me#there's more to this textual history than I've summarised here but I am trying my best not to write thousands of words

My Dragon Prince Boards season 5 part 1
So, now that season 5 is out I can share with you some of the work I did in the show as Storyboard Artist. This boards were done between the last months of 2021 and the first ones of 2022.
If you have questions about the process of boarding for the show please ask, just remember not to ask about seasons 6 and 7 :)
This is going to be more than one post, so It's divided by episode.
Episode 502
My first sequences was with Callum and Rayla in the forest in their way to Xadia.
Jack de Senna acting was so animated that was hard to not make Callum's acting super extra too. Callum/Rayla's dynamic is pretty fun.
My next sequence was with Claudia's team. A much dark mood than the previous one. Racquel Belmonte is my favorite voice actor in the show, so any chance to work with Claudia was a privilege. Also, Terry is a sweetheart.
The next one was when Viren meets Kpp'ar on his fever dream. This one was hard, is an slow moment that needs to feel tense but still interesting. I really love what the lighting and compositing team did with the lights here.
I also did the sequence when Callum and Rayla are leaving the comfy Inn, their interactions are so fun in that sequence, hahaha.
My last sequence on this episode (and my favorite of it) is the one where Callum and Rayla are crossing "The Scar".
I remember clearly reading on the script the line where Rayla is talking about how is a wound that is healing, and in one of the meetings I asked Aaron "Is Rayla talking about the scar or about their relationship?" ... well I leave the answer he gave me to your imagination ;) but after that meeting I added this shots :3
I really like the little symbolism at the end of the sequence with new life growing in a place like this. The world can heal.
Those were my contributions to episode 502, next post will be 505. Thanks for checking my art!

PnF Season 5 Title Speculation
Okay first thing's first, found out through this (click on "relationships"), which I found out through the PnF Wiki twitter.
As for the episode titles themselves, I will list what's been confirmed here.
501: Summer Block Buster/Cloudy with a Chance of Mom
502: Appetite for Adventure/License to Bust
503: Dry Another Day/Deconstructing Doof
504: Tropey McTropeface/Biblio-Blast!
505: A Chip to the Vet/More Than an Intern
506: The Aurora Perry-Alis/Lord of the Firesides
507: Agent T (for Teen)/The Haberdasher
508: [Title TBD]/Out of Character
Alright, now that's out of the way, time to get crazy and speculate nonsense based on titles alone
Summer Block Buster: I don't really have much to say besides the fact the title is very fitting. Yeah Summer Block Busters are a thing, but I won't be surprised if this episode is just one big grand re-entrance for everyone. I expect it to be very meta about it too, some of the dialogue Dan recorded for Doof even suggests this.
License to Bust: IDK what to say here but the whole pun on "licence to kill" (which is also the title of a Bond movie). I don't think puns are emblematic of much, but it's most explicit confirmation Candace is still trying to bust her brothers, which people understandable debated after Candace Against the Universe. Wonder if the licence thing is going to be relevant.
Dry Another Day: Second Bond title pun, lol.
Deconstructing Doof: Not sure what's being gotten at here, but it's an intriguing title to say the least. Very uh interesting. I could make a joke about how it's about how they don't know what to do with him post Summer but I'm not here for snarky commentary.
Tropey McTropeface: Uh... very interesting. Named after Boaty McBoatface, apparently. IDK what tropey nonsense they're getting up to though.
Biblio-Blast: I feel like SOMETHING is being said here but I don't know what. Was pointed out to me it could be something about weaponised books but IDK what that even looks like.
A Chip to the Vet: Okay this is very interesting. Firstly, it's probably Perry going to the vet. Secondly... one thing done for pets at vets is to get chipped. Whether it's just something the vet does or it's a deliberate request so they can get an idea of where Perry wanders off to... it's gonna be a big problem for Perry. Hopefully OWCA has a way to get around that lol.
More than an Intern: Carl episode. Nuff said. More trying to prove himself to Monogram probably even as Monogram treats him like shit, lmao.
The Aurora Perry-Alis: Aurora Borealis? At this time of year, at this time of- yeah we all know Steamed Hams probably. No idea what this will add up to honestly, maybe some kind of astronomical phenomenon that looks like a platypus, or the gang make one? If there's anything I have to say though, there's a chance it might run parallel to the next episode in a Bubble Boys or Bee Day type fashion, because...
Lord of the Firesides: Yeah you know I'm gonna be talking about what is obviously a Fireside Girls episode as that guy with the Isabella brainrot. So if it works like Temple of Sap or Bee Story, it COULD run parallel to the last episode, but that's not guaranteed. Either way... some friction between the Fireside Girls is going to come up. The title obviously references Lord of the Flies, aka the story where kids turn brutal and try to dominate each other or whatever. Maybe there's a split Isabella is caught in the middle of. Or perhaps... Isabella is removed as troop leader. She could make some serious blunder (could even be unrelated to Phineas even if that bias does affect her activities a lot), but maybe the other girls just end up being sick of Isabella's Phineas nonsense after something went too far. :P If Isabella is kicked out, I feel like she'd really struggle with that, because being a Fireside Girl is really important to her. Also, IDK who would replace Isabella as leader (honestly this ep would be good to just flesh out the other girls more in general), but I did see a hilarious suggestion that maybe it could be Candace. Would be similar to We Call it Maize (a very underrated episode IMO) but with more serious consequences. Not something I'm riding on, but it's a fun idea, especially if she proves she's more egotistical or just outright doesn't know what she's doing. Also saw a hilarious yet touching idea that somehow PHINEAS helps Isabella regain her leadership, he'd reassure her of why she's a good Fireside Girl and all that (cuz he believes in her to the ends of the Universe guys, shit my Phinabella is showing), or just somehow help her prove herself again. Also, the solution coming from what the girls thought was the problem would just be ironic and funny in a very PnF way. Either way... amazing at what a mere title can make me wonder.
Agent T (for Teen): Perry the teenage girl??? Okay so I've already seen this catch on from many people, but if there's one thing everyone in the Phineas and Ferb fandom wants, it's more Stacy and Perry interaction. Sure, maybe it could be someone else (Monty's a teenager, where's he been? maybe something leading to or following up Vanessa's internship based on when the revival takes place, or even some weird Candace shenanigans)... but come on. Even if it isn't, we all are gonna see this and hope it's Stacy related as she gets roped back into Perry's world again.
The Haberdasher: So something to do with selling men's clothing? Definitely a scheme PnF could enact. Also there's the meaning of stuff for things like sewing but that's supposedly British and the men's clothing thing is American soooo we know what's more likely. I wonder who's gonna get the glow up though? Baljeet? Jeremy? Maybe the guys just wanna slay? Shit, Phinabella brainrot is back, what happens when she sees whatever Phineas puts on? :v Of course, this could somehow tie to the B-plot too, maybe Doof needs to dress nicely for something.
TBD: Truly a profound title. So much is said with mere letters... okay yeah I can't do this lol
Out of Character: So much is said with so little. The first thing that came to mind was once someone asked Dan and Swampy at I believe SDCC if they'd ever do a personality swap episode, and their response was to look at each other and be like "maybe we will now" (it was likely too late before the show ended then but yeah). Point is... maybe we're finally seeing this idea. It can be very easy to have characters act out of character through whatever means ie an inator or invention, but if you're going to name an episode that, I think you're going to have something that really commits to that premise. There is ENDLESS potential of weird dynamic shifts you could do with this, it could be truly hilarious. Maybe it's also body swap shenanigans, but well I think I made my case for personality swap. Just imagine Perry trying to take over the Tri-State Area, or Baljeet bullying Buford, or Ferb talking while Phineas is silent, or *could go on for hours*.
Soooo yeah that's way more speculation than I expected, let's see if any of this leads to anything lol

Who came back?
Well, it's likely Morgan...
Sorry to disappoint!
But it's actually good news for us, why? As I've mentioned in past posts, everything from the time of Coda is being repeated.
And that would include the return of Morgan.
We have just seen a repeat of the coda symbol in DD episode 6. It's the first time we have seen it since the episode Coda.
And we saw two of them very close together, twins.
Morgan's return back in season 5 was heavily linked to the Coda, so much so that he actually touched the Coda symbol while being in a Coda to the episode called Coda! Phew...😧 follow that if you can!
I've mentioned how the convergence of signs will proceed Beth's return, and those signs will be the same but inverted to how she left.
So when we see a combination of Grady and Terminus symbolism plus throw in Morgan possibly returning, we know her return is very close.
In other words, what happened in sequence when she left will happen in reverse when she returns.
In the past, Morgan lost his son, causing him to eventually try and track down Rick, leading him to Alexandria.
At present, Morgan in FTWD gained a daughter (Mo) and left the group, taking his daughter to head out and find Rick Grimes. He is heading back to Alexandria once again but with inverted circumstances.
In the Coda of Coda, where Morgan touches the Coda 😁 we see Morgan first on the train tracks to Terminus. He doesn't go because of Rick's sign. This detour leads him to the coda symbol on the tree and he touches it.
After touching the coda, he then goes to a school where he finds music magazines and a Beth lookalike walker, who he stabs in the head.
He then makes his way to the church, but before getting there, he sees this symbol on a tree.
The logical negation symbol basically reverses the meaning of something.
We saw another one of these symbols in episode 502 where Bob gets taken from the church and taken to the school by Gareth from Terminus.
In fact, we see the negation symbol, and then the very next scene is Carol and Daryl taking off in the car to find Beth.
Everything between the two symbols could be considered false and opposite, including Beth's death!
Beth dying between these two negation symbols: = Beth didn't die.
After seeing this negation symbol, Morgan heads into the church, and the first thing he touches is the cross ✝️.
Bob and Morgan follow the same path from church to school but reversed. After they come across the negation symbol.
Now it's very possible that Morgan came across Beth back in the day, and we just don't know about it yet.
I've talked about the White House filming spoilers from season 5 before and how Emily was seen filming at these houses, but we never saw the footage on the show. So it's believed they are holding onto for a flashback sequence when she returns.
But some may not remember, it was also speculated that Morgan was seen filming at night in the same location.
Overall, whatever happens, the fact Morgan is returning to find Rick Grimes means Beth will be coming back too, very soon. As the negation symbol suggests, she will be very much alive.
I am often talking about the use of the biblical last days themes to tell the story. Well, the negation symbol is actually another addition to this.
The prophet Isaiah talks about the negation symbol believe it or not.
Isaiah was known for prophesying about the last days.
In Isaiah 5:20-21 the prophet illuminates the heart condition of those who have become corrupt in their thinking. He states: Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness: Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter.
He talks about a time when everything is the opposite to the truth, as in, good is bad and bad is good. AKA the logical negation symbol.
Interestingly, Isaiah says Woe to anyone who does this.
Woe is a term of judgement. Whenever a prophet or Christ uses the term woe, it's to pronounce a bad end and bad death for the object of the woe.
Bob touched the symbol of woe as he leaned against the tree to cry, and in the very next episode, he dies a very bad death.
Gareth walks past the negation symbol and also has a very bad death at the hands of Rick's red machete.
It may not bode well for poor Morgan in the end that he also walks past it. The coda symbol seems to have moved his woe further down the timeline.
In addition to all this, we first see the negation symbol in episode 5.02. The bible verse about the negation is found in Isaiah 5.20, and Bob dies a very bad death in episode 3.
Isaiah talks about those who turn bad to good and good to bad as corrupted in their thinking.
So It's no wonder that Gareth and co receive the Woe as they had obviously become corrupted. Who thinks eating other humans is ok? 😵💫
But what about Bob? Well, with Bob, they portrayed it in a different way. His flesh was corrupted. He was tainted meat! 🍖 🥓 🥩 🍖 🤢
Added extra...
There is a reason Daryl currently has a black eye again, just as Carol is about to be reintroduced.
It's because this all happened once before.

Personally, I'm guessing 3, 4 or 5. In the tdp discord, someone said their favorite was episode 2 of season 5 and the head writer, Devon Giehl, said "until 605" and considering 502 was very packed with rayllum crumbs, this might be implying 605 will have rayllum content that we will love even more than what was in 502. Maybe it's a kiss. Maybe it's something better than a kiss, and a kiss happens in an earlier episode. I'm probably a little bit delusional but whatever

what are some of your favorite sitcom tropes + what are some we should expect in the story? 👀 sorry, i just love sitcoms!
trying to focus on more "big picture" tropes instead of the small ones (like when someone stalks to the bathroom only to scream when they see someone they don’t know showering :P) here HMMMMM
the episode where each character has their side of the story and the episode tells each perspective in flashbacks (my favorite)
drunken confessions,
GETTING STUCK IN AN ELEVATOR,
going to another location to stay (like going to a log cabin in winter or going hiking),
game night episodes,
chaotic weddings,
public grand gestures/confessions at said weddings :P
main character has two dates on the same night and jumps between the two,
attractive neighbor has no water and goes to apartment to shower and chaos ensues
landlord pays a visit
visiting a hometown for a serious or unexpected reason
sibling from out of town drops in unexpectedly and stays for a while
the gang getting trapped somewhere (like in a basement) and one of them is freaking out
Halloween party with costume misunderstandings
Christmas party episodes^ the grand gesture at the airport
^going on vacation at a resort and more chaos ensues
when two “friends” accidentally kiss in the most ridiculous way
when the other roommates trap the two bickering roommates in a room and refuses to let them out until they resolve their issues
there's a lot :P you can be sure to see tropes like these in 502 :P
