Waves of Imagination – Agora, Athens por Julia Anna Gospodarou Por Flickr: My last fine art architectural street photograph that I shot during my latest private photography workshop in Athens. This is a new genre and approach to photography that I'm working on and I'm talking more about it here blog.juliaannagospodarou.com/fine-art-architectural-stree... Looking forward to meeting the students of my next workshop in Chicago Oct 17-18. The workshop was sold out and I'm offering 3 more spots, since I still have quite a few requests. Thank you for the trust. I delved further into the subject and was excited and inspired by the concept of fine art photography, especially on the context of architecture, of course, but also in general. Fine art photos are photographs created purely for their aesthetic and imaginative qualities. Fine art photographers create work that goes beyond merely capturing what is in front of the camera. I think that's one of the biggest incentives of photography, to create art through the images, not just blunt photography.
In terms of architecture, this genre can probably still be described as relatively young, because the pioneers are still active. These include, for example, Joel Tjintjelaar, Julia Anna Gospodarou and Kevin Saint Grey.
What Joel Tjintjelaar today calls vision or Julia Anna Gospodarou with her photographic neologism envisionography are new words for what Ansel Adams already called Previsualisation. Previsualisation is the essential component of what is commonly called "fine art" photography: It is not documented, but an image is drawn according to the photographer's ideas and goals. A photographic vision for a motif cannot emerge if the motif does not fascinate the photographer. But what is it that makes architecture so appealing, so special?
Everyone has their own answer to the question, I find the following quote from Le Corbusier very informative:
"Architecture is the artful, correct and magnificent play of the structures gathered below the light."
This quote encompasses two of the three essential components of fine art architectural photography for me: the light and the building structures. As a passive observer of architecture (as opposed to an active architect), I interpret the latter as the interplay of material and form. For me, the missing ingredient is time, i.e. the change in the effect of the building structure as the light changes. Every good photo is born with the photographer asking what he wants to say with the photo or what mood he wants to convey.
I am convinced that Le Corbusier's quote above can be translated into black and white photography: There is no need for colour to represent light, shadow and their transitions. The guiding motif of minimalism then logically leads to the use of black and white.

Manhattan Blues - New York City por Julia Anna Gospodarou Por Flickr: www.juliaannagospodarou.com/Architecture/Architecture/i-P... Here is also my latest post on the blog: Top 5 Tips for Creating Original Fine Art Photography blog.juliaannagospodarou.com/top-5-tips-creating-original... I’m happy to go back in NYC next week to teach a sold out (en)Visionography workshop and meet my students. Looking forward to that. This image is an 11-shot (YES 11 shots!!!) panorama (you don’t want to know how heavy that file was) of Lower Manhattan at sunset and I’ve shot it last year. it is a continuation of my series of duo-chromatic experiments in blue that I started a couple of years ago and worked on and off on it. Black and white it still The King for me but here I am experimenting with something new. I think the spirit of B&W is more than just about the actual use of the black and the white but it is something deeper. It has to do with light and not only with color or the lack of it. This is what I’m studying in this duo chromatic blue series. I’m trying to re-create the spirit of B&W and the emotion it creates, but not by actually using black and white but other duo chromatic combinations. One of the reason is to show that I is not the technique or color range that creates the emotion in art but it is the deeper meaning and the understanding of how to connect with the viewer on more basic intuitive levels, by offering the mind and heart a different look on things. I was always fascinated by the dialogue between two colors and how some colors are able to communicate with each other so well. There is an entire theory as for why this is happening and I’m building on that, but this is a discussion for another time since it’s a longer talk. I’ll better do that on my blog. And who knows, my next experimentations might be with psychedelic colors that awaken the senses in an extreme way. I like extremes in art and emotions so that would fit my artistic style. But for the moment I’m floating on a sea of blues… ________________________________________________ Book - From Basics to Fine Art – B&W | Website | Facebook | Facebook Page | Google+ | 500px | Art Limited | 1x.com | Twitter | LinkedIn

Urban Saga I - Chicago Skyline by Julia Anna Gospodarou Via Flickr: _EXPLORED - August 27th, 2015_ I finished this image a while ago but I'm only now presenting it publicly. In the meanwhile it has won a few important awards I'm proud of, like Gold medal and 2 Silver medals at PX3 2015 Prix de la Photographie Paris and FAPA 2015 Fine Art Photo Awards London, where it was category winner. I'll be back to Chicago very soon as I've just launched my Chicago Workshop 2105, on October 17-18, the weekend of the famous festival Open House Chicago when more than 200 iconic buildings are open to visit and photograph. There are 10 spots available and a special price for the next 2 weeks.
