FAQ
What is the WIP Big Bang? Good question! This is a Big Bang with one goal in mind: to clean out your fanfic drafts folder. These are stories that were unfinished for whatever reason, that authors returned to and completed, and the art that goes with them!
Do I need a Livejournal/Dreamwidth/AO3/etc. account to participate? No! You don’t have to have an account on anything to participate, though you will need to have somewhere to post your finished work. Having one or more accounts will help for you to follow what is going on with the bang (we crosspost to Dreamwidth and Tumblr and heavily use our Discord server at the moment), but they are not required to participate. You can always leave comments anonymously or with an opensource ID.
How many fics can we sign up for? We absolutely don’t mind multiple sign-ups. I know one year someone submitted 50 fics to finish, and got at least half of them done. We just ask that when you sign up with more than one fic you give each fic a unique user ID (please do not use the same ID for all your fics...it’s important to have different IDs for the check-ins).
Will I get emails about the bang? We do send out some emails, mostly for snippets and art claims and to ensure communication between authors and artists, but please do NOT rely on getting an email to remind you of due dates. We currently do not keep an updated email list of participants, so we only send individual emails as needed rather than mass emails.
However, email is the fastest way to communicate with the mods. If you have any questions or are having trouble communicating with your artist/author, please do email us! We will do our best to respond quickly.
What do you mean by minimum word count to enter? This is a WIP Big Bang, therefore we ask you to have at least 500 words of your story drafted when you enter.
Can an outline count towards those first 500 words that are needed at sign up? We have admitted work on an outline before so yes, if your outline is fleshed out enough to cover a 7,500 word+ fic, we’ll allow it.
Are multi-chapter fics allowed? Yes, multi-chapter fics are allowed and even more so encouraged if your fic is lengthy.
What about fics that are already posted on ao3 in part? Do those qualify for the bang? It's okay if you have posted a few chapters of your fic already (you never know when the muse deserts you, after all), we just require you to refrain from posting more until posting begins here. All we ask is that you not post any public updates to the fic until September 1st (or August 1st with the mod’s okay). We don’t want you to lose kudos and comments so don’t worry about pulling the fic down, just hold off on updates for now.
Is there a minimum word count? 7,500 words for each finished fic, but the sky's the limit, right?
I see that the fic minimum is 7500 words and that published WIPs are acceptable - but what if the WIP I’m considering is already more than 7500 words? Is the expectation to add an additional 7500 to it? No. You can add as much or as little as you need to finish the story, though we do expect at least 1,000 or so new words if your WIP already meets the word count.
What happens if an author finishes the fic they signed up with but it’s less than 7,500 words? The intent was to go over the minimum but once they got into it the story was shorter than they thought and stretching it out would make it less good. Do they have to drop out at that point? By all means, we want your stories to feel as natural as possible, and if it’s under 7,500 words you may have two options:
1 - Drop the fic for the main BB event, post it now, and wait to post it to our AO3 collection in February when we run our International Fanworks Day celebration of finishing fics that are less than 7,500 words when finished. There’s no art for the fic, but bragging rights are posted to the communities for a week.
2 - If there are enough fics that fit that category, we can do a special day of posting the fics, but you’ll have to forgo art for the fic. I, as a mod, would probably pick November 30th for the posting day, as it’s the last day of posting for the bang and I don’t think anyone will mind more than one fic that day. You can post bragging rights to the community and share the fic with everyone.
Is there anything not allowed? As long as you wrote it and you want to finish it, you're welcome to participate. RPS/RPF is fine. Incest pairings are fine. Things like that I know have been hinted at in questions asked and as long as you tag for them, we’ll allow it. Also, canon settings with mostly OCs is allowed. We just ask that it be tagged properly with any content warnings you would deem fit and be given the appropriate rating for the level of sex/violence there is in the fic. Just bear in mind that while original work is allowed you may not get art for it.
I have a fic I wrote a few years ago, but only the first couple chapters are posted on AO3 because I was never happy with the rest of it and knew it needed major revision. Is that something I could use for WIP Big Bang? The entire fic has been posted, but only on one platform, and it would be rewritten for AO3 and WIPBB. I think revising a fic for posting would work, as long as you have at least 500 words done, will have 7,500 words at a minimum when it’s done, and are planning to add more to the fic. Simply rewriting what you have would be a gray area, but if you’re going to take stuff out and add new scenes, either in the old scenes place or on its own, you should be fine.
What's the etiquette around OC-centric stories? Ones that are set in a well known fandom and use several characters, but still lean a lot on original characters? Are they discouraged, or fine? Based on my own personal experience making art for a story that had a heavy OC presence, it’s not something we discourage at all, but be forewarned when it comes to the art accompanying your fic your artist may not be able to incorporate the OCs into your art. Not everyone makes art of a hand-drawn or digitally drawn nature, so it helps if you have people for face claims ahead of art submissions, and you and your artist communicate regularly. You can also end up with art not featuring the OCs at all, just the canon characters, which is not necessarily a bad thing. Your other options are to bring in an artist you trust with your vision of your OC or to make your own art (we do allow that, we just need to be told during the check-in before art that you’re bringing in your own artist if you go that route, or that you’re doing your own art…there will not be a need to sign up in the artist’s sign up, however), or to opt-out of art entirely. So there’s plenty of options to call on when it comes time for art.
What are 'check-ins’? These are a way for us to see what you've been up to and for you to make sure you're still on track. It will give you a little nudge/reminder if you need it, but they are not compulsory. Basically a form is posted that you fill out with your user ID (unique for each fic) and a checkbox to let us know you’re still participating, plus a section for any notes for the mods.
How are the check in IDs used? They are solely for the mods organizational purposes. Each ID being for a separate story allows us to keep all the information you submit during check-ins and for snippets in one line on our spreadsheet. You don’t have to share your check in IDs with anyone else if you don’t want to.
How much progress should authors be making between each checkpoint? (Percentage-wise from our estimated total wc, I guess?) Ideally, with each check-in, you should be at least 25% closer to finishing. The end word count only really matters in that the fic needs to be at least 7,500 words when done, so it’s more your progress towards finishing that should be measured, not so much the word count.
What are the snippets requirements? In order to allow the artists to make art for the story they claimed, we require you to supply three snippets from your fic, between 500 – 1500 words each. The snippets will be sent to the artist after they have claimed your story. They're to help the artist match your story for artwork the best way he or she possibly can. It’s helpful to choose scenes or parts of scenes that you feel best represent your fic, but don’t feel like they have to be perfect to be submitted. Along with the snippets, we will send your artist the basic fic info and your email, so the two of you can collaborate more if you would both like.
What are the rough drafts requirements? For the rough drafts, stories should be at least 80% complete. You will not have to turn them in to us, just assure us that you are at that point. Anything less is at the discretion of the mods and those authors should speak to one of the mods asap.
What is, and do I need, a beta? A beta is basically a person who goes over your work to make sure that there are no spelling/grammatical errors and they can even be of assistance in helping you with story lines, etc. It is highly recommended that a beta looks over your work before posting. If you are having trouble finding a beta, try this post.
Where can I post my fic/art? Stories and art can be posted to your own personal journal, Tumblr, ff-net, AO3, or wherever you like. For those of you with AO3 accounts, we will set up a collection that will go live on the day of the posting. If you don’t currently have an AO3 account but would like one, you can contact the mods for an invitation code to see if they have any available. You can also add yourself to the AO3 Invites Request queue.
What does posting look like? Do we have to post the whole thing on the day, or can we stretch it out between when posting starts and our date? I’ve had a few longfics get killed by big bangs forcing posting to happen on a given day, and would prefer to avoid that if possible. For most fics, posting to AO3/FF.net/other places will be allowed to start in September and you can stretch it out as many posts as you want as long as the complete fic is up by your posting date (and posting dates go from September 8th to November 15th with two weeks for emergency posting). However, you can send us an ask/e-mail about posting as early as August if you have an extremely long fic/something with a long posting schedule. Mostly what we want is the fic to be completely up on the website of your choice by your posting date, and I know some people don’t want to overwhelm their readers. So we want to work with writers to give them ample time to post the story up to their posting date.
Now, as for posting to the communities, you get to choose which day your link to the story and bragging rights are posted, and as I said, we have a range of dates from September 8th to November 15th with two to three stories posting a day. If for some reason you miss your posting date, you have until November 30th to post to the community, during the two weeks of emergency posting, with a possible extension after that due to the amount of participants needing to post later. So hopefully there should be plenty of time to get a longfic up and posted to the website of your choice and our BB.
Will the three snippets per story we have to send in be the ones we want the artist to make art for? Or can it just be random snippets and then later the artist and I can check together to see which scenes would work best for art? So ideally, you and the artist will be communicating once you’re each sent each other’s contact information, and you’ll give your artist a chance to read all that you’ve written at that point. That’s what happens in most cases. If your fic gets picked by an artist and they don’t work with you, then the snippets you sent will be what the artwork will be based on. It’s a good idea to know that, while most of the time the artists work closely with the authors, there are a few exceptions to that.
How do I know when to post? Posting will be tiered; you'll each get your own posting date that you and your artist will decide on together. There will probably be four fics, plus art, posting per day between September 8th and November 30th. The post with date claims will go up on August 23rd and you'll have to choose your date by September 1st.
Posting of chapters on AO3 or your own blog (or wherever you usually post) generally starts September 1st, but you can post earlier (as early as August 1st) if you let us know you have a long story. However, posting has to be finished by your chosen posting date to the comm. One of the things we're hoping to do with the posted dates is to give everybody on the comm a little bragging time in the spotlight. You know, "this story was incomplete for this long, but I finished this sucker." If you don't have time to post your bragging rights to the communities on your chosen posting date, you can queue up a post ahead of time and we can post it on the date you picked or you can email us your bragging rights and we can post by proxy for you. Either way works for us. Art will be due on the chosen posting date to the comm.
What am I posting to the Livejournal/Dreamwidth/Tumblr community if I’m posting the fic elsewhere? You’ll be posting what we call bragging rights. It’s a small form you fill out and post to the community with a link to your fic (we’ll enable moderated posting to the Tumblr, Livejournal and Dreamwidth communities for members on August 8th). We will post a template for posting artwork and stories to the comm closer to the posting date.
Is there a minimum/maximum requirement for my art? There is no strict minimum, but we do ask artists to remember that the authors are writing a minimum of 7,500 words and your artwork should reflect that. You can do anything you like, including banners, wallpapers, icons, mixes, vids, gif sets, picspams, etc. Suggested guidelines for art are 500x500px (or equivalent of smaller pieces like banner + spacers, cover + icons, etc.) for traditional art, digital art, and manips; 2 minutes for vids; 10 songs + cover art for mixes; and 6 images for gif sets and picspams. We also ask that when you are in contact with the author, you work with them to see if there is anything specific they would like (i.e. a wallpaper, book cover, etc.). The art is your work, but having ideas doesn't hurt!
What are 'art claims'? The claims are when anonymous summaries of the story go up for artists to choose from. Artists sign-ups and art claims are the same thing; we use one form for both things, and that way the authors don’t have to sign up for an event they may not end up participating in. It is based on a 'first come, first served' basis and artists may choose up to three potential stories (in case their first choice is unavailable). If there are more stories than artists, there will be a second round of claims wherein artists may choose a second story to work with. And on until all stories are claimed for art.
If a fic up for claiming is rated explicit (R, NC-17, etc.), please only claim the story if you are over 18 years of age. Some authors may be uncomfortable working with underage artists on explicit works. We do not verify ages in any way for the bang, so this is solely on the honor system.
What do I do if I have problems or concerns about my author/artist? Sometimes authors and artists do not get along and this may cause problems with working together. If this happens to be the case with you, please email the mods and we will try to do what we can so that everyone has a chance to have fun at WIP Big Bang!
If you have not heard from your author/artist in some time after trying to contact them, you can reach out to us via email and we will try to get in touch with them for you.
Can I get an extension? Community extensions may be given in the event that the majority of the authors/artists need one. They may also be given individually under certain circumstances, but this must be discussed with the mods and will only be a short extension for posting. If you are certain that you won’t be able to finish your story in time, please let us know by July 13th.
Can I swap out a fic if my muse abandons it again? When you sign up, you give us the information on the potential fic(s) you want to write. If, say, one fic isn’t working but one you didn’t sign up for is, you can switch them out while letting the mods know if you need to change a user ID you used. It is absolutely okay to switch fics all the way up until snippets are due. By then, we hope you’ll have however many fics you plan on doing to at least 80% completion since rough drafts are due not much later. Just drop an email to the mods at [email protected] with the new information (title, fandom, etc) and if you want a new sign in ID or plan to use the same one for the fic you’re replacing it with.
Can I drop out? We have high hopes that everybody who signs up can actually finish the round and share in the joy of the reveal with us, but real life can unfortunately get in the way and we completely understand! If you feel like you just cannot finish in time and no amount of assistance from us can help you, just let us know by August 13th (if at all possible).
Is it possible to be banned? We do have a banned users list. We hope to use this to encourage participants who are having issues to communicate with the mods. We want to help you! The way the ban works is that participants, either authors and artists, will be banned for dropping out without notifying a mod. This means that anyone who has not posted or talked to a mod by the time the posting period ends will be banned. Dropping out is not in and of itself a banning offense, so please do not panic if you have to drop out! We understand that there are many reasons you may need to drop, and we want to work with you.
Bans will last one round or until the issue is resolved, whichever comes first. To resolve a ban, authors will have to finish and post the story they signed up with and artists will have to finish and post the art for the story they claimed. Three bans will result in a permanent ban from the bang.
Are we allowed to participate without joining the Discord? Absolutely! The Discord server is optional, as just another way to interact with your fellow writers and get updates on important dates. It’s not mandatory you join, however.
I was just wondering if there’s any way to enter the bang anonymously? Like would it be okay to put our work in an anonymous collection on ao3 or something? Unfortunately, I can’t think of a way for that to work. The collection that we use is moderated but it’s not anonymous, and there are the bragging posts that you post on your posting day, which you would have your username on whichever platform you use.
I was just wondering whether I'm sworn to secrecy on which fics I'll be finishing up, or if I can shout it out to the world? No one is sworn to secrecy once they’ve signed up (aside from posting new parts to fic that’s already up somewhere…we ask that you refrain from doing that until at least July 1st)! We will be running Word Wars, where you can add more to a fic in a certain amount of time, and Whine Bars, where you can complain or ask for help or whatever else you feel like talking about when it comes to struggling with a fic, all after sign-ups end on a weekly basis, plus there’s the Discord server for chatting with your fellow authors and artists.
I have a question/concern that’s not mentioned here. If you need help, you can always contact a mod and we will do our best to make sure that you get your story/art finished. The best and fastest method of contact is through our email, [email protected].

title: when the moon descends
pairing(s): jing yuan, reader
characters: jing yuan, reader, fu xuan, yanqing
word count: 4.4k
synopsis: in the midst of his daily routine, jing yuan finds solace and delight in the presence of a certain individual who never fails to brighten his morning.
Tumblr media
As the first rays of the sun creep into his chambers like tendrils of light, Jing Yuan feels as if he's being beckoned by a siren's call to stay in the comfort of his bed. The weight of his responsibilities as the Luofu General bears down upon his chest, compelling him to evade the challenges of the forthcoming day. However, he understands that yielding to such temptation is not an option, for the affairs of the Xianzhou Luofu demands his undivided attention and his subordinates depend on him to steer them through the tumultuous waters. So, with great effort, Jing Yuan shakes off the heavy cloak of lethargy and begins his day.
Jing Yuan acknowledges that there have been instances in which he has entrusted some of his obligations to the Master Diviner, Fu Xuan. But he knows that he can't rely solely on her, for there are still other pressing matters that require his attention. Though discreetly.
It's like a delicate balance, trying to delegate tasks to others while also shouldering his own share of responsibilities. Despite the weight that comes with it, Jing Yuan knows that it's all part of being a leader—the ability to juggle multiple tasks and make the tough decisions that can impact the lives of many.
Although Jing Yuan is tempted to stay in bed all day, the sheer amount of paperwork on his office desk is urging him to begin his day. It is imperative that he completes those towering documents as soon as possible, not only to free up his leisure time, but also because they contain crucial information that requires his attention. The requests and reports from various commissions must be addressed promptly by the General.
Who knows, maybe amongst these papers lies something that will pique his interest and provide a welcome distraction from his monotonous routine.
Jing Yuan starts his day with a heavy heart, knowing that his responsibilities as a General would be demanding, but he continues to walk with a purpose.
As he traverses the bustling streets of Luofu, people pay their respects to him, bowing in reverence to his position. His subordinates, with their eyes locked on their tasks, take a moment to acknowledge their General's presence and extend their greetings. The aura around him demands respect and deference, marking him as a man of great authority and responsibility.
To Jing Yuan, his routine was as steady as the flow of the river, never faltering or swaying. The daily tasks and responsibilities that came with his position were second nature to him, like a well-oiled machine that worked without a hitch. The only thing that could disrupt the serene pattern of his life was a crisis that threatened the peace and stability of Xianzhou Luofu. In such dire circumstances, Jing Yuan would act with urgency, convening a meeting of the commission heads to ensure the safety of the people he swore to protect.
As he enters his office, Jing Yuan's eyes are immediately drawn to the pile of papers resting atop his desk, a sight that never fails to elicit a deep sigh of weariness from the Xianzhou General. It is a task that he cannot avoid, no matter how much he wishes to do so, an inescapable responsibility that weighs heavily on the shoulders of the wise and valiant leader of Luofu.
A defeated scoff escapes his lips as he trudges towards his desk, mentally preparing himself for the monotonous task that has become his daily routine.
Jing Yuan peruses through the stack of papers, carefully analyzing each document before signing off on the ones he approves of, he separates them into two piles–one for those that require immediate attention, and the other for those that need further work.
As Jing Yuan's eyes dart back and forth across the pages, a sudden knock at his door jolts him out of his concentration like a bolt of lightning. And then, he hears the sound of a voice that is as soothing and sweet as honey, a voice that always makes his heart skip a beat with anticipation. In an instant, his eyes light up like stars in the sky, sparkling with excitement at the prospect of seeing the owner of that enchanting voice.
Because it is none other than his most favorite being. (Name).
Jing Yuan grants you permission to enter, his gaze fixated on the door as he waits for your arrival with the eagerness of a child anticipating their turn on the playground. When the door creaks open, his eyes are immediately drawn to your radiant face, despite the pile of documents clutched in your arms. The General pays no attention to the paperwork, his entire focus directed solely at the sight of your smile directed towards him. To him, nothing else holds as much importance as you, his beloved partner, who never fails to bring a smile to his face and ease his worries.
"Good morning, General," you address with a courteous bow, paying respect to the esteemed leader of Luofu.
The General gazes at you with his customary smile, despite having previously expressed his desire for you to address him by name in private. Yet, you persist with your habit of addressing him with formality, even in the privacy of his office.
Jing Yuan comprehends your predicament fully. Your clandestine affair is something that must remain a secret from the rest of the Xianzhou, and given that you are under his command, he acknowledges the importance of maintaining a professional demeanor.
At first, Jing Yuan was puzzled as to why you wanted your relationship with him to be kept under wraps, but after learning that you were not yet prepared to reveal your relationship to the natives of Xianzhou Luofu, he acquiesces to your request. Your thoughts and emotions matter to him, and he respects your decision. He'll patiently wait for the day when you feel comfortable enough to share your romance with everyone.
Jing Yuan understands the gravity of the situation, and he doesn't want to put any undue pressure on you. He knows that if your relationship is made public, it will draw the attention of many, and it will become a hot topic of discussion amongst the citizens.
Being the honorable and respectable General of Xianzhou Luofu, he is aware that his actions are under constant scrutiny, and any news of his personal life could easily become tomorrow's headline.
Therefore, he doesn't want to risk ruining the comforting and peaceful company he already had with you. No.
Being with you brings Jing Yuan a sense of serenity that he seldom experiences amidst the chaos of his duties as a general. You are his sanctuary, a tranquil harbor where he can dock his restless heart. Listening to your voice and watching the subtle movements of your lips as you speak is akin to watching a mesmerizing dance. Your eyes, like two shining stars, holding his gaze in a trance, and he finds himself lost in the vastness of their beauty. In your company, he is content to forget the world and the worries that come with it.
Despite his reputation for being a quick dozer, Jing Yuan never wants to miss a moment of being with you and hearing about your day. He knows that being in your company is a rare and precious indulgence, like savoring a delectable treat that is too fleeting and too limited.
Although he's constrained by the secrecy of your relationship, Jing Yuan remains hopeful for a time when he can freely spend his days with you without fear of being exposed. He yearns for the day when he can finally engage in all the activities he's been dreaming of without any reservations. He's optimistic that this day will come, and until then, he will cherish every moment he gets to spend with you in private, relishing the comfort and safety that your company provides.
The prospect of that day fills him with immense anticipation, and he longs for it to arrive.
“Here are the reports of the Sky-Faring commission, General.” You hand over the reports to Jing Yuan, not daring to meet his intense gaze.
His amber eyes seem to penetrate through your very being, leaving you feeling exposed and vulnerable. It's as if he's peering into the depths of your soul, examining every thought and emotion. You can't help but feel uneasy under his watchful stare. After all, it's Jing Yuan, the highly respected General of the Luofu Cloud Knights, and his imposing presence is impossible to ignore. Despite being his secret lover, you still feel conscious of your every move and appearance in his presence.
“(Name), come here,” Jing Yuan utters in a gentle tone, but the authoritative edge in his voice is unmistakable.
At the sound of Jing Yuan's voice, you are inexorably pulled towards him like a moth to a flame. The gentle curve of his lips and the tender warmth in his amber gaze resonate with you, enveloping you in a comforting cocoon of affection. It's almost as though he has woven a spell that ensnares your every movement, compelling you to draw near to him with a sense of captivation and awe. His commanding presence is both palpable and irresistible, and you find yourself drawn to him without any conscious effort.
You glide over to Jing Yuan, and it prompts him to swivel his body to face you. He's perched on his chair, and as he gazes up at you, you catch his amber eyes with your own.
Upon locking gazes with you, Jing Yuan experiences a surge of emotions that swiftly courses through his being, evoking the rapid flutters of a hummingbird's wings in his chest. He finds himself captivated by the sight of you, who exudes an aura of luminosity and grace that enraptured his senses. Even in the absence of the sun's warmth, you shine like a celestial body, illuminating his world and imbuing it with a sense of wonder and admiration. As he continues to gaze upon you, his affection for you only grows stronger, as he is powerless to resist the alluring force of your magnetic pull.
In his subliminal state, he extends his hand to grasp your hands in his sizable ones, sensing the heat emanating from your palms, and he relishes the sensation of it.
In this very moment, as Jing Yuan finally takes hold of your hands, he begins to caress your knuckles with his thumbs in the most gentle and soothing way possible, treating them as if they were a delicate and fragile crystal that he is afraid of damaging. As he continues to rub, his fingers slide effortlessly in between yours, elegantly interlacing and entwining them together. The unexpected tenderness of his touch causes a warm blush to spread across your cheeks, taking you by surprise, yet you remain motionless, as if tamed by his presence. Although he can feel the faint tremble in your hands, he is grateful that you do not pull away, and he continues to hold onto you, cherishing this rare moment of intimacy.
As he tried to contain his amusement, a small, almost imperceptible chuckle escaped from Jing Yuan's lips, betraying his attempt at composure.
Jing Yuan couldn't resist the urge to tease you a bit and asked, "Are you feeling nervous?"
He felt a subtle tremor in your hand, signaling him that you were indeed feeling apprehensive. The sight of your sudden reaction elicited a sense of amusement from within him, causing the corners of his lips to stretch into a small, yet visible grin. However, his amusement was short-lived, for he soon sensed that you had regained your composure and settled into a state of calmness.
"General, I suggest you should release me. It would not be ideal for us to be seen in this manner," you calmly remind, conscious of the potential consequences of being caught in such a compromising position. However, you are unable to deceive the sharp eyes of Jing Yuan, who can sense the underlying emotions beneath your composed exterior.
"Let them see it." You became aware of Jing Yuan's remark, and let out a soft gasp at his boldness.
Even though he had previously expressed his intention to honor your wishes and wait for you, he spoke truthfully at that moment. It was of no consequence to him if anyone were to witness your intimate exchange, as he desired for everyone to acknowledge that you were solely his.
"General—"
"Jing Yuan," he interjects, longing for the sound of his name on your lips.
"But we're—" again with him interrupting you.
"I have but one desire, (Name), and that is to hear you speak my name," Jing Yuan implores with a subtle plea, his grip on your hands tight as he urges you to comply with his request. His eyes seem to gleam under the sun's rays, almost as if they were hypnotic, coaxing you to surrender to him.
Your lips tighten into a firm line, unwilling to yield to Jing Yuan's indolence yet determined nature. It's one of his many qualities that leaves you with no choice but to relent and give in to his wishes.
Therefore, you relinquish, your shoulders dropping in resignation as you release a defeated sigh.
"Jing Yuan," you utter, finally giving in to his request. He couldn't hide his delight upon hearing his name from your lips. Even if it may seem insignificant to others, it means the world to the General, enough to brighten his mood.
"Very well," he replies with a subtle nod. "I earnestly request that you continue to address me by my name when we are in private. It's not desirable for me to feel a sense of separation from you due to our current circumstances. Do you comprehend my sentiments, (Name)?"
A smile graces Jing Yuan's face as his gaze lingers on you, and you take a brief moment to observe him before answering.
"I understand, but we must stay vigilant. There are prying eyes everywhere you go. I do not wish to bring any more difficulties upon you," you admit bashfully, averting your eyes from his.
Jing Yuan squeezes his grip on you and speaks in a soft tone, "Look at me, (Name)." He waits until he has your full attention. "I want you to understand that if it concerns you, it is not a burden to me. You hold great significance in my life, and I assure you that any inconvenience you may cause is of no concern. In fact, I would be delighted if you require my assistance.”
Jing Yuan's voice is gentle, reminiscent of the gentle caress of fluffy clouds on a bright summer day. He doesn't spell it out, but you can tell he's trying to assuage your worries in his own unique way. His words were already indicative of his intent, and although you have conflicting emotions, they dissipated when Jing Yuan delivered his heartfelt speech.
Your countenance brightens up as you acknowledge Jing Yuan's words with a smile that reaches your eyes, revealing the depth of your gratitude towards him. The General doesn't miss the tenderness in your look, and it stirs a fluttering sensation in his chest that he can't ignore. In response, he mirrors your expression of fondness, beaming with an equal measure of warmth and affection.
Jing Yuan yields to the irresistible impulse to draw you closer, settling you onto his lap, which catches you by surprise and causes your heart to race uncontrollably.
He envelops you in his embrace, his arms delicately encircling your waist, and he presses his nose into your hair, savoring the captivating fragrance of your shampoo that has grown to be his familiar fixation. It is a scent that he will always connect with you, a fragrance that will remain etched in his memory.
"Jing Yuan," you stutter, aware of the blush that suffuses your cheeks from both embarrassment and your close proximity. "Your actions could potentially expose us to being caught by someone."
Jing Yuan is acutely aware of your embarrassment, even without visually confirming it. Despite having shared moments of intimacy in private settings, you still appear unaccustomed to his unpredictable yet affectionate gestures. He finds it perplexing that you are still taken aback, given the likelihood of more instances like this in the future.
He contemplates whether he should demonstrate more of these affectionate actions in the hopes that you'll become more accustomed to such intimacy.
"I have already made myself clear, have I not? Let them see," he declares, as he maintains his embrace and presses his face onto your head. His unwavering action conveys his steadfast resolve to keep you close, unmindful of any prying eyes or onlookers that may come.
“You’re being overbearing, Jing Yuan.” You deliver the comment with a hint of amusement, making him laugh knowing full well that he can sense your eyes rolling in exasperation.
You feel his arms tightening around you, his hold on you growing firmer. "Worry not, no one may enter my office without my permission," he reassures you, though he quickly follows up with a caveat. "With the exception of my retainer, Yanqing, I'm afraid."
You let out a sigh and attempt to shift your position to release yourself from Jing Yuan's hold. Unfortunately, his embrace on you only grows stronger, making it impossible for you to escape his grasp.
Your tone is assertive as you convey your concerns to Jing Yuan. "I suggest it would be appropriate if you release me now. Yanqing could walk in and catch us in this position. Furthermore, Lady Yukong has a meeting scheduled shortly, and my attendance is necessary," you state, underscoring the importance of the matter.
Jing Yuan contemplates whether he should accede to your request or not. However, he comprehends that it would not be prudent to cause you any vexation on account of his own indulgence, especially given that you both have obligations to attend to. Despite the limited time you share, he remains convinced that there will be future opportunities where he can have you as he desires.
"Would it be permissible to remain in this embrace for a mere five minutes?" Jing Yuan inquires, his tone low but exhibiting a gentle and almost imploring quality.
When Jing Yuan receives a nod of your head in response, a smile spreads across his face. He holds onto you tightly, savoring every moment he has left to spend with you. He takes comfort in knowing that you will see each other again later.
As the minutes ticked by, Jing Yuan adhered to his promise and reluctantly let go of you, the loss of your warmth and proximity leaving an ache in his chest. You stood up swiftly, smoothing out your attire and trying to regain your composure. Jing Yuan watched you intently, taking in every detail of your movement and memorizing the way you looked in that moment. As you turned to face him, he remained silent, his gaze fixed solely on you.
With a sense of remorse and a weight on your heart, you implore Jing Yuan. "I know our situation is hard, but please bear it for a little longer."
You are aware that he has no reservations about disclosing your relationship, but you are hesitant due to the potential negative ramifications that it may bring. The prospect of being scrutinized and shunned by others because of your association with the General preoccupies your thoughts and causes you to be ill-equipped to handle the aftermath of a public announcement.
Jing Yuan is not oblivious to your troubled expression as he observes you closely. The way you look down at your feet and clench your fists, he already knows what is weighing on your mind. It is the same expression you wear whenever your secretive relationship becomes a topic of discussion. He truly understands your worries and concerns. Therefore, the only recourse Jing Yuan can offer to alleviate your distress is to offer comfort and assurance. He assures you that he does not object to waiting until such time that you are ready to divulge your relationship to the public, and that he will be there for you every step of the way. In his own inimitable way, he consoles you until your concerns are dispelled. Because that is the only thing he can do for you at this moment.
"(Name)." Jing Yuan once again calls your name and it didn't take him a second to gain your heed. "Will you lean in?"
You were confused by Jing Yuan's sudden request, but without hesitation, you leaned in towards him. Sensing his hand on the back of your head, you felt a rush of emotions. As he pulled you closer to him, your eyes widened in anticipation of what was to come. Jing Yuan's lips landed gently on top of your head, eliciting a tingly sensation that traveled down to your fingertips and stirred butterflies in your stomach. The contact of his lips on your head lingered for a moment briefly before he drew away. His lips curved into a smile as he gazed at your blushing cheeks and slightly parted lips as you looked into each other’s eyes.
Jing Yuan was greatly amused by your reaction, which was one of the many reasons why he took pleasure in teasing you. Your reactions were absolutely priceless, and he simply couldn't get enough of them. It only served to fuel his desire to tease you even further whenever he saw you react in such a way.
Indeed, he is satisfied.
"It would be best if you left now," he suggested, his hand tenderly resting on your head as he gave it a reassuring pat. "I understand that you have other pressing matters to attend to, and I wouldn't want to keep you from them," he explained, his eyes reflecting a blend of melancholy and solicitude. "However, please know that should you ever require any assistance, my door will always be open to you," he offered, his tone composed and reassuring.
As you blink, you snap out of your stupor and quickly straighten your posture. The blush on your face remains, a lingering effect of the surprise that Jing Yuan had given you. It was astounding how effortlessly he could catch you off guard, leaving you constantly on edge, unsure of what he might do next.
He is indeed a mysterious man.
"Thank you, Jing Yuan. I appreciate your kind offer," you reply, clearing your throat in an attempt to compose yourself. "I shall keep that in mind. Now, if you'll excuse me, I must take my leave."
You cast a quick glance at Jing Yuan, and your eyes catch him gazing at you with such tenderness that it leaves you feeling warm and fuzzy inside. It was a look that he always gave you, even from afar, and it never failed to make your heart melt.
Jing Yuan observes you quietly as you collect yourself to leave his room. He feels a sense of disappointment knowing that you will soon be gone and that he will be left alone in his spacious office. However, he understands the urgency of your matters with the Sky-Faring commission and would not want to be the cause of your tardiness to a meeting that is soon to be held. It would be unwise of him to delay you, even if he wished otherwise.
As Jing Yuan is lost in thought, he suddenly feels a cool sensation on his forehead, interrupting his musings. He soon realizes that you had surprised him with a kiss on the forehead without any prior warning, making his body stiffen unwillingly.
Jing Yuan was astonished yet pleased by your unexpected display of affection. He had not anticipated such a gesture, but it was one that he valued greatly. His body soon relaxes and the warmth in his heart swelled as he closed his eyes, basking in the moment and enjoying the sensation of your touch.
It was a moment that he wished could last indefinitely.
However, the moment of intimacy between you and Jing Yuan came to an end as you pulled away from him. He couldn't help but feel a sense of disappointment as the warmth and tenderness he felt instantly dissipated. Jing Yuan adjusted his posture, backing away slightly as he looked at you. He was a bit surprised by the intensity of your gaze, which conveyed a deep admiration and affection that was reserved only for him. This was a look that had the power to make him feel weak, but he always put up a tough front and never revealed his vulnerability to you.
If only you are aware how much you affected him this much. Will you still be able to grant him more, or minimize because of embarrassment? He does not know. But he hopes it will be the former.
"I will take my leave now as I may be late," you say in a hurry. Jing Yuan simply waves a dismissive hand, giving you permission to attend to your duties.
"Good luck with your work," he said with a smile, and you nodded in response.
As you turn to leave Jing Yuan's office, you pause and take one last glance at Jing Yuan, who's comfortably sitting in his seat as he watches you.
You lick your lips and convey the words that you wanted to say. "I'll see you later."
With a final smile, you exit the room and make your way towards the Helm Master who was waiting for you.
Once you are no longer in his office, Jing Yuan couldn't help but smile as he reflected on the brief encounter you had just shared. The sensation of your lips on his forehead is still palpable, like a vivid painting on a canvas. The warmth of your touch lingers, leaving an indelible impression on his skin.
The encounter bestowed upon Jing Yuan gives him a profound sense of contentment and exhilaration, stirring within him a delightful mixture of emotions. The satisfaction he derived from that fleeting interaction proved to be truly intoxicating, leaving him with an insatiable yearning for more. His craving persisted, unquenched by the mere taste of that moment.
Jing Yuan redirects his focus to the documents before him, delicately resting his chin on his palm. The faint smirk that creeps his face persists as though it was a lasting imprint on his features.
How can he not be pleased when his morning was a very welcoming indulgence he had? It indeed gave him the satisfaction that he needs.
If you consistently become the first person he encounters and shower him with your affection every time the moon descends, his mornings will no longer be laden with dreariness as they were originally destined to be.
Jing Yuan will perpetually welcome anything and everything as long as it involves you.

conversations about representation have always felt so navel-gazing to me, in part because those conversations tend to remain at the level of individual characters. the focus is on representing individuals as meaningful examples of the groups they belong to - to have “good” representation is to see some component(s) of your social identity reflected back at you by a character without those being the only traits of those characters. To measure representation you first look to see if there are visual or descriptive markers of identity - skin colour, gender, sexual attraction, ability - and then, once that evidence is established, one looks at how characters interact with and contribute to the narrative. does this gay character have a romantic partner? does this black character have interiority not related to their relationship to white characters? is this woman character motivated by something other than a desire to impress men? The goal is to avoid stereotypes, to be an anti-stereotype.
And so you ‘solve’ representation through the adequate presence of these characters. But I think this is an inherently individualistic and anti-liberatory way to approach representation, because it views minorities as individuals who can be cut from the social fabric of real life and transported into different fictional universes while leaving their identities fully intact. The presence of a disabled character does not also require the inclusion of structural ableism in the narrative, their individual presence is enough to represent disability. And so their presence in the narrative seems to emerge from nowhere - you don’t judge representation by looking at how the narrative represents and thinks about historical structures of race, gender, ability, you judge it by the amount of characters who contain those social markers. It means social identity exists primarily within the individual. There is no historical perspective given to characters, no acknowledgement of the fact that identity is dialectic and socially mediated. to paraphrase Gramsci, history impresses upon you an infinity of traces without leaving an inventory, and I think when discussing representation, people judge the quality of representation by those traces - race, gender, ability, sexuality, religion, etc - but ignores the inventory, the origins of those things, the social processes that produce race, produce gender, constantly and everyday. And so you get these characters that feel dislocated, alien to themselves and other people, because they express an identity that appears to have no origin point in the fictional world, no social backing. They are essentialised to what they “are” deep down inside. Characters are not made racial, not made gendered, not made disabled by the universe they exist in, they simply “are” those things.
And if narratives do tackle those histories, they tend to represent them primarily through misery. You know a character is gay because they get called slurs. You see a black character experience racism. You recognise a character is a woman by the fact that she is sexually assaulted. The history of their identities is represented as individual acts of violence or trauma, as if misogyny or racism are narrative objects themselves that occasionally collide with the characters to remind the audience that the authors take history very seriously. If an author is especially serious, they will get individual sensitivity readers to confirm or deny the authenticity of the social identity being expressed on the page; much less often you will hear of authors who rigorously consult, for example, books like Orientalism to ensure the structure of their work is not reproducing Western (and ultimately racist) conclusions about the world they are creating. Representational politics begins (and frequently ends) at the level of the individual. And so you get queer characters who endure homophobia or transphobia, but whose ultimate wish is to enter into a monogamous marriage and reproduce the social unit of the nuclear family, or the black character who finally finds community in a group of all white people that aren’t racist to their face. That’s not tackling history, that’s just allowing these character to be momentarily exempt from it. the historical norms and hegemonies present in the narrative are disconnected from the characters themselves. this is why you can have “good representation” in stories that are fundamentally racist or misogynistic or heteronormative (see: ofmd). If representation is only housed in your characters, if you view representation as a discrete trait that you can add more or less of, you are not thinking about the social identities that you are representing in a systemic way - you are, in effect, producing tokens.
And I think that sense of dislocation is part of what motivates people to cringe away from stories primarily billed as having “a diverse cast” or filled with “queer characters” or whatever, even when they are otherwise desperate for those things (excluding from this discussion the people who dislike the mere appearance of characters who are not strong white men, a perspective that is not worth entertaining). I do not want to watch stories that smash characters and identities together like barbie dolls, that treat race or gender as something to “tackle” in a B plot or a “police brutality episode” like you get in a show like Brooklyn 99. I do not want a character creation screen. Identity should, ideally, be part of the structure of the narrative, not a thing you merely choose to “include.” Which is much more difficult, of course - it requires a robust political imagination, but it’s a problem that is possible to solve.

A.2.10 What will abolishing hierarchy mean and achieve?
The creation of a new society based upon libertarian organisations will have an incalculable effect on everyday life. The empowerment of millions of people will transform society in ways we can only guess at now.
However, many consider these forms of organisation as impractical and doomed to failure. To those who say that such confederal, non-authoritarian organisations would produce confusion and disunity, anarchists maintain that the statist, centralised and hierarchical form of organisation produces indifference instead of involvement, heartlessness instead of solidarity, uniformity instead of unity, and privileged elites instead of equality. More importantly, such organisations destroy individual initiative and crush independent action and critical thinking. (For more on hierarchy, see section B.1 — “Why are anarchists against authority and hierarchy?”).
That libertarian organisation can work and is based upon (and promotes) liberty was demonstrated in the Spanish Anarchist movement. Fenner Brockway, Secretary of the British Independent Labour Party, when visiting Barcelona during the 1936 revolution, noted that “the great solidarity that existed among the Anarchists was due to each individual relying on his [sic] own strength and not depending upon leadership… . The organisations must, to be successful, be combined with free-thinking people; not a mass, but free individuals” [quoted by Rudolf Rocker, Anarcho-syndicalism, p. 67f]
As sufficiently indicated already, hierarchical, centralised structures restrict freedom. As Proudhon noted: “the centralist system is all very well as regards size, simplicity and construction: it lacks but one thing — the individual no longer belongs to himself in such a system, he cannot feel his worth, his life, and no account is taken of him at all.” [quoted by Martin Buber, Paths in Utopia, p. 33]
The effects of hierarchy can be seen all around us. It does not work. Hierarchy and authority exist everywhere, in the workplace, at home, in the street. As Bob Black puts it, ”[i]f you spend most of your waking life taking orders or kissing ass, if you get habituated to hierarchy, you will become passive-aggressive, sado-masochistic, servile and stupefied, and you will carry that load into every aspect of the balance of your life.” [“The Libertarian as Conservative,” The Abolition of Work and other essays, pp. 147–8]
This means that the end of hierarchy will mean a massive transformation in everyday life. It will involve the creation of individual-centred organisations within which all can exercise, and so develop, their abilities to the fullest. By involving themselves and participating in the decisions that affect them, their workplace, their community and society, they can ensure the full development of their individual capacities.
With the free participation of all in social life, we would quickly see the end of inequality and injustice. Rather than people existing to make ends meet and being used to increase the wealth and power of the few as under capitalism, the end of hierarchy would see (to quote Kropotkin) “the well-being of all” and it is “high time for the worker to assert his [or her] right to the common inheritance, and to enter into possession of it.” [The Conquest of Bread, p. 35 and p. 44] For only taking possession of the means of life (workplaces, housing, the land, etc.) can ensure “liberty and justice, for liberty and justice are not decreed but are the result of economic independence. They spring from the fact that the individual is able to live without depending on a master, and to enjoy … the product of his [or her] toil.” [Ricardo Flores Magon, Land and Liberty, p. 62] Therefore liberty requires the abolition of capitalist private property rights in favour of “use rights.” (see section B.3 for more details). Ironically, the “abolition of property will free the people from homelessness and nonpossession.” [Max Baginski, “Without Government,” Anarchy! An Anthology of Emma Goldman’s Mother Earth, p. 11] Thus anarchism promises “both requisites of happiness — liberty and wealth.” In anarchy, “mankind will live in freedom and in comfort.” [Benjamin Tucker, Why I am an Anarchist, p. 135 and p. 136]
Only self-determination and free agreement on every level of society can develop the responsibility, initiative, intellect and solidarity of individuals and society as a whole. Only anarchist organisation allows the vast talent which exists within humanity to be accessed and used, enriching society by the very process of enriching and developing the individual. Only by involving everyone in the process of thinking, planning, co-ordinating and implementing the decisions that affect them can freedom blossom and individuality be fully developed and protected. Anarchy will release the creativity and talent of the mass of people enslaved by hierarchy.
Anarchy will even be of benefit for those who are said to benefit from capitalism and its authority relations. Anarchists “maintain that both rulers and ruled are spoiled by authority; both exploiters and exploited are spoiled by exploitation.” [Peter Kropotkin, Act for Yourselves, p. 83] This is because ”[i]n any hierarchical relationship the dominator as well as the submissive pays his dues. The price paid for the ‘glory of command’ is indeed heavy. Every tyrant resents his duties. He is relegated to drag the dead weight of the dormant creative potential of the submissive all along the road of his hierarchical excursion.” [For Ourselves, The Right to Be Greedy, Thesis 95]

Tech as a father Chapter 57
Back on track with the next one. I am bakc with your favorite scientists.
Masterlist
Chapter 57: Trying to find it
Lama Su, still very much intrigued by the mystery surrounding Orion, decides to explore unconventional methods to obtain a sample for analysis. In a discreet conversation with Gala Ta, he suggests the possibility of acquiring genetic material from items left behind by the clone squad in their barracks, such as used diapers or any other personal belongings.
This unorthodox approach reflects Lama Su's determination to unveil the secrets behind Orion's origin. Gala Ta, although initially hesitant about the unconventional nature of the plan, acknowledges the urgency and secrecy of the matter at hand. The Kaminoans proceed with caution, understanding that the clone squad is not only skilled but also possesses a bond that could complicate their investigative efforts. Just the thought of how Orion, CT-9902’s offspring could potentially improve the clones, was too good an opportunity to let down. As the Kaminoans strategize on how to execute this unique plan, the tension builds, and the delicate dance between the secretive clone squad and the inquisitive Kaminoans continues, adding an extra layer of complexity to the already intricate situation.
Lama Su, well aware of the failed attempt to obtain a blood sample from Orion, emphasizes the Kaminoans' proprietary claim over the clones. He acknowledges that the situation with Orion, being a unique case and potentially not a full clone, adds a layer of complexity to their usual protocols. And who if not him, can change those protocols and can add to them as he wishes? Gala Ta, considering the delicate balance between maintaining control and avoiding conflict with the skilled and tight-knit clone squad, understands the challenges ahead. The reminder of Orion's partial clone status raises questions about the boundaries of Kaminoan authority, especially when dealing with individuals who have forged strong connections and bonds outside the usual parameters. But the clones belong to them, so Orion in a way at least half too. Clones are not supposed to reproduce, and therefore they are allowed to see how well the genetic make-up does. The Kaminoans, in their pursuit of understanding Orion's origins, find themselves navigating a fine line between asserting their ownership and respecting the individuality that has emerged within the clone squad. The tension between these conflicting interests continues to shape the desire to progress their research in cloning, adding a layer of intrigue and uncertainty to the already intricate web of relationships on Kamino.
Gala Ta, determined to obtain a sample from Orion, enters the empty barracks with a sense of urgency. He meticulously searches the area, looking for any trace that might provide the genetic material he seeks. Placing all back the way it was. This is why Gala Ta went alone, too much would have made a mess. However, Tech, ever vigilant and protective of Orion's privacy, has taken measures to ensure that nothing compromising can be found. Tech's strategic mind and attention to detail prove effective as Gala Ta encounters obstacles and cleverly concealed traces. The tech-savvy clone has likely encrypted or deleted any digital records, and physical items that could potentially be used for sampling are well cleaned. Scans show no traces at all. Gala Ta places the play things carefully back into a storage box, the way he took them out. Before heading to the other bunks.
The cat-and-mouse game between Gala Ta's pursuit and Tech's defensive measures adds an element of suspicion to the situation. As Gala Ta faces setbacks in his search, the stakes continue to rise, highlighting the delicate balance between the Kaminoans' curiosity and the squad's determination to safeguard Orion's unique identity, showing there must be more. Gala Ta swallows as he proposes to Lama Su to just invite every possible human female.
Lama Su, deep in thought, contemplates Gala Ta's suggestion. The tapping of his long fingers on the desk is a clear sign of his consideration. The Kaminoan leader recognizes that Tech's secrecy may indeed be linked to the identity of Orion's mother. Inviting all potential mothers could be a way to unravel the mystery and discover the hidden details. The Kaminoans' curiosity and desire for genetic information drive them to explore unconventional methods. The prospect of unveiling the unique characteristics of Orion's mother becomes a tempting challenge for them. Lama Su, always focused on the success of their cloning endeavours, thinks this as a potential breakthrough.
Lama Su, aware of the delicate situation, contemplates the eerie similarity between Amanda Pacem's features and those of Orion. Suspicion lingers in the air, especially regarding the eye colour and hair that align with the mysterious child. However, the Kaminoan leader understands the gravity of accusing a Jedi without concrete proof. So for now this is only for him and Gala Ta to know and the few selected ones he chose to help them.
In the pursuit of genetic information, Lama Su treads carefully, avoiding baseless accusations against Amanda Pacem. The intricate dance of diplomacy begins as they consider inviting her again alongside other potential mothers. The Kaminoans must navigate the fine line between extracting the desired genetic data and maintaining a semblance of cooperation with the Jedi. But then, how would they know if one would even agree. Especially if a Jedi shows up amidst them. An imposing figure with a full energetic Padawan.
Lama Su steps to the big window, watching over the calming storm that is Kamino. The Padawan, which has a close bond with her master, what was her name? Alma. Master Pacem called her Alma. She was a talkative young Mon Calamari. Seemed also rather attached to the infant…

Sunset Arc 1 & Icarus
Tumblr media
SolCorp agents are, as a matter of course, compliant to Sol’s authority. For those raised in the company, rule-breaking is simply not in their nature. For those who enter into the company from outside, SolCorp ensures that this trait becomes part of their nature. And yet, rules are still broken from time to time. It's unavoidable.
Minor infractions are handled by that individual’s department head or a stern censure by Neptune’s Investigation wing, but when an agent commits indefensible crimes against Sol, they become what is called an Icarus.
Their name is redacted from most Sol records and replaced by an Icarus number designation until they are safely Reintegrated, at which time their name is returned. It is Neptune's Retrieval division's job to locate and either bring Icarus back to SolCorp or eliminate them entirely.
Many Icarus can be reformed by going through Neptune’s Reintegration process, which is not easy or pleasant. While undergoing Reintegration, Icarus are held in Icarus Containment and their knacks are controlled by dampener tech.
The most serious offenses are punished by being erased: SolCorp’s capital punishment. When erased, not only do Icarus lose their lives, but all Sol agents know that they are never to speak of that person again.

I don't know everything about Swan Lake and I might need to read into it further to work out nuances, but hear me out for a first draft of an Apotheosis Swan Lake AU.
Obviously, Rumi is the prince and Thanatos is their friend, Peter is the White Swan, Exandroth is the Black Swan. I don't think Zuen is the one who CURSED Peter, so it's not a one-to-one recreation of Rothbart, but he is manipulating events for his own benefit.
Instead of there being a Queen, I think Zuen delivered a message posing as some sort of noble authority that Rumi needs to find a partner to complete their ascension to a position of divine royalty. Thanatos is a voice of dissent throughout the events, suggesting that Rumi needs to stop thinking about this and ends up leading Rumi the lake - and to Peter - after Thanatos suggests they go hunting swans. By day, Peter is a swan and by night Peter turns back into the form of a human, and his curse can only be broken if someone who has never loved before swears to love him forever. Rumi learns about the curse that had befallen the other, the pair of them fall in love, and Rumi swears that they're going to break the other's curse but they don't have time to talk further as it turns to dawn and Peter turns back into a swan.
Zuen had hoped that leading Rumi to the lake would lead them to seeking out the source of the curse, but instead Rumi is a hopeless romantic who only fixates on Peter and being his saving grace. This is where Exandroth enters as the Black Swan, sent to the upcoming ball to swoon Rumi and to ensure that the other will not be capable of lifting Peter's curse. It's through acting as Peter's doppelganger that over the course of the ball Exandroth falls in love with Rumi, causing guilt over the betrayal as Peter arrives late and watches as Rumi accidentally proposes to Exandroth instead of him.
Peter runs off to the lake, Rumi following behind, Exandroth following Rumi, Thanatos following Exandroth. By some form of accident, Peter ends up dying before Rumi can catch up with the other, falling into despair at the love of their life dying. Exandroth catches up, Rumi lashing out at it initially but Exandroth explains how it has fallen in love with Rumi and informs them of the one who started it all, Zuen. While Rumi calms down enough to not entirely forgive but at the least understand Exandroth, Thanatos, who has not heard the explanation, rushes in and kills Exandroth. Everything has gone horribly HORRIBLY wrong.
Zuen appears before them, angry at the events that transpired. Rumi was promised divinity under the pretense that this sequence of events would lead to them finding the one who cursed Peter and, as is now revealed, Zuen's friends. Zuen berates them for failing while Rumi and Thanatos get pretty angry about being unknowingly used as tools. Zuen's mistake in revealing himself gives Rumi and Thanatos the opportunity to kill them and take what power Zuen had. I think there is a temptation that Rumi could take Zuen's place, try to do better than Zuen, live to be what Rumi was hoping to become even if it had been an illusion made to manipulate them.. But of course Rumi doesn't, using their power to resurrect Peter.
Whoever is the source of the curse is still out there, and Zuen's power was only strong enough to resurrect and lift the curse of a single individual.. But despite the imperfect ending, at least they're all together <3 And Exandroth is dead because I gotta do her a solid and give him a death as tragic as canon LOL.

Identifying Verification Badges
The most direct way to identify a verified Cash App account is through the verification badge. A badge is a check mark that appears next to the account's name. This symbol signifies that Cash App recognizes the account as both authentic and reputable. Follow this checklist to confirm the badge’s legitimacy:
Position: The badge should always be right next to the user's name.
Color: It must be white within a green background.
Shape: Look for the typical check mark shape.
Tapping: Click on the badge. A genuine badge will have a pop-up confirming verification.
Checking Account History
Another reliable method to confirm if a Cash App account is truly verified is by examining its account history. Conduct a thorough review with these steps:
Access past transactions to assess regular activity patterns.
Check for a history of successful payments and receipts.
Ensure transparency in transaction details.
Review feedback or comments from other users.
Real verified Cash App accounts will often have an established transaction history. This history reflects consistent and transparent financial dealings.

Changes to the Kickstarter Backer Survey System
I'm in a FB group for authors who use Kickstarter, and I just posted this there, and thought - enough other presses and other folks who use Kickstarter follow me here that this information might be useful to others? So I'm cross-posting it here.
I'm setting up backer surveys using the new system for the first time. I know some people here had questions about it so I thought I'd post a few notes on it and how it's different. I'm no expert, this is just my observations. I hadn't seen anyone post something like this, so apologies if it is duplicative, I definitely don't see every post people make in the group. :D
Item-specific SKUs. They've created a SKU system for variants and such, so it should now be possible to, for example, set up all the sizes and colors for a t-shirt and then have it spit out a question where backers can pick which variant they want. I think this will make it much easier to offer rewards of things like clothing, which I'll own I've personally avoided in part because the back-end logistics of gathering backer info about them looked like such a hassle. It looks like it'll generate multiple-choice options for variants automatically. I'm not using that part so I'm not testing it, unfortunately. I wonder if this could also be used to simplify the add-ons. For example, right now, I create separate add-ons for each of our e-books and it can get cluttered. But theoretically this system could be used to say, "this is the e-book add-on, buy the number of e-books you want, tell us which specific books you want on your survey." I'm not sure I'll go this route on future campaigns (it's already too late for this one) - while putting our full back catalog as add-ons is clunky, it ensures that each individual item is before the backer's eyes when they back, and I don't think losing that would necessarily be beneficial - but it's interesting to consider.
Item-specific questions. This is an addition I really like. It's always been a challenge to collect information for customized add-ons. For example, I always offer a premium backer list and book signing, and getting info on what name people want to use and what inscription they'd like has been frustrating, as I've had to rely on messaging. The new system fixes all of that. I think it'll make it much easier to get this information accurately and quickly without having to pester people to answer their messages. Note that it looks like currently for the questions, only open-ended is an option - you can't add an item-specific question that's multiple choice.
Addresses. All addresses are collected automatically from everyone, which I definitely don't like. Before, e-books always offered an anonymous option for our backers, and I don't like that that's now gone. This new survey system would definitely be improved if we could specify which levels we need addresses for. You can opt out of getting addresses, but it's all or nothing (get all backer addresses or get no backer addresses).
There's a "Backer Question" section, where you can add additional questions (open ended, multiple choice w multiple responses, multiple choice w one response, required or optional). This is more like the old system, and it can be used for questions that aren't item-specific. For example, I'm using it for our optional mailing list sign-up question.
Previews. It does offer comprehensive previewing to see how all the item-specific questions collate together, so it's very easy to be sure that everything is how it should be. You can even add multiple add-ons to the theoretical "order" that the backer has, to be sure all your questions are there and what you'd like.
Character limit. The creator-entered questions have a limit of 255 characters. That's. not many. I know I'm wordy (see: this post) but I wish the limit was a little higher.
E-mail header. The old system had space to put in a header/introduction for your backer survey message. I'm not seeing that here? I'm a little confused by that, but I've poked around a lot and haven't found it, so I think that's gone.
Bonus backers. It looks like bonus backers will now receive a survey, containing any of the "backer questions not tied to specific rewards" questions. So in my case, that means they'll have the chance to sign up for our newsletter, which ain't a bad thing!
Cost to use the new system. Someone on FB had asked if using this system added to the cost of using Kickstarter? I see absolutely zero evidence that it does. They're not asking me to opt into additional charges, warning that using this will add to expenses, etc. I had and continue to have every reason to think this is base KS functionality now, covered by the fee already paid when the campaign backs. There's also no way that I can see to "opt out" of using the new system/continue using the old system.
Over all, compared to the old system, I like this one better. It was always frustrating and could be time-consuming to have multiple levels that were similar and have to make entirely new surveys for each. This will make it easier to mix-and-match rewards across different levels, and MUCH easier to get information for add-ons only a few people have - I no longer have to nag people by KS message for their customization information, which will save me a LOT of time. The variant functionality will also be great for any item, like clothing, that has sizing, color variants, etc.
The main area for improvement would be functionality for choosing which levels require snail mail addresses - with how this is structured I don't really see why they can't just offer us check boxes for "these are your backer levels, check the ones you need addresses for."
That's everything that I can see at the moment, but if people have questions or thoughts, I'm willing to poke at it more. My campaign doesn't end for another two weeks so I've got a little time to finish setting them up and play with the settings. :D

Edible Arrangements: Twenty-Fourth Bite: The Halloween Episode
First - Prev - Next - M.list - Ao3
A/N: Happy Halloween!
Tumblr media
I'mma be real, a decent part of this chapter is me, the author, being in love with steak. It matters for the, uh, plot. Yeah.
Tumblr media
Chapter Summary: You force yourself through the rest of your meeting with Neito and lay out ground rules. After that, a dinner date for the best Halloween of your life.
Warnings: food/eating mentions, mentions of murder/death, abuse mentions, shitty cheating exes
Word Count: ~4200 words
Tumblr media
It's an awkward while with Neito after that. You spend the time glancing at your phone, where Mina and Tsuyu (and more rarely, Tenya, Hitoshi, and Izuku) have been making sure to check in with you constantly to ensure you're safe and mentally okay. Honestly, you're questioning the latter, given how much of the conversation is you giving advice to the exact guy who tried to kill one of your best friends like, last week, but, you know, sometimes that's just what life is like.
It's after some time—maybe half an hour, though you're not paying dire attention to the time passing, more concerned about the vampire-hunter-turned-vampire beside you—that you manage to work up to the main point of this whole conversation. "So, here's the thing. You missed sign ups for the semester project in Dr. Aizawa's class."
He's baffled, finally taking his hands out of his hair to look at you in confusion. "Huh? What's that got to do with… I don't know, anything?"
"You were out, recovering from being turned."
He looks at you dumbly, eyes still red from his earlier crying. "…yeah?"
"I also missed it while I was out, recovering from being assaulted."
His face goes pale as the dots finally connect. "Oh. Right."
"Yeah, get the problem now?"
Neito nods, lips pressed into a thin line. "I understand if you'd rather not work with me."
"Well, I mean, the entire point of this whole thing was to figure out whether I was willing to work with you. So here's the rules. We meet in public spaces only. I bring a friend along to all meetings. You can bring along one, but not uh… what was her name? The thorn girl whose quirk practically shredded my skin?"
"Ibara," he answers.
"Anyone but Ibara. I don't trust her."
"She's… changed," Neito says weakly. "Been enthralled."
Your phone nearly slips from your grasp. You save it, barely, by a quick adjustment of your hand. It would be best that Neito doesn’t know how much you already know about the situation, so you put yourself to acting cool about it. "By who?"
He shrugs. "I've no clue. She thinks vampires are… just like everyone else, now. That it's not her place to decide who lives and dies."
"Uh…" You tilt your head. "How is that any different from just being a better person?"
"What makes you think you get to decide what makes someone a better or worse person?"
You pinch the bridge of your nose. "Look, I'm not fucking debating you on whether attempting murder makes you a bad person or not. I'm just… not doing that."
He chuckles dryly. "You know I don't believe half the shit I debate in class, right?"
"Well, you could've fooled me."
Neito rolls his eyes. As if he has the right. "Do go on."
"Any friend but Ibara. I don't care that she's been enthralled, I only trust you on an individual level. Your other friend, the redhead, she's fine."
"You mean Itsuka."
"Yeah. I'll have my own backup. We'll meet exclusively in public spaces, and don't you dare be late to group meetings. Give me your number so we can plan meeting times."
Reluctantly, he takes your passed-over phone and enters in a new contact. You text him to get him your own number, and, satisfied, nod. "We can organize more at a later date. Also, I get the final say on the topic for the project."
"You're asking a lot. I take it you usually like to be in charge?"
You shoot him a glare. "It's for my safety and sanity. Consider this part of your redemption arc from trying to kill me and my friend."
"I didn't try to kill you."
"Well, that little fact's not gonna unfuck my arm, so tough shit."
He sighs. "Alright. We can sort out meeting times and topic later."
"Send me your topic ideas later on today. I'll be busy, so no rush."
There's a rustle coming from the path into the clearing. Your eyes dart to it, finding a shock of red hair. "That being said, I'd better go. As healthy as sitting here comforting and giving advice to the guy who assaulted me is, I actually have a date to get to, so now that all that's sorted, I'm gonna leave you to your friend here."
You suppose she… Itsuka, you mean, came looking for Neito. Either way, you're quick to attempt your escape, although…
Your neck itches.
You stop and make eye contact with her, raising an eyebrow. "You too?"
"Huh?"
"No, nevermind." You shake your head, slipping your bag over your shoulder and brushing past her. As you walk away and begin to make your way to where your car's parked, you hear her ask Neito: "what was that all about?"
Whatever he answers is beyond you now. You unlock your phone and call Izuku.
~
It's a quick and easy drive back home, and then an arduous, arduous hour obsessing over your appearance. You're a little glad for the distraction—with so much energy being expended on making sure you look immaculate and the outfit you bought with Izuku over the weekend is being worn just right, you don't have to think too hard about the situation with Neito, your upcoming presentation with Hitoshi, or the semester project you need to bang out before November ends. Not to mention exams, or extra assignments, or keeping up with readings for class, or or or—
Inhale. Exhale. Fix your hair.
All of that can wait.
The steak, and Izuku, come first.
There's no sense ruining a good night when you've got a perfectly good bottle to seal your emotions in for now.
Once you're all dolled up, and there's nothing more you can do to aid your appearance, only hurt it with too many layers or too many reworks, you slip out of your room and stride down the steps, feeling a little uneasy in the fancy clothes you've donned.
Izuku has his back to you, eyes fixed firmly out the window. His hair is as unruly as ever, although you can tell he at least tried to tame it, and he's in a fitted, black suit, from what you can tell.
"Looking sharp," you comment with a small smile on your lips, hoping the heat in your cheeks doesn't come across as obvious at the sight of him.
He turns to face you now, and as good as he looks, you can help but let out a stifled giggle at the sight of him. The poor guy has apparently never tied a tie in his life. He looks you over, speechless, as you close the distance and instantly begin to fuss with his tie.
"Almost sharp," you correct, a gentle chiding in your tone as you grin. When his tie is at least in an acceptable state, you meet his eyes, hands still on the strip of fabric. "There you go, now you're ready to eat some world-class steak!"
"You look gorgeous," he replies softly.
He isn't glowing.
Mentally, you reboot.
"I, uh, thank you!" you squeak. "You look gorgeous too."
The sweetest smile rests on his lips as you nervously smooth his tie down one last time. You're sure you're both equally flustered right now, the experience of seeing each other so dressed up bringing heat to both your cheeks.
You shift awkwardly, rocking on your heels as you think of a wait out of feeling so damn awkward. "Well," you clear your throat, "are you ready to go?"
He nods, swallowing thickly. "Yeah, uh, let me make sure I have my wallet, and all that…"
"It's on the end table."
"Right! Yeah!" Izuku laughs, a nervous bark that leaves him vibrating in place. "Haha, yeah, let's… let's head out."
You giggle, following him out and checking the door on your way.
The car ride starts off tense, but as you gently hum to the music of the radio, you feel your shoulders begin to drop. The sun's beginning to set, Halloween is starting properly, and the city lights are beginning to flick on, one by one. With them, a little lightbulb of an idea turns on in your head.
"Hey, after dinner, how do you feel about movies? I know you said you don't like to watch 'em, but if you did, we could maybe watch something together? Some Halloween movie! I'll even let you pick which one!"
He has a soft smile on his lips, though there's a little tension in his eyes as he drives. "Well, I… I can try! It's been a while, and I'd love to watch something with you."
"Great! We can pick the movie later. And remember, if you're uncomfortable at any time, please say so. I don't wanna push you into something you're not ready for."
His smile relaxes a little, less strained. "Right. Thank you."
"Otherwise, I'll ask you, and then you get to either lie to me and get found out, or tell me the truth and get found out."
After that, conversation comes easy, and the silence is peace, rather than awkwardness.
Alexander's is stifling even from the parking lot. You're surprised it has a parking lot, all things considered. Still, you get out of the car and enter with Izuku to an overly refined atmosphere and a quiet, near-empty restaurant. And as Izuku tells the hostess about your reservation, it hits you—there's steak here. Not just any steak, but world-class, bucket list-level steak. And you're going to eat it.
You're ushered to a nice, private table in one of the back sections. Izuku's shaking hand comes to rest around your waist, and you try not to acknowledge the way the hostess looks over your heavily bandaged arm in distaste.
You sit across from Izuku, carefully masking your excitement.
"I know it's no Brazilian steakhouse," Izuku says nervously, "but I hope you'll like the food."
You nod with a grin. "It's Alexander's, 'Zuku. They have the specific variety of steak that I literally have on my list of things to eat before I die. You're fulfilling one of my life goals today."
He chuckles, picking up a menu. "If you say so."
You grab your own menu, looking over with interest.
Once you've made your decision, you try your best to glance around without looking horrifically obvious or out of place. The tables are, of course, the highest class—some sturdy polished wood, finely carved, and with all details hidden by a pure tablecloth without even the slightest blemish anywhere. A gentle mood lighting, music wafting through the room…
You feel a stark contrast to the room, and yet you and Izuku are alone, so you smile and make conversation.
At least, until your waiter comes. "Good evening. How may I—"
Your eyes meet dark ones. The menu slips out of your fingers and onto the table, and the color drains starkly from your face. Oh, he recognizes you. Oh, tonight is gonna suck.
Your ex stands before you in full uniform, notepad and pen at the ready as Yo stands before you with wide eyes.
You think you might hate Halloween.
~
You and Izuku place the orders you want. Your heart is racing in a way that makes you feel almost motion-sick, mind utterly done with this situation. You can't feel anything towards this man, your waiter, aside from sheer exasperation. If only he would leave you two alone to talk, or maybe he'd get the idea that this is awkward because of him and swap sections with a coworker…
You shift nervously in your seat, fiddling with the bandages that still decorate your arm.
"[name]? Is everything alright?" Izuku asks, snapping you out of your thoughts.
You yelp, turning your attention to your date… to him, you mean. You're sure this isn't intended to be a proper date. "Y-yeah! I'm alright; sorry for spacing."
He looks you over with a sympathetic smile. "To be honest, places like this make me nervous, too. I always tried to get used to it because Da—because Toshinori said expensive places like this were where he was kind of expected to eat, money and all, but I don't think even he was used to it." His sympathy ebbs away, replaced with something in his smile more nostalgic. Izuku lets out a chuckle, eyes far away. "Y'know, he had a much thinner, smaller form when he wasn't using his quirk, so he used to sneak out with me to go get McDonald's late at night while not using his quirk so we wouldn't be caught by paparazzi."
You giggle, pausing to take a sip of your drink. "That sounds like so much fun. My parents would never have let me do anything like that, let alone have done it with me."
His eyes spark with interest at the mention of your parents. "You don't really talk about your parents much. Did they use to be pretty strict?"
You nod, feeling the awkwardness and the exasperation of seeing your ex slip away as you prepare your answer. The moment the words touch your lips, though…
"Complimentary bread. Please enjoy," he says, placing a basket between the two of you. Yo meets your eyes directly, as if to challenge you, and every bit of exasperation comes flooding back. Honestly, if you'd already gotten your steak and couldn't miss out on it from acting up, you've half a mind to just… punch the smarmy look off his face.
Still, you can't turn down good bread, so you bid him a begrudging 'thank you' and reach for a slice from the basket.
"Is there anything I can do to better serve the two of you tonight?" he asks. He knows damn well what he's doing.
You wave your hand politely, forcing a smile onto your lips. "No, no, that's quite alright, thank you. We're enjoying the quiet ambiance of the restaurant."
"Well, your meals will be ready soon. Thank you both for waiting patiently."
"Of course!" You tilt your head, finding it hard to keep up the smile. Yo looks you over; you're sure that he's intentionally waiting around just long enough to make things awkward before he turns and brushes away, leaving his back towards you.
Izuku's eyes dart between Yo's back and your face as you heave a sigh. "…do you two know each other?"
"It's nothing important," you lie. "He's probably just bored, since there's almost no customers around tonight."
He nods, frowning. "Right… So, um, what were we talking about?"
"Parents," you answer quickly. "You asked about mine, since I never really talk about them. The truth is… Well…" Your eyes dart down to the basket of bread. Instinctively, you reach for another slice. "They're strict, yeah. Hyper strict. Like, "required approval of each of my friends before I could keep talking to them" strict. I used to have to sneak around to talk with Mina, and she had to get really good at acting so that when they did meet her, they wouldn't find any flaws in her to pick out as reasons why I couldn't be around her." You frown, gripping the bread in your hand tightly. "Of course, that wasn't enough, so long as she had a visible quirk."
"I see… So they tried to ban you from talking to Mina?"
You nod. "They have a whole laundry list of what makes a person "acceptable". The person must have a quirk, but it can't be one that's potentially harmful or that changes someone's appearance in any way that they consider too "drastic". So, acid production, black eyes, pink skin, and horns? It didn't matter how perfect Mina seemed as a person. They didn't like her quirk, so I had to start sneaking around."
"Really?" He has a sad look about him. "That sounds awful. So, you don't talk to them anymore?"
You shake your head. "I moved out before I even graduated high school. Couldn't take it anymore, and then I…" You furrow your brow. Try as you might, you don't remember how you ended up leaving home, or even where you went at the time. "I got emancipated, which was a whole thing, but… I don't remember… How…"
He tilts his head. "You don't remember?"
Frustrated, you grab for yet another slice of bread. "I'm sure it wasn't important. Just know that I left home when I was 17, and that thanks to all that, we aren't exactly on speaking terms anymore."
"I see… This isn't something I really want to press on right now, but are you sure it's just something you can't remember because it wasn't important?"
"What do you mean?"
"We know you're enthralled. And we don't know exactly what it did. Is it possible that your memory of that time has been erased?"
"I… I guess, I dunno." A twinge of pain spikes through your head, the beginnings of a headache. "Yeah, uh, can we not talk about this right now? It's not important."
"Right. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to bother you with it."
"It's okay, just… I dunno, this whole thing just slips off my brain anyway, and it's starting to make my head hurt."
He furrows his brow, a frown etched on his lips. "I'm so sorry! I really didn't mean to hurt you. How about you take a minute to breathe and let the headache pass while I run to the restroom?"
You nod, waving him off. He makes his retreat, and you move to pull out your phone, taking slow, measured breaths as you check your messages.
Alien Queen to Real Housewives of Ossenfelder at 6:46PM
Alien Queen: [name] my LOVE
Alien Queen: how's the totally Not a Date going?
Little Mx. Polygraph: code black
Frog King: oh shit
Frog King: who?
Little Mx. Polygraph: yo is our waiter
Alien Queen: oh hell no
Alien Queen: give me ten minutes and I'll make him disappear
You suppress a giggle at the message.
Little Mx. Polygraph: I appreciate the offer, but I'd rather not
Little Mx. Polygraph: he's just a waiter, and I haven't mentioned it to Izuku yet
Little Mx. Polygraph: he definitely recognizes me and is acting a bit weird, but how much can one waiter hang around during a meal?
Frog King: That depends.
Frog King: is it a busy night for Alexander's?
Little Mx. Polygraph: kinda empty tbh
Little Mx. Polygraph: I guess no one wants high-class dining on Halloween
Alien Queen: well shit
Alien Queen: he's probably got ample opportunity to date-crash then
Alien Queen: alright, planning time
Frog King: why not tell Izuku about him?
Little Mx. Polygraph: I… I dunno, it feels like…
Little Mx. Polygraph: you know
Alien Queen: you're worried because anyone with eyes could put two and two together with them in the same room?
Little Mx. Polygraph: maybe!
Little Mx. Polygraph: it's embarrassing to admit
Little Mx. Polygraph: like yo is Izuku's asshole twin or something
Little Mx. Polygraph: ugh
Little Mx. Polygraph: speaking of which, gotta go
Little Mx. Polygraph: talk soon
Now again comes your waiter, man of the hour, smiling as he refills your drinks. Seeing Izuku gone, he looks to you. "Didn't expect to see you here, [name]," he says. "Let alone on our slowest day of the year."
You sigh. "Please, Yo. I already have a headache."
"I mean, you've missed me, right?" he asks sweetly. You wonder how you ever thought he was a genuine person—in hindsight, the way he speaks to you is just so…
Fake.
"After all, you went and found a guy who looks pretty similar to me. It's a little uncanny, honestly."
"It's none of your damn business. I'm really not up for causing a scene, so please just… do your job and leave me alone. We don't know each other, we've never met, we have no history. You're a waiter and I'm a paying customer, and that's it."
Izuku slides into his seat effortlessly, a glare fixed on Yo. "Is everything alright, [name]?"
"Yeah. Nothing to worry about, okay 'Zuku?"
"…okay…"
It's clear he doesn't believe you, but he has the mercy to wait until Yo leaves before he asks. "That waiter…?"
You drop your head into your hands. "My ex."
Izuku looks surprised for a moment, eyes flicking between you and the spot Yo had been standing in. "Oh. Your ex."
"Yeah. He was petty and awful and cheated on me and to this day I don't know how he got around my quirk for so long."
His eyes light up in interest, chin coming to rest in his palm. "He actually managed to get around it? While lying to your face?"
You nod. "It was the weirdest thing. Sometimes I thought he might have been lying to me, but he just… didn't glow. He slipped up once and Tenya saw him and told me and it all just came crashing down." Man, this is the worst date conversation topic. Right up there with the stabbing or your shitty parents or the (pseudo?) quirk's hold over your ability to remember things. "I think he must have taken my quirk as some kind of challenge. If you can lie to the lie detector and get away with it, you can do anything."
"I see… That must have been awful. I'm sorry you had to go through that."
You pause, take a long sip of your drink. "I mean, it's okay. It sucked, yeah, it sucked a lot, but… I've had worse, you know? And as much as it hurt, it was an important lesson. I'd gone my whole life thinking it was impossible to lie to me. He taught me that it wasn't."
"Still… Will you be okay? Do you want me to ask that we get a different waiter?"
You shake your head. "That won't be necessary. So long as he behaves." You set your cup down, maybe a little too hard. "I'm sorry about all this. Tonight's supposed to be nice, and it feels like we're just focusing on all my past problems and shit. It's not like you're my therapist."
"Oh! Speaking of which…"
You tilt your head to the side. Did he go looking for a therapist for you that was on his insurance? Does he even need insurance? "What's up? Oh, wait, before you go any further—hold this."
You hold your closed fist out over the table. Curious, he reaches his hand out for you to drop "this" into. As nervous as you are, you slip your hand into his and let it rest on the table.
His reaction is so worth it. The poor man goes red, the flush burning up his ears and down his neck. "I—guh—um—"
You smile and squeeze his hand gently, tilting your head sweetly. With a quick motion, you subtly gesture towards the other side of the room, where Yo is sweeping in with your plates of food. "Just go with it," you whisper.
He nods dumbly, babbling something you don't catch and slipping into a cute smile. "I—I was thinking about getting a—"
"Got your food here," Yo says. He's got to be interrupting deliberately at this point, but you make a show of letting go of Izuku's hand and looking shocked at him anyways. "For the lovely lady, our dry-aged ribeye from Sanuki, Japan, served with a chanterelle sauce and a side of Australian truffle mashed potatoes. And for you, sir, the Chilean sea bass. Please enjoy."
As he speaks, he sets out the plates in front of you, and you have to suppress the urge to cry at the sight. The perfect, beautiful, wonderful slab of meat, still slightly hot, wafting up at you…
You ignore Yo as he leaves. Your brain slips away from conversation as you slowly, carefully cut into the meat. Your knife glides through it like butter, and you begin to choke up at the perfectly cooked cross-section.
When the meat enters your mouth, it's a transcendent experience. You've forgone the sauce on the side, merely tasting the steak as it melts on your tongue and sends your body melting with it.
The world stops. For the longest moment, it's you, and the sensation of the perfect steak in your mouth. Nothing reaches your ear, you're floating on air, your mind is perfectly, blissfully, blank.
And then, a hand on yours.
You blink, and swallow, and you realize Izuku has reached over the table to your knife hand, gently shaking you out of your out-of-body experience. "You're crying," he observes quietly.
Your cheeks are wet, upon observation. You can't bring yourself to care at the moment. You simply nod and go in for another bite.
After a moment of watching you, Izuku smiles, and returns to his own food. He's happy to privately watch you have one of the best experiences of your life, and he's happy to know that this was possible because of him. There's something bittersweet about the whole thing, and for a moment, the silliness of sitting down and pretending to be human for a night strikes him.
It doesn't quite stick. Like water, it rolls off, and the two of you enjoy your dinner, tucked away in a quiet corner of a quiet restaurant.

'All but Ozpin were those teens not so long ago' Yeah for real, the show and the fandom both act as if the adults in RWBY sprang out of the ocean mist fully formed and ready to enslave the babes in the next generation in a war just because they wanted to do that.
That detail was so obvious to me even before Ruby started literally repeating Ozpin's choices: that the teenagers currently critical of the 30+ adults will, in the not too distant future, become the very same adults that the next batch of teenagers dismiss, unless they break the cycle's start by empathizing with the adults first. Personally, I'm of the opinion that if RWBY wanted the kind of anti-adult message that pervades much of the material post-Volume 3, it needed a cast that's a lot younger and who, crucially, will remain young for the majority of the story's run. A 10-15yo sneering at the adults who failed them hits a lot harder than the group of mostly 17yos who go through a two-ish year time skip halfway through the series, so it's only when they're 18+ that they start getting truly mad about the state of things. Having a 19 or 20yo Yang furious when she's holding a license and deferring to her younger sister's authority doesn't have quite the same impact.
But all that aside—because let's be real, I think the writers and fandom both forget how old and politically powerful the group is—the far more significant problem is that RWBY simply doesn't have a coherent message about that generational divide, let alone how to ethically fight an endless war. Fans think it does because most are reading their preferred moral between the lines, but the reality is that RWBY's only proper stance has been, "Every option is horrible, but we don't want to acknowledge that. Instead, we'll just play a version of musical chairs to pick which option is deemed The Most Morally Corrupt each volume."
If you start pooling all the arguments I've seen together, you often end up with something like this:
"Kids shouldn't be fighting a war."
Agreed. I guess Remnant needs an army of adults then.
"No, armies are horrible. Volumes 7-8 showed us that. Anti-military massaging is a core part of RWBY."
Okay, then we need to go back to adult huntsmen. "Exactly."
And when should they start training for this incredibly difficult, dangerous position?
"I mean... young I guess, but don't let them do anything too dangerous."
Just miraculously ensure the bad guys never attack their school? And, you know, hope that they don't get slaughtered the moment they turn 18 and enter real battle because they've been bubble-wrapped during training...
"Quit with the sarcasm. The point is that only the individuals who have committed themselves to protecting the people are responsible enough to hold that kind of power."
Cool... except for the fact that Rhodes' flashback showed how badly things can go when individuals are calling the shots according to their own morals, preferences, and needs, rather than having a system to fall back on.
"Rhodes was an exception. Most huntsmen are Good and Noble and Trustworthy."
Ah, so like Ironwood?
"No, not him. He's military."
Qrow then?
"Absolutely not, he's a drunk."
Glynda? Oobleck? Port?
"They abandoned them!"
What about all the background huntsmen?
"You know the show has gone out of its way to display them as inept, corrupt, or dead."
Hmm. It almost sounds like they're all humans who are inevitably going to make mistakes. What are we supposed to do about that?
"Well, clearly the answer is to have someone with experience in charge. Someone who has learned from their mistakes."
Like... Ozpin?
"You can't be serious. He's a manipulative bastard! A leader also has to be pure and innocent and loving."
Ah. Like a child who hasn't yet grown jaded by an endless war, or had the time to accumulate numerous mistakes in the first place?
"Yes!"
So we want someone like Ruby leading this war? The person who Ozpin was before, you know, thousands of years of traumatic life happened to him.
"Yes! She's the simple soul!"
Awesome. So we acknowledge that in this fantasy world having children fight is not only necessary, but potentially morally correct, especially when doing so is their passionate, lifelong dream?
"No way. Children fighting a war is so bad :("
And round and round we go. RWBY doesn't have anything to say about this, at least nothing that doesn't contradict or undermine what's been said before. Whether Remnant needs a child, an immortal, an army, or huntsmen varies from volume to volume—sometimes even episode to episode—and though the show has gotten this close to a solution in the form of, "We need everyone, actually. We need to unite!" it stumbled in the final hour by pulling back to go, "No wait, never-mind. We don't need them" and also "We introduced HUGE consequences to uniting and then decided to just ignore that, don't worry about it."

Having one or more accounts will help for you to follow what is going on with the bang (we crosspost to Dreamwidth, Tumblr, and sometimes Twitter at the moment), but they are not required to participate.
All we ask is that you not post any public updates to the fic until August 1st (or July 1st with the mod’s okay).
I, as a mod, would probably pick October 31st for the posting day, as it’s the last day of posting for the bang and I don’t think anyone will mind more than one fic that day.
As of the 2023 round, original work is also allowed; however, we recommend you bring in your own artist or forgo art for an original work.
Simply rewriting what you have would be a gray area, but if you’re going to take stuff out and add new scenes, either in the old scenes place or on your own, you should be fine.
Your other options are to bring in an artist you trust with your vision of your OC/make your own art (we do allow that, we just need to be told during the check-in before art that you’re bringing in your own artist if you go that route, or that you’re doing your own art…there will not be a need to sign up in the artist’s sign up, however) or to opt-out of art entirely.
For most fics, posting to AO3/FF.net/other places will be allowed to start in August and you can stretch it out as many posts as you want as long as the complete fic is up by your posting date (and posting dates go from August 8th to October 16th with two weeks for emergency posting). However, you can send us an ask/e-mail about posting as early as July if you have an extremely long fic/something with a long posting schedule. Mostly what we want is the fic to be completely up on the website of your choice by your posting date, and I know some people don’t want to overwhelm their readers. So we want to work with writers to give them ample time to post the story up to their posting date.
Now, as for posting to the communities, you get to choose which day your link to the story and bragging rights are posted, and as I said, we have a range of dates from August 8th to October 16th with two to three stories posting a day. If for some reason you miss your posting date, you have until October 31st to post to the community, during the two weeks of emergency posting.
There will probably be three fics, plus art, posting per day between August 8th and October 31st. The post with date claims will go up on July 23rd and you'll have to choose your date by August 1st.
Posting of chapters on AO3 or your own blog (or wherever you usually post) generally starts August 1st, but you can post earlier (as early as July 1st) if you let us know you have a long story.
What am I posting to the Dreamwidth/Tumblr community if I’m posting the fic elsewhere? You’ll be posting what we call bragging rights. It’s a small form you fill out and post to the community with a link to your fic (we’ll enable moderated posting to the Tumblr and Dreamwidth communities for members on August 8th).
If there are more stories than artists, there will be a second round of claims wherein artists may choose a second story to work with, and on and on until all stories are claimed for art.
If you are certain that you won’t be able to finish your story in time, please let us know by June 13th.
If you feel like you just cannot finish in time and no amount of assistance from us can help you, just let us know by July 13th (if at all possible).

Rajeev Lakhanpal Shares The Impact of Blockchain Technology on Computer Security
Tumblr media
In the rapidly evolving landscape of cybersecurity, where threats loom large and data breaches are a constant concern, innovative solutions are urgently needed to bolster defenses. Enter blockchain technology, a revolutionary concept that is not only disrupting traditional industries but also transforming the way we approach computer security. Renowned expert Rajeev Lakhanpal sheds light on the profound impact blockchain is having on enhancing security measures in the digital realm.
Understanding Blockchain Technology
At its core, blockchain is a decentralized and immutable ledger that records transactions across a network of computers. Each transaction, or block, is securely linked to the previous one, forming a chain of blocks that cannot be altered retroactively. This decentralized nature eliminates the need for a central authority, reducing the risk of a single point of failure and making it extremely difficult for hackers to compromise the system.
Impact on Computer Security
Enhanced Data Integrity: One of the key features of blockchain technology is its ability to ensure data integrity. Each transaction is verified and recorded in a transparent and immutable manner, eliminating the possibility of tampering or manipulation. This inherent trustworthiness makes blockchain ideal for securing critical information, such as financial records and identity documents.
Decentralized Security Infrastructure
Unlike traditional centralized systems, which are vulnerable to single points of failure, blockchain operates on a decentralized network of nodes. This distributed architecture significantly reduces the risk of cyber attacks, as there is no central server or repository for hackers to target. Even in the event of a breach, the distributed nature of blockchain ensures that the network remains resilient and operational.
Immutable Audit Trails
In industries where compliance and auditability are paramount, blockchain technology offers an invaluable solution. Every transaction recorded on the blockchain is time-stamped and cryptographically linked to previous transactions, creating an immutable audit trail. This transparency not only enhances accountability but also simplifies the process of verifying the authenticity and integrity of data.
Secure Identity Management
Identity theft and fraud are major concerns in the digital age, with hackers constantly devising new ways to steal personal information. Blockchain technology offers a secure and decentralized solution to identity management, enabling individuals to maintain control over their personal data. By storing identity credentials on the blockchain, users can authenticate themselves without relying on centralized authorities, reducing the risk of identity theft.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the impact of blockchain technology on computer security cannot be overstated. From enhancing data integrity to revolutionizing identity management, blockchain offers a myriad of benefits that are reshaping the cybersecurity landscape. As Rajeev Lakhanpal rightly emphasizes, embracing blockchain technology is not just a strategic choice but a necessity in safeguarding our digital assets against evolving threats. As we continue to navigate the complex and ever-changing world of cybersecurity, the adoption of blockchain technology will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in fortifying our defenses and ensuring a more secure digital future.

How to Enhance Security and Efficiency Using Access Control System?
Tumblr media
The number one law of nature is self-preservation that drives the need for security for a country, business, and family.
In a world driven by technology and interconnectedness, the need for security has never been more paramount. We live in an age where unauthorized access can lead to devastating consequences, both for individuals and organizations. As a result, access control systems have emerged as a vital tool in maintaining security and control over physical spaces. From securing corporate offices to safeguarding sensitive data centres, access control systems have evolved into intricate solutions that offer both efficiency and peace of mind.
Defining Access Control System
Access control system lies at the heart of modern security practices, dictating who can enter a space, where they can go, and when they can do so. This practice of restricting entry to authorized individuals is crucial for maintaining the integrity of any physical area, be it a building, a room, or a property. Historically, access control was achieved through mechanical locks and keys, a system that offered limited control and accountability. However, the advent of technology led to the development of electronic access control systems, revolutionizing the way security is managed.
Tumblr media
Physical vs. Electronic Access Control
Physical Access Control
Traditionally, physical access control was based on the principles of "who, where, and when." Mechanical keys and locks were used to restrict access, but they lacked the ability to specify times or dates for access. If a key was lost or an individual was no longer authorized, locks needed to be re-keyed. This approach lacked accountability and the ability to track entry.
Electronic Access Control
Electronic access control system overcomes the limitations of mechanical locks by leveraging technology. These systems offer a diverse range of credentials, such as smartcards, passwords, encryption keys, and fingerprints. When an individual presents their credential, the system authenticates their identity, records the transaction, and grants or denies access accordingly. This level of granularity enhances security, as access can be tailored to specific individuals and scenarios. Additionally, electronic access control system offers real-time monitoring and alerts, ensuring that any unauthorized attempts are immediately flagged.
The Core Elements of Access Control System
Access control system consists of three key elements that work in tandem to ensure security and control:
Identification: The primary goal of an access control system is to ascertain the identity of individuals seeking entry. By accurately identifying users, the system can determine their authorization status.
Authentication: Once an individual's identity is established, the system must authenticate their credentials to confirm their legitimacy. It ensures that only authorized individuals gain access to the restricted area.
Authorization: Successful authentication allows the access control system to grant access based on predetermined criteria. This step is crucial for maintaining controlled entry to specific areas.
Types of Access Control System
Access control system comes in various types, each catering to different levels of complexity and functionality:
Basic Access Control System: The system relies on a user-input PIN to trigger the unlocking of a door. While the system lacks decision-making capabilities, it provides a basic level of security.
Semi-Intelligent Access Control System: Semi-intelligent system possesses the components necessary to control a door but don't make access decisions themselves. It relies information to a central controller, which then grants or denies access based on preconfigured rules.
Intelligent Access Control System: This advanced system integrates directly with a central PC, offering comprehensive control and monitoring capabilities. The system enables real-time tracking of individuals, their activities, and their whereabouts, making them ideal for both residential and commercial applications.
Benefits of Access Control System
The advantages of implementing access control system are diverse and far-reaching:
Enhanced Security: Access control systems significantly reduce the risk of unauthorized entry, protecting individuals and assets from potential threats.
Elimination of Key Duplication: Access control eliminates the need for physical keys, minimizing the risk of unauthorized duplication and enhancing overall security.
Employee Protection: In a world where security threats abound, access control systems create a safe working environment by preventing unauthorized individuals from entering premises.
Activity Monitoring and Reporting: Access control systems maintain detailed logs of all entries and exits, which can be invaluable in resolving security breaches or disputes. They also aid in monitoring timekeeping and productivity.
Granular Access Control: These systems allow for precise control over who can access specific areas, enhancing security for sensitive zones.
Integration Capabilities: Access control systems can integrate with existing systems within an organization, such as vending machines, print management, and PC access, streamlining operations.
Conclusion
Access control system has evolved from simple mechanical locks to sophisticated electronic solutions that combine security, efficiency, and accountability. In a world where threats to physical spaces and sensitive information are on the rise, the system is an essential tool for any organization seeking to safeguard its assets, employees, and reputation. Whether it's the basic protection of a business premise or the intricate security needs of a data centre, access control system offers a comprehensive solution that adapts to the ever-changing landscape of security challenges. By embracing the access control system, we embrace a future where security is paramount and control is at our fingertips.

The increasing number of migrants and refugees and the low number of deportations has become a major political issue in Germany, with the right-wing populists capitalizing on the anti-immigrant sentiment.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced a tougher asylum policy in a major interview with Germany's Spiegel magazine, in which he promised, "We must finally deport on a large scale those who have no right to stay in Germany." He called it unacceptable that deportation procedures often drag on for years.
Now, Interior Minister Nancy Faeser, a Social Democrat like the chancellor, wants to follow through on the pledge and has presented a bill that has been approved by the federal cabinet.
She told reporters in Berlin on Wednesday that the reform of deportation procedures was only one step in a series of migration policies.
"We are ensuring that people without the right to stay have to leave our country more quickly. In this way, we are strengthening society's support for the reception of refugees in Germany," she said.
She said the restrictive measures ensuring more and faster repatriations were necessary so Germany could fulfill its humanitarian responsibility for those needing protection from war and terror. "To protect the fundamental right to asylum, we must significantly limit irregular migration," Faeser said.
New rules for deportations
Faeser's bill provides for more powers for authorities to enforce deportations, especially of criminals and people smugglers. The bill's main points are:
Authorities will no longer notify individuals in advance of their imminent deportation, with the exception of families with young children.
In cases where the person in question lives in shared accommodation, police will be allowed to enter and search rooms other than the bedroom of the individual. According to the authorities, people have often evaded deportation by hiding in shared accommodation.
If a person does not have a passport to show, the authorities will also be able to search their private cell phone or lockers to establish their identity.
The maximum period of detention prior to deportation will be extended from 10 to 28 days to give the authorities more time to prepare for deportation.
Members of organized criminal groups in Germany can be deported, regardless of whether they have been convicted of a crime.
Germany's high number of refugees
Germany has taken in more than a million people seeking protection from President Vladimir Putin's war against Ukraine. On top of that, some 244,000 people from other countries applied for asylum last year; this year, that number could rise to 300,000.
But even those who have no grounds for political asylum or refugee status can often not be repatriated if there is no country willing to take them in, their country of origin is a war zone or they themselves have serious health issues that cannot be treated in their countries of origin. Some people simply cannot be tracked down by authorities. Over 200,000 people fall into one of these categories.
According to the Interior Ministry, by the end of September, there were around 255,000 people living in Germany who were obliged to leave the country, of whom around 205,000 have a "tolerated status" (called a Duldung in German), meaning they are theoretically obliged to leave the country but cannot be deported.
According to the German Interior Ministry, by the end of September, 12,000 people had been returned to their countries of origin. Faeser now wants to speed up deportations. "Those who have no right to stay in Germany must leave our country again," she said.
Conservative opposition approves
The bill will need approval by the federal parliament, the Bundestag. The main opposition party, the center-right Christian Democrats (CDU), has signaled consent, calling the bill a first tiny step in the right direction.
The parliamentary group leader of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD), Alice Weidel described the Interior Minister's bill as a copy of her party's demands: "Out of sheer panic, AfD demands are now being adopted," she claimed.
The plans have found a more mixed response within the governing coalition, particularly the Green Party. "In our view, these are massive encroachments on fundamental rights," said Green Party lawmaker Filiz Polat. "The right of deportation is to be tightened — in my opinion, disproportionately and too severely."
Human rights organizations have criticized the extension of the detention period as inhuman. The NGO Pro Asyl said that injuries and suicides have become more likely in "deportation detention." Another NGO, Terre des Hommes, feared: "Children and young people are threatened by the planned tightening of the law forcing them to live a life in permanent fear of deportation."
Migration expert Gerald Knaus was skeptical that German authorities would now deport many of the rejected asylum seekers who have the so-called tolerated status. "The idea that you can get those, some of whom have been here for years, out of Germany and into other countries by deporting them is illusory," Knaus told DW.
Negotiating with countries of origin
Knaus believes that the planned measures are sensible in principle. "But migration agreements are much more important," he says, referring to cooperation with states that take back those who are obliged to leave Germany.
In view of rising refugee numbers, Chancellor Scholz had announced that deals would be made with several countries: "We will conclude agreements with countries from which refugees come who cannot stay," Scholz said. Negotiations with Georgia, Moldova, Kenya, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan are underway.
But several countries are unwilling to take back their citizens, according to Knaus. He points to Nigeria, Zambia and Iraq as examples.
So the planned stricter rules on deportation are only a first step and will hardly be an effective deterrent, he said: "If the goal is to reduce irregular migration to Germany, then one can doubt for many reasons that this will succeed."
