I haven't read much but based on a few simple translations, the new main story arc involves certain ES idols auditioning for a worldwide(?) dream unit in a show called "4piece" and we even have a new producer!

I think what's interesting about this arc is that it would focus more on the idols' individual strengths outside of their respective units

Also, I think Chiaki's also part of the audition based on how he appeared on the PV they showed in the 9th anniv livestream so I'm looking forward to it~

I'm not sure if you've seen this one too but JPstars' April fools gag this year was so WILDDD they even have a full song for it

They basically collaborated with Yagami Chitose, who is an actual shoujo mangaka artist, for the story and illustrations in the MV

The story itself involves a ton of shoujo manga tropes (including Hajime / the MC somehow bumping into 4 people at once) and it was a fun read lol

We even get to enjoy random domestic moments with Sol like this one~ Since we pretty much live together with him, we sound like a married couple (though a lot of those moments involve banning him from the kitchen)

4. what got you into enstars? -- ive been sort of aware of enstars ever since i was into love live back in like 2018-19 but i dont think i wouldve gotten into it if it werent for engstars!! it really made the series more accessible lol i wasnt really willing to try really hard looking for translations until i was at least a little bit interested in what the series had to offer. i played the game at launch casually for a while and then i watched the anime and then i read meteor impact and some other mostly ! era stories and i was long gone by then

5. what's your favorite headcanon about the character you produce? -- i have a bunch of headcanons abt aira but im most fond of my hc's about his relationship with rinne!! i hope the writers will explore their dynamic a little bit more in the future because i think they're funny. theyre just a guy and his little brother's girlfriend boyfriend you know?? heres some of my hcs abt them owo sorry if this is long

rinne has asked hiyori on a couple of occasions to get him exclusive eden merch and specifically merch of himself so he can give it to aira. he doesnt realize that eichi and rei both regularly try to outdo eachother in the 'giving aira idol merch' competition but he is beating both of them on accident

whenever hiiro or kohaku are in anything that arent their normal units (like puffy bunny/la mort) aira and rinne form a sort of truce so they can go support them together. hiiro thinks its very sweet and kohaku is very very embarrassed

honestly??? theres not really any enstars group or character thats completely free of something either horrifically sad or fucked up. but ill try and give a recommendation!!

so, i asked a discord server for help on whod theyd recommend and the general group consensus was that mitsuru is probably the character thats the most normal

hes a member of ra*bits (my second favourite group actually!!) who are generally the most normal group most of the time (if you ignore nazuna and his backstory....) they have their strange and devastating moments (most of which nazuna is responsible for...) but they have a lot of silly fun moments as well!!! (really this can be said for every group/character, but ra*bits are generally known for being the most wholesome in the current time period)

mitsuru is very high energy, he loves dashing around and eating bread!! i also think hes got some of the best vocals in the game (you can find his solo here!)

but really enstars is mostly just pick your poison. no character is fully innocent, everyone has moments where theyre the hero of their own story and where theyre the villain of someone elses, its really just a matter of what can you put up with and understand when it comes to favourites. but of course, there are characters that are generally guiltier than others.

we can look to eichi as a great example here (especially since i know youre at least slightly familiar with him), hes often condemned by newer fandom members just learning about his past (and even some older fans as well) as horrific and irredeemable (and tbh i cant exactly blame them), but even he has moments where hes the hero to someone. (i would so desperately love to tell you about his complicated relationship and history with wataru and how they essentially saved each other but thats a VERY long story and requires some understanding of a very important lore event known as "the war" which contains VERY heavy topics so. maybe another time.)

but yeah. while there are some enstars characters that are generally more wholesome than others, in the end, every character has strengths and flaws and has wronged another cast member to at least some degree.

i love listening to the cover of (RE)PLAY by eden and trickstar. even if the flute part is bizarrely prominent.

okay now i get to gush about my faves <3, eden (made up of sub-units adam+eve). their vocal performances are always really fantastic. and they tend to have really great choreography. in-universe they're one of the Big 3 most successful/popular units, and unlike fine and knights (sorry) they've really sold me on why. even if some of their songs will have me oscillating between "maybe this song isn't very good" to "this song is their best one" as i listen to it.

ANYWAYS, im about to talk way too much about eden.

something neat about enstars is that the va's are instructed to sing in-character, one of my favorite aspects of this is how jun's va sings from their earliest songs compared to now.

in Sunlit Summer (earliest in the the timeline, and a favorite of mine lol), hiyori and jun sound so similar it's genuinely difficult to figure out who's singing what by ear. and this is intentional!

at the point when eden is formed, jun is in a place where he has very little sense of identity, terrified to voice any personal opinion or desire, crafted by his former environment to be subservient. so in his early vocal performances he is literally imitating hiyori's vocal style, doing everything in his power to vanish into hiyori's shadow. early eve songs in general are very distinctly "hiyori" in sound, vocals and orchestration. (and ibara, as their producer, crafted in an inherent hierarchy of hiyori being the Center and jun Support at the beginning. which is reflected in adam too but that's off topic)

so it's really fantastic to see how much has changed as the timeline goes forward, such as eve's most recent song, Ruby Love, where Jun sounds distinctly like Himself (even though he retains elements of his inspirations like hiyori and jin sagami), is the center with hiyori playing support, and the song itself is a style of music very Jun. as part of an event where jun actually feels equal enough with the rest of eden to voice a dissenting opinion from everyone else! it's really satisfying to see.

tangentially related, jun's solo (Back-Alley Monologue) might be one of my favorite ballad's like, Ever. the performance is gorgeous and tender on its own, but every time i actually think about the lyrics about how eden saved jun from the worst time in his life, and how being with them is so much everything that he's ever wanted that it feels like an impossible dream. it makes me so emotional that my stomach hurts. if i hear this song in a vulnerable moment i might die.

another i really love is Deep Eclipse. it's pretty notable for being very different from the rest of the discography, a sweet and soft and kinda inspirational song (so different that many people who don't read eden stories think it's their worst song, that it doesn't suit them). this difference is important for a few reasons;

eden as a unit was created to be particularly artificial compared to most enstars units, with highly crafted stage personas and even a clause in the contract forbidding personal relationships between members. their unit concept is literally being The Antagonists who seek to corrupt the world into sin (particularly adam, where nagisa's stage persona as God is so different to his personality that ibara literally writes scripts for him to follow).

HOWEVER, instead what happens is all the members build a deep connection with each other, to the point that they become THE most important people in their lives, and they inspire each other to become better, happier people. i'm pretty sure every member (excluding ibara, because he's extremely repressed) has explicitly said that eden saved them.

and so Deep Eclipse is notable, for being a song where the Stage Personas are dropped the most, for being very emotionally honestly and vulnerable, and being about healing from their trauma (which, being enstars, is substantial). it's probably The biggest example of how the unit has changed from what it was supposed to be when it was formed. also the singing is really pretty.

okay that's enough of that i'll just do general recs for actual sound now:

ibara's solo Poison Strategy is an absolute banger. even if it's basically just a song about being The Poisoner.

cannot overstate how ibara's Concept in eden is literally the poisoner. and in real life. he loves to be evil.

i think Ruler's Truth is my fave adam song

i love every eve song. Sunlit Summer is my fave i listen to it everytime i want a sunlit summer. Trap For You is my fave, yaoibait aside it's soooo fun to listen to. Ruby Love is my fave, idc if its gay club music!

love Faith Conquest. i will defend hiyori's weirdly autotuned wail that sounds like he's dying.

lyrics aside, i really love the sound of Dance in the Apocalypse

on a non-eden tangent. i haven't really read any valkyrie stuff, but i do really love the ex-valkyrie songs, for how well they evoke the absolutely terrible fucked up state of the unit in that moment of time.

A Castle Built of Sand and Sacred Youth's Games are very clearly both about the imminent self-destruction of the unit, in a meta sense. the former in a bittersweet tragic mourning of everything good that original valkyrie had, and the latter dwelling in the misery of everything terrible about it.

Sacred Youth's Games especially, it's a song that sound like anxiety. the sharpness to the vocals in general, the vocal parts feeling like the ebb and flow of an argument that occasionally breaks into a shouting match and how the chaotic instrumentation sounds like it'll fall apart if one note gets out of place. all while still being convincingly like a professional song they would feasibly be performing in-universe

1. Who is your main idol identity? Do you have multiple? Feel free to list as many as you want!

my main is and always will be the one and only izumi sena of knights and ensemble stars fame. i have other big / core ones but he is my #1 spiritual connection, #1 kin, etc. its all about him. ena from pjsk i don’t consider an idol but she’s also huge for me, and it’s a music franchise so worth mentioning i suppose. my biggests from enstars are izumi, koga, mika, natsume, and hiiro i think. other sources, i highly kin chisato from bandori and you from love live who are idols. - 🏹

My main two are Rei and Leo from Enstars! I kin a lot more from ES as well, but outside of that I do have like music sourced kins (bandori, aaside, etc) but I don't really consider them for this ask game since they're in bands and not really "idols" per say. From Enstars I also am Eichi, Shu, Mao, Keito, Kanata, Hajime, Rinne, Tsumugi, Nagisa, and Tatsumi. - 🪽

2. What Unit(s) were you in? What were the people in them like? Were you ever a solo idol?

i’ll just talk about enstars to limit this list a bit. all my enstars kins have at least one canon where i was in the “correct” unit (hokuto, chiaki, hiiro, jun, mika, niki, koga, tomoya, izumi, natsume). i have a natsume canon where i was in trickstar instead of makoto. i have an izumi canon where i was still in knights, but we became four people as leo ended up leaving for good. as mika i remember some very distinct non-canon shuffle unit projects that were important to me, including one that had myself koga jun and mao together for a shuffle unit related to some sort of fashion or modeling thing with kind of edgy clothes. in one of my koga canons i had a pretty prominent solo career while i was still in undead, but also making and releasing my own music on the side as a personal project type thing. the people in my units are my loved ones much more often than not. knights, undead, switch, the other halves of eve and valkyrie, even more. these are people who have planted themselves deep into my heart. i don’t remember solo careers other than koga but i won’t rule it as a possibility. but my units are always really important to me. - 🏹

In all of those, I was pretty much in the same units except for alternate canons as Mao (Knights) and Tsumugi (Eden?). I'll mostly just talk for Rei and Leo since I cover like... all units with those and I don't want to talk about everyone in an ask. In Undead, we all had really close friendships I think. I saw Adonis as another younger sibling and Kaoru was like my best friend. Koga and I got together and were eventually married (in my main TL) but we all were just really close! Not a lot of bad blood in my opinion. Koga butted heads with us but it was never anything extremely serious. As for Leo, LOL. We all fought a lot but at the end of the day we all loved eachother I'm pretty sure! I got along well with everyone and had the most struggles with Sena and Suo... Naru looked after me a lot and fussed about me which got a little much sometimes but not super bad. Rittsu and I never really fought from my memory? We spent a lot of time snuggled and napping together and just relaxing honestly. And while i was loud he never really minded my noise, unlike Sena. Sena and I were together and lived together too later down the line but we clashed a lot in our differing autism and other mental issues. We're always good for eachother and love eachother and nothing can change that though. At the end of the day things are okay. Suo though I just see too much of myself in so we struggle a lot. I don't have the most memories with him because early on I just didn't care all too much but hopefully I'll remember more down the line because he really is a special kid. - 🪽

I've just thought of something angsty. In the au where the player gets transported into enstars as an idol, the characters don't hold anything back when it comes to harassing the player, right? Imagine if the character that's directing their hatred towards the player was a comfort character. The player loved them a lot and when they were feeling sad, all they had to do was open the game and see their favorite idol. Now, that very same idol was looking at them with hatred, sending insults and just outright breaking their heart and probably hurting them mentally as well. The ones I think that would go all out are Izumi, Shu, Tori, Madara, Hiyori, Ibara, Himeru and Nantsume 🤔 Those are just my opinion though.

And even if they do find out and try to apologize, it's likely that the player won't be able to look at them the same way ever again. (The other idols might see this as an opportunity. Less competition and if they manage to cheer you up, you might turn to them for comfort instead.)

But yes omg that would hurt so badly! A comfort character is something so personal and special, as the name suggests, they probably gave you a lot of comfort when you were going through some rough times. Whenever you saw them, you couldn´t help but smile because they always managed to cheer you up. Maybe you would put their solo song on loop sometimes or you might look up fanfic on Tumblr for them and happily giggle to yourself whenever you found something new you hadn´t read before. They meant so much to you, you really loved and adored them!

Which just makes it hurt even more when they sneer at you when you enter the room or they just outright throw insults at you, asking you why you´re even here. You´re not the one they want, just leave before they hurt you

Like, it´s already so difficult because you´re trying to come to terms with the fact that you just entered the world of the video game you adored and everything is so strange and unfamiliar. But you think to yourself, at least you´re finally able to talk to the idol you love so much! Isn´t it just like a dream come true?

But if anything, it´s more like a nightmare. You´ve barely stepped foot into ES or exchanged a single word with anyone, but they all seem to immediately hate you for some reason. Being so heavily disliked for an unknown reason feels terrible, it´s like you have no one to turn to in this strange new world.

But more than anything else, it hurt when your comfort character treated you just the same, if not worse than the others. They know that the player liked them more than anyone else, they were getting most of the attention, but then you came and chased them away. How dare you?

It´s all too much, they´re so different from what you always imagined them to be and it just hurts so much, You wanted to believe that at least they would be on your side but you were very mistaken.

(Btw I think you´re spot-on when it comes to the idols that would be the cruelest to the reader in this scenario)

When the truth finally comes to light, they´re on their knees, begging for you to accept their apology. They didn´t know it was you! How could they do something like this to you? Please forgive them

But those apologies just leave a bad taste in your mouth. You´ve seen what they´re really like and no matter what, your view of them has been forever tainted

About the Recent Ensemble Stars News

Well I certainly wasn’t expecting to return to Tumblr like this but that’s 2021 for you amirite.

Anyway, in case you haven’t heard, Happy Elements has requested that the fandom Wiki remove all their Ensemble Stars translations. From what an admin friend has told me, it’s speculated to be because the wiki has unavoidable ads for revenue, meaning they “profit” off of the translations. Now, please keep in mind fan translations of Ensemble Stars have been illegal since the start. This is not them suddenly swinging an axe at the English-speaking fandom, they are merely enforcing a policy that has been around since the game was launched and it is within their full right.

That being said, I will be keeping up all of my solo work. I may no longer be a part of this fandom, but I had a decent run and put a lot of time and heart into my work so unless news comes out of Happy Elements wanting all fan translations removed regardless of where they’re hosted, they’re here to stay. However, any translations I did with other translators may or may not be deleted. 

Also: PLEASE DO NOT UPLOAD MY TRANSLATIONS ANYWHERE ELSE, SUCH AS ANOTHER WIKI OR A PUBLIC GOOGLE DOC. I’d go so far as to ask people to not save them in private Docs, but that’s out of my jurisdiction. That being said, if I catch wind of anyone doing the former, all Enstars translations will be removed. Period.

Pspsps mind if I use the ask box to talk about a few of my own thoughts (and headcanons cause this got out of hand) on who in enstars the prsk characters would be a fan of?:

-No one so far has mentioned Akatsuki and for some reason of all the PRSK characters to like them I think Honami?? I don’t get why she just seems like she’d like them

-Shiho, while she doesn’t hate CrazyB, is definitely a little tired of hearing them be talked about all over the live house she works at. I just kinda think this because Shiho seems like a very strict, “ok if we’re gonna go pro we need to do it right” kinda person and then theres this idol groups whos just kinda WINGING IT shes a little confused

-An has gotten Kohane to sing an Eve song with her at least once (come to think of it, Eden and VBS both have a theme of 2 pairs coming to together as one quartet group)

-I think you mentioned before that Tsukasa probably introduced Touya to Valkyrie, and Tsukasa seems like he’d be a fan too (Classical, and I’m fairly sure Tsukasa canonically likes to sew, + Shu’s in dramatica)

-Emu has probably introduced Nene to Sora’s solo (“It’s about video games you’ll love it”)

-Speaking of Nene, she probably listens to a lot of idols mostly to focus on their singing voices rather than the music itself, she does this to help find more ways for her to project her singing voice properly

-Speaking of Emu, random headcanon she sometimes calls Rab*its the “bouncy bouncy fun group!” and people have to guess what she’s talking about

-N25 probably puts Knights music in the background while their working sometimes, especially since Mizuki loves it, Kanade and Mafuyu seem ok with it and Ena probably couldn’t care less (anything is better than what her brother blasts at full volume all the time)

I never mentioned Akatsuki in my original post (mainly bc I don't know enough about the group to say anything about them) but for some reason you are so right about Honami??? Shiho also definitely seems like the type of person to be concerned about Crazy:B, all her related events have her concerned about doing everything right to go pro so having this random group just?? Do what they want?? Is very confusing and concerning to her. Your An and Kohane comment also made me immediately think of trap for you bc you cannot tell me An hasn't convinced Kohane to sing that with her at some point ("we gotta do the fake kiss, Kohane, we gotta follow the choreography!")

Also definitely believe Tsukasa would love Valkyries outfits and has attempted to replicate them to varying degrees of success. Also also, Emu referring to Ra*bits as the "bouncy bouncy fun group" is such a her thing to do that I'm probably gonna steal that for my wxs centric project stars fic. N25 also definitely listens to Knights together, I feel like they all probably resonate with at least one song from the group (and I feel Knights would also be their biggest fans, especially with infinitely gray)

If we ever get more Divisions, what characters would you like to see? What would you like to see represented?—if we get new characters, it better be because it’s a 2nd generation tbh. i actually kinda wanna see hypmic take it out of japan tho and make divisions based in other countries like china and south korea!!!!! the world of hypmic implies hypnosis mics exist outside of japan so i think it’d be cool to see hypnosis mic: china or something like that lol

Do you follow any of the seiyuu outside of HypMic?— i still cyberstalk hayama-san lol and i do keep up with whatever bat seiyuu does in general, as well as iwasaki-san!!!! btw!!!!! hayama-san is going to be in an anime called kawagoe boys sing coming out the same season as rhyme anima➕, sakakihara-san’s dead mount death play is returning as well and iwasaki-san is co-starring in an anime called the four yuzuki brothers, and takeuchi-san has landed a regular gig with cookpad where he’ll be cooking meals every month starting later this month so pls do support them LOL

What moment in the HypMic series made you feel the most emotional?—in canon, that would be the if we rust etc drama track and the nb/mcd breakup lol. outside of canon i still can’t believe i celebrated bat’s third anniversary in nagoya with that incredibly special 8th live and the stage ending has done some irreparable damage to my heart tbh

Did any of them come true?— i didn’t know it until i happened to go back on my blog a bit ago but i actually correctly guessed rei was trying to bring his wife back waaaaaay back in 2021 based on his speakers lol. most of my rei theories were on point so who knows what else i guessed correctly but just forgot i did lol

How do you hope the series meets its conclusion?— i’m partial to the conclusion playing out like it does in rhyme anima and track 4 where the leaders went on their own to face the big bad and then the 2/3gumi showed up and reminded them exactly why they need each other lol. i was hoping for a power vacuum situation where the government was overthrown by the cast and we’re left with a bad end kinda feel to a cliffhanger that opened room for a 2nd gen that kinda resents the 1st gen a little lol but somehow!!!!! i got my power vacuum because rei kinda single-handedly took down the government!!!!! idk what to expect now lol!!!!!!

1) i actually posted about it lol but i say my hypmic anniversary is when death respect came out!!! i got into around that time when a third jp merch site i used to shop at had a listing for bbmtc patches and yamada ichiro’s patch was the cutest thing i had ever seen lmao

2) besides ichiro’s face lol i listened to dba and was sold

3) hm!! i think it tracks with other stuff i obsess with!!! there’s characters with depth, finding bonds with each other/being found family, with a healthy dose of action!!!! the fact it’s told thru music is a plus; the fandoms i hung around longest in the past utilised character songs to supplement their character and i lost my mind then much similarly to the way i do now lol

4) i didn’t have a negative opinion on anybody the moment they appeared actually!!!! (except for rei lol but that was because he was disrespecting ichijiku and not for his crimes as a deadbeat dad lol) obvs the ones who stood out were ichiro, then jakurai, and then kuukou lol
