“I was cold last night and didn’t want to turn on a light and risk waking you so I went looking for something warm to wear in the dark. I thought I picked one of my own sweaters and by the time I woke up the next morning and noticed what I had done, I was simply too comfortable to change into something else. I truly didn’t mean to upset you, and you can of course have it back right now, or I can wash it first if you prefer that…”

She was already starting to pull the sweater over her head as she was talking, revealing the plain black shirt she was wearing underneath and making Enid stare for at least a full second longer than would have been socially appropriate for a roommate or even a friend. She only just managed to pull her eyes away in the time it took Wednesday to get her head free again. They were both blushing heavily at this point.

“Do not worry, I don't need to talk about anything”, Wednesday replied, placing her papers on the desk nonchalantly. “I was just trying to be a better girlfriend”.

“A better what?”; Enid asked in a choked voice.

Her alarmed tone made the brunette stop what she was doing and turn to look at the girl across the room.

“Do you- Wednesday, do you think we're dating?”, Enid asked quietly.

A beat.

“Are we… not?”, Wednesday scowled.

Enid stared at her. Wednesday blinked once.

Oh.

“Uhm, no?”, the blonde replied very softly, almost in a whisper.

Her tone ended in a question, in doubt, confused. But the answer was overwhelming.

Wednesday had misunderstood everything.
