It was just another warm and pleasant day on the Boiling Isles, the daytime sky rich with orange and purples, as you and a group of your bird friends were joyfully chirping in a towering, leafy tree together.

You were a plump dove with fluttering eyelashes and the preenest of white feathers.

Suddenly, the bright conversation about which breads on the Isles were the tastiest began to die down when non-bird whistles were heard by you and your friends.

Shifting your gaze downward from the shared branch, you and your friends observed a fine young man with cropped golden hair.

The thickness of his black brows made him look extremely handsome, and his big and lively smile had a gentle excitement to it.

Your bird buddies were silent and unable to respond to the man's sweet whistles due to their inability to socialize with non-witches.

However, you didn't shy away from responding back.

"Coo, coo, coo!" you cooed, curling your slim and small beak into a smile.

Noticing that you were the only bird who responded back to his whistles, the man laughed and sent you another whistle, this one soft, which you found to be quite flirtatious as you felt your auriculars heat up a bit.

"Coo!" you cooed again as you watched the man offer you his index finger to land on.

With excitement, you accepted his offer, fluttering down gently as you perched on his finger with your little feet.

You began to look at the man's face.

His eyes were warm and bright, his orbs filled with so much life, and his nose had a prominent bridge that made it look curved.

It was clear that this man was cute and extremely good looking!

You wondered if he had a wife.

While gazing at the small bird, Caleb started to stroke its feathers with his finger.

He chuckled at the sight of you nuzzling against his touch.

"My, my, aren't you just lovely?" the blonde complimented, cooing softly.

"Coo, coo!"

"Well, dovely," he corrected himself, chuckling a second time.

Caleb made cute little kissy noises at you, causing you to go pink in the face as you smile and attempt to shield your shyness with your wing.

The things you would do to those lips if you had a pair of your own rather than a beak...

The Boiling Isles' violet and orange skies becoming soaked in shades of light pink and baby blue signified the full emergence of spring.

Clara spent her spring morning preparing the food for her and Caleb's first ever picnic lunch together.

In their basket, the witch included their usual fare favorites, such as thumpkin stew, Griffin egg sandwiches, and a fresh, colorful salad sprinkled with parsley and pizzazz spice.

She also added a few new extra sugary treats that she baked herself, along with one full bottle of regular apple blood that she managed to make sparkle with her magic.

After Caleb leads his beloved to the wrong tree in the forest multiple times to have their picnic under, apologizing to her every time with a sheepish smile as she giggles into the back of her hand and forgives him, the two finally arrive at the one he had chosen for them.

Clara's green eyes lit up with delight as she saw the large blooming tree coated in beautiful pink flowers amidst dark green leaves, as her eternal bright smile grew.

She thanked Caleb for picking it as their lunch location with a sweet kiss on his right cheek as he assisted her in setting up their blanket and unpacking their picnic basket.

Since I want 2024 to be a year filled with nothing but writing progress for me, I've decided to work less on short fics so that I can focus more on my ao3 uploads and my multi-chapter Caleb x Clara (My Wittewife) story that I've been secretly working on.

This is going to be my first time ever writing a full-length fic, and I'm very excited, but also very nervous lol. 😆 😅
