I’ve finally finished Part II of my EGF. But don’t get excited because I’m turning it into a 3-parter and Part II’s a real downer 🤣 so glad I had the foresight to add “Angst with a Happy Ending” as a tag. Wasn’t this fic supposed to be about groping?!?!

Anyway, here’s Simon being magical and sexy:

He snaps his eyes open and I shiver at the heat he’s billowing. A gust of wind lifts my tailcoat. Can dream Simon summon wind?

Holy Magic.

“I just…” his mouth barely opens to speak these words “…want….” I can see the muscles clench in his jaw as he overworks them “…you to be…” the wind he’s conjuring loosens my hair from its slick hold, it’s whirling up my pant legs, a wildfire without the flames, the window shutters bang, I can hear the wind whistling. the floorboards creak beneath our feet, we’re caught in the centre of a tornado and Simon Snow’s its master “…happy.”

There’s a swift whoosh, a thunderclap, and then the room falls silent.

Simon pants like he’s just sprinted a mile.

And as much as Simon wants to continue hating Baz, the dead spots between them are starting to heal …]

This Will All Go Down In Flames by @facewithoutheart - BAND AU! BAND AU! After the fall of the Watford Goats, the two stars get back together to re-record their last album, but they haven't spoken in 10 years...takes place in Austin, TX. I love it. I think about it twice a week.

The Mirrors That Hold Us by @artsyunderstudy - My favourite Simon Snow fic. Honestly anything that Ashton writes is fucking amazing, but this one is Carry On divergent and broke my heart and then put it back together. They are also writing Someone Wicked at the moment and it is SO GOOD. Recommend everything they do.

Rebel Rebel by BasicBathsheba - The rebelverse series is everything to me. It tells the story of what happened in the early years at Watford and then is canon divergent. Sequel Golden Years is just as amazing. For Marauders fans, it's sort of like the ATYD of the Simon Snow series. Sort of.

Hang The Moon by @captain-aralias - Arranged marriage! There is also a sequel. [when the Old Families offer the Mage a deal that will put an end to their conflict, he accepts. Simon hates everything about the deal. (And his life. And he definitely hates Baz.) He’s only going along with his part in it because he’s the Mage’s Heir and he has to. There definitely aren’t any other reasons.]

network connectivity problems by BasicBathsheba - TEXTING FIC! Simon texts a number he thinks is IT. It is not.

Local Hero by BasicBathsheba & breadofgod - football (soccer) au! Baz is a world famous footy star, Simon runs the fan pub in his home town and is his biggest fan. Baz is suddenly back in town, trying to keep a low profile. Enemies (sort of) to Lovers. READ IT.

We Still Bloom by @artsyunderstudy - I couldn't post this list without including this absolutely perfect Hanahaki disease fic!! The art for this is absolutely stunning (as is all the art for Ashton's fics).

Slings and Eros by palmimpressed - This is a WIP but it's so good. It's a loose interpretation of the Eros and Psyche myth.

Unintended by @captain-aralias - Fake relationship trope! They are just best friends pretending to be engaged and are definitely not in love with each other....

Four Funereal Weddings and An American Stag Do by @captain-aralias - AWTWB au. Simon walks out in chapter 10 and doesn't come back. Nine months later, Baz sees him at a wedding. Another one that breaks my heart and puts it together again.

Large Black Coffee by BasicBathsheba - Coffee shop au. Every day Baz comes in to get coffee, and every day he finds a new insult on his cup.

Let My Love Open The Door by tbazzsnow - This is a quarantine fic, but please don't let that deter you. It's so lovely. Baz is a teacher stuck at home, Simon is the delivery driver from the local pub he orders from. They become friends and then some, all through the door of Baz's house.

Paperback Writer by BasicBathsheba - Publishing au! If you haven't figured it out yet, this author never misses. Baz is a junior editor, Simon is an author. [Sir Scone is the bane of Baz’s life. Trite children’s fantasy with a golden hero and ferocious dragons and intrepid princesses. They’re wildly popular, and Baz hates editing them almost as much as he hates the man who writes them: Simon Salisbury, Mage’s pet project author, and also maybe, possibly, the most handsome man Baz has ever met.]

Bite Me by TheWeatherBee - [When Simon’s magic makes a spell out of “bite me” during a fight, Baz finds he can’t eat anything until he’s bitten Simon. Which he won’t do. No matter how much Simon wants him to.] Hot.

5 Days, 5 Nights, All-Inclusive by RooBadly - [Simon Snow (29, single, and working for the Coven) finds himself press-ganged into covering for the usual guide on the Coven's yearly tour of magickal Britain. All he has to do is read from the cards and make sure the same number of mages gets back on the coach as got off. Doable. Until he sees the guest list. And then it's time to sow some chaos.]

This Must Be The Place by BasicBathsheba - This one made me cry, what of it. [Simon is stuck in juvenile care over the summer. He's lonely, disillusioned, and desperate to talk to Penny. But when he makes a Snapchat to try to contact her, he ends up talking to the most unlikely person.]

There’s nothing different about Natasha. She is saying the same thing as usual, she is carrying her bag and her books as usual, she is dressed as usual, her hair is done as usual. Yet I feel like it is a new person I have in front of me.

I don’t feel good about this new person.

I announce the total for her order, accept the five-pound note she hands me, keep the change when she tells me to, make her drink and hand it to her.

“Congratulations on your engagement,” I murmur with a cold smile.

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

Currently 22, but I think of only 16 of them as "real" fics. The others are podfics, the pornbot meta, random stuff I could've just left on tumblr, etc.

2. What’s your total AO3 word count?

108,039. If you subtract the words I didn't write (like 97% of Birthday Man and add words the AO3 didn't capture because they're in screen shots (like Impulse Shopping with Simon Snow), it's more like 75k.

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Carry On exclusively. I did set out to write a Buddy Daddies fix-it fic right after the series finale but abandoned it because (1) I actually just wanted to read BD fic, not write it, and (2) omg, it is so much harder to write for a TV show where there's not an existing written author voice to imitate.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Ready or Not (20,698 words) Kudos: 460

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I do! I love getting comment responses and engaging with writers that way.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

That has to be What Eats You, but it wasn't angsty for Snowbaz, only for Lamb. 😂 Ooh, and the ending of Missing was sort of angsty--though again, not really for Snowbaz--but I didn't write that part, @oxi-is-a-moron did. (So it's not boasting to say that it's beautiful 🥺.) I have a WIP idea that's still just a summary paragraph. It's extremely angsty with a bittersweet-at-best ending, and I will only ever write it if I decide it hurts more to keep it in my head than to let it out.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Everything's a Story. Because the ending is Baz pandering to ME.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Not yet, but it's been less than a week since I posted the fandom's first bestiality fic, so we'll see.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Yes--about half my "real" fics are mature or explicit. I find it very very challenging to write, it takes a lot longer than other writing, I think because my discomfort makes me very self-critical. I've come to realize that the sex has to have emotional / narrative significance for me to want to write it--the one time I wrote a sex scene where the whole point of it was sex, I cringed afterward. (Tbf to baby me, it was my first explicit fic and second fic ever and unbetaed, so whatever.) I guess I can deal with writing smut a little better if it's super cracky but even then, I'd want to keep it brief.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

Nope, probably wouldn't. I've thought about "what if Snowbaz time traveled and met Kim and Will from the Will Darling Adventures" but it would be pretty boring my only thought is "they're the same, huh?" (For the record I would read the hell out of that crossover.)

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Not that I know of.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Yes! I love collaborating. For WIPfest I finished @facewithoutheart's WIP, What Eats You?. And @oxi-is-a-moron finished my WIP, Missing. And there was Birthday Man, the Simon's b-day round robin with probably most of you reading this. AND @ic3-que3n and I wrote our bizarre tell-all confessional about the pornbots together. And this spring @ivelovedhimthroughworse and I spent a lovely spring day writing to prompts and thought we'd memorialize it. Honorable mention to @ic3-que3n's art in Behind the Magic. Technically I wrote the words (it was CORBB) but the concept was their idea and we did so much scheming and giggling that it felt like co-writing.

14. What’s your all time favorite ship?

Malmage.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

None. I have a long google doc of ideas but don't really think of something as a WIP until it gets is own file and I start writing. I tend to only have 1-2 WIPs going at a time, and right now there's only one, Basil Pitch's Diary. (Of which ~ 200 words are posted but I have 20k+ and plan to start posting after COC.) So, none. If I ever start the aforementioned angst fest there's a good chance I'll bail partway through.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I'm funny. I'm told I am good at mixing humor and sex and angst. I have come up with some original concepts. I commit to the bit.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

While I might have original concept ideas, I'm weak on worldbuilding. I tend to stick squarely within the canon-verse. I've never written an AU. My only OC was a sentient mop. I've never even written a villain, I don't think. I struggle with making the MCs do things that I wouldn't do myself, for good or bad. (For instance, I've written almost zero love confessions and tend to write around them because I've never love-confessed to anyone I wasn't already dating and even imagining it makes me want to vanish in a puff of smoke.) I am a very slow writer--I'm in awe of people who can bang out thousands of words in a day, or go from idea to execution in hours. If I can manage a steady 200 words a day, not including editing, that's pretty fast. This pace makes it hard to picture writing a really long fic, ever.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I've never really thought about it. It could be nice for scene-setting; I love all the Norwegian in @scone-lover's Northern Downpour, it really adds to the atmosphere, and the German in @spockzilla's Twelve Days of Christmas cracked me up. The lack of translations made it that much funnier when I finally looked it up myself, or when the meaning was obvious. (Guten Abend, meine kleinen Twinks!) So--maybe someday?

Ready or Not. It's the only thing I've written that I've also read for my own entertainment.

Shepherd is one of my favorite characters in the series, but he is a little bit of a mess. See below.

He knows about magic and…. is part of an online community for it

When he was 18, he got drunk for the first time with a creek dryad who told him her life story.

He owes ‘at least 3 imps his firstborn’

Befriended trolls with bone broth

Midwifed a centaur foal

Helped a unfairy with taxes

Swore on his life he wouldn’t tell about the Snowbaz plus penny thing

Went backpacking with a Sasquatch and gave it his toothbrush

Met a water/river spirit… by introducing himself to it

Used to be a storm chaser now chases Magic because it’s more thrilling

Willingly goes into a vampire lair with not much hope of escaping alive.

Starts to try and tell a vampire named Josh his life story some highlights include: ‘My name is Shepard, I’m from Omaha’ and ‘My parents are divorced, how about you’

Tried to warn Josh the vampire that drinking his blood is a really really bad idea

Promptly kills that vampire when the vampire tried.

‘And I am also slightly… a little bit… cursed’

‘Wrong place, wrong time… a series of miscommunications and cultural differences’

The curse left him ‘well and truly fucked’

He’s now an illegal immigrant

He tried to get help from the curse from a genie

He learned of the curse ritual from ‘some guy I met’

He lost his third born child to a giant for the ritual

The demon he summoned? He actually got engaged to it…

He was not forced to marry it, he asked for its hand… on accident

He has tried to hook up with a fairy

It is highly implied that he has gone home with other creatures

He lost his firstborn child to three imps

Lost his last name by telling it to a fairy.

He got an STD from a merperson, but don’t worry, he’s only a carrier

The curse was labeled invalid because of how much if a wreck he is. See above.

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

2. What’s your total AO3 word count?

Around 370k, but of those about 40k aren't mine. So in reality, something like 330k?

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Only Carry On! I don't have the attention span for more of one at a time lol

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

1. How I wonder what you are aka baby fic

2. Mess is mine aka secret dating fic

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I don't 😭 which makes me feel guilty and ungrateful, but alas. Every time I've tried to in the past, I'd run out of steam after half a dozen comments or so. Don't get me wrong, I love comments, they fuel me etc etc. Replying just makes me unreasonably anxious

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Technically it's Love of Fate because it doesn't have an ending. It was supposed to be a prologue to something longer that would eventually have a happy ending, and that I simply never wrote lol

That said, the true angstiest ending is probably my All there's left is a ghost of you series - same moment, one from Simon's pov, the other from Baz's. Set between carry on and wayward son, which tells you everything about why it's here :) (Although arguably, those are hopeful endings. Kinda.)

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Almost everything I write has a happy-ish ending, but the one indisputable happiest ending is probably How I wonder what you are

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Not necessarily hate, but one time I did get someone mocking my fic for a mistake I made. Which, like, I deserved, for straying so far out of my comfort zone lol

Anyway. I have upped my research game since, so. Lesson learned?

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Yes! The kind I want to read lol

Seriously, though, I tend to write weird stuff I can't find elsewhere. Someone once mentioned there's little mirror sex fic in the fandom, and BAM! I got the itch to write one. I've also tried my hand at web cam sex, body modification, and... [reads smudged handwriting] cemetery sex?

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

I haven't yet, but never say never, right? Although I'm much more likely to just write AUs instead. As in, take the world of the original, chuck the characters and just replace them with snowbaz lol

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Probably not? I mean. I hope so lol

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Nope. I've thought about doing it myself, but there's roughly any engagement with fics in Portuguese on AO3, so it doesn't feel worth the trouble

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Birthday man! Though I might be open to it if a) someone with a compatible style is interested, and b) I find some free time to actually write lol

14. What’s your all time favorite ship?

Do I even need to say anything? (It's snowbaz)

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Sigh. It's probably Let your colours bleed, because It's been 3 years, so I've just... sort of grown past the story? Which makes me sad, because I still like the concept, I just can't connect to anymore

There are a handful other WIPs still hanging on my ao3, but I still have hope for them.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I like writing plot! And also actions scenes. And banter, maybe a bit too much lol

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

The beginning of a fic. And also the ending. And also the mid-

Seriously though, I find that I tend to be either too verbose or too succinct when I don't know exactly what I'm trying to say. Like, I either charge through it and the thing falls flat, or I drag it on for several paragraphs that amount to barely anything. Hopefully, I can mitigate that with the power of editing and beta readers

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I think it's cool depending on context! Like, is this a situation in which this character would simply switch to another language? Also, why?

I haven't done it yet, though.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Take a guess. (It was actually Harry Potter)

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

Dance Like a Flame! My specialest baby. My little darling. My magnum opus.

Hello. Sorry if this is weird, but you're the only snowbaz fan person I follow who has followed me back, so I figured you probably don't think I'm too crazy.

I was wondering if it would be ok to get an invite to the discord server? If you are on there of course. 5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I do! It’s just lovely to chat a bit with people, and I also want them to know I appreciate their comments. Sometimes it’s a little while before I respond but I always do.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I’m a happy ending person, or at least hopeful ending. That being said, The Danse Macabre ends on a glum note.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

That’s a tough one (see above), but probably What Remains After The Storm.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Not these days, but I got a couple as a teen. The silliest was someone angry that my fic was a canon divergence–nothing more, nothing less. It was silly.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Sometimes. I struggle with smut. If sex seems right for the story/plot, then I’ll add it, but I don’t tend to write it for its own sake.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

No, the closest I’ve come is an idea for an AU, but even then I’ll probably strip out all the characters from that setting

I had an idea for a Piranesi-inspired fic. Wrote a bit of it by hand almost a year ago. I’d like to keep working on it, but realistically I don’t think it will happen.

Plots, maybe? I like writing little twists and reveals.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Smut or otherwise physically intimate scenes. 

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

Personally I don’t like it. If I can understand the meaning contextually, then that’s great. If I don’t need to know the meaning, also, great. But if that text is relevant to the scene in some way, I don’t like it, even if translations are provided at the end. No shade on anyone who does this, but I find it brings me out of a story. Edit: Now remembering I did this in When Pigs Fly, and while it wasn't plot relevant, I understand if anyone thinks me a hypocrit.

Good Omens (I think)

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

That’s a tough one to answer, but I’ll say What Remains After The Storm. There are definitely parts I think, in retrospect, I could have done better, but overall I’m really happy with it. Also, it just combines so many of my loves. The Ocean! Moors! The Fae! Stupid Sexy Mermen!

That being said, Accidents Happen will always have a special place in my heart.

Age gap: 0

I'm pretty meh about this one, but it depends on the type of age gap. If it's Lamb/Baz, I tend to dislike it because Baz is usually 20 whereas Lamb is 400+, so. Not great. But Lamb/Braden where they're both a few centuries old? Hell yeah, sign me up.

Codependency: 0

Eh, not the biggest fan. The whole "I can't live without you" bit puts me off, especially because I'm aspec.

Obsession/Possessiveness, jealousy: nope

No. You really gotta convince me if you want me to read a fic with possessiveness. Especially because so many snowbaz fics like this are Baz getting hit on/practically assaulted and Simon is just described as jealous. As a survivor of SA myself... just no.

Now, fics where one of them is a BAMF is a different story. Those I love.

Opposites (grumpy/sunshine, etc): +1000

I am biased because this is practically my relationship with @that-one-dingus (hi, Remi 💖), but YESSS THIS IS THE GOOD SHIT. Gimme the grumpy one being pouty with the other trying not to laugh while they cuddle. Give me the ADHDer being hyper and the autistic being Done. GIMME.

Enemies to lovers, Enemies with benefits: +9

It gets a 10 for the enemies with benefits, but not for the lovers part xD Look, as much as I like enemies to lovers, reading an actual getting together fic just isn't vibing with me right now. I just want to read the established relationships fics. Gimme all the enemies with benefits.

YES. YES YES YES. GIMME THAT AROALLO SHIT.

Nope. As fun as it can be, this is what most FWB fics are. I just want to read a FWB without the romance bit. Let characters be aroallo!

This is the GOOD SHIT. Gimme all that mutual pining and friends to lovers.

ALWAYS. Bonus points if it's friends to QPPs.

Yes. One of the best tropes out there. The Carry On fandom writes this so well, Bal and Nimona are great, and the moonfam is such a fantastic example as well! I adore moonfam fics because of the found family element. (And I absolutely love how every official TDP description includes Runaan in the phrase "Rayla's parents". Because he and Ethari ARE her dads!)

Hurt/Comfort: +100000

One of The Best tropes out there. There are so many fabulous snowbaz and ruthari hurt/comfort fics out there!! This is one of my favorite tropes Of All Time.

Love Triangle: -10

No. Enough romance and fighting over the same girl. Just kiss each other, guys.

Poly, open relationships: +3

Haven't read many fics with poly relationships, but I'll read them! They can have some really fun dynamics.

Mistaken/hidden identity: +7

As a lover of Nimona, Spies are Forever, and The Dragon Prince, I am obligated to rank this one high. When done right, these fics can be FANTASTIC.

Monsterfucking: +100

YEAH. Give me ALL the monsterfucking. This is a fuckin GREAT trope.

Pregnancy: nope

Not a fan of pregnancy fics. Fics with kids are fun, but pregnancy itself? Not my jam.

Second Chance: +10

Absolutely fantastic. I've written some second chance fics myself. I adore these fics.

Slowburn: -7

Meh, not my thing. I have a short attention span and get bored easily lol. If it's a one-shot, sure, but long chapter fics are hard for me to sit through, especially if I'm not engaged.

Soulmates: nope

Never in a million years. No matter how you spin it, this trope is aphobic. The idea that you're missing a part of yourself, that something is wrong with you if you don't have a partner--romantic, platonic, or otherwise--is aphobic. Aromantic people exist. Asexual people exist. Aplatonic people exist. We exist. This trope is very aphobic and arophobic and I despise it.

Enough "just friends", enough "something more", enough "something missing". I hate seeing these tropes. I don't care if a friend writes it, I won't read it. Not trying to attack those who write it, but. It leaves an icky feeling with me.

OH MY GOD. Listen, I circled around Tumblr for 100 years, never really engaging or "getting it"...until one day I *needed* it. I came to find the snowbaz crew. And I did! I found unbelievably supportive community. True friendship. A masterclass in writing, in sexuality, in openly living the life that brings you joy.

1. How many words have you written this year?

Alright, I started writing fics in August again (after... years lol)... thus far I have 41292 words, including WIPs (but also, my WIPs combined are just 1k words). 14k words were written very spontaneously for COC.

5. What work of yours got more feedback than you expected?

The Same Old Story. I'm not kidding when I said I expected to release it into the void and that's it. Realistically, there's always an audience for everything, so I expected like a couple of kudos at most. It was a very lovely surprise to get people on board while it was being published, and to get such thoughtful and reassuring comments. Comments that engaged with the structure of the story, that told me the unnerving elements were working, that enjoyed what I did with Agatha and Snowbaz, etc. It made me glad I spend as long as I did trying to figure out how to tell that story!

6. Favorite title you used

Most of my titles are just song lyrics haha (in the spirit of the trilogy! but also I've always done that)

10. What work was the quickest to write?

Ok, so without counting tumblr drabbles and the quick stuff that's under 700 words for COC? I’m not quite sure? Because I would write, do other stuff, then I come back again, do other stuff etc and I don’t really pay attention to how long I’m writing? 

I guess there are... 4 candidates? 

I wrote my friends to lovers AU Can’t Fight This Feeling super fast (T, 2.8k words). I wrote 1 chapter for a bit in the morning, 1 after lunch, 1 in the afternoon and 1 practically at night. Actually, that counts as an entire day, so maybe I have 3 candidates:

I wrote half of Where I Want To Be (T, 3k words) at midnight for like an hour and a half I think? and the other half during the mourning. Does it count as less than a day? 

I wrote the bodyswap AU Mismatched (M, 3k words) the same day I published, it took me a couple of hours. Definitely less than a day. 

And I wrote Lover for Life today (E, 1k words) in a couple of hours too. I guess this one wins because it’s the shortest? The whole writing process was pretty fast. Let’s say the smut with feelings wins.

As in: I’m queer, I’m MLM, I’m pissed at my relatives, so of course I’m writing about SnowBaz in both gay as in happy and queer as in fuck you vibes. Enjoy!

It’s appealing to see Simon trying to bite back his cheeky grin.

We’re standing side by side now, next to the appetizers table, looking at the party in front of us. His tail is flicking around, eventually wrapping itself around my waist or my arm, then letting go again. I don’t think I’ve stopped holding his hand for even a second since we arrived. 

It started as a joke, saying that an event like that, gathering all kinds of homophobic, transphobic, and overall ignorant and annoying relatives, was the kind that  demanded  excessive PDA. In our relationship, Simon and I never really displayed acts of physical intimacy in front of others, because of a number of insecurities. That is, until some weeks ago, when we got engaged. Suddenly, being appropriate and discreet or preserving what little dignity I had left was not important  at all .

I’m spending the rest of my life with this man, and I’ll be soft with him and loud about it whenever I want, thank you very much.

— They’ll never consider coming to our handfasting with us acting like this.— he whispers to me, leaning his head so he speaks close to my ear while I wave briefly at a great-aunt that looks mortified in seeing us. I wonder what it is – Simon’s wings and tail out for everyone to see them? Our very obvious gay behavior? My big, voluminous, magnificent floral skirt matching my equally gorgeous floral suit jacket? 

Probably all of it. 

— You really think they’d come to our handfasting  at all ?— I ask. He shrugs. Crowley, I love this man.

— Well, it’s kind of important, innit? You’re the Pitch heir, your wedding is supposed to be a big deal.

I’m going to combust. He’s so lovely.

— My  queer  wedding? I don’t think so, Snow.

— I do,  Tyrannus .— he bites back. It’s his way of calling me out for saying Snow instead of Simon.— But I don’t think we should invite anyone.

I immediately smile.

— No point inviting all these people. I figured only a few would come anyway. Our friends. Ebb and Fiona. Daphne and the children, mabe my father. I think we should only invite the people we actually want there. Maybe not for the next year, the more  official  thing, but at least for this first ceremony. It’ll be like having your wedding dinner rehearsal in the form of an engagement party.

Just as Snow is about to reply, there’s someone catching my hand.

—  Basil! — that’s my aunt giving me a handshake. Not Fiona, I mean, she’s from the Grimm side of the family. Dev’s mother. Since he’s not hanging around under her wing, I’m guessing I’ll be seeing him with Niall very soon. I still don’t know where they stand on their relationship being open for the Old Families to know about, so I can’t tell if it’s a good or bad sign.— I’ve been looking for you everywhere, dear!  There are so many people here, Merlin, it’s impossible to find the people you want to meet. Oh, I almost forgot! Dev told me the news, congratulations on the engagement! 

I thank her, still distracted, thinking about Simon. I’m not surprised she didn’t find us sooner. Honestly, the way we are, it would be normally very easy to spot us. But Snow and I have been running around all evening. Mostly because we wanted to provoke as many people as possible.

Back in the beginning of our relationship, Snow was terrified of a scenery like this. Surrounded by people who openly disapproved of us, who were openly staring and commenting, and even avoiding us. Now that he had gotten over it, it seemed like a challenge. He’d push his jaw forward, smile at me, and his eyes would  scream  trouble.

I love to see it. We’re a perfect match.

We danced together, we kissed a  lot  , and I made sure to say hello to every relative I knew and ask if they had already met  “my fiancé, Simon Snow”  . Which of course they did, or at least had heard of him, obviously. What kind of mage doesn’t know Simon Snow, our  savior?  And of course they’d known about our relationship. It was quite a scandal when word got out. But I spent nearly a decade pining for him, I’ve owned  every  right to brag about being with Simon, especially to people who find it revolting. It almost makes me want to invite everyone to our handfasting out of  spite . Fiona would call me a dramatic arse and, influenced by her own queer rebel feelings, say I should do it. Which is exactly why I shouldn’t.

Simon elbows me, as soon as my aunt leaves.

— Alright, maybe she can come.— he whispers.— What do you think?

I simply smile and take a sip of my punch.

— Do you want to go dancing again?
