Hi!!!! I read A LOT of fic from A LOT of fandoms! My fav tropes are either flat comedy or enemies to friends to lovers or friends to lovers or something like that! I only read happy endings, but I don’t mind some angst in the middle. Idk what fandom you’re looking for so I’m gonna give you a list of some of my all time favs from EVERY fandom, and I’ll add one that I’ve written!

Walk That Mile by purpledaisy- 150k words 1D enemies to friends to lovers road trip AU across the US for a fun, banter-y time with some real communication issues that really get resolved well. People always say that a rom com should have a good answer for “why can’t they be together NOW?” And this one does it really well! No real angst, and a lot of fun. 

Have Love, Will Travel by @kingsofeverything - 97k words 1D YouTubers on a roadtrip AU! If you liked the first one on this list, you’re gonna love this one too! Sweet and long and full of the memories you would make on a road trip. Lots of laughs with this one, and I wish I could see the “Have Road, Will Travel” video series irl! 

Tell Me Now, Tell Me Now by @vanillabeanniall - 55k words 1D Miraculous Ladybug AU but you don’t need to watch the show to ADORE it - I know that I sure do!! Funny and sweet and SUPER ironic, with superheroes and Paris mixed in and great characters! Who wouldn’t love it?

So Let’s Cross the Lines We’ve Lost by thecoloursneverfade - 165k words 1D friends to enemies to friends to lovers uni AU that was one of the first that I read in the fandom and really made me fall in love! Good friends, some angst, hard convos that lead to real growth, and lots of really great characters. This feels real, for a lack of a better word, and is always compelling. 

Ain’t That A Kick in the Head by keysmashlesbian, wreckingtomlinson (karasunonolibero) - 23k words 1D comedy AU ft. football player!Louis, Disaster gay!Harry, memes, frogs, head dives, Blue Coolattas (whatever those are), and a very sassy Red Robin waitress named Fiona. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve read it, and I always laugh, and I always find something new to fall in love with. 

Leave it To the Breeze by @hattalove - 82k words 1D GBBO AU. This one feels like a warm hug. It’s gentle, fun, has great characters, believable angst, has you rooting for more than one of the characters to win, and is also hilarious, somehow. I’ve read this fic over and over and over, and I especially do it when I have time before a new season of GBBO. Also, have snacks!! It makes me hungry

The Section by bananaheathen - 11k words 1D Uni AU with grad student TAs, sophomore undergrads, art classes, movie analysis, and final essays as methods of seduction. Also, nicknames, nude models, a Halloween party, and absolutely shameless flirting. I loved it, and laughed the whole way through. 

I’ve Heard it Both Ways by @adoredontour - 26k words 1D Psych AU. I love this one. I love the fic, I love psych, I love the author. I’ve read most of her works, but this one has such a special place in my heart. Go read it!! 

Play it All Night Long by janine_tangerine - 43k words SPN radio AU with DJ!Dean and bartender!Cas, with music, annoying coworkers, sassy siblings, and lots of love. WHOAH WHATS THIS A LIVEJOURNAL FIC??? I know but I read this ages ago, and it has music EMBEDDED WITHIN THE FIC! It was my first introduction to Bob Dylan, who remains one of my favorite artists of all time. 

Crossroads State by Mercy - 51k words SPN slice of life AU with Mechanic!Dean, Teacher!Cas, Law Student!Sam, and lovely lovely moments. All sweet, some tension, but no real angst. I read this forever ago, and still come back and back and back to it. 

Peace and Good Luck to All Men by KismetJeska - 31k words SPN College Au. DO YOU MEAN THE BEST CHRISTMAS FIC EVER OF ALL TIME??? I read this on the first day of December every year, and it makes me laugh every time. Cas falls in love with his sister’s boyfriend, Gabe and Luke are in a seduction competition, Michael is tired of everyone, and Dean doesn’t know what hit him. 

For All You Young Hockey Players, Pay Attention by @thursdaysfallenangel - 144k words SPN enemies to lovers hockey AU. Just. Please go read this. Gorgeous and still one of the best fics in the whole fandom, imo. Cas is the new transfer on Dean’s team, and Dean doesn’t like change. 

The Complete Works of Emmanuel Allen by @violue - 54k words SPN small town AU ft. writer!Cas and local business owner!Dean. Dean meets his favorite author, but does not know it’s him. Shenanigans ensue, with a lovely warm feel. Dean builds a mausoleum and owns cats and lives in the woods. Cas needs a change of scene. Sam thinks everyone needs some more company. 

The Mirror by cloudyjenn - 25k words SPN parallel universe AU. This was one of the first fics I ever read, and I still love it. Dean touches an enchanted mirror and travels through universes in search of an answer to a question he hasn’t asked. Full of love, family, and companionship. 

Asunder by rageprufrock - 24k words SPN AU with Social worker!Dean, Doctor!Cas, Sober!Sam, and RUBY!!! Ugh I love this fic for Ruby alone. This one is more bittersweet. Dean hasn’t spoken to Sam in years due to his struggles with addiction. Sam, now sober, is getting married, and has invited him. Dean can’t face his family alone. 

But It’s a Good Refrain by lady_ragnell - 23k words Merlin Radio AU! Merlin has an anonymous gossip radio show, and someone calls in to put Arthur on blast! Morgana is a fan, Arthur is not amused, and a sort of enemies to lovers thing occurs. Just lovely, and it makes me laugh every time. 

And Like the Cycle of the Year, We Begin Again by @katherynefromphilly - 208k words Merlin canon compliant. This is the Season 6 we should have had. If you’re at all into this fandom, go read it - it’s still an all time fav for me. Hundreds of years later, Arthur walks out of the lake. Merlin has been waiting. 

Give The Dragon a Chili by @supercalvin - 47k words Merlin magical AU based on the story in New Zealand of the cat stealing someone’s underwear. Merlin’s dragon is sort of a thief. 

Fundamental Imperfection by Starlingthefool - 12k words Merlin famous author AU. Arthur likes Dickens. Merlin does not. They get into it on a panel, and twitter stan wars ensue. And enemies to friends to lovers where literary arguments are an expression of love, and stories are magical. 

The Student Prince by FayJay - 145k words Merlin Uni AU. What a classic!! It’s a magical realism royal enemies to friends to lovers AU ft. a dragon in the walls, a lovely gay soc, Gwen as a Muggle, and some really great characters and moments. Do yourself a favor and go read this one. 

Call it Love by @dalek-in-heels - 30k words Merlin RPF. UGH THIS ONE!!! Okay 1.) the author is one of my best friends, and she’s amazing! 2.) lovely fic that takes place at the end of Merlin, and still has one of my all-time favorite misunderstandings in fic ever. “Yogurty Heart” is my favorite way to say I love you. 

If Nobody Speaks of Remarkable Things by @watsonshoneybee - 35k words Sherlock AU canon compliant through season 3. This one is sad, but the title is taken off of one of my favorite books, and the writing is gorgeous - as is the characterization. Happy ending, though! I promise! So the journey is all worth it! 

In All of the Lives We Are by @dalek-in-heels - 20k words The Magicians canon compliant through the first half of season 3. Sarah does it again and writes one of the best fics I’ve ever read. Art as therapy, a sweet love story in more than one universe, and finding the will to keep going through the worst days. The writers of the actual show should have read this fic and put it on the screen. This is my canon. 

A Happy Ending? Sure Enough by me (imbellarosa) - 8k words The Magicians canon compliant up to season 4. This is the only one of mine I’m putting on the list, because I still really like this one! You need some context, but not much? Idk, just if you want to see how *I* write!

HSMTMTS 1x07 Review

Thanksgiving was a very funny ep that did a great job of building up the cast as a found family. Let’s dig in!

Very wise choice to basically just stick almost the entire cast together for most of the ep. It’s hard on ensemble shows to actually do justice to all the various friendships and relationships that exist among the main characters but it is vitally important that shows like HSMTMTS take the time every once in a while to show the mains all being friends. It was a fun party too and pretty true to life to high school cast parties (minus the alcohol)

I really liked Nini and her Lola, it’s great Filipino rep and on twitter I saw that Lola’s actress was happy to see all the tweets talking about Nini calling her grandma Lola. I liked getting a bit of her backstory and learning about her coming to America when she was Nini’s age. Her line about seeing soldiers marching in her home province is likely a reference to the second world war. If she’s old enough to have memories of either the Japanese invasion and occupation of the Philippines or the American liberation of the Philippines then that would mean she’s in her late 70s or early 80s. The actress does not look anywhere near that old but it would explain why she’s living in a nursing home

We’ve been seeing a more confident Carlos these past couple of eps; some of it is due to Miss Jenn’s support, some due to having succeeded in his relationship with Seb, and some of it is because he has found a truly supportive group among the wildcats. I liked that he and Seb arrived together and I loved that Carlos was bold enough to call Seb honey in front of everyone

EJ should be cancelled for saying that Glee holds up. I think this ep was the most charming EJ has been since the premiere. I did like that he apologized to the girl he poisoned when that plot could have easily been dropped.  I laughed when he looked up the trivia answer and then admitted that he couldn’t stop cheating. I get that including EJ seeing his follower count dropping during the sand montage is meant to suggest that to him social media is as serious as what’s going on in the others lives but it falls flat

Ricky and EJ doing the Sharpay and Ryan warmup was hilarious

I like Big Red and Ashlyn a lot more than I thought I would. Big Red was unintentionally very smooth complimenting Ashlyn and it’s easy to see that she isn’t used to being complimented like that. Carlos walking through her talking head session and correcting her was the funniest moment of the ep imo

Miss Jenn and Mr. Mazzara were surprisingly sweet and Big Hero 6 is a great movie. I’m not a huge fan of the enemies to lovers trope but I trust Tim to make it work. We can see this ep that Miss Jenn and Mr. Mazzara have more in common than either of them would likely admit; they’re both dedicated teachers but they’re both very lonely people at heart. And I do think there’s a lot of potential in a messy Miss Jenn, Mike Bowen, and Benjamin Mazzara love triangle. Jenjamin (or is it Bjenn?) is probably the ultimate endgame but I don’t think they’re done with Jike yet. I do want Benjamin to apologize for trying to get Miss Jenn fired though

So looks like we are getting levitating Troy and the musical needs to be in the gym because the theatre burned down

Gina really is Buffy 2.0 right down to the mom working for the government and having to move in exactly 10 days plot. Of all the plots for HSMTMTS to steal from Andi Mack that’s one of the worst they could have chosen. Andi Mack wasn’t able to pull off the Buffy moving plot and the show never fully recovered from the damage that plot caused. For HSMTMTS I don’t think they’ll actually move Gina and because the cast is larger she’s not as important to the show as Buffy was on Andi Mack; Gina is like the 4th or 5th lead but Buffy was the 2nd

Gina’s backstory certainly explains why she is who she is. I liked that confirmation that her dad isn’t in the picture and obviously she’s spent a lot of time on her own over the years. I don’t think her stealing Nini’s phone should have been swept under the rug but I like that her and Nini are friends now and as long as the show doesn’t try to bring back the phone theft later on I’m okay with it being dropped

Unless something radically changes it does seem like the writers decided not to go the route of Gina’s mom being a harsh stage mom. If nothing else, she just seems to busy with work to even be that overbearing and demanding 

I’m extremely wary of Nini going to a Denver art school. Andi Mack only had Andi getting into SAVA because it was the series finale, there’s no way the show would have actually been able to pull that off. It’s the same reason they retconned Jonah’s age so he was still in 8th grade in S3, they just wouldn’t have been able to make him being in a different school work

We got some good Rina and Rini this ep. Gina’s hat for Ricky was a sweet gesture and Ricky needed someone to tell him to get out there instead of staying home alone moping. I liked the Rini duet in the beginning and Nini’s jealousy was very apparent. It’s telling that Ricky ended up taking Nini’s advice and calling his mom (and I liked that Nini is still number 1 on his favourites)

I continue to like the writing of the kids. Ricky seems to think that his mom just recently met Todd which is naive in a realistic way for a 16 year old. There’s no way that his mom would have let Todd answer her phone on her behalf while she’s in the shower if she’s only known him for a little while. She was living in Chicago for at least 4 months and very obviously considered her marriage over, she has probably been with Todd for a while and her new relationship was likely a factor in her flying back to SLC to officially end it with Mike

I think HSMTMTS has the best writing about social media I’ve yet seen in a teen oriented show, probably because Tim is under 40

Looking Ahead:

1x08 will be very pivotal for Rini. We’ve gotten a lot of clips leading up to their almost or actual kiss and I’m glad that Nini calls Ricky out for being a punk. Their chemistry really shines through in the clips we’ve seen, especially when Ricky says that Minnie Mouse wasn’t his first crush

I’m glad that Nini isn’t keeping her Denver school application a secret, that was something I hated about the SAVA plot on Andi Mack when Andi kept it a secret from her friends. Denver is similar enough to SLC that if the show wanted to have Nini spend time there it would be easy enough to film in SLC which is why I’m worried they will actually send Nini there at some point

I’m glad that Gina is being honest that she’ll have to leave a day early, I always disliked that Buffy left without saying goodbye to her friends and then ghosted them and that it was never addressed when she came back. I do think the show did too good of a job with Rina so the shift back to Rini might be jarring

We know that the dean of the Denver school is in the audience so she’s likely one of the unexpected guests and I’m sure Ricky’s mom with or without Todd will be another which is likely what leads to Ricky running for a bit before returning to finish the show

Hi! I'm new to Reylo shipping.. I felt it in TFA but with the shitstorm that ensued in the fandom after that I sort of tried to stay away. After seeing TLJ though I can't help it, I'm won over 100%. I just wanted to tell someone lol and I followed you very recently and I think you're pretty awesome so I guess I am directing my Reylo confession to you! There is this song "Come To This" by Natalie Taylor and it's so Reylo (esp. post TLJ) I want to die... I'd love to know your thoughts.

Would you believe if i told you we’re actually not that different?

Truth is, I came out of TFA shipping both Rey with Finn and with Kylo, cause i saw two directions they could go : the best friend or the enemy (to everyone that knows me these are two kinds of romances I cannot resist).

 I did feel like 1- an arc with Kylo would be GREAT for the story in general (the whole dark and light force and balance and all the things I’m gonna talk about later) but i wasn’t sure if they would GO there because, to me  on TFA, it felt like they were going way more towards Finn and Rey. Which was fine and great , they are best firends and love and support each other each other. Part of me, however, just felt like, for this story specifically…i wanted a romance that would also bring a huge plot arc with it – but i was okay with everything as long as deep and well written.

And yeah when i came out from watching the movie, i encountered a HUGE amount of hostility for everyone that shipped Reylo - even from people that weren’t on the fandom. I wasn’t that involved on the fandom until TLJ (yeah, now) and tbh I don’t think i ever seen a fandom get as much heat as the Reylo shippers - and heck I’ve lived through Jonerys and… well there was a lot of heat there.

So i stayed away from reylo for my own sake, because i wasn’t even sure if they were going to go there (as much as I wanted them to) and I didn’t want any more heat in my life for the ships i had - and i figured IF it came to it, if it came to a moment i wouldn’t be able to hide this anymore, then i would just go for it.

And what do you know, as soon as the The Last Jedi trailer came out….. i realized the moment had come.

Now…. man… TLJ… WHERE. DO. I EVEN BEGIN. I have watched this movie two days ago and only today i was able to form coherent text about my feelings over the PLOT, i’m not sure I still can do it over Reylo but lemme try just a bit.

I think…. i think TLJ was epic. That’s a good place to start and when I find a movie deserving of such word I use it as much as I can. The FEELINGS it brought - especially in regards to Reylo. That scene with snoke??? IT DROVE PEOPLE ON MY MOVIE THEATER COMPLETELY INSANE. When he pulled the lightsaber, when they faced each other and swirled in slow motion to fight, when they fought, when she threw the saber to him so he’d kill the guard choking him. EVEYTHING was met with such great cheering and applause that was just YES. All i can feel is YES YES YES.

NOW THIS, THIS is an interesting romance to bring for a show that deals with such huge arcs and themes. Not that other ships and loves aren’t deserving - i’m in no way talking about that. But give me a relationship that SYMBOLIZES the force and how it works, give me two people who have EQUAL AMOUNTS OF POWER (explicitly stated on TLJ) and make them clash, give me enemies that were both wronged by their parents, who were so alone, who don’t know who they are anymore, that UNDERSTAND each other in the middle of all this craziness, give me literal polar opposites and show me how GOOD they are when they put away their differences and work together.

 And give me forbidden love, it’s a simple trope but heck it is so exciting when it’s well written. (Like, imo, a lot of “forbidden love” stories happen cause the parties are from opposing sides that, later, you find out none of them were right and that the fighting became pointless and that balance and compromise is the best thing - well well, ain’t that something we need now?)

TLJ was all that. I never, in my wildest dreams, believed they’d give me in such a silver platter with cherry on top but here we are. I mean… they did THE FREAKING FORCE BOND. THE FORCE BOND. WHAT KIND OF EPIC SOULMATE STAR CROSSED LOVERS PLOT-

And, sigh, all at the same time it was hard. TLJ made and broke my heart all at the same time, and in some ways I’m glad it did because it wouldn’t even be realistic for their relationship to work and for Kylo to walk away from his personal issues all in just one movie.

Part of me is afraid of what happens now - because i can’t help it. I can’t help being scared they’ll pull the rug off my feet, the huge plot driven romance i wanted snatched away from me and all. But Part of me KNOWS this was gonna happen anyway. They ARE paralleling Kylo to Anakin, Reylo to Anakin/Padme, and the prequel arc only HINTED At anakin changing sides on movie 2 but he only committed to it on movie 3.

Not to mention the whole BALANCE message TLJ keep screaming at us, and how everything we used to know (all old SWs) is about to change because THAT order doesn’t work in the new world ( i mean…did it ever work? did they defeat evil? Cause the dark side keeps coming back, if they were truly doing things right they wouldn’t need a third movie franchise to kill it). All these messages lead me to believe Kylo has hope, the dark side has hope (*gasp*), and the light side ain’t always right (*gasp gasp*) cause it’s made of flawed people that can do dark things. And if Kylo has hope, so does Reylo - because as this romance is plot driven, the message of balance and redemption all walk together here.

PHEW. I hope this was good. I’m still too filled with feelings to say everything i want to, but at least something came out.
