But Genesis, it’s going to be so sick!” Seulgi's eyes sparkled with excitement.
“What are we even gonna do at an abandoned house?” I asked, my curiosity piqued.
Seulgi smirked mischievously. “Duh, try to summon a ghost or something?”
I stared at her blankly, trying to process the absurdity of her suggestion. “Seulgi, you know that’s not my thing because of my faith.” I took a deep breath, steadying myself. “Plus, this sounds super dangerous. What if we get hurt?”
Seulgi rolled her eyes playfully. “Relax, our friends will be there. Besides, I dabble in this stuff in my free time.”
I sighed, knowing I could not win against Seulgi’s stubbornness. “Fine... But we’re not staying long, okay?”
Seulgi chuckled, her confidence unwavering. “Deal.”
…….
……
I sat in the car's back seat, my gaze fixed on the scenery blurring past the window. Autumn leaves drifted down from the trees, clouds moved at the same pace as the car, and birds flew in circles above, lost in their world.
A tap on my shoulder pulled me back to reality. I turned to see Lara, her bright smile contrasting my growing unease. “Hey, ready to explore the haunted house?”
“Sure,” I replied, trying to mask my anxiety.
“Well, rumor has it there’s a ghost that haunts the place, but it’s probably just an urban legend,” she said with a wink.
“Yeah, I’ve heard that, too. I guess we’re about to find out!” Fatou chimed in from the front seat.
I gulped, forcing a nervous smile, already regretting my decision.
……
…..
“We’re here!” Seulgi announced, her smirk widening. We piled out of the car, armed with backpacks and flashlights. The house loomed before us, its eerie silence adding to the unsettling atmosphere. We approached the front door, but it was locked.
“Looks like we might have to head back—” I started to say, but Lara cut me off, her eyes twinkling with mischief.
“I’ve got a lock pick,” she said, pulling it out with a grin.
“Where’d you get that?” Fatou asked, eyebrows raised.
“I have my ways,” Lara replied mysteriously.
Inside, the house was surprisingly well-kept. “This doesn’t look abandoned,” I remarked, puzzled. The interior was a beige, cream, and gray mix, giving off an eerie, sterile vibe. The silence was thick, broken only by our footsteps. It felt like the house was holding its breath. A shiver ran down my spine, and I noticed Lara looking equally uneasy. The air felt heavy, and I couldn’t shake the feeling we were being watched. Our nervous laughter echoed through the empty rooms, amplifying the unease.
The kitchen had oak cabinets and a granite countertop, contrasting the outside’s shabby appearance.
……
“Maybe the ghost still lives here,” Seulgi teased, her voice lightening the mood slightly.
I rolled my eyes as the other girls giggled. “It’s kinda nice in here,” Lara admitted, looking around.
We pulled out our phones, the flashlights cutting through the dimness. We explored the upstairs rooms, which were surprisingly normal, and then ventured back downstairs. As we navigated the house, we stumbled upon a door that supposedly led to the basement.
“Maybe we can summon the ghost down there,” Seulgi suggested, her tone daring.
Lara opened the door, and an immediate sense of dread washed over me as if someone had died there. The cellar was dimly lit, filled with old, dusty furniture and cobwebs. The air was musty, and the silence was deafening. The basement stretched endlessly, its dark corners and hidden nooks adding to the sense of foreboding. The light switch didn’t work, so we used our flashlights, the beams casting eerie shadows on the walls.
As we explored, Seulgi found some paintbrushes and pencils. I stood in front of a painting in the corner of the basement. I picked it up and read the label: “Self-Portrait.” The painting depicted a young man with striking features and an intense gaze. An odd connection tugged at me; the more I looked at it, the more familiar he seemed. The signature in the right corner read: “Hyunjin.”
…..
…….
“Genesis... Genesis...” The words echoed in my mind.
I felt a tap on my shoulder. “Hey, are you coming?” Fatou said in a concerned tone.
“Yeah, I am,” I replied, my unease resurfacing.
We approached the other girls, who had already set up everything. The Ouija board lay flat on the ground. Seulgi read the instructions. “First, we sit in a circle as we have already done. Place your fingers on the planchette in a circle around the board.” We all complied, placing our fingers on the pendant. The room went silent for a second.
“So who wants to go first?” I felt all eyes on me.
“Come on, Genesis, you need to face your fears,” Seulgi determinedly urged.
I took a deep breath. “Okay, what do I do?” I asked softly.
“Just ask a question,” Seulgi said in a monotone voice.
The room quieted briefly before I spoke again. “What's your name?” I asked softly. The planchette moved chaotically, jolting a panic inside me. “Are you guys moving it?” I blurted out.
They shook their heads. “No,” they replied in unison.
“Relax, Genesis, everything will be fine,” Seulgi reassured me. I sighed in relief as the planchette formed the words “H... Y... U... J... I... N.”
……. ..
We sat for a moment, stunned. “So the ghost’s name is Hyunjin?” Fatou said, her voice steady.
“Yeah, and obviously, he made the paintings,” Lara added, glancing at me.
I remained quiet, thinking about the possible outcomes. I had even seen his self-portrait. Is that really what he looks like? Everything felt surreal, like a dream—maybe even a nightmare. My heart sank.
“Genesis...” I heard my name being called softly. I blinked, coming back to reality.
“You zoned out again,” Seulgi said, her brow furrowing in concern.
“I’ll go,” Lara announced with a slight smile. She took a breath, her eyes narrowing in focus. “How did you die?”
“Maybe asking that wasn’t a good idea,” I said, worry creeping into my voice.
“I’m sure it’ll be fine,” Lara assured us.
The planchette moved again, and I watched, captivated yet terrified. “M... U... R... D... E... R.”
……….
Lara sighed, clearly unnerved by the revelation. “Okay, my turn's over. Fatou, you're up.”
“So he was killed after all,” Fatou said softly. I began to think about how he died or why someone would hurt him.
The room fell silent again before Fatou hesitated, eyes scanning the Ouija board. After a moment of thought, she took a deep breath. “Alright, here goes. Why were you killed?” The planchette trembled, and we watched it spell out “S... E... C... R... E... T.”
“Secret?” Seulgi whispered. “Why would someone kill over a secret?” I wondered aloud, my mind racing with possibilities.
The planchette began to move again, spelling out: “K... E... E... P.”
“Keep? Keep what?” Lara asked, leaning in closer.
The planchette moved once more, this time faster: “A... L... I... V... E.”
“Keep alive?” Fatou said, her voice trembling slightly. “What does that mean?”
“Maybe he knew something he wasn’t supposed to,” I suggested, my heart pounding.
The room fell silent again, the weight of the ghost’s message hanging over us.
A tense silence enveloped us as we processed the implications of Hyunjin's last message. The room, which had seemed merely eerie moments ago, now felt suffocating with the weight of the revelation.
Seulgi was the first to break the silence. “We need to figure this out,” she said, her voice tinged with urgency. “If his soulmate is near, she could be in danger.”
The air in the room felt heavy with anticipation. Seulgi's eyes flickered with determination as she prepared to ask the next question. "Okay, my turn," she said, her voice steady.
She took a deep breath, her fingers pressing firmly on the planchette. "Hyunjin, what secret were you trying to keep alive?"
We all leaned in closer, our breaths held as the planchette started to move. It moved slowly at first, then picked up speed, spelling out: “L... O... V... E.”
“Love?” Lara repeated, puzzled. “What does that mean?”
Seulgi's brow furrowed as she thought hard. “Who were you trying to protect?” she asked, her voice almost a whisper.
The planchette moved again, quicker this time: “S... O... U... L... M... A... T... E.”
“His soulmate,” I whispered, the pieces falling into place. “He was killed because he was trying to protect someone he loved.”
The room fell silent, each of us processing this
revelation. It felt like we were getting closer to the truth, but the full picture was still out of reach.
"Where is your soulmate now?" Seulgi asked, her voice urgent, as if she couldn't let go of the thread of the mystery.
The planchette trembled, then spelled out: "N... E... A... R."
"Near?" Fatou echoed, her eyes widening. "Does that mean she's close to us?"
The planchette moved one last time, spelling out: "Y... E... S."
A chill ran down my spine. Whoever Hyunjin's soulmate was, she was near us, possibly even one of us. Our innocent adventure had suddenly turned into something more serious and deadly.
….
Before anyone could respond, the sound of creaking floorboards echoed from above. We all froze, our eyes darting to the ceiling.
“It’s probably just the house settling,” Seulgi said, but she didn’t sound convinced.
We gathered our things quickly, feeling an overwhelming need to leave the basement. The Ouija board was left behind, and the secrets have been discovered. As we made our way back upstairs, the atmosphere in the house seemed to grow heavier, as if the walls were closing in on us.
We huddled in the living room, trying to make sense of everything.
“So, what now?” I asked, glancing at Seulgi. “Do we just leave and pretend this never happened?”
Seulgi shook her head. “We can’t ignore this. If someone’s in danger, we need to do something.”
Lara nodded. “But what? We don’t even know where to start.”
“Maybe we should look for clues,” I suggested, thinking about the journal I had seen earlier. “If Hyunjin left anything behind, it might tell us what happened.”
A cold breeze swept through the hallway, and the temperature dropped noticeably. The hairs on the back of my neck stood up.
“We need to get out of here,” Fatou said, her voice barely above a whisper.
“No,” I said, surprising even myself with my sudden boldness “We need to finish what we started. Hyunjin died protecting someone he loved. If there’s any chance we can help, we owe it to him—and her.”
The others looked at me, fear mingling with determination. Seulgi sighed deeply, her resolve wavering. “Genesis, we can’t do this alone. We need more information and more help. Let’s go back, regroup, and determine our next steps.”
Reluctantly, I nodded. Maybe Seulgi was right. Leaving was the safest option for now.
We hurriedly packed up our things and returned to the car, the house's eerie silence following us. The oppressive feeling began to lift as we drove away, but a sense of unfinished business lingered.
Back home, the night's events replayed in my mind on an endless loop. The Ouija board and Hyunjin’s messages all felt surreal, like a bizarre dream. After a long, hot shower, I finally collapsed into my bed, hoping for a few hours of rest.
My heart skipped a beat as I saw a figure on my bed,
“Genesis,” a soft voice whispered.
I froze, my heart skipping a beat. Slowly, I turned my head towards the foot of the bed.
“Hyunjin?” I whispered, my voice shaking.
He nodded, his eyes filled with a sadness that seemed to reach into my soul. “I need your help,” he said softly, his voice carrying the weight of centuries. “She’s in danger.”
I felt a surge of emotion—fear and empathy. “Who is she? Where is she?” I asked, my voice steadier now.
“She’s closer than you think,” Hyunjin replied, “You are the key, Genesis. Only you can save her.”
“Why me?” I asked, my mind racing with questions. “How am I connected to all of this?”
Hyunjin's gaze softened. “Because you are here, Genesis. You are my soulmate, reborn.”
The room seemed to spin as his words sank in. Everything clicked into place—the strange sense of familiarity, the connection. It was all so surreal. But it isn't. This is all real. It was me all along; it's just fate.
“But what do I do?” I asked, my voice trembling. “How do I protect myself?”
Hyunjin stepped closer, his form becoming more solid. “You must find the truth about my death. Only then can everything be fixed.
Trust your instincts, and trust in our bond.”
As he spoke, I felt a warmth spread through me, a reassurance that I wasn’t alone in this. “I’ll do it,” I said, my voice filled with determination. “I’ll find out what happened and protect us both.”
Hyunjin’s form began to fade, but his smile remained. “Thank you, Genesis. Remember, I am always with you.”
With that, he vanished, leaving me alone in the darkness of my room. But I no longer felt afraid. I had a mission, a purpose. With Hyunjin’s love guiding me, I knew I could face whatever dangers I came across.

I hate how forgotten the oni are narratively. I know they're kinda overpowered and could break stories, but they effectively went extinct which is really weird in regards to the Balance™. What balance? This is legend of korra levels of "Good side should nuke Bad side out of existence" instead of acknowledging that neither are fully good or evil.
They are so extinct that formlings were functionally a nerfed version of them.
✓ Shapeshifters
✓ Based on japanese folklore (this case being a belief that the native people of Hokkaido, the Ainu, are the children of animals. No distinction between man and wolf as the story goes, if you played Ōkami, the Oina are based on the Ainu too)
✓ Connected in some way to FSM
✓ aesthetically derived from yōkai (in their animal forms)
- Nerfed to only have one transformation
Lloyd's oni powers weren't mentioned at all in s2p2 of dragon's rising and ooh man that is enough proof for me to believe they're forgetting about it. 20 seconds of power for what? Just to tell us oni fans to shut up for another 12 years? Garmadon is an oni endling (last of his species) and he doesn't even know jack about the oni. They are dead in culture, purpose, and in function. :(
- oni guy anon

This is a pirate story.
Like everyone you'll meet for a long, long time, you don't come to this life because you choose it. You become a pirate to stay alive, and you spend every day of that life pushing forward to the next one, with your teeth bared. You survive out of spite, surrounded by death. You watch death delivered again and again, to stronger and weaker men alike, as you push forward in a world that tells you it's a battle just to exist.
You find an island of survival with someone as lost as you are. Like you, he has no one, so you teach him what knowledge you've managed to gather. He quickly surpasses you, able to think and command in the ways you can't. But his mind is strange and it wanders; he follows stray whims. His mood lifts and falls like the tide. You know how to be steady, to be blunt and rough in turns, to dig in when he needs an anchor. So you learn to work together - and you thrive.
He takes a command and his name becomes legend, and you, you're his second. This is your job now, and you're the only one who can do it. You're the only one who can move him, the only one that understands him. You know that one day you'll get your reward, acknowledgment for your role, something that's not just attached to his name. But maybe it doesn't even matter - because there's a place for you beside him, and you know where you fit. As long as this is yours, then you know who you are.
And then the tide shifts. He's temperamental, searching for a new life while you're still focused on keeping this one afloat. And someone catches his eye, some idiot pretender who's too lucky to die. You grasp after them, violent, trying to yank him back as this latest novelty pulls him away. You spit an oath: 'I'm not dying, not for your new toy and not for you.'
You have to stomp out anything that intrudes on the place you've made, so he survives, so you survive. But he's bored and you're angry, and no one fears you, and the rules have changed. The pretender lives, where any other man should have rightfully died, and you're displaced. And every minute you're gone, you know he moves farther and farther from you, lured by fancy things and mannered voices, by play-pretend cartoon versions of the real things he earned.
They're things he earned by being diamond-brilliant and seeing with vision you don't have, things you earned with your hand guiding him back on course. It's a course you can't find anymore, not without firing shots. You'll sign a deal with the devil in order to find the means. But when the gunsmoke clears he's already gone, and your face hurts where he struck you.
He returns before long - abandoned by the shiny, stupid whimsy that pulled him in, just like you knew he would be. But he just breaks harder from it, and resolves to keep breaking. It's a fate worse than death - it's a stranger in his body, in someone else's gaudy clothes. That stranger's naked pain, their softness, their weakness. It's choking the life out of him, leaving you with a perfumed shadow that weeps for someone who never deserved him.
You pull him back with abuse and threats; you smile when you realize you can still draw the rage back out of him. You bleed for it, and that feels all the better. You know this terrain, you know how the ship rocks in the waves and moves under your feet. You know how to temper the eyes that glare at you in the dark, just as you always have.
You've done right. You've done it for the both of you.
--
His poison spreads in his veins. Then it bleeds up to the surface, and keeps spreading. It turns to something uglier still: crueler, more desperate, a fire that consumes everything and you're the one who lit the match.
You've earned his hate, but you can bear it. You need to keep his eyes on you, not so he doesn't drift, but so no one else is wounded. He keeps cutting pieces off of you. He keeps demanding you go, and go, and never stop, like a whirlpool that spirals down to the bottom of the world.
(In the fugue of those endless days, sometimes you feel arms gripping you tight because they can tell how you're coming apart. You aren't ready to feel them yet; you aren't ready to think about what they mean.)
You find yourself speaking of love, asking him to use his words - even though you've never known how to make love or words sit in your mouth. You almost die once, twice. You're suddenly begging for death where living was the deepest pride you had. But you're not done yet - you're not done, something won't let you be done - because you know you have to drag yourself upright and put a stop to the monster you fed.
Only you can do this, only you should do it. Because every time he asked you to let him change, to soften, to die you still refused. And now there's only one end to this.
Suddenly, you know what a fate worse than death really is.
You still can't bear to get rid of his body.
Then like some twisted miracle, that man reappears. The man who is everything you hate, so pampered and thoughtlessly gentle, comes out of the sea to view the havoc you wrought.
You lie to him for the sake of the crew, sure he'd never be able to handle what his absence helped create. But he knows. He understands this person that only you understood. He knows what's been done and why it had to happen. He knows the most important thing is that everyone else survives. He waits until they're safe before he lets himself feel the pain.
He loves this man you nearly destroyed, even now. He loves him enough to wake the dead, in a world where death is as common as breathing. How is his soft, stupid heart still alive, in this world that nearly broke the rest of you? He's stronger than you thought, somehow. He's stronger than you, and maybe he always was - the only man who ever chose this hard, ugly life.
They vanish somewhere ashore to start healing, and you're left alone with yourself and all the things you've gotten wrong. You have lost so much blood and pounds of flesh. Your fangs are blunted in your mouth, and when you ask your reflection who he is, it doesn't have an answer.
--
And then, they answer for you.
Your crew helps you stand again, bolstered by pieces of the ship you tried to blow apart. Their ship is part of you now. You're part of them, now. They didn't have to, and you don't deserve it, and the new leg they help you stand on shouldn't bear your weight.
It holds anyway. Love is stronger than you thought. You let yourself cry for the second time in weeks, the second time in decades.
Suddenly the world is wider, and there are people in it. You drink and bicker, you shape wood into art and pain into half-truth. (You say: 'I lost my leg feeding sea monsters where I should have let them sleep. Stupid of me, reckless of me.') Sometimes you laugh, and you're surprised when there's no edge in it.
You drink again, it's quite a lot of drinking. But it's to move forward to tomorrow, not to keep still. You still refuse to stop moving.
You relearn yourself, how to move with new grace. You teach what you know to the man you hated, and understand that it's still part of you, that you didn't lose it when you shed the rotting flesh that no longer served you. You watch and you listen, guarding the world they gave back to you, walking with a limb made from the wood that keeps them afloat. Even when you're silent, you heal together, not apart.
The man you hated becomes more than you ever expected. The man you loved finds more peace than you could ever give him. There are things you still have to tell him, someday when you know the words, when you know how to be the person who says them. For now they still burn in your throat, but you're learning you can be other things.
You paint your eyes and lips, and you don't feel weak, you feel brave. You feel beautiful, feel seen, in ways you didn't know you could be seen. You'd never realized before, just how much you'd wanted everyone to see you.
Your ribs crack and a voice comes out, a song you didn't know you had - or that you buried a long time ago. The ship is decked in flowers and fairy lights, and you help create something beautiful where the darkness used to live.
The crew hears your song and they dance to it, they make love to it. They call out for another one. You tell them that you have one more.
---
You deny there are storms on the horizon. You can't change the weather, you can only point towards clearer skies. You're trying to let them be the ones to steer.
The storms come anyway. You became a pirate to stay alive, took to the sea because there was no chance for you on land. But part of the world still wants people like you gone. It won't let you rest.
A man comes for your ship and your port, for your people. He comes with fancy things and mannered voices, with play-pretend cartoon dreams that cut him where he didn't expect it. He treated this life like a plaything, and it scarred him, so he's decided to burn it down.
He's the kind of man that has everything and still wants more. The kind that insist the world be a certain way and, for those who refuse, meets them with gunfire and irons. He asks to speak with you, only you, sits with you at the table and looks you in the eye like you could ever be one of his. And he says, 'don't you want to be honored for all you've done? For the world to know exactly who you are?'
And you answer, because you have one more song in you.
---
This is a pirate story:
You're more than your mistakes or the things you've lost, more than the voice that said you had to be cruel to live another day. You're more than the grasping, ugly part of you that needed power and rage in order to be seen.
You're part of something immortal: something that builds family out of refugees and love out of poison, that can never be controlled. It's something so much bigger than you, but it will never leave you, not even if they shoot down every last one of you. Because dying is easy, and living is instinct. But enduring, saying you're here and you always will be, is -
For once, you're not fighting to live or begging to die. You're bigger than both. You're exactly what you need to be.
You are good. You can have good, you can make good. You'd never believed that before, but you only had to reach out and decide it. It was always there for you, waiting.
They will always try to break you, but they can't take that from you. They can't take it from the ones you love. It exists until the end of the world.
---
Some of your jailers die poisoning themselves. Others, you cut down in the escape.
When the gun goes off, you know what's happened before you even feel the wound in your gut. But you don't tell them. You will not slow them down. You wait until they're safe before you let yourself feel the pain.
You're not even angry. Maybe you'd have lived if you were angrier, maybe you'd have stood further back or just not been there at all. Maybe you'd have made another deal with the devil, when they asked. But it feels so good, for once, to not be angry.
You know you need to tell him. There's no more time. You'll have to be the kind of person who can make the words come, in front of all of them.
You held him back, kept him from the peace he wanted. You needed him too much to let him go. But he deserves everything he ever wanted. There are people waiting to love him, even if they don't have to, even if he doesn't deserve it. He just needs to realize they're waiting, to reach out and let them.
They'll love him better than you ever knew how to love him, to love yourself. They'll let him be whatever he needs to be.
He cries for you, even after everything. You look up to where the crew has gathered, and you realize - most of your life, you always thought you'd die alone...
You've seen death a hundred times, lived in a world where it sat constant at your heels. You've outfought it, and begged for it. You've learned there are things far worse.
You wouldn't have looked for death, if you'd lived through this. It's not that you're eager to go. You're just...ready.
---
Yes, there's a version of this story where your body survives - where you take revenge with the others and take back what part of the waves you can grasp. Until you're old enough to misstep and fall in the next raid, perhaps. (You doubt you'd ever truly want to settle, not if you had a choice.)
There's a version of the story where you're a spirit that lives in the ship's secret passages. Where you're a bird that follows the waves. There's a story where your soul haunts the fledgling inn where they buried you, watching over him even now as he learns what he's capable of.
There's a version of the story where you're a grave and a memory. You're a voice he imagines when he drifts, steering him towards clear skies. You're a song stuck in their heads. You endure in the way the lucky endure: a piece of you that sits in whoever misses you.
There are no versions of this story where you really die, any more than piracy dies. Maybe he would have died - the man you were before, who stood apart from the world, who knew he'd die alone. But not who you've become. You can learn to rest, but you can never be killed.
Some things are too big and important to die. Some things are fucking indestructible.

「スペインゲーム業界の“現在”と“未来”」展
Tumblr media
"Gris" (Nómada Studio)
"Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story", "Rime" (Tequila Works)
"The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood", "Essays on Empathy" (Deconstructeam)

We got a few suggestions! Feather - Birds The description from their steam page says it best, "Feather is a multiplayer game about exploration, relaxation and immersion. Transform yourself into a bird, take flight, and enjoy a zen-like, picturesque landscape on your own terms. Swoop, glide, and backflip your way around mysterious locations to uncover hidden paths that only birds can follow!"
Shelter - Badger (Shelter 1), Lynx (Shelter 2), Elephant (Shelter 3) Shelter is an open-world game that focuses on a mother animal fighting to keep their children alive as you are stalked by predators and the changing seasons constantly bring new dangers. There are three installments and each one focuses on a different species.
Draconia - Dragons Draconia is an early access, open-world exploration game. It offers a number of different species (with more being added) and a lot of customization options. Right now, it's mostly used for chilling and rp, but there are fighting and quest mechanics being worked on.
Legend of the Guardians - Owls The wii game based on the movie that's based on the books Guardians of Ga'Hoole. It offers four different owl species (great grey, great horned, barn and spotted) you can choose from as you complete secret missions as a Guardian from the tree. We spent hours as a kid just flying around in the open-world environments and trying to complete all the missions and find collectibles.
Okami - Wolf, Divine If you haven't played this game yet, please do. It's amazing! You run around as a goddess in the form of a wolf and save the world. The whole game is in this stylized to look like it's drawn with brushstrokes and drawing is a key component to the game to activate your divine powers. We've played it countless times and own it for several different systems.
Dog's Life - Dogs (Shocker, we know) We're just digging up all the games from our childhood today. It's a ps2 game where you, an American foxhound named Jake, go to rescue your friend that was taken away by dogcatchers. Through the game you're able to take control of other dogs as well to complete missions and also just generally bark at everyone and be a dog all round town. You even get a nifty smell-o-vision ability.
The First Tree - Foxes "A beautiful, 3rd-person exploration game centered around two parallel stories: a fox trying to find her missing family, and a son reconnecting with his estranged father in Alaska. Uncover artifacts from the son's life as he becomes intertwined in the fox’s journey towards The First Tree." - Description from Steam
Lost Ember - Shapeshifters "Explore the remains of a fallen world from fascinating perspectives! Slip into the role of different animals to uncover the fate of an ancient world. Dive into deep waters, fly at lofty heights, dig underground as a mole or even climb steep cliffs with a mountain goat, there are lots of ways of getting around." - Description from Steam
AER Memories of Old - Birds, Shapeshifters "Transform into a bird and fly to explore and experience a vibrant world of floating islands in the sky. Venture down into lost ancient ruins where each step leads you closer to the end of the world." - Description from Steam
Endling - Extinction is Forever - Foxes We haven't played this game yet, but it's on our wishlist! "As the last mother fox on Earth, your cubs need all your care to survive in a merciless world that slowly destroys itself. You have to help them, teach them and save them. And you should never forget that extinction is forever – in the real world and in this." - Description from Steam
Untitled Goose Game - Geese This one needs no introduction.
games w. species euphoria
please don't spoil any of the games with stories in the replies or reblogs!
Ori and the Blind Forest - felinekin, maybe some kind of fae or angel kin too ori is very good little creature design and it moves around so fluidly but there's zero customization, if you vibe with ori it's great and if you don't, might not be for you. it's a puzzle platformer similar gameplay-wise to hollow knight (but not as difficult)
Hollow Knight - bugkin, ghostkin, voidkin difficult but very pretty and atmospheric. i've played some of it before getting stuck/being unable to progress because i'm not good at video game. hard platformer with boss fights.
Stray - robotkin, catkin this is one i've been meaning to play for ages (and haven't gotten around to pirating yet, cough) Stray is a 3d game set in a cyberpunk/sci fi world. You play as a tabby cat trying to find its way back to its home and it looks stunning. I assume the story is great, too.
Roblox Creatures of Sonaria - there are so many creature designs there you're bound to find something that's youcore their colors can be customized. It's a multiplayer survival game so it's more stressful than the other games on this list, you gotta be trying not to die the whole time
Animal Jam Classic / Animal Jam Play Wild - lots of real world animals you can dress up and change the colors and patterns of your animals. ajc is in 2d and ajpw is in 3d and has more animal options, but i find ajpw really confusing personally.
William and Sly/William and Sly 2 - foxkin old flash games available as a set on steam, a quest platformer where you run around a pretty forest environment as a red fox and find various things. the music is lovely, both games have a great atmosphere, played it a ton as kid on armor games. i dont think i ever even finished either game i just loved running around as sly (in the second game there are also little kitten-fairies that you can collect and that follow you around)
Postmouse - mousekin free on steam, 3d puzzle platformer where you're a mouse that delivers letters. it can get a little obtuse and confusing at times which is why i never finished it, but it's very charming and free to play! you run around all these huge and pretty environments as a fancy-dressed little mouse .
Lost Dream 1 and 2 - foxkin abstract/stylized/polygonal walking simulator where you play as a red fox. doesn't seem to be much story and the reviews are mixed because walking sims like this need to be like, your cup of tea.
Spyro Reignited - dragonkin of course had to mention such an OG dragon game. never played it but like, it's spyro. cartoony 3d platformer in a fantasy environment.
Oneshot - catkin pixel rpg where you play as a cat child and the gimmick is that you only have one life. the steam page tags it as story rich and having multiple endings/story choices you can make, and the graphics are beautiful, the whole game seems to be made of dark colors and poppy accents
Honorable Mentions:
Way to the Woods - an in-development 3d game where you play as a deer and fawn exploring different enviroments.
The Isle - an early access survival MMO where you play as a dinosaur and try to stay alive.
feel free to add more in reblogs, i know i'm missing a lot of classics but i'm getting tired

There's always SnicketSleuth's theory on Monty ...
link for reference: https://snicketsleuth.tumblr.com/post/143549434725/why-was-uncle-montys-trip-to-peru-really-about
ah, i had forgotten about that one. it’s an interesting read.
i think, point by point, it’s a fairly compelling theory, but the way it’s pieced together reads as deliberately provocative in a way it doesn’t need to be. i think there is a middle ground where a lot of this could be true while monty is still more the sort of person he appears to be on the page of the book rather than some sort of mastermind. i also think it’s important to not ignore that “people, regardless of how good their intentions, fail to help others due to their flaws, and if you write that off as making someone a bad person you are dooming yourself to be alone” is a running theme through out the series, and i strongly believe that monty’s character ought to be viewed in that light.
the bit at the end about klaus being a catalyst, forcing olaf’s hand by revealing that the baudelaires know; that’s heart breaking, since i am sure that is something he becomes aware of and has to deal with, and is an important point in how he changes throughout the series.
(i don’t like the use of the word responsible though, I think that’s unfair.)

I am so grateful for the opportunity to celebrate our first 90 years in such spectacular fashion, and to the theatre community for its support. As we plan for the next 90 years and beyond, my hope is that the collection continues to grow and flourish and reflect the diversity of voices that have shaped the theatre as we know it and are shaping its future.”
