After donating, I kept checking the airalo app everyday for months to see if my esim would ever be activated. One day, I open the app to find a couple MBs had been used. It was 2 GB for 7 days, and I checked everyday to see if they needed a top off. They did not need a top off for the 7 days of the plan and I could tell, whoever it was, they were using every MB sparingly and carefully.
After I topped it off for 5GB for 2 months, it took a couple days for the esim to show activated status again. I was anxious the whole time thinking the top off hadn't worked and that I had only wasted money. Again, the person who was using it started using little bits, maybe 10MB on the "good" days. As long as the number kept changing, I was relieved but they stopped about a week ago. It has remained at 4.83 GB for a while now. I don't know what must've happened to the person on the other side but I hope they were able to get to safety. I thank them for using the esim that I had sent and giving me the privilege of getting to know them on some level, even though it was only through numbers on a screen.
I am an international student who has to budget money carefully. I was willing to have rice and beans for a whole week if it meant donating the esim. I was moved by the accounts of other whose esims had been activated. I hope this post helps someone make the decision to donate an esim too.

I know you have all probably seen the esims for gaza posts circulating. Some of you have probably looked at them and thought maybe you should help out, but have weighed up the daunting process of signing up for something you're unfamiliar with vs. the gut-wrenching scale of the things people are going through on the ground right now, and you've put it off or questioned whether it will make enough of a difference vs. some other future kind of activism you could put that $6+ towards. I'm not calling you out or scolding you, it is natural to feel conflicted and ambivalent about the multiple calls for aid that you are seeing on social media.
but consider this: what would you do if you suddenly had to leave your home? how would you cope? how would you begin to plan where to go next, or figure out what to do to take care of yourself? most likely you would reach reflexively for your phone.
telecoms access is not a petty luxury in 2024. a loaded esim means the ability to call family members and find out where they are and whether they're safe, and whether they need anything you can provide for them. it means access to maps and regular updates on the situation unfolding around you. it means you can look up whether it's safe to drink rain water, or how to tie a type of knot you've never had to think about before, or how to treat an injury without medical supplies. it means the ability to tell people outside the situation what you are seeing, what you are feeling, what you are thinking. it is an absolutely crucial resource. and it starts at $6 for 7 days.
many many people have observed that internet access is changing the way the world understands genocide. internet access is life or death, and it is shaping modern history in front of you. and it starts at $6 for 7 days.
please, please visit gazaesims.com and spend 5 minutes and $6 to change the way this plays out for everyone.

When 12,300 children have been killed, it’s a war against those children, not a war against Hamas.

Manufactured Consent of Genocide: Atrocity Propaganda in Western Media Thread. Who is paying them?
Tumblr media
Why do they lie so shamelessly? And why do the NYT give them free reign to do it?
Tumblr media
They have no real sources. They just adhere to each other's stories.
And the worst part? Every accusation is a confession. Imagine what is happening to the interned Palestinians right now.

Shame on academia
At a time when students and activists around the world are demanding a boycott of Israeli products, services and institutions, the universities below have taken the cash – some of them twice:
Aston University – Weizzman Institute of Science and Bar-Ilan University
Edge Hill University – Tel Aviv University
Queen Mary University of London – The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Tel Aviv University
Royal Veterinary College – Hebrew University of Jerusalem
Teesside University – Tel Aviv University
UCL – Tel Aviv University
University of Exeter – Tel Aviv University
University of Greenwich – Hebrew University of Jerusalem
University of Kent – Technion
University of Leeds – Tel Hai College
University of Plymouth – Technion
University of Surrey – Bar-Ilan University
The Boycott Divestment and Sanctions movement has described Israeli universities as working closely with the Israeli state to develop weapons and systems that can be used to oppress and kill Palestinians:
Israeli universities are major, willing and persistent accomplices in Israel’s regime of occupation, settler-colonialism and apartheid. They are involved in developing weapon systems and military doctrines deployed in Israel’s recent war crimes in Lebanon and Gaza, justifying the ongoing colonization of Palestinian land, rationalizing gradual ethnic cleansing of indigenous Palestinians, providing moral justification for extra-judicial killings, systematically discriminating against “non-Jewish” students, and other implicit and explicit violations of human rights and international law. To end this complicity in Israel’s violations of international law, Palestinian civil society has called for an academic boycott of complicit Israeli academic institutions. Refusing to normalize oppression, many academic associations, student governments and unions as well as thousands of international academics now support the academic boycott of Israel.
