I feel like endhawks is weird

I mean yeah ig theyre both consenting adults but Endeavour is like 25 yrs older tgan hawks, he met and saved hawks as a child, he somewhat saw him grow up, feels like if you were an elementary school teacher and then you met your student at 30 when youre like 55 and started hooking up thats fucking weird

idk always hates that ships cus hawks idolizes endeavour in like a hero, i more see hawks seeing him as a father figure??? it just idk

day 7 of shidding n farding about endhawks:

i mainly wanna shine a spotlight on the voice acting in mha. people extract romantic significance and ship things based on very different factors---eye contact, hand-holding, friendship, emotional intensity whether positive or negative, blushing, shared themes and how the narrative frames the characters--and the list goes on--and personally, i gotta say that voice acting definitely is one of those factors for me!

needless to say, the voice acting is part of what initially put endhawks on my radar at all. hawks's introduction very efficiently establishes him as collected and unflappable, but in the high-end fight that mask crumbles. (also pardon the void--crunchyroll blocked my screen recorder, so the media is purely in asmr-podcast-form ig) ((in both english and japanese!))

i mean, the raw dialogue was already doing a lot, but the voice acting enhanced it even further. in these couple of lines i had to reckon with the earnestness, the familiarity, the affection, the desperation to help, and wonder where all of that was coming from. from a doylist pov, obviously, none of that was supposed to sound romantic, but from a watsonian pov the possibilities were endless! funnily enough (and there are for sure plenty of folks who validly disagree), the tone of voice to me did not sound remotely filial--like idk i love members of my family but i don't sound like that when i talk about them, and it'd feel a lil weird if i did--but that judgment of mine is personal to me and based on a lot of vocal subtleties that can easily be read as platonic by someone else. i recognize that subjectivity applies extra hard to things like tone of voice and facial expressions (i've absolutely been on either side of seeing the shipping vibes or not seeing them at all), but i think that subjectivity is more of a feature than a bug! it's part of what makes things interesting!

so anyway, when hawks was introduced to endeavor at first i was like "haha what an odd couple, ig the flaming garbage man is bumping up against a colleague for a second so he'll get humbled and then that'll be it"--then hawks started really sayin and doin shit that had me like "oh. so it's like that then. sorry my mistake" lol.

Nah hes still too fond of Rei and wants the family to get a happy ending together even though he acknowledges Hori made Endeavor too negative and only negative towards the family and the direction he in manga is going seems impossible. He is very open in interacting with fans as a fan himself in a way and his dampness was more after the chapter with the sticks. The original EnjiRei context is he very ironically doesn't ship or pander to the Endhawks ship at all. At all even though hes done BL.

Tbh I am so tired of en..hawks because idk it just feels awful when a ship is being pushed so much by marketing and it's not even canon and never will be??? Like leave me the fuck alone I want Endy stuff with his wife and family or at least All might and not only with the half-fried bird

I think for me it’s not the age difference but Hawks’ feelings in childhood where he found a lot of comfort in Endeavor. It does feel a lot like Deku, who also did not have a father figure in his life and his hero was All Might. Oh and the Todokids. Their existence makes the ship a little... As if they need any more of a mess in their family, a step parent their age… but also Hawks’ world gets bigger if he’s adopted into the family. He gets parental figures. He gets siblings. Better for him imo!

I hope you don't mind me combining these asks as they're very similar.

Thank you both for putting my feelings into words better than I would have been able too. I really don't think the emphasis on Hawks looking up to Endeavor when he was a child helps with my view of the ship. EH really does read differently than other ships with a potential age gap.

And as the first nonnie said, Hawks basically being adopted into the family as an honourary son has so much flavour to it and I prefer that so much more over them being in a relationship. I also don't think either Hawks or Endeavor are ready for proper relationships either, I think they need to grow and heal as individuals before getting into something so serious.

Anti tags are kind of just polite to do because it's really irritating to be looking for posts about a thing you like and see a lot of people complaining about it. I don't personally engage w/ people who post stuff like that I just ignore it, but its kind of courteous to post it as anti-thing when it is explicitly against that thing. Nobody looks in the tags for something they like hoping to see a post about how somebody doesn't like it. Like I enjoy endhawks, i have anti endhawks filtered because I don't enjoy seeing posts about how much any given person hates it. It's just a politeness thing.

i get that, in some ways. like if i was ranting about how stupid the ship was and how i hate them, yeah, i get the whole anti thing.

when i talk about characters/ships i dislike i don't just say "gross" and move on, i go in detail discussing positives and negatives about them. i personally think that's just a discussion? like if i go on the mha tag, im bound to see people saying "i didnt like the last chapter because ___", so i didn't think ships were much different. even with people who are like "i dont like it" and leave it at that, it's just kinda... gonna happen. part of a community is different opinions.

if someone's being a bitch and just deciding to be rude to people for liking a ship/character then yeah, trash em. but if its like a discussion where the person dislikes the topic, idk why that requires warning?

Dabihawks to Endhawks: my transition explaination

I know I have a lot of people who followed me from long ago who shipped Touya and Keigo (I was one of those shippers) but over the course of the manga my passion and love for that ship kind of burned out due to how Horikoshi kind of killed any chance of them having a connection in canon. Chapter 299 kind of solidified my thoughts on the two ships when the childhood friends trope was killed off and (that might have been the only big chance of seeing what kind of story could have unfolded between Touya and Keigo)

As chapter 299 unfolded I wanted to see how Hawks would have reacted to Endeavors past and whether he would have looked away from him instead of supporting him (which to my suprise he gave such a heartfelt conversation with Jeanist about how he would try and help him and for some reason my once negative thoughts about Endhawks kind of faded away; I use to be someone who judged the ship because of the age gap and because of how it was widely accepted that the ship itself was problematic and now looking at it if you can look past the age of the characters and truly view the connection the characters have Endhawks is a valid pairing)

I wanted to see the perfect enemies to lovers trope unfold and I found that in Jujutsu Kaisen with Gojo and Geto. It was a weird burnout for me because the more I saw Hawks admiration for Enji grew my feelings for Touya x Keigo kind of dimished. As well as the theories of hawks joining the villain. His passion for being a hero overweighted anything and I believe that was what Horikoshi was going for.

(Maybe the burnout might go away but I can definitely say that I now ship endhawks) also the theory and Enji letting Rei and the family move away and live their lives elsewhere while he finds a new kind of love with Keigo is really heartwarming

(Bakudeku is my main ship and I know you guys know that but I wanted you guys to know my situation)

Hi anon ☺️ I guess I could list a few of my favourite ships, I’ll put a ⭐️ for platonic ships and a ❤️ for romantic ships

BakuDeku (⭐️/❤️) - It’s quite a controversial ship given the history, but I personally find them an interesting dynamic and with Bakugou’s recent development it just warms my heart! Also can’t lie I have read fluffy and romantic one-shots of them on AO3 😬!

KamiJirou (❤️) - It was a ship that I at first wasn’t interested in, but slowly it grew on me and their moment in the war arc sealed it for me. I’m 99% sure if any ships will be canon, this one next to Ochako & Deku will be canon!

TodoDeku (⭐️) - Can I really say anything other than I just find their friendship so refreshing, and like Deku’s‘Todoroki is my precious friend’ 🥺 so cute!

KiriMina (❤️) - Another ship I would not be shocked about if it became canon, but I also love their dynamics! It’s a cute ship!

KiriBaku (⭐️) - I love that Kirishima was able to gain Katsuki’s respect, and I just find their friendship nice! I love that Kirishima isn’t really fazed by Katsuki’s aggression 😂.

TwiceToga (⭐️) - So definitely not romantically because of the age-gap, however the friendship between them was just *chef’s kiss* perfection! The way they both cared for each other 🥺 I wish I had a friendship like theirs, hell I wish I had a friendship like TodoDeku’s too 😂!

There are other ships I do enjoy too, like two honourable mentions are Shiggy X Spinner and Toga X Ochako! I’m open to more ships to fall into my lap at some point!

I do have a few that I hate to the bitter end, and that are ships between like adults X students or family members x family members! I can also list like three ships I have a big No-No feeling for!

DabiHawks - They’re round about the same age yes, but the only interactions they have had are negative! Like Dabi tried to roast Hawks alive, after Hawks murdered his friend and comrade Twice! Plus also Hawks has 😍 for Endeavor so not really a great combo!

EndHawks - I don’t like the two characters so I don’t search for this ship anyways, but I don’t know I find it quite uncomfortable honestly! Like Hawks is younger than his eldest son, and the same age as his daughter.

TwiceHawks - I mean can I say anymore other than the dude was murdered by the man, I don’t care if he supposedly liked him he murdered the man! No thanks!

Those are three ships that I’m not all too keen on, in fact I could even say hate them ships! I’m also not too keen on TogaDeku 🤷‍♀️! I never listed them but I have seen and have the knowledge to know that, people have and do romantically ship Shouto with his father or his siblings, or the whole Todoroki family in general with each other in big incestious ships! Those are big GIANT ass no-no’s for me!

favorite thing about them

Who doesn't love a human character with wings? Bnha has a lot of string designs and Hawks is very eye catching. He's also really interesting because he presents himself as a swallow, carefree guy but really he's the opposite. He cares a lot about helping people, and is very smart. It just nice to have a character that can be both happy and cocky as well as serious and thoughtful.

least favorite thing about them

How Hori sort of bungled his character during the Twice fight. Like that fight remains a huge sore spot for me and I'm really curious how the anime will handle it. The framing and tone shift constantly and I think it really made Hawks a negative character for people when Hori made it look like he was going to stab a defenses Twice to death for a cliffhanger ending. Just wish that's been handled better.

"Because you're a good person." As much as I hate how that fight was framed I really do like this quite from Hawks because it shows that he does want to help Twice. It might not be what Twice needed in that moment but it does show the type of person Hawks is.

Enji, BJ, and even Tokoyami. I think it's also interesting to think of an AU were him and Twice could have been friends.

As I said earlier with Enji, I have read some Endhawks stuff that was good and got me to like the ship. I don't mind him being shipped with Natsuo or Fuyumi but I don't know if I'd read a whole fic about them either. Sort of meh to me, but fine as a background pairing I guess.

Not a fan of Dabihawks as I've said. Been burned (pun intended) to many times by fics that just felt OOC to me. That or one or the other was the the bad guy that needed fixing which wasn't really my cup of tea either. I don't think it's a bad ship, just that it's one that I personally won't read anymore.

For all that he says he wants a world where Heroes get to relax, Hawks has a hard time taking a break. Even on his few days off he just has this anxiety in the back of his head that he needs to be doing something. It's not really good for him, but after years of training under the Commission he doesn't really have an off switch anymore and inaction makes him feel guilty.

unpopular opinion

I can see why people think he was set up as doing the ultimate evil when he killed Twice. There are panels where he is defiantly framed as really bad and Twice is framed as helpless. But I do think those people sort of forget that by the time he actually kills Twice the framing of them both had shifted and that it's pretty clear he never wanted to kill Twice. To me that Twice fight is a microcosm of all the issues bnha has with it's framing that leads to these huge rifts in the fandom who are essentially reading totally different stories.

Okay, I really hate to say it but…I’m understanding EndHawks a lot better than I’m understanding DabiHawks. I can’t even say that I hate it. I could see it working in a like…totally toxic, just hooking up with each other to stave off the misery of life fwb kind of thing. Like...they're both effed up and in need of intimacy and yeah they know this is probably wrong but it's all they have rn and it's definitely a little toxic but it's the closest either of them have had to the real thing. I can’t see them being, like, healthy and in love, though. Still, we all love some toxic love now and then.

Gosh, this feels so much like the beginning of Kamino…I have to imagine this is all going to go very poorly very soon. I’m a little sweaty, y’all. Also, it’s strange to me that, like…all the big players in this liberation army thing are here, considering the fact that they were subsumed by the LoV. Like…it’s been made clear that this operation is happening in unison with all the different sectors of the MLA in all of Japan, yet Re-Destro and all of the LoV are here. I would have thought that one of each of the League members would have been shipped to one of the other locations in the past 3 months (turns out I was right about timing, go me!). And, like, the shuffling of leadership post the LoV’s victory should have had probably negative ripple effects in the other sectors of the MLA. So. Idk. I’m quite confused about the villain’s side of things here. (Edit: and that never gets cleared up, lol. Oof, I can't believe we're already at the beginning of the war arc. It's so long!)

It's wierd how differently "anti" is used...In ffvii fandom, I see people calling others "anti-cloti" or "anti-tifa" when that just means they don't like it/see cloti as canon/have negative opinion of Tifa...

But then there's anti-endhawks for example, where it means person dislikes the ship and nobody else can like it or they're a horrible person, and anti in question is disgusted by it...like, these aren't the same thing.

Hi anon ☺️ yeah there are a few ships that I personally don’t like or follow, so I’ll bullet-point it down below!

DabiHawks - They both don’t like each other, like they’re round about the same age yes but the only interactions they have had were negative! Like Dabi tried to fry Hawks alive a few chapters ago, and Hawks has 😍 eyes for Endeavor so not really a great combo!

TogaDeku - One of the most unhealthy ships you could imagine, like Toga has an unhealthy crush on Izuku. She literally wants to cut him up or murder him, that ain’t the start of a beautiful romance or friendship 😂!

EndHawks - I have not really seen or read any EndHawks because 1) I hate endeavor so I ain’t looking for fics or oneshots or whatever with him in it 2) my main one is like Hawks is round about the same age as one of his kids, so I can’t help but dislike it! Also they’re both not on my radar of care so I don’t follow the ship at all!

The only ships I have a giant big NO-NO are Pro-hero/Teacher & student ships or worse incestious ships like Endeavor X Shouto or one of the other Todoroki kids! I have unfortunately stumbled across fics where people have shipped Shouto with his father, I never read them but like I saw the tags on AO3 listing all sorts of sexual stuff with that ship! I for the most part think people should be able to ship what they want, but I can’t help but see those sort of ships (Endeavor X Shouto, Mitsuki X Katsuki or let’s say Fatgum X Kirishima) and think...

However, for the most part I just stay away from that part of the shipping world, and stick to the ships I enjoy! Also I don’t go hating on them because I much prefer to just go 🤮 and move on!
