if i was sam i would be so mad that steve ran off to the past and i didn’t even get a fat juicy kiss before he left. imagine giving up your civilian life for danger, risking everything, becoming a fugitive, fighting aliens and all that stuff for a guy… and you don’t even get a super hot make out session with him. all you get is a new job title that you didn’t ask for where the responsibilities are way more and you don’t get any credit. and the dude you’re in love with left you to go be bigoted and senile 😭😭

friendly reminder that steve rogers was a victim of bad writing and weird self insert coming from creepy writers, he would never chose to abandon bucky and his found family, he would never chose to live in the past for no woman.

I said this in tags on another post, but it’s relevant and deserves its own post (I should be reading my usual pre- sleeping fic selection, BUT! I had this revelation -being sleepy is useful once again! -)
They NEEDED Steve to disappear, to be gone. To never care about Bucky anymore. That way they could treat Bucky as they see fit, and that means treating him like shit.
Steve would NEVER accept or allow Bucky to make amends, he would NEVER let the government take care of Bucky or be part of his “rehabilitation” in any way shape or form. That’s why he became Nomad, that’s why Bucky stayed in Wakanda. He would had fight with teeth and nails for Bucky.
“He died already more than once! He was a victim! A prisoner of war. He saved the fucking universe. What the fuck do you mean with amends!”
He became a wanted criminal for that same reason, to not let them have Bucky (nor other people in a fucking watchlist)
They needed Steves relationship with Bucky to become bitter, to be nothing more than a memory.
Steve being in retirement wouldn’t have cut it and…
Bucky was always going to follow Steve, no matter what.
So they needed him to stay alone (or with a companion that didn’t really care as much as Steve, enter Sam)
This way they killed two birds with one stone in Endgame: Reinforcing Steves “love” for Peggy, because “he’s NOT gay, you guys!”, and the partial isolation of Bucky.

And if I said that even though the fat jokes in Endgame were cheap and lazy writing it was actually kinda Real because there will always be people who react to physical manifestations of mental illness in that way. But Thor got through it anyway. And he was still worthy. And I take a little comfort in the fact that none of the OG 6 made fun of him. They were all genuinely worried. Most everyone was genuinely worried. What if I said that? People are always gonna be mean but you can be ok anyway.

Avengers... Assemble! This week, a COVID-ravaged V and hardier Emily discuss a fannish, and mainstream, event they know all too well: the release of "the most ambitious crossover event in history," Avengers: Endgame. While living in a fandom bubble can make it feel like "the audience" wants one thing, big blockbusters like Endgame remind us all too harshly that fandom is still just a bunch of weirdo outliers, and as far as studios are concerned, "the audience" wants something that is -- often -- the opposite of what fandom wants. Does the thought of Steve's ending also fill you with unbridled rage? What blockbuster movie left you with a hole in your soul?
This Week In Fandom History is a fandom-centric podcast that tells you… what happened this week in fandom history!

wait is this referring to Captain America: The Wi ter Soldier because I absolutely LOVE that film to death
Tumblr media
it IS indeed!!! my favorite marvel movie, by a long shot. score, pacing, character work, cinematography, and fight choreography combined to make an absolute banger of a film that the mcu never topped again (for me). i will never forgive the ooc retcon insanity they pulled with steve’s character in endgame and i have been known to rant for 10+ minutes straight on just that topic alone

It's not really fanon though, is it, it's more like a dark!Steve / HydraCap AU.
I mean if you wrote a fanfic where Steve Rogers willingly gave an infinity stone to:
A) a Nazi, B) who was so extreme a Nazi that they thought Adolf Hitler wasn't extreme enough, C) and is also the specific Nazi who has just murdered Natasha.
And this fanfic Steve also: - somehow knew what Hydra minions' secret signal to each other was / smirked at impersonating a Hydra agent, - did nothing about Natasha being dead even though he knows wizards who can reverse time and has all 6 magic 'can do literally anything including bringing back dead people' infinity stones, - abandoned Bucky in the future (...because being stuck alone in the future is bad when it happens to Steve, but Bucky can just choke??), - abandoned Sam (hey Sammy, thanks for the loyalty, here's a millstone, go fuck yourself), - To go and be trapped in a time Steve criticised in his movie as the 'kids are riddled with polio and all the food is boiled' era, - and marry a Nazi collaborator, whom he never even dated, - but who did violently attack him, after assuming he was a dumb bitch/male predator of women himself but still wanting to date him, - and who -- for decades -- employed and signed pay-checks to Bucky's Nazi torturer, and the guy who invented Winter Soldier mind-control - the Nazi also tortured other American POWs of Steve's father's regiment to death, tried to kill Steve once before, made the tesseract bomb Hydra wanted to drop on Steve's home city of New York, also made Project Insight (which she lied to Steve about days before said Nazi tried to kill him for the second time?) - and she made said Nazi immortal?!
And Fanfic Steve does this, even though Steve explicitly said he didn't want the white picket fence life, had always identified New York and Brooklyn as his home (not DC), such that Sam would fly to New York without prompting if Steve told him to take them 'home', and Steve also said that he couldn't just sit there and do nothing when he sees something wrong, and he's not sorry that he is this way?)
...you'd have to tag that fic like #HydraCap, #Evil-Steve, #Dark-Steve, #Skrull-Steve, #Not Steve Rogers Friendly, etc., or people would be complaining in the comments that this 'AU where Steve is a TWAT' Dark Fic wasn't properly warned for. 🤷‍♀️
just going to say that you’re not a real steve rogers stan if you think endgame made sense for his character. you prefer fanon, and that’s ok, but the real steve rogers would never go back in time rather than March forward. he would never abandon his friends. he would always choose a pickett line over a pickett fence. bc that man could retire from being captain america, but never from being steve rogers
#'steve is a nazi-sanctioning asshole' isn't fanon unless you're talking about hydra-cap.... it's an AU 🤔#I'd expect this characterisation in a fic tagged 'anti steve' 'not steve rogers friendly' or similar#these idiots at RatCorp want to cut every scene that portrays steve struggling in the future...#(because god forbid anyone other than Smallman-syndrome-having Actor get screen time right?)#...only to turn around and INSIST that steve being unhappy in the future is driving his canon story#welp sorry idiots but no it isn't. you cut those character-exploration scenes out remember??#they so desperately WANT captain america to be reducible to 'guy chasing pussy but in a god-fearing way'#and he just... is not. never has been. never will be.#not even in their cack-handed comphet-bootlicking 'verse have they succeeded at portraying this#steve spends every second of screen time that isn't somehow about bucky or hating nazis being molested by / AVOIDING dating ANY woman#this is... piss poor characterisation of a female-partner seeking person? or a Straight Guy?#imagine how angry ppl would be if Token Gay Guy spent all his arc avoiding dating men + obsessing about his beloved female 'bff' becky 👀💅#it's like they got so gay panicked by the idea of an innocent Cap n' Bucky duo like in the comics#that they wildly over-corrected and just made the gay that was barely there a thousand times worse / even more noticeable#they... they Streisand Effect-ed the gay 🤦‍♀️#nothing makes a romance less compelling than trying too hard tbh#Rat Corp: they want Captain America to be a NiceGuyPwnhound so bad it makes them look stupid#antiendgame#endgame steve is a skrull#mcu#antipeggy#antisteggy#cynthia glass#p*ggy meta#steggy is hydra trash party#meta#mcu meta#mcu critical#anti mcu#mcu salt

I've seen people try to excuse it by claiming Steve created a new timeline where he fixed everything horrible that happened in his timeline but:
you can't claim that a movie portrays something when it literally physically does not. Not only is Steve creating a new timeline not shown in the movie it's not even referenced, not even in a single throwaway line of dialogue!
(You wouldn't need to make shit up to say Steve did it to explain things if the ending had actually made sense as-shown and been in-character. Ditto showing us a Peggy who's supposed to be in her 50s but doesn't look it -- because that would highlight how fucking weird this whole thing is -- while ignoring that she's working in a "quasi-fascistic black site." Steve going cruising for GILFs in a Hydra base? It's like something out of Deadpool it's so moronic.)
Even if Steve had egotistically made a new timeline, that still doesn't address the fact that a lot of those horrible things in the original timeline happened because of Peggy, the person we're supposed to believe Steve would give a shut up ring. She hired both Zola and Fennhoff to SHIELDra -- jointly responsible for the Winter Soldier and the rise of Hydra in the 20th century. So how can Steve be 'fixing' the horrifying timeline while married to the person responsible for the horror? Is he going back to teach Peggy how to be an actual good person? To poison the wedding cake??
Even if he had made a new timeline, that still means Steve abandoned 'his' Bucky to go and protect a version of Bucky who doesn't have all of his Bucky's trauma, and marry the person responsible for it... Which is just. despicably cruel.
(And that's before you add on that it leaves Bucky alone, as the 'man out of time', the only person in the future who remembers 'their' time, which Steve's whole ending depends on us believing is a terrible thing to happen to you. But it's fine if Steve did that to Bucky...? Is it in-character for Steve to get Bucky back from the dead and then immediately ditch him in the cruelest way imaginable?)
On top of burdening Sam with a difficult legacy, with no thanks and no help for the transition, Steve's ending also means he has done nothing to bring Natasha back from the dead, despite having all six magical stones that can do anything including bringing people back from the dead. And old-Steve, in their present, also did nothing about any of his friend's problems.
On top of which, Steve's ending (returning all the Infinity Stones from the place and time they were taken) means he met with Red Skull, aka the Nazi so extreme he thought Adolf Hitler was mid, who had just murdered Natasha... and instead of fighting him, Steve gave him an Infinity Stone? (Is it in-character for Steve to quite literally empower Nazis and ignore that they murdered his personal friends?)
Since day 1, the MCU has been chipping away at Steve's decent characterisation with this subplot of 'okay yeah he's saved the world and made friends or whatever 🙄 but does it really count as happiness unless he has also attained pussy in a god-honouring way??' 🤩
And annoying as that was, it was more or less tolerable because they kept the rest of him in-character.
But that shit collapses if he isn't otherwise 90% in-character and the plot completely salts and burn every established trait just to make comphet happen.
Guys, I know it was five years ago but Steve’s ending still makes me so mad, like are you seriously going to tell me that he left to go live a life with Peggy and didnt even try to stop the pain and torture that he knew his best friend since childhood was enduring?? I can kind of get over him living with peggy, like, I get it, he’d been fighting his whole life and he just wanted some peace, and if living with peggy meant peace for him than that’s understandable, but the fact that he knew what was happening to bucky and did nothing to stop it, despite fighting tooth and nail to protect him ever since he learned he was alive, just doesn’t sit right with me

you missed that whole period during like 2020 on twitter when people was calling winteriron a toxic ship ahsjshs oh it was a funny time, especially when they said 616 winteriron didn't deserve the comparison to mcu but then in the comics it started with bucky wanting to kill tony too because of steve's death during civil war-- then after that tony helped him with the whole mind control thing and they slowly started to trust each other and became friends. the difference is that mcu never allowed them this develoment i fear...
fun fact tho in endgame they thought to film a scene between tony and bucky as a sort of closure for cacw but they never did it urgh they wanted bucky to save either tony or pepper and then he had a moment with tony where he forgives him. we were robbed!!!
PS: PEOPLE DONT FORGET TO MENTION SECRET WARS!WINTERIRON!!! the way bucky was on tony's side during civil war and was his must trusted person but then... turns out bucky was a skrull and we never know when the skrull took bucky's place rip
extremely unsurprising given how normal everyone is about tony stark in general lfhlbgkjhdflkjg i saw someone on twitter saying tony was an evil selfish villain for cacw YESTERDAY. in tWENTY TWENTY FOUR
i can't believe we were ROBBED like this we were ROBBED there should have been a tony bucky convo they should have had one. for closure. they SHOULD have been friends they WOULD have been friends if we had given any priority to character arcs and development i hate mcu they have robbed us in the night at gunpoint one thousand times....
!!!!!!!!!! god i am not built for comics.......don't make him a skrull that's so SAD.....

you know how I always say that the falcon and the winter soldier bucky isn't actually bucky to me and it's just sebastian stan with a vibranium arm? well, hear me out, bucky is in fact paying mcu sebastian stan to pretend to be him while bucky ran away with steve to a deserted island away from everyone and everything, and the skrulls took advantage of the situation and one of them pretended to be steve in endgame as we already agreed on lolol

Why Steve Rogers and Sharon Carter are perfect for each other*
*With caveats: 1) a large portion of Sharon's personality and backstory I'll reference are my own creation, because the MCU keeps on forgetting she exists; 2) F&WS!Sharon is not the real Sharon but is a Skrull or comes from another dimension or something; and 3) the Steve who dances with Peggy at the end of Endgame is not the Steve I'm talking about. If any of this is confusing, please feel free to ask!
For starters, they're clearly attracted to each other, and it seems obvious they're interested in pursuing their relationship, which is more than I can say for some people that get shipped with Steve.
While attracted to each other, they don't let that get in the way of doing their job or fulfilling their responsibilities.
They have the same/similar sense of morals/justice (noticing something fishy about S.H.I.E.L.D. and standing up against it; breaking the law to save an innocent man's life).
The kind of person Steve needs in a partner (romantic or otherwise) is someone with compassion who will also challenge him when needed and not just crumble when the going gets tough. Sharon is usually gentle and kind, but she also doesn't take any crap and isn't afraid to speak up when it's necessary.
Steve has a tendency to not ask for help and try to do everything himself, because there have been so many times when there was no one to turn to, or he felt he had to prove he could do it when no one said he could. But Sharon doesn't wait to be asked for help. If she sees something that needs to be done, she takes the initiative and dives right in. That will be so important to their relationship, because Sharon won't let Steve do everything alone.
Steve's love language is Acts of Service, and Sharon has always struck me as the kind of person who would step up and help out as soon as she sees a need. Sharon's love language is Words of Affirmation, and Steve is surprisingly good at finding the right words to say to both inspire, and make someone feel good about themselves.
Sharon always interacts with Steve as Steve first, Captain America second. She doesn't fawn over him or expect him to be perfect, she doesn't pat herself on the back for managing to catch the eye of the world's first superhero. She just sees him for what he is: a man. That's got to be pretty rare for Steve, and would make her even more attractive to him.
What Sharon needs most in a partner is someone she can trust. Someone she can let her guard down around, who will be honest with her so they don't have to play guessing games. And Steve is as honest as they come. He's bad at lying, and he's always just himself around her, so any problems that arise are out in the open and they can work through them together.
Steve's first love was Peggy, and Sharon was really close to Peggy. Not only would she have heard lots of stories of what Steve is like, but she also would have been influenced by Peggy. Peggy is one of Sharon's most important role models, so the person that she wants to become (and is already well on her way to becoming) is exactly the sort of person Steve is looking for in the first place. No, they're not the same, and I don't think Steve would ever expect her to be. But the strength and kindness he admired in Peggy is also present in Sharon.
Steve and Sharon are both the kind of people who, once they make a commitment to someone, will not abandon them. This is perhaps the most important thing for a couple, because at the end of the day, no matter how compatible you are, no matter how "in love" you are or how much "chemistry" you have, what matters when the rubber meets the road is commitment. And Steve and Sharon are the kind of people who will put in the effort to make it work even when it's hard, even when other things change. Even when they both grow old and ugly and weak, they will be there for each other.
