Living in a world where most people have a BMI higher than the cultural norm and where many people fear gaining weight or getting fat sets us up to be discontent and find a plan to "fix" our bodies. .. For many people this may mean developing an eating disorder or disordered eating while pursuing the fix. Maybe if our culture was not so afraid of having a larger body, and we all were able to enjoy life in a variety of body sizes, eating disorders wouldn't be so prevalent. .. Maybe if we didn't connect weight to health, we would no longer make judgements based on sight to predict health, intelligence, and worth. Maybe if didn't have a war on obesity, food peace would be our cultural norm. .. If we ended fatphobia, there would be no need for the multi-billion dollar diet industry. Imagine how we could spend those billions instead. .. For the first time in possibly my entire life, I am over winter! 😂 I blame it on all of the fun I had at the pool last summer 🤷🏼‍♀️. Fun that was due in large part to my not giving a hoot about anyone else’s thoughts or opinions and rocking swimsuits all summer long 🎉 I used to secretly hate summer because I hated my body & summer meant not being able to hide it under layers of clothes. Y’all I didn’t even own shorts! I look back now & wonder how I even survived summer AND wish I had made the decision to embrace my body years earlier. If any of this sounds familiar to you, know that you’re not alone in your struggle but you also don’t have to stay in it! Not one single bad thing happened to me at a pool last summer. This week’s #wcw is @tessholliday. She is unapologetically herself. She isn’t killing herself to lose weight. She is owning her body as HERS. She isn’t kowtowing to @thepiersmorgan or anyone else saying she’s promoting obesity and encouraging young people to make themselves unhealthily fat. She is accepting that living a full, regular life and taking care of her body results in a size that is over 20.
