as someone who hyperfixated on snakes for a bit, tell me about lizards :3
Heres some cool pet reptiles:
The emerald tree skink, i think the absolute most wonderful pet lizard ever. They are so friendly and you keep them in groups and a large interactive tank with loads of hiding spots and foliage. The most amazing part of them is how friendly and curious they are, seemingly by nature! They're known to run up to the doors of their tank whenever they see a human, and they love to climb onto arms and legs. They're rather small and very fast which is something that'd be a bad and scary thing (reptiles can be quite fragile), but if they're happy enough, they'll literslly just come back to you if they get lost. From what ive heard they just have a crazy interest with humans!
And- speaking of small lizards, the mourning geckos!! They're so so so good omg. They're TINY, all of them look exactly the same, like actually exactly identical. Why? They're all clones of eachother! All of them are the exact same female, copypasted a billion times. They reproduce asexually, they can impregnate their own eggs (actually theres a lot of animals, even mammals that can do this exact thing when in need, but it happens very rarely and its hard to study and observe). They need another member of their species to hang out with them for the eggs to get fertilized tho. Lesbian ace geckos! They also make very good pets if you like to observe. They eat fruit flies and i think also, like, standard gecko slop but idk.
And if tiny isn't your thing, you can look on the opposite spectrum of pet lizards. The argentine tegu is a HUGE lizard with a very gentle personality. If taken good care of and taught good manners, they make very smart and friendly pets. I am not sure if they drop their tail, but if they do its barely visible where they regrow it, theyre patient and can chill, like lazy scale puppies. Big fan of them, if i didnt have severe adhd and a small budget, I'd have one! I'd need a whole room of an enclosure tho :)

DoD Headshots
Reasons and fun facts about their designs:
Clay - Semi-based off of Ankole-Wastusi. Loves to cook and I frente goes to the Mud Kingdom to get ingredients.
Tsunami - Based off of Tiger sharks. Her scars will heal but very slowly because Seawing scales are very special compared to other tribes and thus take longer to grow back.
Glory - Loosely based off of Emerald Boas. Her scales were much more darker and dull in the caves so this is when she made it back to the Rain Kingdom
Starflight - Based off of Black Myotis Bats and needs glasses to help his farsightedness.
Sunny - Based on Leopard Geckos and Desert Long-Eared Bats. Seems more Sandwing because of her mom being a Sandwing.

MISC:
Grains and agriculture: Demeter is associated with grains and agriculture because she is the goddess of the harvest and fertility. In ancient Greece, she was venerated as the goddess who brought about the bounty of the harvest and ensured that the crops grew and provided sustenance for the people. She was also associated with the cycle of the seasons and the changing of the growing seasons, ensuring that the fields remained fertile and plentiful. Demeter was often depicted holding a sheaf of wheat or a torch, representing her role in the cultivation and care of the grain crops.
Torches: in ancient Greek culture, torches were used to symbolize purification and ritual offerings. Demeter, as the goddess of agriculture and harvest, was often depicted holding a torch as a symbol of her power to nurture and support the growth of crops. The use of torches in her imagery also reflected her connection with the sun and the natural rhythms of the seasons, which she was believed to control. In addition, torches were also associated with rituals of illumination and protection, further emphasizing Demeter's role as a protective and nurturing deity.
The Underworld: her connection to the Underworld is closely tied to her daughter, Persephone. In the Greek myth, Hades, the god of the Underworld, abducted Persephone and took her down to the Underworld to be his wife and queen. Demeter, heartbroken by her daughter's abduction, searched for her and refused to bring about the renewal of the seasons on Earth until Persephone was returned to her. In some versions of the myth, Demeter ultimately reached a compromise with Hades, allowing Persephone to spend part of the year with her mother on Earth and part of the year with her husband in the Underworld.
Grape vine: Demeter is associated with grape vines and the harvest of grapes because they are a symbol of fertility and abundance. In ancient Greece, the cultivation of grapes and wine-making were a significant part of the agricultural process, and Demeter was revered as a goddess of the harvest and the fertility of the land. The grapevine was also seen as a symbol of transformation, as the grapes undergo a process of fermentation to become wine, symbolizing the transformative power of nature and the cycle of life and death. As the goddess of the harvest and seasonality, Demeter was closely associated with the growth and cultivation of grape vines.
Turtle dove: she is associated with the turtle dove due to its close connection with fertility and motherhood. In ancient Greece, the turtle dove was seen as a symbol of fertility and a harbinger of spring, as it would return to its nesting grounds during the warmer months, when the vegetation grew and the weather became more conducive to planting and growth. This symbolized the power of Demeter to bring about the fertility of the land and the regrowth of the natural world during the spring and summer months. Additionally, the turtle dove was also seen as a symbol of peace and purity, which were important values in ancient Greek culture.
Motherhood: the association of Demeter with motherhood and fertility stems from her role as the goddess of agriculture and the harvest. As the goddess responsible for the abundance and growth of the land, Demeter was believed to possess the powers of fertility and nourishment. Her ability to ensure a bountiful harvest and the growth of the plants and crops was seen as a symbol of her nurturing and caring nature, similar to a mother caring for her children. This connection to motherhood and fertility is also reflected in her role as the mother of Persephone, the daughter that she searches for and protects.
FACTS ABOUT DEMETER:
The Romans associated Demeter with Ceres.
Demeter was often depicted traveling in a golden chariot drawn by horses or dragons.
When approached with genuine respect and an understanding of her nature, Demeter is incredibly generous. In rituals and spells, invoking Demeter for her blessings in growth, nurturing, and sustenance typically yields positive and enriching results.
The Greeks celebrated Demeter with many festivals and celebrations throughout the year, usually in the fall around harvest time.
Demeter was also a chthonic deity, meaning she had connections to the Underworld.
She has the ability to transform things into plants, and the ability to manipulate plants, and the Earth and Weather Manipulation; the power to control the weather in a wide range of distances. She can create or summon clear sky, rain, hail, snow, thunderstorms, tornadoes, hurricanes, etc. It can be offensively, or can be a cycle of life for everyday human beings given that she once covered the earth in ice and snow.
Demeter was swallowed upon her birth, like all her siblings, and was saved by the craftiness of her mother Rhea and her brother Zeus.
HOW TO INVOKE DEMETER:
To invoke Demeter, you can begin by finding a quiet and peaceful space where you can focus your attention on connecting with her. Light a white or green candle to represent the purifying and fertile energy of the Earth. You can also use herbs or flowers associated with Demeter, such as wheat, barley, or white lilies, to create an altar or sacred space. Sit and centre yourself. Take slow and deep breaths, and when you feel ready, call upon Demeter to join you in the space. You can use her name, "Demeter," or ask for her guidance and support.
PRAYER FOR DEMETER:
Divine Demeter, Great Mother of the Harvest, Giver of life and the bounties of the earth, I stand before you with reverence and awe, Honouring your endless cycle of growth and rebirth.
In your sacred fields, the grains rise and bow, Under your watchful eye, all life flourishes. Oh, nurturing goddess, hear my humble vow, To cherish the earth, and its gifts to nourish.
Bless these fields, these gardens, with your touch, Let them yield their abundance in your name. May my hands be an extension of your love, Sowing seeds of hope, free from pain and blame.
As the seasons turn, from spring to winter’s chill, Guide me through the cycles of loss and gain. In the depths of sorrow, let your wisdom be my will, In joyous harvest, let your laughter reign.
Demeter, Great Mother, in your grace I seek, Strength to protect, and wisdom to feed the soul. Through each day, each night, each week, Guide me towards the ultimate, harmonious goal.
In gratitude, I offer you these humble gifts, Fruits of the earth, and labours of my hands. May they be pleasing in your celestial midst, Symbols of the bond that between us stands.

My first Pokemon game was Leaf Green. So when I got Emerald a year or so later I initially assumed that the box art pokemon were also evolutions of the starter pokemon like in FRLG, I mean their colors even matched. I could reasonably imagine how a chick could evolve into a giant dinosaur, or how a little gecko could become a giant snake dragon, but I was very confused how the weird salamander thing could possibly become a whale

Ticks reptile Lingo cheatsheet
New to the herping world? See a lot of Acronyms being tossed around and have no idea what people are talking about? I get it! It can be a little overwhelming to learn all the Lingo at first, and I admit I use it too and don't think about how that can alienate newcomers. So here's a guide to some of the more commonly used Lingo in the reptile world! These aren't all the words you'll see, but these are likely the ones you're most likely to see commonly used in reptile spaces in general: WC - Wild caught, can be local or Imported CB - Captive Born, can be born from a pregnant WC Female or less commonly, egg harvested. CBB - Captive Bred Born, Animal was born in Captivity from a Captive pairing. CHE - Ceramic heat emitter, good for raising ambient temps, doesn't make a good basking lamp. Hologen - A type of heating bulb, considered the more ideal bulb used for basking. DHP - Deep Heat Projector, you'll see this term thrown around when people are discussing Wavelengths of bulbs usually. UVB - Ultraviolet (b), a type of ray emitted from the sun. A lot of lizards, such as bearded dragons for example, *require* UVB lights. Certain animals need UVB to remain healthy, and a lack of UVB can cause a large variation of irreversible health issues. MBD - Metabolic Bone Disease. Most common in animals like Bearded Dragons and Leopard geckos, also extremely prominent in many other lizard species. Usually caused by a lack of or improper UVB. BCI - Boa Constrictor Imperator. Most common species of Boa on the market, can be commonly found with a variation of different morphs. BCC - Boa Constrictor Constrictor, Absolute beasts of a Boa. It is extremely common to see BCIs called BCCs, these animals are not the same. BCL - Boa Constrictor Longicauda BCO - Argentine Boa. Argentine Boas look nothing like the other BCs on this list, you won't really see these guys being mixed up with the other listed Boas. GTP - Green Tree Python ETB - Emerald Tree Boa F/T - Frozen/Thawed Prey Freshkill - Different from F/T. Freshkill is usually purchased as live prey and killed or incapacitated directly before feeding. AWM - Asian Water Monitor SP - Usually a stand-in acronym for the word "Species". Local - In reference to the locality of an animal. For example, Leachianus Geckos(Often just called Leachies), have a few different Localities that grow to different sizes and can even have different color variations depending on said localities. QT- Quarantine. You'll see this usually in reference to people obtaining new animals, regardless if theyre CB/CBB/WC. But especially will see this word with Imports. A lot of Reptiles- Especially Snakes, can carry hidden diseases that can wipe out entire collections and breeding facilities, it is always advised to QT your animal for at minimum 2 weeks-1 month before introducing them into a collection. Some breeders or importers with Established animals may choose to QT for a longer period of time, this is normal. Established - WC Animal who's been in captivity for an extended period of time, usually upwards of a year. Established animals aren't exhibiting signs of crashing or failure to thrive, may actively be breeding, and are eating well. The majority of Established animals have been seen by a vet, or have been treated for parasites- always ask about treatment regardless if you're asking about an established animal.
