I still have 0 interest in actually watching cross ange but it featuring in super robot wars has been pretty consistently great. The world gets integrated pretty well and adds a lot of fun stuff (dragons, mainly), ange is fun, her robot is cool, and Embryo is a 10/10 rpg villain for being so despicable that you really genuinely want to kick the shit out of him. Every scene where embryo gets dunked on for being a creep or just gets beat to hell is delicious

Currently at Scenario 44(Doakdar Assault Route) in Super Robot Wars X.

Good things in this scenario: I get to beat up 19 copies of Cross Ange’s creepy villain Embryo, and they only have 10,000 HP. 

Bad things: They can ALL attack twice.

I had to restart this one because I accidentally left the N-Nautilus in range of enough of them for it to be taken down quickly(if a battleship is taken out, it’s game over). At least unlike a similar Scenario in SRW V, I don’t have to beat all of them, three in that battle, in one turn otherwise they’d all fully heal AND revive(I’m never doing the Normal End path again because of that).

So the English version of Super Robot Wars X is pretty damn silky smooth if YouTube videos are any indication, perhaps even moreso than that of V.  Even watching some similar events thanks to returning series (notably, Ange’s ripping apart of Embryo at the final battle scenario of Cross Ange), there seem to be some notable script changes despite the moment effectively reusing Ange’s voiced line there.  There may be a reason why this all is:

Supposedly, Banpresto managed to reach out to translation group Aeon Genesis and bring onboard one miss Christina Rose to help out.  Evidently, she was part of the team that worked on a fan translation of SRW Alpha Gaiden, which is in a playable start-to-finish beta state (a very well polished beta, albeit).  I’m looking into this to see how much of this is true, but if it all is, then damn... why can’t we get this shit in the states?

We finally get some face-to-face time with Embryo, the main villain of the series, who almost singlehandedly made the last two episodes some of the most uncomfortable to watch so far - other episodes have scored higher but few have felt as slimy as whenever this dude’s creeping it up on screen. Imagine the kind of person who runs one those infamous blogs that alternates between obnoxious anti-SJW content and black and white hardcore porn gifs and probably has a red and black theme, and then cross that with a person who unironically says “m’lady” and aspires to be “classy” - Embryo is that guy. If the writers wanted me to hate this guy, they went above and beyond in accomplishing that.

Otherwise, the plot has got over the big exposition hump and has managed to find its focus again. Honestly, as creepy as Embryo is, I can’t say he’s a poorly written character. The scenario of godlike power being given to a person who pretends to be benign but shows his true colours as a human cockroach is interesting even though it leads to even more uncomfortable sexual content.

I’m struggling a little with what to make of this series, because I feel like it’s a real Jekyll and Hyde sort of show - it manages a pretty high level of quality in more areas than I was expecting, but the skeeviness just can’t be denied. It’s pervasive in almost every episode. I get a feeling that these last few episodes and especially the ending will help make up my mind one way or another.
