Handmade Embroidered Clothing by Nöl Collective
Nol collective collaborates with family owned businesses to create intentionally made, slow-fashion clothing worked from traditional handwoven Majdalawi fabric and traditional crafts such as tatreez (hand embroidery) and natural dyes from local plants, insects and roots.
"The political reality for Palestinians is shaped by the military occupation which touches and shapes every element of our lives, including creativity. Isolated from one another geographically most of the artisans we are working with have never met and even need to work together digitally to bring garments to life, representing a creative endeavor which has triumphed over imposed borders."

you know. just like with specific terms and nicknames like clanker or shinie, clones must've come up with unique meanings for their armor paint. like with different meanings assigned to colors of mandalorian armor except since the choice of color is out of their control, all the importance lies in shapes and placement
#this is obviously based on fanon as well as personal speculation but knowing that clones are such a tight-knit society#plus knowing the circumstances of their “upbringing” it wouldn't be surprising#there must be a code to everything#if we take into the account the idea of clones developing their own dialect together with incorporating combat sign language into it#i just think for clones everything matters. the words they use the body language their ranks etc and that everything would include paintjob#so like that would mean that there are specific ways you could paint ur armor that have their own meaning#like with some types of traditional embroidery or other textile arts#like an outsider would look at a clone in full armor and see a collection of geometric shapes and simple designs#but another clone would see so much more#clones could incorporate some personal designs together with more well known “universal” symbols#a stripe across the pauldron for luck. another stripe down the chestplate to signify bravery on the battlefield so on so forth#doylist: they didn't want to make adjustments to their clone models and used copy and paste#watsonian: a group of clones would collectively decide on armor pattern that would best represent their battalion#star wars

Kathrin Marchenko - Embroidery Artist
Kathrin Marchenko, from Lozivskyi, Ukraine, is an embroidery artist who uses ropes, threads, and laces to create incredible works of art. Marchenko creates three-dimensional embroideries on frames and walls depicting animals, portraits, and anatomical parts of the body such as eyes and hands.
The artist does not use preparatory drawings but relies on the inspiration and creativity of the moment. "Embroidery is a meditative process that helps me calm down and gather all my thoughts," stated Marchenko, who uses various materials in her works, including multiple types of threads, fabrics, needles, hoops, beads, ceramic pieces, and other objects inspired by the moment.
The artist also organizes online courses in meditative embroidery using modern embroidery stitches to develop creative skills. "The art of embroidery is not easy, but once you get used to improvising with threads and matching their color shades, you can create anything in just a few steps," the artist states on her official website. The purpose of meditative embroidery is to broaden horizons and see embroidery from a new perspective.
The courses are accessible to both experienced embroidery professionals and beginners who want to develop their creative skills by creating impressive works with low-cost materials.

had some very interesting experiences with men and fiber crafts today.
at lunch i was embroidering some cute flowers on a pair of jorts and a male friend of mine came over and was like "omg u can knit??!" and i was like. "uhm. no. i can embroider tho." (i didnt know how to knit at the time)
then later, once a friend had taught me how to knit for the play were doing, my male teacher saw me knitting away and was like "oh! u were sewing while getting your hair done? awesome!" (were figuring out hairstyles for the play and are time crunching) and again i was just like. "erm no i was knitting." my teacher was like "its a gender thing. us guys cant tell the difference" (he was joking. probably.)
then when i was telling these stories to my mom after school, my dad yelled from the basement that he knew how to knit. later, when i was ranting abt how different the crafts are, but how i could understand some being mixed up, he was indignant. so its not a gender thing.
anyways i perhaps could understand crocheting and knitting being mixed up. and maybe embroidery and sewing if u really know nothing. but both these guys got a yarn craft and a thread craft swapped 😭
#rain's brain#anyways i can now sew embroider knit and crochet.#im collecting them like thanos collecting infinity stones#fiber crafts#knitting#embroidery

Suit
Fabric c.1725-1750
This man’s suit, comprising a coat, waistcoat and breeches, was acquired in Paris. It appears to have been made from an embroidered furnishing fabric, possibly a bed hanging, dating to the second quarter of the 18th Century, that has been turned into a theatrical or fancy dress outfit approximating the mid 18th Century in style. The bright yellow satin has been intricately pieced together, particularly on the waistcoat that, of the three garments, is the least authentic in cut. The sprays of large flowers tied together with ribbon bows, embroidered in couched chenille thread, have either been cut from the original fabric and stitched down or left in situ on the satin. A scattering of metal spangles is most dense on the front of the waistcoat, and the 18th Century metallic lace borders incorporate both very narrow strips of silver thread and metal thread wrapped around a silk core.

Thinking of how Jien collects things that remind her of her home during her missions and simple outings, sometimes it can range from one item, a simple souvenirs, but other times it is bags worth of items and she sends them all to her house on the Xianzhou, essentially hoarding all the little things in which she finds a sense of belonging. Her collection grows every time she goes somewhere. It makes me sad.
#-stories of old#oc ramble#oc#hsr oc#she has a vidyadharan friend that takes care of her home while she is away on missions and she receives all these packages so they're not#damaged#and when Jien returns its this more traditional looking home full of souvenirs and rocks and paintings and embroidery pieces#carpets made by hand with thick wool or thread with flower motifs or tigers or lions#there's children's toys in one room#still in their bags#it's a little museum of memories she's trying to scrape by from this world and freeze time#she often sits in silence or soft tunes as she soaks in all these things she collected#she doesn't move them much either#she keeps them all in one place and its all organized - she could find these places if she was blind or in the dark#:((#honkai star rail
