I love that Eddie is a craft guy! It just makes so much sense. Do you think he's one of those people who is CONSTANTLY doing a new craft and their house is just littered with Eddie's crafts, and he's always making little hand made gifts for Steve, the party and the band? I can totally imagine Steve coming home and the house just being in total disarray and Eddie's just like "I made a bird table and i personalised all your coffee cups :))"
Eddie Munson and the ADHD urge to start a new project before you finished the last one.
Despite Eddie’s big personality and the joy he gets galivanting across cafeteria tables and award show stages, he is very much a homebody. His favorite places growing up was his bedroom, Gareth’s garage, and the drama room where he hosted D&D. Then he went on tour and when the shows were over, he just wanted to be home.
He liked being able to strip away the Eddie Munson persona, sit down, and channel all the ideas in his head into a creative output.
Honestly, making money just made it worse. He can afford shit now.
Steve’s the opposite though.
Steve likes to be out of the house. He was a kid that lived in a big house with parents that never wanted to see or hear him, sometimes year-round sports were the only thing keeping him sane. Once Eddie made it big and was touring, Steve was once again alone in a big empty house and so he found things to do.
He meets up with Robin at least once a week to get dinner and drinks, and sometimes they go dancing or they sing karaoke. Him and Dustin meet up semi-regularly to catch up. He was a part of their neighborhood walking group before Diane annoyed him out of it. He goes bowling with some teachers from work occasionally and takes a pottery class that he sucks at. Him and Max are a part of a trivia team that has only ever succeeded at being the drunkest team in the game.
So, the combination of ‘Steve is 90% of my impulse control and he’s not here right now’ and ‘If I don’t create something, I will die’ means that sometimes Steve comes home to a new windchime or a questionably made bird house.
Sometimes he comes home to Eddie embroidering one of his jackets by hand even though he bought an embroidery machine that he has never used. Other times, he comes home and Eddie has carved every bar of soap they had into a little fucked-up guy or he found a recorder and wants to play Steve a song.
Or sometimes, Steve returns home from the cooking class he’s taking at their local community center to beads. Beads everywhere.
Beads in the carpet. Beads on the hardwood. Beads in their shoes by the stairs. Beads everywhere.
Steve – who is pretty Type-A about their house being clean and organized because he has a shit memory and needs to be able to find things – very calmly sits aside the ravioli that he made and says, “Eddie, what the fuck?”
“I dropped them.”
Steve makes a gesture like ‘yeah, no shit’ and then just makes a distressed noise, but Eddie waves him off as he dumps a handful of beads into the good punch bowl that they use for parties, “Don’t blame me. Your cat tripped me. I nearly brained myself.”
“She’s only my cat when she’s bad,” Steve sighs, sitting down to help pick the beads up. “Why do you have beads anyways? Since when do we have beads?”
“Do you remember those beaded lizard keychains?” Eddie asks, and then when all he got was silence. “I’m going to make you one…after we pick up two thousand pony beads.”
Steve makes another noise that’s somewhere between ‘you’re causing me actual pain’ and ‘I love you so much it makes me stupid’ and Eddie grins at him. He gestures to the punch bowl and says, “Stevie, think about it. Once we fill this bad boy up, we can separate the beads by color. That’ll be fun, right?”
“…Yeah, I’d actually really like that.”

Happy invention of the Caeser salad day and also the 4th of July. Today was a pretty good but very sweaty day. The humidity would be pretty oppressive. But I am sitting on the water downtown waiting to the fireworks now. I feel happy. I am really glad I decided to come back home to be here. It's been so fun people watching.
Camp was good too! It was just really humid. I tried my best to not focus on it but I felt gross being so damp. Which also made the bugs bother me so bad. But I tried to remain positive.
Last night after my post Callie would come back to the cabin and we would have some laughs and some conversation. Her new boy called and I tried to not be a part of the convo but I did at times and it was real silly. Also a mouse was running around the rafters and we were screaming and it was so silly.
I fell asleep pretty easy. I would get woke up a few times because I was uncomfortable and was tossing and turning. Waking up wasn't horrible when my alarm went off but I wasn't thrilled. I would take forever to get washed up and dressed. I was trying to do to many things and would keep getting off track but it was fine. And pretty soon I was walking to the art building.
It was shocking how humid it was. Walking up there I was huffing and puffing and struggling to breath the heavy air. It was not comfortable. I thought I was going to pass out. I just wanted to sit down so bad.
But I pushed through and would put my laundry bag and changes of clothes I had carried up from the cabin, in the car. And would get my yogurt and sit in the back having my little breakfast and drinking water.
Aaron would come over to get paper. We chatted about the fixing of the chicken enclosure. He had a plan. I encouraged him to get the kids involved. I hope he figured out a way to do that.
Two other people had mornings with no groups. Jamie would go help Aaron and Avery would come and hang at art and embroider. It was a nice morning.
My morning groups were great. Silver City was mainly really good but one girl was so anxious it was crazy. She kept saying that she couldn't do it, it being putting beads on string. It took me forever but I was able to get her to work with me and she finished her lizard. Everyone did.
I really enjoyed my girl groups. The second group needed way less help but they were good girls. They wanted to keep working though when their hour was up. So I told Mariana (it was her group) she could be in charge of the building and I would go to lunch.
Lunch was fine. I jokingly bullied the SSCs to give me extra tator tots. But they were all silly. I also had babies David this morning and let him sleep in my hammock for almost two hours. He isn't feeling well. I also would fix one of the other boys necklaces. I was happy to help.
After hanging out with specialty staff for a bit I would go and work on some bead lizards I was giving as gifts to some in of the new boy staff that has been so nice to me. They were playing bullying each other about how got lizards so I made them for all of them. They were impressed at how fast I did it.
While I was working on them though my day camp group came 25 minutes early! And I was just like. Take them somewhere else. He was real confused. I don't think he has a watch. They would go play Gaga. I finished my lizards and got a cup of ice from the lodge.
They would come back soon after I got back up there. And I was shocked to find that the group only had 4 kids!
They were great kids. We would be really shocked and worked on our lizards and I was able to sew because it was so chill. It was a really nice hour.
Once they left my little day camp 3s came. Sarah was with them and making lizards with them was a bit chaotic but Sarah and the YLP with her did a great job helping to make snakes ans lizards and not everyone made one but everyone left with something and it was little crazy at times but they cleaned up and soon were off.
My last group of the day was the younger stockade boys. It shocking how much shorter they are. But they were also good boys. They would sue all of my coins for pendants though. Oops. I will have to have them order me more. But we did that and some made bracelets. And I made Randle and Jeci learn to make bead lizards and it was fun to sit and talk with them. Merrill would join us to send it was a good time. Even if it was crazy got. Jeci would tell us how they would keep pet spiders when he grew up in the Philippines and they would fight them?? Wild.
They helped me clean up and put things away. And after I made myself a drink for the road with the last of my ice, I headed home.
There was no traffic. And I got home in a half hour. It was pretty great. My phone still isn't connecting my the car but I ordered a phone mount so that should be here soon.
When I got home I was shocked at how hot it was. Shockingly hot.
I brought my stuff inside and was very happy to see Sweetp. Crabcake was motoring around his enclosure. I would pretty quickly go outside to water all the plants and added water to the tortoise bowl. And would bring him outside for some warmth and sun. Sweetp would come out to buy it was crazy hot in the sun so I wss like. Dude stay in the shade. And he did but I did not want to be out there at all.
I would go and take a cool shower. I washed my hair and scrubbed away all the grossness I felt. And when I was done I would go hang out on the floor of the bedroom for almost an hour. Just staying cool. But eventually I would get dressed again. And got James's shorts they asked me to bring them. And headed out.
I drove to Wawa to get a sandwich. I asked James if they would like me to bring them dinner but the musuem bought them all pizza so they were good. I went and got my sandwich and was very excited about it.
I drove to the museum next. My plan was to find a parking space in the neighborhood and walk to the museum. And I was nervous but I would find a spot across from McDonald's on the street. It wasn't even a long walk.
I was really excited that my camp chair was in the back of the car when I thought I had forgotten it at home. I would grab that and a tote bag to carry my food and James's shorts and all my teddy bears to sew. And walked to the museum.
I was excited to see people. And also was excited to see all my friends. And to see how many cars we're waiting to go in.
I would go to the pedestrian entrance and joked that I had no weapons or drugs. And saw James walking across the parking lot. They were incredibly busy but I would get them for a moment. The museum is open until 9 so they had a busy busy evening.
I would help make a sign inside. But orettnsoo I moved outside to set up a spot.
I set up right in front of the dog statue. Stanley said I did a great job picking and I should have an excellent view.
The rain was coming in though. He offered to get me an umbrella and I'm so glad I took him up on that.
I ate half my sandwich while I waited for him to come back. And when he did he had two umbrellas. I would give the family next to me one of them and I'm so glad be came whe he did because the sky opened up. And everyone ran into the pavilion. But not me. I had the umbrella between my legs and was perfectly dry. I would just work on my sewing and enjoy watching the water.
It wouldn't rain for long. 20 minutes. And eventually people started coming back to their chairs. There is a lot of people here! Stanley says that the inside of the museum is also crazy packed. I hope that is making James happy.
It's almost 9 now. And James will come out soon ish and fireworks will start soon after that. And I am very excited to be down here. It's literally been years since I've seen 4th of July fireworks with my husband and I am very excited. I can already see some small ones in the distance.
I will post this after the fireworks. Tomorrow is the last day of the first session of camp! I hope it's not so hot. I love you all. Good night!!

Tumblr media
Last but definitely not least, we got a Gucci Spring/Summer 2019 look! This is the nautical-inspired long-sleeved A-line midi dress with collar in contrasting blue & red, and buttoned front.
Tumblr media
Slim-silhouetted eyewear was a huge trend back in 2018/19 and these Poppy Lissiman Le Skinny clear cat-eye glasses definitely fit the bill!
Tumblr media
Bvlgari created her snake head-shaped Serpenti earrings in 18k white-gold, set with emerald eyes and full pavé diamonds.

As you might have guessed by now, they’re also behind her Serpenti Viper 18k white-gold ring set with pavé diamonds.

Philippine Contemporary Arts: The Tapis of Kalinga Tribe
Weaving has been one of our country’s interesting crafts. It weighed with an immense cultural significance, a mark of being a Filipino. Something that should be proud of, a product that should be flexed. But as years went by and generations trodded the earth, there are some parts of our culture that seemed to be forgotten especially hand weaving. With the rise of modern technology and industrialization, culture and tradition was disregarded.
Therefore, it is important to have a glimpse of one of the country’s primiere hand-weaving textile, the Tapis of Kalinga.
The mountainous region of Central Cordillera in northern Luzon is home to a large number of indigenous communities. Their fierce self-determination and geographic isolation provided relative protection from the cultural influences of Spanish colonisation. However, their art did not remain unchanged. Communities retained forms which were useful and meaningful, abandoned others and created new forms to meet new purposes – a tradition that has continued into 21st century.
The province of Kalinga is one of the many places in the Philippines where the practice of traditional backstrap loom weaving not only survives but thrives. Weaving has always been a part of the community’s daily activities. The Kalinga weavers produce handwoven fabrics for a variety of uses, from traditional cloth for clothing and ritual use to commercial fabrics intended for making household decor, souvenirs, bags, and accessories.
Kalinga weaves are characterized by the traditional color combinations of red and black stripes and the use of beads. Many traditional Kalinga weaving designs and patterns remain unchanged through generations, with weavers taking care not to make alterations since the colors and details have specific meanings. Red, for instance, symbolizes bravery while black represents the earth or the ground. Mountain symbols are embroidered in yellow, a color that also symbolizes wealth and fertility.
The patterns used are mostly traditional ones, typically nature-inspired and beliefs-based. The bayawak pattern, for example, is based on an eponymous giant lizard said to be one of the gods who came down to earth to teach natives water irrigation. On the other hand, the phyton symbol is placed on borders of weaving textiles, inspired by a god who came down to Ifugao in the form of a snake to guard boundaries. A dividing line, in forests or rice fields, for example, is considered sacred among the Ifugaos because land is very precious to them. In addition, the star symbol represents abundance, multitude, and fertility.
Today, Kiangan weavers make use of contemporary designs and patterns based on their own likings which are less intricate. “We usually ask our granddaughters to find for designs online so we can make them,” says Benita Balangto, an Ifugao Master Weaver.
They started incorporating new designs and color combinations in their fabrics while staying true to their Kalinga identity. From these fabrics, they make handwoven clothing that anyone can wear every day, such as blouses and jackets. They also make home decor and accessories such as table runners, placemats, bags, and purses, among others. These innovations in design enable the Kalinga to share their cultural heritage with more people while also allowing them to preserve their sacred weaving tradition for many generations to come.

What should I add to my embroidery jacket? I am absolutely taking suggestions, so far the only things I have planned are a birch tree, a katydid, and maybe a little cauldron with potion in it (I saw some halloween embroidery) I've kind of given up the idea of having a cohesive overall plan and am just adding stuff and trusting that, since I am the one making it and choosing colors I like, it'll look fine together in the end Also I very briefly thought about embroidering a tiny bead lizard onto the jacket but I think that would make it not washable :/ edit: oh my gosh I could just embroider the beads instead of using real beads!!!! absolutely adding a tiny bead lizard now

Some articles about Filipino Weaving
https://narrastudio.com/blogs/journal/the-weaving-of-kalinga
- The design motifs and symbols are inspired from elements in the environment, such as birds and other animals, mountains, and stars.
- Red, for instance, symbolizes bravery while black represents the earth or the ground. Mountain symbols are embroidered in yellow, a color that also symbolizes wealth and fertility.
https://ph.asiatatler.com/life/the-untold-sacred-weaving-of-ifugaos
- Ifugaos and Kalingan people consider weaving sacred
- designs are based off of nature
- appearance of chicken bile or pig butchering by mumbaki helps determine the success of the weaving activity. Performing ritual blesses the cotton and physical condition of the weaver
- weaving is forbidden when a relative dies, unlucky
- bayawak pattern and phyton borders
- star symbol represents abundance and fertility
https://www.slideshare.net/elmerllames/weaving-cordillera-and-region-1-24044317
- ikat  style: diamond shapes with red and white stripes. Dyeing process is similar to tye dye where the warp and weft are dyed before being weaved together, resulting in a blurred motif due to the bleeding of the dyes on the resist areas.
- warp ikat vs. weft ikat (more blurred and handmade appearance) vs. double ikat (most precise)
- inabel style: textile made of cotton and other natural fibers that are woven together in pedal frame looms. Abel is the process while Inabel is the outcome.
- Abel is really labor intensive and weavers have to master hand and feet coordination  to properly use wooden handloom.
- Inabel patterns are inspired by nature
- Kalinga: dominant red stripes and motifs of geometric patterns as well as nature symbols interlaced with white yellow and black fibers
- Gilamat Ka-in is a wrap skirt that was traditionally woven in Lubuagan but is widely worn all over Kalinga
- Indigo and red symbolise the sky and ground which are the national colors of the Kalinga, with a coin attached as a pendant
- Yellow portions are embroidered and depicts mountains. It also symbolizes wealth. Embroidered plant patterns refer to growth and fertility
- Colorful beads or “bongol” is a part of the native costume, usually worn during fiestas, weddings, and important occassions.
- Ginamat (Kalinga cosatume), Bahag (or G-String og Kalinga)
- Bontoc Style: motifs are geometric shapes of things in environment like men, lizards, mountains, rains, and flowers
- Siniwsiwan: clothing and blankets. Often used for Bahag amongst men and Tapis amongst women
- married women wear ginaspala wanes (belts) with inawin patterns (continuous zig zag patterns)
https://digitalcommons.unl.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1577&context=tsaconf
https://thehinabiproject.org/styled/#:~:text=Textiles%20in%20Mindanao%20are%20predominantly,is%20native%20to%20the%20Philippines.&text=Among%20the%20Moslems%20of%20Mindanao,weavers%20do%20not%20weave%20abaca.
- Textiles in Mindanao are predominantly handwoven from abaca (musa textilis). A member of the banana plant family, it grows naturally and is native to the Philippines
- weaving is done with back strapped looms
- Manuvu: Mandaya, Bagobo, Blaan, Higoanonm and T’Boli weave with Abaca
- Moslems in Mindanao (Magindanaon, Maranaw, and Yakan) continue the tradition of cotton and silk weaving. Muslim weavers do not weave abaca
https://cnnphilippines.com/life/culture/2017/06/27/mindanao-weaves.html
- The woven textiles express both the agricultural roots of each community, as well as a strong non-Christian belief system animated by ancestral and natural spirits
- Kusikus : Wind God motif, thought to shield from furious winds
- Sarimanok: a mythical bird of good fortune (in maranao textiles), the crocodile/lizard is revered for the symmetrical design patterns in its skin, and the Fak is a representation of a frog for its role in agriculture (found in T’Boli T’nalak cloth)
- community’s agricultural roots is also evident in the textiles through patterns depicting tiny diamonds (representing rice grains) and Xs (representing rice mortars)
- Mandaya people’s most popular textiles is called dagmay, which is a handwoven cloth designed with patterns of man and crocodile, for which the mandaya weavers are known for. Geometric and curvilinear forms in yellow, blue, and white yarns, as well as hooks crosses and diamond shapes are the favorite embellishments in the Mandaya’s woven fabrics
- more distinguished women wore red cotton blouses with black sleeves while the common women wore brown and more common women wore brown and black abaca blouses.
- B’laan employ similar weaving styles as their neighbors the Bagobo and T’Boli, producing ikat textiles on abaca or handwoven cotton
- well known for their embroidery and decorative skills, using cross-stitches and outline-stitches to embroider stylized human figures, or when they stitch small disks of mother-of-pearl at regular intervals over the cloth
- Maranao and Maguindanao (people of the lake)
- produce malong which is worn by men and women for a number of purposes. Made by sewing two pieces of sarong cloth lengthwise along its edges to produce a square and can be woven from either cotton or silk. Landap has been noted to be probably the most distinctive malong, which comes on one solid color or two colors arranged in alternating bands.
- the maranaos weave into colorful bands called langkit, consisting of three to four colors with okir designs: scroll, leaf, or vine motifs in abstract forms.
- the sarimanok is a key figure in maranao art
-Yakan
- known for weaving brightly colored fabrics, producing a myriad of textiles with distinct, strongly geometric, repetitive patterns
- bunga sama (based on diamond), sinaluan (small bands of bisected and quartered lozenge shapes), and pussuk labbung (saw-tooth-pattern), and the kabban budi (triangular-rectangular designs)
-Bagobo
- weaving pattern tied to Magandi, a dominant warrior class, identified by the red color of their clothing
- ikat is a prominant fixture in their textiles, characterized with a rhomb design and curvilinear patterns. Their most recognizable motifs are inspired by the natural environment: lightnight, plants, stars, and human figures
- T’Boli
- well known for their t’nalak which is a distinctive abaca cloth that comes in three colors: reddish brown, black, and white. Black and brown colors come from naturally occuring dyes and white is the natural color of abaca.
- well known t’nalak patterns include: bangala (man in house), Klung (shield), sawo (python), nipa g’mayaw (mythical bird), and the tofi (frog); all based in sigul, a zigzag arrangement of triangles or rhombs
- designs for the t’nalak are borne from the weaver’s dreams, and the spirit of Fu Dalo (guardian of t’nalak designs) begins to reside in the cloth at the start of its production, thus warranting extreme care to prevent breakage ofthe yarns while weaving
Tausug
- used to weave cotton and silk textiles from imported yarns.
- habul tiyahian (or labur tiyahiran) is a traditional textile, an embroidered sarong
- well known tapestry weave techniques found in pis (head cloths), tadjung (tubular skirts), and kandit (sashes)
- pis siyabit is characterized by diamond shapes, diagonal crosses, and zigzag motifs inside small squares and rectangles. Predominant colors are pink, orange, and maroon shades (sometimes with a bit of green)
https://artsandculture.google.com/exhibit/the-art-of-the-malong-ayala-museum/owKCDBBzFibtIg?hl=en
- malong used by maranao and maguindanao from mindanao
- can be worn by women as a dress and by men over trousers as a formal wear
- traditionally handwoven by women using a backstrap loom
- silk textiles into wedding saris arrived in Philippines and Indonesia from Gujarat, India. Also known as “patola,” these circular patterns from India were adopted by Maranao weavers
- can either be made of silk for ceremonial occasions or cotton
- grouped into two kinds: intricate design or simple hatching with two colors
- for everyday wear, the malong is. usually made of cotton with simple plaids and stripes
- more elaborate malong made of silk in colors red, purple, and yellow is worn for ceremonial occassions
- in the past, yellow was reserved for local royalty
- now men prefer malong with dark shades of red and magenta and women prefer yellow
- malong andon: considered the most expensive and rarest or the oldest type of the three types of malong. Andon refers to the Patola motif
- malong a landap: characterized by “langkit” or decorative strips of profuse geometric designs, hand-sewn on the malong. This is considered the most popular. Two narrow “langkit” are called “tobiran” while the wider band is called the “lakban”
- can include inscription in “kirim” which is the maranao language written with arabic script
-Malong a ampik: the third type of malong. characterized by a square pattern with lines and cross lines of contrasting primary colors along black and white geometrical shapes
- common motifs on malongs: “pako Rabong” and “matola” are the most common motifs.
- Pako rabong is a growing fern motif
- uses of a malong: used as a cape, cowl or raincoat, bag or sack, used as head gear, curtain

A Dance of the Heart
Chapter 1 Part 1: The Cave Keeper
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Imagine it’s gold embedded into her skin that runs along her whole body & stops at the edges of her face. Kind of like whiskers?)
Word Count: a bit over 1400
(I wanted to write more but I wanted to get this out as quickly as possible. So I'm gonna break up each chapter into multiple parts. I promise Aladdin will be in the next part. SOrry if it’s bad!!!)
A/N: I haven’t done complete complete edits on this so there’s probably some errors. It’s my own little spin of Aladdin, and I am completely in love with the remake as of right now! Like that dance scene between Jasmine and Aladdin, UGH, perfection! Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy :)
———————————————————————
They were shimmering.
Shimmering in such a way that anyone who gazed gaped in awe; as if a being higher than human creation cast the mesmerizing glow upon them.
What were they?
The answer’s simple, they’re stars. No one can resist the attraction, the pull of those brilliant forms of gas. Though all of them were splattered purposefully across the canvas we call night -everyone knows once the sun shies away and the moon blooms in the shadows- the stars show their faces and people show their face toward the stars in return. Whether it be consciously or not.
Those numerous little beads of light...that pulse in its unique fashion appear to twinkle and beat like the drum of a baby’s heart.
But what significance do the stars have? What could they possibly cause?
Well...you shall see.
——————
It begins on a dark night, where a dark man waits, with a dark purpose.
On this night, like every other ordinary night, the sun sets upon the arid desert and the moon’s pale sheen casts its usual glow. The sand critters sleep, nocturnal lizards creep, everything was in place. The deserts of Agrabah were as it should be. However, one being is once again seized from their slumber, on the fourth moon this week.
Though this night is different from the rest. This one night sends shivers down her spine and raises prickles along her arms and legs when she sleeps, unlike the other nights when she’d sense an invasive presence.
On this night, every crevice and corner of her soul is rattled; jolting her as if lightning crackled and illuminated the dark cave, ricocheting off the walls, and shooting into the core of her body.
Golden eyes snap open and flicker around the Cave of Wonders as a loud ragged gasp echoes from her mouth; with a start The Cave Keeper shoots up from the spot she was previously laying on. She takes a few deep breaths and drags her scarred hands, embroidered with golden designs, down her face. Staring into the dark, towards the entrance of where the cave would be, her shackles rise at the prospect of fighting off any threat that may linger nearby. Until recognition flits through her eyes.
‘We are familiar with these infidels, Cave Keeper,’ the Spirit of the Cave rumbles.
‘Oh Allah...this is the fourth time they’ve come this week!’ She snaps back in irritation.
‘Silence, they will leave soon enough,’
‘How many are there?’
‘Four men,’
Shoulders slump, as does her initial alarm...as well as the expression on her face. Lips twisted into a bemused scowl. The Cave Keeper lazily rolls off her pile of jewels that she made for the night. Coins tinkle and clatter as she moves. Thought once once her marred, gold embedded feet touch the ground, silence encompasses the dank cave.
Inside this dark spacious cavern lies ancient relics, jewels, gold, and riches farther than the eye can see, and she lives amongst it by herself. Though she’s okay with it, the solitude grants her a peace of mind. And if she were being quite honest, the shimmering items that were strewn all over the tall jutted rocks, boulders, nooks, crannies and the cave’s passageways, it was all quite beautiful. The riches and rubies made this desolate place look beautiful, especially when she’d wander through the passageways. Gold seemed to be encrusted on all sides of the tunnels. It was as if she lived among her own little stars, though she’d never claim any of these riches as her own. For she knew the folly of greed’s consequences. So instead she only admired what she knew wasn’t hers.
‘Besides, I know my place. I am only a dweller inside this cave, nothing more nothing less...’
While playing with a green jewel from her sleep spot a moment passes where she stands and listens, extending her senses. With eyes closed, her mind travels along the cave’s winding passages, passing chambers of twinkling gems and pools of diamonds, until she’s past the caves opening. Now able to see the expanse outside the cave.
Though she sees they’re all standing outside motionless, ‘Probably discussing who’s to enter the cave,’ her thoughts chime, it’s a waiting game she’s all too familiar with. Especially after all her years of residing in this hauntingly enticing place.
The Cave Keeper knows how this’ll end. It’ll end in either two ways-
Her thoughts are cut off as the deep rumbling voice of the Cave’s Spirit speaks,
“Who disturbs my slumber...”
To her, it is as if she’s fallen into a routine with the amount of times men have come and gone from this cave, many unable to go past five feet within it.
“This group is more persistent than the last...and that was a long time ago,” she grumbles, shifting from one foot to another as she focuses her mind to look upon the men’s faces.
Two men dressed in what looks like military uniforms, ‘And pointy helmets,’ sit by four traveling camels. ‘The same guards I’ve seen before,’ she concludes, disregarding them. Then she moves on to the other shadowy figure closer to the mouth of the cave. This one, she observes is a young man she’s never seen nor heard of the other nights before. She skims over him the same way she did the guards before wondering ‘...why are you here...?” Then disregarding him all the same as well, ‘He’ll die too, just like the rest.’
The Cave Keeper moves along to the last person. This person is the one she’s come to recognize as ‘Jafar.’ And she does not trust him nor his desires. Desires that create small ripples of unease within her cursed soul. His presence always reminded her of the things she tried to escape. Always. Every time she senses Jafar bringing a new victim here in hopes of finding whatever it is he searches for, paranoia always manages to bubbles up. No matter how many times he fails, Jafar always comes back. Ambition.
However, she’s cut from her reverie when she hears Jafar’s voice ring out.
“The Cave of Wonders. When you enter, you will see more riches than you ever dreamed of. Gold, diamonds, and the lamp.”
Still focusing on the scene unfolding outside she moves away from her bed pile, which really comprised of lumpy trinkets, and silently creeps deeper into the cave where more piles of treasures lie. There she’d be able to choose a spot to hide in while doing what she’s been doing for years, keeping this cave of traps safe. Nimble feet jump over piles of rubies and ancient coins as she goes. Her body moves lithely like a cobra, slithering in between tall hills of jewelry and miscellaneous things, set on finding the right spot to hide and work her magic.
‘I hate my job-’ She begins.
“-Bring it to me and I will make you rich and free. But take no other treasure, no matter how sorely you are tempted. And you will be tempted.”
Like a spell, Jafar’s words stop her in her endeavor. With half her body sprawled on top of a rocky mound, a shiver runs down her spine. As the gravity of the situation that’s presented itself washes over her, the little bubble of paranoia that she always tried to quell, was beginning to grow a little bit bigger as her little bubble of safety began to shrink. A diamond in the rough, she’d always hear The Cave Spirit say. It’d always turn away many people. The weight of those words sat on her mind.
 A diamond in the rough...
And just like that, the little bubble that’s kept her safe all these years, popped. Slipping and falling behind the mound of rock and ancient coins, her whole body went numb and her heart beat a little harder as her focus to see outside the cave snapped. Blinking rapidly from the abrupt disconnection, she frantically shut her eyes again, searching for the sensation that links her to the Cave Spirit. Desperation clawing at her chest.
‘Hey, hey Cave! Is this boy with a pet monkey really it? Did Jafar really find the diamond?’ She whisper-yells to the cave once her spirit and the Cave of Wonder’s Spirit intertwine.
‘I belief he has found the Diamond, yes. The young man’s heart does not appear to contain greed. Though his monkey does. Use your magic. If you choose to doubt me, test him,” the Cave of Wonders rumbles.
‘Way to have faith in me.’
‘You do hold doubt toward this boy…you will test him won’t you.’
‘That sounds more like a statement than a question. Don’t you trust me?’
The Cave only roared in response, shaking the ground beneath her feet so intensely she had to crouch low to the floor to avoid falling debris. In that moment, she knew this so-called Diamond in the Rough has made it into the Cave of Wonder’s, a feat few have been able to do.
‘Alright ignore me. And yes, I will test him my lord,’ the Cave Keeper sarcastically quips back, breaking the connection. The gold inscribed on her skin glows as her magic begins to ripple and flow.

SALAMANDER • Hand embroidered textile art by XPHAIEA © TOM CHERRY | 2019
***PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE DESCRIPTION THANK YOU!***
A highly detailed beaded Salamander crouches amongst the flames, carefully stitched onto a burgundy coloured felt, and mounted in a 6" embroidery hoop, ready to display on your wall!
Uses a variety of reclaimed glass and plastic beads. Hoop is wooden and backed in complimentary black felt.
Size: 6"x6" - took approx. 25 hours to stitch.
***
The salamander is an amphibian of the order Urodela which, as with many real creatures, often has been ascribed fantastic and sometimes occult qualities by pre-modern authors (as in the allegorical descriptions of animals in medieval bestiaries) not possessed by the real organism. The legendary salamander is often depicted as a typical salamander in shape, with a lizard-like form, but is usually ascribed an affinity with fire, sometimes specifically elemental fire.
The salamander in Alchemy represents rebirth, passion and immortality.
This piece is based on a 17th century alchemical woodcut of a Salamander, from Michael Maier's 'Atalanta Fugiens', 1617

Trinkets, 22: Interesting baubles, semi magical objects and items touched by mystery.
A small, Randomly Colored folded paper bird. When unfolded, it refolds itself and any crumples or tears it has sustained magically fix themselves.
An eyepatch resembling a large flower that covers the entire eye of the creature wearing it. When applied to a creature’s face, the eyepatch grows rootlike tendrils that wrap around the bearer's head to secure it.
A set of fish jaws fashioned into a bracelet. When worn, the bearer has an in depth knowledge of northern pike.
A bracelet made from a lattice of woven brass. It automatically adjusts itself to the wrist size of its bearer.
A shimmery cloak clasp depicting a violin and a sword. It smells vaguely of ash and fire.
A sealed metal tin labeled “Armstrong Mustache Wax”. According to the description, the recipe has been passed down the Armstrong line for generations
A glazed porcelain pipe. Everything about it seems vaguely familiar, but you aren’t sure why.
An old and beaten up steel drinking flask. After carrying the object for more than 1d4 hours, the bearer becomes convinced that the flask has to be kept a secret.
An uncannily familiar face etched into a piece of dead wood.
A marble pyramid, small enough to fit in a human’s palm. When held, shadows seem to flicker in the corners of the bearer's vision.
—Keep reading for 90 more trinkets.
—Note: The previous 10 items are repeated for easier rolling on a d100.

An uncannily familiar face etched into a piece of dead wood.
A marble pyramid, small enough to fit in a human’s palm. When held, shadows seem to flicker in the corners of the bearer's vision.
A glass marble that looks a bit like a lizard’s eye and is always a bit cold to the touch.
A dried yellow tulip bulb that becomes healthy and opens when brought into especially strong sunlight.
A rather clunky cube of dark wood, engraved with hypnotizing patterns.
A hand sized, grey, stone statuette of a woman. It’s exceptionally detailed for its size, as even the folds in her cloak look almost lifelike.
A sewing needle made from some type of unknown, otherworldly metal.
A maroon eye patch, covered in fine embroidery that depicts tangled rose vines.
A polished wooden carving of a fish that turns a vibrant green when placed in water.
A polished mirror in a simple wooden frame. Looking into it for too long makes people feel uneasy in a way they cannot fully describe.
A crudely made wool, right handed glove, that's always pleasantly warm.
A fist sized crystal that looks like it holds trapped smoke. It is easily scratched.
A velvet pouch filled with coarse sand that feels weightless.
A bronze brooch in the shape of a feather that lets off a faint glow.
A single Randomly Colored dragon scale, worn away by time.
A glass bottle of some type of potent-smelling tonic. It’s taste is gritty and bitter, and somewhat reminiscent of charcoal.
A leaf that never rots, wilts or decays. Purple speckles dapple its surface whenever it’s held in the light.
An empty section of honeycomb. It causes an almost electric tingle if touched to bare skin.
A lock of fur tied into a tight bundle with a parchment scrap beside it. It reads, “Pelt Sample #027”.
A gilded teacup, laced with a spiderweb of thin cracks. Despite the cracks, it never seems to break.
A slip of tattered paper covered in something resembling letters. It seems to be a poem written in an old language.
A tightly rolled scroll. Reading reveals it to be someone’s diary. They apparently had a dramatic life.
A simple, copper belt buckle.
A twisted, grey wooden walking cane sized for a halfling.
An ornate, tarnished key with two prongs. Neither end seems to be able to open anything.
A rich, purple hand fan. Intricate designs of peacocks cover it’s surface when unfolded.
A small piece of dead brain coral. Your mind feels at ease when you hold it.
A tablet of fired clay. Dozens of names are written on its surface.
An iron-bound bullhorn
A small bone whistle carved with symbols and imagery of death. When blown it creates shrill, eerie notes that echos into the distance.
A simple white ribbon. While it is attached to clothing, the bearer finds it difficult to fall asleep.
An urgent letter requesting help. The date indicates that it's from over a hundred years ago, but its linguistics are more suited to more current times.
A used incense burner crafted from a human sternum.
A finely beaded women's handbag. The beads are made of glass, and the different colors have been sewn into an image of a sandwich.
A large, dark blue button. On it is a baby's bassinet painted in gold.
A sewing kit filled with cacti needles with fine holes in the end instead of regular sewing needles.
A set of watercolor brushes perfectly sized for a gnome.
A bronze calligraphy pen covered in filigree patterns. When used as a writing utensil, the bearer will be incapable of stopping themselves from adding an "e", or that languages equivalent, to the end of every word.
A whetstone that will sharpen blades, but only if the bearer asks nicely first. If the bearer does not ask, every blade they attempt to sharpen will become increasingly dull.
A large vial made of smokey quartz, whose plug is comprised of compressed grass and glue.
A deck of well worn playing cards, marked with indeterminable stains and smelling of cigar smoke and whiskey.
A small bracelet made up of a series of interlocking clockwork mechanisms and ring puzzles.
A pamphlet for a new church in an unfamiliar town. It details their strong beliefs in polyamorous relationships and their condemnation for magic of any kind.
A pamphlet for a lecture on the differences between gnomes and halflings in a town not too far away.
A six inch coffin, hand carved from elm. The inside is padded and covered in light pink silk.
A plain oaken case, the inside of which is lined in plush, royal blue velvet. The velvet has three indents on which lie three ordinary looking pine cones.
A poorly made porcelain vase with gold leaf randomly placed on it.
A mason jar with a scattering of unicorn hair across the bottom.
A stuffed toy frog with amber, glass eyes. When in possession of the bearer, they will notice that the air around them is oddly absent of bugs.
A set of fake eyelashes made out of owlbear fur.
A short haired wig made from owlbear fur.
A long haired, black wig made from the hair of a horse's mane. There are strands of gold woven through it.
A fairly unused set of Orcish dentures. The canine teeth are made of silver.
A crystal perfume bottle half filled with a potent, musky scent.
A gnome sized silver hair brush. On it in Orcish script is crudely scratched “Remember Me”
Several dried moose ears sewn together and fashioned into a sheath for an average sized dagger
A black linen sleeping mask that covers the bearer's eyes during sleep to stop light from bothering the bearer.
A clear hermit crab shell made of glass.
A small bowl made of bronze. If any liquid but water is put in it, it will take on a salty taste.
An off-white canvas bag with a green and bronze dragon embroidered on it. It always smells of a campfire that has just been put out.
A small pillbox made out of layered purple, metallic scales. A close examination reveals that the scales are metallic, but even a knowledgeable PC cannot identify what creature they originally belonged to.
A small bag containing a set of a dozen 2x2 cm steel cubes.
A large riding crop with steel studs in it. A creature hit by it immediately develops a series of bloody welts in their skin which spell out the word "Ouch".
A pair of Randomly Coloured silk stockings.
A flute that makes no sound, no matter how it is played. It’s surface is a shimmery grey.
A heartfelt poem about unrequited love on a pristine scroll.
A stone tablet, with etchings of great heroes covering it. All of their eyes are scratched out.
A sketch depicting a wilting rose that causes anyone who looks at it to feel bleak.
A flamboyant masquerade mask with large, rare feathers coming from one side. There’s a small chip under the left eye.
A ragged piece of burlap with the personal crest of a wealthy merchant inked onto it.
A set of smooth iron bangles. They have a decent weight to them, as if they’re pure rather than plated.
A broad cavalier hat that's a bit old, but it’s still fairly stylish.
An ornate saucer painted with scenes of songbirds in flight. Whenever you aren’t looking directly at it, the birds seem to move.
A wooden birdhouse, carved and painted to look like a castle.
A wooden spool with three feet of coiled copper wire.
A specially crafted steel cage that looks like it could hold about five rats. It includes stout leather straps around its open end and a metal crucible for holding hot charcoal or other fuel on its top end. Knowledgeable PC's will recognize this as a torture device used by tightly strapping the open end of the device to a helpless victim’s abdomen, inserting the rats into the cage, and setting the crucible’s fuel alight. The increasing strong heat of the metal crucible causes the rats to gnaw and dig their way through the victim’s abdomen to escape. Panicked rats will chew clear through the victim's body in order to escape the heat.
A deck of illustrated fortune-teller’s cards, used by those in tune with the spirit world to predict the future, and by charlatans to take money from gullible or desperate people. The deck is made of quality wooden plaques with painted color images and is stored in a smooth leather case.
A large suitcase containing a croquet set. It includes four wooden mallets, nine wooden wickets (goals), and four wooden balls.
A suitcase containing a dartboard set. It includes a multicolored board that breaks into four smaller pieces for easy travel and six brass-tipped darts. The board itself consists of a layer of of painted cork on hardwood backing.
A wooden box containing a set of dominoes. There are 28 white marble tiles with pips on each end.
A set of four brightly colored juggling sticks adorned with colorful streamers that can be tossed and manipulated to create displays and patterns.
A leather case containing two iron stakes and four iron horseshoes.
A thin length of rope with many oddly shaped bits of hollow metal fixed along its length. Commonly known as a roar cord, a creature can swing it over their head to generate a variety of eerie noises.
A broad-brimmed straw hat with a green linen band
A cast iron skillet whose perfect mirror surface never scratches.
A wood cased harmonica trimmed in tin
A small sack containing 30 gold pieces. Perceptive PC's will notice that they are all fakes, with thin gold plating over lead coins.
A palm sized rock with a lifelike mouth painted on it. While in a creature's possession, any laugh, chuckle or giggle the bearer utters sounds forced or fake, even if it's genuine.
An anklet made from fresh liquid blood, held together by odd magic.
A strange horn made of a winding pretzel of valves and tubes that according to the maker's mark, was finely crafted by a powerful bard. Knowledgeable PC's will remember that the horn was constructed for one purpose, to lock a terrible beast away deep within the mountain of Redwall. It contains a large portion of the life essence of that bard and to this day it remains as the solitary key to the door that holds the beast at bay. No one knows who this bard was, but he remains an unsung hero of the city.
A demon skin stretched over a black wooden war drum that creates deep growling rumbles when beaten.
A driftwood coin whose color is constantly swirling in different muted hues, from pale gray to seafoam green and even thin stripes of black. The surface of the coin is utterly smooth, as if it has spent an aeon at the bottom of the sea. Despite this, the elven queen and king that adorn its opposite faces are still depicted in perfect detail.

A Country Style Wedding at Cripps Barn
This post A Country Style Wedding at Cripps Barn first appeared on The Wedding Community Blog
I have loved Cripps Barn ever since my best friend held her wedding reception there back in 2010. The beautiful rustic barn with exposed beams and brick, and the fabulous large windows, is the perfect backdrop for a country style wedding, and that’s exactly why Jack and Chloe chose the venue for their special day.
Chloe and Jack filled the barn with the most beautiful country garden flowers. On the tables they displayed jars of flowers on oak slices with pretty vintage table name cards, the large fireplace was adorned with a fabulous floral display and pillar candles, and the pièce de résistance was the amazing large floral globe suspended from the middle of the barn – incredible! The pretty flowers also feature in Chloe’s bridal bouquet. Filled with agapanthus, ranunculus, Nigella and lisianthus, it looks beautiful against her elegant white Sottero and Midgley wedding dress, Sandrina.
Chloe wore her sensational embroidered lace and tulle wedding dress with a pair of beautiful peep toe Rachel Simpson shoes, Hazel, with pretty, delicate beaded embellishment. To finish her bridal look, Chloe chose a chapel length veil for a traditional look.
To inject a little fun into their country wedding, Chloe arrived at Cripps Barn in a cute Indian Ambassador car, which is reminiscent of a Morris Minor from the outside but has an incredible patterned red and gold interior. Too add to the look, the car bumpers are festooned with flowers.
The whole wedding is filled with such attention to detail, fun and love. Grab a cuppa on this Monday morning, and enjoy these delightful pictures taken by Geoff Kirby Photography.
Country Wedding Theme
“Jack and I met in a nightclub in our first year of university, and realised we were both studying on the same course. We stayed best friends for the next four years of uni and ended up living together in our final year. Eventually we got together – which surprised nobody!
“We went for a rustic, country wedding theme in blush and dusty blue to match the barn, with lots of inspiration from Pinterest. I made our table markers with vintage postcards of all the places we have lived or travelled to together. Jack used pallet boards and mismatched photo frames to create the seating plan and order of the day. We chose loosely arranged country garden style flower displays, including large flower globes hanging from the ceiling in the barn.
“I wore a Sottero and Midgley fitted dress with Rachel Simpson shoes, and my bridesmaids wore blue Dessy dresses. Jack and the groomsmen wore Ted Baker lounge lizard suits with dusty blue ties.
“In the evening we had a DJ, a homemade photo booth with props and a Polaroid camera, and a fire pit where guests could toast marshmallows. During the ceremony, our good friend, Jake, played an acoustic guitar set to accompany the signing of the register.”
An Amazing Time
“Our best memories of the day were being surrounded by our family and friends and watching them have an amazing time. The speeches were one of the highlights, especially once we had found out which words were in the drinking games! Having photos in the stunning meadows at sunset has to be one of our most memorable parts, along with taking a drive in the Indian Ambassador car right after the ceremony.
“My advice to other couples is to not be afraid to make things yourself for your wedding. They usually look better than you thought they would and make a great piece to keep for memories.
“Also, choose a venue with staff that give a warm first impression. The staff at Cripps Barn were fantastic, from our very first contact until their presence on the day, which made the world of difference to our nerves!
“Above all, relax and enjoy your day. Take time to check in with each other and spend a few moments just the two of you watching the day from afar. The sight of all your most beloved people coming together and enjoying a day in your honour is a memory to treasure forever.”
