Reading canon James and Sirius is very therapeutic after too much time in the fandom

“Names?” repeated the long-haired driver. “Er – well, let’s see. There’s Wilberforce… Bathsheba… Elvendork…”

“And what’s nice about that one is, you can use it for a boy or a girl,” said the boy in glasses.

“Oh, OUR names, did you mean?” asked the first, as Anderson spluttered with rage. “You should’ve said! This here is James Potter, and I’m Sirius Black!”

“Things’ll be seriously black for you in a minute, you cheeky little —”

But neither James nor Sirius was paying attention. They were suddenly as alert as gundogs, staring past Fisher and Anderson, over the roof of the police car, at the dark mouth of the alley. Then, with identical fluid movements, they reached into their back pockets.

There's a doctor at this treatment facility whose name is not quite, but very close to, Dr. Elvendork.

for the new besties that haven’t a clue what an elvendork is it comes from a less than 1k short story hiss hiss nasty terf author wrote about James and sirius having a run in with muggle police. And I hate to give her credit but it is actually very entertaining. A couple of absolute Elvendorks.

Rewatching GO2 Episode 6 and becoming more and more convinced that at least part of the reason Aziraphale went from an initial reaction of "I've made my position quite clear" (i.e. no, I'm not even going to listen), through "I don't want to go back to Heaven" (pretty clear cut rejection) to ultimately accepting the promotion and actually going with Metatron is because he realises, or is convinced, that his only reasons for NOT doing so are selfish ones, and he can't bear to make the selfish decision.

He initially effectively says no - I made my decision when I chose to protect Earth. He says this in different ways at least twice. He has also shown numerous times all the way back to the Garden that he is willing to sacrifice himself and his position in order to do good. Look at him giving the sword away and lying to God about it. Look at him lying to Gabriel to save Job's children even though he is convinced he'll Fall for it. He acts because he genuinely thinks it is the right thing to do. This is not someone who acts for personal power or safety.

Then he is told Crowley can join him (and even here doesn't actually say YES yet, he just doesn't say NO either, and both Crowley and Metatron make assumptions) and he starts to change his mind.

Aziraphale is clearly ecstatic with the whole idea as soon as he thinks Crowley will be joining him. (As soon as he has clear evidence, in this offer, that he really will be able to make tangible changes.)

Crowley turns it down. Aziraphale is visibly devastated. (Also he definitely pulled Crowley in a bit during the kiss, you do not press someone's shoulder towards you to push them away from a kiss... Anyway, neither here nor there for this discussion.)

I think Aziraphale realises/is convinced that if he refuses Heaven's/Metatron's offer, the only real reasons for that are selfish ones: He wants to stay with Crowley, with his bookshop, on Earth. Those are what he WANTS to do. They are not what he SHOULD do, from an objective "how can I do the most good" standpoint, with the assumption (justified or otherwise) that in taking the job he will be able to make changes for the better.

We are obviously all heartbroken and the consensus is generally that Aziraphale made the wrong decision. And he did. For his own and Crowley's happiness.

But even if all the "good" he manages to do ends up being perhaps advance warning of any plans Heaven has, rather than being able to change them or change Heaven as a whole, as he clearly wants to... Then that could be really important for the world/humanity/etc. And Aziraphale doesn't have all the information we do, or the perspective we do.

Possible unpopular opinion time, but... From Aziraphale's perspective, taking out "selfish" (at least, personal) reasoning? Giving the benefit of the doubt and assuming he will be able to make at least some of the changes he wants to make (we know he won't, he doesn't)... He arguably made the right choice for the good of everyone except himself and Crowley.

Aziraphale is "too pure hearted" to make the selfish choice here, or the one he perceives as selfish. He can't sacrifice the opportunity to do good for his own happiness (even assuming he could be happy if he didn't at least try and change things).

This is also why Beelzebub and Gabriel were able to "go off together" but Crowley and Aziraphale can't. Neither Gabriel nor Beelzebub care about Earth or humans at all, or have any interest in protecting it or anyone other than themselves/each other. Aziraphale and Crowley both care far too much for their own good. Aziraphale, in this decision, definitely does.

(I also think part of him is hoping that he can make the changes, do good, turn things around in Heaven… And Crowley might be convinced and change his mind. I think he's still holding out hope that Crowley will join him in the end.)

every tuesday after he escapes azkaban, sirius apparates to the spot in the woods in muggle london where he and james used to have lunch the same day of the week, every week since they discovered it in their fourth year.

they rarely preferred routine back at hogwarts, dreading predictability more than the idea of losing their lives. they thought of boredom, of monotony, of inaction as incremental death. better to go out with a wand in your hand and still a spark in your eye.

but this was the exception. their only ritual, one for just the two of them. a place where they would come and everything would feel lighter without the weight of who they wanted to be, and who they had to.

now, sirius sits on the log next to the cedar tree, his eye catching on their initials, scratched into the weary wood what seems like lifetimes ago. he traces his finger along the J, then the P, the star james inscribed next to sirius' SB.

he doesn't have much of an appetite anymore, not like he used to, before. he prefers to skip as many meals as he can before he feels the telltale signs of a fainting spell approaching. sometimes he goes a bit longer without. if nothing else, he'll get a dreamless sleep out of it.

but on tuesdays he eats lunch. he eats mince pies and treacle tarts and drinks muggle beer he got mundungnus to nick from a shop in camden.

he never cared for any of them, but they were james' favourites.

he tranfigures some bread out of leaves to throw to the ducks in the pond. james named them elvendork, wilberforce, and bathsheba. all three are still there. their quintet feels strange reduced to a quad.

sometimes, he visits the old bar next to the woods where he and james went for their sirius' 17th. sirius thinks it's the last night he can remember being truly happy. the last night when they still had hope and lived under the delusion that things could go the way they wanted them to. everything was how it was meant to be.

the old owner, a man named freddie, is gone now. someone tells him that he shifted to france a couple years back to pursue his dream of being a writer.

it strikes him- a strange, unfamiliar disquietude at the fact that time has gone on. that people have moved on. that the loss hadn't stopped the world in its tracks. it'd stopped his.

he pays his bill clumsily with muggle money. the barkeep asks him if he's okay. he nods the affirmative and forces a laugh that sounds too high-pitched to his ears.

then, sirius returns to his mother's house, back to his prison, and dies his death in increments.

hiii this is the w*lfstar anon from before and i just re-read the harry potter prequel and oh my god. i reiterate... i really dont understand how anyone could be a w*lfstar shipper when we have canonical moments of james and sirius going out on the bike and being assholes .... the way they play off each other.... the chemistry ... some quotes i thought youd appreciate:

'“Get off the bike!” he bellowed at the smirking youths, who sat basking in the flashing blue light as though enjoying it' ... james and sirius looking for trouble being cocky and arrogant when they get caught bc theyre sooo confident they can get out of this situation + they both think its funny THEY ENJOY BASKING IN THE BLUE LIGHT!!!!

New to Prongsfoot Week: Favorite Canon/Potentially Canon moment - IE, something like Sirius comforting James after the DADA OWL and Lily’s reaction or (even though it’s platonic) the moment James asked Sirius to be Harry’s godfather.  

The entirety of the auction short story, where these two assholes fight Death Eaters, cause problems for muggle police, wear matching t-shirts, and are irreverent little shits on a motorcycle. Elvendork is a unisex name and they will name a future child that, probably.

Prongsfoot Week 2024 Day 3

DAY 3 - 

New to Prongsfoot Week: Favorite Canon/Potentially Canon moment

A very simple answer is everyday Prongsfoot.

Platonic or romantic. I love slice of life and I just can't get enough of thinking about how the boys would be during their Hogwarts Year in the lessons, and in the Common Room and in their room. Plotting and pranking and falling in love with each other without even knowing it's happening.

And I do adore the little snippet about the two of them in Order Of The Phoenix, being chased on Sirius' bike by Muggle police officers. Elvendork and all. I just want to see them carefree and enjoying life, enjoying all those things that were so so shortlived for them.

No secret can last forever, though. All Crowley can hope for is that Aziraphale won't resent him for it.

7. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like?

While I read the books ages ago, I’ve only recently joined the fandom so my apologies if this is wildly wrong 😂 but what I’ve noticed in the corners of fandom I’ve interacted with so far is that for the most part, people genuinely love Harry! No matter how much they might differ on other, er, more controversial characters. Which is great, because Harry is extremely lovable!

14. Assign a fashion aesthetic to this character.

Okay this one’s interesting! When we actually meet Sirius, he’s just escaped from Azkaban so he’s wearing prison robes. In both gof and ootp, he’s wearing robes again, which I imagine must be plain af because Harry never describes their colour/pattern (but this doesn’t really mean he prefers wizarding robes since at this point in canon he’s got like, 99 other, more pressing problems than what to wear, xD.) We also know Sirius can dress convincingly as a Muggle (unlike several other witches and wizards we see in the series). As can James, apparently, since we have this from the Elvendork prequel:

Both were dressed in T-shirts emblazoned with a large golden bird; the emblem, no doubt, of some deafening, tuneless rock band.

The only firm headcanon I have of his fashion aesthetic is…it’s really low effort. It’s careless.

Whether it’s wizarding robes or Muggle jeans, Sirius is the type of guy who’d look drop dead gorgeous rolling out of bed in his bedcovers. I can’t see him wearing carefully embroidered robes like Yaxley or wacky colours like Dumbledore, and jeans and a simple tee are pretty much the only Muggle clothing I can see him in. I don’t get the impression that Sirius particularly cares about his appearance. He just doesn’t have to.

So basically, my answer is…the aesthetic wherein you get the sense that he hasn’t tried at all, and that makes it sexier, somehow 😂
