This part covers SMT: if... and Persona 1. I went with the Reiko route for If..., since that felt like the one with the most lore sharing and resolution. More loyal to Tamaki's character. Yumi's route will remain canon only to Nobu.

- Tamaki teamed up with Reiko and, using the Demon Summoning Program and a COMP, defeated the Demon Emperor (Game: Shin Megami Tensei: if...).

- Reiko stayed with Hazama in the Expanse, while the rest of the school was transported back to the physical world (Game: Shin Megami Tensei: if...).

- Tamaki met Stephen, who had a private chat with her (Game: Shin Megami Tensei: if...).

- Kandori kidnapped Maki from the hospital to control her ideal world (Game: Megami Ibunroku Persona).

- Naoya, Mark, Nate, Elly, Brown, Yukki, and Yuka awoke to their Personas and met Philemon (Game: Megami Ibunroku Persona).

- The DVA System transported half of Mikage-cho to Maki's world (Game: Megami Ibunroku Persona).

- Maki's subconscious was divided into Ideal Maki, Mai, and Aki. Aki decided to follow Kandori, seeing him as the father she never had (Game: Megami Ibunroku Persona).

- Philemon granted a Persona to Reiji (Game: Megami Ibunroku Persona).

- Class 4 met Ideal Maki, believing her to be the real one, magically out of the hospital (Game: Megami Ibunroku Persona).

- Saeko put on the Snow Queen Mask, and became a victim of Tomomi's spirit. Class 4 defeated all the victims of the Snow Queen Curse and rescued Saeko (Game: Megami Ibunroku Persona).

- Naoya confronted his Shadow Self, who had taken the appearance of a grown Kazuya (Game: Megami Ibunroku Persona).

- Aki was eaten by Pandora, an empty version of Maki, who Class 4 had to defeat to unite all of Maki's psyche (Game: Megami Ibunroku Persona).

The final battle. The ultimate cage match. Ghoul vs. Ghoul. Sadako vs. Kayako. When this film was announced as an April Fool’s prank, fan outcry was so intense that the filmmakers were rallied and this gem was produced. From the moment two innocent girls watch the cursed video tape inside the Saeki house, a turf war begins, and watching these two fight so furiously will have you sitting in shock or howling in laughter. There’s nothing quite pitting titans against titans, and even if it isn’t the scariest thing we’ve ever seen, it’s definitely the most entertaining. The end result? Something even more monstrous than the two of them alone. (plus a killer end credit song from a Japanese metal band who came out of retirement just for this please do yourself a favor and watch this movie)

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL GROUP PHOTO EVER. 

I’m done Aiji’s good end just gotta do all his bad ends now before I’m done this game herp derp  and my final thoughts are: I am way more in love with Adonis than I am with any of the main characters ooPS. I don’t think there’s any game or story with more intriguing and complex villains than the Adonis members. I love every single one of them. The criminal chapter is the best thing out of the entirety of Collar X Malice.

As for Saeki.... haha. I was confident I was gonna love him but I honestly have mixed feelings about him. He’s pretty much just Goro Akechi in an otome game. He’s a far better villain than Nightshade’s Kando or Mystic Messenger’s Rika but even then his entire character just felt... lacking? Like christ most of the Adonis members had more depth than he did. I guess it’s cause there wasn’t much closure between him and Ichika which I really wanted to see. I wanted to see him and Ichika actually have a heart to heart about their friendship. Him telling her what he thought of her, what he went through, everything with his own mouth. There’s so many teasers that Saeki truly valued Ichika as a friend but in the end I’m just not convinced that their friendship was even real. I can’t really see that Saeki cared about her more than her being a cool test subject. Like ffs you never even learn of his story until you do the criminal chapter. Ichika goes on about wanting to ~understand him~ but in the end she never does understand him. She knows nothing about him and she never learns anything about him. After her initial breakdown, the writers act as if the two were never friends and idk his villainy was just super fucking underwhelming.

Basically what I want is a Saeki route HAHA. The game really didn’t do him justice and I just don’t feel connected to him at all like I thought I would.

Bookshelf Overload: March 2017

Well then, I managed to acquire a rather large number of books in March. Unexpectedly, most of them weren’t even manga. In part this was due to a bunch of comics that I had previously backed on Kickstarter showing up last month. I can also thank both online retailers and my local comic book store for offering some massive discounts throughout March. (On top of that, I have a tendency to buy books when I’m under stress. Seeing as I’m in the process of transferring from one job to another, there’s been a fair amount of added stress lately, too.) But as for the manga I picked up in March: I was particularly delighted to come across Mitsuru Adachi’s Short Program, which has been out of print for a while now. I also decided to give Kazune Kawahara’s High School Debut a try since I’ve been enjoying My Love Story!! so incredibly much. I was admittedly a little surprised to come across The Secret Devil-chan, Volume 1 by Emu, the first book to be released under Digital Manga’s new PeCChi imprint. The book has actually been available since September I think, but only directly from Digital Manga; I wasn’t sure if any of the publisher’s titles were still being released outside of it’s own web stores. And while 100 Manga Artists isn’t manga it certainly is manga-related. I didn’t realize it at first but it turns out the volume is actually a revised and updated edition of Manga Design which was released back in 2004 (and which I also own). I haven’t had a chance to closely compare the two, but 100 Manga Artists is nevertheless an interesting resource.

a silly lil idea i had this morning. idea was erika having social anxiety / a boomer moment with the dread not angel kids.

BECAUSE SHE'S A MOOD! like, i've been having a lot of social anxiety as of late. not even real life anxiety, it's online social anxiety! XDDD not to invalidate people (or myself) but because online bonds are both more accessible and ethereal, my gut feeling is to view this even happening in the first place as SILLY :') i feel like i've said a few things lately without complete awareness or good sense that the things i've said are in a particular social context/culture now than what i'm living in... and also, i think the one i am living in is outdated.

someone once mentioned this year on a discord server that once you're out of the loop, you become that "old person who doesn't get anything." i find that a bit scary. i don't want to be so tuned into everything--i can't handle it--but as much as i want to be a punk, i know i desperately want to belong somewhere. i want to be a part of the circle. i want to be seen and loved as a human.

i... i think it's telling how so many of my OCs, old and new, have this desire in the center of their soul. annika, navi, rafa, and now erika & undine...

i told my friend i wanted to change my profile pic again and i asked them if i should be nes or some variant of the ellies i drew and they said "yes"

so i "animated" all the ellie variants!

do have to warn you that it's sorta flashing in your face lol

i had to color correct her on paint tool sai though. when i exported from procreate, she was like. heeeeeeella desaturated even though the procreate version is pretty high in contrast and saturation??? different screens, i guess.

this was meant to be a non-serious painting thing. just something to sorta construct out of one layer. i was painting this in a way i've done before and think i should do more, although contrast remains an issue... but then... it ran off into the sunset. i mostly just wanted to see my baby QWQ. I'LL SHOW Y'ALL ONE DAY... i have quite a backlog of timelapses i want to upload. among other videos. ugh. i will never run out of projects to work on lol.

Jasmin Darnell picture was sourced from here! Their linework is amazing! However, there is 18+ content from what I recall, so please be mindful.

I am not familiar with George Asakura at all, so I'm not sure what work this panel is from. But I do know it is from her. Here's the Wikipedia article on her.

I wasn't trying TOO hard to replicate their styles. For one, while I greatly admire semi-realistic styles, my usual style is very anime/manga-inspired, and it's hard to break those habits. Secondly, for Ellie, I'm aware that there is too much detail in Ellie's hair and there are also too many folds in her clothes XD Also, the lineweight (6.0 pt) is still too much compared to the reference picture. Nonetheless, I really like these pics!
