i find it really annoying that people are all like "omg ella totally pranked bridget on purpose as a plot twist since that was the only thing they changed in the past and they successfully stopped her from doing that"
did none of you listen to get your hands dirty?? or even pay attention to anything about ella's character at all?? or pay attention to the original cinderella fairy tale?? bfr
an IMPORTANT detail of the cinderella fairytale is that cinderella was BANNED from going to the ball by her unreasonable, evil stepmother. the vase gave lady tremaine a valid excuse to ground ella in the movie, but if not for the time travel intervention, she would have found some other reason to just ban ella from going to castlecoming to try and get her own daughters to snag a prince. at THIS point fay would swoop in and save the day, but because she's already been established as bad at magic, THIS is why she is limited by midnight - after all, if ella wasn't banned and went dress shopping with bridget, how would the glass slippers ever be so important that she ended up getting her daughter her own glass shoes
two, the villains ONLY crack open the evil cookbook to lord it over red and chloe to rub their loss in their faces, once they think the coast is clear because red and chloe have ALREADY dispatched merlin's security, and they got too self assured. without time travel, they would've been racing against the clock to get out before they were caught by merlin. they wouldn't have had time to crack open the book. so once they were FINALLY safe i believe they would've been more cautious. perhaps ulyana would have consulted the souls of the black lagoon, or maybe one of her friends snatched it out of her hands and froze themself opening it in their excitement. it doesn't matter, all we need to know is that ulyana figures out that she has to trick someone good into opening it to the page she needs. since we know that ulyana intended to pretend to be bridget's friend, i think it's possible that she herself tricks ella into opening the book by telling ella she wants to make amends with bridget, which makes the betrayal so much more intense for bridget and explains away why she'd be so angry at her in the modern day

Some people say that Cinderella has been adapted too many times, but personally, I'm glad that so many different versions exist.
I've just been reading some of Tumblr's debates (mainly centered around Disney's 2015 film) about whether it's right or wrong for Cinderella to forgive her stepfamily in the end. Predictably, it's a controversial subject. This is one of the main reasons why I'm glad there are many adaptations of Cinderella. Each has its own unique tone and emphasizes different themes, which lead to different outcomes for the stepfamily in the end. So there's no single way that the story of Cinderella encourages real-world abuse victims to relate to their former abusers. From a wide array of different valid interpretations of the tale, we can choose the ones that we personally find the most resonant.
Here are just a few of the best examples:
Disney's 2015 live action Cinderella centers on Ella's resolve to "have courage and be kind," despite all the hardships she goes through. It's about staying true to your values against all odds. Lady Tremaine's own past suffering has made her bitter, selfish, and spiteful, and she would love to see Ella change in the same way, but Ella refuses. Hence her forgiveness of Lady Tremaine in the end serves as an empowering act; it's the ultimate loyalty to her value of kindness, and the ultimate proof that she'll never be like her stepmother.
Rossini's 1817 opera La Cenerentola likewise revolves around "the triumph of goodness," although the emphasis is less on Angelina's choice to stay kind against all odds, and more on social commentary: i.e. that kindness and virtue matter more than social status, wealth, or power. So again, it's important that even after she rises to royalty and has the power to punish her stepfamily, Angelina stays true to her compassionate nature, forgives them, and saves them from the financial ruin they've brought on themselves.
Disney's 1950 animated classic, on the other hand, is less about staying true to your values than about hope in the face of adversity. While Cinderella's kindness is still important, the bigger emphasis is on her persistent faith in her dreams of happiness, and despite all of Lady Tremaine's efforts to crush it, her optimism wins. In a story that's first and foremost about faith and hope, it doesn't matter whether the villains are forgiven or punished. Hence the stepfamily is simply absent from the happy ending.
The 1997 remake of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, on the other hand, has its Cinderella learn to do more than just dream of a better life, and learn that she deserves to be loved and has no obligation to her abusers just because they're her "family." Hence the climax where she finally resolves to run away, which leads to the Prince discovering her outside just in time, and the ending where the castle gates are slammed in the stepfamily's faces.
The original 1957 version of Rodgers and Hammerstein's musical has a similar arc for Cinderella, culminating in her running away. But the script's tone is more playful and satirical as a whole. So in the end, the stepfamily is allowed to attend the wedding, fawning obsequiously over Cinderella now that she's a princess, and it seems that they'll always be a part of the royal family's lives as annoying yet harmless in-laws, much like Jane Austen antagonists.
1955's The Glass Slipper, which averts the traditional gentle and kind Cinderella and instead lets Ella be an angry, unsociable rebel, isn't about any of the above themes. Instead it's the tale of an emotionally scarred, self-hating outcast who finally finds love and acceptance and who learns to open her heart to it. The stepfamily's role in this version is understated, so seeing them reluctantly curtsey to Ella near the end is all the closure we need for them.
1998's Ever After has its heroine come into her own as a strong, clever, idealistic woman who will be an excellent future queen, and teach her prince to be a better future king too. Hence her settling her stepfamily's fate in a way that combines regal diplomacy and mercy with justice: reducing their sentence from deportation to the tit-for-tat punishment of being reduced to servants. The fact that Baroness Rodmilla not only abused her, but sold her into slavery to a lascivious man, makes it all the more appropriate that Danielle doesn't forgive her: an act like that crosses a certain line.
All of these different twists are valid. Each adaptation's different themes suit the story well, and each different ending for the stepfamily fits the tone and themes of the adaptation. None should be taken as the ultimate message of how to deal with abusers. But I'm glad that they all exist and offer different perspectives to explore and choose from.

Anyone notice the Compare & Contrast in Cinderella (2015?)
Nothing major, just another reason why this movie is so good: going to talk about Ella/Kit v.s. Lady Tremaine/the Court.
You know how Ella, and more secondarily, Kit, have to hang on to their faith in “have courage and be kind?” And you know how the book-ends of the movie are “Ella saw the world not as it was, but as it could be?”
Okay obviously Ella has to have courage to withstand abuse, but I think more focus is placed on her kindness: she’s kind to mice, she’s kind to lizards, she’s kind to bratty stepsisters and kind to a super-horrible stepmother. And what’s the opposite of kind?
Tumblr media
Cruel. Lady Tremaine is cruel, but it’s because she sees the world as cruel. Unlike Ella, who is kind and sees the world as it could be.
How do I know? When she returns from the ball, she (cruelly) points out the fact that the Prince is not free to marry for love, the game was rigged, and then watches Ella for a reaction. And when her girls say, “it’s so dreadfully unfair!” The Stepmother says: “Yes…the way of the world.”
Tumblr media
That parallels what another character, presenting an obstacle and contrast to Kit, says in the movie: the King. When he learns he’s dying, he says: “Way of all flesh, boy.”
Tumblr media
Why? Because the King—as wise, and noble, and loving as he is (certainly no villain) is succumbing to fear as he gets closer to death. Not fear for himself; the movie shows no hint of that. But he literally tells Kit, “I want to see you and the kingdom safe.”
He’s afraid for Kit. He wants Kit’s safety, and the kingdom’s, and he can’t do what a father should do when he passes; protect. So he’s insisting on a princess, and the divisions that the Kingdom might get, to make it stronger, from an advantageous marriage.
That’s a great foil for Kit, who is kind, but is even braver than he is kind. He’s not being abused, like Cinderella is, but he is about to face a world where he’s got everyone’s fate riding on his shoulders—alone—without the loving father he’s always had. He has to become his own man fast, and defend what he believes in…
…no matter what’s “done.” No matter what’s proper, and no matter what everyone else thinks.
You have the Prince who must be courageous when even his own father is beginning to fear, and you have Cinderella who must be kind even to those who are cruel to her. It’s awesome.
But then, that whole idea of perspective comes into it.
The Stepmother is cruel because she has experienced what she believes is life’s cruelty.
Tumblr media
She’s arguing with Cinderella in the climactic scene, explaining that her first husband, whom she loved, was taken from her—and then so was her second, who never loved her as much as he did his daughter, who is so much more beautiful than her own—and all the opportunities for hope that she had expected to come with him. Lady Tremaine thinks the whole world, all of fate, is cruel.
She’s been subjected to hard circumstances—the first thing the audience gets to learn about her is, “she too had known grief.”
Tumblr media
Ella’s stepmother has had hardships—just like Ella. She lost “the light of her life.” She lost her second husband. She’s snared in debt, her daughters are mean and (by her own admission) stupid, and she doesn’t even like the house she lives in with them. She’s let her circumstances twist the way she sees the world. Now she believes everything comes at a price, and one that the world is just cruel enough to wring out of you.
Ella, on the other hand, has known even greater grief than her stepmother. We watch her lose her mother, her father, her dignity, and even (briefly) her faith in the course of the movie. By the time she has that conversation with her stepmother, she’s also apparently lost the chance to ever see the Prince again. But does she let it change the way she looks at the world? No!
Tumblr media
She keeps seeing the world as it could be. She won’t let her circumstances change what she has faith in; that love is free, courage and kindness have power, and will carry her through all of life’s trials. And the characters that change the way they look at things—the ones who are willing to, like Ella, see the world as it could be instead of as it is, find it to be true. Look at the king!
We know (from what the Prince says: “the wars have brought sorrow on us all,”) that he’s seen hardship. He’s seeing how fragile even his own life is; it’s coming to an end. He has every reason to be afraid for his son’s future when he’s not there to help him.
Tumblr media
He’s thinking, “the way of all flesh is to die.” And he’s hoping that by convincing his son to marry a princess, he and his kingdom will be safer. Safety, safety, because he’s afraid for Kit.
But what happens? He meets “the mystery girl,” who is, by definition, unknown, unsure, and unsafe. Clearly Kit is besotted with her; she bumps into him, then makes a darling little speech about how good and brave Kit is and how much he loves his father. And then Kit, who learned to verbalize it this way from Cinderella, tells his father on his deathbed, “I believe we need not look outside our borders for strength. We need only have the courage and kindness to see it.”
Tumblr media
And when he passes away, he does so by telling Kit that he should marry for love—even though the girl Kit loves may never be found again; even though, when she does, they have no guarantee it will strengthen the kingdom. But this is the King, acting on faith that those ideals his son believes in, and his son, himself, will be see things through. That’s him, having courage.
He stops seeing the world as dangerous, first and foremost, and starts seeing it as it could be, like Ella and Kit.
Comparing the King’s fear to Kit’s courage, and the Stepmother’s cruelty to Ella’s kindness, was such a good choice. And comparing the way these characters saw the world as dangerous and cruel, versus how Ella and Kit see the world, was an even better one. And they used lines like “The way of the world/way of all flesh” to do it.
This movie’s so good.

Three days after Crowncoming, Bridget finally came out of her room.
Principal Merlin had managed to undo the spell, but the real damage was on the inside.
She had messed up the shuffle of love. Ella had told her she hadn't been able to come, and considering what she had seen of Lady Tremaine, she had understood. But she had been there, staring deep in Charming's eyes, instead of with her. Bridget knew that the dance had been one of the few occasions where Ella was safe from Tremaine to admit to her crush on the prince, but she was also supposed to be there with her.
Everyone had been laughing at her. Everyone didn't care that she had given them sweets and treats every day since she had come. All they cared about was laughing at her.
Uliana had found her afterward. She had been so sweet. Bridget thought she wanted to comfort her, that she had some warmth in her heart. She had offered her the cupcake and she hadn't thought about it...
Bridget blinked at a tap on her shoulder, realizing she was staring at her cauldron. "Hey, uh," some girl, she didn't recognize her. "Are you okay? Ella tried talking to you, but you were zoned out-"
"Leave me alone."
Bridget didn't waste time waiting for her response. She rushed out of the now-empty classroom. She thought she heard Ella call her name and it only made her rush out faster.
The courtyard was full of students. A few looked up and snickered, the sound digging deep in her chest.
The worst was the laughter.
"Well, if it isn't the beast of the ball!" Uliana's high, cackling laughter echoed off the walls of the courtyard, her gang trailing behind. The sea witch came to a stop in front of her, grinning as though Bridget's very existence was one huge joke.
It probably was to her.
"Honestly, it's a shame the spell wore off. At least your face was improved-"
Bridget wasn't sure what possessed her in that moment. Uliana and her cronies had said much worse, done much worse. But she didn't care.
In that moment, her fist snapped out.
Uliana stumbled back, her eyes wide. Her nose was crooked and bloody. Hades let out a shocked laugh as she raised a hand to her nose and pulled it away, her eyes going wider at the sight of red.
Red...red was a good color. Better than pink.
Bridget reached out. "Look at you," she said. Uliana stared at her like she had never seen her before as she wiped away the blood. "Let's be honest here. You're nothing, Uliana." She reached up and swiped the red across her eyelids. It felt weird and sticky but refreshing. "The only thing you're good for is giving me paint."
...There was terror in her eyes.
She loved it.

Sorry it's taken so long to do another Disney Parent Backstory. Took a while to get back in the mood, but here we go:
Cinderella 's Parents
Her mother was a woman named Margaret, and her father was Lord Augustin Tremaine (I'm going off an older Disney book where Tremaine was Cinderella's family name, not originally the Stepmother's).
Margaret worked as a lady's companion for a noblewoman who Augustin's extended family wanted him to marry (he was an orphan by then), and so the two saw each other frequently whenever there was a social event
Augustin found himself more and more drawn to the charming and kind Margaret over his intended, and she found herself drawn to him as well
Eventually Augustin announced his love for her, and his intention to marry Margaret instead of the noblewoman chosen by his parents
This was of course something of a scandal among the gentry, and Augustin's family cut him off for it, but he had his own fortune and title and most importantly his True Love, so they lived quite happily for many years
At some point Margaret did a kindness for a fairy in disguise, who in turn promised her a boon. Margaret asked only that the child she was expecting would be watched over and aided if she was ever in great need, as neither she nor Augustin had family willing to care for the child if anything should happen to them
The pair began  calling their daughter "Cinder-Ella" after a memorable occasion when she wandered off and was found asleep by the kitchen fire (thankfully long died down) with her face all smudged and the name stuck
Unfortunately, Margaret died when her daughter was only four years old, and Augustin died four years later, after an ill advised second marriage to the widowed wife of an old childhood friend…
Prince Charming's Parents
Tumblr media
Young King Maximilian fell in love with Lady Constantina at first sight, the very day they were introduced as young royals at a diplomatic meeting
She was a beauty from the Southern Isles, a cousin to their Royal family, and her lively spirit and wit immediately captivated him
She in turn found his brashness and blustery ways, which had often alienated him from others, to be charming, and the soft heart hidden beneath them enduring
They spent every hour they could together during the event, and afterwards, they entered into a correspondence that rapidly became romantic on both sides and were married as soon as the necessary protocols could be undertaken
They were very happy together, and were blessed with one son, Henri-Christopher, whom they doted on, though Constantina sadly passed away a few years before the events of Cinderella took place

Drizella Headcanons
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
🟢 💚 🟢 - 💚 🍀 💚 - 🟢 💚 🟢
(I made the Drizella Gif myself <3)
My HC will stem from All 3 Cinderella movies and The Wicked Ones by Robin Benway and just personal preference and thoughts too.
DRIZELLA BASIC HEADCANONS
Drizella and Anastasia don't share the same father. Drizella is a year or two older then Cinderella but Anastasia is a year or two younger then Cinderella.
Anastasia looks just like their mother when she was younger, while Drizella looks just like her father much to her mother's dislike. This lead to Lady Tremaine to favor her youngest daughter often making comments that she was the pretty sister
Her birth name was Ella but it was legally changed when her mother married Cinderella's Father (Richard) since the man didn't want his daughter and Drizella both to be named Ella since she had just lost her mother he didn't think it would be fair for his daughter to have to change her name. Richard suggested Drizella because she reminded him of a freezing drizzle due to the girl's cold and quiet nature.
Drizella had a really rough relationship with Richard. She felt that the man was always comparing her to Cinderella and how much better she was to her. He was good with Anastasia though allowing Ana and Cinderella to have a closer relationship then Drizella could.
She developed a fondness at a young age for reading. Often using books to escape reality. A hobby that her mother didn't approve of since she felt that it had no value for getting a high quality husband.
She grew a short term relationship with a older widowed female scientist/scholar she met by chance one day when her Vocal Teacher (who was trying and failing at training her to sing better) was late; Madame Lambert. She was kind to Drizella when she needed someone in her life, Drizella almost moved away with the woman to become her assistant but it didn’t work out. Her mother found out her plans to runaway with the woman - and her mother gave her a choose. If she left with Madame Lambert she would report the woman for grooming her daughter and claim she witness the woman being indecent with Drizella or she could stay and Madame Lambert would be able to go and teach without any issues. Drizella choose to stay. It was during her grief at loosing the first person she ever felt cared and loved her where she ended up throwing a fit with Cinderella and she rubbed in the girl's face about her dirty status and gave her the name Cinderella. After all it had been her father who renamed her.
She took over most of the work when Cinderella married the Prince due to Anastasia's habit of daydreaming and higher belief in falling in love and marrying falling in line with their mother's desire to marry them off. Which is likely why when her younger sister found the fairy godmother's wand - Her mother decided to make Anastasia the one the prince fell in love with. Ana ended up helping Cinderella marry the Prince again. After that Anastasia was disowned by their mother but Cinderella took her in and the two lived in the castle together.
She choose to stay behind and take care of her aging mother as the oldest daughter she felt like it was her responsibility. Cinderella allowed them to stay living in the Château even though it rightfully belonged to her. As she tried to keep the home livable and food on the table - she found that her new reputation as Princess Cinderella (and a year after the marriage Queen Cinderella)'s ugly wicked stepsister made getting a job hard. So she taken to makes things like clothes, toys, paintings, and other little knickknacks to sell or trade in town with for the things they can’t grow around the Château. While dealing with her mother's abusive nature worsening.
Drizella is half Pooka (her bio father was a Pooka) and over time she developed her more animal-like traits including Pointed elf like ears, clawed paws replacing her feet, and prehensile tail.
4 years after having no connect with either sister. Cinderella and Anastasia attempts to create a new bond with Drizella who is a bit more stand offish and has a preference to being alone from everyone.
Drizella has rather low self-esteem and accepting of other's view of her being the unredeemable wicked ugly step sister. She believes that she is unlovable and feels like that is why shes never fallen in love with anyone (Shes asexual). While she still has a bit of a temper is prone to biting her tongue and taking the abuse from her mother or the village people not wanting to deal with the negative reactions of if she where to snap back. However she sometimes does has a hard time holding back her tantrums and will storm off to not throw a fit in front of others
DRIZELLA AGERE HEADCANONS
Drizella is premaregressior of 10 - 12 year old / Trauma Regressor age range of 3 to 6 year old
Has a preference to flee into the forest near her house when little
Love flowers, and playing in the creek
She makes her own toys including a stuffed Dandy-Lion. But she also sells wooden and knitted toys to make a bit of money to help keep herself and her mother afloat.
Is rather independent as a little but if shes comfortable around a cg (Cinderella or Maleficent is honestly my preferred CG for Drizella)she can be rather bratty and likes to push buttons.
She's most likely to regress after a fight with her mom or a bad trip to the village.
Deals with selective mutism both in and out of headspace - she will growl if non verbal to communicate displeasure or purr when please.
Is more likely to make a mess trying to do something herself then ask for help.
Can be rather immodest at times preferring to wear lighter clothes due to her enjoyment of spending times in the forest or playing in creeks.
Will bite if you try to touch her ears or tail.
SOME DRIZELLA ART
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The way I draw Drizella's hair does vary sometimes do it as poofy curls, other times its done as ringlets. I like to believe its dependent on if her hair was in curlers or left to curl naturally.

The Tremaine family
Anastasia: "Why do I have to listen to you?"
Cinderella: "Because I'm your commanding officer. We've been through this, Anastasia. I am Captain Snow's first officer. You are Lt Jr grade, be glad you're not an Ensign like Drizella."
Anastasia: "But you used to work for us."
Cinderella: "Yes, when you all treated me like a servant, but those days are over. Now get Drizella, we have to visit mother."
Anastasia: "We're going to the brig?"
Cinderella: "Yes."
Lady Tremaine, with arms folded: "If it isn't the three ungrateful bastards I raised."
Anastasia and Drizella: "Hello mother."
Cinderella: "Hello stepmother."
Lady Tremaine, with her arms folded: "What do you ingrates want?"
Cinderella: "I have some good news and bad news."
Anastasia and Drizella: "Please mother, for once, listen to Ella."
Lady Tremaine: "WHY SHOULD I LISTEN TO THAT LITTLE BITCH IT'S HER DAMN FAULT I'M BEING TREATED LIKE A PRISONER."
Anastasia: "It's not her fault, mother, it's mine."
Lady Treamaine: "Anastasia, don't cover up for Cinderella."
Anastasia: "I am not."
Cinderella: "Stepmother, I have been talking with Captain Snow for your freedom."
Lady Tremaine: "Let me guess, she said 'no' and you gave up."
Cinderella: "Actually she did say 'no' but I never gave up. "
Lady Tremaine (shocked and guilty): "After everything I did to you, you still fought for my freedom. Why?"
Cinderella: "Because despite everything you are the only mother figure I have ever known."
Lady Tremaine: "Then you're a fool, Cinderella. I am your stepmother but I never loved you, never will."
Cinderella: "I am well aware stepmother. As much as it pains me to know that you will never love me, I'll always love you."
Lady Tremaine: "Well hurry up and tell me you brat."
Cinderella: "The captain said she would let you out in two conditions. One, you return to the Enchanted Forest or you stay in the Fairytale and will be its janitor."
Lady: "I shall not do either of those. You're a disappointment as a stepdaughter and as a lawyer. Get a better deal."
Cinderella: "That's your only option, stepmother."
Lady Tremaine: "What about Anastasia and Drizella?"
Anastasia: "We're staying here, Captain Snow has been very nice to us."
Drizella: "Yeah."
Lady Tremaine: "Traitors."
Drizella: "You're the one that started a mutiny against Captain Snow when she was a very nice lady. She fought frost demons allied with Saiyans and Kryptonans. She even faced the likes of General Zod and Brainiac."
Lady Tremaine: "And I'll do it again."
Anastasia: "Please mother, we're trying to help you."
Lady Tremaine: "Don't make me laugh. You're just trying to get rid of me. If you were truly trying to help me, you'd keep me aboard and Cinderella in the brig. "
Drizella: "Why do you despise Cindy so much?”
Anastasia: "Yes, why? Ella never did anything to hurt us. We've hurt her more for no reason."
Lady Treamaine: "Because that little nothing doesn't deserve love."
Drizella: "Mother that was uncalled for."
Anastasia ran to the side of Cinderella to comfort her.
Drizella: "If it wasn't for Cindy, Captain Snow would have sent you to an actual prison. You're lucky they let us see you."
Lady Treamaine: "When did you two become so pathetic? My own daughters Drizella and Anastasia."
Anastasia: "Come on Ella, let's go. You don't have to take this. Mother may not appreciate your efforts, but Drizella and I do."
Lady Treamaine, talking to herself: "I don't deserve Cinderella's love. Why won't the girl just hate me already?"
Anastasia: "Ella, don't let what mother said get to you. You're a good girl."
Drizella: "Cindy, you're a hardworking one too. I am just sorry we didn't see how badly we treated you before."
Cinderella: "Thank you, sisters." (She hugs them.)

Hi can you tell me why there is two cinderella's and rapunzel's in ooat? is it a canon plot point or retcon? i only watched the first season.
Oooo, thank you for letting me use my rewatch knowledge to gush about this situation, nonnie!
SPOILERS AHEAD (tho I do recommend finishing the show, at least the first 6, if you ever find the time):
So, throughout the first six seasons, Cinderella (Ashley), played by Jessy Schram, had three more appearances in the universe post-season 1. One very brief one in the Pilot of Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, one in season 4 (The Snow Queen), and her final appearance in the show was in her second and last stand-alone episode in season six, The Other Shoe. Season six was about Untold Stories in the beginning and The Other Shoe details how Tremaine and Ashley's stepsister Clorinda ended up in the Land of Untold Stories and when they get back to Storybrooke, Ashley has to face off against Tremaine. The episode ends with Ashley and Clorinda happy with their respective husband and fiance, and Tremaine being punished for her actions. Therefore, the original Ella's story had a happy ending and was done.
In season seven, essentially a soft reboot of the show, Henry has graduated school and wants to discover other versions of classic stories, most importantly his own, and he ends up meeting Cinderella (now played by Dania Ramirez in a different iteration, from a different Realm) and long story short, they get married and have a kid. Her story is a lot bigger (but strangely she does barely anything in the season at the same time) than original Ella's but I could have done without her entirely. Dania Ramirez did her best but they didn't give her much and I would have rather they made Henry's girlfriend from earlier seasons his wife.
Now Rapunzel (played by Alexandra Metz originally) had one stand-alone episode in season 3 (The Tower), which mostly deviated from the Tangled movie and the original story but still had Rapunzel reunite with her parents again. The Tower was original Rapunzel's one and only appearance in the show.
Now, season seven Rapunzel is a whole other monster. I absolutely despise the direction they took with the character in this new iteration and let me explain why. Her first appearance this season is in the episode entitely "Eloise Gardener", where Meegan Warner plays a much more Tangled version of the character. However, at the end of the episode it is revealed that Rapunzel is not Rapunzel at all and that she is actually Mother Gothel, who pretended to be her to get Wish Realm Hook to impregnate her so she could escape the tower she got locked in and leave her daughter (Wish Realm Alice in Wonderland) to take her place. Real Rapunzel comes back in two episodes later (One Little Tear) and in this episode it is revealed that Rapunzel was actually Lady Tremaine the whole time. She was locked in the tower for stealing vegetables from Gothel, leaving behind her husband and two daughters for years. When she manages to escape from the tower and returns home (guided by the lanterns), she finds her husband remarried to Ella's mother and her younger daughter, Drizella, estranged from her. They all try to make it work for a while but it doesn't for Rapunzel, so she ends up cursing her husband and Ella's mother's hearts which has Ella's mother flee to Wonderland where she is killed by the Jabberwocky and Tremaine ends up killing her husband after Anastasia breaks through ice and Gothel has to preserve her last breath (and therefore her body). Rapunzel is the one who locked Gothel in the tower after Gothel manipulated her into getting rid of Ella's mother and Anastasia's accident.
Present day curse has Victoria (Tremaine) try everything to revive Anastasia as she did in the other realm too and still hating Drizella for being estranged from her all those years ago. Drizella has been playing her own game all along and cursed everyone to Seattle. In the end, Victoria is killed in a sacrifice to revive Lucy (Henry and Ella's daughter) and mother and daughter sort of make up but it's a dumb ending to a dumb plot twist all around.

@mxdam dreamed: “Wake up! Wake up! It’s just a dream!”
Sweat beaded her creased brow as images chased each other in her dreams. Round and round she ran on those attic stairs and never could she find the bottom of them.
Round
And round.
And round!
She had to escape, she had to leave, that was her slipper! She danced with the prince!
She tripped, landing hard on her hands and knees. When she looked up, her breathing labored, she faced two headstones.
Loving Father. Doting Mother.
No! Not again! "Don't leave me alone!"
She jerked awake, her embroidery knocking to the floor. She used to have nightmares often, but in the last few years after her marriage, they had lessened. Only recently had they returned. She blinked a few times to see her stepmother next to her, her stern face peering at her. "I'm... I'm sorry. I must have dozed."
She had taken herself to the library after dinner for a little peace and quiet, Prudence had been going on about the festival that needed planning, and having color swatches thrown at her all day made her head spin. In fact, lately, everything made her head spin.
"Is there something I can help you with?" She asked. It was still hard for her to choose how to address her stepmother. Madam? Stepmother? Lady Tremaine? It all seemed so formal, but then, that was how her stepmother had preferred things when Ella lived under her thumb.
She had invited her to the palace in hopes of mending at least one fence, she was her only family after all.

anastasia tremaine's canon disney verse; follows and/or takes inspiration from cinderella, cinderella 3: a twist in time and cinderella 2: dreams come true ( in that order ). this also doubles as a lengthy headcanon about her redemption arc. part of it will be under a read more simply so it doesn’t clog up the dash too much.
after the events of the first film, margaret tremaine punishes her daughters for both of them failing to secure a marriage with the prince ; forcing them to become maids in their run down chateau now that cinderella is living happily with the prince in the castle. while drizella blames their stepsister and loathes her even more, anastasia despite her frustration at having to do so many chores now secretly feels newfound shame seeing firsthand how difficult it is to keep the home clean even with two people that drizella absolutely doesn't share.
it makes her inwardly reflect on how she and her sister would often call cinderella lazy. and additionally despite her sorrow at not being the one to marry prince henri she finds herself feeling that her stepsister and him make quite a lovely couple and quite wonderful rulers together. anastasia doesn’t want to steal him but rather she wants a prince of her own, someone who will love her just as much as henri does eloise. but she's not pretty like ella or graceful, she doesn't sing like a songbird. she's clumsy, she's a terrible dancer, she snorts when she laughs and snores in her sleep. her mother --- especially after the events of the first film --- loves to remind her of her many flaws.
when she steals the fairy godmother’s wand she doesn’t have it in her mind to quite literally steal everything from her. she simply wishes to use the magic to make her and drizella new beautiful ball gowns and sparkling jewelry to wear at the next royal ball; perhaps she’ll meet a duke or an earl! surely someone will find her pretty enough and won't mind her flaws? but her mother takes over and uses the wand to reverse time back to when cinderella is locked in the attic. her mother forces her to sit down to have the slipper tried on, anastasia is filled with conflicting emotions but when lady tremaine uses the wand to make the slipper fit perfectly —- she can’t help but feel a burst of selfish joy, screaming with excitement.
that is until she hears and sees her stepsister coming down the stairs, confused and distressed. it makes her feel…odd, uncomfortable. a similar feeling occurs when the prince seems confused and a little disappointed upon seeing her, but then her mother uses the wand to alter his memories to make him remember dancing with a redhead rather than a blonde. ana convinces herself that she's perfectly happy with this. her selfish joy continues when the three of them move into the castle, ignoring the underlying strange feeling deep down. prince henri is very kind to her and she begins to think that he could actually truly love her, even without the magic. her mother and sister laugh at her when she expresses this.
long story short: cinderella's mice friends inform the prince about lady tremaine's deceit and show him her repaired slipper that helps restore his memory. the king orders his guards to go up and arrest the three tremaines.
her mother makes her and drizella flee. margaret uses the wand to transform her into a doppleganger of eloise. completely changing her face and body. anastasia can't put into words how much this hurts but she tells herself mother is right --- this is the only way she'll be loved. she's so pretty now maybe it won't matter. but that strange and bad feeling is getting more intense, something in her screaming no no no during "cinderella's" and henri's wedding. maybe her mother is right, maybe she has too many flaws and no handsome rich nobleman will ever want her for a bride but her stepsister and the prince really truly love each other. she finds she simply can no longer convince herself she's fine with any of it, she doesn't want to hurt her stepsister and she wants to try and find her own true love.
she refuses to go through with the wedding, to her shock cinderella stands in front of her to defend her when margaret yells at her and raises the wand threateningly at her. how could she be so willing to protect her? after how she treated her all those years? lady tremaine's dark magic is deflected by the prince's sword making it rebound back and hit her and drizella, turning them into toads. anastasia uses the wand one more time to transform herself back before giving it to her stepsister who thanks her and hugs her.
a year later, anastasia is living in a small house in the village with lucifer --- who's not so bad as he was before, though he's pretty cold towards anyone who isn't anastasia. it's not the chateau but it's cozy and easier for her to maintain. her mother and sister live in the chateau which is even more rundown, they refuse to talk to her or visit. her growing closeness to her stepsister though helps make up for losing her mother and sister. shortly after the wand fiasco, anastasia gave eloise a lengthy and genuine apology.
one day, she's drawn to a bakery by the smell of fresh baked bread --- the most delicious smelling bread she's ever smelled. this is where she meets a young and very handsome baker, not the old man she's accostumed to seeing in here. it turns out this young man is the old baker's nephew who tells her his name his matthew. ana and this handsome baker share a little moment, he says something funny but she’s embarrassed when she laughs and snorts and then to make matters worse in a clumsy moment she accidentally trips and pulls down a rack of freshly baked bread. stammering out an apology; she rushes out of the bakery.
she doesn’t know it but the queen, her stepsister, saw her hurrying out with tears in her eyes. ella finds her and convinces her to give it another try, it was an accident and surely the baker would understand. she invites her to the castle where she gives her a little makeover to help her confidence, giving her a new hair style and a new dress in a color / style more flattering than the hot pink and slightly worn one she was wearing before. queen ella doesn’t bury her face under pounds of makeup or put her in garish over the top gowns like her mother used to; she enhances and brings out her own natural beauty. for the first time, anastasia feels truly beautiful.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
she buys a heart shaped wreath of flowers intending on giving them to matthew and asking him to attend her stepsister’s royal ball with her. but then she sees the baker seemingly handing a “sweetheart flowers” wreath to another woman; was she wrong? did she imagine the sweet if brief moment they shared? did she ruin it with her clumsiness? she feels so stupid. she runs away dropping her wreath just as the baker sees her and the expression on her face.
but he finds her and explains that the woman was a friend and he was only asking her if she thought anastasia would like them. the wreath was for her, he wanted to ask her. anastasia happily accepts and they go together. a year later they are engaged. she tries to invite her mother and sister but they send back her invitation with no response. she and matthew have a daughter who will know eloise and henri as auntie ellie and uncle henri. she isn’t a princess, she doesn’t live in a huge castle but she’s treated like a princess by a man she loves and their home is beautiful even if it isn’t a castle.

The relationship between Ella and Margarethe is abused and abuser, yes, and definitely not mother and daughter. When I think of how to talk about them, what I think of is the dynamic between Elphaba and Dorothy in Wicked (the book, not the musical) (I have words I could say about that adaptation. btw):
“You’re my soul come scavenging for me, I can feel it,” said the Witch. “I won’t have it, I won’t have it. I won’t have a soul; with a soul there is everlastingness, and life has tortured me enough.”
In the book, Elphaba is the daughter of a fundamentalist preacher who considers her greenness and otherness a punishment for his sins. As an adult and political agent, she repeatedly rejects the possibility of having human, vulnerable feelings (when Fiyero initiates their affair, she resists, telling him, "I'm not a woman, I'm not a person, no") and disbelieves in the existence of her soul due to a combination of self-loathing and self-distrust, borne of her lifetime of rejection by the world.
When Dorothy Gale is sent by the Wizard to kill her, Elphaba, by this time significantly older and losing some of her sanity, reinterprets her journey and ultimately her presence as her own soul, long-lost, returning to destroy her. When she demands of Dorothy to know what she is there to do, if not to murder her at the Wizard's behest, they have the following exchange:
“I would say,” said the girl, straightening up, gritting her teeth, “I would say to you: Would you ever forgive me for that accident, for the death of your sister; would you ever ever forgive me, for I could never forgive myself!” The Witch shrieked, in panic, in disbelief. That even now the world should twist so, offending her once again: Elphaba, who had endured Sarima’s refusal to forgive, now begged by a gibbering child for the same mercy always denied her? How could you give such a thing out of your own hollowness?
To me, this is the language of Margarethe's relationship to Ella.
She is a woman capable of profound empathy and identification who has spent a lifetime experiencing abuse and rejection, causing her to deeply bury her own human impulses. She reinvented herself after her abusive childhood as a flourishing and competent adult, only to discover that she had built that identity on a foundation made of sand; it crumbled after the death of Francis Tremaine and the unraveling lies he had told her. Desperate not only for material safety and security, but also to maintain the life to which she was accustomed, she quickly married again, only to be rejected and isolated by her husband, Ella's father, who, as a condition of the times, had near-absolute control over her life and circumstances. (Not to say that he would exercise it, but it's a political reality regardless of his personal intent.)
Margarethe is a hollowed-out, deeply damaged human being who is confronted by an image of what she could have been herself, in another life: a whole, secure, and happy young woman who has been granted the tools, from her loving upbringing, to face hardship and suffering without losing her sense of self. Margarethe? She never had that. To be confronted by this inverted Self is deeply painful because it emphasizes Margarethe's own helpless reality. In that way, Ella really is Margarethe's "soul come scavenging for [her]," because the impulse to control and ultimately destroy Ella is so irresistible that it devours everything else in Margarethe's life. It causes the last remaining structures of safety and well-being to crumble and results in the final literalization of her isolation: her exile from the kingdom that Ella comes to rule.

I don’t have a lot of time to read fanfiction but I’d make time if there was a Cinderella 2015 sequel fic. About like, Ella having to learn to be a Queen who is kind and disarms everybody’s courtly politics with her simple honest goodness. Or maybe a neighboring kingdom asks for aid, and Ella and the Prince decide to face the risks to go and help them personally, and SURPRISE, Lady Tremaine is there and up to her old manipulative schemes only this time Ella and Kit can try and stand up to her through courtly maneuvers.
It’s just that Cinderella 2015 was so sweet and simple and perfect that even though I don’t need a sequel I want to spend more time hearing about how to have courage and be kind.

@stormlit : a kiss shared on a rooftop as the sun sets. ( molly & ella )
Tumblr media
ella always dreamed of moving to the country, of a life outside the prying eyes of the ton where she could be anyone that she wanted to be. a life where her name and titles didn't matter, where her life was not the topic of all the gossip around town and she could go about her day without judgemental eyes upon her. it is a pipe dream, she knows. there will come a day where that evil woman will pass from this earth and she will inherit what should have been rightfully hers. but, until that time comes, ella shall enjoy her few moments of reprieve in her trips to the countryside, in places where she is free to move about the villages without anyone knowing who she is.
more importantly, having this time away with molly.
Tumblr media
the two sit atop the roof of the small cottage, miles away from any sort of life aside from the few farm animals left to graze in the light of the sunset. with the servants dismissed early for the evening, there is no one left at the old tremaine cottage but ella and molly. a break from their work in the city, free to share this desperately needed time alone.
ella is struck for a moment, as her blue eyes turn to look at molly who is fixed on the sight of the sunset before them. the colors shine over her light hair, painting her like all of the beautiful women she has seen hanging in parlors and galleries. they all have nothing on her in this very moment. reaching out, ella tucks a strand of hair behind molly's ear and gently turns her cheek to face her. a smile warms her lips as an involuntary sigh parts them slightly. ❝ you are truly the most beautiful woman i have ever laid eyes on. ❞ sealing her sentiment, ella leans in and presses a slow, warm kiss against her lips; reveling in this shared, private moment between them that are few and far between in the city.

Lady Madonna set up her art in Florian's meditation space next to his third floor office. She favors the arts - music, dance, and fine art.
Tumblr media
Anastasia was under constant pressure to perform and sing well from her mother. They have a strict dynamic.
Tumblr media
The girls redid the guest room to suit their teenage tastes a bit more. They were used to having their own rooms at the vineyard, and this was very cramped in comparison. Why did they think living in a castle would be better?
Tumblr media
Drizella decided to play with her mother's makeup.
Tumblr media
Florian finally felt some relief and energy to teach Ella how to ride a bike. He seems to be growing a belly (ascites from drinking? Or something else...?)
Tumblr media
Ella had taken in all of the portraits of her mother into her own room out of respect for the Audleys-now-Tremaines, as well as her parents' wedding topper and Snow's treasures from her heirloom box. Florian had given Ella the knitting set and started using it himself.
Tumblr media
As it was Ella's birthday, Lady Tremaine gave her a present... a doctor's playset in hopes of training up her empathy. But it was a bit too late.
Ella realized after practicing biking for hours (and frustratingly not getting the milestone) that she had to focus on her violin and artwork to complete her childhood aspiration last minute. They were headed to Florian and Madonna's wedding reception soon... time was running out for Ella.
Tumblr media
Lady Tremaine: "What happened to your face??" Drizella: "Aww Mother, it's your makeup." Lady Tremaine: "Go wash that off! It's too much!" Lady Tremaine has a difficult dynamic with Drizella.
Tumblr media
Florian also worked on his portal.
