Yesterday I spent the whole day rearranging my book shelves. I've decided to stop buying books until I get rid of the (lengthy) backlog I've accumulated through the years. Fiction, classic, Spanish/other language, non-fiction and repeat, until my shelves go back to single row. I bought The Historian, by Elizabeth Kostova, several years ago and didn't get round to read it. I think it's time... This kind of genres is one of my favourites, add #Dracula or #VladȚepeș, #Ljubljana or #Emona and stories within stories and you've won me over. Well, an unexpected bonus to #womenwriters for #womenshistorymonth is that I now realize (after years of owning this book) that there is a face on the cover of Elizabeth Kostova's THE HISTORIAN. I have never seen it before, though I did wonder about the strange looking picture. So, thanks to the filters here and my addiction to #bookstagram, the picture has become clear! Better late than never, lol! What wasn't late was the realization of just how good this story of Dracula (spoiler alert: that's him on the cover... probably) in modern terms is. Modern-ish times. There's a lot of timeline jumps in this book. Still an amazing vampire novel, gets better all the time. #thehistorian #elizabethkostova

yknow, it used to be I was up this late for some crazy reason, or at least a party reason. now, it’s for less fun reasons but books make it kind of fun still? this one is hitting the SPOT. I’m in such an Autumn mood (& RAIN MOOD, please, we need rain 🌧 it’s so dry in the PNW right now) & a researcher inheriting a curse related to Dracula is definitely the perfect story for said mood. 🎃👻🍂 definitely grab a copy of “The Historian” by Elizabeth Kostova if you’re in the mood for a more realistic feeling vampire novel! There’s something about that myth that requires more meat to it than most storylines feature - when I want a vampire story, that typically means I want some horror, not romance 🤷🏼‍♀️ & this book is delivering!
