I honestly have so many thoughts about bucktommy overall but tommy kinard is such an enigma in many ways and it’s kind of like sudoku where it’s a fun puzzle to play around with headcanons based on intentional and unintentional canon information and i have so many thoughts whenever i see gifs

cause like yeah it’s very easy to just be like yeah i’ve seen pics of lou with earrings but choosing to interpret it as an intentional character element adds so much to tommy’s character

cause yeah ear piercings are way less gendered now but i know i certainly grew up hearing so many gendered rules about who could or couldn’t get their ears pieced and the “gay earring”, and i imagine that would have been so much more amplified for Tommy, just the layers of pressure and closeting he is seemingly under prior to chimney begins— which makes the pierced ears even more interesting because jt means in universe that there was some point in time that tommy felt like he could step out of those confines and take what looks like this tiny little step but in reality is profound for him but only temporarily since we don’t see him wear them even outside of work iirc.

and i’m just fascinated by these little pockets of liberation for characters like tommy —like for ref. I watched spn and one of my favourite fic tropes is Stanford Era Dean where for a brief moment he doesn’t have to be hunter nobody is perceiving him and he gets to just be himself a queer man— which just feels very Tommy

like i don’t have hard or fast ideas and tommy doesn’t seems like the most traditionally impulsive (like buck) but more of a measured impulsivity where maybe he doesn’t seek things out but he’ll eagerly engage when it’s there- i mean see every time chimney has ‘dragged’ him into things/information out of him

So while I could easily see it being a throwaway line of like “oh yeah I forget about em, I got them when I lost a bet” or as a more active rebellious move of like hey I can't do something grander but I can do this and the kind of people who would see this as gay are the people I'm looking to spite right now

But my personal favourite is (again a lot of this is me just wanting an version of the stanford era dean segment of A Thousand Lives fic but Tommy pre-buck) I really enjoyed the idea that Tommy got his ears pieced because he wanted to just sincerely, even more so if in a bitter sweet way it’s in this blip of tommy’s life prior to coming out when he’s out to himself and dating men, going to queer spaces etc. and one of them is some queer man with the patience of a saint who one evening in a moment of calm intimacy probably brushing their hands through tommy’s hair and when noticing his ears ask tommy if he’s ever thought about getting them pierced- and at this window of post army and either pre LAFD entirely or just pre-buck 118- he has just enough courage to say yes and agree to getting them pierced, and like eventually this partner would somehow convince him to do some level of gender bending expression or drag like a Halloween costume (like please can somebody draw Tommy doing rock horror) and then bittersweet it’d probably link back to tommy being just not being ready for or in the right environment to be really fully out and a mutual break out as the other guy looking for a more visible relationship

i really wasn’t expecting this to be this long i had to fully delete a tangent i had about my thoughts on tommy and love actually but that’s for a different post lmao, again really honoured that you enjoyed my rambly tags enough to want to hear more, i wish i wrote fic so i could put these ideas together better but at least it’s there

terry/ruben/chris !😌

:D okay so this one was written around the time i THINK i made some posts about the idea of the three together? it’s really just the outline of an especially self-indulgent crackship fest starring terry mccain (tig’s character from excessive force), ruben patterson (billy’s character from shootfighter), and chris no last name (ralph’s character from naked in new york)

(all released in 1993 btw. fantastic time)

so, ruben moves to new york to chase the underground shootfighting ring there - he’s already in deep and feels like he can’t get out, isn’t sure he wants to, but either way he still needs the money. while he’s masquerading as a normal person during the day, frequenting cafes and libraries and anything to make him feel half human, he meets chris, and they hit it off surprisingly well.

chris is taken by ruben’s handsome face and strange demeanour - he seems ~mysterious~ - and ruben is dazzled by how earnest and hardworking chris is, how eager he is to just spill his guts. the first few times they see each other, it’s chris just doing all the talking - endlessly, about his latest auditions and his writing process and the movie he watched last night and this poem he’s had stuck in his head and how the coffee doesn’t seem at good today, but ruben doesn’t mind one bit. he…likes chris, likes listening to him talk, and the less ruben talks, the less chris knows. he doesn’t really want chris knowing anything, even as they slowly start to dip into “dating” territory, but it’s hard for chris not to know.

he knows something is wrong. as they steadily get closer, he begins more and more to suspect that ruben is involved with something bad - petty crime? the mob? - but ruben won’t tell him anything, as desperate as chris is to try and protect him. ruben knows he stands a much better chance of protecting chris than the other way around, and he wants to protect chris from everything he’s involved with. chris just has to try his best to wiggle in close enough to pick up some of the pieces of ruben when he has to, a task that’s even worse when he doesn’t know how ruben keeps getting broken in the first place.

meanwhile, terry enters the stage. he’s on a mission to infiltrate and dismantle the shootfighting ring, particularly one of the main men running it, and in doing so meets ruben and starts building a bond with him for solely mission reasons. until, of course, he gets involved - he likes the kid, and he wants to protect ruben, especially from all the fallout that’s going to occur when he breaks the ring up, but somehow that blends into him seeing ruben more, spending time with ruben and his boyfriend, and he knows he’s in over his head but can’t find it in himself to stop. he likes ruben a lot - likes chris a lot too, even though chris clearly doesn’t trust terry one bit.

chris doesn’t have any context, but can’t help feeling that terry’s involved with whatever ruben’s involved with. he feels dangerous, and it makes chris antsy. he’s terrified that terry poses some sort of threat to ruben, and even more concerned that terry is just another tie on ruben, something else keeping him at least half-submerged in the darkness that’s clearly trying to take him away from chris. chris and terry’s relationship is, thus, tense, but they’re respectful with ruben between them - they both love him, and it’s clear that he loves both of them.

my idea was the whole thing coming to a head — chris startles awake to a phone call in the dead of night, and terry’s on the other end sounding more torn up than chris thought him capable of. terry says that ruben’s hurt, and though chris is used to ruben being hurt - constantly covered in cuts and bruises, wraps and bandages he won’t take off - this is apparently bad. ruben came way too close to a loss and got punished for it too, and suddenly chris is yanking shoes and a jacket on top of his pyjamas and running to some shady place he’s never even heard of before, a guy he’s sure he hates’ voice echoing in his head as he chases something he had no idea about.

they can’t go to the hospital, terry made that clear, so it’s just chris and terry together - and all their love for ruben - to try and sort it out. patch ruben up, rationalise why he’s done all this, and - most importantly - get that ring dismantled.

Pairing: Elijah Mikaelson x Reader

When you broke up with Elijah Mikaelson you'd expected many things from him. Disappointment, irritation or maybe even indifference. What you hadn't expected was his anger.

He didn't yell or argue, he simply narrowed his eyes and walked away. Every time he saw you after that he stared with a clenched jaw and sharp gaze. No words had been spoken between you since that night three weeks ago.

Now you were spending the evening with his siblings at Nik's request. After an hour or two, Elijah disappeared. Once you noticed, you rolled your eyes. Really. The man was a thousand years old and was acting like a toddler. Frankly you were tired of it.

"I'll be back," you told the hybrid.

He smirked and took a sip of his drink. "Take all the time in the world, love. None of us are going anywhere anytime soon."

You shook your head and left the room to head to Elijah's personal library. It was technically his study but there were far too many books for it to be anything other than a library.

You stepped into the room without knocking and shut the door behind you.

Elijah stood at one of the windows with a drink in his hand and his back turned toward you. "Why are you here?" he asked after a long beat of silence.

"Why are you so angry?"

His head snapped in your direction with a look of confusion on his face. "You can't be serious."

You arched a brow and shrugged.

His long strides ate up the space between you until he was standing right in front of you. "Perhaps you recall the ending of our relationship."

"Of course, but I don't see why you are upset about it. It's not as if you were invested in the relationship. I needed more. I told you that." What you didn't say is that you were head over heels in love with the man in front of you. That you had cried for weeks before finally ending the relationship.

Sure, he called you his girlfriend. He bought you trinkets and spent time with you when he could be bothered. And that was the problem. You were an afterthought. A woman that filled a role and the space by his side when he needed to keep up appearances. And it wasn't enough for you. Not anymore.

He pointed at you with the hand holding his glass. "Not invested? You think I wasn't invested?"

You just looked at him, uncertain what answer he was looking for.

He sighed and set his glass down on the table beside him. "This. This is why I am angry." He studied the floor for a moment before looking back up at you. "I am angry with myself for ever making you feel that way."

You sucked in a little breath, surprised at his words. He gave a sad smile and stepped forward, closing the distance between you. His hands cupped your face as he looked you over.

"You are the center of my universe. My entire being revolves around you and I am devastated for ever letting you believe that it doesn't." He licked his lips as his eyes darted down to yours before looking back up. "Please, please, come back to me and let me love you the way you deserve."

You saw nothing but sincerity in his eyes. "I love you so much, Elijah. But I can't do this if you don't love me the same. No more pushing me away. I won't survive the heartbreak a second time."

His lips pressed against yours in a hungry, desperate kiss. After a long moment, he pulled back only to lay his forehead against yours. "I swear to you, I will never give you reason to doubt me again."

When she finally walked into her room at the end of what should have been one of the longest days of her life - except that her name was Elena Gilbert and it seemed that could now be said of nearly every day - she just wanted to sleep.

Sleep and forget the past few days entirely.

Elena realized this was off the table as soon as she saw him. Elijah stood with his back to her, staring out her bedroom window.

She froze, hand clenching against the doorknob, a maelstrom of contradictory emotions hitting her at once.

Anger.

Sadness.

And most of all guilt, because there was just a little bit of relief there too.

She was relieved that he hadn't died; that his mother had failed; that Elijah had managed to save his family despite the cost. But as always, it had been Bonnie who had paid the price.

"I considered solely leaving a letter," Elijah said and Elena's eyes were drawn to the reflection of the envelope in his hands that she could see in the glass of her window.

Elena said nothing.

She swallowed, something sharp growing at the back of her throat. She thought about turning around and just... just leaving. But her feet didn't seem to want to obey and Elena found herself closing the door behind her instead.

"I am sorry, Elena, for what I did to you and to your friend today." Regret was heavy in Elijah's voice.

"That makes it all better, then," Elena whispered, bitterness heavy in the tone as she folded her arms in front of herself, fingers digging into her sides, trying to relieve the hurt that burned far deeper.

"It does not," Elijah admitted and turned to face her, putting the letter on the sill.

Her breath caught.

There was something strange about the expression on his face; about the way he ran his eyes over her like he was casting Elena into his memory as if-

"You're leaving," Elena said, suddenly numb.

It was only hours since he'd slammed down his foot and broke the earth beneath her feet. Why was it that this felt nearly the same?

Elijah crossed the room to her without reply and then slowly, - like he was giving Elena time to flinch or to evade him - he reached over to slide his fingers over the side of her face, brushing against her skin with near imperceptible lightness.

"A common mistake," Elijah said under his breath like he was suddenly speaking more to himself than Elena.

'And it's one I won't make again,' echoed words in Elena's memory.

She drew in a sharp breath.

Elijah's eyes sparked with rueful self-mockery before turning soft as his touch grew firmer - though no more constrictive, - the palm of his hand warm over her cheek, fingers resting against the bone behind her ear.

His dark brown eyes filled with an emotion Elena was too afraid to name, even though the swooping sensation in her stomach hinted at recognition.

"I will miss you, Elena," Elijah said and she felt his thumb moving to wipe away a tear before it could even fully form.

Her lips parted for words she wasn't even sure she knew.

They were not fated to meet the air in any case, because Elijah leaned forward, allowing his lips to glide over Elena's. Her eyes slid closed without permission, letting another tear free to wet her cheek.

A stinging taste of sorrow and out-of-reach starlight.

His kiss stayed feather-light, free of demand, and yet Elena couldn't quite make herself end it. Certain that once she did, Elijah would be gone before she could even open her eyes, and she wasn't sure she was quite ready for that, despite the anger that still waited for its turn for a spin.

Goodbye.

Elijah was saying goodbye.

There was a sharp tearing sensation inside her chest, only a small crack and yet utterly unexpected. When had Elena given Elijah a spot within her heart?

How had she not noticed it?

A wounded noise escaped her throat and Elena regretted it at once because Elijah seemed to take it as a request for him to stop. Their lips parted and Elena faltered in place, calming only when she felt his lips moving up to press between her brows.

She moved her hand over his chest, wrinkling the suit above it with her clenched fingers like keeping hold would stop him from leaving.

"Running won't fix things, Elijah."

"Would staying?"

Yes. She wanted to say but couldn't quite make herself, afraid that it would make her heart jump.

"I- I don't know," Elena said instead. Knowing that that was at least the truth.

Her hand moved in tandem with the deep breath of air Elijah inhaled. His nose against the crown of her head.

Her scent.

He was still putting her to memory.

The anger sparked.

"You're being a coward, Elijah." She pulled away from him, glaring fiercely now. Furious. And yet Elena's hand still clenched expensive fabric to keep him in place. "What's the plan? Kiss me, wait five hundred years, and tell my however-many-greats-granddaughter another tragic tale?"

It seemed she'd found just the words to trigger Elijah's anger too.

Good.

"I did not kiss you because of your face, Elena," Elijah snapped, eyes fiery.

"So everyone always says," her lips twisted, bile sharp on her tongue.

"I am not one of your Salvatores," there was an edge to his voice that sent an unwelcome thrill down Elena's back. "Your resemblance to Tatia and to Katerina is why I did not want to-"

"Do what? Complete the set?"

Hurt filled her chest cavity. Elena the copy. Or Elena the anti-copy. Elena the second chance at the previous version. A better Katherine. Or she supposed this time a living Tatia.

Elijah read her pain like a book, his anger vanishing into nothing. He placed his hand over hers.

"Elena Gilbert. You are the most compassionate person I have met in a thousand years. You are also the woman who once negotiated a deal with me from a position that should have given you nothing. You are the woman who drove a dagger through my heart, and then pulled it out. It is not the fact that you are a Doppelganger that made me kiss you tonight. It was everything else."

She stared at him, throat dry, feeling like she'd just been toppled by a powerful wave.

"So prove it," Elena choked out.

They continued to stare at each other as if she'd just thrown down the gauntlet and the next moment rested on a knife-sharp axis.

Her face firmed and she released her hold on his suit, it had been an illusion anyway, she couldn't make him stay if he didn't want to do so.

"Prove it!" she repeated. "Or leave!"

Elijah did not leave.

Do you see Klaus as an unreliable narrator in TO?

1000% yes.

He's a textbook narcissist so we have to remember everything he says comes from a place of being unable to look outside himself or to empathize with others. Which makes the entire narration of TO unreliable.

One example I can think of is when Elijah and Klaus are talking about Tatia (Elijah is also an unreliable narrator because he centers everything on Klaus. In my opinion due to guilt). We hear, and in TO see, how much Elijah cares for Tatia. But not really Klaus. We hear him and Elijah say Klaus loved Tatia, however, in the scenes in TO, Klaus essentially assaults Tatia by kissing her without even being concerned if she wants him to. Even when she pulls away from him, he just moves on. This isn't the actions of someone who is in love. And then when we see Tatia and Elijah interact, there is clearly some history. They have an ongoing flirtation. Yet, when Elijah and Klaus tell the story, it essentially focuses on their brotherly bond and less on Tatia. We don't hear how devastated Elijah was from her death, but how loving Tatia nearly broke their bond apart. Even when Elijah learns he was responsible for Tatia's death, instead of allowing him to feel that pain and grieve, he has to apologize to Klaus (and also deal with Klaus murdering his own father). Klaus doesn't react the way he did when he learned of what Elijah did to Aurora because he truly didn't care about Tatia. But he continues to push the narrative to center Elijah's past love interest around himself.

We see him do the same with Stefan in TVD, to the point where a large majority of the fandom believes Stefan and Klaus were romantically invovled despite being explicitly told that Rebekah and Stefan were invovled at the time. I'm not saying yes or no to either, but pointing out how the narrative impacts the viewers.

We also see this with how little emphasis the show puts on anyone that is not directly related to Klaus. Klaus is not the sole narrator of the show, but we can safely say it revolves around him. So characters like Aya, Celeste, Gia, Emil, etc. Their flashbacks are quick and just serve to explain how they know the Mikaelsons. Whereas, Klaus' love interest in the past, Aurora, gets exposition and depth through flashbacks.

The narration is told in a way that continues to victimize Klaus and brush aside his crimes. For example, when he lets Cami into his head to "scare her" and show her what a beast he is. He could show her endless slaughters, and that's just in the past year. He could show himself sacrificing a teenage girl or killing Jenna, stabbing his siblings, killing his mother, etc. But instead he shows himself turning for the first time and his family chaining him up to suppress his werewolf side. He doesn't even show the plethora of village people he just murdered which even scared Elijah. He only shows her what will create sympathy for him. We see this throughout their "talks." Even Cami calls him out on it multiple times for phrasing the story in a way that undermines how his siblings were feeling.

Contrast this to how Elijah's story is told. We already talked about Tatia and a lot of his exes. They are either explained very quickly and then moved on without allowing him/the audience time to grieve, or he they are handled through Klaus' POV so that their death's are justified/excused. But more than that, simply how his backstory is told, or Kol for that matter, is done in a less sympathetic light than Klaus.

We don't really see Elijah feed from people or murder without cause. That is up until the show decided to introduce the Red Door. This entire storyline is used to retcon Elijah as "the worse brother." But lets be honest, they've all killed so many people, why is Elijah killing seen as worse? Because they make it scary and bloody and it scares even the main characters. Whereas Klaus' trial is made to be humorous. The audience is supposed to laugh at Klaus forcing a girl to watch her mother burn alive because she was coughing too much. Even Klaus killing main characters like Carol are made to be humorous. They make Kol seem like this unhinged killer, but Klaus is the one who goes off and kills with him. When Kol does it, it's out of control. When Klaus does it, it's funny so their lives don't matter.

We see this with how the show treats Rebekah and her suitors. Rebekah is seen as naive because she keeps falling for the wrong people who take advantage of her. But Klaus is seen as compelling when he allows Caroline to manipulate him, to the point that it gets his brother killed. Or Aurora manipulate him to the point that it gets Rebekah kidnaped. Or Genevieve manipulate him to the point it gets Hayley killed and almost Hope. But when Klaus is manipulated, it's because he cares too much and the women took advantage of him. When it happens to Rebekah, it's because she's stupid and needs Klaus to make her decisions.

We see it in how Cami's transition is told. Cami is struggling throughout Season 3 but all Klaus sees is himself. To the point that when Cami snaps at him for pushing too far, the next scene is him killing a random art critic, essentially implying that it was her fault. She shouldn't have prioritized her own emotions and snapped at a grown man because he can't be responsible for his own actions.

TO thrives on Klaus being an unreliable narrator because it allows his misdeeds to be pushed to the back of the audience's mind and his victimization brought to the front. Even how he speaks about himself is unreliable. Initially, he blames Mikael for making him a monster. But then he learns his mother made him weak and blames her. But then he later blames Elijah for what he did to Aurora a year later. And throughout the show he blames all of his siblings for "abandoning" him when we never see a moment of them attempting to abandon him. Yes, I'm sure all of these things contributed, but the main point is that at no point does he blame himself. He never once takes accountability for his actions and no one ever makes him. Elijah and Rebekah attempt to several times, and lord knows Cami tried, but they are seen as unsympathetic in those moments through Klaus' eyes.
