The Nobleman or 양반 (yangban): The smiling face represents the bluff and composure that an aristocrat is often known to have. The chin is a separate piece from the top of the mask, and the actors can lean forward and back to make the mask smile or frown as needed.

This monk who abandons his doctrines, or 취발이 (chwibari): Chwibari was originally a monk, but he had no intention of joining the monastic order, so he came down to the world and wanders. Represented with a forehead full of wrinkles and spots.

The widow or, 부네 (Punae/bune): represented to be a widow, or a kisaeng ( a woman who sang, danced, or played an instrument to provide entertainment for company at a drinking party), or a mistress of the Yangban. My School President low-key has some of the best color-grading, lighting, and costuming of any GMMTV production. It's not showy, not composed like a painting. It's casual, vibrant, crisp, and character-driven.

Queer, too, but prosaically. Whereas Bad Buddy asserts its queerness by subverting BL tropes, MSP synthesizes queer techniques with those of BL, which shows up in the production. We get queer-associated neons (think the ITSAY series or cinematographer Rath) in one scene and, in the next, sun and candy-coated color as chaste as Cooking Crush. Gay little cardigans over Thai BL staple school uniforms and shorteralls for the beach. The fantasy of gayness and the familiarity of living out actual gay experiences merge, so there's little of the nostalgic vaseline filter on the lens. And there's depth to the blacks and shadows that make the colors stand out more, currents of deeper emotions in a comedic world. The contrast is not gritty. Rather, its clarifying. We get to be close and intimate with these characters, their fears and burgeoning feelings.

The production isn't there to tell the story itself, but to invite us up close to the conversations, faces, and silly dances without getting in the way of the laughs or the love. Clear eyes, full hearts, and such. A high-school comedy-musical with a production that sports its stumbling desire for a rainbow sincerely and unashamed, like the gay theater-kid energy its celebrating.

It's actually easy to unfuck because the way Redfin did it was by adding style overrides based on a particular className added to affected Dom elements (pretty smart for A/B rollout, tbh).

Lucky for me that makes it easy to put it back. You can do it too if you do this

I saw a discussion about the nuzi kiss and that awkward question on Glitch Inn and I'm giving my two cents on the matter

I was one of those who expected a kiss but never realistically thought there would be one on the show (and it turned out to be true) and I don't think that affects how their relationship was established at all. They are two awkward teenagers who aren't used to this type of relationship yet, to the audience (and even the characters) it's obvious that they're not platonic anymore but they only come to that conclusion in the final episode😭😭, so I feel like a kiss now would be so rushed with the way their relationship has progressed throughout the series

Not to mention that love isn't just shown with conveniently romantic things, how did you guys notice that they were practically touching each other the whole time in this episode? (holding hands, touching faces, scene in the credits where they are tangled up in bed, etc.) This shows their affection too and it is so much more special than a kissing scene that would only cater to the whims of the fanbase

Two traumatized robots thrown into ostracisme who found comfort in each other sjjnjccbhbbdbsnc this is so sweet and I love how their relationship is written, I think in the midst of so many drama we forget to appreciate the incredible work of character writing that this show has with so little time to develop them, how each one is special in their own way and their relationships and dynamics are a delight for any writer. Oh man nothing will replace the magic that md did to me, I will miss my two silly robots and eldritch threats

like he shows up in germany the first time like “if there’s time for it i’d love to catch a show while i’m here, germany has such a vibrant theatre scene”.

and edgeworth's like “absolutely we can make that happen, i believe there’s a major schiller production running at the moment and it should have english surtitles”.

and phoenix is like “oh yeah no i’m sure it’s really solid but actually there’s a shakespeare production i’m interested in”.

edgeworth is like “okay odd choice for someone supposedly interested in the german theatre scene, but yeah who can say no to shakespeare". but they get there and it turns out it's this like peak weird experimental avant-garde german theatre production of coriolanus that’s set in a bdsm club. for like four hours edgeworth keeps looking over at phoenix like “what in the actual fuck is happening right now right now” but no matter what is happening onstage, phoenix just keeps watching it intently, finger pressed to his lips, the same pensive furrow to his brow that he gets in court when listening to testimony.

but afterwards when they're sipping their after-show aftercare tea in the lobby phoenix is waving his arms all over the place as he's like “SUCH an effective use of consent! the way they just continually wove it into everything. the almost brechtian emersion it created. the way it laid bare the underlying themes around consent of the governed. and then tying that in with the obvious angle of the performative masculinity of militarism and an audience that demands to be played to, and drawing the comparison between that and both bdsm AND theatre itself. an obvious comparison of course, but SO well done! just wow!"

and edgeworth who still hasn't quite managed to process anything beyond that first moment when coriolanus walked onstage in full leather daddy get-up and has a white-knuckled death grip on the after-show aftercare blanket wrapped around his shoulders just nods weakly and croaks out a vague “i'm glad you enjoyed it”

like he's gotta be into weird and experimental theatre. he can't have been a theatre major and NOT be into weird and experimental theatre. sure he'll go see the schiller production and enjoy it, but bdsm coriolanus is what gets his Theatre Kid blood pumping, y'know.

tbh I feel like it says a lot about me that I had a conversation with a TTRPG editor in which I said out loud with my mouth, "We need to introduce the concept of mise-en-scène into our conversations and commentary on actual play. It'll make us all more obnoxious. Like, yeah, we'll start having conversations about what the elements of the production design contribute to the tone and narrative of the work instead of just talking about production values and polish, but mostly it'll make us all even more unbearably obnoxious. We should do it."

I'm been doing a 'beginners guide to Cats productions' and its very funny because truly some productions are really not *that* remarkable on their own merits and have only become notable within the fandom because footage for that production is very accessible (ie on youtube)

So I'm doing rundowns on the most notable/popular productions and some of them are like 'changed X element to what its known as today, first usage of Y element ever in Cats, featured A, B, and C well-known cast members' and some of them are like 'it certainly exists'
