last week I also bought A deal with the elf king by @elise.kova from @amazonae which I'm already half way through and loving!

and yes I know I've already read Josh and Gemma make a baby but it's an amazing book and I just had to own a copy!

after reading The Bargainer series and absolutely loving it I had to get my hands on the Four Horsemen series by @laurathalassa I'm quite excited to read it!

also a special thank you to @magrudys for making the order process so much easier although the 3 week wait ended me. the fact that most of my books cannot be found in bookstores here is always shocking so I'm thankful I can always order with their US suppliers and collect from the store.

okay in real life I am so skeptical of arranged marriage/relationships of convenience, but in fiction? when it is combined with enemies to lovers or some other complication?

the awkwardness, the tip-toeing around each other, the but you're my husband/wife/spouse, the expectations, the friendship and companionship, the meddling family members/friends, the trust, the OH, the yearning, the moment when the singular OH becomes a mutual OH, the giddy happy moment when they realize it all worked out, and both have Os, the first i love you months into marriage

when done well it's lovely and undeniably sweet and i just can't get enough of it

First time I saw King Eldas in that cover I thought "He looks so much like Melkor" and when I started reading I noticed they only addressed him as "Elf King" so I kept calling him Melkor but now I know how different they are !!

Eldas is like a lonely puppy who wants love but doesn't think he deserves it and can be really gentle and warm also he's a twink (my opinion)

I re-read Deal with the Elf King earlier this year, and I really enjoyed it a lot more the 2nd time around. In fact, it's now one of my favorites, and something that will probably be on my annual reread list <3 It's such a fun fantasy romance take on Hades/Persephone, and even a little bit of Beauty and the Beast (which I am always a sucker for). Anyway, here is the Elf King himself probably wondering where his betrothed is, before she realizes who she is.

i was really excited to get to this book because it kept reappearing on my instagram feed! the book also advertises itself towards those who like the acotar series by @sjmaas​ , so i thought i would give it a read!

despite this novel’s extremely slow start, i enjoyed it. the most intriguing part of the novel was the complexity of the world. there were many different parts to it: the natural world, midscape, the veil, the beyond, and the fade. in addition, there were many species occupying the world developed by kova, ranging from humans to vampires. i hope we get to explore more of this world in book 2!

what could have made this book stronger for me would have been to write it in the third person and include alternating perspectives. i grew tired of luella’s character, as she felt very childish and her thoughts were very repetitive (my town payed for my schooling, i need to stop the cycle, etc.). i would have also liked to have seen things from eldas’ perspective because i found him to be a strong character.

i also wished there was more romance. the slow burn was a little too slow for me and i wished kova had included more of those cottage scenes. there was little chemistry and i expected more from a work advertising itself to an acotar audience.

all in all, i’m glad i got around to reading this book! it is very reminiscent of the myth of hades and persephone. i am excited to explore more of kova’s work and get my hands on “a dance with the fae prince” (the second book in the series) in august!

what's a book that you really wanted to pick up this year?

for me it was A Deal with the Elf King by @elisekova

this is probably one of the prettiest books ever, I opened the first page and was already mesmerized cuz each and every page is stunning!

one word. worldbuilding. my mind is shook. if you're a person who fancies worldbuilding more than romance you will love this. I, on the other hand love my romance and I was constantly wishing there were more moments between Eldas and Luella. but I must say the moments between them that we got were quite sensual and lovely enough that I was appeased.
