“What… what is happening?” The snow spirit looked around, it was dark and he was alone, which was impossible since not a minute ago he was fighting alongside with his fellow ayakashi friends, supposedly they had won, the sorcerer was defeated and unconscious, until she wasn’t and she shot _______ an unknown spell, Yuki had just put himself in front of her a split second before, he didn’t regret it but still, he was worried and he wanted to see ______’s face so much….

“Yuki! Yukinojo! Please! Please wake up! You can’t do this to me! Please!” that was ______’s voice, it sounded so far away and at the same time it seemed to come from all around him

“We got him, ______, we’ll take him to the shrine for now” and that was Kyoga’s voice who appeared to be calm yet worried

“______! Kyoga! Can you hear me?!” he screamed, hoping to get a response but the only thing he got was silence for what he thought was more than a minute, which was unnerving, to say the least

“What is happening to him Samon?!” ______ sounded even more panicked than before

“I… I don’t know, I don’t know what type of magic is this, he is alive for now but I can’t…. I can’t sense his presence” the home spirit said with concern which, Yukinojo could share because… where was he?

“But… that can’t be! He is right here Samon! How can you not feel him?” ______ sounded quite distressed

“His state is similar in what you could call when a human enters a coma” Yukinojo could hear the sharp breath of the girl “For obvious reasons we can’t take him to a hospital”

“There’s gotta be something we can do!” there was a moment of silence, where the snow spirit almost start panicking

“For now… let’s take him to the yokai village, let’s see if they have something useful for this situation”

But as it turned out, the elders couldn’t do much, it was ancient magic from a species of Ayakashi that was almost extinct, Kyoga, Miyabi, Chikage and Shinra split to look for that clan while Yuki’s body stayed on his clan house

“______, I promise you that I’ll get out, I’ll promise I’ll found you so…. Will you wait for me?” he whispered to the unclear reflect of ______ looking down to his own body

“Where are you Yuki?” she sounded pained, he could actually see her now, ______ was right next to his body playing with his hair

“I don’t know” he answered as if she could hear him

“Are you lost? Samon says it might be the case, that maybe if I keep talking to you, you will be able to find us” she seemed hopeful but at the same time the despair was visible in her eyes “Will you be able to find us Yuki? Are you searching for us right now? We are here, we are here Yuki, we are waiting for you…” _______’s eyes watered at the lack of response, Yukinojo wanted to do the utmost to take that look from her and replace it with one of her beautiful smiles, but…

“I… don’t know how to get out” he admitted, the yukibito didn’t know how long had been since the fight, but ______’s hair was longer and she seemed thinner and tired, he could bet that she wasn’t sleeping or eating properly because of her worry, so probably a couple of months? His heart panged at the thought of her suffering all that time

“Please Yuki, come back, I need you, I miss you, we all do….” She held a sob, a few tears slipped of her eyes, she dried them and breathed to ten, then added in a bad attempt of a more light tone “You still own me a date, how long are you going to keep me waiting?”

“You can’t do this Miyabi” Kyoga’s angry voice sounded in the darkness waking Yuki up, it wasn’t like he needed to, he didn’t actually felt physical exhaustion, but he was tired of trying to find a way out without any result, it was frustrating and infuriating, to say the least

“I don’t know what are you talking about” the kitsune answered, yet his tone was defensive

“You can’t fool me as you did with everyone else, I’ve seen how you look at her, you gave her your precious inari sushi for god’s sake” in another circumstance that could be amusing to see, now, knowing that exact piece of information filled Yukinojo with jealousy

“I just want to be there for her Kyoga, it has been almost a year, Yuki doesn’t wake up, nobody knows what to do and she is all alone”

“And you are going to be the one who comforts her”

“Well, I wish I was!” Miyabi snapped, then he sighed “I can’t do it, I know, I wish I could though, I wish I could take her tears away, dry them and replace them with a smile, but I can’t do it… she loves him! if I do anything like that I’m just going to hurt her, you think I don’t know that? She has given us so much, and I just-”

“I know, I know how you feel, I hate seeing her sad too” the way Kyoga said it hurt Yuki, it had sounded like the wolf also felt something for her more than friendly feels, what the hell was going on? “The only thing we can do is find a way to bring Yuki back, that’s the only way we know for sure that she’ll be completely happy”

“I know, I just…” Kyoga puts a hand on Miyabi’s shoulder, both of them look dejected, the yukibito looks at his friends bitterly; he knows they are doing their best to help him and take care of ______, but...

“I need to go back” he whispers to the nothing that surrounds him before start walking again

Useless, his efforts to find a way out were completely useless, he tried to follow her voice, but everywhere he went was the same pitch-black nothing. Frustrated, he looked at ______’s reflection, she was next to his body, like many times before, she was caressing his hair, she had bags under her eyes and a vacant stare, Yukinojo wanted to cry seeing her like that, but it was her words that ultimately broke his heart

"You always said how you were scared of the day I'd die and leave you, but you didn't know about how I felt the same, sometimes, when you and the guys went on a mission, I'd stay behind and pray to the gods to let you come back safe and now..." her voice was barely a whisper, her tears fell from her eyes, she couldn't contain the pain on her voice "I've tried everything!, I want to give you my power, I tried to give you my blood, yet nothing works! What should I do? What can I give you so you'll find your way back to me? I would gladly give my life for you if that means you come back!" _______ started to sob uncontrollably on Yuki's chest, whispering in the dim room "I just... I don't want this life if you are not in it"

Yukinojo felt like crying too

“No ______, please don’t think like that, what would I be without you? You taught me how to love again, I can’t… I would not bear to lose you too, please” Yuki begged to the reflection, knowing that she couldn’t hear him, but trying nonetheless, maybe… just maybe, if he tried hard enough, she would be able to listen to him. It wasn’t the case

“You can’t tell her” he heard another conversation nearby, probably just Miyabi and Samon chatting

“I know”

“If she knows this, she would want to try it immediately and she could…”

“I know! I’ll lookout for something else” Yuki didn’t pay much attention, his mind and heart were focusing on ______ only

"You know something" ______ said accusingly, Samon stayed still, the others, except for Miyabi, looked between the two of them curiously, Yuki looked up from his spot in the darkness to the reflect that appeared out of nothing

"I haven't found anything of importance" the house spirit said a bit nervous

"Don't lie to me!" She snapped, hitting the table with her fists, her eyes watered because of the emotion, Yukinojo had never seen an outburst like this from her “I saw them, Samon, I saw the ancient writings about my lineage”

“______, I-“ his probable excuse was interrupted

“Why you didn’t tell me about the ritual to cross over worlds?!” she demanded a bit harshly

“It’s too dangerous” he answered, Yuki looked between the two of them puzzled, and apparently, he wasn’t the only one

“Wait, what the hell is going on?” Shira intervened with a look of confusion on his face

“Care to explain to the rest of us, you two?” Chikage look at both of them

“There’s a way we could bring Yuki back” ______ explained with a frown

“Seriously?!” Kyoga and Shinra looked surprised, Chikage as well, but didn’t say anything

“In exchange for her life!” Miyabi added barely containing himself

“What?” Yuki blurt out, despite knowing they wouldn’t hear him

“That’s not true!” she raised from her seat and glared at the kitsune

“It might as well be” he answered back

“So what if it is?!” she was head-butting with Miyabi now

“Guys, guys, stop arguing” Kyoga tried to stop the unusual fight “Now, what happened? Samon?” the home spirit, sigh and proceed to explain

“There’s a ritual, that allows the host of the special blood to travel among worlds, and to summon certain creatures, in this case Yuki’s spirit, but it is especially dangerous, as it requires a massive amount of blood for it to work, and even then we are not sure that it will”

“It’ll work!” ______ sounded confident

“We don’t know that” Miyabi interject and a flare of jealousy appeared on Yuki’s chest at the protective glared that the kitsune gave to his girlfriend, not that he wasn’t grateful at his friend for trying to keep said girlfriend from danger

“We have to try!” she kept pushing, Samon looked concerned and try to reason with her, only to be interrupted

“______ just wait a little longer, we can find other-“

“NO! I’m sick of waiting, it’s been almost two years and nothing’s changed! You keep telling me is like a human in a coma but is not! This is magic stuff! Meaning that just waiting won’t solve anything! I’m done waiting, I’ll bring Yuki home, and I’m going to do it with or without you” everyone stayed silent, they knew the girl was stubborn, especially when she wanted to, but this was a whole new level, her eyes glowed with determination “If you won’t help me I will go to the Yukibito’s clan, I’m sure they will gladly help me bring their clan head back” she crossed her arms, her position was final, she looked tired, malnourished, and not healthy at all, yet she had a look on her face that seemed to scream ‘try to stop me, I dare you’, which was all kinds of intimidating. Yuki knew that they didn’t have a choice, still, he wanted to stop Samon’s next words

“Alright, but I have conditions”

The ritual was programmed to take place the next full moon, which would give them time to a) make sure ______ was healthy enough to stand it, b) To get her type of blood in case something went wrong and c) To try to find another solution, of course they couldn’t, the sorcerer that had cursed Yukinojo had been the last one of her clan, so, when the night of the ritual came, the others couldn’t do anything to stop ______ from her mission

“_______ please! Please don’t go through this!!” no matter how much Yuki yelled, she couldn’t hear him, no that she would’ve stop otherwise, and so, she proceeded to cut her palms without hesitation, the blood started to flow, quickly she began to draw a circle and runes inside it as needed; just as Samon said, it was a great amount of blood, which seemed to glow under the pale, bright moon. When she completed the symbols, her power exploded making a portal beneath her, on the other side there was nothing but darkness, Yuki tried to look everywhere to see if _______ appeared in the nothingness that surrounded him; she looked at the head clans deadly serious

“If I don’t make it back… don’t give up on Yuki” was the last thing she said before her spirit crossed over to look for Yukinojo, the man who had given everything to protect her and the one she would give her life to save

open ending cause I couldn’t decide if I wanted a good ending or an angst one
