Looking back at 2024 writings~ ✍️

Thought I'd have my own go at those "a year in art" things that artists do! I wrote something every month this year! Usually multiple somethings. There were a lot of fan events, huh. Here are the highlights... (The underlined things are links btw)

January: 🧪���🐍 supervised sex for science

This fic was way more popular than my average! The perks of not writing about GaruKaru... but evidently that allure did not hold me back for the rest of the year lmao I wrote this for a 2023 secret santa, but the deadline was until January and I only started in January, so it counts. I had fun with the fic, even though it's a bit outside of the 'written for sexual gratification' zone I usually go for.

February: 🐺🦈🎁🐺 Blade b-day bonanza

For the Blade birthday fanweek, I wrote this story wherein Garu and Karu give him a cute present. Then they fuck (unrelated). The main thing I like about this in retrospect is how I depicted Karu somehow failing to top someone who is clearly ok with doing whatever he says. さすがカイルくん...

March: 🐺❄️🐺 c'est le pupcest

I wrote it in response to a prompt in the Kink Meme, but also gifted it to Sungel because Sungel had been asking for something like this for a while and I would feel really smug if they were the anon who submitted the prompt but alas that they were not. Anyway. Garu's separation anxiety in Frozen Echoes sure was something, huh? Kink-wise, I love the 'wrestling for dominance' trope and I love the idea of Garu going along with it just to humor Karu but somehow winning.

April: 🌈😈🐺 Morvay madness

One of my Morvay week contributions! I also did one for Karu/Morvay but that was less popular. I'm very fond of both anyway. Morvaru, my beloved...! I will continue to be your only prophet. Really hoping 2025 will bring us more Morvay content in general. Anyway, Garu gets to stick his little thing in someone again in this story and that's neat. Have I made Garu top more frequently than Karu lol

April was also a month in which I wrote quite a lot of my problematic original spanking-focused fics, hm. There was the bunny boys story, the mechanical boy, a new chapter of Smitten, and the prince/slaves fic!

May: 🌈🐺/🦊🐺 good master bad master

This is one of my Kuyaru Week pieces! Hugely inspired by that Ray drawing of Karu getting a hairbrush hiding from Kuya (which was in turn inspired by me of course, our relationship is beautiful). I thought it would be fun to compare Eiden brushing Garu's tail to Kuya 'brushing' Karu's tail. I was right, it was fun. Karu getting spanked will always do it for me. I also had Kuya turn him into a bunny that month, which was darker but also fun. A bit of strangulation for my good friend and editor who deserves such treats (do you see how beautiful our relationship is).

June: 🌈🪦 he died as he lived,

The first of many drabbles I'd submit to nuflashfic's Drabbles for the Birthday Boy(s) challenges. Writing these drabbles is quite fun. I get to make something really quick and dirty but still feel a sense of accomplishment. I think they're also a good creative exercise in figuring out which words actually matter. I managed to fit so many characters in this first one!

July: 🧪🐺 guilt-ridden medicinal dogfucking

This was written for the Rei zine! I knew that I wanted to write Reiaru for that project (see here), but Rei and GaruKaru's backstory was still nebulous when it began. I waited and waited, hoping that we'd get some elaboration, and boy did we! I ended up leaning into Rei's sense of duty in taking care of Garu, even though that kind of sentimentalism isn't much my cup of tea. This story inspired a very talented Chinese artist to draw this amazing piece, which is still crazy to me.

July is also the month of Human Quality, and Kuya/Quincy/GaruKaru which might be my best work.

August: 🐺☀️🐺🦀 can't meme this any harder

For the Dante zine, Sunkissed! Turns out that pairing the least popular characters in a not very evocative scenario doesn't go over so well, hits-wise. Whatever man, I got a crab fight scene. There's even art of it in the zine, drawn by contacthigh, whose dantaru pitches led me to the whole concept actually. I enjoy the instances of "Karu gets irrationally annoyed at Dante's use of magic to solve problems" in this story. Also the dogs being cluelessly sexy.

August is also when we started the Everyone/Garu anthology! I wrote the Dante chapter, then the Blade chapter, then the Morvay chapter, and edited all of the others. I'm very proud of that fic; three minds turned to a singular purpose... dogfucking 😌 we accomplished much.

September: 🦊🐺♀️ lesbian yaoi...?!

I had to see if I could... it seems that I can. My preferred flavor of humiliation transcends gender barriers to some extent, apparently. This year I lowkey found some latent bisexuality within me; I blame the gyaru bratty uke in that "Fucked by my best friend" manga.

October: ☀️🦇🏖️ bikini Aster, your honor

For Daster Week! I know that people are generally more interested in getting their bottom Dante / subverted expectations fix from daster, but I like bottom Aster too. I enjoy the dynamic of Aster being very manipulative and weaponizing his cuteness to push Dante around. This fic was inspired by that incredible fanart I'm happy to have boosted. Not enough people are sexualizing the cute boys to my taste in this game and I will continue working to change that. That sounded wrong but tbh it's meant that way.

November: 🦇🐺🍣🥢forever snacking on Karu

November was a busy, busy month with Wolves Week 2024! Apparently I only have a couple drabbles, since most of my effort went into writing the Morvay chapter and editing the Karu chapter of Project F.T.D. But I had to put out at least a little something for astaru! And continue consolidating my paralysis fetish...

December: 🐺🐍🌡️ shivering snake shenanigans

My contribution to this year's Advent Calendar, finally some proper yakaru from me! I love Karu being fussy (and failing to top, of course). Yakumo disastrously losing control of his urges is always good too. Though funnily enough, I'd rather see both of them be dommed and frustrated at the same time. Neither of these boys should top. Kuya please--

Closing thoughts

This was a year in which I got more "serious" about writing, starting around September or so. I don't want to be a professional writer (being forced to 'create' is something that I dread and the main reason I decided to quit academia this year!), but I'm starting to make a career out of editing/proofreading, in addition to my translation work. And it's kind of crazy how much fic-writing and beta reading have helped me hone essential skills for that field!

It has also been a year of liberation, in the sense that I started out still quite nervous about exposing the depths of my particular depravities. As the new year approaches, I realize I'm quite different now; I have no problem listing out the specific things that most appeal to me in smut, or shamelessly hitting those same buttons over and over and over in my writing. I'm fueled and encouraged by the kudos and comments from people who are almost always there for it 💛 Thank you for always being in my morning AO3 e-mails.

For 2025, I want to go back through my older fics and give them minor makeovers; fixing some jank, standardizing punctuation, that kind of stuff. I also want to give closure to the non-oneshot fics that aren't finished. But mostly I want to keep joining fan events and giving myself anxiety over deadlines, because I love looking back at everything later and seeing some impact on the fandom. It's neat. It's kind of like having a social life.

I might branch out into Noctilucent and Jock Studio fics in 2025 too, in addition to my sporadic and, uh, specialized original work.

So I was kinda right about the "odd-one-out feelings," just not in the way I expected...

Fuck, dude. This is so relatable in the worst way.

For one thing, I can hardcore-relate to being super happy and energetic one moment, and then BOOM! Out of nowhere, I start feeling horrifically sad. (Espresso Depresso, amirght gang?)

For another, I definitely relate to getting sudden/rude reminders of childhood trauma---which, I feel like most people don't acknowledge, can be very "mundane." Not all traumatic memories are action-filled or dramatic. Sometimes, it's as simple as being the last person left at school; and the feeling of loneliness while you watch everyone else go home....

This is just another testament to how well-written Eiden is.

He feels way more real than other game-protagonists.

With Blade so close, it was too easy for Olivine to relax into his arms, the priest resting his head against the e-droid's fluffy bangs. The feeling of his slightly cold, yet pleasant body against Oli's-- which was easy to overheat-- was simply blissful.

Saved a story and Eiden’s wonderful charm!

Sela Wyssrael: "It's true, this is my first festival such as this, but stories, stories are universal."

Sela Wyssrael: "I'd like to thank you all for the honor of being able to share this one with you."

Sela Wyssrael: ||The small Keeper takes careful steps across the stage to settle herself at the center. She sits on her heels and places a small stack of colorful paper at her knees. Sela Wyssrael: ||She begins her tale in a clear voice, her motions carry a stillness to keep the audience’s attention on the story she would unfold using the subtlest of elemental aethers. Sela Wyssrael: “This is the story of two brothers who where close until troubled times befell them and they fought to decide which would lead their village.”

Sela Wyssrael: || She holds up two folded paper figures of the brothers and with a small burst of air from her palm they spin and battle each other.

Sela Wyssrael: "They fought to a standstill and neither would yield.” The paper figures flutter to the ground. Sela Wyssrael: “One brother took his followers to the sea..."

Sela Wyssrael: "But this is not their story.” With a flick of her wrist a small mountain scene rises from the stack of colorful papers.

Sela Wyssrael: “This is the story of the brother who took his people to the mountains where they shrouded themselves in the clouds and lived peacefully for many, many years.”

Sela Wyssrael: “Within this village there was always a priestess tasked with creating the swirling clouds that kept the village hidden from the outside world.”

Sela Wyssrael: || Another small puff of air from her palm and the figure of a priestess stood among the clouds, arms outstretched, and face tilted to the sky. Sela Wyssrael: || Her voice turned grave and flat.

Sela Wyssrael: "Until it was not."

Sela Wyssrael: "And a hell of fire and metal rolled through and the village was no more. Its people scattered like ashes in the wind.”

Sela Wyssrael: “Even if you feel you have no history of your own, you are creating it everyday." Sela Wyssrael: "The home of my friends may no longer stand, but they do and are creating their own stories here and now!"

Sela Wyssrael: || Bright paper flowers burst into bloom around her and spin like the clouds from the story between her upturned palms. Sela Wyssrael: || The blossoms float and flutter among the listeners.

Sela Wyssrael: “I am honored that they would include me in this new history they are creating.”

Sela Wyssrael: || She holds aloft a single petal that begins to spin and petal by petal becomes a beautiful chrysanthemum. Sela Wyssrael: “That’s the power we all have, our stories that bridge distance and time.” Sela Wyssrael: “That’s the duty of storytellers, to pass on other’s stories so they may live on, eternal.”

Sela Wyssrael: || She bows with a smile. "Thank you for allowing me to share this with you."

Eiden Seitsurugi let out a little wistful sigh, she had a feeling a heavy burden was carried by the former. She bowed to Jancis, "how may I assist you, miss?"

Jancis Milburga bows to Eiden, "Good eve, Lady. I had been watching your work before the stories. You are quite kind to attend to so many these bells. If I could, I ask you for a charm."

Eiden Seitsurugi: "Of course, do you have a specific desire? Wards against ill-fortune, for luck in travel, or for clarity in certain pursuits?"

Jancis Milburga furrows her brow thoughtful for some time, "I do not know. I am a visitor and still learning this colorful land. I have a daughter now. New to the world. Her life will be difficult and in light of that I had a charm bracelet made for her to help her should she become lost that guides back to people she can rely on."

Jancis Milburga: "I wish it for her and I would rely on your insight to choose one."

Eiden Seitsurugi: "Certainly." Eiden took a step back. Her own wrist was bound with a string of prayer-beads carved from jade and petrified wood. She looked to the crystalline pieces she had gathered as well as the silk. The young woman began to unravel the strips of cloth and twine them once more for a fine thread. "How old is your child?"

Jancis Milburga answers Eiden with a soft warm awestruck tone, "A moon nearly. I travel far and quickly to only be gone shortly."

Eiden Seitsurugi focused her aether on the pieces of crystal. It had a gentle shine, and she took a small tool from her bags of belongings to begin to shape it into a bead. Close examination would find that it was jade. Once the bead was smoothed, she prepared eleven others. Only the first was threaded, however. "Each moon that passes, set another of these charms along the silk cord. The final one should be set for her first year, an auspicious date."

Jancis Milburga leans forward on her feet, watching intently as she listens, looking back up to Eiden. Her mouth opened, eyes wide at the touching gift. She repeats the instructions quietly. "I shall do this, Lady. Without fail."

Eiden Seitsurugi: "The river spirits are kind to new mothers, I have been told." Eiden set the charm in a small bag and handed it to Jancis with both hands. "Meditate to them, and leave an offering when you have time. Please, travel safely."

Jancis Milburga reaches to Eiden's hands with both of hers to squeeze them gratefully as she takes the bag. "Thank you, Lady. May the Twelve with the kami ever be close you."

Here’s how the story ends:

Some say that Sir Ark, empowered by the extra kissing, directly blasts Mary Sue and Duke Octavius out of the building before ascending to the Heavens. Except it’s not angels who pick him up, but a spaceship, and the story ends with a pseudo alien abduction that lets the two lovers tour the universe forever.

Some say that Duke Octavius, listening to the cheat-like skills of his mistress, unlocks another level of power and tries to decimate EIDEN outright, only for Ark to take the fatal blow and fall in his beloved’s arms. Before he dies, he coaxes the maid to draw closer and reveals a little secret: “Actually, my powers were already unsealed when we held hands. I just wanted to kiss you…for my own selfish reasons.”

Some say that Mary Sue brainwashed everyone and merged them into her harem before going to a Nu-er Carnival to have more fun, while others argued that EIDEN successfully took back reins of the story and erased her existence entirely. 

All endings are valid, since this was a Choose Your Own Adventure (sort-of) story after all. But as for our heroes…

Blip.

Right as Ark’s about to take his last stand, the phone screen goes dark. Mary Sue helpfully taps it for Eiden’s sake, but nothing happens.

“Oh, I’m outta battery.”

“I guess I’ll bring a portable charger next time.”

“So what’d you think of the beta test? Pretty rad, right?”

“ ...huh? “

Eiden feels like he’s been returned¨from somewhere far far away, like he has a weird hangover. Maybe even from space, though admittedly the last thing he saw was the two facing off. Almost like Ark had actually been there he’s certainly feeling something. 

But talking to Mary Sue drops him to reality faster than ever, maybe because she’s always kind of out there, floating up in her own delusions. Looking at the screen Eiden feels kind of annoyed now, getting all swept by the weird fantasies out there.

“ Immersive? “

Technically it was weird as hell but Ark was hot and felt kinda real so he has to admit he didn’t hate it. He’ll definitely remember that.

Damn, Rei is so pretty....

And it's always nice to see Rei looking more relaxed. The bond between him and Garu is part of it, but as a whole, his character development is helping him to loosen up with everyone and express affection. We love to see it!

Are they really certain he'll be able to focus on the competition and not the competitors (you know what I mean)?

I don't think I've commented on it yet, but that hair style is very cute on him!!! I'm a big fan of the hair-half-up style in general---it suits literally everyone!!!

Watch a segaki ritual be performed by the Sasori Shayou-Dera. Join in the Obon Dori led by miko Eiden Seitsurugi. And send off your lanterns down the One River led by a Suiren Shrine.
