In a quiet way, unwind, doin' Christmas right this time

Delivering presents is one thing, but what happens after? The Guardians all know. A short reprieve of the work (and tricks) done for the holiday brings the time to focus on relaxing - if North can focus on that and the thousand other things that Christmas brings. Luckily, Bunny is there to help North with the fallout of Christmas.

For prompt number 35, “North/Bunny. Post Christmas, having to deal with the fallout of the busiest day of the year.” Hope you like it!

Fic under cut! 

The sleigh skidded into place as North landed back home after a long Christmas night. He hopped out, shouting orders to the yeti and elves that circled them. 

Another successful year. The other Guardians got out of the sleigh. Jack and Sandy talked about how they had totally obliviously won their improv competition against the others, to see how many presents they were able to deliver. Bragging rights seemed to make all the difference. 

They couldn’t beat North, he was exempt from the competition for obvious reasons, but they had beaten Bunny and Tooth. Bunny wagged a finger at Jack, narrowing his eyes. 

“Just wait,” he threatened. “You won’t be bragging for long.”

North looked back at him. They locked eyes, a smile on North’s face. Bunny’s ears twitched, relaxing as his face softened. 

The yetis ushered them out of the room. North quickly grabbed his sack as they left. Bunny walked beside him, a paw brushing against North’s arm. 

“Do you need any more help?” He asked, watching the others in front of them laugh. They were still energetic, buzzing with excitement comparable to the children they swore to protect. 

“We’ve still got a few more presents,” North replied, intertwining his fingers with Bunny’s. 

“Ours,” Bunny said, smirking. “What did you get me this year?” 

North raised an eyebrow, smiling at Bunny. 

“All in due time.” Bunny shook his head. 

They all had voted a long time ago to have Christmas morning to themselves. It was always a sentimental and enjoyable time. One that unfortunately fell out of practice. They got busy, always promising next year. 

When Pitch attacked, North put his foot down. Christmas would be spent together. 

Jack’s laughter and Sandy’s dreamsand echoed throughout the silent workshop. The yetis were with their families tonight. North normally had to usher a few out, as they tried to make their kids the most perfect gift, being more critical than North could ever be. He already gave them their ‘Santa’ gifts, but the yetis always went above and beyond for their own. But luckily, only Phil was nearby, taking the earliest of the security shifts. He’d be replaced by Micheal later, just in time to make it to his family’s feast. Micheal would’ve already had his. 

The excitement of the night was slowly wearing down in North. It had been a busy night. Jack threw a snowball at Bunny, which he returned with throwing an egg full of dreamsand at him. Tooth ended up adopting some of Jack’s mischief and replaced Sandy’s presents with empty tooth containers. Sandy ended up throwing dreamsand at her but hit North instead. 

It was safe to say that they did not beat their record from 2012 when they all worked to get it done as quickly as possible. 

Those lights still shined brightly. More, now that Christmas was here. North felt the waves of new and old belief soar in his belly. He was overflowing with belief. He could just imagine the earliest batch of children, with eyes full of wonder, unwrapping their presents and laughing with delight. 

Bunny’s hand tightened in his, a soft smile on his face. North gave his hand a squeeze, satisfied as Bunny clearly resisted jumping as his happiness got a bit overwhelming. 

North worked extra hard for Bunny’s present this year. It was a new paintbrush set, complete with pookan engravings that clued into who exactly it was for. Bunny’s old set was wearing down, and he’d been borrowing the yeti’s brushes in order to preserve it. North had also given him a box for preserving his set, perfect for keeping alive the traditions of his people. 

But that was for later. He wondered what Bunny had gotten him.

They approached the study, opening the thick wooden doors. Jack ran to the tree, dropping his gifts that he must’ve stored somewhere in the room under the tree. They were smaller in size, contrasting last year when he gave everyone unmelting ice sculptures. Tooth’s presents were already under the tree. Sandy and Bunny hadn’t brought theirs in, but North knew that they wanted to give North the ‘Santa’ treatment that he gave those kids. It also meant they had the biggest presents and that Sandy was going to deliver them as he gave the children one last round of good dreams before dozing off for the night. 

North unloaded the presents, setting them against the presents. 

“Alright. Syrniki tomorrow? Or will we be having classic pancakes like I have suggested for years now?” Jack asked, swinging his staff to point at North. Bunny chuckled, shaking his head. 

“Americans.” 

Jack frowned and pointed his staff at Bunny. 

“Pew.” 

Bunny yelped, the frost attacking his fluffy tail. Jack grinned. Tooth rolled her eyes, smiling slightly. Sandy was already dozing off. North laughed, patting Jack’s back. 

“Tomorrow’s breakfast will be delicious, I can promise you that.” 

Their rooms were quiet and oddly, chaos-free. Bunny had beat him to the warmest spot on the bed already. North shrugged off his coat, smiling at him. 

It was obvious that tonight, he wouldn’t use his own bedroom that North oh so lovingly made for him, but wanted to hog all of North’s warm blankets. 

“I don’t know how you’re still standing,” Bunny yawned. “I’m tuckered out.” 

“Well, you see, my sweet, Christmas is an important day of the year. Some would say the most important. This is why I’m still up.” 

Bunny threw a pillow at him. It hit North’s stomach, bouncing on the floor.

“Stop gloating and come here.” 

North slid next to Bunny, wrapping his arms around him. Bunny made a satisfied hum, his ears twitching as he shifted in North’s arms. 

He was soft, naturally. North could smell nature on him, waves of tulips and ferns and earth calming North down. It was hard not to be excited tonight, but with his beloved in his arms, it seemed to be easy. As long as he didn’t think about those cheerful excited faces. Bunny nudged him, bringing him back to reality. 

“Hey. I see you. Don’t try to sneak off to see their reactions as they open up presents.” 

“I wasn’t thinking of that.” 

Bunny raised an eyebrow. 

“Sure.” 

Bunny’s arm snaked across his back, a small purring noise coming from him. 

“Comfortable?” North asked, smirking. 

Bunny nodded, his fur rubbing against North’s pillows. 

“With you, my love? Always.”

Daily Fic Highlight: Unresolved Argument

Today's winner of the kudos email is:

"Unresolved Argument" is a North/Bunny ficlet that I wrote for Round 1 of the Rise of the Guardians Dreamwidith Kinkmeme. Bunny and North are drinking and Bunny makes a suggestion. North wants him to clarify before they go on. 620 words, T, M/M.

Can ya do headcanon infodumps on ALL of the Holiday related Cookies?

Carol:

She has a natural singing voice and one of the biggest dreams of her childhood was singing for a live audience.

Whenever she sings, animals flock to her, knowing that they’re safe in her presence. She’s basically a Disney Princess!

And speaking of which, she also collaborated with other singers like Rockstar, Poppin’ Candy and The Cake Pops, and Shining Glitter.

Pinecone:

They can store who knows how much food in their cheeks, and they’re proud of it!

They love planting seeds, they always mark the places where they put them, and give each tree to be a name before they even sprout.

Pancake Cookie is one of their best friends because they share acorn jellies together when the sun is out.

Eggnog:

He knows the names of every kid cookie on Earthbread!

He considers the elves that work for him his family as well.

He knows how to wield a sword without being afraid of getting hurt. (RoTG reference)

Tiramisu:

Some of his favorite animals are musk oxen, reindeer, and snowy owls!

He loves those super big jackets that obscure you when you’re all wrapped up.

His favorite movie of all time is Klaus.

Lollipop:

Some of her favorite toys to design are Barbie dolls- cookie versions of them!

One of her favorite things to do is to make concept art for toys.

She donates any toys that don’t get delivered to kids who need them the most.

Butterbear:

He spoils Lollipop with the most beautiful toys you can ever imagine.

Some of his best works are probably some of those super complex robot toys.

Whenever it comes to spare toys, he donates them to kids who need them.

She carries around a bag of holiday glitter to spread around.

Her antlers may be decorative, but she takes good care of them.

Strawberry Cream:

He’s always lived in the woods his entire life- not only was he raised by the foxes, but he knows which berries are poisonous and which ones are safe!

His tricycle was a Christmas gift from Eggnog.

He lives above The Cookie Herald in a small apartment for one.

Black Christmas - The only ship I really have for Pitch within canon. In the books, Pitch is fascinated with North and notes that he's a capable warrior. Which, coming from a former General of the Golden Age, is high praise. I love the idea of Pitch corrupting North and making him the Krampus-- a dark version of himself.

BloodMoon - This is Pitch/MiM and I'm hella selective with it but I used to write it back on @omnipotentmoon with a Pitch and it was so cute. Enemies to lovers is a BIG draw for me. While I can't see my Pitch being with a MiM [he hates them all too much] I still ship it nonetheless.

Pitch/Kozmotis - Honestly taking 'go fuck yourself' to a new level. I totally ship this and love the idea of time travel or multiverse shenanigans leading to the two meeting. Koz would hate everything about Pitch and Pitch would torment Koz with his knowledge of what's to come.

Pitch/Tsar Lunanoff XI - I hella ship Koz and the Tsar [MiM's dad] and personally hc that they were extremely close prior to his corruption. The feelings that Koz had were twisted into hate and resentment by the fearlings-- but I'd so be down for a plot where Nightlight helps purify Pitch and the Tsar helps reach the man he was inside.

BlackIce - I hate it so much. Pitch is in his 40s/50s physically and folks ship him with an immortal child. Overall the sexualization of Jack kinda creeps me out-- it's like people who sexualize Peter Pan. Let the immortal spirits of reckless abandon and feral youth be that. I can't even go into Pitch's tag without seeing dozens of blocked posts for it. it's the BillDip of ROTG.

BlackLight - Same reason as above. Nightlight is a spectral boy he is a child. Peter Pan coded. Besides, I ship him and Katherine [and for my Father Frost adult!jack they got married and had a daughter]. It's not my cuppa and I have the tag blocked.

Cavity - Especially with how I write Book!Pitch-- Tooth would hate him and he sees her as yet another bump in the road toward his revenge. It's not personally my thing but I can see the appeal [especially since the ship name is so creative].

BlackSand - Again just-- not personally for me. I see the appeal as a ship as it mirrors the dynamics with Pitch/MiM, and makes sense for like a ROTG Pitch. But since I'm a Book!Pitch-- he just sees Sandy as the star he failed to properly end. He intends to finish the job.

RottenEggs - Pitch literally murdered the guy's entire planet. Book!Bunnymund hates him with every hair on his body. Pitch enjoys rubbing his actions in Bunny's face. [tbh I ship EggNog so I prefer the married couple bickering of North and Bunny]

Pitch/Anyone - Crossover ships too-- I know Pitch & Elsa are a popular crossover ship. I don't care for it myself but I see the appeal. Pitch has no heart, therefore can't FEEL for anyone. I can relate to the thirst for his character, but I'm not into it.

Prompt 103: The elves in North's workshop are actually MUCH more intelligent than they appear. A scene where they converse like Niles and Frasier Crane.

On Christmas Eve, right before North starts his journey, Sandy will make doubly sure that the children of the first destination are sound asleep. It is a challenging night for him as they are so often full of excitement and sometimes just full of sugar but he manages. 

Sometimes, on very, very rare occasions when he hears a Christmas wish he simply cannot answer on his own, he allows a sleeper to only dream lightly so that they might hear North and speak with him, believing that he is wise enough and kind enough to put their worries at rest or at least explain the world to them that Sandy in reality has very little true experience of.

who did he get married to

yes! That headcanon is a reference to this:

specifically the little text of ‘I got married on may nineteenth, four thousand miles from here.’

I’m not really sure what the rotg team meant by that when they put that there, maybe a reference to Ms. Claus? We don’t ever see a wedding ring that North wears, which makes it interesting.

But, my personal headcanon was that he was married, shortly before he became a spirit. Who he got married to depends on if I want angst or not. Becoming an immortal means leaving behind your love but I am WEAK for the eggnog paring.

So, either a Ms. (Or Mr, we don't know) Claus or Bunny.

Daily Fic Highlight: Don't Scratch the Paint

Today's winner of the kudos email is:

"Don't Scratch the Paint" is a North/Bunny ficlet I wrote as part of my project to fill all unfilled prompts in Round 1 of the Rise of the Guardians Dreamwidth Kinkmeme. Bunny has had a good time having sex with North in the sleigh, but their conversation after shows that North had a purpose other than just having fun. 597 words, M, M/M.

This was one of my earlier fills in the project, over 10 years old!

Eggnog is definitely a rare pair in this fandom, but I remember that when I showed a friend Rise of the Guardians who wasn't in the fandom, it was the one she came away with.

So really, Bunny thinks drowsily, a moment, or two, or ten, of quiet isn’t too much to ask for right now. North had very clearly been holding nothing back and so it’s reasonable to assume that interrupting Bunny’s afterglow would require too much interruption of his. But North is very good at being unreasonable, and Bunny is often positive that he knows this better than anyone else.

Some RotG Episode Ideas bc that Potential Animated Series Project Post by @lumin0usfox Inspired Me

(( i haven't read book 5 of goc yet so mega apologies if some of this is off (im writing this with knowledgeup to War of Dreams) and assuming that most people outside of the fandom haven't read the books. im kinda writing it for that mindset))

- Opening episode is Jack and Jamie working on trying to get Jack believers. hyjinks ensue.

- like following the logic that William Joyce has already set that Burgess doesn't really have a specific time. like yeah it's like 2012 but it's also in the past so the Internet isn't really that big of a thing. So they can't just make a blog post or YouTube video and have it go viral. so they focus on more in-person not-offline ways of getting believers

-or idk maybe the technology does exist and a youtube video goes viral and Jack gets a lot of believers that way. the rest of the guardians are just... "is that allowed???".

- I know this is super self-indulgent but can we please have Jamie and North try to teach Jack, Bunny, and Tooth memes please. if nothing else than as a running joke

-an episode of all of the guardians checking up on pitch to make sure he's not trying anything. and since Jack's lost most of his memories this could be where he (and the audience) learns Pitch's past

- at least one episode that's not too much of jack really interacting with the guardians or the kids from Burgess specifically and we kind of get more of a glimpse into what his life was like before becoming a guardian or having believers

-holiday special must include a party at North's. I think this might actually be canon actually. plus sandy goes nuts for the eggnog so that's gonna be fun. Sandy absolutely destroys Bunny at charades.

-an episode where Jack is kinda awkward and still figuring out his role and dynamic with the guardians. like North invites his to spend time at the pole after he learns Jack doesn't have much of a home outside of The Oak of Sorrows and they really confront that whole "u guess abandoned me for 300 years and now we friend and give me a second I need to adjust. maybe they learn about how lonely jack felt or that they didn't know how bad it was."

-episode to introduce Katherine and how she's really come into her role as Mother Goose. maybe she's spent sometime moving on from nightlight. she still misses him obviously, but she's recognize that jack isn't him anyway and i can't imagine her trying to force anything or interfere with his life if she thinks he's happy. if the episode doesn't start with "Once upon a time, ..." then i give up.

- I really can't imagine romance being like a main focus point here but the grounds are kind of already laid for Jack and tooth to get together from the movie. And also because lesbians are powerful and make everything better, Katherine and mother nature could have bonded over their conflicts with pitch and IDK they would be an absolute power couple. Also Sandy is a literal alien, so I don't think he really cares much about human gender roles or standards. Non-binary icon.

- maybe because Jack hasn't been able to talk to the Man in the Moon for so long the Guardians 2 Straight Up take him to the Moon to get closure. This whole event can be like a 2 episode special or something. Maybe this is where Jack learns the night light lore if that would be something that anyone would wanna touch. (i love GoC and I've been a part of the fandom since at least 2016 but damn i still can't think of a non-completely convoluted way of connecting Jack to Nightlight. Maybe something happens after book 5 that causes NightLight to forget about the Guardians when he's in his human form the Guardians don't know who he became when he became human so they lost track of one another. (It could explain why the Guardians don't recognize Jack is Nightlight even though they look exactly alike and act the same and have the same powers.))

- these are all really plot-heavy so what are some light-headed episode ideas?? uhh... let's see...

-Similar to how Bunny has egg hunts and tooth has puting teeth under the pillow, Jack and Jamie try to figure what some tradition for him could be and try to popularize them.

- Jack finds out north used to be a criminal and the Bandit King. it's absolute chaos.

- Jamie has to get a bit more creative with coming up with excuses for why he keeps getting caught talking to the air.

-So what if this takes place a few years after RotG. We can see has Burgess has grown a bit and Jack has to see Jamie grow up a bit and start to enter high school. he still believes in jack of course but it could be bitter sweet plus Jamie at age 14 would be physically the same age as Jack. ~~ Parallels ~~ the inherent existentialism of being immortal, u know, fun stuff (if done right).

-Jack tracking down his sister's family in the modern day to know they're okay and so he can see the consequences of his sacrifice.

-Sophie is Bunny's helper for the day.

-really just a season where jack figures out his place with the guardians and more about who he is. those themes of found family and building trust with those around you. oooh that's the good stuff.

-I know this is ambitious but maybe like the first season could be Jack kind of building that relationship with the Guardians and his new Believers with hints of who he was in the past and then like the second season is the deeper dive into who he was unlike it just gets really deep and oh my God I can't stop thinking about those now.

I have a question... does Jack sleep??? it's for science (and it's been bugging me for almost a year)

Sleep/rest is one of the basic needs along with food, water and warmth.  The guardians, the only other spirits we see, seem to have these basic needs and even fulfill some on screen (sleeping, drinking eggnog, eating cookies, warming by the fire & complaining about the cold).  This kind of presents spirits as extra durable humans (of a kind).

I’ve seen arguments that spirits simply choose to fulfill these needs for fun, which is another theory.  One that makes whump opportunities very boring tbh.  So I don’t subscribe to this theory, although I agree that it would be dumb to create immortal beings only to let them die via starvation or exposure when it’s literally impossible for them to ask humans (the majority population on Earth) for help.  So they are either just very difficult to kill via basic needs or they need less in general (so less sleep, less food, less water and less warmth is needed to stay alive).  Personally, I’m still undecided on which theory I prefer.

I’ve also seen theories where Jack is a walking corpse of some kind that doesn’t have basic needs simply because he is a walking corpse.  It’s intruiging but also doesn’t make sense?  Corpses’ don’t need to breathe and Jack clearly breathes throughout the movie (watch his chest, especially when he gets emotional).  I have a theory that he also didn’t die/drown in the pond since he should have taken on a little bit of water if he sunk that far down (bodies float if they’ve got enough air in them).  I think MiM saw that happen, knew that they didn’t have the time or medical knowledge to save him and instead put him on pause.  Jack also would probably have died of cold shock instead of drowning?  I’m not a dr. or even a first aider but if you fall under the ice my understanding is that you should not fight it but wait for your body to get over cold shock then start moving, which Jack clearly didn’t since you could see his hands flailing in the flashback?  Anyway that’s a bit off topic but basically I think Jack is a normal immortal.

Rotg takes place over roughly (very roughly, the timezones and timeskips make things a bit strange) three days ignoring the timeskips and flashbacks, which is not impossible to survive without sleep, doubly so if you’re an immortal.  Recently I did a scan through to check for whump opps and found that there’s enough time for the Guardians to get at least one sleep in.

Day 1 is the day where Jack is chosen & also the day where Jack and Jamie play.  On Day 1 Jack doesn’t sleep (because Bunny got him kidnapped).

(Night 1 where Jack doesn’t sleep)

Day 2 is technically the whole tooth palace/tooth collecting scene but since they jump timezones and also skip a lot of the tooth collection it’s a bit confusing.

The Guardians sleep on Night 2 due to the dreamsand, and Jack gets knocked unconscious during the fight.

(Night 2 where Jack gets knocked unconcsious.  He also has time before Sandy’s funeral to be sleeping along with the other guardians, but this is boring to watch so to keep the pacing quick we don’t see it.)

Day 3 is Easter, where Jack goes to meet Pitch and has a fight in Antarctica.

(Night 3 is very eventful, Jack is knocked unconscious again, gains his first believer and joins the battle against Pitch.  Being knocked out doesn’t really let your body rest, which is why you’re tired after surgeries etc so Jack is running low at this point.  The Guardians also had time to sleep between Easter and Jamie’s house, but it’s unlikely)

We see the dawn of day 4 but that’s just about it for day 4 so I don’t count it.  This was just a rough rundown of how much sleep the guardians could have gotten during the movie, which is more than expected tbh.  At most Jack goes 48 hours without sleep between the modern day intro and Sandy’s death.  I’d love to delve into the logistics of how he’d be feeling throughout the course of the movie sleep wise but this is long enough as it is and I haven’t really answered your question yet.  whoops!

So, to actually answer your question, yes, Jack sleeps and needs to sleep.  (and also eats, drinks etc.)  But this is only speculation so technically you can think what you want.
