If you missed any or all of the Unus Annus livestream, here's a summary of every hour:

~11 hours out: The channel name could've been Annus Singulos (they decided on Unus Annus at a Buffalo Wildwing)

They always planned on it ending on Friday the 13th NOT the 15th (@ MatPat)

The dude who interrupted the sex toys video was not a mailman, he was just some guy. He did not comment on the sex toy stuff.

~10 hours out: They look at memes. Mark "hook car batteries up to my nipples and I'll say yes every time" Fischbach is NOT a masochist, he just wants to know what it feels like to be hit by a car

Frank!!! Frank!!!!!!!

Ethan is going to marry the microphone clip on his shirt

Dollar Shave Club never got back to them about a sponsorship

The workers including the actress in the escape room actually enjoyed having Mark and Ethan doing their shtick there

~9 hours out: Vincent the editor made a best of his edits throughout the videos, it was beautiful, it was mostly just clips of dying

He also wrote them a WHOLE DAMN ORIGINAL SONG!!! IN A WEEK!! About stopping the clock!!! He rapped!

Marcus the editor did a funny edits-roll as well, it was brilliant

~8 hours out: Rachel shows her edits roll! Some of the funniest clips in the whole series!

A comment they read: Mark can do any of his edgy project ideas now and that's terrifying.

Mark: Just wait til you see my next project.

Their merch manager had to buy a 4th warehouse to produce all the merch that had been ordered

If anyone sees Unus Annus pictures or any reminiscence of it in the future and are asked where it's from we are supposed to respond with "You wouldn't get it 🙄"

~7 hours out: they complain more about enema water gun

They re-watch the Pepper spray video. Mark talked about how he thinks about the pain whenever he sees videos of riotors/protestors getting sprayed. Everyone in chat chanted “BLM” and “ACAB” for a few minutes.

Lixian the editor had his edit reel played (”They make em (the people) pretty in Portugal”)

Mark was salty at Youtube because they claimed they didn’t make billboards for YouTube shows and hence, wouldn’t make a billboard for A Heist With Markiplier, but then later made one for James Charles’ show

Mark presented Amy with a BRAND NEW BUG WATCH 😭

Amy: No nothing on their (Youtube’s) Twitter, they’re not talking about it (Unus Annus)

Mark: Guess it’s not important enough...

Amy: They’re too busy tweeting about “World Kindness Day”

~6 hours out: Ethan compares the channel dying to putting down a dog. Things get serious for a beat, people in chat start crying.

They look at fanart for a while, Mark criticizes it like an asshole

They watch Pink Trombone again.

Mark and Ethan guarantee that after the channel is gone they will not forget about it. Mark also permits people to make creations / art after Unus Annus is deleted.

~5 hours out: They re-watch Pee Sauna, dying inside all the way.

DJ Burt Blackarach surprises them with a cake and champagne.

Chat is flooded with “❤🧡💛💚💙💜” messages for a while

Looking at memes again, Mark confirms that the noises that the radio made in SCP Amy were 100% just the radios, not them, making the sounds. They still don’t know why they made those sounds.

Mark and Ethan beg for 1mil like in order to see what’s actually in the Unus Annus casket. They might even lay down in it.

~4 hours out: We find out that in the Children’s Games in Total Darkness video, the weird shot of them both in a trance staring into the phone screen was actually just them trying to adjust their eyes back to normal light and it wound up looking super cool.

Vincent’s highlight reel is played again while everyone takes a break, supposedly there is a “surprise” to be revealed soon.

A tattoo artist named Danielle comes on the set, Ethan says he’s going to get an Unus Annus tattoo live.

~3 hours out: More fanart. Mark admits that after this ends, he’s probably never going to wear his suit ever again, he might bury it. (There’s not much room left in his backyard)

Mark talks Danielle the tattoo artist’s ear off about how wholesome and educational and not cursed the channel was.

Mark and Ethan then do a full 180 and confess to Danielle all their sins; cooking with sex toys, pee sauna, pee life straws, the pee soda idea, drilldo, etc.

Amy: (while Eef’s getting tattooed) “Mark, he’s choosing to spend his last day in pain. And you’re not!”

Mark: (looking at a picture of a tattoo) How long do you think that tattoo would take?

Danielle: Probably 3 hours.

Mark: 3 HOURS?!?! That’s more time than we have to live!!

Alex, Mark’s trainer, made them a euology video. It was like a LORE-filled poem made of secret callbacks to the titles of past videos.

Ethan’s tattoo is done, it is a “ 00:00:00 “ on his left arm.

Stevie who runs the merch shop makes a guest appearance. He self descirbes as “tired and sad and a little tipsy.” He seems both grateful and dead inside. He says he’s going to do a matching tattoo with Ethan.

Mark admits he was planning on not doing merch originally, but he’s glad he changed his mind.

~2 hours out: They talk about behind the scenes of Hee hoo. The reason Mark’s still wearing high socks during this video is because of all the burs so he doesn’t scrape up his legs. Amy wrote the whole end credits story about Ethan meeting Michelle Obama and dying a tyrant.

Mark never got to watch Ethan kidnaps Mark, so they watch it.

They watch The Truth about Unus Annus, Amy surprises Mark with a white tophat. #Mark’sNewHat (it’s an extra large)

~1 hour out: Things get serious. Mark and Ethan private the Unus Annus Instagram (so that no one else can take the Unus Annus handle) and delete all the posts.

Mark proposes that Amy be the one to hit the delete button at the end of the channel. They agree to do it together.

They hit 1 million likes. They open the coffin. There’s nothing in the coffin, but the inside is very pretty, split-colors silk. They take turns laying in it for the first time with the door shut. It’s comfy. Even Amy tries laying in it.

Mark says a short eulogy for Eef as Eef does for Mark. They both say a eulogy for Amy. They all get choked up. The coffin is now called the Cry Box.

They delete the Unus Annus Twitter. They set the Subreddit to private. Apparently there were no mods on that subreddit except Mark.

Mark finally confessed to Amy that he punched a hole in the wall. Amy was there when it was being patched up, but she forgives him anyway.

They play The Barrel and sing along. They thank their team. They thank the audience.

Amy comes down. They all put their hands on the computer. “Unus Annus."

Mark: "See you on the other side."

Ethan: "See you on the other side."

they click delete. The channel is gone forever. Memento mori.

rec post for @f-eef that got too long for its own good, and is now just. a general rec post i guess

(as of writing, today is the steam summer sale! writing this before that goes live, so no guarantee everything on here is on sale, but! most of these are older games, so it’s likely. keep them in mind~)

- Iconoclasts my absolute favourite game, ever (along with OFF, but shh), if you check out one game from this list, let it be this one. it’s a genuinely almost flawless package, with gorgeous pixel art, fun gameplay, a really good story, and a cast of characters i just. adore. it’s so so so good, and three years later, i’m still not over it

- The Binding of Isaac so there’s this genre called roguelikes, wherein the whole gimmick is that, when you die, you gotta start from the Very Beginning; and the ‘point’ is getting better and better at the game, until you win! it’s super easy to just, play a few runs (they generally don’t last that long!), and then go on with your day, so it’s a really fun game to just waste time in, if you just wanna chill with some game. and, in my personal opinion, Isaac is the best roguelike game, with so much stuff to unlock, a whole slew of items to play with, and so much content it’s kind of unreal. i definitely think the DLCs are worth picking up, but it’s mostly for more content than like. actually being necessary

- Terraria it’s minecraft, but 2D. unlike MC, it’s got a bit of guidance, which i personally prefer, with bosses to fight and such. an absolutely BLAST with other people too

- A Hat in Time a 3D platformer, ala Mario, that’s just. super charming. it’s also really fun to play. i haven’t actually played the DLC’s, since i played it way back, but i’ve heard good things about Nyakuza Metro, which does look super slick, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

- Slime Rancher you are a slime rancher. you ranch slimes. it’s honestly just wholesome as hell, and just exudes happy vibes. mostly for running around and collecting slimes, ngl

- The Messenger really funky retro game, wherein you play a ninja on a mission. it’s primary draw is definitely in its gameplay, but there’s a surprising amount of story for this kind of genre? i honestly really just like this one. it’s neat

- Underhero you play as a cute minion, who kind of like. managed to kill the hero. and whoops, guess you’re doing his job now? it’s got that undertale vibe, though i’d say it’s less polished than it. HOWEVER, it’s absolutely lovely and it’s climax is REALLY good

- Hatoful Boyfriend bird dating sim. trust me. the ‘secret’ finale route is just. *chef’s kiss* fantastic

- Night in the Woods if you don’t mind having a very poignant sad time, oh my god, i could not recommend NITW more. it perfectly captures that period when you’re done with school, and suddenly your whole life is stretching before you, and you feel so so fucking lost, and overwhelmed and pained with it. it’s just. so good. a sadness worth experiencing 

- Shovel Knight another retro game! this one is, pretty much, the king of the genre, and for very good reasons. the first one (shovel of hope) doesn’t have much story, but the latter ones really add on it. they’re honestly just, really solid games! with funky knight characters!!!

- Hyper Light Drifter man, it’s just a masterpiece. everything about it is perfect. it’s been like, five years, and it’s still one of the very best indie games

- Tell Me Why it’s currently free for june! and it’s a story game! plus, if you like the genre, the devs got the ‘Life Is Strange’ serie(s) to delve into!

- Cat Quest honestly, i just really like this little game. the gameplay is SO much fun, and everything else is just. really charming :’)

- Yoku’s Island Express metroidvania, where you play as a dung-beetle post officer, and the gimmick is that it’s pinball-y! it’s really fun, and very cute and just an all around good time :)

- Owlboy you play as an owl boy! named Otus! and you can fly around, and there’s GORGEOUS pixel graphics, and a neat story, and just. the BEST cast of characters. it’s delightful

- Yuppie Psycho + Count Lucanor just gonna bundle these two together, because they’re both REALLY GOOD. YP is the newer one, and is therefore probably ‘the better one’, but i like them both a ton! they’re 2D horror, but i wouldn’t say they’re that spooky? though that might just be because they’re pixel games! you explore spooky place, and weird stuff happens around you. just a really fun time :)

- Angels of Death my FAVOURITE rpgmaker game, it’s main draw is, a 100%, the main characters and the relationship that develops between them. i just love it a whole lot, and it’s got that lil’ tinge of horror that i, personally, fucking adore. there’s actually an anime based on this, but i haven’t seen it myself!

- Celeste curve ball! it’s a 2D platformer! it’s really good, got a ton of accessibility features, and has like. the tightest gameplay- and, on top of that, surprisingly emotional story! 

- Bastion putting Bastion here, because it’s actually the only one i’ve properly played, but you could probably buy any of the Supergiant Games, and come out satisfied. Bastion is the oldest of the bunch, and is definitely a bit less polished for it, but i personally adore it; the gameplay probably hasn’t aged that well, but i think the story and presentation more than makes up for it

- The Darkside Detective funny point and click adventure, with great wit, and a pair of characters i kind of simply adore. it’s main draw is definitely its humour

- Littlewood very wholesome and chill farming game, that feels more like an RPG than something like stardew valley- i’d not recommend it over SV, but if you want more of SV, Littlewood might scratch that itch!

- Pony Island + The Hex absolutely adore both of these, though if i had to rec only one, it’d probably be Pony Island? they’ve both got that undertale-off vibe, though Pony Island definitely leans harder into it. very interesting plays, both of them

- Oxenfree another horror-ish game! primarily story-focused, but oh boy, what a story! i’m a BIG fan of this game, and the sequel was recently announced too! definitely worth a look if you like ghost shenanigans

- Creature in the Well wasn’t a 100% sure if i should rec this, but beside the finale boss, i really enjoyed my time with this! it’s this weird pinball inspired hack and slash, with some amazing vibes

- Kindergarten 1 + 2 they’re just fun little games okay. the 2nd is much more fleshed out, but the 1st one is really fun too

- the Henry Stickmin collection I JUST... LIKE THESE GAMES A LOT... i think you can find the old versions somewhere on the internet, if you wanna check them out first? idk, they’re fun!

- LIMBO + INSIDE personally, i like INSIDE more, but both of these are classics, and also they’re made by a danish team, and i like them a WHOLE LOT

- The Final Station i could not tell you why i like this game as much as i do, but oh my god. i love this game? it’s got a dying world, neat pixel graphics, big zombie apocalypse vibes, and a weird little story

- Year Walk i love Year Walk :)

- Smile For Me if you liked undertale’s lovely cast of characters, oh boy, you’d likely LOVE this game! it’s really, really, fantastic, and the epilogue (not in the actual game lol) hit me right in the feels

- Pikuniku just a fun little game! there’s not really much there, in the grand scheme of things, but it’s a wonderful little play, one of those games that just sets out to give you a good time, and absolutely success. i like it a lot :’)

- A Short Hike wonderful game, where it’s more about exploring the island than actively finishing the game. it’s real wonderful

- ULTRAKILL ANOTHER CURVEBALL! no idea if you like FPS, but oh my god. ULTRAKILL is so fucking good. just an absolute blast to play. there’s a demo to check out, and i’d definitely recommend it, because if it’s a genre you might like, you’ll love this one (OH also it’s in early access, which means it’s not finished yet! personally, i don’t mind that, especially considering this is more gameplay focused, but ya’ know!)

- My Friend Pedro it’s honestly just really fun to play, and sometimes i still think about the implied lore, and go all !!!!

- Little Misfortune another point and click! this one is pretty short, and is set within the same universe as their other game, Fran Bow, which is much bigger, but idk. i like this one. it’s dark cute

- This Strange Realm of Mine i honestly dunno how to explain this one, because it’s kind of weird and a bit odd, but i really like it, in all its weird poetic glory. it’s neat!

- Donut County you’re a terrible racoon who’s ruined the whole city with holes. it’s great and i love it

- OneShot another ‘gives me undertale vibes’, though this one was in development before UT, if i recall correctly! it’s so good, and it’s got some fantastic meta bits, and i love Niko. i love Niko so much

- Inmost gorgeous vaguely spooky game with a neat story... my favourite genre

- Sayonara Wild Hearts i’d call this more of a spectacle than anything else, but oh my god. what a spectacle it is! the OST is amazing, everything about it just hits right, and even if you suck at the gameplay (which i did), it really doesn’t matter, in my opinion? it’s just great all around!

Funny Feeling

I am a huge fan of @inkribbon796 ’s Masks and Maladies series, so I wanted to write a one shot with some of the characters. Fic under the cut. Also, please read the trigger warnings before you check out the fic. thanks! (also this conversation takes place after Like a House of Cards, so Mark and Sean know that Hearts is the future version of Ethan)

Trigger Warnings: mentions of torture, electrocution, panic attacks, identity issues (kind of, idk, I’ll throw it over here just in case), crying, PTSD, survivors guilt, kind of implied claustrophobia, mentioned suicide attempt (nothing graphic, I promise), mentioned stay at a psych ward

Summary: Silver Shepherd and Jackieboyman have a conversation with Hearts. It doesn’t go how they thought it would.

Hearts was on the roof when they came to him to have the inevitable conversation. He knew they’d try to talk to him the second he revealed himself. Hearts didn’t bother turning when he heard the two figures trying to creep behind him. He kept strumming his ukulele. He wasn’t wearing his mask or his voice box, so it was just his voice that came out when he sang.

Hearts didn’t bother wiping the tears that came to his eyes. He knew they wouldn’t fall. He remembered the last time he saw the two men behind him, back before everything went wrong.

“Hey, Eef,” Mark tried.

“Don’t call me that,” Hearts said, not turning to look at him. “I haven’t been Ethan in a long time.”

Sean carefully stepped closer. “What should we call you then?”

Hearts hesitated. “You can call me Nestor. The only person that’s called me Ethan for the past six years was Spade.” He finally turned to look at them. “Where’s younger me?”

“We sent him to sleep it off,” Mark said.

“Good,” Hearts turned back to the city.

“Are you okay?” Mark finally asked. He winced at the sound of the question, but before he could try and rephrase, Hearts laughed sadly.

“You know they killed Tyler in front of me?”

Mark and Sean both froze. Hearts didn’t look at them. “The demon hunters nabbed him from Ohio and dragged him over to this dumpster fire of a town, and then nabbed me too.” Hearts paused to clear his throat when his voice started getting choked up. “They threatened to torture him if I didn’t tell them where all the possible demons were.”

Hearts scoffed softly. “By that point, basically everyone in town was part demon. Tyler looked me in the eye, and told me he’d kill me himself if I told them anything.” Tears were slowly pouring down Hearts’s cheeks. “It was six hours. They put him in one of those electrocution chairs, and they put the voltage too high. His heart stopped.”

Mark and Sean’s heartstrings tugged painfully when Hearts let out a sob. “It was too late. He was already half dead by then. They panicked and ran, and I couldn’t stop screaming. By the time Spade got there, I was trying to do CPR, and I was basically in hysterics. He had to knock me out.”

Hearts was softly weeping at that point, still not looking at them. “That was the day, Ethan Nestor ceased to exist.” He choked out, gritting his teeth and wiping his eyes.

“Oh, Ethan,” Sean whispered sadly. It hurt to see a boy normally so optimistic, so full of life to be reduced to a shell of who he once was.

Hearts didn’t comment, just turned to face them. “It wasn’t your fault,” Mark said slowly, cautiously sitting a couple inches away from him. “You did everything you could.”

Hearts choked on another laugh. “That’s what Emile tells me whenever Spades can get Patt sane enough to form him. Doesn’t mean I believe it.”

Hearts finally turned to face his friends, nothing but helplessness on his face as he looked at them both. “Two weeks later, I tried to off myself. Spade found me. I had to spend two months in a psych ward. By then, I was apathetic enough to get the job done.”

“Did they make you police commissioner again?” Sean asked, sitting on Hearts’s other side.

Hearts scoffed. “They were basically begging me to come back. The demon hunters went on a rampage, and no one else wanted to go up against them.”

Mark cautiously put a hand on Heart’s shoulder. Hearts stiffened, but didn’t push him away. “I’m so sorry,” Hearts sobbed. “I couldn’t save you, I couldn’t save any of you.”

Sean couldn’t stop himself from wrapping his arms around Hearts and hugging him tightly. Mark did the same. Hearts didn’t react, just sobbed louder.

“I couldn’t save you. There was so much blood, and I couldn’t stop it, and I kept being scared,” Hearts wept. “I haven’t cried in more than five years. I knew if I started I wouldn’t stop.”

Mark couldn’t stop himself from squeezing the boy tighter. That’s all Ethan Nestor, any version of Ethan Nestor, would ever be to him: That righteous little blue boy with the bad acne who he had to stop from getting involved in things way over his head.

“Shh, Ethan,” Sean whispered into the boy’s hair. “It’s okay, we know you did everything you could. It wasn’t your fault.”

Hearts only cried louder. “Yes it was! I wasn’t there.”

“I’m sure you did everything you could,” Mark murmured soothingly.

“You don’t understand,” Hearts choked, pushing them away. “I was trapped under a building before the real battle begun. I told you I was fine. I was watching as y-you - “ Ethan couldn’t stop his sobbing as he recounted being trapped under the building, utterly helpless as he watched his surrogate father and uncle be ripped apart, screaming in agony. “I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t move, I wake up some days and I feel like I’m still trapped under there, completely helpless . . .” Mark recognized that Ethan was working himself into a panic attack.

“Ethan, breath with me,” Mark coaxed, pressing Hearts’s head to his chest. Hearts gradually calmed down, laying limply in Mark’s arms.

“I’m so sorry I couldn’t save you,” Hearts choked out. Sean felt his own eyes start to tear up as he grabbed Hearts’s hand and gently ran his thumb over his knuckles.

Mark squeezed Hearts tighter. “Listen to me, none of what happened was your fault. Not my death, not Sean’s, not your - “ Mark’s voice choked up at the thought of Ethan Nestor, pale and bloody and limp … “suicide attempt, none of it.”

Hearts, while clearly not believing it, nodded and wiped his eyes. He slowly fell limp in Mark’s arms.

Mark and Sean sat in silence, the future version of their friend laying in his arms. “Poor Ethan,” Sean finally muttered, moving to run his fingers through Hearts’s hair.

“We’re not dead now,” Mark said, his voice shaking. “We can protect him, keep him from…” Mark’s voice trailed off as he clutched Hearts to his chest tighter.

They sat in silence until footsteps approaches them. Mark and Sean turned to see Spade and Clubs approaching. Spade wordlessly held his arms out expectantly. Mark hesitated, before remembering that it Spade who protected Hearts when he wasn’t there to do it. He gently handed the unconscious boy to the man.

Spade hugged Heart to his chest protectively as he walked inside, not acknowledging Mark or Sean beyond a nod. Clubs watched them go sadly. “Poor guy was torn up when everything happened. We were the only ones on his side when he became public enemy number 1.”

Mark and Sean exchanged sad looks. Clubs sighed, before smiling at the two of them, a melancholy tinge present in his eyes. “Look after your version, won’t you?”

“We will,” Mark promised. He took one last glance at Hearts’s unconscious face, before nodding at Sean and going back to the base.

Mark made a promise to himself that day. He swore that he’d always protect their little blue boy, no matter what.

They grabbed Ethan’s favorite ice cream on the way back.

101. Ik ben weer een reisblog, geen glee blog

Maar nu wordt ik heel eventjes een Avatar blog. Niemand herinnert dit, maar precies 50 posts geleden (wow), poste ik dat ik mega happy was dat Nickeoloden eindelijk na 13 lange jaren de hele final Avatar battle op YouTube had gezet en daarna schreef ik:

THANK YOU NICKELODEON!!! Eindelijk hoef ik niet meer shitty geknipte versies te kijken op YouTube. Deze scene is *chef’s kiss*. De muziek, de cinematografie, de “choreografie”, het kleurgebruik... Wow. 

Er is een hele Avatar Renaissance gaande, aangezien alle afleveringen eindelijk op de Amerikaanse Netflix staan. Ze staan al maanden op de Nederlandse Netflix.

Ik zeg altijd: “Glee is mijn favoriete show, maar Avatar is de beste show.”

En ugh, ik ga geen mega lang betoog schrijven over waarom Avatar zo goed is (lang verhaal kort: de complexiteit van morele ambiguïteit wordt geweldig vertoond in een cartoon, waardoor zowel kinderen als volwassenen deze show kunnen bekijken en waarderen), want heel veel anderen hebben al genoeg analyses gedaan.

Laat me zeggen: er is een reden dat ik mijn hele bachelorthesis eraan besteedde. Tenminste, dat was het idee voordat ik met mijn bachelorthesis kapte. Ik hoop eigenlijk nog steeds dat ik volgend jaar nog steeds verder kan met Avatar als onderwerp, want het gaat dus over moraliteit in de media, maar aangezien ik de doelgroep ga veranderen, is er een kans dat het niet door gaat.

Fun fact, en hierna ga ik door met het normale “blog” gedoe, maar op een bepaald moment had ik bijna de hele DVD box gekocht om het a) zelf te kijken, obviously, en b) om Bram en Jasper het te laten zien, want ze zijn te jong om deze serie te kennen en dat is een schande! Nah, jk, maar serieus, Avatar is een aanrader.

... de sequel Avatar: The Legend of Korra is ook zeer goed, maar de eerste twee seizoenen zijn.... eh... uh.... dece?

Goed. Terug naar het blogging. Nieuws over Corona? Nou, nee, niet echt. Iets wat ik ook al tegen pa zei: er is gewoon niet veel nieuws. Alles is oké. Dit is niet zoals Nederland waar nog steeds grote dingen worden aangekondigd.

Natuurlijk is er altijd wel nieuws (gister 1 besmetting, 1 dode), maar het is niet zo groot dat ik elke dag een heel stuk erover hoef te schrijven. Nu is het gewoon afwachten: of de laatste dingen gaan open OF er komt een tweede golf. Als één van die dingen gebeurt, laat ik het zeker wel weten.

Ik heb gekookt en ik heb weer die pasta saus gemaakt en ingevroren. Net zoals vorige keer weet ik niets van kruiden en hoeveelheden dus ik heb gewoon van alles erin gegooid zonder na te denken en nu is het zeer zoet. Ik vind het wel fijn. Alweer een foto (sue me 🙄), maar ik moet nu laten zien dat ik spinaziepasta heb gekocht.

In plaats van Corona, heb ik nieuws over ~~sociale contacten~~. Wow! Gisteren heeft mijn Switch een kwartier vast gehangen toen ik met Maikel, Merel, Eef, Annika en Laura speelde! Hoera. Iedereen had hetzelfde probleem en we weten nog steeds niet wat er gebeurd is. Soms heb je wel lag of krijg je een communication error, maar nu hing iedereen gewoon voor een kwartier vast.

Hoe dan ook, alles is nu oké en alles doet het weer. Daarna konden we gewoon verder en opnieuw proberen. Just... wtf was that? Rond middernacht ben ik naar een eiland gegaan van een vreemde uit de Heartstopper server voor DIYs en blijkbaar kent deze persoon niet alle functies.

Rebecca/Pascal was shook.

Verder ben ik begonnen met kattenfoto’s naar Verena te sturen. Ze heeft een abonnement bij me voor “daily free serotonin” en katten zijn gewoon zo leuk. Hier, jullie krijgen ook een “test trial”:

Ook heeft Jonathan de Ier veel stres. Hij heeft mega veel vakken. Ik ben ook maar weer verder gegaan naar het onderzoeken van de dood. Blijkbaar is er een wetenschappelijk journal over de dood genaamd Mortality.

En toen ik voor de zoveelste keer het voornemen had om vroeg te slapen, zag ik dat Victor mij had toegevoegd op Facebook. Toch goed dat ik die vreselijke site nog gebruik. 

Sleep who idk her? We hebben tot 3:00 gepraat over musicals en films en Animal Crossing. Yup, hij heeft ook Animal Crossing. Hij heeft zelfs de fancy nieuwe special edition Animal Crossing Switch.

Goed, oké, ik was vergeten dat deze post er nog was. Gisteren vond ik deze blog: https://socialcontextglee.tumblr.com/. Het zijn allemaal screencaps van glee in Corona tijd.

Inmiddels is het 13:31 en ik ben terug van de uni. Yeah, de uni. Ik moest nog dingen printen en ik ging kijken of de print shop open was, want die bij de Mercator was dicht.

De faciliteiten bij de faculteit zijn weer open, dus ook de print shop. Ik moet morgen terug voor Barbara, maar nu heb ik eindelijk mijn Mobility Form kunnen ondertekenen en ik heb het alweer opgestuurd naar Patrick van de RU. Huppa.

Op weg terug naar huis zag ik deze shits:

En nu ga ik verder met leren, want mijn GLINT examen is op maandag. Hoera. En mijn werkstuk voor MC is bijna klaar (denk ik?) en daarna verder met de dood. Oh en shit, Professionalisering.

The Battle of Rafa, also known as the Action of Rafah, fought on 9 January 1917, was the third and final battle to complete the recapture of the Sinai Peninsula by British forces during the Sinai and Palestine campaign of the First World War. The Desert Column of the Egyptian Expeditionary Force (EEF) attacked an entrenched Ottoman Army garrison at El Magruntein to the south of Rafah, close to the frontier between the Sultanate of Egypt and the Ottoman Empire, to the north and east of Sheikh Zowaiid. The attack marked the beginning of fighting in the Ottoman territory of Palestine.

After the British Empire victories at the Battle of Romani in August 1916 and the Battle of Magdhaba in December, the Ottoman Army had been forced back to the southern edge of Palestine as the EEF pushed eastwards supported by extended lines of communication. This advance depended on the construction of a railway and a water pipeline. With the railway reaching El Arish on 4 January 1917, an attack on Rafa by the newly-formed Desert Column became possible. During the day-long assault, the Ottoman garrison defended El Magruntein's series of fortified redoubts and trenches on rising ground surrounded by flat grassland. They were eventually encircled by Australian Light Horsemen, New Zealand mounted riflemen, mounted yeomanry, cameliers and armoured cars. In the late afternoon, the New Zealand Mounted Rifles Brigade captured the central redoubt and the remaining defences were occupied shortly afterwards.

Both applauded, and despised ......

 Born 147 years ago, today, 9th May 1873, Howard Carter received notoriety for being the English archaeologist who excavated the tomb of the Egyptian Boy Pharaoh, Tutankhamen. Born a sickly child to Samuel and Martha Joyce Sands Carter, he was educated as an artist by his father. In about 1891, he met Percy Edward Newberry, an active member of the London-based Egypt Exploration Fund. Seeking an artist to copy the art within tombs for the EEF, Newberry, on behalf of the recommendation of Lord Amherst, asked him to be that artist. After orientation at the British Museum, he traveled with Newberry for Egypt in October of 1891.

 At the age of 25, he was offered the position of Inspector General of Monuments for Upper Egypt by the Director of the Egyptian Antiquities Service, Gaston Maspero. His duties included in this position the oversight and regulation of all excavations in the Nile valley. In 1905, his position as Inspector General came to an abrupt end when a dispute between him and a group of drunken French tourists erupted.

 His life took a downturn sustaining with meager existence through his art until about 1908, when he was introduced to the Fifth Earl of Carnarvon. Carnarvon was very interested in Egypt antiquities and though he had the funding, he did not have the know-how needed for such a project, thus they began a partnership.  In their first season together, Carter discovered the decorated tomb of Tetiky, an early 18th Dynasty mayor of Thebes, and another tomb containing wooden tablets inscribed with the precepts of Ptahhotep, a series of instructions for moral guidance, and the text on the expulsion of the Hyksos by a 17th Dynasty pharaoh. Their success led to an expanded concession, and subsequent seasons led to the discovery a series of important private tombs dating from the end of the Middle Kingdom to the beginning of the New Kingdom, and temples built by Hatshepsut and Ramses IV, as well as the tomb believed to have been prepared for the pharaoh Amenhotep I and his mother, Ahmose-Nofretiri. With all these finds, his main goal was to unearth Tutankhamen, the 18th dynasty boy king, whose site of burial he believed still existed in a nearly complete state, had not yet been found.

 Starting in 1915, years of searching for Tutankhamen came and went. Finally Carnarvon, having lost hope and much money, suggested that they discontinue the search for Tutankhamen. Carter would not surrender, and persuaded Carnarvon to finance for one more season, beginning on November 1, 1922. Three days after the season began, Carter discovered the first step to King Tutankhamen's tomb. Since the late arrival by Carnarvon and the mandatory delicateness of the excavator's work, it took the party until November 26th to finally reach the seals, which had guarded King Tutankhamen's tomb for two thousand years. Beyond those seals were hundreds of ancient treasures sparkling with gold within the rooms of Tutankhamen's tomb, so many that it took a decade for him to unearth and catalog them all.

 Once the last object was sent to the Cairo Museum and the excavation of Tutankhamen was closed, Carter retired to an isolated life with failing health and the enjoyment of antiquities collecting. When he could be found in Egypt at the Winter Palace Hotel in Luxor, he avoided people, talking to no one. He returned to England and died of cardiac failure a complication of lymphoma.

 97 years ago on 16th February 1923, Howard Carter opened the sealed doorway and found that it did indeed lead to a burial chamber, and he got his first glimpse of the sarcophagus of Tutankhamun. The tomb was considered the best preserved and most intact pharaonic tomb ever found in the Valley of the Kings, and the discovery was eagerly covered by the world's press, but most of their representatives were kept in their hotels, much to their annoyance. Only H. V. Morton of The Times was allowed on the scene, and his vivid descriptions helped to cement Carter's reputation with the British public.

 Towards the end of February 1923 a rift between Lord Carnarvon and Carter, probably caused by a disagreement on how to manage the supervising Egyptian authorities, temporarily closed excavation. Work recommenced in early March after Lord Carnarvon apologised to Carter. Later that month Lord Carnarvon contracted blood poisoning while staying in Luxor near the tomb site. He died in Cairo on 5 April 1923. Lady Carnarvon retained her late husband's concession in the Valley of the Kings, allowing Carter to continue his work.

 Carter's painstaking cataloguing of the thousands of objects in the tomb continued until 1932, most being moved to the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. There were a number of breaks in the work, including one lasting nearly a year in 1924-25, caused by to a dispute over what Carter saw as excessive control of the excavation by the Egyptian Antiquities Service. The Egyptian authorities eventually agreed that Carter should complete the tomb's clearance.

 Despite being involved in the greatest archaeological find of his time, Carter received no honour from the British government. However, in 1926, Carter received the Order of the Nile, third class, from King Fuad I of Egypt.

 Carter had authored a number of books on Egyptology during his career. During those years he had also been awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Science by Yale University and honorary membership in the Real Academia de la Historia of Madrid, Spain.

The Struggles of a Male Veela (Part 2 - Selene Morgenstern)

Louis knew this was his soulmate, someone whom he felt a compulsion to be around. He felt the need to care for this person, like he did with the members of his family – but the need was stronger, if possible. He desperately wanted to love this girl, to be the person to help her when she needed, and be at her side as she went through life. Louis especially wanted to hold her hand, and press loving kisses to her lips…

“Again; very sorry for running into you!” The girl then hurried off, towards two middle aged females who were standing near a cart. Like others on the platform, the cart was topped by luggage, and a large grey owl, who was hooting away in a bronzed cage.

“Mate,” There was a pause, “What just happened?” Teddy Lupin was now trying to steady his ‘cousin’, as it honestly looked as if Louis was about to fall over. The younger boy was now being enclosed by his family, who were all concerned about the shortness of his breath, and the fact he seemed dazed. Meanwhile, he was trying to look around everyone’s heads, hoping to catch another glimpse of that girl.

His mother was pressing her hands to his reddened cheeks, “Ma cherie, are you feeling alright?” Fleur noticed his gaze was not on any of those trying to converse with him, but rather, it was focussed on a small family about five metres away. She looked intently at the small family, the girl was kissing the women on the cheeks, before getting onto the train. The Frenchwoman paused for a moment, as she realised what was occurring, before she let a large smile crowd her gorgeous face. “Ah!” Fleur exclaimed happily, effectively startling the others around her.

“Love?” Bill was now addressing his wife, noticing her attentions were now on the same family that Louis was looking at. “What’s going on?”

“’e ‘as found ‘is soulmate!”

Many of the family, who were understanding of the situation, let out surprised, but pleased, noises. To many on the platform, particularly those who didn’t know them, they just seemed like that dramatic family who over-dramatised every event in their lives – which they totally were.

Albus, however, was not one of these people, the ones who gasped. Instead he rolled his eyes at their actions. Sure, he was happy for his cousin, but there was honestly no reason to react so dramatically, in his opinion anyway. It was sort of obvious that Louis would have a ‘mate’, as all full veelas do. Why was it surprising it was someone his age, who went to the same school? And besides, he was pretty sure that they even shared some classes… if his vast knowledge was correct. “Well, as fun as this discovery was, we need to board, or we’ll miss the train.” His cool voice reminded him that he should probably find his friends…

His words jolted those of whom had to get on the train, out of their reveries. The children who were to board, began to hastily gather their luggage, pets, bags, etc.

“Bye mum, dad, love you!” Albus kissed his mother’s cheek, and hugged his dad briefly, before hopping onto the red train. He had to find Scorpius Malfoy, and Frankie Zabini, two of his Slytherin friends whom he hadn’t seen for most of the summer – due to their parents not being happy with their friendship to the son of the ‘saviour’.

After a few moments, all the rest of the clan followed in Albus’s footsteps, hugged their parents’ goodbye. There was a point where Rose nearly left her wand, which Hermione held onto until she ran back off the train for it. “Don’t forget to write!” Was shouted after them, as their mothers parroted the words they were told each year.

“Ma cherie,” Fleur pulled her eldest to the side momentarily, whilst there were a few minutes left before the train finally pulled out of the station, “Owl me ‘eef you need me!” Her tone was completely serious, and Louis found himself nodding at her, his face mimicking her seriousness. Despite their solemn tones, and faces, there was clear excitement shining in both of their eyes.

“I will mum, love you!”

Louis rushed off as soon as he could, he had to find her. He wasn’t even thinking about it, he was following what his body believed to be right. It was an easy process too, even with his twin sister clearly following behind him. He followed his gut to the very back of the train, somewhat relying on his veela-ness to help. Louis paused, his Gryffindor bravery failing him for a second, as he reached the last carriages.

Everyone knew that the Slytherins’ sat at the back of the Hogwarts express.

Victoire eventually caught up to him, having her suspicions as to what he was doing, but also being a lot slower than him physically, now that he’s a full veela. “Is she down here?” She asked him a bit hesitantly, as well as slightly breathy. She knew as well as he did, that this meant ‘his’ girl was most probably a Slytherin.

Even after all these years there’s a stigma about Slytherins’ – probably amplified due to what happened during the war. This was especially true about their family. The Potter-Weasley’s still weren’t too trusting of Slytherins.

When Albus was sorted into Slytherin, there seemed to be an immediate change in him.

Many in his family saw it negatively, saw it as him becoming ‘evil’. Rather, it was merely him absorbing the personalities of his friends, to further expand his own. All children did it when they reached their teens, as that’s how kids began to form who they are during these years. Unfortunately, most Slytherin purebloods are taught from a young age, to not be conceived as weak – this usually culminates in the slightly unemotional personalities, or cold exteriors, that the rest of the wizarding world sees.

Obviously, the energetic, emotional personalities of the Weasley-Potter clan clashed heavily with the cooler, less dramatic personality of Albus after this process.

The pair were walking down the train hallway slowly, when Louis suddenly stopped, causing Victoire to bump into his back. “She’s in here.” The second-to-last carriage held the girl who was Louis perfect match, he could both sense her, and smell her – the scent of her skin was tropical. Mangoes and coconuts. Louis assumed this was due to a body wash or soap, and shamefully, it led to him wondering slightly inappropriate thoughts about her. He wondered…

“What are you two doing?” Albus and his friends had managed to sneak up on the older twins, whilst the younger was waiting on the elder to stop daydreaming. Scorpius Malfoy and Frankie Zabini stood either side of the young dark haired Potter, both looking at them confused. Most of the members of the Weasley family avoided Slytherins, as old grudges are hard to abandon they’d found, so they were confused by their presence down the ‘Slytherin’ end of the train.

Victoire smiled slightly, low-key adoring her cousin and his friends. They looked cute to her, trying to seem tougher and meaner than they truly were. It vaguely reminded her of when she and her cousins played pretend, as young children. “His ‘soulmate’ is in there.” She gestured with her thumb behind her shoulder, to the carriage door that was shut, glass obscured by the ugly curtains that matched the ugly fabric of the train seats.

Louis was staring at the closed door, as he began to realise what Victoire said was true. His perfect match was in there, and he had no idea what he should say to her…

Victoire continued, as if her brother’s internal battle wasn’t happening, “Do you know who she is, Albus?”

That jolted Louis out of his state. He whipped around to look at his younger cousin in awe, the possibility of learning more about this girl too much for him. “You know her?”

“The girl who knocked you over, your ‘soulmate’,” Albus put quotation marks around the word, making it seem as if he didn’t believe, but really, he was just teasing, “Her name is Selene Morgenstern.”

“Selene… Morgenstern.” Louis repeated the name, loving the way it sounded on his lips. It was an elegant name, too. He found himself wondering if she was pure-blooded. Obviously, it didn’t matter to his ‘blood-traitor’ family, or to him, if she was. “Selene…”

Victoire stared at her brother, who was began mouthing the words silently. “Are you okay?” She questioned him, looking at him like he was crazy. Honestly, ever since he transformed, he’s been weird – not that he wasn’t odd before the changing. The two twins were very close, and they’d always gotten along, but Louis was always more of an oddity, compared to her. After a moment, he stopped mouthing the name and just stared at the compartment door. “Louis, are you going in?” He was loitering and several people passing by had begun to look at him, but he wasn’t paying attention to anything but the door.

“Yes!”

Louis’s exclamation was louder than necessary, and caught the attention of those inside the compartment. “Hello?”

The door had opened to reveal several sets of eyes, but the only one of note, according to Louis’s brain, was Selene’s. They stood out vividly to him. Louis was still stood in the same place he was before the door opened, meaning he was now stood very close to Selene. Closer than he felt was necessary, so he forced himself a step back. He didn’t want to make he feel uncomfortable! Hopefully, later in their relationship (he hoped), he’d get to be as close to her, as his biology was begging him to be.

“Oh, it’s you!”

“Who is it, Sel?”

“Yeah, Sellie, tell us who the gentleman caller is!” The two females behind Selene, who looked closely related (Victoire noticed, Louis was busy trying to not be too obvious in his staring), had teasing tones to their voices. To those that had known them, these girls would have reminded anyone of a young Fred and George Weasley (unfortunately, none of these children had known them both, together). Their nicknames for the girl were obviously mocking, as the female in question gave them faux-glares in return.

Another head popped up behind the girls, a male who had his own teasing tone, “Miss Selene, the nerve of it all! You have gentleman callers coming to you, immediately after you tell us you weren’t seeing someone!” His joking was dramatic, like many people Louis knew, “The betrayal, the lies! Where will it end?” He put his hand to his forehead, and clutched one of the siblings to his chest (with said sibling pretending to cry).

“Oh, sod off, Boot!” Selene called back to her dramatic friends, before turning back to those at the door. She smiled when she noticed the sweet, dazed, look on the boy’s face. “Can we help you?” The question was left open, but her eyes did not leave the sharp angles of Louis’s face.

There wasn’t a response from him, though, or any of the children behind him. After a moment, Louis was prompted by his sister’s elbow digging into his side, “Hi.”

Behind him, Albus let out a silent groan, leaning into Scorpius’s shoulder to hide his face from viewing the wreckage in front of him. Frankie and Scorpius both hid their small smirks behind their hands. The Weasley’s were too funny.

Victoire wasn’t mute with her second-hand embarrassment, “Oh Merlin, Louis!” She pushed his back, moving him slightly out of her way, “Hi, I’m Victoire Weasley, this is Scorpius Malfoy, Frankie Zabini, and my cousin, Albus Potter.” The blonde gestured to those slightly behind her, then her cousin in front of her, “And this is my brother, Louis.”

Selene nodded, already knowing this – they were descendants of the most famous people in the wizarding world, and several people from her Hogwarts house. “We know.” There was an awkward silence, that no-one filled, so, “Can we help you, then?”

For a moment, Louis was filled with an odd desperation he’d never felt before. “I wanted to apologise! For earlier…” He looked away from her face, trying to grasp onto any semblance of sanity, after his outburst. Louis felt like his brain wasn’t working, or rather; it was working at nearly ten-percent of its usual capacity. “I shouldn’t have been standing in your way. I wanted to make sure you weren’t hurt, that’s all!”

Selene Morgenstern wasn’t naïve, she knew the incident had been her entire fault. She’d been rushing, and barely managed to stutter out her apology, before she ran off. Her parents had teased her when she reached them, as running into the ‘saviours’ family wasn’t acceptable behaviour for a Morgenstern to have, but also not caring too much either. Louis, at that moment, reminded her of a young boy, talking to someone he admired greatly. He was nervous, avoiding eye-contact, and had trouble speaking to her. Plus, he’d come with back-up. So, Louis Weasley either fancied her, or he possibly arrived at her compartment to start a fight. The first was more likely.

“I’m fine.” Selene was quick to answer, if only to shorten this awkward meeting between the sweet blonde boy, and their voyeur friends. “You don’t have to worry about me, I’m not a fragile person!” The Morgenstern heir knew this wasn’t exactly true, as she was easily emotionally manipulated – but those ‘adopt-a-panda’ adverts were sad!

“Oh, okay!” Louis answered, looking both relieved that he hadn’t hurt his soulmate, and slightly sad that he didn’t really have a reason to stand there talking to her, now. “I-I guess I’ll see you around, then…” He trailed off, his eyes questioning whether what he said was the truth. Would he see her again?

Albus barely controlled himself from shouting; ‘of course you will, you daft hippogriff!’. They were a Gryffindor and a Slytherin, in the same year! They shared so many classes, due to their teachers attempts to create ‘unity’. Albus kept it to himself, though, for now.

“Y-Yeah, I guess you will.” Only Selene’s close friends caught her slip, and all three looked at each other with glee. After all, the strong Slytherin only really stuttered when she was nervous… and why would Selene Morgenstern be nervous at the mere thought of seeing Louis Weasley, in the future? Hmm…

The BBC’s weekly The Boss series profiles a different business leader from around the world. This week we speak to Tom Davies, founder of his eponymous eyewear company.

Tom Davies sat in front of Rome’s Colosseum and drank a beer to toast a sale that was about to transform his glasses business.

The British spectacles designer had flown to the Italian capital in 2004 at the behest of the boss of a global electronics giant, who was on holiday in Europe.

The chief executive had seen a pair of Tom’s £5,000 handmade, made-to-measure glasses featured in a fashion magazine, and wanted to take a closer look.

“So I walked into his hotel room and opened up my colour chart [that showed all 34 colours that the frame was available in],” says Tom, who was 30 at the time.

“And he just said, ‘Great, I’ll have one of each.’ It was a transformational moment for the business.”

Taking £170,000 in that one order, Tom says he was able to use the funds to significantly expand the business he had set up in London two years previously.

Today the company, TD Tom Davies, makes 50,000 pairs of glasses a year, and has a host of celebrity customers including singer Ed Sheeran, chef Heston Blumenthal and Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie.

Not a bad state of affairs for a former art student from the East Midlands city of Derby who never actually intended to become a glasses designer.

Graduating from the University of East Anglia in 1996, Tom decided to travel to Hong Kong with a friend.

“It was a big adventure,” he says. “I had just £200 in my pocket, but I was able to get a job in a bar while living at the most horrible hostel you had ever seen.

“Then I just started to apply for as many design jobs as possible, something I could use my art degree for.”

One interview Tom went for was at a Hong Kong watch-making business that was planning to branch out into making glasses, and wanted someone to design them.

“I had never planned to design glasses, but the boss of the company was so passionate about them,” says Tom. “He told me that it was a very worthwhile thing to do, because glasses define you, they are the first thing people notice about you.”

So taking the job, Tom was asked to produce a range of glasses. The problem was that he had no idea how to do it.

“I had to learn fast,” he says. “I started by buying a magazine, Vogue, and drew glasses on the model on the front cover.

“Then I started asking customers at the bar where I had worked what sort of glasses they wanted, and designed frames for them. I really got into it.”

Thankfully for Tom he was a fast learner, and sales soon took off, with the company making glasses for a number of different brands. By the time he left the firm in 2000 to return to the UK, he says it was selling 20,000 frames a month.

He went back to the UK planning to set up his own glasses business, but needing a steady income he says he got sidetracked and ended up running a more diverse design company that designed everything from product packaging to websites.

It was not until two years later, in 2002, that he was able to focus entirely on glasses and launch TD Tom Davies. He would design the eyewear in London, but without the funds to set up a factory and train craftsmen and women he would contract out the actual manufacturing to a company in Japan.

Sales started to increase slowly through word of mouth, and then jumped after he was featured in the Financial Times newspaper’s How To Spend It luxury goods supplement.

In 2008 he could finally afford to start a factory in China, and two years ago he opened one in Brentford, west London. The company is now in the process of shifting all production to the UK by 2021.

It currently employs 100 people in the UK and 100 in China.

“Being a British business, it has always been the aim to make everything here,” says Tom. “It is important.”

That’s a sentiment that is welcomed by the UK manufacturing organisation, the EEF, who says it is “pleasing” to see Tom bring production to the UK.

Tom’s bespoke spectacles take three weeks to design and make, with prices as high as £10,000. However, the firm now also sells much cheaper off-the-peg glasses, and its annual turnover is said to be around £10m.

Brand expert Rebecca Battman says that Tom’s glasses, like other bespoke fashion items, help celebrities create a unique look.

“If you are in the public eye you want to stand out, you are always looking for something different and unique,” she says. “And you also have the back story of knowing that they have been made especially for you.”

For us mere mortals Tom says he wants people to at least spend more time picking their glasses.

“The average amount of time a person spends choosing their new pair of glasses is just seven minutes,” he says. “For something that will define them for the next two to three years.

“That is bonkers. People spend longer picking a new pair of shoes or pair of jeans.”

Binance Launches Mobile Market Tracker

Binance, the largest crypto exchange by daily trading volume, has launched a new market intelligence application. The beta version of Binance Info is now available for both Android and iOS devices, the company announced on Twitter. According to its page, Binance Info provides comprehensive project information and market data for more than 1,200 digital coins and tokens, including their issue price, ICO date and circulating supply. It supports both fiat and crypto pricing with multiple base currencies to choose from and offers users real-time charts and indicators.

The launch of the mobile market tracker is part of a series of new announcements by the Chinese-run trading platform in the past few weeks. News.Bitcoin.com reported last week that Binance is setting up a fiat-to-crypto exchange in Liechtenstein through a joint venture with LCX. Also announced was a new educational portal in beta – Binance Academy. The platform is an open access learning hub supported by the Binance team. The exchange is reportedly also exploring opportunities to invest in a ”decentralized” bank in Malta.

Exchange Ready in Just Two Weeks

An IT company, specialized in software development for the fintech sector, has recently launched a platform that allows clients to create their own cryptocurrency exchange, fast and easy, the Russian Bitcrypto News reports. Softfx, which provides services to forex and crypto brokers, dealers, banks and investment funds, claims that with its modular solution customers can have their trading platform up and running within two weeks after presenting their requirements.

The Exchange platform comes with useful functionalities like automated purchases and sales of digital assets, crypto-based CFD trading, integration with a number of payment systems including Webmoney, Skrill, Qiwi, and Yandex Money, as well as wallets supporting cryptocurrencies like bitcoin core (BTC), litecoin (LTC), ethereum (ETH), and ripple (XRP). Companies can also add their own coins issued through ICOs, including ERC20 tokens. The developers promise high level of security and encryption for users’ personal information, financial data and funds, as well as protection against hacking and DDoS attacks.

Shariah Crypto Platform Launches in UAE

Adab Solutions, a company based in the United Arab Emirates, has created a Shariah compliant cryptocurrency trading platform named First Islamic Crypto Exchange (FICE). Striving to adhere to “the high moral requirements set forth by the Shariah community,” the company has decided to create an in-house Shariah Advisory Board in order to “ensure that Islam is finally included in the global cryptocurrency market.”

The Board has been created as an independent body including internationally recognized Shariah experts, the Arabian Business Community reported. Their role will be to provide inputs on Shariah matters and help FICE comply with Shariah principles. Adab Solutions hopes to not only ensure high quality of exchange services but also support the inclusion of Muslim crypto enthusiasts and traders into the space.

Russian Region Issues Its Amurcoin

Amur Oblast, a region located in Russia’s Far East, has emitted 1 million of its own tokens called Amurcoins. The cryptos will be used by participants in the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) scheduled to take place September 11 – 13, 2018 in Vladivostok. EEF has become a major platform for the presentation of new strategies to develop and promote political, economic and cultural links between the Russian Federation and countries from the Asia-Pacific region.

EEF guests will be rewarded with Amurcoins for every stride they make at the venue of the event, Bitnovosti reports. They can use the tokens to purchase and pay for a variety of goods and services, from souvenirs and ice cream, to renting a hotel room. The experiment, supported by local crypto enthusiasts and their friends from Moscow, is intended to help visitors better understand what blockchain is, how cryptocurrencies work, and also present Amur as an innovative, high-tech hub. The Oblast is home to the first Russian digital economy school and is currently building an international blockchain center.
