I’ve been having a lot of thoughts pertaining to what will happen in season 5 relating to byler recently, as have we all, but I’ve also been wondering about the audience’s reaction to it if it happens.

Before season 4 came out, I sort of was a fan of byler, but i was very very casual, as in I didn’t interact with many fan theories, I wasn’t on twitter (still not on there because I have a phobia of negativity eek) and I wasn’t on tumblr, I would occasionally check out the edits and fanarts and I think I was just Aware of it, because I always root for the gay ship to happen ofc..

So when season 4 vol. 1 came out I was excited about the direction they were taking byler, and I could see that it was finally canon that Will was gay, rather than theorised. When season 4 vol. 2 came out, I had not been on sttwt or st tumblr during the time between the volumes because I had other fandoms prioritised around the time. By the end of season 4, I was like YES! this season was amazing for a byler set up next season, although i was more focused on other characters too. I then kind of saw the byler script stuff but not the full extent of it, and I saw many edits and fanarts of them but that was it!

Now it’s 2024 and I have a major hyperfixation on byler, (due to the season 5 bts and the fact stranger things keeps popping up on my fyp it’s crazy) and now I’m on byler tumblr (not twt tho .. sorry) to find all the evidence I can and get all hyped up for s5! But I’ve also seen old posts from around 2022…

Literally every single one was extremely disappointed from season 4 vol. 2, and I was confused, seeing as I was very happy with it and I liked byler (my fave byler scene is from vol. 2 and no it’s not the van scene). If I’m being totally honest, and I might get some hate for this, I think we all had wildly, wildly high expectations and the disappointment was our own doing.

I personally never really judge a show before it’s finished (obviously not sitcoms and shows like that) unless it has really really terrible writing ofc, but I always choose to reserve judgement until all the character arcs are wrapped up and I can look back and see why things were made to be.

I understand the whole anger with Mike’s behaviour towards Will and how Will was treated poorly by him, but isn’t that the point? Mike loving Will back in season 5 would then be more satisfying after all that. It’s a set-up for the next season, no?

I don’t know why or how people thought that Mike would suddenly resolve all his internalised homophobia or something during that season, and I reckon if the whole season had come out at once instead of two volumes (i hate the two volumes thing sm omg) people would have been much happier because we wouldn’t have had time to create insane theories or unrealistic expectations that, let’s be real, were not in line with what we have seen so far with byler.

So, I just want to say that I’m a little afraid for season 5, because I know that byler will likely be canon, but people just won’t be happy because it won’t be in the exact way that they had theorised. Sorry to break it to you, but you, random person on tumblr, are not a screen writer. More specifically, you’re not a screen writer for stranger things.

I think it’s fun to theorise at the moment, but I just want to remind people that this pattern has happened before and we never learn? Like, none of our theories are coming true. Not one of them. Did I theorise the exact van scene? Did I theorise the part at the end where Mike grabs Will’s shoulder? No. But am I happy with those scenes? Hell yeah.

So on the build up to season 5, I just want to caution everyone to not assume that specific things are going to happen when it’s just a result of an echochamber (such as the milkvan breakup scene being right at the beginning or the painting being brought up). You’ll just be angry for no good reason.

The only reasons I’m personally going to be angry with how they handle byler is:

1. If it’s not canon and Will’s love goes unrequited/ he has another love interest somehow…

2. If either of them die after having a relationship during season 5 (bury your gays is stUPID)

3. If one of them dies before the other gets to tell them they love them/ kiss

4. If they get together without Mike apologising (it could be in literally any way, obvious or not) for his poor behaviour.

But that’s it, the rest of it is literally up to them.

I used to watch Mo Dao Zu Shi a little bit back in 2020 when the LA is hyped but since i was a big weeb i watched the donghua ofc. I know that theres an LA but im not intersted, i even only watched like first 4 episodes of the donghua because i didnt know it was a BL lol, and i dont understand the storyline.

After i rediscover The Untamed... i thought, oh right this is that LA of that BL donghua i watched years ago, and the actors who played the main character is the two most famous actor of china (that i know of). After then, i sorta looked up LOCH and XZ on TikTok, that at some point The Untamed and Yizhan contents keep popping up, i began to be influenced to watch The Untamed, and so i did...

I watched The Untamed for the very first time in the end of March 2025, im so invested that i finished the whole thing in 2 days lol, my eyes hurts so much but its worth it. I really liked The Untamed even until now, the storyline and everything, i look up for The Untamed edits because im not that satisfied with those 50 episodes. And yeah after that, contents about yizhan keeps on slippin in my fyp. I thought, wow no wonder their chemistry in the drama is so good, their relationship off cam is also good, but i start seeing that their interaction is a bit odd to be just a friend, but i didnt really care back then, all i care is that i love seeing their interaction behind the scene.

That is until i discover 227 incident... i was so heartbroken discovering that incident. I mean... what do you mean XZ and WYB have no interaction at all after that?? Unacceptable!! 😭. I couldnt accept this fact so i tried digging in deeper. Cause why? U guys were so close, u were good friends, even more than that it seems to me back then. I look up turtles video about them, watching candies and cpn about them to cope 😔. After watching all of those candies i became even more confused of their relationship, what are they? Too intimate to be just friends, yet too 'brotherly' to be a lovers. I havent become a turtle yet, because im still not sure if theyre szd.

So after watching, reading, some candies, cpn, and rumors... i feel like its inevitable to not accept that theyre szd. I mean, its so obvious! The way they treat each other is so special, okay about that alone, maybe theyre just a really really really good friend. But there are also too much suspicious moments between them, and also the fact that they never denied any dating rumors between them and never shut down the bjyx supertopic. Also that tencent award 2020 incident where WYB peeking at XZ 🥺🥺. There are just too much coincidence and rumors between them, that at least one of those rumors gotta be real!

For now, i really hope that im right about them, that theyre szd. I hope theyre happy together and someday find the courage to be who they are, and live without pressure from the media. So.. thats my story of becoming a turtle, thanks for reading.

People also enjoy different types of content, i.e., yt videos or streams. With streaming, you also get a different type of George. For example, it's real time and not edited - which can make someone seem less entertaining and slightly annoying.

Also, small rant, I apologise in advance if this is an unpopular opinion, but it's along the lines of your comment: "There's so much new content of him daily."😂

There's multiple TikTok accounts making clips of George, the repeated pictures, videos, and content being posted in private clarking and their are multiple update accounts giving us a run down of every single thing George posts or does. Again, I understand this is part of a growing fan base, but it does make it less enjoyable. You can really see the mechanics behind social media and fandoms at that point.

Maybe it's just me? Or maybe I just lose interest when the drama and chaos start.😂

you walk over to him and you watch the video together, the camera fell down 30 seconds in

you came across the tiktok and you decided it would be funny to do on taehyun

he doesn't usually go on tiktok as much as you unless hes making a tiktok for MOA

but he doesn't scroll and watch them because they're not too fun for him

you see your boyfriend stand up from his seat in the kitchen and begin to wash his dishes meaning he might come over to you

perfect, you thought to yourself

"tyun baby can you come over here when you're done"

you set your phone besides you on the coffee table making sure it was filming properly

he walks over and sits next to you, he gives you a smile and squeezes your hand before turning on the tv and putting the remote on the ground besides his foot

after a few passing minutes of playful banter and short conversations you get on the ground

taehyun looks down thinking nothing of it until you CRAWL INBETWEEN HIS LEGS

taehyun snickers and laughs at you, "y/n what're you doing?"

you contain your laughter and sit on your knees tying your hair and look up at him
