so for this post from ovegakart i'm imagining spell rules going along these lines...
Nayru's Shield: Level 3 Abjuration Casting Time: 1 Action Range: Self Components: V, S, M (A blessing from a Great Fairy worth 500 rupees) Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute The love and protection of the goddess Nayru shields you. You gain resistance to all damage for the duration. Additionally, this spell also summons a magic shield into your hand, granting the benefits of wielding a shield even if you are not proficient with shields. If you do not have a free hand, the shield does not appear, and this benefit is not granted. Finally, this spell also generates an emanation of protection around you, granting a +1 bonus to AC for any ally inside it, you excepted.
Nayru's Mirror: Level 3 Abjuration Casting Time: 1 Action Range: Self Components: V, S, M (A blessing from a Great Fairy worth 1000 rupees) Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute The love and protection of the goddess Nayru reflects damage directed at you. You gain resistance to all damage for the duration. Additionally, creatures of your choice within 5 feet of you must make a Dexterity saving throw, taking 2d6 force damage on a failed save or half as much damage on a successful save, as shards of Nayru's protection strike them. Finally, ranged weapon attacks and ranged spell attacks that hit you are reflected off of you after dealing their damage, striking the original attacker for half their damage.
Notes: I split Nayru's Love into two spells, for Link and for Zelda. For Link: I figure this should be a hefty spell given the immense benefits it offers, but still accessible to an Eldritch Knight like Link. So I made it level 3. I'm also not sure about the concentration on it, since you can get smacked but it doesn't drop, I just wanted to make it slightly less busted by making it eat the caster's Concentration. For Zelda: More offensive, I originally thought like Armor of Agathys but re-read the handwriting and realized lol nope. So I made it so enemies who attack and hit you take the half damage that the shield stops you from eating.
Farore's Wind: Level 3 Conjuration Casting Time: 1 Action Range: Self Components: V, S, M (A blessing from a Great Fairy worth 100 rupees) Duration: Instantaneous Briefly surrounded by the divine gales of the goddess Farore, you teleport to a location within sight. Using a Higher-Level Spell Slot: You can teleport to any location you know within 1000 feet (4th level spell slot), any location you know within 5 miles (5th level spell slot), any location you know within 100 miles (6th level spell slot), or to any location you know on this plane of existence (7th level spell slot). If you cast this spell at 5th level or higher, there is a cumulative 15% chance for each level above 4th it is cast at (up to 45% with a 7th level spell slot) for a mishap to occur, sending you to a false destination. Holding or carrying an object linked to the intended destination removes this chance.
Notes: I figure the inspiration spells for this should be Misty Step (but range increased to 'anywhere within sight'), Dimension Door (range increased), and Teleport. It's a sort of catch-all spell. The only issue is that, in order to make it NOT BUSTED AS FUCK (which is already is tbh), I had to level-scale it, which seriously kneecaps Link as an Eldritch Knight. I also had to add in that a mishap can occur because even Teleport isn't perfect.
Din's Fire Level 3 Evocation Casting Time: 1 Action Range: Self Components: V, S, M (A blessing from a Great Fairy worth 300 rupees) Duration: Instantaneous An explosion of Din's holy flames blasts from you in a 20-foot emanation. Each creature in this emanation makes a Dexterity saving throw, taking 8d6 fire damage on a failed save or half as much damage on a successful one. Flammable objects in the area that aren't being worn or carried start burning. Using a Higher-Level Spell Slot: The damage increases by 1d6 for each slot level above 3.
Notes: It's Fireball as an emanation, why not.
Zelda's Light Level 3 Transmutation Casting Time: 1 Bonus Action Range: Touch Components: V, S Duration: 1 hour You touch a nonmagical weapon. Until the spell ends, that weapon becomes a magic weapon with a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls. Additionally, when a creature hits another creature with that weapon, a bright flash of light accompanies the strike. The target must make a Constitution saving throw (using the caster's spell save DC) or be blinded until the end of its next turn. This spell ends early if you cast it again. Using a Higher-Level Spell Slot. The bonus increases to +2, and the weapon deals an additional 3d6 radiant damage with a 4-6 level spell slot. The bonus increases to +3, and the weapon deals an additional 6d6 (instead of 3d6) radiant damage with a 7+ level spell slot.
Notes: It's magic weapon but added blinding and radiant.
Lens of Truth Wondrous Item, Very Rare (requires attunement) While wearing this lens over your eyes, you have Truesight with a range of 120 feet.
Notes: Should this be legendary? True Seeing is a 6th level divination spell, so maybe! I made it attunement so you can't just pass it between people for a free action or whatever and you need to know it well to use it.
BONUS POINTS (or rather, an edit)
Ocarina of Time Wondrous Item, Artifact This ocarina has been protected by the royal family of Hyrule for ages, and is said to have a powerful connection to the unnamed goddess of time. You can take a Magic action to play a song on the Ocarina of Time, with each song producing a different effect or casting a spell. You must know a song in order to play it.
Zelda's Lullaby – When you play this song, this Ocarina opens a magical lock, or has other magical effects based on other locations which specify this song. This song has no effect on nonmagical locks. Epona's Song – When you play this song, you can cast the spell Find Steed at its base level of 2. Saria's Song – When you play this song, you can cast the spell Sending. The only possible recipient of the spell when cast in this way is the Fey known as Saria. Sun's Song – When you play this song, you can cause day to become night or night to become day, depending on what time it is when you play it. The passage of this time is instantaneous to the Ocarina's player, and does not confer the benefits of a long or short rest, nor does it impose the penalties of forgoing a long rest. Song of Time – When you play this song, you can open the Door of Time or cause obstacles bearing the symbol of the goddess of time to permanently disappear. If this song is played in the realm of Termina, it has an entirely different effect: You can go back in time to a maximum of three days, although in doing so you must forfeit all ammunition (nonmagical and magical) and rupees to go back. Upon returning to the past, all magic item charges are restored, and you gain the benefits of a Long Rest. You cannot use the Song of Time again for another three days. Song of Storms – When you play this song, you can cause the weather around you to suddenly and inexplicably become intensely stormy and rainy, complete with thunder and lightning. This storm lasts for ten minutes, after which time it vanishes. Effects of the storm remain. Warp Songs – When you play any of these songs, you can cast the spell Teleportation Circle, with each song being linked to a specific circle and sending those who stand in the circle's area there: the Minuet of the Forest will send to Kokiri Forest; the Bolero of Fire will send to Death Mountain's crater; the Serenade of Water will send to Lake Hylia; the Nocturne of Shadow will send to the graveyard of Kakariko Village; the Requiem of Spirit will send to the Desert Colossus in the Gerudo Desert; and the Prelude of Light will send to the Temple of Time in Hyrule Castle Town. Scarecrow's Song – When you play this song, you magically summon a wooden scarecrow to a location you can see within 60 feet of you. The Scarecrow is a Construct with 10 HP, AC 10, a movement speed of 0 ft., and immunity to psychic and poison damage. It vanishes when you play this song again. Inverted Song of Time – When you play this song, you can cast the spell Haste on yourself. Song of Double Time – When you play this song, you can magically cause twelve hours of time to pass by. The passage of this time is instantaneous to the Ocarina's player, and does not confer the benefits of a long or short rest, nor does it impose the penalties of forgoing a long rest. Song of Healing – When you play this song, you can cast the spell Calm Emotions, with the added ability to affect any creature capable of having emotions as opposed to solely humanoids. Song of Soaring – When you play this song, you can cast the spell Dimension Door. Elegy of Emptiness – When you play this song, you can create a lifeless statue of yourself. This statue is an eerie reflection of you and weighs the same as you do. It is a Construct that has an amount of Hit Points equal to half your maximum Hit Points, your Armor Class, and it has immunity to psychic and poison damage. It is also incapable of moving on its own.
Notes: No Sonata of Awakening, Goron Lullaby, New Wave Bossa Nova, or Oath to Order because they have extremely specific purposes.
#fuck me why did i just do this#iunno! but i'm keeping it#Homebrew#D&D#edit: increased odds of a farore's wind mishap#cause reasons#edit 2: changed Din's Fire upcast benefit down to 1d6 per slot level#cause tbh 2d6 is OP#edit 3: Ocarina of Time.#edit 4: clarified the additional damage on upcasting Zelda's Light.

2019 sketchdump, part 6 - Misc. Fandom / Selfinsert Stuff
Arcana apprentice, ready to throw down to protect her lover.
Various selfinsert headshots. From left to right: Shepard (Mass Effect), Deputy (Far Cry 5), Sole Survivor (Fallout 4), Trevelyan (Dragon Age: Inquisition), Ego (FMA: Conqueror of Shamballa).
Deputy and Joseph literally butting heads, both of them either too stubborn or prideful to give up.
I don't even remember what game this was for. It was a mobile game in any case, and I happened to fancy one particular hunter in the harem.
Mood piece? Related to Helix Waltz. I kind of just gravitate to characters who look like Ed. Shocker.
Skyrim Dragonborn in vampire armor.
Saints Row 4 president, causing mayhem in the streets. Probably streaking.
Geralt of Rivia and... so far unnamed selfinsert.
Bully / Canis Canem Edit, getting picked on by one of the posh girls and immediately socking her in the face.
Concept for unnamed Witcher 3 selfinsert's doublet
More concept for clothes for the unnamed W3 selfinsert. Civilian clothes, work clothes, pyjamas
Selfinsert getting stabbed by Eddie Gluskin (Outlast: Whistleblower), of all people. I was having bad dreams about him at the time and just really needed to get it out on paper
Very basic sketch, supposed to be related to Far Cry 5, showing the Deputy hauling ass through the (invisible) woods to get away from the cultists trying to run her down.
Sketch of one of the cut NPC's from the Ocarina of Time beta.

Linked Universe Character Guide
I made this LU character guide for my friends and I thought it might be useful for any new LU fans out there! And also for anyone else who wants to info dump to friends about LU. So here you go :D
These characters are of course based on @linkeduniverse by Jojo! But, disclaimer, this does include some non-canon stuff (primarily the fandom nicknames and some War of Ages things) that’s common in fanfiction :). I made this for fun and for my friends so it includes my favorite tropes, canon and fanon.
Edit 4/4/23: Alt text and image descriptions added. Alt text only describes the official character art image (descriptions of all the images were too long for alt text and they were being cut off by my screen). Image text and other image descriptions are at the bottom of the post.
(key at the bottom)
Key:
Image text:

Please! Can you give us more LU in twilight’s hyrule?
More ancestor and descendant relationship between time and twilight! 🥹 *cries*
hehe I'm honored that you like my work so much and want more <3
unfortunately I already have a ton of other projects lined up, so I can't promise anything yet, but you did remind me that I wanted to write a bit of a second part to my Time and Skull Kid comic, so I whipped this up for you. it's not really edited or anything but hopefully you enjoy it anyway~
(here's the link to the comic that comes before this for anyone who hasn't seen it yet, please read it for context:
"Hold on, where's the old man?"
Twilight turned around sharply, drawing a surprised yelp from the sailor sitting on his shoulders. "What?"
"He was just here," said Four, "Did he just... wander off? That's not like him."
"Maybe he got grabbed by something!" Wind exclaimed, searching the dense foliage for any signs of monsters.
"We haven't seen any monsters since we arrived here, though," Hyrule said thoughtfully, “And we would have heard him put up a fight.”
Dread began to build in Twilight's chest as his wolfish senses caught the faintest sound of an ocarina. He lowered Wind from his back and approached Legend, pulling his map out and offering it to the veteran. "I'll go look for him. There's a Spirit Spring not far from here, wait for us there," he explained, tracing the path with his finger, "The tunnel up ahead is dark, so you'll need a lantern, but the tunnel after that is well lit and leads right to the spring. I'll be back soon."
"Hold your horses, rancher," Legend said, grabbing Twilight's shoulder with his free hand before the man could run off into the woods, "Shouldn't one of us come with you, just in case?"
"I... I think I know where he went," Twilight said softly, "Don't worry, I know every corner of these woods. Trust me."
Legend released Twilight's shoulder and watched as he almost immediately shifted into wolf form and darted back down the trail they had been following. He sighed and motioned to the rest of the group, glancing back at the map in his hand. "Well, come on then, guys."
*
Twilight raced along the scent trail, muscle memory carrying him effortlessly over tree roots and through small tunnels left by local wildlife. His ears flattened against his head in panic when he picked up Time's trail, heading in the exact direction he had predicted. Would he reach his mentor in time? Or had the man already discovered that which he should not see?
The plaintive whistle of the ocarina, which had been gradually increasing in volume, came to an abrupt halt, and Twilight's heart jumped in his chest as if to mimic it.
He was too late.
His paws slowed to a defeated trot as he approached the quiet clearing. He shifted back into his Hylian form, then silently crept through the bushes, bracing himself for what he would find.
Time knelt in the clearing with his back to Twilight, his arms wrapped around a very familiar little spirit. Just beyond them, a simple gravestone sat nestled in the mossy ground, the inscription on it as clear as the day it was chiseled:
Link, Hero and Mentor.
The spirit in Time's arms lifted his face from where it had been buried in the man's shoulder. Little yellow eyes met Twilight's pale blue ones, and the spirit gasped. “Link! Doggy Link is here too!”
Time turned in surprise, as if just remembering who he had been traveling with until ten minutes ago. He smiled at Twilight for a moment, but suddenly found it hard to make eye contact when he noticed the expression on his protege's face.
“Um, Skull Kid, would you give us a moment?” he asked softly, looking down at the spirit that was still clinging to him.
Skull Kid held on tighter, suddenly looking very scared that Time might simply vanish if he let go.
“I'm not going anywhere, I promise,” Time soothed, “I just need to talk to him. I'll stay right here, okay?”
Twilight nodded behind him.
Skull Kid studied Twilight for a moment, then looked up at Time. “...Okay,” he murmured. He picked up the ocarina he had dropped earlier and pressed it into Time's hand. “Play this when you are done, okay? You better play it!”
Time smiled. “I will.”
He watched Skull Kid hop off into the trees, then rose to his feet, cradling the little tan ocarina in his hand. His thumb ran over the polished surface, the texture so familiar yet such a distant memory. He looked back at the gravestone, suddenly regretting that time their little group had taught each other how to read their different Hylian scripts.
“Seems I've wandered somewhere I should not have gone, haven't I?” he sighed.
Twilight walked into the clearing and stood by Time's side, somberly following his mentor's gaze. “Did Skull Kid tell you anything?”
“No,” Time replied, “But actions often say more than words can.”
They stood there in silence for a moment, unsure how to approach the subject at hand.
Twilight opened his mouth to speak, but Time quickly raised a hand to stop him. “Pup, I will not ask for an explanation if you do not want to give it. The flow of time is all too easily altered after all, one little word can completely change the course of history. However,” he continued, turning towards the young man, “I've seen the way you look at me, especially when our journey began. Someone your age should not have to look so sad. If telling me about this will ease some of the burden you carry, then I am more than happy to listen.”
Twilight looked up at him, his thoughts tripping over themselves in an effort to reach a decision. He desperately wanted to tell Time everything, how he had met him, what he knew of his mentor's fate. He wanted to tell him that changing the flow of time was his greatest desire, that he wished every day for a way to save Time from a death filled with regret and sorrow. And yet, his mind always wandered to that moment, when he had dealt the final blow to Ganondorf. The blow that Time's spirit had taught him. Would he had been able to defeat the Demon King if his ancestor had not been there to guide him? Would “saving” Time ultimately mean dooming Hyrule? Would it mean dooming more young heroes after him to take up the sword and attempt what he could not accomplish?
The rancher closed his eyes and leaned forward, resting his forehead on Time's breastplate as his shoulders sagged and tears threatened to form. Time held him close, rubbing gentle circles on his arm with one hand and wrapping the other around his upper back, still clutching the ocarina.
“It's more of a memorial than a grave,” Twilight eventually spoke, "I met your spirit during my journey. You taught me your sword techniques. I suppose I just wanted to thank you by honoring your memory."
Time hummed in response. “I must have been a good teacher then. Your skills are amazing to watch in action.”
Twilight let out a watery chuckle. “They saved my life more times than I can count.” He rested in Time's arms for a moment more, then pulled away with a small smile. “I think that's all I can say for now. Go ahead and spend some time with Skull Kid, I'll tell the others you'll catch up later. Ask Skull Kid to lead you to Ordon Village when you're done.”
“Thank you,” Time said gratefully.
Twilight nodded and headed back out of the clearing.
“...You know,” Time continued, looking at the ocarina thoughtfully, “That song he was playing, it's not from Hyrule.”
Twilight paused.
“It holds a very powerful magic, one said to put the sorrows of the departed who hear it to rest and allow them to pass on peacefully.”
Pale blue eyes widened as another memory floated to the surface. A stone sitting on a mountain path, howling a song that he had mimicked without wondering what it meant. A song that had been answered by a golden wolf with a single eye. A Shade, uttering words that Twilight had almost forgotten in his worry over Time.
At last, I have eased my regrets.
Perhaps things would turn out all right in the end after all.

hi, I really like your account and you always post very interesting things! I would have loved to ask you to explain the seven trials of Habit because since am very new to everymanhybrid and i just cant understand it and i know that it probably plays a big part in the lore
(Sorry if this dosent makes sense i cant really write in english so i used google translation)
AHHH YAY IM GLAD YA THINK SO :D EverymanHYBRID is a pretty confusing series to get into. theres a LOT going on in it and im more than happy to help you understand better!! ALSO SORRY THIS RESPONSE IS SO LATE </333 ive been kind of out of it lately, but im back now!! i can only go so long without posting about HABIT...
the seven trials of HABIT is a tournament that HABIT hosted a couple years ago. everyone involved in the tournament was assigned a new name under "Rabbit #XXX" and 231 participants were accepted into the trials. this included ryan (rabbit #001) who was the first one eliminated, jeff (rabbit #002), evan (rabbit #003), vinny (rabbit #004), and at the time jeff told alex that he forbidden from joining the trials, but alex ignored jeffs warning and joined anyways under rabbit #231. the other participants were viewers at the time who could join via email, but not everyone who sent in an application was accepted into the tournament.
HABIT eventually created his own Twitter account (SEVENTRIALS) and officially welcomed all the rabbits to the tournament. he then divided them all into 3 groups: angora, english lop, and netherland dwarf, which are all breeds of rabbit. the groups were divided by numbers, 1-77 were angoras, 78-154 were english lops, and 155-231 were netherland dwarfs. each group was set to hold 77 members (its clear the number 7 is important to HABIT for some reason, it appears a lot here)
what is the purpose in all this? what is the purpose of the trials? well you see, we dont know exactly. theres been multiple speculations surrounding the purpose and we dont have a real canon verified answer for it.
one thing i would like to mention is a lot of what takes place in the trials matches up to how cults function. a lot of cults require their members to do things that will strip the members of their former lives in order to make them ready for a new path. im gonna list a few examples ↓
TRIAL ONE: the rabbits had film themselves burying a cherished item of their choice.
"LEAVE YOUR LOVED ONE BEHIND."
they had to part with a beloved possession that was important to them in some way. im not sure what jeff buried, but i know evan buried the prettiest knife he had, vinny buried his special edition of ocarina of time, and alex buried a bullet he shot with his dad.
"I REALIZE YOU MAY HAVE LIVES. THAT IS UNFORTUNATE. AND WILL CHANGE."
TRIAL TWO: when congratulating the rabbits who successfully passed trial one, HABIT says "GREAT, YOUVE BURIED SOMETHING. ALL YOU HAVE DONE IS LOST ONE MORE THING THAT MAKES YOU HUMAN."
TRIAL THREE: the rabbits have to lose a friend "BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY."
"DO NOT TELL THEM WHY YOU ARE DOING THIS. BLAME IT ON THEM."
the rabbits dont even get to go by their own names, which is required in some cults. some cults make their members change their names as a way to sever ties with their past identity.
whenever the rabbits do something, he wants them to state and make it known "HABIT MADE ME DO IT."
HABIT hasnt said anything about this publicly, but HAS addressed it in 2 private chats he had with some of the rabbits. in the first conversation HABIT stated the purpose of the trials was simply "BODY COUNT", but in the other conversation HABIT stated the trials would come to and end when the last rabbit was eliminated, regardless of whether he had reached the seventh trial.
ALRIGHT THATS ALL IM GONNA LIST i definitely left some details out, but i just wanted to go over the gist of it and give a decent amount of info since this post was getting too long. if i listed every single thing that took place within the trials, this post wouldve been SUPER MASSIVE 😭 buuut if youre still curious about anything, feel free to shoot an ask my way :D

Again, a game lost to another for one single vote! 30 people voted for A link between worlds and 29 people voted for the minish cap!
We can say Minish Cap wins the "best 2d Zelda game" award!
I love both these 2 games. I have to say I didn't vote for neither of them! Actually, albw is in my top 3! In albw, I love the 2 words, and the main mechanic is cool and interesting, I'd say innovative! I also really like Ravio, how he saved Link at the beginning (and I believe Ravio saves him every time too, Sheerow takes his tools and Ravio brings him back to the dungeon entrance or to his house, and heals him enough to continue!). I like to think Ravio has another bracelet and he and Link can meet again through the sacred realm or a single passage they left open (maybe behind Link's home?).
Anyway I really loved it and wish it ranked higher, but I gotta remove it from this round! Congrats to minish cap for winning over albw for one vote! Funny how alttp and albw are next to each other.
Back to the poll, remember to vote the game you think is the worst out of these in the list! Please don't vote a game if you don't know it! Knowing means having played the game (even not completed), watched a gameplay, read the wiki! Having read the manga is ok too, I can't think of any other things rn but I hope you got what I mean :D
Reblogs are appreciated, since for obvious reasons I won't tag this as Linked Universe, but the majority of my interactions come from that fandom!

Mwah Mwah Mwah I love you the Adventure of Link <3 You're a tough game but you don't deserve all the hate you get. OUGH yall i love this game so much the soundtrack slaps incredibly hard
Genuinely one of my favorite Zelda games esp in terms of lore and musici, if I grew up in the 80s and played this this game would've been my special interest for sure
The stickers are from the ALTTP sticker pack by Comstock Cafe and I just took the stickers that were the most generic to use for this game and the original Legend of Zelda ^_^;
Writing typed below!
Rating: 8.0 Played: Sp 2023 Port: NES Switch Special Edition (YES I PLAYED THE EASY VERSION I WAS TRYING TO BEAT THIS BEFORE TOTK)
Comments
Initial thoughts: reminds me of the claymation mythology movies (aka Jason and the Argonauts and Clash of the Titans)
This reminds me a lot of Joust
little link statue <3
this feels nothing like a zelda game
(in reference to above comment) the mechanics are a little off putting but this is actually a very zelda game, it takes getting used to but i'm enjoying it
I'm actually really obsessed with the zelda II lore and story, love the magic system
omg the iron knuckle
interesting bosses! it would be fun to see them return
damn gooma was so hard
wolfheads can burn in hell
I like how much the future zelda games are insp by this game!!!
how would you ever know how to find new kasuto without a guide T^T
FUCK WIZZROBES
-> they were't too bad in this game bc you can actually block them (I hate top down wizzrobes and hate a visceral reaction lol)
i absolutely love that you can turn into a fairy, this should've been a reused mechanic
"this is the first game where Link shape shifts as well as the first game where the process is voluntary and beneficial" oh my god T^T
I love how Barba/Volvagian returned in Ocarina!!!! LOVE!!
I FORGOT THE CROSS
It's funny how Link can't swim in these games so he walks on water instead
items collected are used in the overworld
I love this game a lot actually
the mega demon looking bubble?? T-T
the regional differences are really interesting
the design of the thunderbird is crazy cool
love the shadow link fight also insane you don't get to heal and replenish magic
zelda and link having 2 different styles is so funny, link looks so goofy
This game had a massive difficulty spike compared to the original The Legend of Zelda game. However, I loved this game so much and you can see how much influence games like OOT and TWW took from it. The music is incredible and iconic, I love the enemy designs and their grittiness, and I love how despite never playing this game before, I had a lot of nostalgia for it bc I played Joust as a kid. This was a great sequel for its time and continued the story well -- Link has gotten 2/3 of the triforce pieces and rescued zelda and defeated Ganon in the first game. Now he has to complete multiple trials in order to get the triforce of courage and save zelda from the past. The end fight being a 2 boss rush AND the true boss being the shadow of youself -- AKA the hardest boss in the series if you don't cheese the battle, it's great what an incredible idea. And OOT used it again with another incredible idea -- reflection, conquer yourself. Are you a true hero if you can't even outmatch, out wit, out last your own self, your own shadow? UGH as a huge OOT fan I just loved this game and seeing all the influence it had. I'd def play it again in the future.

Sorry for the typo in the title, it's part 4!
Hello and sorry for the delay!
During the last round, we said goodbye to Cadence of Hyrule and Zelda 1! Honestly I really disliked Cadence of Hyrule, way more than Hyrule Warriors, that got yeeted out on round 2, but I liked Zelda 1, even though it surely can't win against the newer ones!
Vote the game you think is the worst out of these in the list!

10 First Lines Challenge
Rules: Share the first line of your last ten published works or as many as you are able to and see if there are any patterns!
Thank you @linktheacehero, @sparklyhyperbole, and @korokposting for the tags! I was flattered to be tagged so much, especially by writers I admire :))
Lines under the cut (my pattern analysis was a little long-winded lol)
Icebreakers: "Link jammed the ice pick down into the same lump of frozen sludge for what felt like the thousandth time and sighed."
this peppermint winter, this marshmallow world: "Zelda knew something was wrong with Link from a mile off."
An Afternoon in Dalite Forest: "Once a year, they travel to Mount Satori."
Shadows and Sorrows: "Bright light, shaded in blue, illuminated the Triforce mosaic over Lake Hylia."
in the light and the air: "Hateno summers were notoriously long, warm, and sticky."
The Hermit Crab Ditty: "Link realizes she's in love with Marin in the midst of a musical phrase, and blows so hard into her ocarina that the note shrieks like a seagull."
You Are In Love: "Zelda hadn't seen Midna since they were both six years old and under three feet tall, sharing a nanny while their parents were enmeshed in diplomatic relations."
A Shard and a Ring: "Midna hadn't been this nervous since she was sixteen."
Under the Bluebell Moon: "The air smells of pine and safety."
At Break of Dawn: "Nights always fell quickly over Medlir."
As for patterns, the first thing I notice is that I have a tendency to start off with something that will be important to the premise of the fic (1, 2, 3, 6), or imagery that helps immediately introduce the reader to the setting (1, 4, 5, 9). If I'm not doing that, I'm usually providing a hook that will develop into the rest of the fic's events or ideas (5, 7, 8, 10). The other thing I notice is that I wanted to edit (and did, a little bit—don't tell anyone hehe) almost every line for 4-10. Given that these were the last four fics from my month-long Song(fic) Challenge from last year, which I did not edit at the time and have not yet gone back to fix up, this isn't a surprise—but it is lighting a fire under my ass to edit those sometime soon lol.
Tagging @cooking-with-hailstones, @zeldaseyebrows, and @karama9!

Slightly updated character references for Little Links, this time including Aryll! Most of the changes are minor tweaks but y'know ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Mysterious figure reference
Edit: I just added what game the links are from on their character sheets. Don't know how I didn't think to do that in the first place lol
Transcript:
"Rock": Smarter than he looks. Gets defensive easily, but he's really a softie. Doesn't like being told what to do. Currently 10 (and 3/4!!!)
Extra notes: 3rd tallest, opposite eyebrows from Ocean, he made this belt buckle, apron [He's from Minish Cap]
"Leaf": He's a little confused, but he's got the spirit. Only speaks Kokiri. Always wants to help. 10 and 1/2
Extra notes: 4th tallest (2nd shortest), plant braided in, messy stitching, gathered look, little bit too big. [He's from Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask]
"Pinkie": Stuck in his pjs. Generally a happy-go-lucky kid. Doesn't like conflict. 10, will turn 11 soon.
Extra notes: freckles like rabbit whiskers ;), clip matches with his brother, 2nd tallest, belt is a gift from Wood, flair outward. [He's from A Link to the Past, The Oracle Games, and Link's Awakening]
"Wood": Hardly ever talks. Rather distrustful. Scared of water. Turned 10 recently.
Extra notes: shortest, which way does it point? Who knows!, Shaggy, chubby cheeks, clothes are way, way too big on him, always holding, little bag. [He's from the first two games]
"Ocean": Big brother instincts. No idea what he's doing, but trying not to show it. Desperately needs glasses. Turned 12 today!
Extra notes: slight wave, "what am I looking at???", Fun eyebrows, longer than Rock's, tallest link, matching shell-carving braclets (from Gramma) [He's from Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass]

Hello! I'm Snow and this is my LOZ sideblog I made to ramble. I never played a Zelda game as a kid and am now making my way through as much of the series as I can in my twenties! My favourite game is Link's Awakening, my favourite character is Marin, and I'm abnormal about Impa Skyward Sword. No promises on how active this blog will be.
Please note that I will not answer any donation asks on this account; please send them to my main @snowstories instead.
Games I've Played:
A Link to the Past
Link's Awakening (DX)
Ocarina of Time (3DS)
Majora's Mask (3DS)
Oracle of Seasons/Ages
Minish Cap
Skyward Sword (HD)
Breath of the Wild
Tears of the Kingdom
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity
Games I'm Playing:
Nothing rn
Games I'm Planning to Play:
Spirit Tracks
A Link Between Worlds
Twilight Princess
Echoes of Wisdom
Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass if I can get my laptop to successfully emulate Wind Waker
Hyrule Warriors (Definitive Edition) if I can find it for cheap because I'm not paying 50 bucks for a game
Some of my opinions and headcanons under the cut for fun!
General:
Most Links had a blast on their adventure and even the ones for whom it was traumatizing still treasure a lot of the memories of it.
Every Link is autistic and aromantic.
Words cannot describe how unappealing and boring I find zelink. In general I do not care for ships.
Link's Awakening:
Not a tragedy. I'll die on this hill.
Koholint is mostly a reflection of the Wind Fish and Marin reflects his desire to wake up.
I think Marin/Link is a very 'he was a boy, she was a girl' type dynamic in canon and I do not care for the ship. Will tolerate it if Marin's characterization is good enough though.
Link did NOT get traumatized by the events of the game and not only will I die on this hill I'll kill on this hill.
Skyward Sword
Impa was born prior to the Hylia and Demise war and lived through it.
The Sheikah were based in Kakariko, which was Impa's home village. Kakariko lay in a mountain chain between Lanayru and Faron. Similar to BOTW, I headcanon their culture to be Japanese-inspired.
Impa was chosen as a kind of hero to the Sheikah and tasked with protecting the village. She failed, and Kakariko and the Sheikah were wiped out. Impa later rebuilds Kakariko, even if nobody will live there.
Impa's devotion toward Hylia is an extension of her devotion to her family, village and traditions.
The Gerudo lived in Lanayru and created the technology there. They fled when Demise started attacking the province; part fled to Kakariko or further in land, part fled across the sea. The part that fled across the sea survived.
Impa's decision to stay behind at the end of the game is in character because she is extremely dutiful, but the justification of 'protecting the Triforce' is paper thin and wildly undercut by having the Triforce sit on the gigantic Goddess statue during the final scene. How I deal with this will range from ignoring it to rewriting it.
Link was 17, Zelda was 18, and Impa was 22 during the game.
Impa nonbiney and autistic.
Zelda is an intersex trans girl.
Link is a Deaf trans girl. Uses Skyloftian Sign Language and Fi translated during their adventure. Relied heavily on memorization and visual cues for the music sections.
Breath of the Wild:
Riju is my favourite character! I love her dearly <3
Buliara and Riju have a relationship that almost could've been familial if they were less emotionally repressed about it. As it is it's loving but complicated.
Buliara and Riju are both deeply emotionally repressed but Riju is more emotionally observant and intelligent.
The Gerudo have normal clothes like thobes and not metal croptops. Their coming of age journey outside of Gerudo Town is not to find a husband but to see the world. I can't fix the orientalism but I can at least do damage control.
Buliara is autistic.
Zelda is a gay transmasc, perhaps some flavor of nonbinary. Abnormal about this headcanon. Also autistic + ADHD and probably PTSD. Becomes selectively mute post-Calamity and will use the Sheikah Slate as AAC. Physically disabled too but still working out the details on that, probably CFS.
Link is transfem and probably some flavor of nonbinary. Was selectively mute pre-Calamity but is fully verbal now, though still quiet and has speech patterns that are often perceived as strange.
If you think Link's orientalism girl outfit is gender I hate you.
A Link to the Past
The Triforce did not so much as erase Ganon's actions from existence as it 'made everything okay', i.e. raised the dead and such. This means that everyone besides Link also remembers what happened.
Zelda's Dark World form would be moonlight.
Zelda was 11 and Link was 13 during the game.
Zelda is butch and genderqueer, has OCD and PTSD. Has major issues with control and autonomy as a result of the trauma of the game.
Link is genderqueer and autistic. Does not speak verbally, uses a chalkboard to write.

Where to play every main series The Legend of Zelda game (ordered chronologically)
NOTE: when I mention the virtual console for the early games (NES, SNES, GB) it applies to basically every virtual console from Nintendo, not just the Switch. However, many virtual consoles have been discontinued such as the Wii. These are also just off the top of my head and besides a few exceptions are all on Nintendo consoles. I am not as familiar with emulation so I did not include many of those
The original console is listed in parenthesis next to the title which is always another way to play the game if you manage to find a copy, aka you can play ocarina of time on the n64 you just won’t have save states. HD remasters are within the same title since there’s minor changes, complete remakes get their own bullet points since they are a different experience from the original game and include major changes
The Legend of Zelda (NES) - Game and Watch mini console, Nintendo switch online NES virtual console (includes save states, special version also available which starts you with all upgrades and items)
Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link (NES) - Game and Watch mini console, Nintendo switch online NES virtual console (includes save states, special version also available which starts you with all upgrades and items), Hoverbat’s fan remake for PC (includes quality of life changes but keeps the essence and style for the original game)
A Link to the Past (SNES) - Nintendo Switch online SNES virtual console (includes save states), also rereleased on the Gameboy Advance as a bundled game with Four Swords
Link’s Awakening (Gameboy) - rereleased on the Gameboy Color as Link’s Awakening DX (aka the game now has color), Nintendo Switch online gameboy virtual console (includes save states, I believe you can only play DX)
Link’s Awakening HD (Switch) - released in 2019 for the Switch, a complete remake of the original game and has many quality of life changes including an art style update
Ocarina of Time (N64) - requires Nintendo switch online PRO account to play the N64 virtual console (not the regular online membership), was also rereleased on the GameCube twice (one copy includes master edition the other copy includes majora’s mask and the wind waker demo, if you grab a copy you can play it on the Wii as well)
Ocarina of Time 3D (3DS) - A remake of Ocarina of Time for the 3DS, only available on the 3DS
Majora’s Mask (N64) - requires Nintendo switch online PRO account to play the N64 virtual console (not the regular online membership), was also rereleased on the GameCube as a bundle with Ocarina of time (if you grab a copy you can play it on the Wii as well)
Majora’s Mask 3D (3DS) - A remake of Majora’s Mask, only available on the 3DS, I heard the mechanical changes to the game make it a little clunky
Oracle of Seasons (Gameboy Color) - dual release game with Oracle of Ages and can link both games data to unlock a special ending where you fight Ganon and Twinrova, I personally bought this on sale on the 3DS shop before it closed, also on the Gameboy color virtual console for Nintendo Switch Online (includes save states) - PLAY ORDER WITH OOA DOES NOT MATTER
Oracle of Ages (Gameboy Color) - dual release game with Oracle of Seasons and can link both games data to unlock a special ending where you fight Ganon and Twinrova, I personally bought this on sale on the 3DS shop before it closed, also on the Gameboy color virtual console for Nintendo Switch Online (includes save states) - PLAY ORDER WITH OOS DOES NOT MATTER
Four Swords (Gameboy Advance) - multiplayer game, virtually impossible to play today unless you and 3 other friends all have a copy of the original game, 4 GBAs, and linking cables - just watch a playthrough online (although I got headaches from watching playthroughs so brace yourself for a lot of screaming)
The Wind Waker (GameCube) - If you’re able to get your hands on a GameCube and copy I highly recommend it, a remastered HD version was released on the WiiU that included graphical changes as well as major item/discovery changes, can also emulate on Dolphin but the game will completely crash if you use the Pictobox so not recommended if you look to 100% the game (can also link you GBA to the GameCube version to use for the Tingle Tuner mini game)
Four Sword Adventures (GameCube and GBA) - multiplayer game, also virtually impossible to play today unless you have 3 other friends and a GameCube and a copy of the game, I believe you can link you GBA to the game and use that as a controller but I’m not 100% if that’s a requirement or not, I recommend just watching a playthrough but again there seems to be a yelling problem with this game
The Minish Cap (Gameboy Advanced) - I bought a knockoff copy for my GBA on Etsy for like $15 that worked beautifully (just don’t let your gba die while playing the game or else it’ll erase all your data), you can also play on the Nintendo Switch PRO gameboy advance virtual console (with save states)
Twilight Princess (GameCube) - was originally released on GameCube but was rereleased on Wii with I believe motion controls, the Wii version also completely flips the map and Link’s model to fit with right hand motion controls so the game not completely canon (such as TP Link is canonically left handed, not right) , was rereleased as an HD version on WiiU which includes graphical updates
Phantom Hourglass (DS) - requires stylus to play, need physical copy to play but can be played on DS or 3DS
Spirit Tracks (DS) - requires stylus to play, need physical copy to play but can be played on DS or 3DS
Skyward Sword (Wii) - Motion controls are required from my understanding of the Wii version, the HD version released on the Switch makes motion controls optional and has graphical updates (imo the controls are still horrendous on switch)
A Link Between Worlds (3DS) - currently only playable on 3DS
Triforce Heroes (3DS) - meant for multiplayer but has a single player mode, currently only playable on 3DS
Breath of the Wild (WiiU) - rereleased on Switch
Tears of the Kingdom (Switch) - released last year so only on switch
If you want to watch playthroughs for some of the games I recommend Keith Ballard as he started playing the Zelda series for the first time 5 years ago and plays 1-2 games per year (he’s done every 3D game and a few of the 2D and spin off games)
Basically every spinoff game (aka all non canon games - Hyrule warriors, age of calamity, cadence of hyrule) are on the switch, my Nintendo Picross Twilight Princess edition is the only one that became impossible to play once the 3ds eshop closed
For the most part if you have a switch and a hacked 3ds you can play almost every Zelda game. For the wind waker and twilight princess i was able to find a GameCube and Wii copy of their respective games at a retro game store so I highly recommend searching locally. I believe I also got ALTTP gameboy, phantom hourglass, spirit tracks, triforce heroes, and a link between worlds all locally. I also found ocarina of time + the master quest GameCube version for like $50 at half priced books which was one of the biggest wins (i also found tp GameCube there too but it was $150 and didn’t want to pay that much)
If you’re completely new to Zelda I highly recommend with starting with Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask, I actually watched Keith Ballard play both of those games while recovering from surgery and started looking into how I could play all of the games myself. There’s also no shame in watching a playthrough as although Nintendo is good about porting their old games, they are behind so many paywalls. From there you can decide if you want to go through the 3D games (I recommend chronologically by release date) or the 2D games (The Minish Cap and A Link Between Worlds are REALLY good 2D games but I love basically every 2D game except the multiplayer games so I honestly recommend playing all of them fjdkslf) . DON’T WORRY ABOUT THE TIMELINE!!! Just play the games how you want bc the timeline does not matter at all and was shoehorned into the series after like most of the games were released so it’s like trying to fit puzzles pieces that don’t fit together
#i did all this work a year and a half ago to play every game and now i will share it with yall#you aren’t limited to just botw and totk on the switch#the wind waker needs to be ported to a modern console so bad its such a good game#oot mm and tww my beloveds#2d Zelda my beloveds I love you taol so much#the legend of Zelda#legend of Zelda#tloz#loz

Same anon. You raise a lot of valid criticisms of TOTK's narrative, and yes, I fee like this is "Ocarina of Time: Hot Furry Edition" yet they should know better by now. It's been a very long since since the Big G has been humanoid, I guess that's motive to reintroduce the 'classic baddy' to a new audience.... but c'mon. Even I, with minimal knowledge of and experience with LOZ, only getting into it because Ganon's new design... Having seen everything about him in TOTK, I went "... is that it?" Which sucks! He looks awesome! Mercer did good! Your main antagonist deserves better than this. Players deserve better than this. I've read you dissections on him, and I am converted.
Thank you so much for reading my long rant!
Yeah I think the choice of turning that very random old hylian guy with droopy mustaches, barely a character in the original game, into a hot furry, mixing him up with the unseen Hyrulian king from OoT, and also saying he's basically a half-god who gloriously sacrificed himself to keep the Evil at bay is not *not* irrelevant to my icky feelings that it all feels like a weird pro-hylian propaganda version of OoT honestly (which didn't need these changes and was more emotionally powerful without them).
And yeah! What's the point in not making your villain distinct and memorable? Or to make a sequel that builds upon its predecessor also? Honestly I almost feel stupid that I chanted Ganon's praises and was like "I promise you guys he's, I mean, he might not be much and you kind of have to read between the lines, but his potential is really cool!! you'll all be amazed!! just trust me you'll be, wow, trust me" and then having the game itself being like lol, lmao.
I'm glad my rants converted you tho!! It's genuinely heartwarming to read, thank you a lot anon! <3
