Eddie is just trying to sneakily film a Tiktok of Steve complaining about missing another day of work despite the fact that for the better part of the last fifteen hours, he’s been down for the count with a migraine. Eddie barely gets any of his truly ridiculous rant because Steve’s moved on to talk about the commercial faintly playing on the tv.

The song in the commercial is 1985 by Bowling for Soup and Steve is like, “That was a good year, yeah?”

i just started thinking about eddie, buck, and chris having a texting group chat. and it's always been filled with pictures they all take when they go out together, and memes that eddie hardly ever understands, and tiktok videos with recipes that chris and buck want to try to make together.

and then... chris goes to el paso.

and a few days after leaving with his grandparents he sends a picture to the group and it's the first update eddie has received directly from him and it makes him want to cry and laugh hysterically at the same time. and chris and eddie start texting daily through the group after that. and buck stays so so quiet just reading their messages feeling both honored that they're letting him read all of it and also like he's intruding. but little by little the group starts going back to "normal" and chris starts sending links to recipes or museum exhibits and saying "i want to go to this when i'm back." and eddie can't stop reading the when i'm back when i'm back when i'm back.

then one day while they're on shift, a couple of hours after eddie has talked to chris on the phone, both their phones chime in with a notification from the group chat that says, "can you guys come take me back home soon?"

buck and eddie book the tickets to fly to texas the following week right then and there and send chris a screenshot of their confirmation immediately. chris texts back, "cool" followed a couple of minutes later by, "love you." buck holds eddie as he cries tears of joy.
