I wanna see your face and know I made it home - Chapter one
.....................
Chapter title: Tried to open up my eyes, I'm hoping for a chance to make it alright Pairing: Buck and Eddie Words:1690 Title: painting flowers - all time low read on AO3 if you like
.....................
"I want to go with Eddie" The words were stumbling past his lips before his medicated mind could catch up to what he was asking for.
Silence fell between the trio, even the annoying beeping from his monitor and the hustling outside of his room had seemed to fade into oblivion as he caught sight of Maddie's crestfallen look which caused the shame to spiral and wrap its tight vice around his chest.
"You have Jee to look after, you, you don't need me in the way" he gives the excuse in an attempt to hide the whole truth, the ones that screamed that he feels safest and most at home with Eddie, that the warmth that spreads through his chest when Eddie smiles at him would be enough to melt away the chill lingering in his bones. The words are the truth but not the whole truth, he doesn’t want to get in Maddie's way, she has enough to handle with a toddler running around. But neither of the people in the room or anyone else had to know the whole truth. It was safer if he just kept that to himself.
“You are never in the way Evan” he could hear the exasperation clear in her voice watching as she ran a hand through her hair.
His eyes flickered over to Eddie, standing with his arms crossed at the foot of Buck’s hospital bed, his own eyes focused on Buck. He couldn’t name the expression on Eddie’s face but somehow it was harder to look at than Maddie’s disappointment. Hers was an expression he was familiar with, he had seen it many times. Too many times really. Every time he had gotten hurt, Maddie had ended up with the same expression, it was familiar, and it was safe somehow. But Eddie, his expression isn’t one of disappointment as he expected, but he can't figure out what it is. He finds that it doesn’t matter because all he wants is for Eddie to come closer, he’s been standing at the foot of his bed since he showed up today, staying out of reach. He knew he wouldn't allow himself to reach out even if Eddie did come close enough. But he was closer yesterday, sitting in what looked like an uncomfortable chair next to him, his arms resting on the bed when Buck woke up confused and in pain. Seeing Eddie had calmed him and slowed his heart rate enough to realise he had made it out, that he must be safe now.
He looked back over to Maddie, seeing the tears gathering in her eyes and it was all too much, he didn't want to be hurting anyone, he just wanted to go home. He clenched his eyes shut, as he brought his non-injured arm up and tried to rub away the headache that was building behind his eyes.
“Buck, you okay? Do you need the doctor?” Eddie’s voice was laced with worry so Buck shook his head and forced himself to open his eyes to the harsh light. He felt warmth spread through him as he saw Eddie now standing right next to him, one hand hovering above where his injured arm lay strapped to his chest in the sling. Reaching out but not quite touching. A gap preventing him from feeling Eddie's hand calloused with labour connecting with his own damaged skin
“No, uh, I’m okay, I’m good” the words came with a forced smile that he hoped would do the trick at easing the worried crease present between Eddie’s brows.
The crease remained and Buck could feel his gut twist, he was just trying to help, he was trying to do something good, and somehow he ended up here with the ones he loves the most worrying about him. Again. That would have made him feel good at one point, he knows that. Now it makes him feel nauseous. He wishes they would both just leave, as much as he never wants either of them to, it’s bound to happen. The looks they are sharing, clearly have a silent conversation about how he is all too much and that they would be better off leaving him here. He never should have asked to go with Eddie, he was only offering so that Maddie wouldn't have to, and Maddie was clearly doing the same for Eddie. They both had their families to take care of. He couldn't force himself on either of them. He thought of the loft, the space that never once felt like home, and resigned himself to recuperating there, on his own. It wouldn’t be fun, but nothing about this was, and at least this way he wouldn’t be taking up too much of their time, he wouldn’t be adding anything more to their plate. He wouldn’t be exhausting them.
“You know, I’d be okay going home on my own, I’m okay honestly” as if to prove his point Buck pushes himself to sit up straighter, using his uninjured arm as leverage as his ribs protest loudly. He fights to control his expression, hoping the pain doesn’t shine through.
“Now you’re just being ridiculous, you can barely move, and you’re not going home to your loft all alone, there is no chance that is happening,” Maddie said. Her voice was direct and he knew she was right, even though he didn’t want her to be. He had taken care of himself for a long time, but Maddie had also spent a lot of her time taking care of him, he didn’t mean to add to that time.
“Maddie is right, there is no way you’re going to your loft alone.” Eddie’s tone is somehow soft but firm, and he knows there is no room to argue when he sounds like that.
“You know I kind of hate it when you two gang up on me,” Buck said, hoping the laugh he forced did the job of convincing them that he wasn’t about to fall apart.
“Well maybe if you stopped self-sacrificing then we wouldn’t have to” as the words left Maddie he heard a sharp inhale from Eddie and Buck felt the heat rising in his chest, burning its way through his skin as he blinked up at his sister.
“I, uh,” unable to find the right words he settled on “I’m sorry” whatever meds they gave him were making him too fuzzy for this. Too fuzzy to really try and explain why he ended up here, too fuzzy to focus on making things right again. He knew he would have to do that at some point, but for now, his head spun and forming more than basic thoughts felt like he was trying to navigate through a head that was stuffed full of cotton wool.
He watched as the fight drained from Maddie’s face leaving behind sadness as she sat down next to him on the bed. Her hand reaches out and he feels her cup his face, forcing him into the eye contact he’s been trying to avoid as she wipes at his cheek with her thumb. It’s only then Buck realises that he must have been crying.
“I love you, if you want to stay with Eddie then you can stay with him, right?” He watches as Maddie’s eyes glance over at Eddie looking for confirmation.
He follows her line of sight to watch as Eddie nods and meets his eyes “yeah, of course”
Struggling to find the right words, Buck offers him a small smile, hoping, praying that it will convey just how grateful he is. But he knows that it’s going to fall short, as he always does. Somehow consistently too much and never enough all at the same time.
“Chris will be happy to see you” Eddie adds and he couldn’t stop the warmth that spreads through his chest at the thought of seeing Chris, even if it is quickly disrupted by the worry that maybe Eddie is only offering his home as a safe place to recover for Chris’s sake.
Pushing that thought down as far as he can, he plasters a smile on his face before saying “I will be very happy to see him too.”
“He has been asking if he could come to see you every day” Eddie admits, and he longs to be able to reach out and soothe the worried crease in between his brows. This is an expression of Eddies he knows all too well, caused by guilt and the fear he’s been making the wrong decisions for Christopher.
He wishes he knew how to reassure Eddie that he made a good decision and that bringing Chris by to see his lifeless body as he tried to heal enough to be able to wake up would have been probably too much for the boy who had already been through too much loss. He aches to offer that reassurance, but his head is clouded by fog and all the words he wants to say are spinning around just out of reach.
"It would have been a lot for him if you had brought him," Maddie says the words he had been trying to say as she fights past a lump in her throat "it was a lot for all of us."
Clenching his eyes shut to fight against the tears threatening to fall he lets out another stumbling apology “I'm sorry, I wasn't, I was just, I'm sorry.” Frustrated he couldn't find any of the words he was looking for through the cotton wool stuffed into his brain.
He feels a steady weight press gently onto his shoulder on his uninjured side and his breathing even out a little. He takes a few steadying breaths before he belatedly realises it’s Eddie who has his hand resting on his shoulder. He bites the corner of his upper lip as he forces himself to open his eyes, immediately finding Eddie staring right back, and he’s back to feeling like he can’t quite catch his breath as he receives a small smile and hears Eddie’s calm voice telling him “We’re just glad you’re okay.”
.......................
Hi, its been a while. This has been sitting in my google docs for a long time. I haven't had the energy to write lately but I'm trying to get back into it. Decided to post this with the new episode coming so soon! i am so not ready for it! its gonna destroy me!
I have been meaning to write a second part to this, where the Diaz boys take care of Buck as he recovers in their home, so hopefully, by posting this part I can motivate myself to write that!

hope for the future (got me on my knees)
(buddie) (s8 spec) (2.4k words) car crash spec <3 title from bastille's hope for the future, which, imo, is one of the eddie songs of all time cw: blood (like. a lot)
Eddie’s not supposed to be here. He’s not—
He’s—
God, he’s not supposed to be here again. He’s not even on shift. But Buck is.
It was a favor. He’s covering for a last minute absence on C shift. So now he’s—
He’s on shift and he’s lying in the middle of the road and he’s not moving. And Eddie. Can’t. Breathe.
“Buck!” someone shouts, and Jesus it sounds like their entire world just crumbled. Eddie’s throat feels raw like—
Oh.
He’s the one screaming.
Buck’s three feet away from him, sluggishly bleeding out on the pavement. Shannon’s six feet under in a graveyard halfway across the city. Buck’s ribs are giving way beneath Eddie’s hands. Buck’s blood is soaking through his jeans. It’s staining him, his skin, his mind.
He—
“Sir!” Someone snaps. “You need to—shit, Diaz?”
No, that’s—it’s not Eddie who’s broken and unmoving on the ground. It’s not Eddie who’s going to die with or without a tube down his throat.
It’s—
It’s—
Two pairs of hands grab him, yank him away.
“No!” Eddie screams, thrashing wildly at whoever it is that thinks they can keep him from Buck.
“Diaz, stop!”
He can’t. He won’t.
“You have to let them help him.”
They won’t do enough. Only Eddie will fight for him hard enough. Only Eddie knows how to bring him back. An animalistic snarl climbs out from his chest.
“I’ve got a pulse!” a paramedic Eddie doesn’t recognize shouts. She’s a floater, probably.
A floater is holding Buck’s life in her hands. Does she even know? Does she know that the world will stop turning if he’s not in it?
Eddie’s knees hit the pavement. Distantly, he feels the sting. Mostly, though, he feels Buck’s blood. It’s on his hands and soaking through his clothes, painting him red, red, red.
Two firefighters carefully roll Buck onto a body board and lift him to the stretcher. For a split second, it’s 2019. Eddie’s watching his wife die. He’s holding Buck’s hand and trying not to stare at his mangled leg.
“Diaz! Now or never, are you coming with us?”
He doesn’t feel himself move, but between one blink and the next he finds himself in the back of an ambulance staring down at his—
His—
Buck’s eyelashes flutter and Eddie can’t do this.
“Please,” he sobs, clutching Buck’s hand. “You—you have to—”
He’s squeezing too hard. So hard he might break Buck’s hand, but he’s terrified that if he lets go, so will Buck.
The floater moves to intubate, but before she can Buck heaves a shuddering breath and opens his eyes.
Eddie thinks he might be screaming again, only this time the sound is trapped deep inside him.
“Eds… hurt?” Buck manages.
He must be. He’s dying maybe, because that’s the only explanation he can think of for the creeping numbness in his limbs.
“He’s fine, Buckley,” the floater says.
She’s wrong. She doesn’t— how could she? She doesn’t know that every piece of Eddie that’s worth anything is dying right alongside his—
“I can’t wait any longer,” she says apologetically before shoving a plastic tube down Buck’s trachea. He chokes on it, and oh, Eddie’s choking too.
The ambulance slows and Eddie’s about to bang against the wall, about to demand they keep going, when the doors are flung open revealing an entire trauma team dressed in pristine scrubs.
The floater rattles off Buck’s vitals and the injuries they know of.
As they pull Buck from the back of the ambulance, one of the doctors catches Eddie’s eye. He nods, and Eddie hopes to God that means he knows that Los Angeles will be swallowed by the sea if this man doesn’t live.
All at once, Buck is gone and Eddie’s left standing next to an ambulance that could be the last place he ever hears Buck speak.
“Diaz, you okay?” The C shift captain whose name Eddie can’t be bothered to remember right now asks.
No.
No.
No.
He doesn’t answer.
There’s blood on his face. Buck’s blood. Eddie doesn’t— he’s not sure how it got there, but now that he sees it, he can feel it too. It’s tacky and drying and God, there’s so much.
Gentle hands turn him away from the mirror.
“No,” Eddie says as his sluggish brain recognizes Bobby. “No, no he can’t—“
Bobby was there when—
He held Eddie. Let him weep into his shoulder. Stood steady as Eddie’s world crumbled to pieces.
“He’s in surgery,” Bobby says.
“They don’t know,” Eddie babbles.
Bobby’s face creases in concern. “Know what, Eddie?”
“He’s— he—“ He can’t force the words out.
“Eddie,” he repeats forcefully.
“I love him,” Eddie croaks.
Bobby, steadfast and solid, cracks.
One sob escapes his chest, then another, and soon they’re both sliding to grimy bathroom floor, trying not to shatter entirely.
“I can’t lose another—“ Bobby gasps.
Eddie squeezes his eyes shut. Bobby can’t lose another child. He can’t lose another spouse. Not now, not when he’s just begun to understand the depth of what he’s been denying himself for what feels like his entire life. Not now, not ever. Not— not, Buck.
The bathroom door bangs open and Hen steps in. Tear tracks stain her cheeks, but Eddie can’t bring himself to analyze her expression further. If Buck’s— Eddie wants to live in a world that hasn’t quite ended as long as he possibly can.
“No update,” she says quietly.
She grabs a few paper towels and wets them in the sink. She kneels in front of Eddie and brings one to his face. He flinches back.
“Eddie?” she asks.
He swallows past the lump in his throat. “What if…”
What if the blood staining his skin is the last piece of Buck he gets to keep? What if he dies on the operating table? What if he’s already dead? Eddie can’t— he won’t let anyone take the last of him away.
A harsh sob drags itself past his lips.
“Oh, Eddie,” Hen whispers, and why do people keep saying his name?
No one— he’s never heard it so many times from anyone but Buck. He doesn’t want to hear it from anyone but Buck. He shakes his head and presses his hands to his ears.
Hen says something else, but all he can hear is the whoosh of his own pulse, and it’s so unfair. Shouldn’t his heart know not to beat until he’s sure Buck’s will again?
“Eddie,” Hen says, taking his hands. “Let me, please.”
He can’t bring himself to agree, but he doesn’t fight back when she raises the paper towel to his face again. She pulls it across his skin in gentle drags, but it’s cold and Eddie can’t help but think uncharitably that Buck would’ve waited for the water to warm before he wet the towels.
When she’s done with his face, Hen guides him to the sink to wash the blood from his hands too. For a split second, Eddie wonders if Buck washed his blood away in this same sink after Eddie was shot. He wonders if Buck’s hands shook the way his are shaking now.
“That’s good Eddie, there you go,” Hen encourages him softly.
He bristles at her careful tone. Nothing she says can make any of this better or worse, not unless she can tell him with absolute certainty whether or not Buck will survive the night.
“I grabbed your duffle from the station,” she continues, and it’s only then that he notices his own bag slung over her shoulder. “Think you can get changed?”
Eddie nods mutely. Distantly, it occurs to him that this is part of what makes Hen such a good paramedic— her ability to meet someone where they are. He peels off his henley and exchanges it for the long sleeve LAFD crewneck she hands him.
He swaps his pants next, and for the first time, wearing a piece of the uniform feels wrong. He couldn’t— he wasn’t a medic today. If it had just been him and Buck out there, Buck would be dead already. He’d, what? Held his torn skin together? As if that was the wound that was going to kill him. Shannon didn’t even bleed when she died.
“Maddie and Chim are waiting for you,” Hen says, nodding toward the door. “I’m going to sit with Cap for a little while, okay?”
Again, Eddie nods. He stumbles through the door and into the arms of a woman who, for all they share, he barely knows.
He can’t bring himself to look her in the eye. She’ll know, he thinks, know that he didn’t do enough. Know that he failed one of the three people she loves most in this world.
“I’m sorry,” he croaks into her hair.
“For what?” she asks shakily.
“I should’ve— I didn’t—“
“You were there,” Maddie says. “You made sure he knows he’s not alone.”
Eddie swallows harshly.
“He knows what he’s fighting for,” Maddie continues. “Thank you.”
He wants to shake her. He should’ve done more. He’d demanded it once of a different team of doctors, and then he couldn’t even—
He was there and it didn’t matter. Buck’s still dying in a sterile operating room.
Maddie pushes him toward a chair next to Chimney in the waiting room, then sits on his other side. They talk to him, Eddie thinks, but he doesn’t hear a word.
“Family of Evan Buckley?”
Eddie’s on his feet before he’s even made a conscious decision to stand. Maddie follows quickly behind him, and— oh, Bobby’s in the waiting room now, too.
The doctor smiles at them, and while Eddie’s sure it’s meant to be reassuring, every second that passes without news is more excruciating than the last.
“Mr. Buckley did well in surgery,” she says.
Eddie’s entire body sags, like a marionette with its strings cut. Hen’s subtle but steadying hand on his back is the only reason he doesn’t collapse to the floor right then and there.
“He’s not out of the woods yet,” the doctor continues, “but his CT was clear and we were able to locate and repair the source of his internal bleeding.”
“He’s going to be okay?” Maddie asks, high and watery.
The doctor nods. “We’d like to keep him a few days for observation, but barring unforeseen complications, we believe he’ll make a full recovery.”
Maddie presses a hand to her mouth and nods, eyes shining.
“The effects of the anesthesia should be wearing off soon, I can take two of you to his room.”
To Eddie’s surprise, Maddie takes his hand. “We’ll—us,” she says.
Eddie looks at Maddie, then Bobby. “Are you—are you sure?”
“Go,” Bobby says. “He needs you.”
Eddie’s not sure that’s true, but he sure as hell needs Buck and he—he thinks this is probably one of those times when he’s allowed to be a little selfish.
“Through these doors,” the doctor says, leading them back with a wave of her key card.
He’s pale, unnaturally so. It’s like, despite the massive transfusion he received, there still isn’t enough blood pumping through his veins. Eddie wishes he could wring out his shirt and return every drop he took.
“Eddie, what happened?” Maddie asks softly.
Eddie shakes his head. “I, uh, I wasn’t supposed to be there,” he says haltingly.
Maddie takes his hand with the one that isn’t holding Buck’s and squeezes.
“I don’t think he knew I was there,” Eddie continues. “It was just… God, Maddie, it was a coincidence.”
Eddie closes his eyes and takes a steadying breath.
“It came out of nowhere. They were responding to a fender bender, wouldn’t have even been a call except one of the drivers was stuck in their car, I think. He was helping someone when it—there was a car. And then he was just—I couldn’t—he—”
Maddie squeezes his hand again. “You know, I—” she hesitates, then nods like she’s made a decision. “I’ve never seen him happy the way he is with you.”
Against Eddie’s will, a pained noise escapes his throat. “I don’t know why,” he admits. He looks down at his feet.
“Sure,” Maddie says, blowing out an amused huff.
“He’s so good. He walks into a room and everything gets brighter. He’s the sun,” Eddie says helplessly.
Maddie’s smile turns impossibly fond. “You love him,” she says. It’s not a question.
A smile of his own spreads unbidden on his lips. “How could I not?”
There’s a sharp intake of breath.
Eddie whips his head around and sees Buck, eyes open, lips parted.
“Eddie,” he breathes.
He should be panicking, maybe. Throat closing, heart racing, but—the singular feeling in his chest is relief.
“Hey, Buck,” Eddie says, incapable of and unwilling to keep the warmth from his voice.
“You—” Buck blinks twice, slow, like he’s trying to keep himself awake.
Eddie lays a hand on his ankle and squeezes. “Rest,” he says. “I’ll stay.”
“Stay… s’nice,” Buck slurs as he slips back into sleep.
“For what it’s worth,” Maddie says after a long moment, “pretty sure he loves you, too.”
Eddie watches the slow rise and fall of Buck’s chest. “Yeah,” he says, biting down on a grin that’s far too wide for the ICU, “I think he might.”
“Could take a second for him to work that out for himself,” Maddie says.
Eddie lets out a soft chuckle. “Oh, I know,” he says. “Gives me time to pick out a ring,” he jokes. Kind of.
Maddie laughs and shakes her head. “Is this your way of asking for my permission to propose?”
“Well I’m not going to ask your parents,” Eddie replies, wrinkling his nose.
Maddie’s eyes twinkle with amusement. “Could you imagine if I said no after all of this?”
“I’d ask him anyway,” Eddie admits.
“Good answer,” Maddie says.
Eddie laughs. “Oh, so that was a test?”
“No,” Maddie replies, shaking her head. “But he deserves someone that chooses him no matter what.”
“I do,” Eddie says with conviction. “I will.”
“Then yes,” Maddie says. “Just—don’t ask him in the hospital.”

- staying with mom ✰ e. diaz
Tumblr media
Summary: the first time Christoper calls you mom
Genre: mostly fluff but smidge of angst/tension
warnings: none
Pairing: eddie diaz x fem!reader
word count: 1.3k
Notes: hi hi i tried to use american terms like mall and mom, but i am not american and i say mum, so if you notice any slip ups pls let me know and i will change it. I feel like it would be weird to picture chris saying mum in an american accent so i tried to only used mom   Also i have started watched the walking dead and am obsessed so pls feel free to request some fics for the walking dead (i’m halfway through s7)
When you and Eddie started dating, you waited quite a while before meeting Chris as you wanted to be sure in your relationship so as not to unsettle Chris. After about 8 months, you were pretty sure Eddie was it for you, and you eventually met Chris. Within 6 months of meeting Christopher you had pretty much moved in with the boys, and when the lease on your apartment was up for renewal Chris was the one who suggested you move in. That was over a year ago and since then the three of you had been living life as a happy little family.
Today, you had a day off from work but Eddie did not, so you had decided to take Chris out for the day. For weeks, Chris had been saying his shoes were starting to get tight so you had decided you would take him to buy some new shoes and buy him a couple extra treats. It wasn’t often you and Eddie weren’t both at work at the same time, even if you didn’t have the same shift, you often overlapped so Chris would spend time with Carla.
Eddie was at work before you even woke up, so you and Chris had a slow morning before heading to the mall. The car journey was filled with music and laughs, you loved spending time with Chris and you guys always had an amazing time.
Once you got to the mall you found yourself chasing Christoper, the shoe shop was all the way on the other side of the mall so you had decided to do fun shopping first. The first stop was at the ice cream parlor, and then the two of you made your way quickly over to the lego shop. You both bought a lego set, as you planned to watch a movie and build lego together in the afternoon. Once the pair of you had gone to all the shops you wanted to, you slowly walked back to the car, trying to agree on a movie to watch while you were building your legos.
You were nearly at the car, when the ground started to rumble. Small tremors weren;t uncommon living in LA, but this was not that. The slight rumble turned to full blown shaking and the lights in the parking garage started to come loose and smash to the floor. You quickly dropped your bags and grabbed Christopher and headed for the car, it might not have been the smartest idea but in your panic it seemed like the safest option if the garage was to crumble.
Somehow, you managed to get to the car in record time as you were opening the door, you noticed a piece of debris falling and you quickly pushed Chris into the car. Within seconds of you getting Chris safely into the car, the debris had come down, knocking you down in the process. You hit your head on the concrete and briefly lost consciousness, but you quickly came around to the sounds of Chris’s cries.
“I’m here Chris, I’m okay,” you mumbled as you tried to wriggle free. Although, your right leg was trapped under the piece of the parking garage that had knocked you to the floor.
Not long after you regained consciousness, sirens were all you could hear and it became nearly impossible to keep your eyes open, and you were soon consumed by the darkness.
“Cap, get Eddie over here!” You heard being yelled from close by. Squinting at the bright light you started to blink your eyes back open and were met with Buck’s face looking down at you.
“Chris, is Chris okay?” you forced out, your throat was hoarse and felt as though you had woken from a deep sleep. You could feel yourself being rolled onto a stretcher, presumably to move you to an ambulance, or at least a safer area.
“Chris was with you?” Buck panicked.
“I think I got him in the car,” you coughed, “Check him first.”
A couple minutes later you heard a car door be forced open, and then Buck’s shouts.
“Chris!” Eddie’s shouts were so loud. He had arrived onto the scene and saw Buck carrying Chris over some rubble away from the car. You turned your head slowly and saw Eddie embrace his son tightly.
“Where’s Y/N?” Eddie suddenly asked. The panic in his voice was palpable.
“Over here,” You heard Buck’s voice get louder as he led Eddie to you. Eddie placed Chris down next to your stretcher and cradled your face.
“Baby, are you okay?” he questioned, whilst scanning your body for any obvious injuries.
“My leg got crushed but I’m fine. How is Chris? Is Chris okay?” you spoke so fast.
“I’m fine,” you heard Chris speak. You could have cried with relief upon hearing his voice. You had seen Eddie carry him, but hearing him speak and confirming he was okay made you so happy.
“Now, let get you taken to hospital, Buck can you take Chris to Athena and get her to call Carla please,” Eddie said as he began to wheel you out of the area. You saw Buck begin to usher Chris towards Athena who you could see a while away directing people.
“No.”
You and Eddie both stopped and looked at Chris who was avoiding Buck and walking towards the two of you.
“Chris, bud, y/n is okay. Your dad is just making sure she gets her leg checked out,” Buck tried to convince Chris.
“No,” Chris shook off Buck’s arms and carried on walking in your direction. Eddie sighed, letting go of your stretcher and turning to Chris before squatting down to his level while holding onto him.
“Chris, I need to take y/n to get checked out. Can you please go with Buck?” Eddie begged.
“No.” Chris was being stubborn.
“Chris please,” Eddie was starting to get desperate.
“I want to stay with mom.” Chris yelled.
You, Buck and Eddie all went still. Suddenly, the atmosphere had changed. Chris had never called you mom before. The three of you all looked at each other in shock unsure what to say or do next.
“Come here Chris,” you beckoned the boy, before helping him to sit on one side of the stretcher after you had collapsed the arms, “You can stay with me.”
Eddie was still looking at you in shock, starting to feel love swell in his chest. The idea that Chris saw you as a mother figure made him so happy.
“Chris, it looks like your dad is frozen,” you laughed whilst looping one of your arms around the boy. You had managed to get him in a place where he wasn’t near your leg which was causing excruciating pain.
This brought Eddie out of his shock and he walked over to the two of you.
“I love you both so much,” he breathed as he leant to kiss both of your foreheads, “Let’s go get mom all checked out.”

When Buck went to sleep last night after spending the day with Jee and saw no text from Tommy he thought nothing of it, Tommy was hanging out with Eddie after going to a fight after all. When he woke up and still nothing he brushed it off and sent a text of his own, knowing Tommy would respond whenever the two woke from a night of drinking.
He had no idea that when he did hear something, it was from Athena telling him he needed to come pick up his dumb and dumber—her words, not his—from the police station of all places.
"What the hell are they doing here?" Buck asked Athena with a wide eyed look of shock the second she came to get him from the front desk.
Athena scoffed, shaking her head. "They were caught drunk off their asses trying to break into a junk yard."
"A...junk yard?" He repeated slowly confused, "Why?"
They reached the holding area, and Athena let out a laugh of disbelief but Buck could hear the slight amusement behind it. "They saw a cat run in and chased after it."
"They- what?" Buck gaped at her.
"Oh you heard me," She walked over to the officer at the desk, "Can you grab Tommy Kinard and Eddie Diaz for me Reggie?"
The man, Reggie, nodded and grabbed the keys from under the desk before walking off down the hall.
"From what I understand, you told Tommy you wanted to get a cat as a dog would be more difficult with your jobs," She continued as they waited.
Buck sputtered, "Wait- they chased after a stray cat and tried breaking into a junk yard because I told Tommy I wanted a cat?"
Athena raised an eyebrow with a look that said 'exactly, idiots' written all over it. Buck sighed and rubbed at his forehead.
He stared at them in shock when they finally came walking out slowly, dragging their feet along the floor and squinting as they no doubt had raging hangovers. It reminded Buck of when he and Eddie showed up to the wedding looking like a mess except– somehow they looked worse. Their clothes so ripped that half of Tommy's shirt was hanging off and the right leg of Eddie's pants was completely gone, dirty all over, hair a mess, Eddie only had one shoe, Tommy was limping.
"You two look...like a disaster."
"Evan!" Tommy exclaimed a little too loudly as he winced at his own voice, and Eddie flinched beside him. Buck had to bite his cheek to keep from laughing as Tommy was obviously hungover and just spent the night in a holding cell, and still gave him a dopey looking grin.
"So..how was it spending a night in jail?" He teased when they were walking out.
Eddie groaned, "It would have been fine, but someone had to make friends with criminals."
"Eddie, we weren't in there for a vacation remember," Tommy pointed out. "Besides, we couldn't ignore them all night-"
"Buck, tell your boyfriend he doesn't have to be friendly with everyone," Eddie interrupted with a groan.
"I'm not!"
"You're on a first name basis with all my neighbors and you don't even live there!"
"Hey!" Buck snapped his fingers between their faces, making the two flinch. "Would you two pause this conversation to get in the car already? You two need a shower."
"Did he just say we stink?" Eddie frowned, and moved closer to Tommy. "Do I stink?"
Tommy leaned in, "Oof yeah," He scrunched up his nose. "Do I?"
Eddie did the same and grimaced, "Oh yeah."
Buck sighed loudly and mumbled, "I'm getting why Athena called you two dumb and dumber the more this goes on."
"He's dumber," Tommy didn't hesitate to say, pointing at Eddie.
"Hey!"
Buck groaned and had enough, opening the doors to his jeep to shove them in. Eddie made a yelp of protest but got inside, Tommy instead smirked at Buck. "You know if you wanted to manhandle me all you had to do was say so baby."
Eddie fake gagged from the back seat, "I heard enough last night shut up Tommy!"
"What did you tell him last night?" Buck asked Tommy, now amused himself as his boyfriend situated himself into the passenger seat.
"How good you looked tie-" Eddie reached over and hit Tommy upside the head, "Ow! What the fuck Diaz-" he turned to get a hit of his own in but Buck grabbed his arm stopping him.
"Okay that's enough!" He huffed and shut the door, quickly going around to get in himself. "Since when am I the adult here?"
Buck loved that his boyfriend and best friend were friends themselves– but he was so banning them for drinking on their hangouts unless he was there from now on.
"Hey Evan?"
"Hm?"
"Can we go get that cat?"

"Wait, wait, stop," Buck says, and the very pleasant feeling of Tommy's mouth on his neck vanishes.
"You okay?" Tommy's got his Look of Concern plastered on his face. Good thing, because if Buck is right, this is concerning.
"Yeah, it's just - did you hear that?"
Tommy raises his eyebrows. "I heard you moaning."
"Tommy, that's the thing - it wasn't me." The Look of Concern has morphed into the Look of Are-You-Sure-You're-Not-Having-Me-On? It's mostly used whenever Buck regales Tommy with tales of one of the 118's emergencies ("Nothing like that ever happened while I was there, Evan"), but he's seen it in other contexts (explaining the entire Kim situation).
"At this point, I think I know what you sound like in bed." Tommy's mouth is still nicely red. And maybe he's right, it was nothing, and it would be easy to fall back into him. Buck waits a beat, ears perked, but there's nothing - so he does press his lips into Tommy's, Tommy's body relaxing against him.
Tommy rubs his side like Buck's an anxious horse. The hair on Buck's arms slowly flattens, goosebumps leaving his skin. He loses himself in the slide of their kisses, until -
He breaks free of Tommy and looks around wildly, Tommy woah'ing.
"Sweetheart," Tommy says, reaching out again. "Seriously, you okay? Because you're giving Ghost Whisperer."
Buck snaps his fingers at Tommy. "Exactly. My apartment is haunted."
"Evan." The word is a drier desert than Antarctica.
"There was a moan again! And it wasn't me. And when Chimney and Mara and Jee were over here helping set up, they left the balcony door open. It's October. And now there is something living here."
"Last time I checked, Casper wasn't considered alive," Tommy says, and the look on his face tells Buck everything: he really is a skeptic. Falling asleep during Buck's thoughts on Area 51 wasn't just because he found Buck's voice soothing.
When Buck reaches for his phone on the bedside table, a chill runs down his arm and into his spine. "Okay." He's got Google, a helpful army of friends, and the ability to buy anything he needs. That ghost is history. "So first, we need to get -"
He's stopped by Tommy's hand on his wrist. "Baby, do we really need to figure out your ghost thing right now?"
"Do you want to fuck in front of a ghost, Thomas?"
"Is he a hot ghost?" Tommy waggles his eyebrows, then sighs. "Look, I get that this is important to you, but I was away for three weeks for that training camp and I missed you. Can we send The Flying Dutchman back to sea in a couple days? My place has a big bed and a distinct lack of the supernatural."
As they're closing the door to Buck's loft, another faint moan emanates from the air.
"It's the pipes," Tommy says, linking his arm into Buck's to guide them to his car.
(They find out three days later Tommy is technically correct when maintenance pulls a dead raccoon out of the walls of Buck's loft.
"Huh," Tommy says, frowning at his phone. "They really do make that noise."
"And they stink." Buck wrinkles his nose. "Your bed still open?"
By the time the landlord's finished the repairs, Buck's stuff, cleared out for the construction, is scattered over Tommy's house.
"It'd be a pain to pack it all up again," Tommy says. "Keep it here."
"You just want easy access to my hoodies," Buck accuses, feeling Tommy's laughter from underneath the fabric of the stolen blue hoodie he's wearing.
Two hours later, hoodie abandoned to the floor, Buck officially moves in.)
[thanks to @stardustbuck (Buck thinks he's haunted) and @theweewooshow (balcony raccoon) for the inspo 🫶]

Can you do a buck x reader where the reader and buck are married but she gets amnesia and only doesn't remember buck and their relationship. But it ends with fluff
where’s my mind?
pairing: Evan “Buck” Buckley x fem!reader
summary: you wake up in a hospital bed surrounded by your family and friends, but amnesia took away the memory of your husband, what’s Buck gonna do?
word count: 2,1k
author’s note: thanks to an anon for this request, I hope you all enjoy it, because I definitely had fun writing it 🫧 p.s. requests are open
Tumblr media
“Yes baby, I will be home in 10 minutes, just had to stop at a gas station otherwise I wouldn’t make it.” — you say over the phone and sigh. Your day was long enough, of course it couldn’t end well, something had to make it a bit longer.
“Okay love, be safe.” — you hear Buck’s voice and smile. Who would have thought that after four years of dating – you can finally call this man your husband? The past three months of being married were so wonderful, you had everything you dreamed of. “I love you.”
“I love you too, see you soon!” — you smiled again and hung up the phone.
Well, this gas station definitely looks a bit shady, but it was the only one near and you really needed to get some gas.
It was 11 p.m., streets are getting emptier, and flashlights are the only source of seeing something in this darkness. You felt shivers down your spine and thought that it’s time to go home, you didn’t like this place.
Your hand reaches for the car door to get into the driver's seat. But this never happens. Instead, you feel a blow to your head so hard that the only thing you remember is falling to the ground and darkness. If someone got a reward for the most unfortunate end of the day, you would get it today.
Next thing you know, you wake up in a hospital and you try to properly open your eyes, but the light in the hospital is so bright that you squint for the first few minutes. You feel someone is sitting next to you and you turn your head in their direction. It was Maddie.
“Maddie? W-what happened?” — you finally speak and don’t recognize your voice. The voice is so hoarse, quiet and low.
“Oh (Y/N), you’re finally awake.” — Maddie said with a smile. “Don’t worry, you’re fine now, you got attacked at a gas station and had a concussion.” — she took your hand and squeezed it. “I’m gonna tell Buck you’re awake, he just left to buy some coffee. He will be so happy.” — one more smile from her and she left your room.
“Buck? Who’s that?” — you think to yourself and get confused. “Maybe it’s a doctor or something.”
A man runs into your room with a relieved look on his face. You assumed it was Buck. But you really can’t remember his face. Maybe it’s Maddie’s friend or a doctor she knows, she's a former nurse after all.
“Hi baby, I’m so glad you’re awake.” — he rushed to sit next to your bed, took your hand in his and placed a gentle kiss on it. “How are you feeling?”
“I’m sorry, sir, but do I know you? I can’t remember if I ever saw you.” — the confusion is written on your face, you furrowed your brows and looked at him.
But Buck just laughed and smiled at you. You always liked to call him “sir” to tease him. He had no idea why you did that, but he secretly liked it, it made you look cocky.
“I don’t know why you’re laughing, but I’m getting quite uncomfortable by my hand being kissed by a stranger. You better explain.” — you said that and pulled your hand out of his. Why does he think that he has some privilege to do that?
Then Buck realized. You don’t remember him. He felt like his world fell apart in one second. Everything they had been building for almost 5 years just disappeared. Your eyes were saying everything. There’s no love, affection and fondness in them. You didn’t look at him like he was the most important person in your life anymore.
“Maddie, can you explain? This man seems too stunned to speak.” — you said annoyingly, because no one gives any answers.
“(Y/N), I’m Buck, your husband.” — he said with so much pain that for a moment you thought that it’s you who’s acting stupid.
You couldn't lose your memory like that, could you? You remember everyone except your husband. Oh god, you're married, you probably have a house together, lots of plans for the future, but you don't remember anything.
Your head starts to hurt a lot from all the information that doesn't seem real. You look at Maddie and you see that tears are starting to form in her eyes. You see Hen standing outside the door of the room and talking to the doctor. The saddest look you've ever seen is on her face. Everyone remembers everything, why can't you remember?
The doctor comes into your room and gives you a little smile. This smile didn’t say "it's good that you woke up", this smile said "hang on, you have a lot of surprises ahead."
“So, Mr. and Mrs. Buckley, I have some news that I need to share. (Y/N) experienced a severe blow to the head, which led to dissociative amnesia, due to which she may forget something or someone specific in her life.” — so it’s true, you did forget your husband. How long have you two been together? How many good memories did you forget?
“What can we do?” — Buck said, pursing his lips. He took your hand again and squeezed it. This news shocked him, he wasn't ready for it, but he knows for sure that he is ready to do everything in his power to make you remember him.
“The best thing you can all do is put her in the environment where she has been for the last 5 years. Guide her slowly and carefully tell her the events she has forgotten. Memories can come in flashes and this is normal, it means that she remembers and after a while she will remember everything. But I must warn you that there is a chance that she will not remember anything.” — the doctor said and gave Buck a soft look. Unfortunately, he has to deal with many cases of amnesia and the hardest thing is to see the patient's family and know that they don't have the slightest idea what to do next. “Now, if you excuse me, I need to check on another patient.”
There is a chance that she will not remember anything. These words ring in Buck's head. What if she really doesn't remember anything? Would he have to win her love all over again? Would he have to propose to her again? Will they have to build everything again for another 5 years?
2 months later
The door opens. You came back from grocery shopping. Apparently, this is the house that you and Buck moved into after your wedding. Home sweet home, only you don't feel at home. You remember that you lived alone, there wasn't even a man on the horizon that you liked, turns out you're already married.
Buck is very sweet, he hasn't left your side for a second since you woke up. He showed you pictures of you together. Here you are at Bobby's birthday party, here you saw Jee for the first time, here you are at Chim and Maddie’s hospital wedding, here you are spending a free day at the beach. And you could remember those events, but you don't remember living them with Buck.
Yesterday Buck told you that you were supposed to fly to Europe together for the first time in 2 weeks. It's been your dream all your life and Buck was happy to make it a reality. He was happy to share memories with you that would keep you both warm in the future. But the trip will have to be canceled, because he doesn't want to overwhelm you.
“I know it’s a lot and you probably want to run away, but listen, I’m here if you need me. I know you don’t remember me, but I remember everything and my love will be enough for both of us for now.” — Buck put the bags on the floor and came over to you. He stopped in front of you and didn't know how to behave. He wanted to kiss you, but would it be too much? He wanted to hug you, but wouldn't that scare you off?
Seeing how he hesitated, you hugged him yourself. You hugged him to you as hard as you could. The thing is, you were very scared. But Buck instilled a sense of security, he was your safe place. You didn't remember him, but your body remembered exactly how to react to him. And you trusted that instinct.
So far, you have agreed to sleep in separate bedrooms. You didn't want to rush things, and he didn't want to push you. So when night fell, you said goodnight to each other and went to your rooms.
You lay down on the bed and put your head on the pillow, it smelled like Buck. His cologne, his shower gel, the whole room seemed to be filled with him. You looked at the bedside table and saw a photo of you together. So happy and beautiful, in the photo you were somewhere in the park.
“I promise I will remember you. For us.” — you said quietly to yourself and fell asleep.
It was a beautiful sunny day. You look at yourself in the mirror and you're wearing an amazing wedding dress. Your hair, makeup, jewelry — all this made you feel like a princess.
“Athena, I’m so nervous, I don't think I will remember my vows.” — you turned around to Athena while she was preparing your veil.
“(Y/N), you and Buck have been preparing for this wedding for six months, if something goes wrong, it will definitely be Chim that got into some shit again.” — she laughed and took your hand.
“Listen, don't memorize your vows, speak from the heart. Remember how he makes you feel, remember his every look and touch, remember how he looks at you. And don't forget to add his nickname at the end. What do you always call him?” — Athena looked into your eyes and smiled. She knew for sure that your vows would be perfect.
“Light of my life.”
You woke up and were breathing heavily. It was a flashback from your wedding. Of course, you always called him "light of my life." Because he saved you from the darkest stage of your life.
You had your favorite white tulips at the wedding. Buck wanted everyone to come in colorful outfits, but you insisted on a dress code. And the cake ended up being 5 times bigger than you expected, so at the end of the day you handed it out to each guest, so they could eat it at home.
You remembered. Panic began to take over your whole body. Or is it just your love for your husband has returned and your body is responding to it?
You lifted the blanket, got out of bed, and hurried to the room where Buck sleeps. But he wasn't sleeping, you saw the light in his room and opened the door.
“Buck…” — you whispered and felt tears on your cheeks.
“Hey. Hey, hey, what’s wrong? Are you okay?” — Buck saw how panicked you were and rushed to stand next to you. He put his hands on your shoulders and looked into your eyes. “Talk to me.”
“Light of my life.”
He froze. Did you remember? Or is he dreaming? He didn’t want to move to not scare the reality. He just wanted to stay in this moment.
“You don't like oranges, so we immediately told the pastry chef not to offer us cakes with oranges. You really want children, so on our second date we started choosing names for our children. When you were struck by lightning, you pretended to be a Flash for 3 months, and when I dyed my hair and didn't tell you about it, you started calling me because you didn't recognize me, even though I was standing next to you the whole time.” — you started rattling off the facts of your relationship quickly, as if you were afraid to forget, but you remembered everything.
You saw the tears in Buck's eyes and started crying even harder. You couldn't even imagine what he was going through these two months while you didn't remember anything.
“I knew you would remember.” — he said and had the biggest smile on his face. “C-can I kiss you?”
“Please.” — you said it and pulled him to you for a kiss. So desirable for both of you.
“Don’t cancel Europe, we need more memories.”
Buck just laughed, picked you up and carried you to the bed. It's going to be a long night.

Tommy doesn't quite startle, when Evan reaches out for his hand, halfway down the block on their way to the little park tucked in behind a row of boutiques, but it takes him a moment to accept the touch, Evan's pinky sliding over the back of Tommy's hand as their shoulders bump together, the both of them a little too giddy to blame the coffee alone.
Evan makes an aborted movement like he's second guessing the attempt, and Tommy twitches his hand back just enough to snag his fingers.
At his side, Evan ducks his head, cheeks pinking, lips rubbing together, smile going wide and bright.
He feels overheated in his hoodie, but now their fingers are interlocking, and Evan is shifting his weight to adjust the angle of their arms, and Tommy can just deal with the warmth, actually.
His sister's wedding. They're both insane, Tommy decides, right then and there, and if this continues - if this continues, Tommy's just going to take his cues from Evan.
(I am all in, Tommy thinks, in Scott Patterson's voice, and then drops that thought like a hot fucking potato. He tables it, at least. For later.)
"I - uh - I told Eddie, about - well I told him." Evan grimaces, but he holds up their intertwined hands for a moment, a clear gesture about what, exactly, he'd told Eddie. Tommy wonders exactly how much he'd said. He wants to climb in behind his eyeballs and pick at his brain, which is so beyond the pale of weird and intense. Evan still thinks he's cool, somehow. That won't last. "I hope that was okay? I know you said you're out, but I guess he didn't know, so -."
Tommy squeezes the hand tucked into his. "That's fine, really. He'd have figured it out on his own, eventually. It's not like I hide it."
(Anymore.)
It's - that's a huge fucking leap from "I'm an ally" actually, less than a week out from shifting his eyes around the room and spouting nervous nonsense about picking up chicks. His sister, his best friend - Christ, he's really going for the speed run on accepting his sexuality.
The wedding, Tommy had discovered, down to the dregs of a truly middling cup of coffee he kept sipping at to try to hide his own nerves, was another three weeks away, but a month of lead time between his first kiss with a man and introducing that man to all of his family and friends as a date - yeah. Tommy wouldn't trust it for a minute if he hadn't spent weeks picking Christopher's brain for hints as to exactly what was up with Evan Buckley, if he hadn't already heard from Eddie exactly how quickly they'd jumped into their friendship.
Tommy's whirlwind thoughts stutter to a halt. "Wait. Did you know?"
Evan blushes, again, ripening the apples of his cheeks. "It's - okay so I didn't know, know, obviously, but - I mean - you were flirting pretty hard."
Tommy laughs. "Evan."
"You were!" He sounds a little incensed, like he's actually offended Tommy thinks he can't clock a flirt, and Tommy can't quite resist the urge to squeeze at his hand, again. "You aren't exactly the first guy who's ever flirted with me, Mr. Kinard." He says it prim and proper, chin raised, lips pursing after the pause, and Tommy is - shit, he's smitten. He also has no fucking clue how Evan never pieced together how hard he was flirting back. God, even Mr. Kinard has his stomach fluttering, a little.
"Just the first one who's ever reached out and slapped you in the face with it."
Evan's grin goes blindingly bright, eyes still a little squinted under the sunlight making the shots of red in his hair a little more obvious. "It was a very gentle slap. You could - you could slap a little harder, next time."
Jesus.
He's not even a hundred percent sure what the implication is there, but he can at least roll with the tamer one. He tugs, a bit, on their intertwined hands, just hard enough to knock their shoulders together again. He's a solid weight against Tommy's side, the bulk of him a little mind numbingly hot, in his bright white shirt and the dark wash jeans Tommy'd taken his time checking out when Evan went to toss their coffee cups. "You still owe me a beer, Buckley," he tells him, and Evan tilts his head up to check the angle of the sun, doesn't even bother to point out that Tommy'd barely let the check sit on the table long enough for Evan to pull out his wallet.
"I mean, it's a little early."
"Raincheck, again?"
Neither one of them has anywhere to be for the rest of the day. They'd both made that clear, when the coffee started to get low but the conversation didn't wind down, and Tommy - Christ, Tommy is more than willing to let himself get swept up in this, for the next few hours, for the day maybe, even. The weather is comfortable, and the company is adorable, and in response to Tommy releasing him from the pressure of being out too soon he'd sped off to his sister and his best friend for - for answers, most likely, for advice on how to turn things around. My sister says... he'd started, before Tommy'd had enough of wondering.
"Let's see where the day takes us," Evan says, another squeeze to Tommy's hand, and Tommy takes the weight when Evan checks his shoulder back.
-----
The day takes them twelve blocks up the road, Tommy pressed to his own kitchen counter, lips swollen and flushed when he finally parts for breath, Evan Buckley's dick pressed against his thigh as he whines at the loss. Tommy's hands are bunched up under the fabric of Evan's shirt, the wide expanse of skin beneath them sun-warm and smooth, and when Evan blinks back at him and digs his nose into Tommy's cheek, Tommy has the wild thought that he could do this forever - just this, rocking together in the shifting late afternoon light coming in from the gauzy white curtains over his kitchen sink.
They'd made the journey here under the pretense of grabbing a few waters, maybe making some late lunch, figuring it out from there, but when Tommy had bent over the low shelf in his fridge Evan had cut the distance between them, caged Tommy in and made good on his threat to show Tommy he could slap back, if he wanted.
They've been lazily making out for - long enough that the water bottles he'd scrambled to set aside are now sweating condensation. He'd lost his concept of time somewhere around the point Evan had grabbed for the back of his thigh and rocked against it for the first time.
"We should figure out something for dinner," Tommy announces, lips still close enough to Evan's still parted ones that he's speaking mostly into his mouth.
"Uh-huh."
"Evan," he intones, just a hint of admonishment, and Evan blinks, and gathers himself. He's - he's still got his thigh wedged between Tommy's, can clearly feel exactly how much they'd both gotten themselves worked up. Tommy's a little obsessed with exactly how unperturbed by this Evan is. Thirty some years without realizing he was attracted to men and now he's spent a good few minutes actually nipping at the cleft of Tommy's chin, purposely shifting his face against Tommy's stubble-roughened cheeks while he sucked at Tommy's earlobe.
"Somewhere with beer," Evan provides, decisive, and Tommy can feel exactly how wide his smile goes.
"I'm actually in the mood for wine, tonight," Tommy shoots back, and the moment shifts, mood slowing as Evan pulls back - just a little, just enough for each of them to take stock of exactly how disheveled they both are.
Evan's mouth is pink pink pink, his own stubble not quite enough to hide the beard-burn that had spread down his neck when Tommy found himself momentarily fascinated by the dip of his collarbone, the rush of his pulse when Tommy mouthed at the tendon of his neck. Besides the awkward bunching at the back, his shirt is all out of whack, one side of his collar flipped up, the neck shifted to one side, and Tommy vaguely remembers sliding his hand in there, at one point, swallowing the heavy groan that had elicited. His cheeks are ruddy, eyes bright and still a little wild. Tommy can't be any better.
"There - there is actually a little wine bar around here I've been meaning to try," Evan says, clearly trying to refocus, shifting his weight around in a familiar way that Tommy finds achingly endearing.
Tommy thumbs at Evan's bottom lip just to watch the way he has to fight not to be drawn back in.
"Let me change," Tommy says, hands shifting to Evan's hips to press him back, and away.
"You - you're fine. Like this."
Tommy's smile is soft, and he reaches out to smooth down Evan's collar. Evan's eyes seem to be stuck on the flash of skin behind the open button of his Henley, the knowledge of which he is absolutely going to use to his advantage.
"This isn't exactly date attire," Tommy impresses upon him, and Evan's brow goes adorably crinkly.
"Tommy, we've been on a date the entire day."
Tommy's mouth does something uncontrollable, the smile breaking containment on one side, then the other, and the hand still tucked next to Evan's collar shifts across his chest. Beneath his ribcage, Tommy's heart does something he absolutely refuses to acknowledge until he's had a moment alone to his thoughts.
"I didn't wear this to impress you," he admits, although he gets the feeling Evan absolutely had dressed to impress. "Sorta thought I was getting a very polite let down, this morning."
"So, this is, what, your sulking attire?"
"Certain I was gonna sulk, hmm?"
"I mean, I'd have been a little insulted if you didn't at least mope, a bit. Maybe a little wallowing."
"You caught me. This is my brooding sweatshirt."
It's absolutely stupid, how much it makes his heart race to see the grin blooming across his face. Tommy needs a moment.
He brushes at Evan's shoulder as he passes him, fighting the urge to press his lips to his cheek.
"I'll be right back. Bathroom's down the hall on the left, if you need it."
In his room, with the door shut behind him, Tommy takes a long, long moment to stare at his bed, silently trying to convince himself not to throw his whole body dramatically across it like some regency era heroine. The bathroom is right next to his room, and Tommy can hear Evan drifting down the hall towards it, at a pace that suggests he's taking the time to take in the artwork and picture frames hung on the walls. It makes something ache, in his chest, in his throat, and Tommy shakes his head on the way to his closet, getting tangled in his sweatshirt when he tries to tug both it and the Henley up over his head at the same time.
He's forgotten how clothes work. Maybe. Probably.
In his walk in, once he's figured out how to get everything off without blinding himself or taking out a light, he takes a moment to stare at himself in the mirror hung by the door. His hair is a fucking disaster. His face is - embarrassingly smiley, Jesus Christ.
There's a mouth shaped bruise forming at the bolt of his jaw, and Tommy should absolutely be embarrassed about that - he's a forty year old man who just spent a good hour necking in his kitchen.
Fingers trace the edges of it and he can't muster up anything less mortifying than smugness.
He manages to get his hair in some semblance of order - doesn't bother with product, for absolutely no reason at all (certainly not to tempt Evan into running his fingers through it some more) - and finds a collared shirt in a light, hazy blue that he knows brings out the slashes of green in his eyes.
He leaves the top three buttons undone and calls it good.
Evan's back in the kitchen by the time he makes it out of his room, snooping in Tommy's fridge, and he doesn't even have the grace to look apologetic about it when Tommy taps his fingers against the doorframe.
The fridge closes on its own, Evan's mouth dropped to an intriguing O shape.
"Uh - oh," Evan says, mouth actually snapping shut as he takes Tommy in, eyes dipping up, down, catching on the skin below his collarbone. He swallows. Fuck. "This - uh. Okay. Color me impressed."
"Yeah?"
"You know you look good," Evan whines.
He's done something to fix his own, hair, too. Tommy leans in the doorway, arms crossed, one foot tucked over the other, and actually takes the time to stare back. Tommy's hands had worn through the product - there's a little bit of a curl, in his hair, that Tommy would give a lot of his earthly possessions to see in its natural state. There's still some color in his cheeks, and it's spreading as Tommy checks him out. He's fixed the neck of his shirt, and against the stark white of it, his tattoos are drawing Tommy's eye. He wonders how many other ones he might uncover, one day. "You too," Tommy finally says, when Evan looks like he might vibrate right out of his skin at the attention. Evan beams, and spins the keys in his hand around on one finger.
"You ready?"
Absolutely fucking not, Tommy thinks to himself, but he nods, and lets Evan lead the way back out his front door.

I found myself in all the blood I lost Chapter one
.................
pairing: Buck and Eddie
warnings: mentions of blood, some anxiety
Words:1764
title: thank you - PVRIS (feat. RAYE)
read on A03 if you like
.................
Eddie’s heart stuttered as he caught sight of Buck, the all too familiar pattern of blood splattered across his face staining it with memories. The crowd of people faded away until all that he could see was the dark red on pale skin as he clumsily rushed back to the scene. All he could focus on was Buck and getting to him, helping him, saving him. The sound of his blood rushing through his veins overrode anything else. Pain radiates from his shoulder as he stumbles forward. Getting to Buck is the only important thing, everything else can wait, there's so much blood. He just needs to power forward, he can take care of everything else later, getting to Buck is all that matters.
A hand on his shoulder pressing right into the pain caused him to come to an abrupt stop as it held on stopping him from his mission, the sounds of the busy street rushing back to him. The sound of the passing cars, muffled music playing from inside one of the stores, the sounds of so many overlapping voices all rushing back to him at once. One voice overpowering the rest is saying his name.
“Eddie, Can you hear me, Eddie?” Bobby. It was Bobby, his hand holding him back from letting him get to Buck.
“I… Buck, let me go Bobby” his voice sounding strained, pushing past the lump in his throat as Bobby manoeuvres himself into his view, stopping him from continuing to stare at the blood staining his best friend's skin.
“He isn't hurt” he hears the words but they don’t sink in, the image still clearly playing in front of his eyes even as he looks at Bobby.  “That’s not his blood Eddie, it’s not his blood, Buck is okay.” Bobby’s face comes into focus then, worry clearly etched into his expression. If Buck is okay why does Bobby look like that? Why is he holding him back, blocking his view, why can't he just let him get to him? He needed to get to him, there was so much blood.
“Eddie, it’s the patient's blood, Buck is okay” Bobby repeats and Eddie wants to believe him, wants to let the words settle into his bones and calm the fierce panic overtaking him.
The voice in the back of his head is telling him he needs to get his act together, he’s here to do a job, Bobby wouldn’t be stopping him from getting to Buck if he really was hurt, Bobby would be right there next to him and they would both be doing everything they could to make sure Buck was going to be okay. He still needed to see him though, still needed to see for himself that he really was okay. He forced a nod, hoping it would be enough to make Bobby let go of the iron grip he had on him.
Bobby was seemingly satisfied that Eddie was no longer about to sprint away, released his grip and sidestepped just a little so that Eddie could see Buck once more. Taking in the view in front of him, he forced himself to look everywhere but Buck's blood-splattered face. He trailed his gaze down his arms until he reached the sight of buck’s hands pressing against a wound. Blood stained his fingers. More hands came into view, Chimney’s, along with white gauze that quickly turned crimson as it was pressed against the wound. Moving his gaze away from the wound he found his way back up to Buck's face, still stained in blood, and he felt a shaky breath leave him as he watched Buck turn his gaze from the patient's wound over to Hen who was shining a light into the patient's eyes. Eddie watches as Buck's mouth moved, not being able to hear any of the words he was saying, but reassurance flooded him as he took in Buck's expression. It wasn't relaxed by any means, but he didn’t look like he was in any pain. He has come to be able to easily read buck over the years and so not seeing any pain in his expression allows Eddie to finally breathe.
“Are you all good?” Bobby’s voice came through much clearer than it had when Eddie first stumbled over.
“Yeah, I’m good”
“Did you find anything?” Eddie's eyebrows raise in confusion at the question as he spares a glance over to his captain before it all comes rushing back. He had been sent to check down for any signs of any more victims who might have wandered off but he had come up empty leading him to head back to the scene and that was when he spotted Buck over the crowd of onlookers.
“No, I didn't see any signs of anyone cap” guilt spiralled in his gut at losing himself so much from the job at hand, but it was Buck, how was he meant to focus when it was Buck?
“That’s good” he could feel the weight of Bobby's stare as he made himself take in the whole scene as a way to keep grounded. He’s at work, people need him to be focused. Lives depend on it.
“Yeah, I’m gonna…” his words drift off as he pointed over to where the others were working and started to make his way over. If he could just throw himself into the job at hand he could ignore the phantom pain still blossoming from his shoulder, he could ignore all of the ways he felt as if he was the one bleeding out on the concrete and he could ignore the way his heart had shattered at the thought that Buck was the one that was hurt once again.
“Cap we are ready to go” Hen’s voice rings out loud and determined over the chaos of the scene as Eddie reaches them, realising belatedly that Bobby had followed right behind.
“Load her up, the rest of us will meet you back at the station” he instructs.
Eddie tries his best to follow the rest of Bobby's instructions without letting himself fade back into the pain of thinking Buck had been hurt. Which means avoiding looking at him with the blood still splattered across his face. He busies himself with collecting their tools and making sure everything is right where it's meant to be.
But then comes the order to get in the truck and suddenly he is faced with Buck sitting right across from him. His eyes fell closed against the sight only to be greeted by an almost identical image but one that was much worse. One that came with the pain radiating from his shoulder in pulses. One that came with the inability to ask Buck if he was okay, not that he was able to find the words to do that now either but he could hold on to the fact that he was aware enough that he could see that he wasn't hurt.
He felt Buck's knee knock into his own and he opened his eyes willing the sight before him to have changed. It hadn't, of course, it hadn't, but he let himself hope regardless.
"You okay?" The words were quiet and Buck was covering his mic, which reminded Eddie he hadn't even put his own headset on.
He forced a nod before reaching into his turnout pockets and grabbing the packet of anti-bacterial wipes he had taken from the truck's first aid kit as he was tidying up.
He focused on his hands as he removed a wipe from the packet just now noticing that they were shaking. As he placed the packet back in his pocket he absentmindedly wondered how long they had been.
"Lean forward" he instructed, managing to control the shaking in his voice better than his hands.
He watched as buck complied with his eyebrow raised in silent question.
"You uh, you have some blood" Eddie begged his voice to stay neutral and not give away just how much he was fighting images of the past as he reached forward placing one hand on Buck's shoulder to steady himself and using the other to begin wiping away the blood that was staining his skin.
All that came from Buck was a sound of acknowledgement so Eddie kept going, working as carefully and quickly as he could. Allowing himself to bask in the comfort that this time he could get his hands on Buck and wipe away the blood and know it wasn't coming from him, it gave him a purpose. The last time he couldn't move, he thought Buck was hurt and he couldn't move, he couldn't help, but this time he could. This time he can wipe away the blood leaving behind Buck's pale skin only coloured by his birthmark and the pink in his cheeks. This time he could feel the warmth radiating from Buck's skin as he kept his hold on his shoulder even if he craved to bring his hand up to cradle Buck's face instead. He could feel him solid and alive under his touch and that was everything Eddie had been wanting, everything he had been craving the last time he had seen Buck covered in blood.
He could feel Buck's gaze heavy on his skin as he did his best to avoid making eye contact. Knowing it would be holding questions to which he didn't know the answers. Or at least he didn't know if he wanted to answer. For the moment anyway. Not in the back of the truck with others around. Not when the harsh light of the setting sun was shining directly on him leaving him feeling exposed.
After wiping away the final bit of blood from Buck's neck, he leans back the now stained wipe remaining in his hands with nowhere to discard it.
He is staring down at it when he hears a quiet "thank you" from Buck, a weight lifting off his chest when he looks back up at Buck and sees no blood.
He offers him a smile, one that's maybe not quite real, and he's sure Buck can tell but he wasn't really going for real, he was going for thank you. Thank you for still being alive, thank you for not getting hurt. Thank you for letting me clean away the blood so I could convince myself you're okay. A lot of pressure to put on one smile but it's the best he can do for now.
Buck smiles back with a subtle nod and somehow Eddie knows that Buck understood.

evan buckley x reader
gif creds
a/n: this gif makes me wanna scream and cry and die and roll over in my grave… anyway hi!!! i know this is late but i remembered this from my drafts and it’s so cute. hope this person still wants to read :))
ever since her surgery, y/n has been forced to rot in the hospital bed. at least until buck gets out of work. every single day, he would come to visit her.
when she first had to go in for the operation, nothing was certain. the medicine she’d have to take, how many bandages would be wrapped around her leg, but one thing was the same.
buck was in the chair next to her every chance he could be. he knew it was something to bring her stability when all of hers was on the brink of collapse. he brought her food, flowers, clothes from home, everything she could’ve ever needed was brought to her, all from him.
it was his post-shift routine. he would shower, change, and drive over to the hospital she was at. he would come full of stories, and he would tell her all about what she was missing. he hated seeing her in that bed, but if it helped her get better, it was all worth it.
it was almost funny to buck, whenever he would go over and visit. it was like they were never dating. it was like high school, when you go a certain way in the halls to see your crush, and your chest gets tight and face hot.
today, he was particularly excited to see her. he got his haircut for the first time in a while, and she adored when he had a fresh cut. he styled it her favorite way before heading over.
he held a to-go box from y/n’s favorite, and had a bag with some clean sleep clothes for her. he scurried through the halls and finally found her room. he knocked lightly on the side as the door was already open.
he peered in to see her, her head slowly tilting to the side with her eyes tired. the office reruns were one of the only noises in the room, besides the steady beeping of her heart monitor.
“hey, beautiful,” buck says cheerfully, waiting for her to look into his eyes too. she perked up at the sound of his voice.
“hi, buck,” her voice was low but clear, and she blinked a few times before focusing on him again. it seemed all energy was brought back to her as she looked at him. she looking him in the face, and then onto his hair and back into his eyes. buck felt the same warm feeling he always did when she looked at him. the color in her eyes shined ten times brighter when she was with him.
the longer she looked at him, she didn’t physically feel anything, but as he moved closer, the more excited she got. she had just wanted him next to her all day, and his hands finally graced her own and cupped her cheeks.
he planted his soft lips onto hers, tasting like the sugary popsicles they give her. he pulled away to sit down next to her, and she just smiled so brightly at him, the same way she always does whenever they pull from the kiss.
it always left them in a trance, such a trance that they didn’t notice the beeping speeding up on her monitor.
“oh, honey,” the nurse murmured, walking in to check on her. “you didn’t tell me when he was coming, gave us a good scare on this floor.”
“what?”
“miss y/n, you are so head over heels for him, whenever he walks in you just about go into arrest.”
y/n’s cheeks blush bright red, looking embarrassed at the nurse. “well you don’t have to say that in front of my crush.”
“i’m your boyfriend?” buck says, confused but also humored.
“you’re still both, apparently.” the nurse retorts, rehooking one of y/n’s tubes back on. when she walks out, she rubs her face with her eyes.
“i would be lying if i said i didn’t notice the beeping.” buck whispers.
“what?” y/n laughs. “what beeping?”
“whenever i walk in, you get all excited and start beeping like crazy.”
“not true.”
“is too! just say you love me,” buck says, leaning in closer.
“fine, i love you.” y/n grins back at him before kissing him again, and her heart rate still doesn’t go down.
