NGHTMRE AND BIG GIGANTIC ANNOUNCE DEBUT MUSICAL PROJECT AS ‘GIGANTIC NGHTMRE’
Tumblr media
Following their past collaborative release “Like That” and iconic performances at EDC Las Vegas and Ultra Music Festival, renowned producer, DJ, and label owner NGHTMRE and acclaimed duo Big Gigantic have teamed up again as Gigantic NGHTMRE to announce their upcoming debut project and deliver the explosive lead single.
"Back For More" is set to ignite dancefloors and playlists worldwide, solidifying the members of Gigantic NGHTMRE as trailblazers in the electronic music scene, and is available now on all DSPs and streaming services HERE.
“Back For More” is a high-energy anthem that fuses NGHTMRE's signature bass-driven sound with the infectious melodies and live instrumentation that have become synonymous with Big Gigantic's electrifying performances. The lead single of Gigantic NGHTMRE’s upcoming debut EP immediately hooks listeners with catchy vocals and a triumphant saxophone before building into a heavy drop, and carries this positivity throughout with immaculate bass production.
Gigantic NGHTMRE’s debut EP, slated for release later this year, follows their collaboration “Like That” from 2018 and promises to deliver an electrifying blend of their unique styles. The project boasts the cinematic production and sound design that has made NGHTMRE a dance music titan, as well as the impressive instrumentation that makes Big Gigantic truly unique live performers. In addition to their collaborative project, Gigantic NGHTMRE will be embarking on a series of highly anticipated performances, building on past sets at EDC Las Vegas, Rowdytown IX at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre, and Ultra Music Festival. Upcoming performances include Shambhala Festival in Canada and a headline show at New York City’s iconic venue, Brooklyn Mirage, and will feature state-of-the-art new production and captivating visuals.
“I remember discovering Big Gigantic’s music while wandering around as a fan at Camp Bisco in 2012! I got the chance to collaborate with them in 2018 and it was a no brainer! Once we dropped ‘like that’ we got the opportunity to play some of the biggest festivals around the US and they’ve been some of the best memories I’ve had so far in music. We finally found time to write music together this year and we are so so proud of how this music is sounding. So stoked to share it with the world!!” - NGHTMRE
NGHTMRE, who has been a driving force in the industry for the past seven years, released his debut full-length album DRMVRSE in 2022. Created over four years, DRMVRSE is a masterfully cohesive fictional anthology involving a Neurotech company that discovers a sonic frequency called Unsound, which leads one through gateways to other physical planes of existence, known as the “DRMVRSE.” Add in large amounts of DMT, portal jumping, and epic battles all seen via eight long form music video vignettes and it provided one of the most imaginative and sonically pristine audio-visual, psychedelic-sci fi album experiences of the year. The project’s singles include “Fall Into Me” with SLANDER featuring Dylan Matthew, and the high octane trap single, “Trials” featuring IDK, alongside other tracks with Zeds Dead, Oliver Tree, UPSAHL and more.
“Tyler and I got this idea for a song after one of our shows that has sax and bass on the drop and we added this sick vocal to it. It’s a song that really blends our two styles together and I really love the way it turned out.” - Big Gigantic
Meanwhile, Big Gigantic continues to captivate audiences with their dynamic fusion of live instrumentation and electronic music. After emerging in 2009, they first amplified their message of light on their full length project, Brighter Futurein 2016. The duo's infectious energy and genre-bending sound have earned them a dedicated fanbase and performances on renowned stages around the world where they perform fan favorites like “All of Me” featuring Logic & Rozes and “The Little Things” featuring Angela McCluskey. Most recently, the dance veterans released the infectious song “Keep on Movin” together with Cloudchord.

Tinder launches ‘Festival Mode’ to connect music festival goers with profile badges
In the latest of a string of products aimed at attracting and engaging a younger demographic, dating app Tinder this morning announced the launch of a new feature called “Festival Mode,” designed to connect singles attending the same music festival. Similar to “Spring Break Mode,” announced this February, “Festival Mode” will also involve the use of badges on user profiles to indicate an upcoming destination.
These badges make it easier to spot, when swiping, those people who are planning to attend the same music festival as you.
Tinder is launching the addition in partnership with two entertainment companies, AEG Worldwide and Live Nation, and will make the feature available to those attending large festivals in the U.S., U.K., and Australia.
This includes the following events: EDC Las Vegas (May 17), Hangout Music Fest (May 17), All Points East (U.K., May 24), Governors Ball (May 31), Parklife (U.K., June 8), Bonnaroo (June 13), Firefly (June 21), British Summer Time (U.K., July 5), Lovebox (U.K., July 12), Faster Horses (July 19), Hard Summer (August 3), and EDC Orlando (November 9).
The company notes the market for music festivals is large, with over 32 million in the U.S. expected to attend at least one. These festivals also put a large number of young single together in one location, which does inspire, um, “new connections.”
Tinder has seen this in its own data first-hand. During Hangout Fest in 2018, app registrations increased by up to 30x. Meanwhile, app activity at Bonnaroo 2018 increased up to 300x, at times.
The launch of Festival Mode speaks to Tinder’s broader strategy.
Following Tinder parent Match’s full acquisition of the relationship-focused dating app Hinge, it no longer sees the need to market Tinder as an app for serious daters looking for a love match. Though that could still happen, of course, the general push for Tinder going forward is to cater to those younger users not ready to settle down, and who instead want to embrace the “single lifestyle.”
“It’s no secret that Tinder is a must-have app for singles attending music festivals around the world. We consistently see a spike in Tinder use as tens of thousands of music fans come together, so we wanted to create a new experience that makes it easier to connect with other concert-goers before even setting foot on festival grounds,” said Jenny Campbell, CMO of Tinder, in a statement about the launch. “We’ve partnered with some of the biggest names in the entertainment and events industry to make that happen, and we couldn’t be more excited to help Tinder users find their crowd during these events for the rest of 2019.”
Festival Mode launches today and will allow users to add event-specific badges to their profile approximately three weeks before each festival.
It’s not the first feature to cater to younger users in recent months. In addition to Spring Break mode, Tinder has been further developing and expanding its Tinder U product for college students, including with the launch of new features like Rivals Week, and others.
During Match Group’s earnings call with investors in February, CEO Mandy Ginsberg also noted Tinder would soon be rolling out more Tinder U events and marketing tied to the school’s social calendar going forward.

Insomniac Acquires Ownership Stake in Legendary Miami Club Space
Today Insomniac Events, creators of Electric Daisy Carnival, the world’s largest dance music festival, announced a partnership with Miami institution Club Space, one of the industry’s most respected and forward-thinking live music venues. While all management and operations at Space will remain unchanged, the partnership will drive and sustain the club’s presence in downtown Miami for the next decade and beyond.
“Space is one of the most iconic dance music venues in the US if not the world, and I’m excited that Insomniac is now a partner,” says Insomniac Founder and CEO Pasquale Rotella. “Davide, Coloma and Sinopoli have done an exceptional job revitalizing this venue to be better than it’s ever been. They are passionate people that care about creating experiences, and share the same core values that Insomniac lives by. The Space Invaders team will still be running the show and together we will set the bar for entertainment in Miami. Space is another important piece of the Insomniac vision coming together.”
In 2016, Space came under new ownership of partners Davide Danese and Coloma Kaboomsky (of Link Miami Rebels) and David Sinopoli (Founder of III Points). During their tenure, the trio—also known as the Space Invaders—has re-envisioned the club’s layout, vibe, and décor while bringing a new energy to the scene through premier bookings. By partnering together, Insomniac and Club Space will redefine the club experience and keep the pulse of dance music in downtown Miami.
“Our Space Invaders team is excited about this partnership with Insomniac,” says Sinopoli. “We have admired their work for a while now, and over the past year have gotten to know everyone on their team. They are young, creative, and most importantly, their focus is on constantly working to provide the best possible experience for their guests.
“We have worked tirelessly over the past three years to renew the energy inside Club Space and maintain a calm, safe environment while curating a space where people can enjoy a wide range of entertainment. Our Space Invaders team will continue to book the music and operate the club exactly as we have been. We believe that through this relationship with Insomniac we can continue to grow and secure our home at Space with a partner who has an aligned vision of the future of the Miami music scene.”
Space Miami is divided into three unique sections: The Ground, Floyd and Terrace. The Ground has become a home for cutting-edge live music, having hosted acts like James Blake and SZA, while the smaller capacity Floyd is the club’s ornately decorated room for disco and leftfield electronic sounds. But the undisputed focal point of Space is its famous open-air Terrace. It is here that internationally acclaimed artists like Rüfüs Du Sol, Claude Von Stroke, Disclosure, Loco Dice and Green Velvet have blessed the Miami faithful with sets that greet the sunrise and continue well into the afternoon.
The partnership comes during a time when Insomniac Events has made considerable strides in the region. After a critically acclaimed, sold-out experience in 2018, EDC Orlando will now take place over three days in November 2019, the first time a three-day EDC has ever been held outside of Las Vegas. With its ownership of Space Miami, Insomniac will continue to bring high caliber dance music experiences to the state of Florida.

EDC Las Vegas returns in 2018 with new dates, new hours, a brand new camping experience, and more! 🙌 Tickets go on sale Thursday, September 28 at Noon PT. Read about all the changes in a message from our founder, Pasquale Rotella... ✨ "Here’s the big news! After a lot of energy, passion and hard work, I want to personally present to you EDC Las Vegas 2018. New hours, new stages, and new dates with better weather and camping. That’s right—campsites, RVs, sound camps, and more—for the first time ever at EDC Las Vegas. Wake up and walk in. Over the past 10 years, average high temps on this weekend in May have been 90 and the lows have been 64. This means we can extend our hours and create an opening ceremony on the cosmicMEADOW lawn featuring extended sets from different artists each day. One stage, one vibe—all before the rest of the experience turns on. Not only will it give people a chance to vibe out before sunset, but the early arrivals will help the flow in and out of the Speedway. Shuttle operations will be handed over to an independent company that specializes in the largest music and sporting events in the country. This is what they do and they do it better than anyone else, year over year. Also new for 2018, construction in the immediate area of the Speedway will finally be complete. In 2017 we had just two lanes. EDC Las Vegas 2018 will have three lanes plus pull-offs. There will be traffic in and out of the festival, but if you want a one-and-done journey to the Speedway, just camp out. We’ll be rolling out more details in the coming weeks, and I’ll be personally answering your questions live on my Instagram. Tickets and camping passes go on sale at the end of September, but hotels are available now on our website with no markup.   EDC Las Vegas 2018 is going to be an amazing new adventure and I can't wait to see you there!

Testpilot 9-17-2021 Los Angeles
Tumblr media
This is a 2-hour audio recording of Testpilot at Exchange LA on September 17, 2021. The live set began around 12:23 AM the following day.
Rave Tapes · Testpilot 9-17-2021 Exchange LA
Testpilot. When deadmau5 goes hard.
I've seen deadmau5 many times before. The last time was a DJ set, also at Exchange LA, on July 4, 2021. That show was phenomenal. 2.5 hours of deadmau5 in an intimate venue with a top tier sound system - what more could you ask for? I tried recording that set as well, but a technical problem stopped the recording after only 20 minutes, a mistake I continue to regret.
Testpilot is often described as deadmau5's darker, more experimental, alter ego. As this was my first Testpilot show, I was curious to know what that description meant.
As soon as Joel fired up his mobile rig and transitioned from the last track by opener Lauren Mia, I quickly understood.
This wasn't a dj set. This was Joel triggering sequences, stems, and loops, probably from Ableton, in real time. The tracks weren't complete songs, per say, with a typical beginning, middle, and end. These were a series of rhythmic permutations, minimal techno, featuring infrequent vocals, scant melodies, dominated by a 4/4 kick at 130 beats per minute, undulating sub bass, and syncopated percussive hits. It's dance music in its rawest form - just the bare essentials required to cause a crowd to dance.
The beauty was in how Joel let the rhythms marinate for a while before adding or subtracting other parts. Hypnotic repetition creates space for dancers to "get into the groove" and allows tension to build before reaching the next drop and release.
Given how long deadmau5 has created music for live audiences, it's obvious he knows how to work a crowd. There was a definite contrast between Testpilot's raw beats and polished deadmau5 tracks. This was something quite different, and certainly welcome.
The audience got to witness Joel triggering sections on the fly using a couple midi controllers. One of the devices - a Novation Launchpad or something similar - was angled slightly toward the dancefloor so the audience could see the action. I'd say Joel was fingering those buttons for a good 60% of the show. One could tell he was hyper-focused, in the moment, and actively working to manipulate the soundscape. He easily earned his pay that night (he always does).
I'm sharing the recording almost two weeks after the event, which is a longer delay than usual. There were a couple reasons for this. First, I had to deal with the acoustic imperfections of the file. Exchange LA is a cavernous room, and the recording reflects that. All kinds of natural reverb muddied up the sound. It took some effort to remove an ever present low-end rumble without losing the kick and bass lines. Many hours were spent cleaning up the signal and getting it to sound somewhat decent. While it's not a perfect recording, it succeeds in conveying the vibe of the night and documents the tracks played.
The other reason for the delay was that I have real-life stuff to take care of, which sometimes takes priority. I wish I could devote 100-percent of my time to recording, editing, and sharing dance music sets. But the reality is that I have to balance Rave Tapes with other important aspects of life. The good news is that the music will get shared, eventually. Better late than never, as the axiom goes.
Moving forward, EDC Las Vegas - after being delayed for a year-and-a-half - is finally on the horizon. You can be sure Rave Tapes will be in attendance. If the past is any indicator of what will happen this year, you can expect some new gems to appear in the Rave Tapes stream. Consider this Eric Pryds set from Circuit Grounds 2018, or this historic surprise set by RL Grime in 2019. Which sets will be captured this year? Only time will tell.
On that note, please consider donating a few bucks to support the Rave Tapes mission. The cost of attending events like EDC isn't trivial. Also, I am constantly looking for ways to upgrade hardware and software to improve sound quality. If you appreciate what I'm doing, please let me know by contributing something. Everyone who donates will get a couple Rave Tapes stickers and a vintage rave flyer from my personal collection. Thank you, and enjoy!

Insomniac Founder Pasquale Rotella Did A Reddit AMA Live
Insomniac founder Pasquale Rotella did a Reddit AMA Live to answer questions on EDC 2018 and here’s all the questions and answers he responded to.
The live AMA took place Sept. 27 at 3pm PST. Lots of questions came up, but only a few were answered. Since some of them offer us new insights into EDC 2018, I’ve compiled them all for us! Check it out below and read the Reddit thread here. Some of the questions got off the topic of EDC 2018, so I’ve reorganized them to be at the bottom.
Q: jtet93: Can we have details about how the shuttle experience will be improved? I can't really express how bad my experience was last year, and I was personally really frustrated that it was so challenging after the cancellation of third party shuttles. I swore I wouldn't come back to EDC unless the transportation improved. I know you're handing off the planning to an outside company but any details you can provide on how their plan will make a real difference to the shuttle experience would be awesome. I'm also wondering if there will be reentry for campers? And how the issue of sunlight will be dealt with in the "turnkey" tents - will there be any effort to create shade or darkness in the camping areas? Thanks Pasquale! I will say that once I'm inside EDC it's definitely one of my favorite places ever and I love attending. I would love to see the logistics improve and come back year after year A: PasqualeRotella: We have confirmed the third party company we will be using for shuttles and they provide transportation for the largest live events in the world. I am excited about collaborating with them to make it the best it’s ever been. Also, great camping question! The tents we are setting up will provide protection from sunlight. There are also multiple shade areas for not only activities around the campgrounds but also at the center camp, which is called The Mesa. We’ll have more details about this when we announce camping soon!
Q: Shannonraczka: Can we get a ball park range for camping passes? Also will they be available in a payment plan as well? Lastly can we get an estimated time that they will go on sale? Thank you!! A: PasqualeRotella: It will be between $250-$275 to bring in your RV, and we’ll have hook-ups available for an additional fee. As far as campers, there will be several different packages available. It depends how many people you’re with and what packages you choose, but you’ll be able to get something between $450 to $2,500 for 4 days of camping. This will all be laid out clearly before we go on sale with camping options.
Tumblr media
Q: RaveMeSilly: With camping being added and festival hours being extended, are there plans to change the re-entry policy? I'd love to party from 3pm to 6am, but it would be clutch to be able to hit up the campgrounds for a bit in between to relax and recoup. A: PasqualeRotella: Yes, during festival hours you can come in and out of the show as long as you have a camping wristband [additional response on the same post] We will have in's and out's at the festival for campers, but non-campers will not be able to enter the campgrounds.
Q: TheHans215: How likely would it be to get a small stage, maybe even sponsored by like 7-Up again, inside of the huge shuttle tent outside the speedway? Waiting in the early hours of the morning would be way better with some chill music to groove to. Even better, have campers host the stage like a "sound camp" type thing. Doesn't have to be crazy lights or effects, just some sound to keep peoples moods high. A: PasqualeRotella: We're capable of building that, no problem. No plans for that right now but I like the idea. Thanks for the suggestion! That said, we do not plan on having a long wait at shuttles with our new provider.
Q: ekapote: Hi Pasquale! I have a question regarding security on shuttle waiting lines. Last year a huge cause of frustration, along with long waiting times, was due to large groups of people jumping the fence dividers and cutting lines leaving the festival. Does the new company plan on upping the amount of security monitoring these lines? There was no way cops on the outskirts could see what was happening inside the tents based on the layout. My group witnessed several fights break out, and we were concerned for the safety of everyone involved. Thanks so much for taking the time to answer our questions! Can’t wait for 2018. ✌🏼🌼🦉 A: PasqualeRotella: The answer to that question is yes. Shuttle operations are gonna be completely different next year.
Tumblr media
Q: juanmiindset: Im a Cast Member at Disneyland and Ive seen you and Holly at the park often, how much inspiration from Disneyland goes into these festivals if any? A: PasqualeRotella: I get inspiration from so many different places. Even going all the way back to the original LA warehouse underground scene. But yes, theme parks as well!
Q: DeClann: Will the livestreaming experience be improved for 2018? Having a continuous stream for each stage would be much more appreciated than 10-20min sets from only a handful of DJ's. I can't wait to see what you have in store for EDC 2018! A: PasqualeRotella: I've gotten mixed opinions from people for what they'd like to see on this. I do appreciate your input. We're capable of doing longer sets. Maybe I should get a vote on this from fans.
Q: brandejae: You advised that EDC 2018 will be getting longer hours, new shuttle service, camping and new stage designs. Does this include the neonGARDEN as well!? We've had the "TechnoTeepee" for going on three years now and it's definitely getting a bit stale. Personally, I really enjoyed 2013/14's designs with the larger structure and feel that Insomniac could take note from Awakenings & Time Warp for their new Factory93 experience. Techno has definitely been growing in the states and I feel like we are definitely past due for some upgrades! Thank you! A: PasqualeRotella: Agree! We are working on new designs for next year's neonGARDEN.
Q: Rekari: Are there any plans to update QuantumValley stage? This year was great, but could have been better with the addition of CO2. Also it seemed like it was too small of a venue for some of the bigger acts like ATB and Gareth Emery where it was completely packed this year. A: PasqualeRotella: Yes, I'm excited to say that it’s going to be a new open-air stage.
Tumblr media
Q: Ilovewingsnthings: Pasquale, I LOVE all the main stage designs, but can we please have more LED on the main stage? I really like Insomniac visuals, but the last 3 years they been obstructed. Kinetic Cathedral has been the perfect balance. A: PasqualeRotella: We pretty much use all the LED in the United States for EDC Las Vegas every year so that might be difficult unless you own an LED company.
Q: Redrunk: Where exactly is the camping going to be on the speedway grounds? A: PasqualeRotella: Surrounding properties outside the Speedway grounds.
Q: slombar: As a big trance and Dreamstate fan, I have to admit the QuantumValley experience just didn't compare to the old Megastructure of Circuit Grounds. Is there any plan to bring a megastructure stage back? A: PasqualeRotella: There are no plans right now, but there's the possibility of bringing the megastructure back, just not for the circuitGROUNDS. It's not big enough to accommodate the people at that stage.
Q: xxalexmxx: Pasquale will you improve premier parking for edc 2018? I spent $150 this year and left at 4am and no one in the lot could leave till 8am friday it was horrible Everyone in GA left before us. The pass was for faster in and out but we were the last ones to leave Ive had premier for 3 years in a row. 2015-2016 was better so why change it Youve also moved it into a diffrent bigger lot which makes me think its more about the money now. Edit: Can you let us know if premier parking lot will be in the new 2017 lot again or will go back to the good lot they had in 2015-2016? A: PasqualeRotella: The only way that we’ll have it as an option is if it is 110% improved.
Q: vanewho: Pasquale! The announcements you made regarding the changes to EDC have definitely lived up to the hype and shows that you are actively trying to improve things for us. I've been attending EDC for 3 years now and this past year just felt.... off. It bummed me out a little but this gives me hope that 2018 will be great again. Question #1: Are you going to continue this trend of booking artists that are not part of the EDM scene? (DJ khaled, metro boomin, etc.) Question #2: A lot of headliners complained about being ripped off by the water vendors and being denied ice in 100° weather. Are you aware of this at all? A: PasqualeRotella: Thanks for supporting us for the past three years and reaching out to me today! For your first question, we'll always experiment with things out of the box. We are a dance music festival first and foremost, but we're gonna have fun sometimes, especially in Las Vegas, California. ;) As far as the water question, I never heard this before but thanks for bringing it to my attention. I'll speak to the head of F&B at the Speedway. Good thing is the average temp in May is 64 at night. Thanks again. I'll get on this.
Q: Bertillcious21: Hey Pasquale! Just a quick question... Will shuttle prices go up with this change? When will you announce shuttle stops? Can we expect to have the same ones as last year? We want to book our hotel ASAP. A: PasqualeRotella: Not only are the prices not going up but shuttles will be immensely improved. All stops will be announced before the shuttles go on sale.
Tumblr media
Q: kunfuz1on: Having a large quantity of DJ's at EDC is good for diversity but have you thought about lowering the amount of DJ's at the event in place of longer sets? It would be nice to see multiple DJ's play for 1.5 - 2 hours. A: PasqualeRotella: We will have artists periodically play extended set times depending on the genre or stage they are playing at.
Q: nnicot: Hi Mr. Rotella, as an 'older' festival-goer it's been amazing watching the evolution of Insomniac festivals through the years. present-day EDC especially is mind-boggling with its production quality and lineups. My mind was completely blown this year watching Valentino Khan throw down his ridiculous set while all the fireworks were going off in our faces right behind the Basspod stage! First question: after so many years of holding EDC in June, what was the final tipping point for you to move EDC to May? Second question: moving forward, how much involvement do you think you will have with the HARD brand of events, and what is your vision for the Hard brand? The recently revealed Holy Ship lineups are absolutely insane and have definitely served to calm the fears of many of the die-hard Ship fans. Thank you and my crew and I are eager to see what Insomniac brings in the future! A: PasqualeRotella: The biggest factor in our move to May was the cooler weather. It allows us to do camping, have extended hours, and the temperatures are way more comfortable for Headliners. It also takes if off of Father’s Day, which is great for me and all the other Dads. We’ve owned HARD for 4 years but haven’t operated it, with the exception of helping with HARD Summer at Glen Helen this past August. Moving forward we’ll continue with operations.
Q: IIcantstopwontstopII: Every year you manage to up the ante with production design, you see to have the perfect layout stage by stage at the speedway. Wil we ever see stages que relocated? Or since the system is already in place, will things forever stay the same? A: PasqualeRotella: We don’t have any plans to but if you think there’s a reason to, please let me know.
Q: mycleanaccount96: Why wont you release all dj sets recorded at edc? A: PasqualeRotella: We leave that up to the artists to make that decision.
Q: soondubu23: How safe is camping? Are personal items susceptible to stealing/looting while we're at the festival? A: PasqualeRotella: If you're in an RV I suggest you lock it. If you're staying in a tent, we ask that you bring your own lock as the zippers will have luggage lock holes. Security will be roaming the grounds as well. [later to the same post] You'll be able to access your vehicle if you want to lock items in there too.
Tumblr media
Q: A_burdenless_pig: Hi Pasquale! Just wondering what the timeline for camping? What date could people check in and what is the latest they could check out? Thanks A: PasqualeRotella: Campers will definitely be able to check in on Thursday, but we're looking at the possibility of Wednesday. Checkout will be Monday around 7pm.
Q: sheriffChocolate: So my question, like so many others, is related to EDC camping. In the campground can we get above ground pools and have pool parties with DJs? Since we're so far away from the strip I feel like this would be a great way to supplement some EDC week pool parties and cool off! A: PasqualeRotella: That is being explored and likely to happen. Plus a lot more activities will happen. I'm excited about it.
Q: alpatt: Pasquale, Will EDC LV be going "cashless" and make the attendees utilize wristbands for payments in 2018 similar to other music festivals? A: PasqualeRotella: No plans for it right now but is that something you think we should do?
Q: Psirocking: Was edc ny ended over low turnout, high cost, or a bit of both? A: PasqualeRotella: The reason we no longer organize EDC New York is because we felt like we needed to find a better venue.
Q: shotnuke005: Where do you lean on the pineapple on the pizza argument? A: PasqualeRotella: All toppings are welcome here :)
Q: Ilovewingsnthings: Pasquale, I've always wondered this, what happens to the main stages after you're done using them. Where is Kinetic Cathedral for example. Scrapped for parts? I like to daydream that one day there will be an EDCLand full of all the mainstages A: PasqualeRotella: I have some artifacts in my backyard, there are some in the Insomniac warehouse, and we are looking to make an Insomniac Production Museum.
Q: cu4tro: Do you have any updates on a location for Middlelands? Lots of Texans hope it doesn't leave this state. Being from Texas and going to EDC since 2014, it was amazing to be able to RV camp at an insomniac festival so close to home. It was awesome running into you to personally thank you and welcome you back to TX since Nocturnal in Rockdale. Cant wait for RV camping at EDC! A: PasqualeRotella: We are still searching for the right venue and the plan is to definitely bring it back but not before finding the right place. Glad we crossed paths!
Tumblr media
Q: throwaway3921218: What was the first festival you ever attended? A: PasqualeRotella: Grateful Dead show in Southern California with Mama Irene.
Q: king_of_nogainz: Mr. Rotella, my question to you is, have you ever Kandiflipped? A: PasqualeRotella: Yes but I’ve been sober for many years now
Q: wookin: Hey Pasquale, what's going on with the Mexico on sale? Do you have plans to donate to those affected by the earthquake? A: PasqualeRotella: The on sale will be October 16/17 for EDC Mexico and will raise funds for those affected by the earthquake. The same goes for EDC Orlando for those affected by the hurricane. And it doesn’t stop there. All of our major festivals support communities in need.
Q: manny-rr: Hey what is your favorite non insomniac festival and why? If it is burning man, what's your second favorite. A: PasqualeRotella: If you’re not letting me pick Burning Man, then I would say Boom Festival.
Q: aquino661: Would you ever consider throwing an edc inspired cruise? #EdcCruise A: PasqualeRotella: Yea an EDSEA has been considered many times. We will make it happen one of these days.
Q: ZerophoniK: Pasquale, do you play Fantasy Football? If so, who are your top players on your roster? A: PasqualeRotella: I don't play Fantasy Football but I do play Galaga and Donkey Kong

2) Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival
When: Fri, Apr 10, 2020 – Sun, Apr 19, 2020 (Two Weekends)
Where: Empire Polo Club, Indio, California
Website: https://ift.tt/1ANevsK
Coachella is arguably the most iconic and famous music & arts festival in the United States (and quite possibly the entire world). If you haven’t been, I can guarantee you it’ll certainly be an experience that you’ll never forget. While it may be notoriously expensive, I personally think it’s worth every penny. Each year Coachella provides an undeniably impressive line-up spanning nearly every music genre, epic stage production, world-class food & drink vendors and a fantastic festival atmosphere.
Being a favorite among the dozens of quality music festivals in California, tickets do sell-out almost instantly, so make sure your festival squad plan ahead and scoop up some tickets while you can! I’ve attended Coachella in 2014 & 2018, and I had the time of my life, and can’t wait to return to the magical  Empire Polo Club for another round for Coachella 2020!

For the east coast residents looking to enjoy an unbelievable festival with the iconic NYC skyline as a backdrop, make your way to Governor’s Ball. Widely recognized as one of the biggest and best festivals in New York, this definitely deserves a top spot on your bucket list! Located on the beautiful and well-maintained Randall’s Island Park, festival-goers are treated to three days of world-class music, phenomenal stages, and good vibes.
“We started all this 8 years ago because we were music lovers who lived in a city that needed – that deserved – a contemporary music festival. Music is always our primary focus, and with 60+ artists of all genres across 4 stages, there is something for everyone.”

4) Outside Lands Music Festival
When: August 7-9, 2020
Where: Golden Gate Park, San Fransisco, California
Website: https://ift.tt/2n7PdZe
Outside Lands is Northern California’s premiere music festival, and I can personally say that it’s an absolute blast! It’s a local favorite among San Franciscans, and there really is a special and relaxing festival vibe for these three days in Golden Gate Park. While tickets, food, and drink costs are rather high (like everything in SF), it’s an incredible event that you should definitely check out at least once!
The line-ups are always super-diverse (and I always discover tons of new artists), the production is fantastic, and you’ll simply fall in love with the venue (located in the heart of San Francisco). While Outside Lands Music Festival finishes early (around 10 PM), the city is filled with afterparties and sideshows of the artists on the line-up, and it really is a great time to visit the city. If you don’t want to spend the money for the full 3-day general admission, just buy a one-day ticket for your preferred day of the line-up, and spend the rest of your time partying it up in San Francisco’s thriving nightlife scene

7) Ultra Music Festival

Where: Miami
https://ift.tt/1TDR79B
For over 20 years, ULTRA Music Festival has invited guests to downtown Miami for a weekend of top-notch electronic music, and in recent years, has been producing events in nearly every corner of the globe. From Australia to Japan, Buenos Aires to Croatia – ULTRA has proven repeatedly it’s one of the best music festival productions in the world.
While in 2019, ULTRA was forced to move venues due to issues with the city of Miami, I’m stoked that ULTRA 2020 will be returning to its iconic venue of Bayfront Park in Downtown Miami, Florida. It’s always the main highlight of Miami Music Week, and is truly an experience that every EDM fan should experience at least once in their life. While ticket prices may be high for the average festival attendee, once you get a look at the star-studded line-up, it makes perfect sense!
“For EDM fans around the world, Ultra in Miami is a must-stop on the international circuit. While most of the United States is shivering in parkas waiting for the summer festival season, Ultra fans are dancing their asses off in sunny Miami. The show always delivers surprises – both in the musical acts and the fans that attend.”

9) Electric Daisy Carnival
When: May 15-17, 2020
Where: Las Vegas Boulevard, Las Vegas
Homepage
All Are Welcome Under the Electric Sky | Dusk Til’ Dawn
Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC for short) Las Vegas is the largest electronic dance music festival in North America, but pretty much every EDM fan already knows that. What started in 1997 as a warehouse party in Los Angeles, has turned into one of the wildest, massive, and mesmerizing dance music festivals in the entire world, and simply should be at TOP at every raver’s bucket list!
Now I’ve personally attended EDC three different times now: the last edition that was hosted in Los Angeles (2011), the first year it was brought out to Las Vegas (2012), and once again in Vegas back in 2014. It truly is unlike any festival I’ve been to in the USA, and is one of the most impressive events in the world! I’ve gotta give it up to Pasquale Rotella and the team over Insomniac events because they go above & beyond to ensure the “headliners” (the attendees) all have a life-changing experience every year!!
“EDC is a unique multi-day festival pushing the boundaries of imagination and setting standards in the live entertainment industry. By incorporating carnival themes and attractions, cutting-edge stage production, world-class talent, and innovative art and technology, EDC is more than an electronic music festival – it is an unparalleled multi-sensory experience unlike any other. The brand has created a passionate community of accepting fans that have turned EDC into a way of life. The foundation upon which the phenomenon was built is one of unity, love, self expression, and respect for one another.”

10) Electric Forest
Image via Don Idio – https://ift.tt/2oV7eeP
When: Late June 2020
Where: Rothbury, Michigan
https://ift.tt/2Oq1RPq
“Have you ever felt anything like it? The beat of the bass charging the atmosphere with electrifying energy. Bolts of lightning streaking through the forest, arcing around the trees, and captivating the crowd into awe.A mind-melting experience of community, woodland, and rhythm bringing 45,000 people together every year in a musical-matrix of natural and electric vibrations…”
Out of all the US music festivals on this list, I’d argue that Electric Forest wins for having the best venue! Tucked deep in the woods of Michigan, once a year pops up a magical land filled magical lights & lasers shining through the massive trees, epic stages with performances from world-class artists, and top-notch vibes from the loving #ForestFamily. Make sure you snag tickets to this one early, because they are certainly hard to come by! It’s one of the most highly sought after music festivals in the country, and is guaranteed to be one of the highlights of your summer!
While I have yet to attend myself, I’m really hoping that Electric Forest 2020 will be my year! Everyone I know who has been says nothing buy incredible things, and that it’s simply a place you have to visit to fully understand it!

11) Hangout Festival

Hangout Music Festival is a massive 3-Day beach extravaganza complete with beach clubs, ocean swimming, sailing expeditions, roller discos, free yoga, beach volleyball, a puppy kissing booth, Ferris wheel views, beautiful art installations, and so much more! While Alabama might not be the first place you think of for a “destination festival”, Hangout Music Festival is produced by Goldenvoice (the same company behind Coachella), so you know it’s guaranteed to be an incredible beach and music festival vacation. Take a look through their previous line-ups, and you’ll understand the talent they bring out.

When: March 13-22, 2020
Where: Austin
Home
“It’s not that South by Southwest takes over Austin — downtown Austin becomes SXSW for nine days in March. Music, art, interactive, panels, comedy, and movies all vie for your attention span. Let’s put it this way. You could skip media for a year, come to Austin for the week, and still come out ahead on pop culture.
Founded in 1987 in Austin, Texas, SXSW is best known for its conference and festivals that celebrate the convergence of the interactive, film, and music industries. The event, an essential destination for global professionals, features sessions, showcases, screenings, exhibitions, and a variety of networking opportunities. SXSW proves that the most unexpected discoveries happen when diverse topics and people come together.”

  13) Electric Zoo
When: End of August 2020
Where: Randall’s Island Park
http://electriczoo.com/
“Established in 2009 by Made Event, the internationally renowned Electric Zoo Festival is one of New York City’s largest music festivals and features the top names in electronic music, bringing a wide variety of acts from around the world and across the spectrum of electronic music’s various sub-genres. International editions of Electric Zoo have taken place in Mexico City, Tokyo, Shanghai, and São Paulo.
Electric Zoo celebrates the joy of electronic music every year by putting on one of the biggest, most immersive festival experiences in the world.”
It is said that change is not only a natural part of life but the only way to reveal true beauty. Just think about the metamorphosis that a caterpillar undergoes to become an exquisite butterfly. It’s pretty mind-blowing. Thus, we’ve taken such inspiration and tied it into this year’s theme, Electric Zoo: Evolved.

14) Kaaboo Del Mar Festival
Credit: Alive Coverage
When: September 18-20, 2020
Where: Petco Park
https://ift.tt/1EIlrIN
Southern California’s largest music, comedy, art and culinary festival!
“Forget what you know about music festivals, we’ve shifted the paradigm and built something new. 2018 was the inaugural sold-out cruise for the brand new festival cruise, “FRIENDSHIP”. With a star-studded line-up with names like Boys Noize, Dixon, and Rufus Du Sol – it looked like an epic time! I had some friends who went (who even got engaged during one of Destructo’s legendary sets), and they had nothing but great things to say about it.  It’s one of the new music festival cruises in the scene, but I’ve got a feeling the Friendship will be around for many years to come!
Friendship is returning for their 2nd voyage from January 6-10, departing from Miami and sailing to the iconic CocoCay island in the Bahamas! With a jam-packed line-up, awesome activities, and incredible vibes – it’s going to be a top-notch experience for all those who are lucky enough to book a room on board!

Instead of surreal and sometimes psychedelic installation art of Coachella, there are giant cowboy boots and a bronze bucking horse. The attire morphs from flower crowns and H&M branded fashions to red, white and blue everything – including shirts, pants, bandannas and long flowing sashes bearing the U.S. flag. While most music festivals tend to focus on a few genres, Boston Calling doesn’t discriminate between all the sounds you love; this is the kind of festival you attend when you’re a fan of music, through and through. If you’re the type of person who can go from dancing to lively electronic beats to headbanging to gnarly guitar riffs without delay, consider Boston Calling your music mecca.”
Best New Festival Coming to the US in 2020
Primavera Sound Los Angeles
Earlier this year European festival juggernaut Primavera Sound announced they’d be premiering in the US in 2020 to celebrate its 20th anniversary! How exciting is that!? After living in Barcelona for two different summer, I know Primavera Sound means serious business, and I can’t wait to see what type of line-up they create in my home-state of California.

Last, I couldn’t complete this article discussing the best parties and events in the US without mentioning Burning Man. BUT – it’s NOT A MUSIC FESTIVAL, which is why I’ve added it as a bonus special event.
After attending Burning Man for the past two years though, I can say it’s one of the most magical and life-changing experiences! It’s a temporary city filled with countless themed camps, LED lights, dust storms, techno sunrise dances, amazing people, and unbeatable burner vibes.
While it’s definitely the most challenging event on this list to prepare for, it’s by far the most rewarding and memorable. If you’re interested in attending Burning Man, feel free to reach out to me with any questions! I’m happy to discuss the 10 principles, best preparation methods, how to find a camp, and tips for getting tickets!
You can read through my articles on Burner Accessories & Burner Goggles though to help with the shopping list!

What USA Music Festivals do you think deserve a spot on this list…?
This list took me quite some time to put together, and I hope you’ve enjoyed reading it and finding some new events around the US! But I’d love to hear from you to see if I missed any specific event! There are thousands of festivals every year in the US (it’s a pretty massive country), so I couldn’t include all of them, but I do think I did a pretty great job at compiling the best US festivals in 2020!
