FROM THE GARDEN: NOVEMBER 2019 (2023)
From the Garden: November 2019 (book) is part of a series of ecodyed works I created in November 2019, when I was first experimenting with the process. The prints were created by layering foliage collected from my garden onto long strips of paper, and wrapping them around rusted tin cans, which were boiled with onion skins for about an hour. The lines of the tin can and the lines of the string I used to tie the paper around the can are visible within these prints.

Welcome to the incredible, sustainable and stable blue green colours you can only get naturally by ecodyeing with mushrooms. Welcome to the Thelephoroid clade!
I'll cover every step you'll need to unlock the rich colour potential in these amazing fungi. This incredibly diverse group of mushrooms is capable of deep bluey-greens and greys all the way to black. Found throughout North America and Europe, Boleptosis grisea can be found often growing in association with Scots pine.
*Please note it is of conservation concern in some areas of Europe due to deforestation, air pollution and use of fertilizers, so please only harvest where it's more common. And as always, fight against the factors leading to its scarcity!*

Sourgrass, growing wild on the street. A typical dye plant, which produces a reliable yellow color. Learn more in our online course on natural dyeing. The price is 50 euros. Visit jointheflow.net for more information. Oxalis pes-caprae is often called by the common name sourgrass or soursop due to its pleasant sour flavor. This sourness is caused by the exceptionally high content of oxalic acid. The plant is palatable and in modest quantities is reasonably harmless to humans and livestock. In South Africa it is a traditional ingredient in dishes such as waterblommetjiebredie (water flower stew).  #sourgrass #woodsorrel #oxalis #sorrel #oxalispercaprae  #foraging #rewilding #primitiveskills #sustainablefashion #dyersofinstagram #naturaldye #plantdye  #naturaldyes #naturaldyersofinstagram #naturaldyeing #ecodye #ecodyeing  #distancelearning #herbnerd #plantallies #textileartist #ecoartist #veganfashion #ecofashionista #slowfashionmovement #majestic_macros (at Athens, Greece) https://www.instagram.com/p/CC5lKTJlrBc/?igshid=u5av925psif9

Another ecoprint leaf pull, just because I think they are pretty to look at (also very exciting when they are this good!)
This print is from a catalpa leaf which had turned a very dubious brown colour in the freezer and I wasn't convinced it was going to do much of anything - but look! It came out so vibrant I wish I'd done loads more of them!

New energy drink? Dreaming of this liquid purple 💜😍 remnants from boiling purple carrots. I’m going to try a test dye with some scrap fabric to see if it holds. We’ll see how it goes! Excited to repurpose food scraps for creating upcycled linens. Who else is food dyeing? #closedloopcooking
